if you're subscribed to the washington post, it's time to cancel your subscription
as if their coverage of the genocide in gaza wasn't bad enough, this is now the kind of vile racist shit they're apparently okay with publishing in their editorial cartoons
Tumblr media
and if you're unfamiliar with the artist, michael ramirez, here are some of the cartoons he's made for other publications:
(putting them under a read more because there are so many of them and they're all disgustingly racist and/or islamophobic)

it feels so insane to have to say this but islamophobia is a racist belief that does not protect you in any way. islamophobia has only the capability to perpetuate violence. you sacrifice your own humanity in the act of dehumanizing others. palestinians deserve freedom from state violence and liberation from this decades-long occupation, palestinians deserve resistance, palestinians deserve to worship and to dream and to live and live in peace. no amount of duplicitous fearmongering can change the truth of that

Richard Dawkins' meltdown in the early 2010s was so prophetic for what would happen to *gestures at every old British celebrity* in the past few years. Within just a few years he went from quietly respected to giving interviews where he ranks which types of rape are the worst, calling a Muslim teen wrongfully arrested for playing with a clock a "ISIS child soldier", and repeatedly trying to shut down feminists by using Muslim women as a blunt object to say they don't have it so bad so stop complaining, all while doing a lot of "I don't believe [bad thing], I'm just asking questions, y'know" on the side
Confirming all that I learned that he promoted a conference run by evangelical Christian Nationalists in 2019 since, while he "didn't support their religious beliefs", he did support their speaker's rants about "post-modernism", which. That checks out tbh

We all saw this coming but the western empire is dissolving fully into early 2000s levels of hysterical islamophobia. I told someone my (obviously ethnic) name and she asked me if I immigrated here because of Hezbollah. Ma'am we just met. Also I was born here.

Yet I would not be truthful if I attributed my embrace of Christianity solely to the realisation that atheism is too weak and divisive a doctrine to fortify us against our menacing foes. I have also turned to Christianity because I ultimately found life without any spiritual solace unendurable — indeed very nearly self-destructive. Atheism failed to answer a simple question: what is the meaning and purpose of life?
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a friend of Richard Dawkins, recently stated that she has converted to Christianity. In this article, she explains some of her reasons.

also lol horrifically he told me that when we lived in hong kong and he was on our synagogue’s volunteer security team, they shipped the team to israel to train with their bomb squad and in hand to hand. Brother. To deal with the virulent antisemitism of. East asia? Probably the least antisemitic place on the planet lmao? somehow this was evidence of the constant threat we faced(?). the only anecdote he could pull was that at an event once they stopped two arab guys on a motorcycle and asked to see their id (“it wasnt because they were arab” ok lol) and one of them had a fake id. For reference hong kong has a large population of undocumented refugees. and they didnt even do anything they got stopped and left. Ohhh no the horrible potential violence of a random brown guy with a fake id

looking at the news today and god. I’m so stunned by everything. israel bombed a hospital in gaza, the us is trying to deflect the blame, a synagogue in berlin was bombed, a young muslim boy was murdered in illinois, a sikh man was assaulted in a hate crime, scholastic is bowing to book censorship against lgbt people and poc, russia is pulling out of a nuclear deal- I’d say “why is the world like this,” but I have some idea, at least, about why the world is like this. how is this the time we live in. how is this the present day. how can people be so so awful. don’t we all just want to live
here to talk if anyone needs to. I’m really scared but I want to help

Hey I absolutely do not begrudge you wanting to warn people of rising transphobia in Canada, but I would like to point out that Eventbrite link has a very small number of followers. The event for all groups (not just the Eventbrite listing) on Facebook only has about 300 'interested' parties, which hardly translates into actual movement, let alone across the entire nation. It comes off kind of fear-mongery. A lot of the primary groups involved are Muslim orgs for whatever reason, some of which look kind of suspect (read: troll groups) so I'd also maybe caution people not to let it fuel any racist sentiment. It is painful that even 300 people would hold anti-trans sentiments, but I'm not sure that translates to people needing to fear getting attacked on the street that day. (Not moreso than being trans in public on any day, obviously...) I worry that a bunch of Tumblr folks are getting freaked out over some kind of organized attack that's probably going to turn out to be a bunch of people on Facebook lying for clout amongst their own ignorant little groups. It's fine to post about, but I would include some perspective so people aren't adding unneeded stress and fear to their lives. (I am a trans person living in an incredibly incredibly hostile southern state, so... not my first rodeo on the bullshit FB scare.)
hey anon thanks for the concern - the Eventbrite page was pointed out to me by someone who reblogged my initial post, however that's just one avenue of organization. they also have a Facebook page with about 4000 followers, a Facebook group with 6.7k members, a small Twitter account, and the event is also being circulated on twitter by far right Canadian figures with larger followings.
as a transgender Canadian from Alberta, I have been watching what has been happening in Canada already in terms of things like protesting drag storytimes and the freedom convoy and unfortunately based on what I've seen I won't be surprised if there's a decent turnout on their protest date. this is not coming out of nowhere, this sentiment has been building in Canada for the past few years too and seems to get swept under the rug as Canada is painted as some perfect liberal haven that it isn't. I think that this event is also coming on the heels of policies being passed in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick (I believe) that require schools to inform parents if their children use different names/pronouns, which has likely emboldened people with these transphobic beliefs
in regards to the group organizing the Eventbrite page, I believe the Alberta Muslim Social Organization is a legitimate Muslim group unfortunately, and the website for the so called March for children claims to unite all religious groups under one (transphobic) cause - I think that it is simply this group that has arranged the Eventbrite page for the protest in Calgary, as they are a Calgary-based group, and provided information for some other locations that are also organizing a protest. I will clarify this in another reblog though because I don't want people assuming that this is a movement being organised specifically by Muslim Canadian when it isn't.

People will just say anything these days. I’m sitting eating chicken salad and reading a book at the car shop and a lady is like ‘I had tuna salad the other day but that chicken salad looks better’ then proceeds to ask why I’m wearing a mask and I tell her I’d rather not get sick so I’m being safe, and she’s chill and smiling so I’m like hey maybe I’ll make a friend out in the wild today! And then she starts talking about the Muslim problem in Europe.

Neighbors Lady
This one is lengthy so it's going under a readmore.
tl;dr: we had a call from a woman convinced that her Palestinian neighbors have been attacking and threatening her on the basis of being Jewish, though her family had allegedly been hiding their Jewish identity from her all her life.
i know i put cws in the tags but in light of *gestures vaguely* everything I figured I'd reiterate that this one has a content warning for anti-Palestinian sentiment and general paranoia.
Call from a woman whose voice made her sound like a young adult in her 20s or 30s. She sounded a little frazzled and opened by saying she has a “situation” and isn’t sure what to do. First, she told me her family has been lying to her about her Jewish heritage, and that she recently found out her Jewish status by checking her family tree. This in itself isn’t uncommon, but her next topic was where things started to go a little off the rails: she said that her Palestinian neighbors have been violently harassing her and her family on the basis of their being Jewish.
She described a few of the things her neighbors have allegedly done: breaking into her family’s house and stealing things, trashing their belongings, cyberstalking (seeming to time their harassment with her trying to reach out for help online, things like that). She alleged that they shot chemical weapons into her bedroom and even arranged for a rocket to drop on her neighborhood. (I asked where she lived and she answered with the name of a neighborhood not far from here; I think we would have heard something). She also said that she’s taken it to the police, but they haven’t been doing anything to alleviate the situation.
I asked how long her parents had lived in the house – trying to see if they pre-dated the neighbors – and she said her family had lived there 20 years, but wasn’t sure how long the neighbors had lived there. However, when I asked later whether moving was an option, she said her family had moved six times to try to get away from the neighbors, only for the neighbors to follow them.
When I asked if she could figure out how the neighbors had known about their Jewish status when her parents had been hiding it, she told me she wasn’t sure how they knew either. She also detailed that her discovery of her heritage involved learning that her family was descended from the biblical Jacob, “right there” on her family tree, but didn’t point to any more recent Jewish relatives when prompted.
I told her that I wasn’t sure what we would be able to do to help her, but I asked whether she had tried contacting our local Jewish crisis help center. She told me she did try contacting them, but they were “so scared they couldn’t wait to get me off the phone.” It left me wondering whether she was lying about calling them, or if she really did call and just misinterpreted their response.
Finally, she communicated to me that she wants to become more active in the Jewish community and “set down roots” since she’d been moving so much. She believes it will help in some way—she mentioned her belief that her neighbors have been able to get away with so much because the caller herself hasn’t been speaking to a rabbi or involved Jewishly. She wants to learn more about Judaism and make friends in the community, possibly by volunteering. She mentioned wanting to come to services to see what they’re like.
She had mentioned posting about her situation on facebook and provided her full legal name during our call, so after we got off the phone I decided to search for her. I found her fairly quickly – she is actually middle aged, and all of her posts are publicly visible. Most of the posts were rambling about the damage “the neighbors” are doing to her, her home, and her family, but none of her recent posts mentioned Judaism or identified the neighbors as Palestinians. (Some of them had a very devout Christian bent, though). It made me wonder whether she was merely calling her imaginary neighbors "Palestinians" in an attempt to gain sympathy and support from a Jewish organization when she was very much not Jewish herself.
This person had called on 12/28. About a month later (1/31) she buzzed at the front door asking to speak to a rabbi or secretary. I diverted her to my boss, who went out to speak with her. He successfully redirected her to our local Jewish crisis help center.

Where can I find Free Palestine protests and Ceasefire protests?
A super international and continually updated list of actions can be found at Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network's:
Tumblr media
Calendar of Resistance for Palestine 2024
They list events by date, then alphabetically by country, then by city - and it's common for them to have dozens of actions listed for a single date, especially on the weekends.
The United States especially often has 40+ events on a single day, especially on the weekends.
Events are posted with links to the event info posted by whoever's hosting the vast majority of the time.
Look blow the read-more for a list of many of the countries that have been on this protest calendar, in alphabetical order, since I know so many websites/lists of actions are country-specific
*Obviously this isn't the only good source of listings for protest events - there are many others. This is by far the biggest/most international roundup I've found, though, so I started with this. If you know another good place for finding ceasefire protests/events, please feel free to add it in the notes, bc I'm planning to put a bigger roundup together once I find enough other sites
Countries that Samidoun has listed/does list protests for include (in alphabetical order):
North America:
United States
Canada
Mexico
Puerto Rico (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Hawai'i (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Europe:
Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Denmark
England
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Romania
Scotland
Serbia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Wales
SWANA Region (Southwest Asia/North Africa)*:
Bahrain
Iraq
Jordan
Kuwait
Lebanon
Palestine
Tunisia
Turkiye (Turkey)
*Samidoun notes that "We know that these events are mainly international and that the Arab people are marching everywhere for Palestine – we will be honored to add more Arab events whenever we are informed!"
Asia:
Bangladesh
India
Indonesia
Japan
Malaysia
Maldives
Pakistan
South Korea
Africa:
Kenya
Mauritius
Nigeria
South Africa
Tanzania
Tunisia
*Duplicating North African countries (well, Tunisia) here from the SWANA list btw

re lrb a huge portion of the zionist propaganda i have personally seen posted like on facebook and insta and stuff is concentrated very specifically on denying the concept of the innocent palestinian civilian. mostly just trying to manufacturing consent for the death of children. videos will be like “look at these palestinian 6 year olds saying how much they hate jews the entire population has been sadly brainwashed irreparably nothing to be done.” or that Fucking golda meir quote thats like “maybe we’ll forgive The Arabs for killing our sons but it’ll be harder to forgive them for ~forcing us to kill their sons~”. or stuff about how they’re Forced to bomb hospitals and schools human shields etc. most entrenched zionists really are not hemming and hawwing about history most of the time… They dont care that they’re killing innocent people whatsoever like it doesnt convince them because they just dont care. They consider it utterly acceptable in their moral calculus. i dont even think most of the time it’s that they dont see palestinians as people, they might, they see them as people deserving of death
