One thing that was very interesting to me in this episode is the way Eddie was just... not joking about Buck's love interests.
That stuck out.
Usually when Eddie talks to Buck about his love interests, it's with an edge of fond exasperation, teasing laced around his gently delivered truths, but there was none of that this episode. Buck told Eddie he went to see Natalia and it was like something switched. Eddie's entire affect changed when Buck started talking about Natalia. He went from being loose and easy (as loose and easy as one can get when standing at a grave) to being... not combative, necessarily, but visibly actively not wanting to engage in conversation about her either, and it's not...
It's not even jealousy!! We joke a lot about Eddie and jealousy, but it wasn't that at all. It was a fatigue that comes with silence, that comes with holding your tongue, that comes with keeping secrets. Especially when Buck said that he feels like Natalia sees him. That look Eddie gave him immediately after? That was pure hurt. That was him saying I see you too, I've always seen you. But he can't say that. He can't say that, because to say that would be to say so many other things about the way he sees Buck, and to say so many other things would mean to have to unstick his tongue from the roof of his mouth about the ONE thing he's been holding onto ever since he was shot.
I don't know. I don't know, but I think Eddie taking Buck on a date and I think about how Eddie left his son—his heart—in Buck's care so they could bake cookies together (which becomes profoundly more significant in an episode where Christopher was talking about baking smores with his mom), and I think about Kenny saying Ryan has been doing some very nuanced work in the back half of this season, I'm like
Oh. Oh. I see it, thank you. Loud and clear.

telling myself i can't start another tdwt rewrite but dear god do i want to write one focusing on alejandro and courtney in this weird situationship thats a lot more nuanced than just alejandro manipulating courtney and her falling for it. like theyre best friends they dont trust each other theyre the same person they dont know anything about the other one theres a mutual attraction theyre pining for other people theyre codependent they dont care about each other theyre platonic soulmates like i just want to do a deep dive into how messy that relationship couldve been building off of their friendship that exists in my head except the line between romantic and platonic is so fucking blurred they have no idea what they are to the other person

hold on i need to get a thought and emotions out. so with Welcome Home, there seems to be a before and an after. obviously, we're in the after. the website is the after. and if it turns out that the story we see, the one where shit hits the fan and the show is practically erased, then... that already happened. whatever horrors we see, we'll know that there is no saving them. there is no happy ending - it happened, and it's tragic. the show is doomed to end and be scrubbed away. if any of the characters are revealed to be dead/gone by the website, then when/if we see them at an earlier point, we'll Know
and there's a special kind of dread and horror in that for us, the audience.

idk why ppl rag on sonia nevermind for being useless in sdr2? like she was useful during most investigations. she had more agrees during the trials than anyone except maybe nanami and komaeda. she contributes to investigations and even does her own investigative work? like in chapter 5 with the ruins.
and even outside of that she's running around trying to get everyone to get along after twogami died. like with her beach party and how she was checking up on saionji in chapter 3. shes one of the more extroverted members of the cast holding everyone else together
and aside from her usefulness she's not bland either? she does have a character arc? sonia attaches to ppl in the cast very quickly. she tries for three chapters to make everyone get along. and the one time she stops focusing on that the guy she likes ends up killing someone. initially she sees all the murders as a betrayal of her friendship with the killers but tanaka shows her that to survive they sometimes have to resort to ruthlessness means aka getting someone killed.
and like, she talks about this EVERY chapter. she's in denial that ppl shes friends with can ever betray her for 5 chapters straight. even though it happens again and again. so by trial 5 she's had enough of suspecting any friend and breaks down on the stand from 5 chapters of that. and by the end of that she has to follow through with what tanaka told her, and let nanami sacrifice herself for the others.
previously in the game, the ppl sonia cared about were killed by monokuma against her will. but in chapter 5 she lets nanami make her choice because she trusts in her friend's care for them. like this is sonia's chapter! it's hinata's and nanami's and komaeda's chapter as well but this is where sonia's character arc hits its peak! at least until chapter 6 where everyone learns a life lesson about living for the future and whatnot.
and it's like, sonia's character arc is one of the more subtle ones in the game. when kuzuryu's doing seppuku over peko you're probably going to miss sonia's laments about feeling betrayed and whatnot. the game puts the most attention on her when exploring the sonia-tanaka-souda love triangle and ppl (me) find it annoying. her arc can be hit or miss, her humor is subjective, and she looks like the most basic bitch on the planet so i understand why she gets overlooked.
but like. she's not a static character? she does things in the plot? like the notion that she's not an active agent in the story is just not true lmao i think ppl who think that just weren't paying attention.

I just woke up from a nap but didn't Kanata used to take naps on Kaoru when they were in school in the Marine Bio club and they both individually needed to decompress from life? I'm just imaging a Kaoru who can't sleep or doesn't want to sleep gently playing with Kanata's hair, loosely braiding it or wrapping it around his finger while Kanata is softly snoring and leaning into Kaoru's touch.
Or one of the rare times that Kaoru is the one sleeping, Kanata just being there to watch over him and make sure he isn't disturbed because Kanata can tell Kaoru hasn't been sleeping well and wants to give him the time he needs to rest.
Or both of them napping together, either on top of each other or just in the room, separate but basking in the comfort of a familiar and calming presence as the whirring of the fish tanks lulls them to sleep

I once read a fic where Bruno reused coffee cups with the coffee ring still there and his family thought it was gross...
I do that too. It's extra flavour. Y'know, It would be gross if I put milk in my cup too, but it's black coffee or tea without additions, so why not just keep using it?
Once in a while, I do wash it. Just not very often...

This might not be anything, but while writing about your fics, the way you have the characters' mannerisms down PERFECTLY got me thinking about mirroring...
There's a lot of it in 7 (Horii is a directorial genius etc etc), most of it more intentional than these probably are, but there's something so interesting about mirroring that takes the tone of a (relatively) fond memory, a familiar gesture, and inverts it in the way shown here.
OH I'M GLAD YOU'VE NOTICED THESE TOO I think I mentioned it months back (or I drafted a post 'bout it but didn't think it was anything noteworthy) but I always really did like how the Arakawa Family mimicked each other's mannerisms (also circling back to how Jo and Masato calling Ichiban 'Ichi' presumably after picking it up from Arakawa)!
Aoki actually does the same sitting gesture too! I went back to double check and skim through the rest of the game's cutscenes, and as far as I could tell unless I skipped a scene, it really is only these three that do this specific pose:
It's such a small detail but I love it immensely and it really does highlight their connections with each other and it drives me insane
