Hi Brat, if you don't mind sharing, what is the role of the Prince of Wales within the Mornachy, is there a blueprint one has to follow? Charles was given a chance to carve out his own path, why is William not afforded the same chance? He has always been consistent if close friends are to be believed, about how he will approach and define his role, majority of Brits across platforms, have mentioned the only gripe they have is the lacking in communication, not to say there aren't those who have a problem with his approach, I really am curious as to what is the role of the heir, since it's always been said, only the Mornach is the star of the show, others are just supporting characters.

1. The problem is really right there within your own question: “why is William not afforded the same chance?" William most certainly HAS been allowed to to “carve out his own path.” He was supposed to start royal duties full time in 2013 after he finished his military service. Instead, he didn’t become a full-time royal until 2017 at the age of 35, after Prince Philip retired. His father had already been a full-time royal for years prior to that age because he was a full-time royal in his twenties after he finished his military service.

2. William has utter disdain for regular royal duties, which are--as @helenaaurellia detailed: Giving awards. Opening up new buildings. Unveiling plaques. Handing out prizes. Cutting ribbons. Planting trees. William doesn’t want to do normal royal duties. He believes and acts as if he’s above it. As Queen Mary said, “You are a member of the British Royal Family. We are never tired, and we all love hospitals.” Not William. It’s almost amazing that he and Kate actually showed up to open a hospital last month, when you consider what his normal engagements are these days.

3. Yes, the monarch is always the “star” of the show; however, the heir to the throne and wife/spouse to the heir are very public jobs. Working royals are unelected, public officials with life tenure. Their job is to be at public events such as opening new buildings, attending public events, etc. Prince Philip completed 22,219 solo engagements between 1952 and 2017. It’s estimated that Philip met 25% of the British public over his royal career. Queen Elizabeth and King Charles have met similar percentages of the British public over their public careers.

Charles has been doing hundreds of engagements per year since leaving the Royal Navy, aka before Diana. Charles did 585 engagements in 2011, when he was in his 60s. If you search the internets, you can find references to the number of engagements Diana did. Diana did 191 engagements in 1988 and 397 in 1991. In case you didn’t do the math, 1991 is when she had two sons under the age of 10. It is also when Diana had been a member of the BRF for ten years. It didn’t stop her from being out and about and meeting the public.

We all know William--the heir to the throne--will not reach 397 engagements this year or next year. And probably not before he becomes king if you consider how things are going. It’s pretty pitiful when you consider that William’s mother was able to clock in almost 400 engagements when she was 30, but William is unable to hit the 300-engagement mark in his 40s.

4. Doing the “bread & butter” engagements is what keeps the royals in contact with regular Britons. I remember reading either an article or book about Charles where it discussed Charles’ ability to figure out how a political issue in rural England would shake out before everything had come to a conclusion. The reason he was able to accurately predict what happened was due to his meeting people in the area over his years of doing engagements. This is the kind of thing someone who is going to be king needs to do. You have to talk to the people you represent on a regular basis, not just the ones you’ve hired to be your advisors. Or the people associated with the causes you endorse.

William has already created his own echo chamber because he doesn’t go out and meet with people enough on a regular basis. His engagement numbers are abysmal, particularly when you compare them with his father, grandfather, and grandmother’s at the same age. Because William does so few engagements per year, it’s highly unlikely the average Briton will ever meet him. (Or Kate.) Sharp contrast with QEII, Philip, or Charles because they were out and about amongst the public. It would be impossible for William to meet 10% or 25% of the British public over his lifetime because a) he doesn’t go out in public very often and b) does not visit a diverse enough establishments & groups of people.

Ultimately, when it gets down to it, the things William should be doing as heir are things he isn’t doing.

Earthshot is a nice vanity project, but it does nothing for the average Brit. It may help some projects in some communities around the world, but the UK does not benefit greatly from it. It’s not going to stop climate change. It may not even directly help any communities in the UK to a significant extent.

His devotion to his foundation & causes is nice, but his father also had causes he was devoted to while he was heir. Significantly, King Charles never dropped his regular royal duties to the exclusion that William does. Moreover, William’s attitude toward regular royal duties is nothing short of arrogant & insulting to other working royals, particularly when you consider that Prince Richard--who did not grow up planning to be a working royal--had to give up his architecture career due to the death of his brother, Prince William of Gloucester, aka the man who inspired William’s name.

William has fully embraced celebrity pr culture with the public awareness campaigns. Public awareness campaigns are what regular celebrities do for attention and public reputation management. The problem isn’t that William (& Kate) do them, it’s that it’s all they really do when you look at the numbers.

The job of a royal is “to be applauding what has been done right after the problem has already been solved, to visit all around the country, to make people feel good, to be a figurehead.”

William isn’t interested in doing that. It’s plainly obvious at this point.

Testing Elizabeth Friendship's Making Working Women's Costume

One thing about using drafting methods is that you've got to have an idea what size you are, and your general shape. So, for example, I've got a curvy figure, big hips, and a longish torso. The book goes up to a size 22, and my measurements are probably closer to a size 24.

The book mostly has roomy clothing, so the main points where that would matter are my hips, biceps, and neck.

So, I drafted up a 1900's blouse to see how well it'd work.

So, let's use my typical proportions I'd use for finished garment sizes. I'm usually looking for something like b 48, w 46, h 57 ish. Actual body sizes fluctuate, but I'm closer to a 46, 44, 53 depending on multiple factors. The book's size 22 in cm is 115, 90, 120, which comes out to 45 (ignoring an extra 1/4"), 35, 47. The bicep is 33 cm or about 13".

In actuality, I needed about 4" on the waist (added some to the side panel to make seams match and took out a tuck,) about 8" to the hips, and about 4" to the bicep (below the elbow, things were fine.) All seams had 5/8" added, all seams were done at 1/4". All the seams behaved nicely other than the side back seam matching the front side seam. I had maybe 1/2" max for two seams not meeting up and that was frequently near places with a lot of bias. I did walk my seams before cutting my test fabric.

I did my own choice of measurements for the button placket, since it's simpler to do it the way I'm familiar with folding the fabric.

For shirts, I tend to do 1/4" inch seams for texture reasons. The 3rd tuck would've pulled out another inch, and I had room for it, but I wanted some roominess in the shirt for ease reasons. I suspect if you were within the size range of the book, you might be able to draft your size and be utterly fine (just check that bicep measurement.)

So, how did I know what to put into my paper pattern? I did check my various measurements against the pattern, but had no idea if the drafted neck would be fine. A raw measurement of shirts I owned and my own neck said it was probably okay, and making something bigger is easy enough. I did add 4" to the bicep since I checked mine, added 2" inches for ease, and knew that there was no way the drafted sleeve would fit my arm. I knew from the starting measurements that I would need more for the hip area, so I measured the curve as written, and added to it. I over estimated how much I'd need, but that's utterly manageable.

When sewing up the test draft (in a non-stretchy but ancient fitted sheet,) I basted all the seams so I could check for fit before serging them to take care of raw edges. For an idea of fabric usage, one shirt + 1 potential collar, cut according to the grain lines of the pattern, took about 1' less than a twin sized fitted sheet. I've got plenty of scrap fabric if I want to cut a cuff (don't need one) or add a more complex collar on top of the collar stand.

Shirts are usually like that. On average a non poofy wrist length sleeve is about the same size as the front of your shirt just due to the strangeness in grain requirements / ease / shoulder cap needs. If you can't fit three copies of your front of your shirt on the fabric, you likely can't get your fronts, back, and sleeves on the fabric. A short sleeved shirt hitting a bit above your elbow will often need half the size of your front to fit on your fabric.

I'm pretty happy with the results.

#1: The crying child’s name is Evan. Out of the names I’ve seen most commonly, I just liked Evan the most.

#2: Fritz and Michael are two completely different people in this AU.

#3: Evans' cannon death is a common reoccurring dream of Michael’s. It began after Elizabeth’s death.

#4: William's favorite child is Elizabeth, however Mrs. Afton doesn’t play favorites.

#4: Michael has a small birthmark under his collarbone on his right shoulder that looks like a heart.

#5: I accidentally wrote Lauren and CG5 into this AU because both CG5’s FNAF songs and Lauren’s sister location sims series were the two most frequent things I watched while writing.

#6: Astrid is a reused character. I originally wrote her into a different fnaf AU of mine.

#7: Evan is the only living Afton child.

#8: Henry is such a good dad man istg. Like he parents Charlie along with being there for the Afton kids.

Why would Henry come back? I thought he wanted to die.

I almost forgot to answer this but I actually have alot to say about this

So I have some reasons as to why I belive Henry should be the one possessing Glamrock Freddtlore, character and narratively wise that I feel are much more compelling than having Micheal come back like his shitty father.

So let's start lore wise shall we? In this franchise it's shiwn time and time again that once a person dies they can possess something, mainly animatronics. Now, we only see someone be able to possess mainly 1 thing at the time, with the expectation being maybe the funtimes with their weird mish mash of souls.

Okay, of the souls that burned in the fnaf 6 fire, which one was the only one still alive? Henry Emily. In fact, Henry is THE ONLY CHARACTER in the entire franchise that was not killed until that moment, charlie, the missing kids and the Arton family have all died (hell even the likes of phone guy, the two technicians and perhaps even Jeremy perished). So, if anyone were to come back possessing an animatronic, why not the one guy who never died before? Makes more sense than Michael Afton coming back again for no reason.

Next comes a character reason. Glamrock Freddy is a cheerful, friendly and caring robot who's a tad bit naive, he's also protective, akin to a paternal figure. his personality is most likely programmed in his A.I, but if he's indeed possessed than shouldn't his personality change to whoever is possessing him? We rarely see possessed robots talk in this franchise, the ones in UCN and the AR game are not actually possessed, they show the actual mascot characters personality, The exceptions being Charlie in puppet, Elizabeth in Baby and maybe Withered Chica(?). Those exemples clearly show that the soul inhabiting the robot overrides its personality for whoever is possessing it.

Now, given all of this, wouldn't it make more sense for Henry to be the one in Glamrock Freddy? Not only is he already a father, but he clearly cares for children in general, he built robots made to protect them for crying out loud. Sure, we might only see a jaded side of him in FNAF 6, but he is far older and had experienced alot in his life. ~~(Better than the 0 personality Michael shows in the games anyway)~~

Finally we arrived at the narrative and themes. I'd like to point out that if William is always associated with rabbits (for obvious reasons), Henry should be the one associated with bears! He created the Fredbear and Freddy's franchise, he is the protective father to his daughter (a papa bear if you will), and since William only wears the Springbonnie costume, then wouldn't Henry be the one wearing Fredbear? Why, thematically speaking, would Micheal, who's way more associated with foxes and clowns, be the one in Freddy? His biggest connetion with bears comes with Helpy, but Henry was the one who presumably created him! Hell, Henry created Lefty, a black bear, to get a hild on the puppet!

Not only that, but Michael's arc should be over. He trued again and again to atone for the sins of his father in order to find the forgiveness of his brother, utilizing him any more would be overusing his character. Meanwhile Henry's sole goal was to release his daughter and send William to hell, and since William is back, shouldn't Henry be the one to come back to stop him? Henry was a nonfactor during 90% of the lore so this is the perfect opportunity to use him!

I just want the Emily's to play a bigger role in the story, after Charlie be the one caring for the missing kids, maybe Henry could help Gregory. Perhaps as a way to compensate from failing to save his daughter? Wouldn't that be neat? Nah that be too thematically interesting, time to suck the Afton family dry for the next 35 games...

001: muse a is from the past (maybe like the 1800s, but any time really) they’re just living their life, minding their own business when somehow they get sucked into the year 2022. they get hurt the second they arrive in the future, causing muse b to care for them and take them to the hospital. muse b sticks around to make sure they’re okay but no one seems to know who this person is and cannot find records of them. once muse a wakes up, they’re instantly freaked out and rambling about what this world is and questioning how they got there. when out of the hospital, muse a clings to muse b, feeling safe with them which at first annoys muse b, but they start to get used to their company. slowly they start to believe that muse a is from the past and starts to teach them about the future. they of course fall for each other, until one day they figure out a way to get muse a back to their own year, but neither of them want muse a to go.

002: give me a plot with older muses (35-40) where they’ve been happily married for years, living in their dream home, have a great life together, maybe they have kids already who are all off in college or living their own lives. now that they no longer have children living at home they want to plan to live for themselves, go on trips and do things they never got to do with being young parents. however one day they found out they are pregnant and now they have to put everything on hold again as they adjust to pregnancy and being parents to a baby again at an older age. give me all the angst and fluff that could come with this!!

003: muse a is a rich, successful person who lives in a mansion in a gated community and seems to have it all with their child. muse b is living pay check to pay check in a one bedroom apartment downtown, who has given up hope on furthering their career. muse b takes a job in muse a’s home and they hit it off but not without obstacles on the way. muse a gives muse b the motivation to work on their career and muse b shows muse a there’s more to life then work.

004: kind of based on the movie burlesque. muse a moves to a new city and gets a job in a burlesque club, where the muse b already works as a waiter. muse b helps muse a to fit in and the rest is history. or we can do it where the dancer already works at the club and the new person wants a job as a waiter.

005: both are monster/demon hunters, forced to work together and neither are happy about it. they constantly bicker and blame each other for everything, until maybe day it causes them to mess up and one gets seriously hurt (maybe even turned into a vampire or werewolf.) after that things change and they slowly the hate turns into love.

006: based on ariana grande’s into you music video. muse a’s a superstar, their life isn’t their own and they’re plunged into the limelight. they’re in a pr relationship with a jerk who’s only using muse a for their own clout but muse a’s manager won’t let them leave. muse b is muse a’s bodyguard and one of the only people who treats them like a normal person. they start up a secret relationship, always sneaking off together and falling madly in love with each other. they want to go public, but muse b knows they would lose their job and the scandal could really effect muse a’s career.

007: the typical one’s a vampire and one’s a werewolf, think underworld: rise of the lycans. muse a is vampire royalty, living the easy life in the darkness. muse b is a werewolf solider, created and trained to kill every last vampire since the war started thousands of years ago. muse b’s next target? muse a. but what happens when muse b comes face to face with muse a and imprints on them?

008: muse a is a famous star, used to living in the limelight and dealing with the media, fans and everyone knowing their business. muse b is just an ordinary person, who just so happens to be dating muse a. just a cute but angsty plot of muse b trying to come to terms with now having their life plastered over the internet and everyone having an opinion on them.

009: tw: crime, prison, drugs, alcohol. muse a has had a bad life, getting into the wrong crowd at a young age and turning to drugs and alcohol. at 18 they are arrested and put in prison for armed robbery. muse b is a do gooder, glass is half full and can never do no wrong kind of person, who volunteers at the local prison to talk to the inmates and to listen when needed. this is where muse a and muse b meet. muse b helps muse a find the motivation to change their life once they get out. now that muse a is out of prison they go to find muse b to carry on the friendship and for help as they try to get settled in a normal life away from crime. the friendship quickly turns into romance but what happens when muse a’s past comes to haunt them and old friends try to get them back into a life of crime?

010: tw: crime, suicide. muse a is a vampire gang leader, hundreds of years old, ruthless, feared far and wide within the vampire community. muse b is an innocent mortal, living their life unaware of the dark world hiding within the city they live in. however after being in the wrong place at the wrong time, muse b is suddenly caught up in the vampire world. muse a saves muse b unexpectedly, randomly feeling protective of the mortal. the vampire who once only saw humans as food is suddenly in love with this mortal. muse b is now the most protected mortal within the city, going after them would be suicide. but can muse b live in such a brutal world of not only crime but also with a constant target over their head for who they are dating.

Synopsis:

Anne’s visit with Mrs. Smith did keep her away while Mister Elliot was visiting Camden Place. But he came by again in the evening, and tried (and failed) to charm her. However, Anne is relieved to find out that he was leaving Bath on business for two days.

Anne’s plan of telling Lady Russell all about the true motives and character of Mister Elliot, the next day, is put on hold by the surprise arrival of Captain and Mrs. Harville (for business in Bath), Mrs. Musgrove and Henrietta (to visit friends, and make preparation for Louisa’s and Henrietta’s weddings), and Charles and Mary Musgrove (Because Charles is bored, and Mary can’t stand to be alone)

While they all (including Captain Wentworth, there to visit the Harvilles) are visiting at the Inn, Mary sees Mister Elliot through the window, meeting with Mrs. Clay, even though he was supposed to have left town three hours earlier. And Anne is very aware of Captain Wentworth being aware of Mister Elliot, and she can’t figure out if he is still jealous and resentful over what happened at the concert.

And then, just as they are about to leave, Sir Walter and Elizabeth come in with invitations to an evening party the next night. And Elizabeth very pointedly and flirtatiously hands an invitation to Captain Wentworth.

On returning home, Anne confronts Mrs. Clay about being seen with Mister Elliot. And Mrs Clay smoothly (though obviously) lies.

Quotes that Stood Out:

Anne went home to think over all that she had heard. In one point, her feelings were relieved by this knowledge of Mr Elliot. There was no longer anything of tenderness due to him. [... ...] In every other respect, in looking around her, or penetrating forward, she saw more to distrust and to apprehend. She was concerned for the disappointment and pain Lady Russell would be feeling; for the mortifications which must be hanging over her father and sister, and had all the distress of foreseeing many evils, without knowing how to avert any one of them.

This, right here, is Anne’s character in a nutshell: always looking at the world through gaps in the churning gears of her mind. And she’s still grounding her actions in duties to others.

However, it also shows her growth as a character. And now, she is looking outward, and forward to the future.

Her plan of sitting with Lady Russell must give way for the present. They all three called in Rivers Street for a couple of minutes; but Anne convinced herself that a day’s delay of the intended communication could be of no consequence, and hastened forward to the White Hart, to see again the friends and companions of the last autumn, with an eagerness of good-will which many associations contributed to form.

But Anne is still the same in that she finds perfectly reasonable reasons to be Somewhere Else™ whenever an emotionally difficult/unpleasant thing is in front of her (this is also a signal that she is growing away from Lady Russell -- her surrogate mother, and coming into her own).

Captain Wentworth left his seat, and walked to the fire-place; probably for the sake of walking away from it soon afterwards, and taking a station, with less bare-faced design, by Anne.

I say this with 100% sincerity, and 0% sarcasm: Smooth, Captain, smooth.

After waiting a few moments he said, and as if it were the result of immediate feeling, “It is a period, indeed! Eight years and a half is a period.”

Is this the first time he’s acknowledged their past relationship out loud, with words? I think it might be.

Their preparations, however, were stopped short. Alarming sounds were heard; other visitors approached, and the door was thrown open for Sir Walter and Miss Elliot, whose entrance seemed to give a general chill. Anne felt an instant oppression, and wherever she looked saw symptoms of the same. The comfort, the freedom, the gaiety of the room was over, hushed into cold composure, determined silence, or insipid talk, to meet the heartless elegance of her father and sister. How mortifying to feel that it was so!

This is just such a beautiful description of a sudden shift in mood, and how some people just suck all light and air out of the room. “Heartless elegance” -- *chef’s kiss.*

Savannah grew up in Georgia and was best friends with Dean Walker. The two were inseparable growing up and he was her protector from all the people in her life who tried to hurt her, like her father and the various boys she dated over the years. When she was twenty one, Savannah started dating Eric, her old ex-boyfriend from high school who used to put his hands on her. Either way, she married him when she was twenty seven and resigned herself to a life just like the one she grew up in. Because of her relationship with Eric, Savannah never went to school, she never pursued a higher education. She worked dead end jobs and relied completely on her husband for everything. The longer they were married the worse things got, especially when she failed to get pregnant and disappointed him over and over. She paid for those disappointments greatly.

Description: Kara was born in Appalachia to an upper class family where she was the only child. Her father was a former army ranger turned lawyer while her mother was the sheriff of her county. Kara always had a bit of an adventurous streak to her as she would hike in the mountains looking for cryptids but came up with nothing and grew bored of life. She was an average at best student compared to her successful twin sister, Holly, who she held dear. Kara wanted more out of life and decided to join the army to have more thrills.

But what she got was more death and destruction. Especially during the Annexation Of Canada. She later participated in the Sino-American War where she fought alongside Elizabeth Taggerdy who she considered a mentor and somewhat of a mother figure. An injury caused her to return home where she stayed in the house for days looking at the ceiling. Kara served exceptionally well during the war to the point she was nearly considered for Taggerdy’s Thunder.

Due to her family ties and service, Kara was put on the list for Vault 76. When the bombs were dropped, Kara tried to contact her sister and Elizabeth Taggerdy but couldn’t as power lines were being destroyed left and right. With no choice, Kara went into Vault 76 much to her disdain. She didn’t sleep on her first day as she kept hearing the all too familiar sounds of the bombs going off…and finally silence.

Life in the vault started off rough for Kara as she barely knew anyone. But she made a friend with a Vault 76 resident named Jamie Wantanabe and his sister, Dana Wantanabe. She soon began dating Dana and life started to ease up a little for her. Still, the stories she’s been hearing from the overseer made her prepare for the worst to happen. Soon it was time for the vault to open and Kara was one of the residents who ventured out into the wasteland…and discovered the horrible truth of what happened to Elizabeth Taggerdy.

Kara was one of many residents that followed the overseer’s orders and her journey led her to Fort Defiance where she learned of the origins of the Brotherhood Of Steel. Because of this, Kara signed up for the Brotherhood to make a real difference and hoping she would find her mentor. But as she saw more dead members, she expected the worst…and she got it. Kara found Elizabeth Taggerdy dead after her attempts to stop the Scorch Beast as an enraged Kara slaughtered the monster.

A distraught Kara later buried Elizabeth and the rest of the unit in Fort Defiance. There she would try to recruit new members of the Appalachian Brotherhood Of Steel while waiting for any members to arrive. Her hopes were confirmed when the expedition team arrived.

Personality: Kara is more of a go with a flow kind of woman who is somewhat carefree. She craved for adventure most of the time and had an interest in cryptozoology as a child. This led to her being an adrenaline junkie as a teenager as she would get in trouble most of the time with adults. When she graduated high school, she joined the army to get away from her boring life. Till this day, she regrets that decision…

War changed Kara as it warped her view on humanity and the government. But she did find some solace with Elizabeth Taggerdy who she regarded as a mentor and served under. The two struck a friendship as they would work together to survive the war. Returning home felt off to Kara as she just wanted to rest most of the time and try to take things in but her family kept wanting her to find a high paying job fast. Kara felt dead returning home and she knew it, everything she tried to do to keep that feeling away didn’t work but she tried most of the time.

It wasn’t until the bombs fell was when she felt alive again for just a split moment or hours but in a twisted way. She soon went back to her dead inside personality when it all stopped and there was nothing but silence. But having a girlfriend changed her, it made her feel alive in a good way and while the two broke up, she felt better.

Like many vault 76 residents, Kara looked up to the overseer who she saw as a great leader. She considered her the best woman to lead the vault and would gladly follow her to Hell. She understood her orders and was among the other vault 76 residents to try and pacify any division. Because of that, she became one of the recent initiates of the Appalachian Brotherhood Of Steel.

She has mixed opinions on Roger Maxson as a whole. Kara does respect and admire him for his attempts to bring back order and the Brotherhood’s goals but the fact he indirectly caused Elizabeth Taggerdy’s death made her not forgive him for that. She believes in the cause but not the leader as a whole.

Kara also deeply blamed herself for not leaving the vault and assist Taggerdy. She often wondered if things would’ve been different if she joined her. Everyday the thought haunts her when she tries to sleep or wander in the day.

All in all, Kara was a person who wanted chaos and chaos came to her-she relented and wants nothing more than order.

10 Books to read this Autumn & Halloween🍁🍂🍁

1. Dracula by Bram Stoker

This start of beautiful season off with something classic and a little scary.

The name of Dracula brings to mind visions of vampires, stakes, garlic, and crucifixes. Yet, when you read the novel, it becomes self-evident how twisted modern vampire fiction now is. The vampires in this classic story are not meant to inhabit the roles of heroes. Instead you go back a few hundred years when men and women believed truly that the vampire was a real immortal, cursed to quench his undying thirst with a living mortal’s blood. The very idea of a blood drinker should, therefore, inspire the image of a villain and that is what the titular character of this novel is. A villan you can’t help but keep reading about.

2. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

Another story that is perfect if you want something that will keep you up at night like it did for me when I read it last year.

There is scarcely any comfort to be found in this book, only an ancient, arcane horror. Ten people receive a mystery letter from someone they don't know that indicates they should come to a remote island. Why would they go????? After arriving, they try to figure out the connection between all of them while waiting for their mysterious host. After coming across a cute little poem about how ten little indians die, they decide they will wait it out until the next morning when the ferry comes back to take them home. But it will never come! Each guest suddenly dies matching the line from a poem. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

3. THE BONE WITCH BY RIN CHUPECO

A story about a young witch just fits so well with this season, but this story is not about a teenage witch =just flying around on a broom. No it’s far darker than that. When Tea accidentally resurrects her brother from the dead, she learns she is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy means that she’s a bone witch, a title that makes her feared and ostracized by her community. But Tea finds solace and guidance with an older, wiser bone witch, who takes Tea and her brother to another land for training.In her new home, Tea puts all her energy into becoming an asha—one who can wield elemental magic. But dark forces are approaching quickly, and in the face of danger, Tea will have to overcome her obstacles…and make a powerful choice.

A suspenseful and eerie mystery told via dual timelines all surrounding a rundown roadside motel and the secrets lurking that captivated a woman so much that she went missing in the 1980’s and now have caught the attention of her niece 35 years later. If you love a good mystery mixed with timeline jumping this a perfect one for you.

This is the penultimate rewatch post that I’ll ever make of this show. Can you feel the smurfing nostagia poking already?

I do not care at all about Vance's life, and people do whatever they want, but last ep Vance said that his wife was on IVF stuff and now it’s never mentioned again, and they have an 11-or-something year old? Like, I know that these are technically not incompatible projects, but it feels like the writers didn't even re-read themselves from one ep to another. UNLESS it's supposed to imply that Vance lied to Dean about the IVF to justify his wife bullying him, in which case I take it back, this is an hilarious writing choice.

Wait, Vance has a corporate job ? In addition to teaching boyscouts, selling moisturizer, biking and having MRA meetings?? Is there anything that this guy does NOT do?

Hold on. Dean and Stan have known each other for 30 years??? While it's only been 26 for Beth and Ruby since the show established that season 1 to 3 happened in the span of a year?? So what, I'm supposed to understand that Ruby met Stan through Dean once he started dating Beth? This is getting ridiculous.

Funny that Beth hates red while it's literally the only colour Rio fucked her in tbh

Honestly this season is about the evolution of Dave, from rather boring in-the-closet boss to straw-slurping quirky and broke ambulant disaster. I'd watch a show based off his character, really.

Can relate with Stan, no-one wants to have dinner with the Bolands, they're terrible!

Very disappointed that when Kevin explains how to manipulate people into dating you to Annie she jumps to doing the same with Nick's assistant instead of realizing that Kevin’s been doing it to her.

Am I the only one who'd run after a stranger I’m having a date with if they suddenly left with my jacket on??????

OMG Nick has a paper clips magnet shaped as a giant fly?? I TOLD YOU he's got an insect fetish lol

Honestly this Vance-knows-everything-and-pops-in-the-backseat twist is a wasted opportunity for the show to have Beth murder him and finally achieve her season 2 goal.

That being said, the fact that Vance repeatedly tries to get out and struggles with the children safety means that RIO DID TOO and the fact that this scene exists somewhere in implied canon fills me with joy

Wait wait wait, how did Nick figure it was Annie on the picture? I thought Rio just laughed at him but didn't reveal who it was, right? I could definitely see him doing that just to rub it in Nick’s face though, but that would be so fucking stupid and dangerous for Beth it just makes no sense.

I just LOVE that Beth downgraded from “Elizabeth” to “Beth” in Nick's mouth ever since he found out she betrayed him. It's like the antithesis of Rio's way of calling her and adore that

The way the emotional music abruptly stops when Dean pulls Stan into a hug out of nowhere is genuinely comedic

Why does it seem like Beth always has a mountain of dirty dishes in the sink? With four kids, they never thought it could be useful to buy a dishwasher?

World agrees to negotiate a global ‘pandemic treaty’ to fight the next outbreak (Washington Post) Less than a week after the new omicron variant of the coronavirus was reported to the World Health Organization, global leaders on Wednesday agreed to start negotiations to create an international agreement to prevent and deal with future pandemics—which some have dubbed a “pandemic treaty.” The special session of the World Health Assembly, only the second ever held by the WHO’s governing body, pledged by consensus to begin work on an agreement, amid a round of applause, after three days of talks. However, agreeing to agree is a slow process, and any final treaty could take years and is likely to come well after the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

More Americans living alone as milestones slip later in life (The Hill) More than a quarter of American households are made up of people living alone as the ranks of senior citizens swell and younger Americans continue to delay life milestones that previous generations reached earlier in life. There were 37 million one-person households in the United States in 2021, the U.S. Census Bureau reported this week, representing 28 percent of all households across the country and 15 percent of the overall population. Just half of American adults, 50 percent, are living with a spouse, down from 52 percent a decade ago. At the same time, the share of Americans living with an unmarried partner is rising—today, 8 percent of Americans over the age of 18 live with a partner to whom they are not wedded. Those two figures continue a long-term trend in which Americans delay marriage to later in life. When the Census Bureau first analyzed marriage data in 1947, the median man got married at 23.7 years old, and the median woman wed for the first time at age 20.5. Today, the median age for a man when he first gets married is 30.4 years old, while the median woman is 28.6 years old.

Argentina recorded more than 250 femicides in 2020, one every 35 hours (Washington Post) Ursula Bahillo could still be alive. The 18-year-old did everything she was supposed to. She filed complaints for gender violence against her ex-boyfriend, a police officer. She pleaded for help on social media. But on Feb. 8 she was stabbed at least 15 times. Her ex-boyfriend, Matías Martínez, was arrested at the scene several miles outside the town of Rojas in the Argentine Pampas and charged with femicide (aggravated homicide). In the first eight months of 2021, the advocacy group Mumalá registered at least 118 femicides. Volcanic lava threatens more homes on La Palma (Washington Post) A fresh river of lava from the volcano on Spain’s La Palma island threatened Wednesday to engulf a parish church that has so far survived the eruption that shows no signs of relenting after 10 weeks. Molten rock from the Sept. 19 eruption on La Palma, part of Spain’s Canary Islands archipelago, has consumed over 1,500 buildings and covered over 1,130 hectares (2,800 acres) including banana farms, the island’s main source of revenue along with tourism. The volcano is going strong and seismic activity in the area has increased in recent days. Spain’s National Geographic Institute registered 341 earthquakes over the past 24 hours. Thousands of residents have been displaced by the eruption, which has not claimed any lives on the westernmost member of the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa.

Russia to unveil proposals for new European security pact soon—Lavrov (Reuters) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that Moscow would soon put forward proposals for a new European security pact that he said he hoped would stop NATO from expanding further east. In a speech to the OSCE in Stockholm, Lavrov said that Europe was returning to what he called the nightmare of military confrontation and said he hoped that Russia’s proposals would be carefully considered. Lavrov said that Western arms shipments to Ukraine were encouraging Kyiv to think it could resolve its territorial problems by force, something it has denied, and that Moscow feared that intermediate-range U.S. missiles could appear in Europe.

Philippines activists push new petition seeking Marcos election ban (Reuters) Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the early frontrunner for the Philippines presidency, was hit by another formal complaint on Thursday, as longtime opponents of his powerful family pile pressure on authorities to disqualify him from elections next year. The activists’ petition is part of a flurry of complaints designed to sideline Marcos, a career politician and son and namesake of the notorious dictator who was driven from power by a 1986 people’s uprising. It was among at least six lodged with election authorities and is centred on his 1995 conviction for failing to pay income tax or file tax returns while in public office from 1982 to 1985, which carries a lifetime election ban.

Lebanese businesses pay steep price for standoff with Saudis (AP) A Lebanese DJ was days away from moving to Riyadh to play for a month in one of the newest entertainment centers in Saudi Arabia’s capital when a brief, polite Whatsapp message informed her that the contract won’t go through. The head of a Beirut-based communications agency had been negotiating to revive a two-year-old contract derailed by the pandemic for hundreds of thousands of dollars. After two days of silence her Saudi client, in an apologetic call, said now is not the time. These are some of the victims of Saudi Arabia’s furious backlash against Lebanon in October after a Lebanese minister criticized its war against Iran-backed rebels in Yemen. At the root of the crisis is a years-old regional rivalry with Iran, and Saudi unease about the increasing clout of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Lebanon is caught in the middle. In response to the minister’s comments, Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador and banned Lebanese imports ranging from chocolate to chemical products, which used to bring in about $240 million a year.

Report: Israel failed to probe shootings at Gaza protests (AP) Rights groups said Thursday that Israel failed to investigate shootings that killed more than 200 Palestinians and wounded thousands at violent protests along the Gaza frontier in recent years, strengthening the case for the International Criminal Court to intervene. The Israeli military rejected the findings, saying the “mass riots” organized by Gaza’s militant Hamas rulers were aimed at providing cover for cross-border attacks. The military said alleged abuses were thoroughly investigated, with soldiers held accountable. Israeli fire killed at least 215 Palestinians, most of them unarmed, including 47 people under the age of 18 and two women, according to Gaza’s Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights. Hundreds of others were seriously wounded in the demonstrations, which wound down in late 2019. Many were far from the border fence when they were shot. A report released Thursday by the Israeli rights group B’Tselem and the Gaza-based Palestinian Center for Human Rights said the military failed to investigate orders issued by senior commanders and took virtually no action against any soldiers.

Libyans hope election will end a decade of strife but fear it will tear the country apart again (Washington Post) Ten years ago, Khaled Mami cheered the fall of Moammar Gaddafi’s regime, hoping it would usher in a new period of prosperity. Instead, Libya was consumed by civil strife. By the time a cease-fire was signed last year, an economic crisis had devastated Mami’s clothing business, and one of his young sons was dead—killed in a mortar attack on their home just south of the capital, Tripoli. Now, as Libya prepares to hold its first-ever presidential election this month, Mami, 48, is among the many Libyans who fear that the contest may push the country back into turmoil. Among the 98 people who have registered to run are two of the most divisive figures in recent Libyan history: Gaddafi’s son, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity, and Khalifa Hifter, a warlord based in eastern Libya who carried out a year-long siege of the capital. Interim prime minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, who had previously pledged not to enter the race, has also registered to run. UN report: Pandemic set to cost global tourism $2 trillion in 2021 (Axios) A new United Nations report warns that global tourism will see only modest revenue gains in 2021 after last year’s historic losses amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The UNWTO estimates 2021 global tourism revenue will amount to $1.9 trillion—a modest bump from 2020’s low of $1.6 trillion. Before the pandemic, 2019’s global tourism revenue clocked in at $3.5 trillion, or 4% of world GPD. The UN finds the drop in tourism is responsible for 70% of the total drop in world GPD last year. In all, the pandemic will likely cost the global tourism sector $2 trillion in lost revenue in 2021, according to the UNWTO.

UN projects soaring humanitarian needs in world in 2022 (AP) The United Nations is predicting that a record 274 million people—who together would amount to the world’s fourth most-populous country—will require emergency humanitarian aid next year in countries like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Syria and Yemen which face a raft of challenges including war, insecurity, hunger, climate change and the coronavirus pandemic. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in its annual overview of future needs, is projecting a 17% jump in the number of people who will need urgent assistance in 2022, and is appealing to donors to provide a record $41 billion to help 183 million people who are the most in need.

The British Bulldog (Foreign Policy) Legendary former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill would have turned 146 this week, and given his love of whisky and brandy, he would have toasted it in style. Here's a quick look at Churchill's drinking life during the days of World War II. Don't try this at home, kids. At breakfast, Churchill had a glass of white wine, a substitute for tea, since only canned milk was available during the war. Churchill then nursed a weak scotch and soda most of the day. For lunch, he'd go between port, Pol Roger champagne, a Hine brandy or two from the 19th century, and possibly a beer. The war didn't break Churchill's prodigious napping routine: he insisted on an hour-long nap almost every day. After that, he'd drink a whiskey, usually a Johnny Walker Red Label. At dinner, champagne would flow, while Churchill had a brandy or two. Before bed, he'd have another port or two, and a final weak whiskey in his study.

Fancy Folk

Earlier this week I received my Pfizer booster shot. My previous vaccine was Johnson & Johnson and I hadn’t had any side effects, but I wasn’t sure if my body would react the same to this one. Most people I know have had a few hours of various symptoms the following day and that’s pretty much all I had - a bit of a headache and a feeling of being bone tired. It didn’t last long and the added protection is well worth it. While I was feeling like a sloth and hanging out on the couch, I decided to do a little exploring on the ol’ family tree. My maternal side is pretty much traced back to the 1500′s and my roots run deep in Germany and Denmark. My paternal side was more of a mystery. I’d recently been able to find what I believe to be the first McGlaughn to arrive in America from Scotland and even the area in Scotland that my ancestors called home. Because of the various spellings of McGlaughn, McGlauhn, McGlaun, McGlon, Maglon, etc it was a chore but an interesting one. This time I started with my dad’s mother, Jessie Belle Lett and began tracing that line. My hat is off to the folks who kept such meticulous records and made my job so easy. First, I should share the breakdown of my DNA that Ancestry.com provided thanks to a swab of my saliva. There were a couple of surprises.

Scotland made sense, as did Germanic Europe. England fit the bill as well as both sides showed a number of English brides. Sweden, Wales, and Norway were a bit more of a puzzle. Not anymore! After successfully jumping back through generation after generation....behold my 11th great-grandmother.

Elin Ulfsdotter Snakenborg, Marchioness of Northampton, also known as Helena, and Helena the Red for her red hair. Born 1548 - died 10 April 1635 at the age of 86. She was a Swedish-born noblewoman, Maid of Honour of Queen Elizabeth I of England, and Marchioness of Northampton by her marriage to William Parr, 1st Marquess of Northampton. What a tale she had! Born to a Swedish lord and a royal daughter of Norway, she was sent from Sweden in a retinue of young noblewomen to try to convince Elizabeth I to marry a Swedish prince. She married William Parr, a member of the greeting party when she came ashore in Dover. Helen was sixteen or seventeen and he was 35 years older. Yuck. Parr was also the brother of Catherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII. He died five months after they were married and they had no children. Helen was so well-liked by Elizabeth that she became her BFF, or her Maid of Honour. She had her own set of rooms at Hampton Court Palace (I’ve been there!!) and partied with the queen. Eventually she met Sir Thomas Gorges (last name later changed to George), cousin of Ann Boleyn and with a family history in Wales. They fell in love and, at first, Elizabeth I was happy about the pairing - but when Thomas decided to marry Helen, the queen put her foot down. Because Helen was nobility and Thomas a mere gentleman she refused to allow the marriage. The two eloped, and when Elizabeth found out she banished Helen from court and threw Thomas in the Tower of London. In time, the queen accepted the union and both were restored to their positions. Helen and Thomas went on to have eight children and lived at Longford Castle and the queen was godmother to her daughter Brigetta, who gave birth to a daughter named Elizabeth, who had a son named Alexander, who had a daughter named Susanna, who had a son named John, who had a daughter named Harriet, who had a daughter name Elizabeth, who had a son named James, who had a daughter named Annie, who had a son named William, who fathered my grandmother Jessie. And here we are. I’ve found a surprising number of illustrious, historical figures on this branch of my family tree and I couldn’t be more shocked. I never heard a word of any of this, not that my paternal grandmother had much to say, especially to kids. She was a farm wife in nowhere Alabama and spent her later years insisting that she was related to the guy who invented Dr. Pepper. Note: I did not find Charles Alderton of Dr. Pepper fame anywhere in our lineage. To sum it all up, this explains the Swedish and Norwegian in my DNA as well as my yearning to wear a tiara. I’m not the type who thinks that ancestors whether they’re kings or outlaws have much to do with who we are today, but I do love unraveling the history and discovering whose blood runs through my veins. I found a French branch, the above mentioned John married Mary Susannah Jouett (mother of Harriett) whose line leads all over France. I’m basically a gumbo of Europe - Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and France, all present and accounted for just like my swipe of spit said.

I wonder which one of my ancestors carried the knucklehead gene because that one is strong. I passed it on to my children and my grandchild is displaying signs of being a carrier as well. I’d also like to know who to blame for my hair. There are curls on both the maternal and paternal side, so I was probably doomed centuries back. The mister just came home from his daily walk and is expecting dinner. I think it’s time for me to sit him down and explain that I’m from the noble class and I’m not supposed to toil over meals and laundry. I’m supposed to have staff. Bet that’ll go over real well. Maybe I’ll just start wearing a crown while I cook. Dress for the job you want, right? Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Lady Nancy
