Thanks god main man Chuggy Carter Leslie J. Carter came out again to play our 2023 NAMM Show Kickoff concert - Chuggy's been playing on my band faithfully since August of 1989, he knows my music in his sleep and always has my back! Congas and Percussion Master! I have always been a fan of Chuggy Carter's playing, we finally got to start working together when I got a 5-nighter at NY's premier live music restaurant club Mikell's on Colombus Avenue & 97th Street - I had my 1959 Hammond B3 there, on the band then: Bernard Purdie, Alex Foster, Barry Finnerty, Chuggy and myself at the B3 - the club was full of great musicians including the late greats Hugh Masekela, Cornell Dupree
(Cornell sat in with us) and that was the beginning of a longtime great association and besides being one of the best congueros, Chuggy is a great friend above and beyond the call of duty on a gig! Chuggy plays GON BOPS instuments for some years now - but he can make the groove on everything and anything including a chair or even with just his hands - thank you Chuggy!! - Jon Hammond - Jon Hammond Band - Jon Hammond Organ Group

I just learned something and thought you might find it interesting. It is almost 2:30 in the morning and I've just learned that it would be really really bad for me if I was bitten by a venomous snake (aside from the obvious reason) because a lot of qntivenoms are made using... horse antibodies.... and I'm incredibly allergic to horses
Well, it’s 4:40am for me and I guess that makes two of us! I did not know that. That’s cool. In a not cool way for folks with horse allergies.

ya boi got no sleep today because of not 1 (one), not 2 (two), hell i wish it was 3 (three) but gosh darn it if it was 5 (five) God damn alarms coming from my neighbours house! they’re fine if your worried, the first was a faulty fire alarm that the fire department delt with a 1 am right outside my window with thier flashing blue bright ass lights, after which understnadably lead my neighbour and her family to spend the night in another residence. Which if your keeping track ment no one was home to do anything about the subsiquent four home alarms triggered by whatever the fire department did to fix the first fire alarm! cause i thought the first home alarm was another fire alarm what with it being 3am and i having had no sleep so i dailed up the fire department (first time i ever called 999, very chill experiance, they hung up on me without saying goodbye) and then went they came to fix it they eventually did! i think, so they claimed and to be fair i dont blame them but lo and behold what do i hear in the sweet twilight of the waking and the sleeping worlds? beep beep mother fuck! home alarm again! now mercys alive i had /slept/ a bit since the last one so who to say when it began but hey luck was on my side because at 4:40am (when i went down stairs with shoes on and ironically an Unsleeping city T-shirt that had arived yesterday from the fine folks at dimension 20) i was typing in the phone number on the alarm box when it shut off! woohoo! but, clever people that you are may realise that 1 fire alarm and 2 home alarms does not infact equal 5 alarms! oh no that’d be too easy, see i could sleep from 5-ish am to 1-ish pm, lord knows i’ve done it before, exept for the fact that when i was softly drifting of to never never land, you’ll never never fucking guess what! the alarm had just taken a 19 minute break i guess! so whoop dee doo! i get up, get dressed, get my phone, call the number on the box - voice mail. ok. fair enough. what can you do? i mean you close the window right next to the alarm for one thing but i mean. its a single glazed window thats not exactly stopping much sound so you try to go to sleep and it stops! ok ok you think maybe now, this time you get sleep? ha fuck off you absolute dumbass. alarm number 5, a beautiful 7-ish minutes after alarm number four! so at that point what do you do but give up and say fuck it! maybe its time to become one of them there morning people who wakes up at half five every day because they are unaffected by gods wrathful spite, which i should mention is currently lighting up the street in the form of sunlight becuase god forbid we actually have a night time in the summer.... so yeah. thats my day so far, how are y’all doing?

Yukon Quest 2020!
I needed a little time to decompress after the race, before I could write this. Man, what an adventure. And all I did was volunteer. Let me back up a little...
Friday night I baked brownies and bread. One of the roles I signed up for was "official start line baker". Which means snacks for all the volunteers. I don't mind cooking, but when I'm doing it for a ton of people, it makes me nervous if it isn't "perfect". Which it never is. Maybe that contributed to my headspace. It was not good. On Friday night, the forecast had the highs in the -25 range for Saturday. I'd convinced myself I was going to get frostbite, there's no way my cold weather gear was good enough.
Saturday, 6am alarm. I'm not a morning person. I struggle with early morning alarms even on a good day. This wasn't a good start to my day though. I was tired (never enough sleep when I wake up early), and EXTRA convinced now that my gear wasn't warm enough. I didn't want to get up. I didn't want to go downtown to the Quest start line. There was some crying, some almost breaking down, interspersed with getting ready. A lot of talking to myself (aloud, much to Holden's dislike, he was still trying to sleep). Step by step, I'd say "grab your hat" "now put cream cheese on your bagel to eat it". And on, and on, and on.
But I did it. Four trips or so to the car and back and definitely later than I wanted to leave. I left. Headed to Yukon Quest.
I got there, and ended up assisting in parking. 7:40am or so, very cold, sun nowhere near rising. I thought my toes were going to fall off, despite my 2 layers of wool socks and toe warmers. This is it, frostbite for sure I thought. I almost cried, again, and then composed myself, again. Around 8:30 the parking lot filled. So we all gathered and they asked who needed a break to warm up. I sure did. I also had food to carry inside so it didn't freeze.
I walked in with the first round of food, stayed for a few minutes to warm up, and then got the rest of it from my car and brought it inside. By this time, my fellow parking crew was headed back out, all warmed up. I still couldn't feel my toes, so I stayed inside. By the time I walked back outside, they had a system. One which excluded me. I walked to all the groups and asked, but no one needed a break. Great, I thought, I'm frozen and useless. I stood around for several minutes, moving awkwardly from group to group. Should I give up? Go home? No, this isn't it I thought. I found the man in charge, spotted him walking inside. I ran up, chased him down. I said "no one needs a break right now so I'm looking for a place where I can be useful." He was on his way to round up folks to help at the start line, and said I could come with him.
He walked us out, our group was going to be manning the gate across the start chute. 3 minutes between mushers, so open the gates in between and give people time to walk across, making sure the path is cleared before the next team runs. He introduced me to the group. I'd ended up with folks from the Army base.
We had our assignment, and the times to be out there, and a routine. These were really nice guys. I walked down to the frozen river because, why not. We chatted. I was starting to feel better. I could be useful! Yay!
We walked inside to warm up before our shift started. Sat around talking. Some of the group walked away, came back.. family emergency and they had to leave. Unfortunate. This also made our group smaller than we would've liked to do what needed to be done at the gate. The time came. We went out, awaiting reinforcements from the base. And you know what, we pulled it off. It was simple. We all worked together. At one point someone fell on the river, and we had to help coordinate getting EMTs in and getting the gurney across the track in between teams. I did well, I think.
We had a lunch break between the 1000 mile and the 300 mile races. We went back out for the 300 and did it all over again. We made a good team and in the end, everything went well. No dog teams ran over anyone, we kept the trail clear and (most) spectators happy. By the end of the day, I was ecstatic. High on life. Fulfilled. Happy to have had a front row seat to watch all the teams run by. And I cheered and clapped for every single one.
I was cold. We all were. There's only so much you can do to stay warm at -25 while standing still for long periods of time. But I wasn't unreasonably cold. I didn't get frostbite. The only thing I need is better boots. But honestly I'm really impressed with my winter gear collection so far. Everything else was alright. In the end, it was a blast to watch all the teams run. To cheer and even, to be thanked by some of the mushers as they passed. The race just isn't possible without volunteers. With people who put everything they have into doing their best for the dogs and mushers and spectators. Without people like me, who do it, even if they are scared or nervous.
Holden and I got a HOT meal afterwards. And I got a well deserved beer. We went to see the Ice Dogs play. And I cheered loudly, still riding the "high of life".
I will for sure be back next year. With better boots. :) I will volunteer for a checkpoint too. Why not do even more. ;)
A token of appreciation for making it through my story:

So, fun 2:40AM thought about Litch Slush stuff.
The fact is that, before the two dimensions were able to open stable portals, plenty of unstable ones would pop up from time to time. Naturally, this resulted in Arkhen spilling into our world, which is where a lot of myths, superstitions, and stereotypes about the supernatural come from.
But sometimes...sometimes humans ended up on the Arkhen side, too. Which is a good part of why the Arkhen started picking at the fabric of reality intentionally; they knew there was something else there, and they wanted to see.
Humans that stumbled into Arcanae were like minor celebrities. The Arkhen were intensely interested in them, because where the hell did you come from? How did you get here? What even are you? Some humans took this better than others, and there ended up being some small amount of cultural exchange over the centuries; namely, bits of human cultures and languages being introduced to parts of Arcanae.
For example. The part of Arcanae that aligns with central America? The Arkhen folks there commonly have quasi-Spanish-sounding names. They took sounds and letters and things they liked and used them. Like there'll totally be dudes with a random ñ thrown into their name or the Spanish double-l because once upon a time, the Arkhen thought these things were neat and adopted them. Like you'll find demons named Guazkanello [Wazz-ka-neyo] or skeletons that go by Jezña'iin [Hez-nya-een].
That's just one area; portals opened up all over the place. The Arkhen picked things they liked about these funny, soft little visitors from the Otherside and made them their own. Every time a human came stumbling into their midst, the Arkhen were excited to learn more about what was Over There.
The result of this is that, once a stable connection was formed, you had dryads who could speak Finnish like they were born to it, centaurs who spoke enough English to get by with the help of some frantic pantomiming, and vampires who were speaking some kind of bastardized Spanish-Arkhen hybrid language that was only half-pronouncable by the human tongue.
Meanwhile, on our side of the portal, we're all "DEMONS ARE BAD DO NOT BE SEDUCED" and "BURN THE WITCH" 😌 Oh, humanity. Pretty much every Arkhen that ended up over here wanted to know what the fuck was up with this place, but when you're purple, eight feet tall with horns and three eyes, speaking in a language that's incomprehensible and frankly terrifying to anyone but you...people don't tend to be very welcoming.

Six Weeks
Lots of planning had gone into this 6 week trip, but with an eye to keeping things flexible.  I was careful to not over pack, limiting myself to just one mid-sized, carefully packed check-in bag and one hand-carry that would be easy to take with me on planes, trains and boats.  Part of the time, I will be doing activities with groups, other parts of the time, friends or family will be flying in to join me.  All are excited.
I had a round-trip United Airlines San Francisco (SFO)-London Heathrow flight booked for a June 10, 12:25 pm departure.  I would start the day in San Diego though and so had booked a separate 6:30am Southwest San Diego-San Francisco flight to be sure, landing in SFO at 8:10 with plenty of time to check-in my bag at United.  I was fairly confident with the SWA booking as I am an A-List Preferred member having flown nearly every week with them the previous year.  Plus, there is an 8:10am-9:55am flight just in case.
Three Boarding Passes on Leg 1
I arrived and checked in my bag in San Diego airport more than an hour before departure and headed to my gate.  When I reached my gate, I learned that my 6:30am SAN-SFO my flight has been cancelled.  The SWA agent at the gate re-booked me for the 8:10am flight and had my bag moved to the flight.  No worries, I have SWA boarding pass #2 for Leg 1.
About an hour or so later, SWA announces the 8:10 flight is delayed by 45 minutes.  I went and talked to a ticketing agent and informed her I have a 12:25pm SFO-London flight and I wanted to check the delay status.
The agent, behind the counter tell me to switch to the 8:05am flight to Oakland and just take the 30-min Bart train to SFO.  She called the baggage handlers and confirmed that the bag is being transferred to the Oakland plane.  I now have SWA boarding pass #3 for Leg 1.
Leg 1, The Mythical OAK-SFO 30-min BART train, Delayed Luggage
I land in Oakland at 9:40am, but alas my luggage did not appear on the carousel.  I went into the lost baggage office right next to the carousel and the SWA baggage rep Allison tried to trace it but could not find the bag and doesn’t know if it is in OAK or SFO.  She writes up the paperwork and will send the luggage on to London.  She says she will call me and leave voicemail so that when I land in London, I will have the flight number and arrival info of my luggage.  Simple enough.  She also advises me to take an Uber because getting on BART to SFO from OAK requires transfers will take substantially more than 30 mins.  The Uber costs me $70.
At 10:50am, she calls me while I am in SFO to tell me they were able to find my luggage on the Oakland plane, but somehow it did not get unloaded with the rest of the bags and they just found it then.  Lost luggage found!
SWA Delayed Baggage = Hot Potato
I make my United flight to London, but without being able to check in my luggage as planned and paid for. Upon arrival in London Heathrow airport on June 11, I eagerly check the SWA voicemails on my phone. But none of them had the promised flight info for my delayed luggage.
Instead, Allison the Oakland agent had sent the bag to SWA in SFO and said SFO now owns getting my delayed luggage to me.  This is the beginning realization by myself of what can be accurately described as the SWA baggage culture of “delayed baggage=hot potato”.  The goal is not to get the delayed luggage to the owner, the goal is to get the delayed luggage out of their hands as soon as possible so they can say not to contact them anymore as “We have no info because the bag is out of our hands now”. An oft-repeated mantra that  SWA lost baggage reps in different cities would tell me with officiousness, as if it was a valid reason to give a customer.
SWA says I should file a baggage claim with United and the United folks at Heathrow says we should be using the same reference number that was already created by Southwest to track the bag and not create a new one since Southwest has the bag.  I make an International call to Oakland Baggage folks and reminded them of their promise.  What was promised and reality are as different as night and day.  I also told them United will not create a claim with United since they do not have the luggage.
Sailing
I depart London the same day and headed to the South coast of England for a 3-day sail with a group to France.  That was very enjoyable.  I pick up an email from the SWA SFO Manager of Baggage Services that she had walked over the bag to the United counter and that United has the the bag.  She emails me that it will be on Flight 730 that departed the day prior on June 13.  On June 14, I take an almost 3 hour journey back to Heathrow to be at the airport when Flight 730 arrives.  Things look good!
Found Luggage is Lost Again Found Again Lost Again
My bag was not on the plane.  United at Heathrow says that the bag was last scanned a couple of hours earlier still in SFO, tagged still with the original SFO tag and that SWA has closed the file reference for the luggage.  United says SWA should not have closed the file reference until I receive the luggage.
I ask SWA to confirm that United has the bag and give me the LHR tag number since the bag according to SWA would have been retagged for London but SWA could not provide the new tag number and the London tag is not on the file reference.  An SWA baggage rep walks back to United and confirms the bag is still in SFO but is in United’s possession but provides no London tag number.  She said the bag was not put on Flight 730 because “you will not file a claim with United as directed”.  I corrected her and told her I tried to file a claim but could not get them to open one and to please advise me on what to tell United so I can get them to file a claim request.  She finally provided the info “ask them to file a courtesy claim request using the existing file number” so that the bag will get loaded to a plane to London.  It was after 5pm and I was not not having much luck reaching either of the 2 United baggage reps in Heathrow whom I had already spoken to that day, so I call up United Premier Baggage service which is US based and she files the courtesy claim at around 6pm.
I book a hotel room near Heathrow.  More than 8 hours after filing the courtesy claim request, United says “they are still searching for the bag” and the bag had not made it to 2 London flights that it could have flown out of already.  I call up Southwest again and tell the woman who answered the phone that I called up United and that United reports they are still searching for the bag.  I told her that since Southwest knows the United agent that has the bag if Southwest can contact the United agent and provide the agent the claim request number they were asking for.
“We no longer have the bag in our possession so we can’t help you with the bag”
I told her Southwest lost the bag in the first place after cancelling and delaying 2 other flights I was booked on.
“You should contact United at the number they provided using the claim number that you now have”
I told her that I informed her at the beginning of the call that I am calling Southwest because I called United and that they are still searching for the bag.
“The bag could not be put on a flight be United because you don’t have a claim number”
I told her I just told you I have a claim number?
“We no longer have the bag in our possession so we can’t help you with the bag.  You should call the number that United provided to you with the claim request number”
I asked her to email me this response so I can discuss it with a supervisor or manager and please make sure her name was on the email.
“Let me put you on hold for my supervisor.”
15-20 minutes pass while I am on hold on an international call.  I hang up and call again.  A voicemail answers and I leave voicemail to please call me back as I could not stay on hold for long periods on an international call.
6 hours later, no return call and they are still not picking up my calls.
United calls at 11am to say that they still cannot find the bag but will keep trying and keep me posted.  They have reached out to United SFO.  I told her the bag is confirmed to be with United SFO as it was last scanned there.  It is supposed to be retagged with LHR but it has either not been retagged or the LHR tag is not noted in the file reference, or it is with someone waiting for a courtesy claim request number.
The Southwest people who can help and who knows which United agent received the bag in SFO, is not picking up and not returning my call.  There is neither concern nor drive here to make sure a customer gets her bag, which would have made a difference in the process.  The goal comes across very clearly - get the hot potato out of their hands and shift the blame.
But My Trip Will Go On
I am not planning to have Southwest delayed luggage handling hold my 6-week trip hostage.  I have been without my luggage for over 5 days now.  I will just need to move on.  But there are things in there I need like the rest of my medicine, some things not easily replaced like sailing gear, 2 pairs of brand new walking shoes for walking all over UK and Europe that I spent time looking for...

ah. well. medical record in case I need it below the cut, arin’s having a rough night.
arin got a booster shot of the covid vaccine today (10:45am, pfizer same as previous set), it’s not actually recommended for the general public yet only the immunocompromised who may have had an inadequate response to the regular dosage. but she got vaccinated really early on and between that and the delta variant she decided to take matters into her own hands. I don’t know if she consulted with anyone else beforehand but it was something she put forethought into and like, scheduled and stuff.
she started feeling a little malaise by the time she got home from picking up my prescriptions (~3:30pm?), but puttered around for much of the evening just complaining about being achy and tired. 2x tylenol shortly after she got home, and again around 9:15pm. (ETA: she also reported a sore throat at some point during the evening although it was mild.)
suddenly beset by severe trembling and chills (shivering and hissing like an alaskan survival movie standing in our 74 degree kitchen) around 11:30pm? temp seemed okay but our thermometer is a little busted and generally returns both of us at 97.9 (which is where she was at).
went to bed very shortly after, wrapped in all her blankets and with her heated blanket on low. window closed, fan on but on the floor so it could theoretically blow on me but not her.
texted me at midnight to say she was still struggling and ask me to fetch an ambien. grabbed that, checked in with her, starting to feel a little nauseous too. the bag with her zofran was still in the car so I went down to get it. also brought her the pulse ox, 100% spo2 and 72 bpm (probably around 12:15am at this point?). I don’t know what to listen for to check her blood pressure. I suggested I call the nurse line and had to dick around with google searches for some godforsaken reason. got through to the school nurse line, wait time was several hours so I gave up and reported back.
as of ~12:40am, nausea feels under control, still cold but not panting and shivering like I left her outside in the middle of winter. “less bad”. I’m checking on her again at 1am by which time she expects the ambien to have kicked in better, she can have more tylenol as early as 1:15 and she probably should just in case. (1-2 every 4-6)
I also have permission to sleep in the living room so I’m not twitchy all night.
I hate emergencies. I’m very good at them and I hate them.
1am update: took tylenol, felt ready to stop check-ins and go to sleep but needed to go to the bathroom. harsh breathing like she was cold the second she left the covers even with her robe, but not as severe as before, and warmed up much faster once back in bed. only symptoms passive leg ache (bilateral), the chill, reactive pain in the injection site, and mild neck pain (probably due to bracing for the reactive pain). checked pulse ox again at around 1:20am, 100% spo2 but 100bpm so I’ll check again at 2am. also drank 1 nuun vitamin tablet water, since she reported being very thirsty. may just be hypovolemic as a consequence of the vaccine as even abled folks are recommended to drink some electrolytes beforehand and she Didn’t. better safe than sorry though.
2am update: 118-129bpm, 99-97% spo2. slightly less aching in the legs. makes me a little nervous, checking again at 2:30am.
2:30am update: bpm in the high 1-teens, spo2 still 97%. a little cold getting up, and reports that breathing more feels better, but turned off the heated blanket. also asked for the stethoscope for funsies, mitral stenosis without friction. arm hurts less. generally doing better. able to email supervisors, also just chat with me a bit about things other than immediate care needs. still thirsty but less severe. no further checkins required barring text alert.

Seattle, Washington
 May 24th to May 28th, 2018
A documentation of my mom and I’s adventures in the Emerald City.
Tumblr media
That is me by the actual Space Needle. I grew a bit, or maybe the needle shrunk a little. We may never know
The wonderful human being I get to call my mother takes her daughters on a long weekend trip to celebrate their college graduation. I choose the destination Seattle, Washington. Why there, you are thinking? Well, in all honesty, it probably stemmed from my minor obsession with Grey’s Anatomy. But the main reason I wanted to go to Seattle was that I have yet to experience the Northwest region of the States. The dream one day is the road trip the west coast, but I will save that for another adventure.
The trip started out pretty rough. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 6:40am Thursday morning. So that meant we had to leave our house at 4:00 am to drive and park our car at the airport. Wednesday night I was waitressing at Somerby, my summer job, and one of my coworkers was sick so I had to close that night and ended up leaving work at 2:30 am. By the time I got home, showered and finished packing it was 3:15am. I had time to take a 45-minute nap before we had to be in the car to catch our flight.
THURSDAY
I’ll fast forward through me getting crappy sleep on the plane in a no leg room plane to arriving in Seattle. Let me pause here for a second to explain what I pictured Seattle was going to be like. I pictured a Duluth like city, where all the building and houses are on one big hill, the water is stretched at the edge of the hill, the trees are green, the sky is grey, and hipsters are ruling the streets.
I was partially correct except I missed some majors parts that make the city what it is today. The graffiti, the homeless population, the horrible transportation system, and the lack of Minnesota nice.
For those who aren’t aware of how Seattle is set up, let me explain it. The airport is south of Seattle. Seattle is made up of different districts and sits on the edge of the Elliot Bay. Surrounding the bay is many large islands that can be accessed easiest by ferries.
Tumblr media
Okay, lets hit play now. We get our bags, follow the signs to the Link Light Rail system, and jump on the Link to head to the city (about a 35-minute ride). As we rode the link I felt as if I was Katiness (from the Hunger Games) riding the train through the districts on her victory tour. Every time the Link stopped, the area was different. First, it was all towering evergreens and beautiful houses, then it turned into an Asian American cultured area, then graffiti was covering all the buildings and houses were boarded up with chains on the windows. I wasn’t expecting such a prominent change going district to district.
We got off the Link at Pioneer Square, the closest district to the ferry terminal. We stepped foot onto the street to the smell of garbage, a lady screaming I MADE IT... WE’VE DONE IT, people mumbling to her to shut up, and a group of homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. I looked at Mom and thought I choose this city, oh god why did I do this to us.
We headed to the ferry terminal with our overpacked luggage trailing us. We stayed in an Airbnb on Bainbridge Island, so each day we were able to travel on the ferry and enjoy the beautiful views of the city.
Tumblr media
Our Airbnb, The Cottage
We settled into our little cottage and ferried back to the city to begin our long list of touristy things to see. We explored Pioneer Square’s hidden waterfall, took the Underground Tour and walked under the streets of Seattle, and got lost in Pike Place Market. It was a very long, full packed day.
FRIDAY
We took an uber to the ferry terminal in the morning. We ferried to Seattle in the morning with the plan to explore a couple more districts in the north. We took the link to Capitol Hill and then walked for about an hour. We wandered through gorgeous neighbors and down 45-degree hills. We reached the Japanese Gardens. It was a beautiful garden with a koi-filled pond in the middle. It was another tranquil area hidden within Seattle.
Tumblr media
The Japanese Gardens
We then Ubered back to the Capitol Hill station, because we were not about to walk up those hills! We ate at a local chain hot spot, Dick’s Drive-In then jumped back on the link and headed to the Seattle downtown center. We had to also jump on a monorail to actually reach the downtown area.
The downtown center is the home of the space needle, Chihuly Glass and Garden, MOPOP, weekly festivals, the Armory, and the Pacific Science Center. A folk festival was happening while we visited so we walked through all the pop tents and ended up sitting down with a physic. I am not completely sure if I trust physics but I gave it a try! My mom has always believed in this practices, so I am sure there is some truth to it. It was kind of an emotional process because you are so vulnerable. I enjoyed it although and would do it again.
We also went to the Chihuly Glass and Garden Museum. It is a beautiful museum that holds Dale Chihuly glass blown sculptures.  He is the same person that made those chandeliers in the Mayo Clinic Gonda Building in Rochester. It was a very cool experience to walk through.

We then used a shared bike system and biked towards the water to the look around the Olympic Sculpture Garden, an outside museum. We then biked the boardwalk, shopped around, and then ferried back to Bainbridge.
We ended up taking 6 different modes of transportation on Friday.
SATURDAY
Saturday was the most relaxing day of the four. We shuttled to the ferry terminal and then boarded the ferry. We were headed back to the airport to rent a car for our last two days. On the ferry, people would leave puzzles in booths so mom and I would race to finish the puzzle before the ferry reached Seattle.
Tumblr media

Once we got the car we headed to Alki Beach, a California like beach south of Seattle. People were playing volleyball, relaxing on the sand, even some kids were braving the ice cold water. We ate and shopped around for a bit then headed to Fremont, north of Seattle. We toured Theo’s Chocolate factory, shopped at this rad store called Evo. and visited the famous troll.

The Fremont Troll
SUNDAY
For our last day, we explored Bainbridge Island and then went to Seattle to tour some places we have yet to see. We grabbed breakfast at this little quaint cafe and ate on our cottage deck with the view of Mount Rainier. The mountain was so prominent all day long.
Tumblr media
The view of Mount Rainier on our way to the airport
Bainbridge Island is a gorgeous place. Most of the island is a forest with small neighborhoods and big houses tucked within it. We drove on the edge of the island, stopping at different beach access points. We walked on a beach and the view of the mountains was breathtaking. It took us a minute to realize that we were walking on a beach full of clam shells. With each step we took, we were shattering the shells.
We spent a few hours shopping the local businesses on Bainbridge Island before we ferried to Seattle for the last time. We went to the MOPOP, Museum of Pop Culture, and wandered the building for hours. It was full of a variety of exhibits all having to do with either music or film. There was this horror-themed room where there were interactive displays all around. Props used in famous horror films and tv shows filled the room. They even had severed heads they used in The Walking Dead and Michael Meyers costume that was worn in the Halloween films.

I had a great time exploring a new city and spending some one on one time with my mom. This trip will be a memory I will always cherish. Thank you Mom!

2 Tabuk villages placed on ECQ, all folks for retesting
#PHnews: 2 Tabuk villages placed on ECQ, all folks for retesting
BAGUIO CITY – The Regional Task Force (RTF) Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) and the local government of Tabuk City have placed two villages under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and ordered the testing anew of all residents after the aggressive community testing done in these areas showed a very high positivity rate.
Albert Mogol, RTF Covid-19 chairman and also head of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, on Monday said the local government has locked down Barangays Malinawa and Balawang upon the recommendation of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) that is in charge of the ongoing testing in Kalinga.
Malinawa showed a 33 percent positivity rate while Balawang has 11 percent and both have low test turn-out in the mass testing that the National Task Force (NTF) Covid-19 has initiated.
“Pina-lock down natin sila at pinapaulit ang testing para makuha natin ang totoong sitwasyon doon (we placed the villages under lockdown and we will conduct another testing so that we can see the actual situation there),” Mogol said.
“There might be other Covid-19 positive who were not yet tested,” he added.
On Feb. 20, Tabuk Mayor Darwin Estrañero has issued Executive Order 11-2021 placing the two villages under lockdown to intensify contact tracing and to prevent further transmission and spread of Covid-19.
He also ordered that all officials and residents submit themselves for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
Estrañero also ordered the observance of strict home quarantine in all households and limited movement of people.
The order also prevented minors, senior citizens, pregnant women, sick and immunocompromised individuals from going out of their residences except for medical emergencies.
Estrañero also ordered the imposition of a curfew from 8:00 in the evening to 5:00 a.m. A liquor ban was also imposed.
Mass transportation at the said villages was also ordered halted.
With the strict implementation of the quarantine rules, the mayor also ordered the setting up of checkpoints to and from the said villages.
Tabuk City and the rest of the municipalities in Kalinga are undergoing aggressive testing that started on Feb. 18 targetting 8,000 tests for the whole province. The testing is in response to the monitored high surges of Covid-19 cases in the province.
The PCR testing in the towns of Pasil and Lubuagan will be done after the tests at Tabuk City are done.
As of Feb. 21, Kalinga province has 356 active cases with 51 new Covid-19 cases. It has logged a total of 1,910 cases since 2020. (PNA)

Gaslighter-In-Chief Trump Criticizes Georgia For Reopening After Inciting His Supporters To Protest In States The Refuse To Reopen
Tumblr media
Trump is now criticizing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for reopening literally days after he incited his supporters to protest states that refuse to reopen. More inside…
Trump is SO wishy washy - whether it's intentional or due to a possible mental disorder - and it’s down right deadly during this Coronavirus pandemic.
Yesterday, Trump said he “strongly disagrees” with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to reopen businesses – such as nail salons and barbershops – LITERALLY a day after he praised Gov. Kemp during a White House press briefing.
"I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities," Trump said during a Coronavirus briefing. "But at the same time, he must do what he thinks is right. I want him to do what he thinks is right. But I disagree with him on what he's doing."
As you know, Trump said the governors would hold the power on when they’ll reopen their states – a day after he said he has all the power to tell the governors what to do. Kemp decided he would open nail salons, barbershops, movie theaters and more today. However, he claims the reopening is driven by the data – which we know not to be true since Georgia hasn’t even reached its peak yet.
Earlier today, I discussed Georgia's plan to reopen shuttered businesses for limited operations with @POTUS. I appreciate his bold leadership and insight during these difficult times and the framework provided by the White House to safely move states forward. (1/3) #gapol
— Governor Brian P. Kemp (@GovKemp) April 22, 2020
Kemp tweeted he appreciated Trump’s bold leadership, but he’s still going to reopen Georgia due to “favorable data & more testing.”

Our next measured step is driven by data and guided by state public health officials. We will continue with this approach to protect the lives - and livelihoods - of all Georgians. (2/3) #gapol
— Governor Brian P. Kemp (@GovKemp) April 22, 2020
Just like the thousands of businesses currently operating throughout Georgia, I am confident that business owners who decide to reopen will adhere to Minimum Basic Operations, which prioritize the health and well-being of employees and customers. (3/3) #gapol
— Governor Brian P. Kemp (@GovKemp) April 22, 2020
Surprisingly speaking with reason and common sense, Trump said he thought opening spas, beauty salons, tattoo parlors and barbershops “is just too soon."
"I love those people who use all those things," Trump said, "but they can wait a little bit longer."
That's odd, seeing that just a few days ago he tweeted for citizens in the states of Virginia, Michigan and Minnesote to protest the "stay-at-home" orders put in place for their states. He incited protests by telling them to "Liberate" their state.
By the way, who knew the Mayor of Las Vegas - who said she's willing to "sacrifice a few lives in her city" to determine if reopening is a good idea - is a piece of foolywang material by herself?
youtube
We're all Anderson Cooper.  When will it all end?
BONUS: While ATL Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made it known she would NOT be on board with her city reopening, despite Kemp's foolish decision, she's also facing racist attacks from folks because of it.

Absolutely horrible. Keep pushing, Mayor #KeishaLanceBottoms.

Well if definitely is a Monday folks. Hit snooze for 30 minutes. Still did my morning yoga! Just showered on the clock. Oh well. I will be more productive at work. Not eating in the morning is going well. Now I’m just struggling with snacking at night. Not really sticking to my day routine that I set up. May just mark wake up time/yoga, eating time and punch out time. Then from there, set 40 and 20 minute timers to be productive during. Following a schedule will help me a lot. There may be months to come with this issue.

Announcing BiblioSummit: Cities + Libraries 2017
Tumblr media
BiblioLabs is excited to announce that BiblioSummit will take place in Charleston, SC on November 7. The half-day event will be the fifth installment of BiblioSummit, expanding this year into the tech incubator Flagship 2 of The Charleston Digital Corridor, the perfect venue for discussing how libraries are conquering the digital space.
Register Now
SPECIAL GUEST: MARCUS AMAKER, CHARLESTON’S POET LAUREATE
Before and between panels, attendees will be treated to performances by Marcus Amaker, who was deemed Charleston’s first-ever poet laureate in 2016. Watch Marcus perform at Charleston TEDx with legendary jazz musician Quentin Baxter here.
Tumblr media
The event will include both breakfast and lunch, with an opening welcome from Scott Watson, Executive Director of The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, and closing comments from Ernest Andrade, Executive Director of The Charleston Digital Corridor Foundation.
“I am moderating both sessions at this event and I am not even pretending to be impartial,” said Founder & CEO of BiblioLabs, Mitchell Davis. “This event is about thinking way forward about libraries and the impact they have had and need to continue to have on bridging the digital divide. This is for anyone in the library community, or here in Charleston, who cares about equal access to information and a robust creative and cultural community.”
BiblioLabs will also be launching a citywide geolocated library in Charleston on November 7th alongside dozens of other cities in North America, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Kansas City and more.
Here are this year’s panel sessions:
HOW LIBRARIES ARE THRIVING IN THE DIGITAL WORLD
In the digital age, all bets are off as to how the future of libraries unfold. How will the mission of the library change and adapt to the new world dominated by giant media corporations? How are libraries experimenting with new models and working more closely with civic, nonprofit and community leaders to create digital information strategies for their citizens that are simple, highly visible and inclusive of the entire community?
Panelists include:
Tumblr media
Laura Cole Executive Director, BiblioTech Library (San Antonio, TX)
Tumblr media
Veronda Pitchford Director, Membership Development and Resource Sharing RAILS Consortia (Reaching Across Illinois Library Systems)
Tumblr media
Patrick “PC” Sweeney Political Director, EveryLibrary
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIBRARIES AND LEARNING
We live in a world that requires lifelong learning. Reflecting on his childhood education, author Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote in his pulitzer prize winning book, Between the World and Me, “I was made for the library, not the classroom. The classroom was a jail of other people’s interests. The library was open, unending, free.” How can communities leverage existing relationships and resources to provide a new kind of educational and cultural resource that evolves into the future?
Panelists include:
Tumblr media
Kate Lawrence VP of User Research, EBSCO
Tumblr media
Carl Pritzkat VP of Business Development & Executive Committee Member Publishers Weekly
Tumblr media
Jonathan Sanchez Owner, Founder, Blue Bicycle Books, YALLfest
Tumblr media
Nancy Kirkpatrick Associate Director Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS)
AFTERNOON ENTERTAINMENT: THE V-TONES
Tumblr media
After the closing comments, hang around and cut loose with Charleston’s own V-Tones. Unapologetically off-the-wall, The V-Tones bring a bit of flare to traditional folk, or well, as they put it: “Charleston’s only ukulele hot club jug band vaudeville ragtime neo-retro-post-postmodern beachfront quasi-primitive anachronistic revolutionary anti-inflammatory mass catharsis jazz freakout and philharmonic group therapy session.” Watch their music video for “Dinah” here.
FULL SCHEDULE:
8:30 AM: Breakfast 9:00 AM: Welcome (Scott Watson, Marcus Amaker) 9:20 AM: “How Libraries Are Thriving In The Digital World” 10:40AM: Break (w/ Marcus Amaker performance) 11:00AM: “The Relationship Between Libraries And Learning” 11:55AM: Closing Comments (Ernest Andrade) 12:00PM: Lunch (w/ V-Tones performance)
