The fact that the modern Highland Dress, with the fancy jacket and the specific clan tartan, is a victorian Highlandist invention does not mean that Gaels never wore kilts. I have no idea why this second idea is spread so often, including among scholars who ought to know better.

Some fucking lefty meme page on FB screenshotted that post me and Solarpunkwobby made about the Highlands and colonialism and added some bullshit about "the English" colonising "Scotland" and talking about the cultural impact on "the Scots" of the Disclothing Act, what all if that stuff was targeted specifically at Gaels with the enthusiastic approval and support of Lowland Scotland, and when Lowlanders were the ones brought in to fucking settle cleared land. I just wish ScotNats would shut the fuck up forever.
