i kinda don’t get people who characterize maccready as like… secretly generous, or having a heart of gold or anything. like don’t get me wrong i don’t think he’s downright malicious or anything, but the dude is absolutely a selfish jerk once you get past the charming facade. that’s the part that’s compelling!

like, he’s nice enough and open enough with the player once you get high enough affinity with him, but his reactions to player actions still point to him being a jerk overall. the sosu just happens to be in His Circle of people he can be vulnerable with. that includes you, his son, and maybe daisy. everyone else can kick rocks, the same way it was in little lamplight

he HAD to grow up with that kind of “us vs the world, every man for himself” mentality in the capitol wasteland. doing so otherwise gets you killed or taken advantage of, which is just protracted death anyways. having grown up in a place where slavers run rampant, people are all pushing each other further down just to boost themselves up and live one more day, and it’s literally impossible to make renewable food sources because the ground is so poisoned i genuinely don’t blame him for ending up a little tight fisted. the fact that he was the mayor of little lamplight just meant that he ended up being able to accept a few people as His To Protect instead of being a total lone wolf.

the way he reacts to the players open generosity isn’t just for show, he Actually Dislikes when you give stuff away without expecting anything in return. you might need that thing and now its just gone!! that person might see you as a sucker! you give an inch and they’ll take a mile! and it makes sense for his character to be like that considering everything. i don’t get why people want to change that into him just being kind of tsundere.

i understand that having your babygirl blorbo comfort character be a canonical asshole in ways that aren’t just kinda charming can be offputting, but like…. the way he treats the sosu is a very notable exception to the rest of his life & it’s a much more interesting dynamic imo. especially if you’re playing a goody two shoes martyr. but that’s just me

Something that makes reading TOA so devastating is how fucking much Apollo feels about Everything. There’s so MUCH. Like I don’t even know how to describe it to you if you haven’t read the books yourself. He has so many complicated thoughts and emotions about just about everything and he cares about everything so much and there is just SO MUCH going on in his head. And yet none of it ever reaches his mouth!!

He almost never says what he’s feeling. What little comes out of his mouth about his thoughts barely even scratches the surface of what he actually means. Like he’ll be having a long ass monologue about how incredible someone is, showing a deep understanding of them as a person and empathizing with them so hard you’d almost think it’s projection but it’s not he’s legitimately just mind melding with this random person he met like a week ago and he’s thinking the softest, kindest thoughts about them like he knows they’re fucking incredible - and what comes out of his mouth is just like, “you’re a wonderful friend :)” AND ITS LIKE. THERES SO MUCH MORE UNDER THE SURFACE. the sheer admiration and adoration he has for everyone around him……… UGHHH!!! But he never VOICES ANY OF IT!!!!!! He never tells anyone about what Zeus did to him……. He never tells anyone except the reader about his realization that Zeus is abusive…. He never even tells commodus about how much he adored him, not then and not now… he refuses to tell anyone when he’s in pain or tries to justify the things he does when he actually had Decent Reasons for why he did something… I’m. I’M. AUGH. AHHHHH

frustrated because i want to get educated on feminist theory but idk where to start, especially since there’s so much flawed feminism out there (god, you’re saying i have to read it all and form my own opinion? but that’s so much work! just tell me what One feminist work i should read to know everything) but it’s so important because i’m becoming increasingly convinced that our deemphasis on theory is killing feminism.

we’re losing her. we’re doing vibes-based feminism we’re doing “whatever personal opinions i bring to the table without thinking about them are my political views” feminism we’re doing “it’s easy! if you don’t hate women and want them to die you’re a feminist!” feminism we’re doing VANITY feminism we’re doing “common sense” feminism (just a rephrase of “whatever personal opinions…” feminism) and we’re shocked that we’re losing. a political movement & ideology* that has NO thought behind it, JUST vibes. no pillars, no standards. what even is a feminist? when do you ever hear that articulated? unless, again, you’re hearing “a feminist is somebody who believes women are people :)” that’s exactly the problem i’m talking about.

this is why we’re losing ground to “criticizing beauty standards is antifeminist because it feels good to be pretty” feminism we’re losing ground to “you know what group has had it too good for too long? the transgender woman” feminism we’re losing ground to “feminism is for women AND men and the more we include men the more feminist it is” feminism.

frankly the way the transphobic feminism gains followers is it’s the only fucking side that actually gives somebody ARGUMENTS to latch on to. people are alienated by toothless no thoughts feminism and they’re going to people who are offering them some thoughts, and a bad argument beats the shit out of no argument at all. it’s like if you showed up to court with no lawyer? and you were like “everybody knows i’m right, morally. it’s common sense. the strength of that will protect me :)” you are going to prison. we could be doing transfeminist theory we could be explaining the role of gender in society and how it’s constructed and how women both cis & trans are constructed as women but instead we’re saying “i don’t hate trans women because i’m normal :)” that’s nothing!!! am i making myself clear do you see what i’m talking about!

and then the other two things i complained about, the “feminism is anything that makes me feel good, as a woman” and “feminism is for men, actually” are just because when we have zero standards for feminism it can mean anything at all. we could be talking about these things but we aren’t.

i don’t know how to fix this (i could learn more, but what then? well i guess id post about it for my followers. good enough, i guess. so it’s just that i don’t know how to learn more) but i am getting so frustrated with the way things are now. i know there’s people out there doing real things in the feminist space but i don’t know where to look… lot of trans women on my twitter tl talking about feminism (and yes that’s something, but i am hungry for more than twitter threads <3) and they’re fighting an uphill battle over there. like. god

* i feel like it’d be the good feminist thing to do to come down hard with “feminism is a MOVEMENT” but we do kind of need internal ideology before we can have external movement, probably. seems like people who already have feminist ideas are more likely to engage in feminist actions when the time comes. but idk i’m no political movements expert. this post is just me giving you my two cents on a specific concept

And like the holes are still there, but it's a tighter fit. And Roy is just standing there absolutely death glaring at him while Jamie is staring at his nipple in the mirror and trying to get his piercing in and with every second that ticks by, Roy is one step closer to just giving in and doing it for him and he doesn't know why watching this is making him so mad and then oops, there he is going over and grumbling at Jamie to give it to him and leaning with his face practically touching Jamie's nipple to get a good enough view to help him while Jamie makes some stupid fucking joke about how Roy's too old to manage anyway because his eyesight must be going and Roy's like maybe don't fucking test me right now

Some complaints really are just people not taking the next step w their own observations. Like, the raimiverse’s writing style is on the nose (endearing), it’s not subtle about its desired impression. “Why does Harry introduce his father so awkwardly and formally in Spiderman 1” <- you’re picking up the pieces king, you’re just assuming this is done unintentionally. It’s stilted and formal because Harry’s relationship w his father is stilted and formal.

#I’M SORRY I’M BEING NEGATIVE TODAY #but I hate those executions so much. they’re so cartoony and bad #and most of them are animated super lazily #chapter 3’s is disgustingly sexualized #AND AGAIN THEY’RE JUST. NOT SCARY. LIKE THEY’RE NOT EFFECTIVE AS A MEANS OF MAKING YOU FEEL FOR THE CHARACTERS #the only exceptions to this are usami’s ‘’execution’’ in the prologue and the chapter 5 execution #those slap - and it’s simply because they manage to make the threats realistically terrifying #and yes. Yes I KNOW that sdr2’s executions bei exaggerated and cartoony TECHNICALLY fits with the lore of that game but consider this: #it still sucks #like my dears ‘tis a psychological horror franchise. bye bye ouchies doesn’t thrill or upset me it just makes me lose braincells /Meg #hell even most of THH’s executions weren’t great. #Thousand Knocks is utterly DEVASTATINGLY shocking and therefore one of the strongest in the series imo #and the burning of the versailles witch could have been very good if not for the ending #but the others are just………I do not like them. #excavator destroyer is. fine. like yeah okay big twist alter ego was discovered but. it’s so fucking low stakes. besties it’s a computer #OH ACTUALLY. MAKOTO’S VERSION OF AFTER SCHOOL LESSON MIGHT GENUINELY BE MY FAVORITE OF THE WHOLE SERIES #THAT ONE’S FUCKING INCREDIBLE IT’S SO STRESSFUL TO WATCH OUGH I LOVE IT #and the. when alter ego saves him….. WHEN THEY FLIP THE FORMULA!!!!!!!! #WHEN YOU’RE WATCHING THE EXECUTIONS YOU KNOW HOW UNPREVENTABLE THE CHARACTERS’ DEATHS ARE…….SO WHEN ALTER EGO SHOWS UP IT’S SUCH A MOMENT!!! #genuinely so good and Kyoko’s version completely pales in comparison like it’s not even a competition #and then v3 is like………it has the most consistent execution qualities of the series I think but none of them are particularly noteworthy #Blast Off 2.0 is cool as fuck for the ending alone but the fact that they reused the blast off concept from thh………it’s disappointing af ngl #I LOVE cultural melting pot for the name alone but man…….mixed feelings on it at best #the only real issues I have with the rest are the monokubs basically highjacking everything at the most climactic moments #AND OH MY FUCKING GOD. DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON BUGS PANIC. stupidest execution EVER and its only saving grace #is that it’s even SLIGHTLY gory
