I will never understand why Tumblr culture is so ok with the fetishization of gay men.
Like why do fandoms accept these behaviors? Why do they reward these posts with thousands and hundreds of thousands of notes? Why does no one call out the fact that it's Problematic and Gross? Someone's sexuality is not your fetish.
I can understand being afraid that people will call you homophobic, but let's point out that the main culprits of this fetishization behavior are straight white girls.

Gentle reminder that very little fandom labor is automated, because I think people forget that a lot.
That blog with a tagging system you love? A person curates those tags by hand.
That rec blog with a great organization scheme and pretty graphics? Someone designed and implemented that organization scheme and made those graphics.
That network that posts a cool variety of stuff? People track down all that variety and queue it by hand, and other people made all the individual pieces.
That post with umpteen links to helpful resources, and information about them? Someone gathered those links, researched the sources, wrote up the information about them.
That graphic about fandom statistics? Someone compiled those statistics, analyzed them, organized them, figured out a useful way to convey the information to others, and made the post.
That event that you think looks neat? Someone wrote the rules, created the blogs and Discords, designed the graphics, did their best to promo the event so it'd succeed.
None of this was done automatically. None of it just appears whole out of the internet ether.
I think everyone realizes that fic writing and fanart creation are work, and at least some folks have got it through their heads that gif creation and graphics and moodboards take effort, and meta is usually respected for the effort that goes into it, at least as far as I've seen, but I feel like a lot of people don't really get how much labor goes into curation, too.
If people are creating resources, curating content, organizing the creations of others, gathering information, and doing other fandom activities that aren't necessarily the direct action of creation, they're doing a lot of fandom labor, and it's often largely unrecognized.
Celebrate fan work!
To folks doing this kind of labor: I see you, and I thank you. You are the backbones of our fandoms and I love you.

running around in circles. nimona and ballister. do you get it. she wakes up from a nightmare and immediately calms down when he comforts her because she trusts him. he quite literally jumps off a balcony because he knows she’ll catch him. she tells him what shapeshifting feels like. lets him bandage her leg. he’s absolutely overjoyed when he sees her again at the end. he goes from rejecting her to accepting her to begging her to come back to rejoicing when she does. not only does she come back to life but she comes back to HIM. to her HOME. SHE FINDS HIM AGAIN IN ANOTHER LIFETIME. SHE GOES BACK TO HIM ON PURPOSE. DO YOU GET IT.

I love the QSMP. Not only has it introduced me to many amazing international creators, it's also introduced me to the French and Brazilian community, who are so sweet, funny, and chaotic in their own unique ways. I love seeing fans sharing their culture and learning from one another, and I myself have learned a lot this past year. I think it's incredible how QSMP brings so many different people together – all of us united in our love and passion for this project and its goals.
But passion can often evoke strong emotions, and these strong emotions aren't always positive.
The past few months, I have seen multiple waves of hate, bad-faith generalizations of communities, and racist remarks directed at fellow fans – especially those who are part of the French / Brazilian community. This kind of behavior is inexcusable, and is in direct conflict with the mission of QSMP, which is to break language barriers and unite communities.
We are a global community with a variety of people from different backgrounds. Miscommunications may occasionally occur because of cultural differences and/or language barriers, but we should use these moments as opportunities to learn and engage with other people rather than assuming the worst about them and starting fights.
Although certain issues can be resolved with communication, sometimes it’s better to block and move on. Avoid spreading negativity or hate, and save yourself the headache of interacting with people who are just looking for someone to argue with.
No matter what community we're a part of or what languages we speak, we're all here to have fun. Please remember to be kind to each other. We have more in common than we have in conflict.

Nah, you know what makes my blood boil?
Seeing characters degraded, vilified, and desecrated in the name of ship wars.
No, Aang did not strip Katara of her agency nor did he only accept the "digestible" parts of her, leave my baby alone.
No, Zuko isn't just a selfish colonizer, bro did not have one of the greatest arcs of all time for you to reduce him to that.
No, Katara wasn't just a mother to everyone, for fuck's sake, did we watch the same show?
I can go on and on and fucking on, but all I'm gonna say is I'm fucking tired of y'all's shipping discourse.
It was never that serious, it will never be that serious.
I think that both Zutara and Kataang are great ships in their own right, with their respective pros and cons. I also think it comes down to personal taste.
Of course, people can have differing opinions on characters, regardless of the inclusion of ships or not. But at the very least, stick to your own.
Ship and let ship. Remember when this was fun?
Don't invade spaces that aren't yours to start trouble, and stay appropriate with the tags. Fandom etiquette, it's pretty neat.
Y'all suck the joy out of everything.

SVSSS is a novel with a fandom.
[ID: A Scum Villain edit of the "missing the point" meme. A bullet arcs from velinxi art of child Shen Jiu kneeling while furiously glaring. The bullet says, "People are not entirely one thing or the other and holding them to these extremes ignores the complexities that come with their humanity." It arcs over the head of a person across from it, who ignores the bullet and exclaims: "Wow!! Shen Jiu's only crime was being mean and was wrongly hated!" End ID]

Calling out specific fandoms is not the move
The people who play so-and-so game also watch so-and-so show and support so-and-so streamer. Everyone hops interest to interest and their attitudes and biases follow. The borders of online communities and tags and forums are imaginary.
There is no one group to blame, there is no gas leak source, there's no villain, its everywhere, its societal, not a unique symptom of one sub-culture over another like please dude cmon.

deeply embarrassing when someone accuses me of butting into fandom discourse as an outsider and I have to be like um actually I have nearly a million words written & posted on ao3. do you know how many fandom discords I’ve modded since 2017. do you know how popular I was in the star wars fandom. I even had to read about international shipping and tax law to run a charity fanzine. instant L for me personally. this is the price you pay for talking about fandom on tumblr

this is your daily reminder that there is not one true “biggest fan” of a band or musician. whether you’ve listened to their music for ten years or ten days, all that matters is what that music has done for you. if you own every single album on vinyl and tens of thousands of streams on spotify, or if you have a couple of playlists and are still learning about that musician, it doesn’t make you MORE or LESS of a fan than anyone else.
stop gatekeeping musicians. you’re not better than anyone if you’re the top listener. your spotify stats don’t prove anything. just appreciate the music you listen to and stop acting like you OWN a certain band.
