Goodbye Kisses
(Prompted by myself on my birthday because help, I love them so much T^T) (Ko-fi and commission info in my blog header)
--
It mattered not how many times they said goodbye, each time still broke another piece of his heart.
There were times Jaskier had ample warning. Days or even weeks to steel himself, to play the brilliant actor he prided himself to be. Ample time to remind himself quite sternly what he was to his witcher, his noble white wolf, the man who had swept into his life with all the flair and cheer of a beaten and tired mutt and had promptly and oh so very rudely stolen his heart.
A heart that many had attempted to steal in the past, might he add.
Those blessed days, hours, weeks - whatever time he had to fish his heart back from his sleeves and shove it back in his chest to be guarded like it had never wanted to be - they were all that saved him from certain embarrassment and rejection. For every single time, no matter that he knew it would end, he allowed himself to be a fool and believe that their journey would go onward. That every morning he could wake up bleary and far too late to his witcher grousing over their late start. That every afternoon would find him practicing his lute and songs while he danced his way down whatever trail laid before them, following after Roach’s twitching tail and the regal visage of Geralt, the most dearest man to his heart.
It was not one of those times, however.
“Leaving,” was the only grunted explanation he got as Geralt brushed past him, Jaskier left blinking after him where he stood still in the doorway to the room they’d planned on sharing for the next few days at the very least. It took far too many seconds for his thoughts to catch up to him, the silly grin he’d had frozen on his lips, laughter caught and dying in his throat.
“Wh- hold on, wait! Garelt!” Jaskier danced a little in the doorway, unsure of whether to take off after his companion given his own stuff was still strewn all about their room - everything but the lute strapped to his back and the smaller of his coin purses that he’d kept to collect the connected bar’s patron’s generous donations at his performance. With great effort he stopped staring after him, sweeping wide eyes about the room, already mourning the loss of what he couldn’t grab in the next 30 seconds: the blackberry wine he’d been planning on breaking out this very night would have to be abandoned, as well as much of his clothes - oh, it would cost him a small fortune to replace them all, and his heart cried even as he ran about and scooped up what little he could before stumbling right back out the door, regretting that last pint of ale as it left him fumbly and even dropping some of the precious few things he’d managed to stuff in his arms.
It was a miracle in and of itself that he didn’t bumble into anyone on his rush down the hall and stairs, and another that he managed the door by himself with his hands and arms otherwise occupied. At least no grace from the gods was required to find Geralt, all Jaskier needed to do was head straight for the stable that was attached to the inn.
“Geralt!”
He spotted his witcher just as Geralt was swinging his leg up and over Roach, the mare already saddled and packed and grouchy from being awoken far too early for her liking. She tried her best to reach back and nip at her burden even as Geralt nudged her forward, stopping her only after a few feet when Jaskier stumbled in front of them.
“What are you doing?”
“What do you mean, what am I doing?” Gesturing with his arms so full of precious belongings was a bad idea but that didn’t occur to him until after he’d already done it, and attempting to catch the turquoise and emerald silk shirt only made him drop something else. “Dropping everything I own in the muck and grime is what I’m doing apparently - that was a gift, you know! A gift from my mother on her sick bed. Sure, sure, she recovered, but that’s not the point of things, Geralt, some warning would have been nice!”
“I’m leaving.”
“Oh, well darling, I didn’t notice, what with the whole storming out and straddling Ms. Nips-A-Lot - hey! No!” Roach knew exactly when he sassed about her and proved the name right, Jaskier barely dodging one of her hard nips that was aimed at his shoulder. It was luck and luck alone that kept all the rest of his things in his arms and far away from the mud below. “I meant advanced warning, Geralt, half a minute is not enough time for me to pack. And the least you could do is help me!”
Geralt grunted at him, and it was only thanks to their years of travelling together off and on that Jaskier could recognize it as his impatient grunt - which only made him want to huff indignantly, considering it wasn’t his fault he couldn’t get ready at the drop of a hat. But before he could properly huff at him Geralt slid off of Roach to help him.
Or...not. Instead of taking any of his stuff, or maybe opening one of the packs Roach was carrying, Geralt just oh so helpfully clapped Jaskier on the shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze as he leaned down to meet Jaskier’s gaze - and just that simple act of holding his gaze had Jaskier’s heart in his throat. Melitele help him but those eyes would be the death of him. He could drown in the abyss of them, captured and held prisoner but hardly against his will, lost in a sea of amber and warmth many would think so unlike his dear withcer-
“I’m leaving, Jaskier. Not you.”
Oh.
“Oh,” Jaskier said, the fluttering thing in his stomach dropping like a stone. Well. Just like his witcher to put a damper on things.
“Too dangerous.”
“How is it any more dangerous than what we’ve already been through together?” Jaskier tried to not get too distracted when Geralt’s hand slipped from his shoulder and down his arm, still firm on him, making it unfairly difficult to muster up a decent argument as Geralt took his elbow and started to guide him back to the tavern entrance. “When we met I followed you straight towards a devil, remember? Sure it wasn’t an actual devil but neither of us knew any better-”
“Devils aren’t real, Jaskier.”
“-and I still followed you right along, and ended up perfectly fine! Oh, and remember the dragon? A dragon, Geralt, how on earth could anything out here in the middle of bloody nowhere could be more dangerous than a DRAGON?”
Geralt gave him a look that suggested he was being difficult on purpose. “I don’t slay dragons. There was never going to be a fight.”
Any further protests were put to a stop before they could continue, hardly even a stammered out start passing Jaskier’s lips before Geralt was opening the tavern door for him, giving a squeeze to his arm before dropping the contact between them. “Stay here, and out of trouble if you can manage it. I’ll come back.”
Normally, Jaskier would have made a fuss over the insinuation that he might gravitate towards trouble - because, really, it was the other way around. Not that the end results mattered much which way it worked. It came down to semantics, really, but Jaskier still would not have taken the insinuation without at least trying to set the record straight a little. But…
But his heart had not been normal of late, nor had his mind. And with no time to prepare for Geralt’s rather sudden departure he’d had no time to school his reactions, no time to remind himself how he’d normally do things: what he’d say, how exactly his hand or arm would flourish in gesture, what emotions he should allow into his tone without raising any sort of suspicion.
So it wasn’t exasperation that colored his tone, no played up hurt nor frustration to punctuate his words when Jaskier half-turned to look up at his witcher, breath almost catching at how even on a dreary day like this Geralt managed to look neigh on ethereal in his beauty - when all Jaskier managed to ask him was “When?”
When would he again be allowed to get lost within that heated gaze, time having little meaning, the world fading into the distance? When would his nights end in laughter rather than the drop after a performance, his high from the crowd leaving him at an incredible low, alone without his dearest witcher to keep his thoughts at bay and far away from the darkened sea they went to on their own? When would he know beyond a shadow of a doubt that his Geralt was safe and relatively unharmed, unmaimed at the very least, able to return to him at all?
“When I’m done.”
Ever the romantic to match his thoughts. Jaskier huffed out air through his nose, readjusting his grip on the mountain of things in his arms, Geralt’s blunt honesty cutting through his rather melodramatic mode decently enough. Not well enough to have him rid of all the rather sticky feelings that loved to pop up unbidden, but without the clouds that usually left him dampened in their presence all those sticky feelings left Jaskier feeling rather...wistful, and, dare he say, whimsical.
Perhaps his mother was onto something when she said his moods changed less like seasons and more flittered by like insects swarming in the summer heat.
If he had had perhaps even an hour to prepare for this goodbye, Jaskier would not have done anything so far removed from their normal interactions and behavior. But that time had not been given to him, and the warmth from Geralt’s hand could still be felt on his arm, and Jaskier’s heart was skipping beats in his chest knowing it was concern that had his witcher so set on going it alone - and seeing it clear as the dawn itself in those beautiful eyes of gold.
With as much grace as he could muster with his arms ladened so, Jaskier closed the short distance between him and his friend. He couldn’t tell if it was shocked surprise that held Geralt still or not, or what kept him from jerking away as he’d always expected him to if Jaskier had ever dared to be so bold, but Geralt did not move back - and Jaskier found his lips brushing against the silver stubble on his cheek, rough against his own chapped skin but it barely registered against the thundering heartbeat that sounded in his ears.
A light kiss to his cheek was all he managed, and it amazed him long into the night that he found his voice past it all. “Be careful, darling.” Being so close to him Jaskier saw Geralt’s breathing stutter at the endearment, and like a good storyteller he took careful note of that and squirreled it away for later, leaning back away just enough to look up and catch the way Geralt was looking at him. “I’d hate to be a bard with no company.”
Upon reflection, getting to see his oh so completely and frustratingly composed witcher shift his weight nervously after such a simple thing was more than worth the slip in his own emotional composure. Even the muddied belongings were worth it when weighed against the delayed grunt of response, the flickering gaze towards Jaskier and away again, and the sudden start to Geralt’s movements that finally started him back towards Roach without another word.
Maybe goodbyes weren’t the worst after all if they involved such an adorably flustered boy (and, Jaskier thought, his own gaze flickering downward shamelessly, it never really was a burden to watch him walk away).

It took Anne less than five minutes from meeting Thomas at the sanitary shack on his way home to winning him over for a hot make-out session behind the wooden building. His vulnerable emotional state and his hurt pride made it easy for her. Her back pressed against the wall he kissed her hungrily, caressing her crisp little tits. His Ex may have ditched him because she considered him to be a bore but she still appreciated his skills as a lover. And so, from time to time, they had a little fun together - no strings attached.
A loud moan escaped Thomas' mouth when Anne massaged his rock-hard dick through his trousers.
"Shush, silly. We don't want someone to interrupt us, do we." Anne giggled, laying a finger on his lips.
"It's your fault. You make me moan." Thomas replied, his voice thick with arousal.
"I'm sorry." Anne kissed him, her hand still on his cock.
"Get him out." Thomas whispered in her ear. "Touch him."
"You don't have to tell me twice." Anne grinned before she unbuttoned his jeans, shoving them down his legs together with his boxers. She started stroking his cock skillfully.
"Anne..." Thomas groaned. "Be a good girl and suck me off, okay? Daddy really needs it tonight." "Sure, daddy. Whatever you wish." She looked at him with big round eyes, batting her long eyelashes innocently, falling to her knees right away. She was into daddy kink and he knew which buttons to push to make her do what he wanted. And what he wanted right now was to ease the tension and get rid of all the frustration inside of him. In short...he needed to get off. He hadn't had sex in a while. Since he'd fallen for Kasey he just didn't feel like shagging some random girl. So it had been less fucking and more jerking off in the shower since then, but tonight he needed something more.  He needed to get Kasey out of his system. Turned out it wasn't that easy.
Thomas leaned back, his head resting on the moist wood of the wall, his eyes closed, his breath going fast.
When he felt her tongue on the tip of his dick, circling the head seductively, it wasn't Anne's tongue. He couldn't help but deceive himself by imagining it was Kasey's pretty little mouth that was wrapped around his member. Tight and wet and eagerly sucking his dick. When he opened his eyes, bending his head slowly he imagined seeing Kasey's full lips, sliding up and down his length. It was her honey blonde hair, he grabbed, burying his hands in the thick, soft silk, not Anne's short whiteblond strands.
"Fuck...you're doing great, baby girl. Go on, make daddy cum." he moaned, his voice hoarse and demanding.
She sucked him harder, pumping his dick faster, squeezing his balls. Damn, the girl knew how to give a blow job. He imagined Kasey would do it even better, maybe deep throating him.
With this picture on his mind he came hard, spilling a hot shot of cum into Anne's mouth.
"Kasey!" he grunted breathless, thrusting his hips, shoving his cock deep inside her mouth, savouring the last waves of his orgasm.
Anne rose to her feet abruptly, drops of cum on her lips, fuming.
"Kasey? Are you serious?" she shouted angrily, wiping her mouth. "You cry out the name of another woman, coming in my fucking mouth? Am I a joke to you, Thomas?"
"I'm sorry, Anne...I don't know what has gotten into me." He reached out for her but she shoved him away.
"Don't touch me, asshole. Ever. Again." she hissed, her eyes shooting daggers at him.
"You are so pathetic." she added with a disgusted grin. "Fucking all those girls but too chicken to make a move on her? Or probably you hit on her and she turned you down."
"Anne..." getting his dick back in his pants, he tried to interrupt her but she wouldn't let him.
"I mean...she's well out of your league, Tommy, you know that, huh? Kasey is classy. She wouldn't want a sissy like you."
"Please shut up, Anne." Thomas said pleadingly with a threatening undertone. But she just crossed her arms in front of her chest, not willing to stop her rant. "Everybody knows she's anxiously waiting for Parker anyway. He's the one she wants. And I understand her. He's awesome. Hot as fuck, smart. Tattoos all over his shredded body. A real man, not some whimpering boy..."
"Stop it, Anne."
"And he's her age. You are too young for her. Do you really think she wants a 20 year old bore when she can have a 25 year old man of action? A leader, not a grunt..."
"Shut up! Shut your fucking mouth. You don't have a clue who she wants and what's going on between us." Thomas shouted, raging with fury.
Anne jumped, looking scared for a split second, but regaining control fast, when it dawned on her. "You love her!" Anne laughed almost hysterically. "This is hilarious. You love Kasey." Thomas stared at her, unable to say anything. Unable to deny the obvious.
"Well, Tommy, Karma is a bitch, right? Of all the single women in this camp you choose the only one you can't have because she's too smart to fall in love with a moron like you."
"Fuck you, Anne."
"No...fuck you, Thomas." she said, showing him the finger. "Fuck you and never talk to me again." And then she went away, leaving him frustrated, angry and desperate.
***
When Thomas stormed into their hut ten minutes later, slamming the door behind him so hard it almost took off its hinges, Minho woke up with a jolt, his hammock rocking like crazy.
"Jesus, Tommy, what the fuck?" he mumbled sleepy, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry, man. Didn't mean to wake you."
"Didn't work."
"Yeah." Thomas said with a deep sigh, plopping down on his bed, taking off his boots and his trousers before sliding under the sheets.
"What's up? You look like shit. Everything all right?" Minho asked with a frown.
"Let's just say I had a rough night, okay?"
"What's happened? You were fine when you left like what...two hours ago?"
"Nothing. I'd rather not talk about it, okay?" Thomas turned around to face the wall, closing his eyes, hoping his friend was going to leave him alone.
"No, it's not okay. You should see yourself, you look like a zombie. Just fucking tell me what happened, shank." Minho insisted.
"You wanna know what happened?" Thomas jumped out of his bed, starting to pace the little room like a lunatic with a grim look on his face. "I'm gonna tell you what happened, okay?" his voice was vibrating with emotion now. Minho wasn't sure whether his friend was about to burst into tears or to throw a tantrum.
"In the last one and a half hours I had a very emotional conversation with Kasey, then I kissed her and she kissed me back, making me a happy man but then she changed her mind and turned me down, 'cause she knows I'm nothing but a cheap fuckboy. And being the stupid asshole I am, I couldn't find the words to tell her I love her, before Quincy showed up out of nowhere, interrupting us."
"Wow, Tommy..."
"Oh no, man. Keep listening. I'm not done yet. Instead of asking Quincy to give us a minute and talking to Kasey, I just left like a bloody coward. Five minutes later I ran into Anne and what do you think...I had nothing better to do than try to get rid of all that sexual and emotional frustration by letting her give me a blow job behind the sanitary shack. And if that wasn't bad enough I accidentally called her Kasey, my dick balls deep in her mouth, which caused a huge fight between us. That's what happened."
Minho gaped at him, speechless for seconds, that felt like hours for Thomas.
"For heaven's sake, Minho. Say something."
"Yeah...well...shit, Tommy. That's the worst I've heard in a while."
"Oh great, thanks my friend." Thomas rolled his eyes, sinking down on a chair, tired and exhausted.
"Sorry, that I'm a little taken aback." Minho replied sarcastically. "I didn't even know there's something going on between you and Kasey. That you like her...well at least not like this."
"Yeah. I do..."
And then Thomas told his friend the story properly, right from the beginning. From the day he fell for Kasey Miller head over heels to tonight's events by the campfire.
"You know you have to talk to her first thing in the morning, right? Tell her how you feel and tell her what happened behind the sanitary shack. Before Anne does."
"You think she would?" Thomas' eyes widened in shock.
"Maybe. You know she can be a crazy little bitch sometimes."
"Right." Thomas sighed. "Do you think Kasey loves me too?" he added almost whispering.
"To be honest, mate. I don't have a clue. But she kissed you, right? And we know she wasn't just looking for a shag. So she must have kissed you because she likes you. I would say you have a real chance."
"Thanks, Minho." Thomas said stifling a yawn.
"Anytime, Thomas. That's what friends are for. And now let's try to get some sleep."

Things I like RP partners to know
Copied from @sundered-souls and @scholarlostintime :p
I like to be called: Nova ( with any pronouns ) or A'vett since I feel very close to him x'D
Tumblr media
Several things you should know about me:
I always like to say that english isn't my native language first. Which makes it had for me to get FF specific things right sometimes ^^; I hate to admit it but it took me months after I created this blog to find out about the "Scions of the seventh dawn" :'D
I dunno if this is a thing but I honestly only finished one (1) RP so far ^^; With finished I mean like...where both sides say "this is the end" and they may meet again one time. I would love to finish more T.T So please forgive me if I'm sorta hyped in it to keep on going. ( Maybe this is what dooms me always and ppl leave :'D )
One thing you should know about my muse(s):
His fear about the tailless thing? I mean this is nothing he likes to show but I think it should be mentioned x'D I mean there are a few things but those are mostly like a normal interaction so I won't mention them here ^^; I really like to keep every RP sorta unique. Means I normally don't effect other chars interactions ( ok expect Fennie as teacher cause this is way too perfect X'D )
One thing might be something....I have young and adult A'vett if you don't know XD I normally RP with adult A'vett who studied and works at his fathers bakery and his hobbies are magic, alchemy and stuff. Young A'vett ( as he looks in the picture at the header) is deeply in love with Haurchefant and is normally part of my story only XD I don't mind going as him but there we have a timeline where Haurchi lives and still leads camp dragonhead :3
First language: German
Age range: under 13  |  14–17 | 18–22 | 23–25 | 26–29 | 30+ | 70+
Am I okay with NSFW? yes | no | some nsfw ( some f things are ok but nothing bloody)
My favorite/most common thing to rp is: angst | fluff | smut | crack | action | plots | AUs | violence | slice of life | performances ( Ok for all of these things I have some HC about A'vett. Happy, dark and akward :'D )
Canon character friendly: yes | no | depends
Yes please~ I mean Ishgardians are always welcome hehe Other Miqo'te too ( * coughs Kee-Satt ) Well, A'vett is really friendly to mostly everyone. So I normally forget the bad taste I have personally against the NPC and play it as A'vetts feels about them :'D ( yh I won't burn G'raha or Estinien lol )
RP blog: does contain ooc posts | doesn’t contain ooc posts | occasionally contains ooc
Well sometimes yes. But even there I try to keep it A'vett related XD My mainblog is @thedangerv and there goes mostl of my OOC shitposts :'D
Tagged by: None but will count the two mentioned above for it XD
Tagging: @confusedtia @nyarumi-nyan @roguestly @hiraethwyl @mathemagiks @istolin @ynuloh-nunh @tavard-ffxiv @ffxivvalentinnoix @micaryn-tia @talitiaskauffxiv @ayoaibori @lady-isedaire
yeah sorry XD Went through my following list and found all these awesome ppl here haha

Hey y'all, just wanted to post a quick update about what's happening.
So I've mentioned before the logistical problems I'm having with writing updates, but the individual games that I'm doing themselves have their own damn problems:
Dawn and Dusk are just so damn awkward to do both at once! There's no easy way to set up the two folders of images to be visible at the same time, the text is too small to read even on the largest folder size and I didn't necessarily do the same things at the same time for each game, making it extra difficult to sync up. (At least it's the only time I have to do two games at once NO WAIT IT ISN'T I get to do this twice more! One time with THREE GAMES AT ONCE!!! why do I do this to myself lmao)
Digimon World 2 has that weird mix up with the video order, and I can't figure out if the ones I need are missing or just in the wrong order or what the heck. Being that it's a game that I'm far less familiar with than, say, Digimon World 1 was, I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out exactly what is missing.
It doesn't help that both Digimon World 2 and Dawn/Dusk were games that dragged out for SO LONG near the end of my actually playing them (both my fault to be fair, DW2 I didn't get the hang of efficient DNA Digivolving and Dawn/Dusk I got carried away in leaving them to grind on the Farm Islands), so in my brain I've already spent far too long on them already. They're pretty sparse on actual content in the videos, a staple of the RPG genre, to be fair.
Even the anime is giving me trouble! The setup it requires disrupts my usual workspace - I have to change the TV away from the usual podcasts and let's plays that I usually have in the background of my working, which mucks up my layout with all the folders and everything, and I need to switch frequently between actively watching it and having background music on while I caption and write. Hell, having to go back and forth between the show and photoshop when I have to caption a long line is an ordeal in itself. Plus... and this is entirely an opinion based problem, but I get the same arc fatigue from the Dark Masters arc that I did from the two games. It's a great arc, I enjoy a lot of it, but I'm also sitting there going "okay that's great but be over soon! It's time for 02! It's so clooooose!!" I'm aware that this is very much a Me Problem. Also, if I don't go back to it at all, then Piximon will be fine forever! :(
Even the games I'm currently playing are being bastards! The one that I've already talked about in the previous post, which I referred to as Adventuring with Giant Lizards, is giving me serious end game fatigue also of my own doing as I finish up sidequests and the like. This isn't entirely arbitrary, I ended up having to do some major grinding anyway. I'm actually very close to being able to fight the final boss I think, so hopefully I can get that finished soon. I recently finished the game that will come after Monster Racers, lets call it Super Mafia Bros, but the sequel is giving me a hard time right now. Soooooo all of that to say that video games are making me sad.
Monster Racers is being good... for now. Once I get to the part where I had to grind a lot it'll be hell, but for now it's a dream. The fact that it's the only one that isn't giving me problems kinda sucks though. Like, one day out of seven the blog doesn't feel like a burden! Hooray?
I really can't keep leaving the games I'm posting for so long between updates, it means I spend half of the time I'm updating trying to figure out what has happened already and then not making any progress. But it's also very difficult to actually get into the headspace for it at the moment, as well. So I'm thinking two possible solutions, both of which I can use at once. One, I remove the obligation to post every day and the schedule from the header - I'm not posting daily anyway and the header looks terrible. Two, I shelve one of the two Digimon games, probably DW2, and come back to it later. When I finish the game that was meant to replace whichever of these two games finished first, I start posting that, and come back to the shelved game later. Part of me is wondering if I've just started to get sick of Digimon all the time! Maybe it'd be nice to have a detox of it for a while.
I did even wonder about doing a different show for a bit, even maybe one or two episodes of something not on the list. Contenders include the original 1965 series Get Smart, and that one episode of The Simpsons that I harvested screenshots from for that one post about Tim that I have on hand anyway. Get Smart would be kinda fun for a bit maybe, it's very repetitive so it'd get old after a while but it might be fun and it's very ripe for mockery, as well as being a huge shift away from Digimon. Plus I could turn on the subtitles and harvest those too, so I wouldn't have to caption it manually!
I mean.... I should probably talk about the elephant in the room, which is that the anime posts are the ones that people generally like more. I get a few new followers after the weekend posts, and maybe one or two occasionally during the week. If I were desperate for followers, I'd switch to mainly anime posts and have the games be a side thing... but the games are the fun part for me, so I'm not gonna do that. Sorry to anyone who followed for the anime posts! (ALSO I recently passed 300 followers so yay! Thanks! Sorry there's been no fucking content!)
Oh, as long as I'm talking schedules and future games, I should mention another game on the list. I've already told at least one person this anyway, so might as well. Wayyyy down on the list is Undertale. Of course I would. But not for a long-ass time, so hey. There's another (indie) game that I have on the list that is supposed to get a major update later this year, so I've recorded a whole bunch of what it looks like now so that I can do some comparisons when I get to that one, but that thing is even further down the list than Undertale is, so uh. Don't wait up for that one for a while.
Alright, so that was good to get off my chest. Don't get me wrong, I still love doing this and I love you all and I'm not planning on quitting this dumbass hobby of mine any time soon. You all must suffer with me. But it's a lot of effort at the best of times and it's nice to vent sometimes, especially if I think I'm gonna change some things. Thanks guys! :D

Season 9 Retrospective
One last ride.
If this final season proved anything, it’s that nothing matters anymore. I mean, it’s kind of been that way for the last few, but this one crystallized that. The final score (W-L-T) was 1-5-20; the sheer amount of “meh” episodes is staggering.
I wonder how this show will stand the test of time. If it had aired for just those first two seasons, it probably would have been a classic, “canceled too soon” series that maintained its small but passionate group of fans for decades to come. That’s not going to be the effect, though, if you keep a series going well after the point that it should have ended. If you continue out of momentum for six or seven years past its expiration date, you’re going to end up driving your fans away by creating an atmosphere of apathy, and indeed, that’s exactly what happened. Sure, diminishing returns are still returns, but you’re going to reach a point where the majority of people have dropped off, and that’s when not even your financial responsibilities will justify your existence anymore. It might ironically turn out that the longer the show runs, the less it will be remembered. For a recent example, look at what happened to the Transformers movies. From the fiscal side, you had what looked like a good thing going; it was just a whole bunch of people complaining that these movies sucked, which didn’t matter to you as long as you were still making money. And then the fifth film came out, and you lost $100 million. Everyone who was still continuing to give these movies a chance had officially run out of patience. (I guess continuing well past anyone giving a shit is something Hasbro has yet to learn from.)
Anyway, enough rambling. This final ranking is going to be tricky, since there were just so many Tie episodes that I really didn’t give a shit about, but #1 is going to be easy because there was only one Win in the entire season. That would be...
#1. “Student Counsel”: Once again, putting Starlight and Trixie in an episode together will basically guarantee hilarious dialogue. I don’t know why they’re not getting their own spin-off.
And it’s a pretty steep drop-off from there...
#2. “Between Dark and Dawn”: I guess seeing more of the sisterly relationship between Celestia and Luna was halfway interesting (even if it wasn’t that different from what we saw in “A Royal Problem”). The fact that they seemed to forget about the main storyline at the end was kind of dumb, though.
#3. “Twilight’s Seven”: You know what, at least it was different. A heist? Sure, why not?
#4. “The Last Laugh”: There’s something ironic about this show having an episode about how it’s bad to move from doing something creative (and that you love doing) to a mechanized, monotonous process of doing the same thing and losing the passion and interest you once had. I wonder if the writers were aware of what they were doing here.
#5. “The Summer Sun Setback”: When you get right down to it, this plot wasn’t too different from the finale. This one was just smaller and focused on a single event. Either way, at least Tirek and Cozy Glow had fun fucking with them a little.
#6. “A Horse Shoe-In”: Some of the teaching auditions were kind of fun, but this wasn’t a Starlight/Trixie episode that had a ton of humorous dialogue. Very disappointing.
#7. “The Point of No Return”: Twilight doesn’t freak out about minor stuff anymore! That’s why she’s going to rule Equestria very, very soon. If I lived in Equestria, I’d be terrified for my future.
#8. “Common Ground”: I kind of wish the moral here could have been, “It’s possible not to have the same interests as someone else and still have a healthy relationship with them,” but with this show, we’ll have to settle for, “If you look really, really hard, you’ll be able to find an aspect of their interest that you like enough to keep yourself entertained.”
#9. “Sweet and Smoky”: “If you’re useful, people will stop making fun of you.” The lesson of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, now in dragon form!
#10. “She’s All Yak”: “Tell me about it...stud!” I never got on board with the “Yona is best yak” train (I mostly just found her obnoxious), but I absolutely agree with the “Jesus Christ, please stop trying to kill her!” crowd.
#11. “The Big Mac Question”: This was probably the most in-one-ear-and-out-the-other episode this season. I don’t even remember what happened. Big Mac married Cheerilee, right?
#12. “Frenemies”: I’ll be honest, this is the episode that aired while I was at Everfree Northwest, and I wasn’t really paying attention. The only thing I remember about it is “Gregory’s Bell”. As far as I know, that was actually in the episode proper.
#13 & #14. “The Beginning of the End”: Weird that Sombra never came back. Nope, he’s totally super-duper for reals defeated this time.
#15 & #16. “The Ending of the End”: I’ve mentioned this before, but big, epic battles do absolutely nothing for me when there isn’t any substance to them. If some super-powerful being is fighting some other super-powerful being, it’s no different from a normal being fighting another normal being. Scaling it up doesn’t make it more interesting. The plan involving undermining everypony’s trust in each other was a good idea, but they forgot that every single background character in this show is dumb as a box of hammers and changes allegiance on a dime, so that was never really going to work. Plus, the fact that it was Discord the whole time was just...ugh.
#17. “Dragon Dropped”: Oh, really, Rarity? Now you care about Spike? Geez. We can’t end the show without Spike continuing to be a punching bag. (But he’s buff in the last episode, so it’s fine.)
#18. “The Last Crusade”: Given how a few of the later episodes on this list, I’m surprised it didn’t turn out that Scootaloo’s parents were secretly testing her the entire time. “We just wanted to make sure that you really meant it when you said you didn’t want to move!”
#19. “Uprooted”: After Sombra destroys the Tree of Harmony, the Student Six have to work together to...decide how best to memorialize it. I just wanted to remind everyone how moronic the premise of this episode was. That’s all.
#20. “The Last Problem”: God, this framing device sucked. Without it, this episode might have been higher on the list. As it was, it rendered the entire thing pointless.
#21. “Daring Doubt”: Wow, it turned out the villain wasn’t really the villain the whole time! Please ignore any contradictory information that may have cropped up in previous episodes.
Did you notice that there were three unrelated episodes this season whose titles began with “The Last...”? Talk about uncreative.
#22. “Going to Seed”: Children really don’t need more outlets encouraging them to believe adults who lie to them for their own gain and/or pleasure. There really needs to be a show that teaches, “There are people out there who profit from lying to you.”
#23. “2, 4, 6, Greaaat”: This and the next one on this list are the double-header of “It’s okay to trick and manipulate someone if you think it’ll teach them a lesson they need to learn!” episodes.
#24. “She Talks to Angel”: Notice in both of these cases (Rainbow Dash’s in the former, Fluttershy’s in the latter) that these were not, in fact, lessons that they needed to learn! Twilight and Zecora just got to be smug assholes and pat themselves on the back at the end. Yippee.
#25. “A Trivial Pursuit”: Remember, this was the episode immediately before Celestia told Twilight how qualified she was to run a country. This was a mere seven episodes before the finale. Character growth is super easy if you just say that it happened! Also, as a major trivia buff, this was just insulting on every level.
#26. “Growing Up Is Hard to Do”: This episode really brought back the name of my blog. After so many that I didn’t care about, it felt good to have a nice long rant again, and boy, did this one deserve it.
So...what will G5 bring? Different characters? Different stories? Different writers? At this point, who knows? Maybe I’ll be there to find out.
