I don't know about you, but I've experienced something one or two times (because I don't talk to people a lot) where when people invite me to share my experience of living with autism, I have to be honest, so I'm usually "Living with autism is an actual fucking hell for me; because I have the pathological demand avoidance profile of autism, I'm 100% non-functional when any expectations or demands are placed on me whatsoever. I went through school miserable, permanently stressed out, and on the verge of suicide almost every day, and I actually had attempted to put myself out of my misery at one point. The things they put in place to make it easier for me never worked because the source of the problem was the inherent demand within schooling. I spent the entirety of my 18th birthday in tears, restraining myself from gouging out chunks of my arms out of distress. I will likely never find employment anywhere or be able to enter into higher education. These are all my autism's doing and not one of my other disorders. My autism makes it so that my only way out of this impossible situation is suicide. I hate my autism and want it gone."
And then everyone's like "Umm 🤨 that's not autism 🤨🤨🤨 you were definitely misdiagnosed 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 you can't continue to call yourself autistic knowing this, you're a disorder faker 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨"
You can reblog this but don't try and reblog it or like it as a relatable thing or make it your own vent; this is my personal vent, not yours. Reblogging for awareness is ok, though.

apparently people are now purchasing thick water to make slimes with because of a trend on tiktok
thick water is for disabled people who can’t swallow properly. stores usually have extremely limited supplies of it.
please don’t buy thick water for fun or to make slime with. it’s literally the only way some disabled people can drink anything. It’s not a fucking toy

“You shouldn’t self-ID as ADHD/autistic, you’re turning a very real mental condition into a trend” Ok then stop saying delulu. Stop speculating on which cluster C personality disorder the criminals you hear about on the news have. Stop saying “schizoposting” and “acoustic” and “is it restarted?” Stop using “psycopath” and “sociopath” as catch-all ways of calling someone a bad person. Stop saying “the intrusive thoughts won” when you bleach your hair and then turn your nose up at people who suffer from very real, very scary urges of physical/sexual violence. Stop saying “I’m so OCD” as a way of calling yourself neat. Stop treating BPD/ASPD/Bipolar as inherently abusive. Stop saying “OP I am living in your walls” without tagging for unreality. Stop diagnosing complete strangers you’ve never met on r/AITA with NPD.
You first. If you don’t want our disabilities to be treated like trends then stop belittling and minimising them. I’ll NEVER judge a person for trying find labels for their symptoms when an apathetic, racist, sexist, ableist healthcare system refuses to. But I will absolutely judge a hypocrite. Which a lot of you are

every time someone talks about someone "faking disability to live on welfare" or anything to that effect i think about how my mom worked in law and directly knew of a case of a guy who had terminal brain cancer with an estimated few months to live and got rejected the first time he applied for disability income. like, he was 100% going to die and that wasn't disabled enough to not have to jump through a million hoops and get lawyers involved. non-disabled people "living off of welfare" is such a non issue because i cannot bring myself to care about the like, 3 people who maybe successfully do it compared to the thousands of people rejected who need aid

There'll be a post like, "ableism is bad" and all the comments will be "yeah! Ableists are all sociopaths and narcissists!" "Ableists all live in their moms basements and don't contribute anything to society!"

anyway this is what I mean when I say that certain disorders being made quirky and memeable does not help with destigmatisation. people can say “autistic cat girls make the world go round” and then turn around and say “[common autistic trait] makes you evil btw”. and don’t see anything bad about that. they’re totally not ableist! they said it right there! they find autism sexy! hell world

Saw a thread on Twitter of "gifts to give a person with ADHD and autism" that was full of stereotypical and quite frankly patronizing items, so here's a list of I (autistic individual) want instead as a gift
Money
Fourteen billion dollars
Free coupon to kill somebody with my teeth
Suitcase full of money
Cool looking rock
Scratching post for me to sink my claws into
An albino elephant
The head of Jeff Bezos mounted on my wall
Uncooked rice
A cup full of blood
100k in cash

"Autistic characters in popular media are always robots or aliens" I mean, that's just not true. Autistic characters in popular media in fact span a wide range of backgrounds, including (but not limited to):
Time traveller
Former cultist
Morbid little girl
Grown in a tube
Ambiguously foreign
Talking animal
Curse victim
Tech support
Raised by wolves
Ninja assassin
World famous detective
French

Autistic spaces are getting so much more hostile towards people with low empathy, and it sucks
There was a subreddit I really liked, people were chill, and then there was a sudden influx of people making posts like ‘Autistic people have empathy! Saying we don’t makes us seem like monsters! Thats not a symptom!’ And people making posts explaining that no, actually, some of us do have low empathy got attacked and told they were wrong or ableist? And it sucks, because its just so hard to find a place to exist where you can be seen as not evil? I don’t know, it just hurts a lot to be told that

I think people would armchair diagnose bad people with cluster B disorders much less if psychiatric disorders hadn't all been given names by ableists who of course picked the traits most unberarable to "sane" people to name them rather than, you know, the ways it affects the people that have them. It's like, when doctors are all "this disorder gives you extremely low self esteem. and it's called the Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder" or "this disorder makes you want to die so bad. and it's called the Hysteric Bitch Disorder" or "this disorder disconnects you from your peers. and it's called the Insane Evil Cunt Disorder" and so on and so forth, so of course you have people going "oh, this person is a selfish fucking asshole, they MUST have Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder! this further proves that all people with this disorder are like that in the first place!" Do You See It

if your class solidarity doesn’t include people who are on SSI, food stamps, or are unable to work it’s not solidarity

Your parents are not "narcissists". They're typical authoritarian assholes who treat you like their property because society allows them to.
Your ex boyfriend is not a "narcissist". He's a typical misogynistic douchebag who treats women like shit because society allows him to.
Your boss is not a "narcissist". They're a typical classist dipshit who thinks workers' entire purpose in life is to generate profit because society allows them to.
And even if they happen to be a "narcissist", that's not what gave them the power to get away with abuse.
So stop blaming mental illness and start blaming society's normalization of abuse. Stop acting like someone has to have a mental illness in order to do something cruel when ordinary people have been doing atrocious things since forever.
