1- queueing!

instead of feeling bad for spam-reblogging and clogging up other people's feeds, you can click the dropdown and add it to your queue instead!

you can edit how many times a day your queue posts, and between what hours. You can easily re-order or completely shuffle your queue as well!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REBLOG STUFF. Tumblr doesn't run on an algorithm!! YOU are responsible for putting cool stuff onto your followers feeds!

2- personal tags

You can have different tags you use on your blog to help people navigate! for example, i use "dh rb art" when I reblog art and "dh rb" for most other reblogs- that's so that people can filter my reblogs out of their feeds if they dont wanna see that, and only want my original posts to show up.

On the other hand, my art is tagged "dh2497" so they can easily search my account for it!

If you open a person's blog and click the search button, a list of Featured Tags will show up. By default this is just the blogger's most used tags, but you can customize what shows up on yours in your blog settings

You can follow entire hashtags too! if you wanna see hermitcraft fanart without following every hermitcraft artist, follow the tag :D

3- Filtering

Tumblr actually hides things you don't wanna see, very nicely!

In your account settings, you can filter specific tags, and even specific words that show up in the post.

sometimes different bloggers warning tag differently (i do [trigger] tw or [content] cw) so you can try to input every variant, but if its something you really want to avoid just put it in the post content as well. Blocklists aren't really a tumblr thing, so if you wanna avoid an entire community you can block their tag as well

NEVER. CENSOR. YOUR WARNINGS. PLEASE. On twitter or tiktok or wherever, you may have to do that or else the algorithm suppresses it- THERES NO ALGORITHM HERE!!! if someone reblogs your post, it will show up for others, don't worry!!! you're just bypassing filters placed for people's safety, if you censor words.

Also! don't worry too much if a word you wanna filter is commonly used in unrelated contexts- tumblr doesn't remove it entirely, but rather adds a 'spoiler' so that you have to click on it to view it. So just in case it is what you want to avoid, you have time to prepare to see it.

4- effective tagging

[read more in detail here] Only the first 5 tags will show up for people who follow the hashtag. That makes them the most important! Then, the first 20 tags will make the post show up when searching that tag. The rest of them do not give your post any visibility.

I see a lot of people reblogging art with fanart tags- that can be useful for searching back the tag in the reblogger's blog specifically, but doesn't actually give the OP more visibility in that tag.

You'll learn what tags to use by checking the content you come across! most communities are "[word]blr", and most fanart goes "#[character/show] fanart". tumblr tags can have spaces!

Lastly, a few notes

you will only have 1 PRIMARY blog. this will appear when you like a post, comment on a post, or follow a blog. your sideblogs will not link back to your primary blog, but you cannot do those interactions as those sideblogs.

artists love receiving compliments when you reblog!! commenting does NOT boost the post. most people put their compliments in the TAGS of their reblog, so that it doesn't become a long post/thread, and if people reblog the reblog of your reblog you won't keep gettings notifications about it. The artist will still see and very much appreciate it

read up on tumblr etiquette, do not treat this place like twitter or you'll be disliked lol. there are some 'big blogs' but follower counts aren't public, popularity isn't a contest here. make friends, or just block/ignore people you don't get along with. no one cares about your petty arguments

AITA for sending a message here on Tumblr?

There is a blog here that I love. We've talked a few times, but aren't close friends by any means. They've been posting some depressing things recently, and I thought oh I will tell them my story and how things do get better. I looked in their bio, their about me page, all over to see if there was any triggers or DNI. Nothing. I tried searching and couldn't find any. I wanted to send an anon message because, while I wasn't planning on going fully descriptive (tried not to go in depth just base info so you could get a glimpse but understand where I was coming from), I didnt want it attached to my blog because I don't want a lot of messages about it.

Just in case, at the top of the anon message I put a tw and attempted to bold it. I then put immediately after that if ANY of the stuff triggers them, to delete the message. So there was space between the tw and the message

Well they made a post VERY angry about how you shouldn't send purposely triggering content to someone and that even having a tw is triggering to them and to fuck off.

Which shocked me. I sent an apology on anon and they've elected to ignore it, at least not post it, which is totally in their right. But someone else sent an ask saying that the anon was a cunt and that they hoped the blog was ok. They posted that the anon (me) was completely inappropriate and an asshole, how they should go to therapy and never talk to someone about their triggers(both the anons and also them, as they have "obviously" been triggered by those things and don't want their triggers brought up to them), and that the anon could "eat shit". I understand they were obviously triggered and I felt extremely bad, and while I've never been triggered simply by a tw I do understand it is possible. I sent another apology anon JUST in case they didn't get the first one. Still nothing on the apologies, but they are answering all the people sending messages about it.

They've made another post about how they are grateful for those who actually care but that they may leave Tumblr because of "that anon who is a twat". Some of the people are saying very cruel things on anon (even so much as to wish harm on the original anon aka me) and the blog is agreeing with them. AITA???

How do tags work? I'm newish to Tumblr and I don't really get the tags. Do I need to tag everything?

hello and welcome! tags serve four major purposes:

to let other people find your content: this is only applicable if you are the creator of the post, not if you reblog it. for example: if you make a post about dean you might want to add the tags "dean winchester" and "supernatural" or even "spn" so that other people who are interested in content about dean can see the post when they're searching for content on tumblr (if you want to find content and you're using desktop, you can search tumblr.com/tagged/supernatural [or whatever it is you're looking for] and you'll be able to see original posts that people tagged as "supernatural." if you're on mobile, frog speed, my friend.) also, friendly reminder not to over-tag things. if you tag a post that is just about dean with "sam winchester" "castiel" "john winchester" etc people are more likely to block you. spam tagging is really annoying.

organization on your own blog: adding tags to your posts lets you find them on your own blog later (again, this is really only useful on desktop, not mobile) and this goes for original posts and reblogged posts. for example: you may have noticed that i tag all of my posts about dean with "dw." that's the organizational tag i use for my own blog. i also have tags that probably don't mean anything to anyone else but that help me to organize certain ~genres of posts on my blog (like "hashtag family"). if you want to search your own blog or someone else's for all of the posts you/they have in a specific tag you can do that on desktop by going to blog.tumblr.com/tagged/tag. so for example if you wanted to search my blog for the dean content you would go to queermania.tumblr.com/tagged/dw

giving other people the ability to block/filter content: this is relevant for both original posts and reblogged posts. for example: someone might have followed you for doctor who content but they are not interested in seeing supernatural content. you tagging your supernatural posts with a "supernatural" tag lets them filter or blacklist it so they don't have to see it. this is also relevant for certain types of content like nsfw, body horror, etc. you may see tags like "tw body horror" or "body horror tw" or "body horror cw" or even "body horror for ts" (that one's an old relic from a time long ago when we had to use an extension called tumblr savior to filter content). content/trigger warnings are subjective. not everybody uses them. not everybody is willing to use them. it's not uncommon to ask people (politely!) to tag for something that might be upsetting to you, with the caveat that they might say no and then it's up to you to decide if you want to continue following them or not. (for example if you asked me to tag for alcohol, i would politely decline, simply because i do not think i would realistically remember to do it and i don't want to promise something i can't deliver and risk harming you.)

commentary that doesn't need to be a part of the post: you may have noticed that a lot of us put our thoughts on any given post in the tags. this is a way to leave commentary without muddying up the post. not all thoughts need to be on the post permanently. in fact, most don't haha. sometimes if you leave commentary in the tags, someone will copy and paste or screenshot them into the body of the post because they think your thoughts deserved permanent status and that other people should see them too. we like to call this getting peer reviewed because we are nothing if not a website full of nerds.

so those are the ways we use tags on this website. you can choose not to use tags at all, use them religiously, or use them only when you want. it's really up to you. you create your own experience. however, if you do opt out of tagging anything at all, people might be less likely to interact with you because it makes it harder for them to curate their own experience. but again, it's really up to you!

Readmores And You - A Really Great Tumblr Feature!

(this is technically directed at stuff I've seen in a specific tag because of the content of said tag makes it more likely to spoiler things, but it applies to anyone likely learning the ins and outs of a new site. speaking of which, hello! welcome to tumblr!) (this got. longer than anticipated. apologies, I get bogged down in trying to make things as clear as possible. ^^")

I've seen this a lot recently in the VC tags especially, where the post goes something to the effect of "tw bloody animal!" then like six periods and the images of whatever dead thing the post is about.

I recognize this is probably being carried over from some other website (...reddit probably? maybe insta?) but please. I appreciate y'all so much for trying to do what you're doing. but this method of hiding pictures isn't effective on tumblr, but there is an infinitely better option!

"but why? it works fine on other sites?" firstly, a few extra lines typically don't even take up enough space on mobile (let alone desktop) to hide your pics, so even at a glance anyone is likely still seeing at least the top half of whichever picture you posted before even noticing the trigger warning on top. second, because you have to scroll all the way past the images at the bottom of your post anyway to get to the next one on your dash/in the tag/etc. so if someone comes across your post and the trigger warning is applicable as something they want to avoid, unless they have access to a keyboard to use a keybind shortcut that ive been here 12 years and still cant remember, they can't see any other posts after it without either having to scroll through the pics or outright block you. which is... not the most ideal of options I would say.

"but what else am I supposed to do then!?" I hear you ask.

READMORES!

tumblr has a wonderful feature known as a "readmore" that's built into the site! it creates a break in your post, which hides any content - be it words, images, whatever - that you place underneath it, not showing it unless the person viewing it clicks on the words "keep reading" (formerly "read more" - hence the name :D).

Cool, how do I do that?

on mobile you can place one by tapping an empty line and clicking the grey squiggle icon from the selection that allow you to insert an image/vid/link

which will place a squiggly line into the post you're making:

(desktop uses the same icon, it's just in a more compact row of icons.)

you can drag it around after placing it too, just like photos. (note: mobile can get finicky with this and it's usually just easier to remove it -click the big red X- and add it in the new place you want it.)

EDIT: some of the versions of mobile editor are broken and don't show the icons. to add it in manually type ":readmore:" (with the colons, but not the quotation marks) on its own line. Thank you for the reminder, LovingTogetic!

this is also a nice way to keep your blog tidy and not swamped in long and/or spoilery posts (say if you're posting 5k word fics, or extensive meta, or gushing over the ending of the latest game or TV show most people probably haven't seen yet)! it's not required, obviously, but it's generally considered a common courtesy for others that will be seeing your post cross their dashboard.

as an aside (I wasn't sure where to put this but under the break seemed appropriate), you may also see a lot of personal/vent posts be fully under readmores as well, even if the post is only a sentence or two long. this is mostly so followers don't necessarily see it unless they specifically click, but there's a more frustrating history to it becoming a thing: when a post is reblogged, any content above the break is permanently frozen as it existed at the time, but anything under it will reflect edits made to the post. while not common, a certain type of user sometimes browse the various "do not rb" tags and will purposefully reblog personal posts in order to upset and distress the users. putting those things under a readmore make it so even if that happens, the text can be deleted from all iterations of the post. recently the site rolled out an option to lock a post to reblogs, but you gotta mess with the settings and it's mostly a habit after a decade here dealing with the nonsense.

Welcome to The Bad Batch Appreciation Week 2023!!!

The time for appreciating Clone Force 99 is near! The prompts have been revealed HERE, so we must set some rules. Seems fair, right? So, here they are:

Event Info & Rules

TBB APPRECIATION WEEK is a week-long, prompt-based creation challenge to celebrate our love for the Batchers and the show. There are 7 groups of prompts—one for each day of the week—, which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to be an inspiration without being taken literally (i.e., you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts in your work). Feel free to interpret them at your convenience. For example, if the prompt is “anooba”, you can create either something about the animal, use it as a name/mascot of a sports team in your modern-day/our Earth AU, or as an analogy for someone with a voracious appetite. It’s up to you.

Each group contains a character plus 5 different prompts (SFW, AU/Trope, Dialogue, NSFW, and a color palette). As it says above, you can use any, some, or all of them. Also there's also a short list of jokers/alternatives that you can use only one time each to replace any of the main prompts. The idea is to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible. The participants can create works in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, art, edits, gifs, videos, playlists, cosplays, etc. The only restriction is that it needs to be focused on The Bad Batch.

Also, people can participate as much or as little as they want, meaning that you don’t have to do ALL the days if you can't/ don’t want to.

But basically I was feeling down in the dumps and I wanted to read some content about comfort characters and I stumbled upon a Mihawk fic so I started reading and (trigger warning here!! Mentions of abuse but nothing graphic described!!! take care of yourselves and your peace!!!) it sadly was untagged with tw and for some reason, in what should have been a normal mihawk x reader, there was him being extremely toxic and demeaning towards his significant other either because he had a bad day or he was jealous and stuff like that.

I know it may seem silly to some people, but it really screwed me over. I know everyone can write what they want and headcanon characters how they want but it got me really upset and I figured someone who finds comfort in writing and watching shows and stuff could understand

Thank you for all your content, and especially for not making Mihawk abusive towards the reader. To me, he always seemed just as you portrayed him. Cold, perhaps, but not one to put you through emotional and especially not physical turmoil. Your fics and even little drabbles and comments are super nice and they helped cheer me up so thanks a whole bunch. And especially thank you for tagging tw stuff too and making this a safe space.

This applies to all characters, by the way, not just mihawk. You write all of them wonderfully and I love reading through them, especially Sanji and Shanks. It's just at that particular moment your mihawk content really saved me a good few silly tears. Thanks ❤️

Tumblr introduction part 1

Hello my dears

Welcome to this hellsite (affectionate)

I have made a small list of tips, tricks and advice for people that are new or just need a little guidance.

1. Tumblr doesn't have a trending feature, so you'll need to search for what you like yourself. I would recommend finding a blogger or hashtag # you like and following it.

2. Reblogging is very important on Tumblr as it spreads people's posts so more people see it. Reblogs are greatly appreciated (Note: It's not the same as a repost which the original poster/OP won't get any credit for)

3. Pinned post: If you want a particular post to be seen when people go onto your blog, you should pin the post. You can do this by clicking on the meatballs menu (●●●) on the upper right-hand corner of any of your posts, and choose pin.

4. Tumblr has a terrible search bar which makes it difficult to find certain posts, so be sure to hashtag # your posts properly as this will make it easier to find. It's also useful when you're looking for one of your own posts. (Here's an example: #tumblradvice )

5. Blog appearance: If you want to edit your blog appearance, you can do that by clicking the three lines in the upper left-hand corner. Scroll down to blogs and click on edit appearance. You can edit your blog from here or if you want more advanced settings, click on edit theme in the custom theme area. You can change the font, background, font colour, accent colour, title colour, etc.

6. Asks: If you would like the option to let people ask you questions, go to the three lines in the upper left-hand corner, scroll down to blogs and click on edit appearance. Scroll down to asks and click the ask button. (Note: you can also have anonymous asks and asks with media) To get rid of ask, simply repeat the above process.

7. Tipping: If you're over 18/an adult, you have the option of allowing people to tip you. You won't be able to receive tips on group blogs and tips will only be on original posts. The minimum amount for a tip is $1 and maximum is $100. More in depth description here

9. Hide, blur show explicit content: If you don't want to see explicit imaginary or writing on Tumblr, you should filter your content. To do this, click on the three lines in the upper left-hand corner, click settings, click account and scroll down to content you see. You can filter tags and posts (e.g. violence). You also have the choice of show, blur and hide under community labels. (Note: Explicit content will be automatically hidden if you are under 18/a minor. You won't be able to view explicit content until you are over 18/an adult. It's very important that you put your correct birthday in Tumblr when creating your account.)

10. Sensitive content labels: In relation to the above section, you can add a sensitive content label by using the button next the post now button, which will show "everyone" and "mature", along with drug and alcohol addiction, violence and sexual themes. Simply select the relevant labels. Using trigger warning tags (e.g. tw) are also very helpful. More in depth description here

11. Links to your socials: If you want to add links to your other social media on Tumblr, you can do this by going to the three lines in the upper left-hand corner, go to Blog settings, then go to edit appearance and click edit theme. Copy and paste <;a href="http://quickguide.tumblr.com/">Link to Quick Guide</a> into the description, then replace http://quickguide.tumblr.com/ with the website you want. Change "Link to Quick Guide" to what you want the link to say (e.g. YouTube) More in depth description here:

hi I just wanted to say after being sa it’s been hard to read fic with graphic content especially with bdsm and dom stuff but the way you write it always makes me feel safe and comfortable because you emphasize conversations about consent and comfort and include check ins. It’s also comforting for me to read and imagine what healthy conversations and consent look like. idk how to explain it good I just wanted to say thank you!

oh my gosh, i'm so glad to hear that my writing feels that way especially after that experience. this means a lot to me to know because i really want my writing to be a safe place for readers even when we're dealing with heavy topics.

also... i've mentioned on my blog before, but just in case you or any other readers that are triggered by SA, there is an upcoming scene in my work this night together that may be difficult. please click under the cut to learn more, but please note there will be spoilers.

another little spoiler warning if you opened this!!

so i'll say plainly that there is no actual SA scene; however, in one of the future chapters of TNT there is a scene in which an alpha gets aggressive with our main character and makes unwanted advances. the scene is a little intense and pushes reader into sub-drop. our ateez boys intervene before anything further occurs, but it's definitely written in a way that might mirror an SA experience without being too descriptive.

the after-effects of this scene are where most of the chapter is spent, but our main character has a really hard time with it. there is also a scene in which she wakes up after a really bad nightmare, and she discusses openly how she's feeling with the other characters.

i will be putting a trigger warning on the chapter when it gets posted and providing a brief summary of events so that readers can skip it should they choose.

i'm not sure if you're reading TNT or not, but you might be and you might have missed my earlier warnings so i just want to put it out there. it's very important to me that people triggered by SA are not blindsided by this, so i just wanted to mention it again.

i hope if you do read it that you feel the topic is dealt with correctly.
