What to watch during the writer's strike:

Don't pay attention to companies who blame writers for delayed movies and television shows! The WGA strike comes from people who are trying to make things better - not only for themselves and other writers, but the films and tv shows we all love.

While we wait for a resolution, I thought I would share some existing television shows that I enjoy. I didn't bother with too much well-known stuff. Instead, I focused on shows I feel many people missed because of the glut of content that all premiered at once over the last few years. (I may make another one of these for movies later on, but this one is about tv.)

Netflix:

The Good Place (2016-2020) - A 'bad' woman is accidentally sent to heaven. She and her moral philosophy professor of a soulmate try to save her soul by making her a better person. Genre: Comedy with deeper implications and one of the best endings in television history.

Russian Doll (2019-2022) - When Nadia dies at her birthday party, she's more than a little confused to come back. Especially when it keeps happening. Genre: Time loop drama with a wicked sense of humor and a dash of theoretical physics. Potentially not ended?

Narcos (2015-2017) - The fight of the American DEA and the Colombian army against cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and his reign of terror. Genre: Drama with thrilling elements. Lots of violence, some sex and language. Lots of subtitles. Features Pedro Pascal and Boyd Holbrook, if you need some extra incentive.

Derry Girls (2018-2022) - Five teens grow up in Derry, Ireland in the 1990s, amid the final years of the Troubles, a low-level war that lasted roughly 30 years. Genre: Comedy. Some sexual content, some religious content, less violence than you would expect, and the best nun ever to appear on film.

Arcane (2021-?) - Two sisters are alienated when one accidentally kills their adoptive father. Their different paths threaten the fragile peace of a city already on the breaking point. Genre: Drama with elements of action-adventure. Though it's animated, Arcane's animation is beautifully done with tantalizing steampunk elements that will keep you invested.

Disney+:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020) - If you haven't seen any of the Star Wars animated series, this is a good place to start. Set in the time gap between Episode II and Episode III, this series helps flesh out Anakin Skywalker and the Jedi. It is also a great introduction to some of the characters and plots of The Mandalorian. (Star Wars: Rebels is another good choice.) Genre: Adventure with some drama. Violence and death are a large part of The Clone Wars, but it's usually appropriate for children. The clone troopers will steal your heart!

Gravity Falls (2012-2016) - Dipper Pines and his sister Mabel are sent to Gravity Falls, Oregon to live with their great-uncle for their summer break. But when Dipper finds a mysterious book in the woods, the pair find that Gravity Falls is far more mysterious than it seems... Genre: Adventure with a lot of comedy. Though it's billed as a children's cartoon, Gravity Falls is an intriguing watch with mystery subplots that will keep anyone guessing. It also features a famously strong and cohesive series ending. I was in my late 20s when I first watched this and I was still invested!

Daredevil (2015-2018) - After being blinded as a young boy, Matthew Murdock trained his other senses to replace the sight that he lost. He uses his skills to protect the helpless in the New York City neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. Genre: Action and superhero. Features a lot of incredibly choreographed violence. (Jessica Jones is also an excellent show to watch, especially if you think of David Tennant as the consummate 'good guy'. He's got range!)

HBO Max (Just 'Max' now, I guess):

Ghosts (2019-2023) - Petty roommate squabbles don't stop just because you're dead! Alison and her husband Mike inherit a house, then a near-death experience allows Alison to see its ghostly inhabitants. Chaos and humor ensue as the ghosts try to adjust to the house's new owners. Genre: Humor. Ghosts is a British sitcom, but since the writers are comedians (writing and performing in Horrible Histories), the show is done in a style that feels more natural to American viewers. Hint: watch the BBC version, not the American one. They're fairly similar, but definitely not the same!

Pushing Daisies (2007-2009) - A pie-maker with the ability to bring back the dead helps to solve murders. He's helped by his once-dead childhood sweetheart. Genre: Comedy with some dramatic elements. Some of the CGI-heavy moments haven't aged particularly well, but the show has a unique premise and an incredibly talented cast!

Hulu:

Abbott Elementary (2021-?) - This mockumentary series showcases an inner-city elementary school in Philadelphia. The teachers and administration do their best for the kids, but they're constrained by budgets and the limitations of the educational system itself. Genre: Comedy mockumentary. Though Abbott Elementary is fictional, some of the issues brought up are all too real. This is a funny and incisive look at the American public school system.

Amazon Prime:

Fleabag (2016-2019) - The unnamed protagonist of the show struggles through life on her own with limited support from her alienated family and the memories of her recently deceased best friend. Genre: Comedy with lots of dramatic elements. Lots of sexual content and references, some language, breaking the fourth-wall, and several characters you just long to hit. I watched the second season in a single day, that's how good this was.

Unknown Streaming Service:

Black Sails (2014-2017) - This prequel to Treasure Island features elements from the book, original characters, and real pirates from history in a setting that emphasizes realism. Captain Flint and his crew search for a legendary prize... one that might allow them to claim Nassau for their own. Genre: Action and adventure. Think Game of Thrones, but with pirates. Incredibly well-written and well-acted with gorgeous scenery, LGBTQ representation, and just enough historical accuracy to keep things grounded. Black Sails also boasts one of the best endings ever given for a television show.

FEW FUN BEHIND-THE-SCENES STUFF I DID FOR “THE UNSPOKEN” WEBCOMIC SERIES (still ongoing, of course)

So I’m migrating some of the (public version of) pre-production stuff I did in 2021-2023 for THE UNSPOKEN webcomic (back when it still had the old name “Trunks and Goten in High School AU”) here, since X/Twitter apparently annihilated the old Moment feature for real. These are mostly research stuff, some warm up doodles and inspiring sountrack playlists I did before a chapter or a story got made. I usually do a lot of research offline before working on any creative project, that’s why sometimes it feels like there’s so many information gets jammed into one chapter: it was mostly to make do for all the time that I didn’t get to, or wouldn’t be able to work on the comics.

Will add in the chapters along side the information paper for clearer understanding ✌️

1. The warm-up expression practice sheet (or doodles, in my case) of Son Goten and Trunks in my webcomic series (late 2022 or early 2023):

Since the idea in mind for these two in the webcomic was to be more “mature, human-like” than the original manga version to fit with the narrative I want to tell and aim at the older demographic, practices are needed :p

This research about martial arts techniques was actually very fun to do due to martial arts and cultural aspects are being two of the things I enjoy the most in life. That’s probably parts of the reasons why I went back to Dragon Ball in 2020: motorbikes, martial arts and mixed races culture.

Back then I did plan on sharing my research to everyone in the form of little fun art lessons, so there were interesting tweets like this or this. Later I decided to share this somewhere else more private (like my Patreon community) since I realized pre-production researches (or something akin to visual developments) are not that well-liked for most online viewers even though it’s a very much needed process in a creative project 🤔

This martial art concept is one of the actual main themes throughout the whole webcomic series, not really the (super duper gay) b-romance relationship between Son Goten and Trunks, yes I’m very sorryyyyyyy I like them too but I like worldbuilding more lmaoooo :p

3. The brief character design sheet and Chinese-influenced culture research information papers - Chapter 4: “The Iron Woman” and Chapter 5: “Her Resolution, His Origin” (mid-2022 until now and will be continued):

The hilarious thing about researching for these chapters are: Back when “The Iron Woman” was being made, the research limited at reading articles and some books about Chinese cultures, and watching documentaries on Youtube. But when “Her Resolution, His Origin” was being made, the research tuned into a real life trip to China, to take real life reference photos and listening to real legends and stories.

This research for “Her Resolution, His Origin” will be posted to Patreon later, of course ✌️

4. The Original Comic introduction and comeback announcements in mid-2022:

I must have eaten some edibles while drawing this because the boys look so good here. Goten looks so good, I even made him the profile picture for my Patreon account lmao.

some old things i made.

i used to call my crochet shop "sadgirlcrochet". i started posting and selling my crochet stuff in late 2020, was dealing with some serious depression, and had only come to terms with being NB a few months earlier. calling myself a girl still felt right back then, or at least not painful. i put frowny faces on everything.

this was the flagship product, the depressed daisy bikini. I'm thinking about re-designing these because they were always my best-selling product. honestly, as someone who works in marketing, "sad girl crochet" was branding gold. I could make any design that was popular with the tiktok crochet girlies but trade a smiley face for a frown and BOOM. iconic piece. hundreds of instagram likes. for example, my 420 creations in 2021:

these are some of my favorite creations from that year. and while they're adorable, they're also simple. i wasn't exactly challenging myself on a technical level - more of my energy was going towards figuring out how to market via the instagram algorithm. because sadgirlcrochet was, above all else, marketable. the clothes weren't for crocheters. they were for followers.

i redesigned the depressed daisy bikinis in 2021. i sold close to a hundred of these, maybe more. i didn't track inventory too closely (but i DID track my instagram followers, obsessively, at the time)

i also had a really shitty phone camera, so i edited the fuck out of my photos to make the blurriness and low resolution into a feature instead of a bug. it worked for a little while. also, my living situation was hellish at the time, but we had a giant yard with this 70-year-old dogwood tree, and it made for an excellent backdrop.

a commissioned witch hat i made for a friend. one of my favorite things i have ever made. after a while, i realized i liked doing commissions more than just creating products to sell to the masses because it let me push myself on a technical level.

this was my most-liked photo of 2021. partly because of my boobs. that's fine. they look great. i created this top because of a commission that went viral, and it spawned so many copycats and fake etsy listings.

my feelings toward the top itself are mild. it's cute. i made it so that people would like and share this photo. there's not much heart in it, if i'm honest. i look back at this top and know that it was made almost algorithmically. granny square bralettes + halter straps + strawberries were all Very In right then so my hands produced this.

the picture above is one of the first photos i took of myself and felt like i looked like my gender. gender euphoria, i suppose, though the stress of my life at the time dampened the joy. it was then that i started really questioning how i felt about having my online image so tied up in my girlhood. in my feminine body shape. i was 24 and recently estranged from my relatives and working through childhood trauma, including all my preconceptions about gender, and whether or not i owed girlhood to anyone.

i owed girlhood to my followers, though.

when i announced that i would be killing the sad girl crochet brand, a lot of people were genuinely upset. i lost over a thousand followers in three months. people didn't care what i, tabby, was creating. they cared about seeing Content under the Sad Girl Brand. that's okay.

when creating for sad girl crochet i felt beholden to both sadness and girlhood. my primary mode of expression and self-understanding, my crochet, started to be incongruous with what i actually needed to express. instead of contending with my sadness and seeking to understand it, i exploited it. instead of finding my own version of girlhood, i recreated the girlhood that was shown to me online. it led to a pretty significant creative drought from mid-2022 till about three months ago, in late 2023.

when you make the art people expect of you rather than the art that is true, you kill a part of your soul. i know this now.

i did my first craft fair in summer 2022 and immediately after, i was creatively bereft. what little bits of creative energy i had left were spent. a few months later my husband and i moved across the state, away from the hellish house with the beautiful yard, a fresh start. once we moved, i told myself, i would feel at home with sad girl again. and i kept waiting to feel the way i did in 2020 and 2021. but the more time went by, the less sadgirl felt like a creative outlet, and more an albatross round my neck.

and weirdly...i started to feel guilty about ever marketing my sadness in the first place. to grapple with the fact that i was making money off of other women and femmes with depression - and marketing to them on the basis that they were as depressed as me. the more i thought about it, the squickier it felt.

i barely posted anything in 2022 and 2023. i signed up for pattern tests and immediately dropped out of them. i made promises i didn't deliver on. eventually, i just stopped logging on.

a lot of life went by. i crocheted for my family, my loved ones, myself. journaled. got back on tumblr. deleted twitter. started trading screen time for books. got outside more. made friends in the new town. and the longer i ignored sadgirlcrochet, the less i wanted to go back.

see, the thing was, i was actually healing and growing, finally. our living situation was stable. my family found our own little village. i came to terms with being trans-er than i'd let myself admit. sad girl was dead. i'd killed her. and that was healthy for me.

creature comforts was born of a desire to be truer to myself and to live with more love. to craft instead of sell. to share instead of market. to be online without wearing a mask. to be active on tumblr instead of instagram. to be a creator and an artist. to let these desires be misunderstood by others. to love, unabashedly.

i'm excited to see where this takes me in 2024.

disclaimer i'm fairly new to rhett & link/GMM + adjacent and i definitely haven't caught up on all the past GMMs or everything else they've done, but i've noticed a lot of things about randl so...

i wanted to bring up link's weird contradictory mentions of his sexuality, honestly. i remember seeing the video where they talk about gay dating apps and link refuses to call himself a straight man ("as a... as me in this world") + the ear biscuits where they talk about how they've gotten more comfortable acting gay "for comedy" + link talking about not caring about labels BUT then i feel like link puts a weird emphasis on being straight and monogamous in some videos too. what i wanna know is if there is at least a vague timeline here you can put these attitudes on because i get the impression he goes back and forth but idk if he's holding these attitudes concurrently or if there's a pattern, maybe? again, i'm a relatively new fan so i feel like it's because i haven't really experienced the timeline of all this myself.

Hello, welcome to the fandom! Sorry for the late reply, I am sort of having very low energy these days.

What I have concluded is that they do back and forths all the time. Sometimes I get the impression they give out mixed signals on purpose but I cannot fully rationalise it.

I have a timeline but it is about my general observation of their interactions and behaviours, through which conclusions about Link’s exploration of sexuality topics could be drawn.

When they started back in 2012, Link was way more reserved. True, he has always been silly and doing impulsive things, but he made sure to not say inappropriate stuff. At the time, GMM was also resolutely a family friendly show. Things such as mentioning sexuality and labels were entirely out of the question. Link had impulsive moments of getting touchy, sensitive or saying something compromising about how intimate (not sexually but more than your guy friend typical) they get in private but those were quickly blocked by a very uptight Rhett.

Around 2014-15, there is a shift in the way they interact with each other. They are more cutesy, more flustered, make more heart eyes. Rhett has loosened up compared to the previous years, enough that he sometimes makes inappropriate jokes, such that Link often has to cut him off or control him.

2016, Link changes haircut. Rhett loosens up even more. 2016-2017, Rhett at times seems uncontainable. Link is more assured in himself, his silliness and his openness but nothing extremely different.

2018-2019, ups and downs in their dynamics but Link goes ballistic. He starts being way more daring in the way he talks and acts, at times bewildering even us. Rhett fluctuates between being flustered all the time or shutting down. At times Link becomes too obvious in his actions. He starts dressing differently, his posture changes a little, he starts provoking Rhett consciously. Other times he seems to be in a low, pensive mood. There are still no talks on sexuality except in a humorous context in LTAT.

2020, spiritual deconstruction (Link’s is brave and heavily insinuating stuff) + creative house. Then COVID quarantine stops them in their tracks. According to what they said, they both were genuinely very cautious during the peak of the pandemic and stayed at home without meeting for quite some time. Link seemed to become more reserved at the time, somewhat going back to his previous self, he is pensive, melancholic and too concerned with Christy’s health problems to bother much with not seeing Rhett enough. On the contrary, Rhett climbs the walls in his house. He becomes uncharacteristically needy and open.

2021-2022, Mythical becomes more verbal and open about its support to LGBT people and Rhett and Link follow along. However, after the pandemic Link has not reached his 2018-2019 levels of boldness. Rhett is a hard mix to define, he is mostly contained and more reserved than the previous years but he has his outbursts too. GME helps Link let loose whereas it takes years off from Rhett’s life. In every Sextember that follows they describe their very straight sexual lives. From the second half of 2022, Link starts to make vague implications.

2023, Link starts the year with big statements such as that he is now living his best life. He starts talking a lot about the exploration of oneself and identity and is more clear in his conversations regarding labels and sexuality. Rhett is not having a good time, he becomes more closed off and appears frequently to be anxious or irritated, which he also addresses in some podcasts. Link’s outbursts sometimes involve provoking Rhett, but unlike in 2018-2019, they now mostly involve speaking more openly about himself. While this is an ongoing situation there are frequent breaks of stated straightness in between. Especially after the summer Link’s intentions have become a rollercoaster, with constant risks and immediate overcorrection. Their scripted videos are steadily bolder than they are.

That’s my recollection, there may be some inaccuracies regarding the precise years mentioned but I think it is mostly correct. Link’s attempts to open up about himself and his journey of exploration is a fairly new situation. The official start is his spiritual deconstruction but it did not become a regular effort on his part before 2022.

Did you see the update from GallaPlacidia (her email newsletter) that she’s deleting all her fics and podfics 10/1? I mostly most Good Omens stuff so I doubt my followers have read her stuff. I just want to pass along the word so people could download if they want to save her works. They’re all so good! I’ve always loved your posts and you seem to have a wide audience so figured I’d reach out to you, if you’d like to share the info. And if anyone has suggestions on how to save her podfics that would be helpful! I listen to them on my phone and have no idea how to download them. 🤪

Happy New Year! Surprising absolutely no one I wasn’t able to finish this in time for NYE, oops!(And that’s why ‘stop procrastinating’ is on my resolutions list 😂). This post probably has tons of typos still so please bear with me, I promise I’ll be back later to correct them!

Simply put, 2021 was a train wreck - I struggled in many ways and decided to take a step back in some regards, including fandom. It’s been a bumpy road but despite the low amount of recs this blog has survived and there were definitely some things to celebrate, too! Once I stopped making reclists I got more free time to read, and I’m proud to say I’ve read a lot. I haven’t felt very confident about my reccing lately, but as I went through my bookmarks and noticed how much I read last year I thought why not spread a bit of love for these works?

Without further ado here are my favorite reads of 2021 featuring Drarry, rare pairs and some gorgeous artworks. This is not intended to be an ultimate list - the works below were chosen solely based on my personal preferences and they reflect very little of what’s been made last year, and what a year it was! Between brilliant microfics, Tumblr drabbles, top notch quality fests, there’s some amazing and varied content to be explored all around. I hope you guys enjoy these works as much as I did, and don’t forget to leave kudos and comments!

The Drarry fandom gave me so much last year; it was there to mend my heart and help me bounce back when I needed it the most. Even the smaller things can make a huge difference in the big picture, and I’m immensely grateful to those who have somehow been a part of it. Their first time was an accident. "Sex pollen," Draco claims, though everyone knows it was too much Ogden's after Puddlemere beat the Tornados 240-230.

This is truly a masterclass in short form, I think I hadn’t read a short fic so gorgeously written since Still Life. Fwoosh took my breath away with the precise choice of words, the subtle way the scenes blend into each other, the sinful smut full of sharp want, the smooth pacing and fabulous dialogue including delicious dirty talk and beautiful punchlines.

The Long Fall by @tackytigerfic (Mature, 3.6k)

It's supposed to be a simple house renovation, and maybe it's just the paint fumes, but Harry is feeling dizzy around Draco Malfoy. And what's the real meaning of family, anyway?

One of my favorite comfort fics, I’ve reread this more times than I can count. Tacky captures romance, wistful pining and the sense of belonging like no one else, I was moved by this devastatingly realistic portrait of married and parenting life. Sensitive, brutally honest and so very tender, this story hits right in the feels - it’s a pleasure to follow every exciting step of this big adventure Harry and Draco get to share.

Two Starts, One Finish by @lqtraintracks (Explicit, 5.4k)

I feel him before I see him. Nobody stands this close to me while I’m playing, and I’m about to turn to tell him so when he says, “You’re a tough bloke to track down,” and then leans against my baby grand.

When I first read this fic I did it three times in a row. I was so charmed and moved by this particular brand of angst: the gentle wistfulness of Draco’s voice, his yearning for Harry, their quiet domestic life and their intense chemistry made my heart burst. Lqt develops their emotional arc through the passage of time with precision and heart - nothing feels rushed, dragged or unimportant. One of the most romantic fics I’ve read this year.

Inside These Walls by @jackvbriefs (Mature, 5.6k)

The year before Draco moves to Los Angeles, Harry Potter disappears. Draco doesn't mean to find him. He's just doing his job.

This fic has one of my favorite premises ever, so creative! The roller blade magic blew my mind and I was obsessed with the intriguing atmosphere and the tension build up. Delicious eerie vibes mixed with an unusual setting, a dark mystery surrounding Harry’s job and his oh so casual sexy display of power, yes please. This suspense is a feast to the senses and will leave you at the edge of your seat until the last line, craving for more.

Potter isn’t nearly as slick as he thinks he is, is all Draco can think about through the alcohol haze and the dizzying atmosphere of the club. He really, really isn’t. Potter is across the club, surrounded by his usual entourage, looking at Draco when he thinks Draco isn’t looking back.

There’s something to be said about a BDSM fic featured on this reclist as I rarely read this kind of smut. Trust Mari to turn my world upside down with one of the most touching love stories ever. This conflicted Draco and his devotion to Harry -subverting the D/s dynamics we usually see- caught me off guard and made my heart ache for this hot, tenderly vulnerable and unapologetic kink exploration delight.

The Other Cottage by @corvuscrowned (Teen and Up, 6.5k)

If Pansy wasn’t shagging Ginny Weasley, Draco would never have been dragged to Luna’s ridiculous Halloween party in the first place - meaning he wouldn't be sitting in the corner of the room with Harry Potter all night.

One word: chills! Yet another mind blowing suspense, this fic gave me palpitations - the smooth and clever narrative builds a disturbing atmosphere, the creepy sense of unease looming over our heads while watching a tender romance unfold. Crazy, right? Such skill! Really creative concept and a jaw dropping ending, this one is a banger.

A Grey Shrike Alighted upon my Wishbone by @opalesqueopioid (Explicit, 7k)

Cursed to forget everything about Harry Potter, Draco has to kill if he wants a cure.

Gosh, this stunning fic wrecked my heart and soul with its quiet devastation, gorgeous prose and brilliant execution of a quite unique suds concept. Draco’s sharp personality took my breath away and I was equally undone by Harry’s sweet longing, the back-and-forth banter and the raw, inevitable heartbreak. Here’s a poignant portrait of a collapsing relationship, the best pick for angsty days.

Merlin's Kitchen by @writcraft (Explicit, 12k)

Merlin’s Kitchen is a shit nightclub but having sex with Harry Potter might improve things.

Everything by Writcraft has the heart kick factor for me, as if especially crafted to meet my tastes. This sexy clubbing fic has a delicious lively pub atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re right there, watching a carefree and smooth Harry charm Draco with his openness, and be charmed back. Fabulous characterization and gorgeous dialogue, with a mature tone that gives it a thrilling sense of intimacy and promise.

My #1 post of 2022

It’s fascinating how some people dismiss smut as something frivolous, vain, lacking substance and therefore value. To be clear, sex is not (and should never be seen as) mandatory in fic, and I feel heartbroken that some authors think they need to include it in order to have their work read or appreciated.

But in my opinion PWPs can be just as deep, nuanced, evocative and narratively powerful as any other story. In fact, they make for excellent character studies and can get you inside a character’s mind in a very particular way. And smut scenes in long fics can be just as useful as narrative tools, often translating dynamics too complex to be explored otherwise. Plus, they’re great for sad horny nights 😔🙌

2022 An Introspection and A Look Ahead – Rie Indie Games

Happy New Year everyone!!! It’s that time of year again when I gasp, reflect, and prepare to surge forward another year! One of my resolutions is to have a more consistent presence on social media, so let’s start off the year with this! Since most of this post will be personal and long, I’ll place it under the read more.

First, I still have the same New Year Resolutions for 2023 as I did last year with two new additions! Those are: 1) Stream 2) Consistent social media presence 3) Successful and productive Dev Year 4) Take care of my health 5) Consume enjoyable content

Streaming!? You!?

Yes! Me! Those who are especially close to me, know I rarely like to game or enjoy content by myself these days. I derive a lot of my enjoyment from media in my downtime by experiencing it with others. I think that’s because as a developer; I spend a LOT of time alone at my desk doing things for hours on end that rarely involve others. And because of the nature of what I do for work at my 9-5, I have minimal contact with others.

It’s unfortunately easy for me to be consumed in my world and go for long periods alone. One of my biggest resolutions in 2022 was to work on that. Especially since it got to where I could count on my hands the number of times I contacted or saw loved ones. Even those who lived a 5-minute walk away from me. To any of you concerned, don’t worry. That aspect of me improved! I spent a lot of time with those who’d been silent supporting me, and my personal relationships benefited from it in a way that means more to me than I could write here. So, I wasn’t at my desk as persistently as I had been in 2020 and 2021, where, if you ask my close friends, lol… They noticed.

How does any of that come back to streaming? Well, I’d like to give more of myself to those I care about and keep that as an integral part of my life. Those who support my works and creative efforts are in that category too! I’ve always done small personal streams on Discord, but there are people who follow me who aren’t on discord, and I’ve always been interested in streaming content and process on a streamlined site for it.

So, segue, yeah, I have a twitch channel with branded graphics, emotes, and badges! And to break it in, I’m doing this! The date for the first stream is FEBRUARY 4TH, 2023 at 8AM PST! As for what we’ll be doing, I’ll let viewers vote. I like the idea of doing a “spin the wheel” type choice after adding a few recommended games to it.

Social Media and Consistency

This resolution will be the trickiest for me. I’m not “good” at social media, lol. I get so shy when it comes to shilling myself. However, perhaps I’ve had the wrong mindset about that? From other creators I’ve seen on SM platforms, it’s less about shilling and more about interacting with fans and just…having fun with it? For the longest, I’ve approached indie game development as this thing that should function like AAA gaming spaces in certain aspects. And I’ve thought that due to what I studied back in university. Tease me, okay, but I’ve had the late realization that no, that is not at all what anyone’s here for, lol! (And if you are, don’t be cheeky in the comments and tell me now. Shoo! Unless you’re trolling me. Then sure. Come.)

People engaged with me because they like my content, they like me, and they’re genuinely supporting me. I don’t have to be uptight and professional, as all the engagement comes from the joy of being here in this process together and the adventure of it. There is no need to agonize over the quality of social media posts. I can just have fun with it! Which…come on, that sounds so simple! But don’t you think the simple realizations in life at the ones that make you face palm!? Like, oh, you don’t like the film you’re watching? Well, you can turn it off and do something else! Like, oh, you don’t like that meal you received? You can send it back to the kitchen and order something else. Or not eat it!? GASP!!! I’m exaggerating now, lol. But recall the HDB principle! For those of you unfamiliar, I have this meme below saved on my PC that goes:

Now you know! HDB means Hit Da Bricks to me!!! If it sucks, leave! It’s 100% a meme, but I think the advice in it is solid depending on the situation as it reminds me of another post from the comic artist Randall Munroe?

Anyway, that’s enough being sentimental over that. What it comes down to is engagement and having fun. Genuinely and honestly. I don’t need to hum and haw so much, and I think that’s come out in my posts more recently.

Successful and productive Dev Year? IseKai Release?

Yes, please! I’m so ready to have it out! Why does the last 10% take 90% of the time? Turns out that saying was true. This is the release year. Come hell or high water. IseKai will be out this year. I’ve learned a lot during ICT’s development. About myself. About my skill set. The brand I would like to have going forward for my creative works. Unfortunately, when you think about that stuff, it’s a lot. Like… a LOT, especially when so much of it is new.

But the indie otome space is also incredibly niche and, honestly, hard on newer devs. There’s a whole mess of my thoughts I could share here, but I think it’s better to expend that effort elsewhere. I have a ton of worries and anxieties about releasing my first product. However, doesn’t everyone? That’s a natural part of the process. I won’t know what impact I’ve had until the entire game is just out there. There’s no sense in worrying about things that may not even happen or spending so much time in my head about it.

Do I have plans for after IseKai’s release?

Well, let’s talk about that once we’re there! Getting there is already consuming enough of me, lol. Will I still make games? Absolutely. You cannot be rid of me.

What does a successful and productive year look like? IseKai is released, I take a break to wind down with my loved ones, and then I’m back on the dev grind! Anything related to that falls into the aforementioned category.

Do I have any specific intentions going forward with my works? Totally! I’d really love to settle into being known for releasing products with narratives that are romantic, suspenseful, mature, thrilling, and enjoyable. That’s what I envision going forward. As a fun aside, I’d love to contribute more well-rounded yandere love interest media to the otome sphere. I’d like them to get less of a bad rap in my circle, haha.

Take care of my health

This one is a doozy… For those of you who don’t know, I had several health problems, two of which required surgery, in 2022. Many of these had been with me for a while and were exacerbated do to some stressful family drama I went through that started at the end of 2020, and worsened to its worst point in 2022. I really went through the wringer. My parent’s health took a sharp dive. Several of my siblings had life crises that I don’t feel comfortable detailing. Not a single one of my family members hasn’t had covid-19. And my husband could finally move in with me. Stress attacked me from pretty much every angle. I was hospitalized a few times. I’m still struggling with migraines, anemia, and vision problems, but things are gradually, slowly, improving.

All of those things are private for me. And since I’m taking all the steps to address those, I’m happy to leave it there.

Consume more content I enjoy

This is big too, lol. I was so busy doing pretty much everything that didn’t particularly pertain to downtime I could thoroughly enjoy. Since I always felt behind, it was like a never-ending game of catchup within my community, the broader gaming circle, and among my peers. I love discovering new games, devs, and projects but I want to take more time with it going forward! It’s a special thing to me, and I want to signpost more about everything I adore!

Wrt your tags (#call me a conspiracy theorist but it's so weird that a bill to stop hedge funders from buying houses was announced 2 days ago #like the timing really sus right), the first mention of a bill for End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act that I'm turning up is a Senate bill introduced in November 2022. (That's on definitely boring government sites, but I imagine most people are not keeping track of all the bills introduced in a given session.)

This doesn't mean you have to be ~happy~ about the House's bill being announced in the news now or anything, but you're not the first person I've run into who's phrasing more general seeming Congress / Biden administration / political complaints like this bill magically appeared out of nowhere. (Or the announcement of Amtrak adding new high speed rail lines, even though that funding came from the 2021 infrastructure and whatever act and shouldn't have been nearly as surprising.)

Like, I get that the original post you were tag-rambling on was about a specific upset with the US vetoing a UN resolution wrt a cease-fire in Gaza, but I don't think indulging in a little 'maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist but...' wondering is helpful for, like, helping Palestinians. (Maybe you were really just trying to joke a bit or something, but I've run into a concerning amount of people who lately have not been joking.)

It's actually not a joke. The federal government lies to its people regularly, tries to hide the stuff they don't want citizens paying attention to, or announces great seeming legislation (that probably won't pass at all like the hedgefund bill) to make it seem like they're in touch with their constituents while continuing to do shady shit. This has been the way it is since I started really paying attention to politics and news cycles after 9/11 when a bunch of my friends at the time were lied to so they'd go fight in a bullshit war.

I legitimately don't know why you care about my opinion about our fucking out of touch/shit for brains government. They suck. Every single one of them is fucking bought and paid for by some or many lobbyists and / or companies. As far as I'm concerned they can all go to hell.

They have all made it clear that their cash flow from Israel is more important than actual human lives. Not surprising really since at the local / state level it's been a quiet thing for years. But it's jarring to watch it play out in real time and at a federal law level.

I also don't really need you to attempt to shame me about my bitterness toward the government or talk about how unhelpful it is to Palestinians (or the people of the Congo, or Sudan, or or or). I am allowed to have my feelings. I am allowed to post about said feelings on my blog. And if you don't fucking like it? You too can go to hell.

1: Song of the year? The Rumbling (Attack on Titan OST). AoT started 2022 off CORRECT, lemme tell you.

2: Album of the year? The Bleach Thousand Year Blood War OST. That Quincy Imperial March gets me going! I can’t wait for the official release.

3: Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year? Kaho Nakamura, from the Belle (2021) OST. Every song she sang was EXCELLENT, her voice is LITERALLY a bell.

4: Movie of the year? The only movies I’ve watched this year are anime, and Belle was my favorite, even though it came out in 2021.

5: TV show of the year? TV: AMC’s Interview with the Vampire. Anime: Bleach.

6: Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you? Bleach TYBW S01E01, the hype was real--Bleach is BACK, baby! \(^0^)/ This has been the year of astounding adaptations. We waited TEN YEARS for this, and it was PERFECTION.

7: Favorite actor of the year? Jacob Anderson. My mind was blown, seeing Grey Worm from Game of Thrones turn into THIIIIIIIIS sexy AF vampire, WTF?

8: Game of the year? God of War: Ragnarok. Only been waiting FOUR EFFING YEARS for the sequel.

23: If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be? Get more sleep, idiot, and put the Pepsi down.

24: Did you keep any New Year’s Resolutions? Not really U_U I didn’t get around to doing any Dragon Age or Cyberpunk stuff this year. And I only did a little bit of the Untamed gameplay. The most headway I made was with Bleach, but I didn’t even finish the Substitute Arc--I really wanted to get to the Soul Society stuff.

25: Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one: I REcreated plenty of sims from a bunch of new fandom INSP gameplays, including: Bleach, The Old Guard, Critical Role, and Interview with the Vampire. I think my favorite has been Caduceus from Critical Role.

I had a lot of fun making him and his CC with all the mushrooms, and the lot I built for him, full of plants and stuff. So rarely do I indulge in High Fantasy, because it’s HARD to do fanciful gameplay--especially for MEN, since everything’s female-oriented in The Sims 3 communitty--unless I make the CC myself--which I hate doing. But I really wanted Caduceus in my game, so, alas.

I received this today and was contemplating of whether to answer it or not. I thought, feck it, why not?!

I have been making GIF's and learning as I go along and I am still such a beginner but I was really proud of my latest post of LBFAD. I think it's my best yet (of those that I posted). The quality is still sub par compared to the ones made by GIF making gods here in tumblr but I was really happy with them especially because I am not techy.

here they are (my lastest 2 tumblr GIF posts) in one of my folders. For example, the one enclosed in red, the file size was too large so I had to lower the resolution so I could lower the file size hence there are 2 there. ETA: On my Despairing GIF post, for the subtitle/dialogue, I used DidactGothic font with font size 15, in white with no borders, and 100% opacity!

I removed the file names here because quite frankly, it's none of your business!

I tagged them as #cdramaedit, I thought that was enough. I was going to put #myedit but I thought it was hubris to put one on mine since the quality is not the greatest but I will now!... when I remember! I also wanted to put my mark on them but I did not like the fonts available so I didn't, but I will now!... when I remember!

Here's one example that I made today from LLTG, this is one of the favourite GIF's that I made. There's my mark on it now just so you know that I made it! MINE!

It is a series of 4 that I made back in late August - very early September. I have only used 2 of them in my posts. I use these as basis depending on what I need and edit - crop, add text, sharpen, adjust hues, brightness, contrast, saturation, etc... I have 46 GIF's in my LLTG Gif folder alone!

ETA: I was really happy with making GIF's and I can see my progress from really crappy gifs to the latest ones which I am very happy with. I have been teaching myself, exploring, and learning more, at my leisure, and enjoyed the journey so far. It's very relaxing. But now, I'm annoyed!

Since joining tumblr, I started making GIF's. I started with GIPHY and quite frankly they were crap! It was grainy, low resolution, but I still made them and posted some of them. The ones shown below are all made by me. I even attempted to put my mark on some of them. My GIF's might be crap, but they are my GIF's!

Afterwards I started using Kapwing which made my GIF’s slightly better but they changed their format (whatever you call it, I don't know!) so I looked for other ones. I started using another app especially in trimming videos (it doesn't compromise the resolution!) so I can make GIF's from them. I also found a better video downloader app which made a big difference for me. Another thing is that I found a new to me app that makes better GIF's in comparison to what I was using before.

Honestly, the one that I can think of is a post I made of The Untamed back in the last days of December 2021. Although, it's a GIF from tumblr showing who the original poster is and when it is clicked on, it opens a link to the original post. It also notifies the original poster. Is this what you are talking about? or are you talking about the cartoon reaction GIF's like Ursula from little mermaid?

Some part of my brain is saying that I should probably take this as a compliment, my latest GIF's are probably good enough to be compared to the great GIFs here in Tumblr. Maybe.

I decided to ramble as long as I could stand it on tumblr, because I rarely am asked about the background/inspirations/ideas behind of any of my works, so I thought it would be fun, and a shout out to my blogger/blogspot days (OMG, SMH). She is a famous writer you know . . .

         Project Overview

I spray painted 200-300 US pennies during the summer of 2021 for one good reason - I ran out of 12” LPs and 45s to paint, and many bad reasons. In late September 2022, I scanned a handful and had a teledildoepiphany while looking at the scanned images. In March 2022, I went live with this teledildofonics NFT project. On Oct. 25th, 2022, I began minting the pennies, with only level/brightness/contrast-esc post scan editing.  Pennies were scanned in at 600 DPI, come in either PNG or JPG files, and with two resolution used, 585x585px and 485x485px.

          The too long potion of a TLDR Post

Note: Tumblr ate the edit to about 3 edits for some reason, likely an ID10T user error code, while doing this, so if you complain about my typos, I will block you just like i do on twitter.  I am a typo machine, get over it.

I am writing this post because a couple of people have asked me about the origins of this “weirdly interesting” (thank you msbourland.tez/.eth for this particular label for my collection, I love it). I usually shit post on twitter all day, and I usually don't write many words on tumblr, I just post photos. I had been sitting on this project for about a year and a half before I did anything with it, and it was because I was thinking about what to do, so I have thoughts to share.

I have always enjoyed stamps and coins. I would not say that I collect them, but I do gather them. Specifically, I would say I gather those smashed penny machine pennies that cost 51 cents and you turn the handle to mush it, and I love wheat back pennies. I have a ton of those too, but no wheat backs were injured in the making of this NFT collection.  Pennies are just cool. I moved with my family from the southern US, 18 hours north to a little state called Maine during the summer of 2020. I will refer to Maine as "Almost Canada" from this point forward. I have always kept myself busy during various life transitional times with art, and that was the same during the summer of 2021, I did the same. I have always been into graffiti, not as a creator, but as a viewing consumer. I do, however, enjoy creating with spray paint and have for about 10 years now. Once the snow melted and the tundra began to thaw in the spring up in Almost Canada, I tried to soak up as much sun as I could and started spray painting everything I could think of. Of the coolest things I had found to spray paint were vinyl records. I started doing this as a test for another artistic friend who was brainstorming for another project. I had all of the materials so I tried it out and sent him photos of it.

I saw something I could do with the records, and I had a shit ton of very nasty, not listenable, garbage records (and many good ones). So I started spray painting all of them I could justify destroying. I sprayed about like 40-50 12inches and too many 45s to count. I had no intent for a longer project at the start, I was just doing it, and seeing where that took my creative spirit, with one exception

I thought “Maybe I should mold them into a sculpture?” So I made a sculpture, one that is about .75 meters tall and wide and a few smaller pieces. This is hanging in my garage currently, my wife won’t let it in the house, and that is a wise move, iMO.

Up to this point, I used a whole hellava lot of words to lead up to the pennies getting painted. I am a walking train wreck, that is how I roll. Eventually I ran out of records that I could justify destroying, so I started spray painting anything I could find trying to brainstorm. I started experimenting with various paper types too. You know what happens outside though, it sure gets windy, and the wind loves to blow my bad pop art around my neighbors yards. Rocks do not work that great as outdoor paperweights for in process works, they sit to high and block the spray depending on your angle. Do you know what works pretty well for holding down paper in normal breezy day inland with out standing is your line of fire while paining? Pennies, pennies work great. And you know what? It is just a penny, you can just throw it away after things dry and that is perfect because I have about 1/8 of a metric ton of pennies in my closet. I don't even remember what I was working on and using pennies as paperweights on, because when I came back to check what ever it was, the pennies had dried, and now Lincoln was a Pink AF, or Green, or Sea Foam, and the 10 that had got hosed down looked pretty damn slick.

I had no idea of what to do with these pennies at first, I thought they were cool though. So did my kids. I live in Almost Canada, and I knew my outdoor oxygen friendly spray painting station would end at some point early fall, so I started painting a few pennies every day when I was working on papers or a canvas. At some point, I was just painting pennies till it got cold. I still have not counted how many pennies I painted, but I have minted 85 at the time this tumbler was tumbl'ed.

          The Teledildoepiphany

The idea to mint just the scans of the pennies came from me doing what I usually do on twitter, I just post a bunch of random things I make or have made and shill a little and talk shit a little, so I posted these. I was still looking for something to do with them. Two people, Santiago @neymrqz and the marvelous ty/fu @tyfu67607885, also two of my favorite people in this whole damn wild world of anons, commented that they were really very good art'ing. The first couple of pennies I posted, Santiago DM'd me and said they were really good, and asked me when I was minting them. "just like the scan of them?" and he said "yes, my friend, yes.” This made me think about a decorated $2 bill I had bought a few years back of Micheal Jordan by Rency. It is an amazing piece. I think I paid $20 or $30 for it late 2019-ish.  $20 for a decorated $2 bill, and I laughed at myself for paying the 10x markup. When Santiago told me I should mint them, thought "should freaking mint these? LOL, what if I charge 1 tezos, cause that would be funny AF, charging 1 tezos for a jpeg/png of a penny. That would be really fu . . . oh. shit. yes. yes. mint them , yes . . . "

And here we are now, slightly after midnight on Nov 2, 2022! Once I started minting them, I began to get excited about it because I finally figured out what to do with a concept I sat on for many months. While this may not be the most entertaining story to other reading it, I wanted to write these thoughts down because given the amount of weed a I smoke and codeine dreaming I partake in, I may not remember the spark behind these. I may not remember my seed phrase, but whatever. So, if you made it to this point, thank you for reading my long winded, typo filled, anti climatic rundown on an NFT project that I feel is my most successful to this point. I have been surprised at the interest this collection has gained and how many sales I have had thus far. 25, 1 tezos sales is pretty good volume for me and my work, so I am glad to see others into it and asking questions. Chapter 161.

Plus some thoughts about Saitama vs Garou so far (Chapters 158-161). Webcomic spoilers.

Let’s start with the cover: Garou twisting his own body into an unnatural, monster-like skull pose is a perfect visual representation of his character during the Monster Association arc. The optical illusion really captures the starking contrast between how the character presents himself versus his real self underneath it, a dichotomy that is a core facet of what constitutes Garou and his storyline. It’s one of the best things that came out in years of the manga.

Before moving on to the actual chapter, I want to dwell (very briefly) on the way this battle played out in the webcomic and its setup.

In the webcomic, Garou makes his grand entrance on the battlefied (Chapter 81) by slaughtering the remaining MA members, Golden Sperm and Black Sperm. He then mopes the floor with the S-Class and threatens to kill Tareo in the case the heroes wouldn’t stand up and stop him: the reader is given clues that Garou could be lying pretending to be a monster, but up until the end, the webcomic is ambiguous about wether or not Garou has truly turned into one. It’s at that point Saitama finally enters the fray and, like some sort of super-powered Socrates, systematically proves to Garou, long the course of the battle, how unifying humanity against a common, global and unbiased threat is a dumb and childish plan and that his monster-play is nothing more than an half-assed compromise from his true, original goal: being a hero. Therefore it’s only at the very end the reader learns about Garou’s original desire and his never forsaken "humanity”.

As I already wrote, in the manga Garou’s real goal and his untainted human “heart” have been the main topic of several chapters, since long before the start of his battle against Saitama (his plans were revealed before the Cadres fights on the surface too). From Fall 2021 up until now every single chapter has reminded us of how Garou is a hero and a good guy: after all, Garou, following his re-awakening at the end of the confrontation with Fang, has only targetted monsters and has cooperated with Metal Bat against a massive filler enemy, Sage Centipede, who was threatening the Support Team and Tareo. Thinking about it, remake Garou hasn’t willingly attacked a hero since the dine and dash Chapter (Saitama) or, before that, Watchdog Man: he was either the one attacked first (Flashy Flash, the Hero Group back in the cabin) or unconscious/sleep walking (Pripri Prisoner, Darkshine, Bomb, Fang) during the battles. Just like Tatsumaki and every other character the manga desperately wants us to like, any offputting element has been removed from Garou and the character has been made unaccountable for his actions when the plot required him to commit a questionable deed. The threat Garou posed and the atmosphere of genuine dread and uncertainity of the webcomic that followed his reappearance is nonexistent in the manga: Fang, the Support Team, Metal Bat, even Suiryu watching the tv from his hospital bed, or the civilians, in this chapter, could see past Garou’s edgy “costume” and tell Garou’s true self and good will. With the reveal of this confrontation being shown so early and any ambiguity thrown out of the window, the resolution of the arc is like a cold dish served on the table way too late: it seems like Saitama and Garou are fighting simply out of obligation after all the years the fans spent waiting to see this sequence finally adapted, even when the narrative framework of the manga MA arc didn’t lend itself anymore to accomodate what originally was supposed to be the climax of the arc. The same thing that happened to Fubuki and Tatsumaki: the resolution of a storyline comes to an abrupt conclusion/turning point before it could be properly explored and reach the peak of dramatic tension. The plot in the manga seems to go from point to point, from set piece to set piece, while lacking a thread connecting these points in an organic and coherent way: a proper narrative structure. The only thing that is driving this confrontation (currently, at least) is inertia. By the way, what does this chapter (161) adds that wasn’t made already painfully clear in the last few*? That Garou can fly now? It’s basically a rehash what happened in the one before. Now, to tell the truth, I suspect the real climax (or anti-climax, for what matters) will take place after this “scuffle” will be settled in some way or another, and that will be the true “finale” of the arc, maybe something involving God and Blast in some capacity - with all the attention given to their plotlines in the remake, I can already imagine being more or less the case, but I could always be wrong obviously. Will it work? Only time will tell.

About the action side of the chapter: Garou martial arts, which should set him apart from any other “monster” in the series, have barely been showcased in a way that differentiate him from other opponents Saitama has faced before. It’s bizarre how the battle between Garou and the Hero Team (and Genos and Fang/Bomb) had a better display of Garou’s tecniques and innate talent at a point in the story when he was wounded, weakened and feverish, than here at the peak of his prowess and martial art knowledge, after perfecting his style and mastering Monster Calamity God Slayer Fist. I may add how the wc provided the readers a tangible sense of escalation up until the finale - when Golden Sperm effortlessly defeated Tatsumaki and Garou instantly destroyed him, sequences happening back to back in the span of two chapters, you knew how strong Garou had became and what a threat he became. For all the power-ups, the trasformations and the additional monsters, the remake has failed to provide a real sense of escalation and growth in regard of Garou (in the last year, I’m not referring to the rest of the manga). The scale of previous battles overshadows what has occurred up until now and even Tatsumaki appears way stronger than Garou. Destroying a couple of buildings is treated as a big deal after all the absurd things that happened in this arc, while moments like Garou dodging Saitama, anticipating Saitama’s moves and “countering” them thanks to his martial art talent are relegated in a few, throwaway panels. Similarly, it’s baffling how shocked Garou is by Saitama enduring his “super powerful attack”, as if being sturdier than a mountain at this point should be considered particularly impressive: few chapters ago Garou karate-chopped and killed Sage Centipede in a single move, ripping its body from the level of the stratosphere (?) to the ground of Z-City  and, when he tried that against Saitama, the latter brushed it off like it was nothing. Right before that, Garou kicked Saitama into the ground causing a massive collateral damage to the island/peninsula/continent**. So why in this chapter Garou is surprised that a less impressive showing of power than the previous attacks failed to do anything to Saitama as well? By the way, the volcano erupting and threatening the civilians? It’s a collateral effect of Orochi’s Gaia Cannon from the redrawn version of Saitama vs Orochi. Psykorochi and Tatsumaki have gone even beyond that, causing cataclismatic damage to the surroundings of Z-City and to the planet itself. Power creep and rule of cool moments bestowed to moments/characters that didn’t warrant it and for the sake of spectacle are truly doing serious damage to the series - like minor events/characters detracting from the relevant ones (see Gearspear being a better esper than Fubuki or Iaian and Spring Mustachio doing more impressive stuff than Fubuki herself and Amai Mask in this arc).

Once again the humor is juvenile, slapstick shticks - bordering in looney toons territor at times. As I said in regard of Orochi redrawn fight, Saitama now acts like Bugs Bunny and has become a complete caricature of himself: a goofy character who does random goofy, cartoony things and is featured in slapstick gags, in no way resembling the more down to earth and detached hero of the past - these momens have become more prominent from the Child Emperor redraws onwards, reaching the peak of nonsense in Saitama vs Orochi (where the former stripped and took a bath in front of a monster for no reason). Every moment featuring Saitama feels less and less genuine and more like a desperate attempt at creating a new meme/iconic scene comparable to the ones that made the first season of the anime so popular. What makes it worse it’s how insecure the remake is about its gags, as if the humor was deemed too sophisticated to be understood by the readers: while fighting Saitama, Garou’s ultimate attacks save by mistake some civilians stuck under a building; then, in the following pages, Saitama points out the underlying irony of the situation, in the case we didn’t get it. And, if wasn’t enough, the same thing happens AGAIN at the end of the chapter with the volcano, which in itself wouldn’t be bad if Saitama didn’t have to explain it to us AGAIN. It’s like the authors were afraid the joke wasn’t clear enough already and had to make sure we didn’t miss it. The incredible synergy between serious and comedy moments of the webcomic is gone, replaced with standard, battle-shounen stuff. The tone of this battle is whatever, but I wouldn’t single out this chapter since it has been all over the place for the entire arc without finding a good balance between comedy/humor bits and serious/tense ones, ranging from boob jokes and naked men to people being liquified and brutally killed on screen in the span of a few pages. The worst thing is that the characters have been dragged into routine of gags and that is affecting for the worst their characterization, thus flanderizing and dumbingdown their personalities - or botching their storylines altogether.

About the completely lack of nuance in the remake: let’s take a look at these two pages from the chapter prior (Chapter 160: 1, 2), for example. The first one on its own would be good as it clearly mirrors a similar scene from Chapter 82. But that’s not enough, obviously. In the following page, a panel has to feature the old page in the case we missed the parallel***, with a supplement of uplifting and heartwarming battle shounen text-bubble next to it - we have to know everything a character thinks, because it would be a real shame if it was left implied! After all, we readers clearly lack the ability to decipher and understand a scene without being spoonfed by the author(s)!

And that Garou and King comparison out of nowhere? I had to re-read Saitama’s speech bubble to make sure to have got it right the first time (yeah, I’m sure Blue Fire is grateful that Garou was around and took care of his arm, that truly helped him).

About Garou’s design: I’m not a fan of Murata’s take on his “monster form(s)”, in particular the very on the nose symbolism of the uncovered eye, and the neon-lights and the “straps” around the arms and the legs slapped over the black silhouete have a technological/symbiote vibe that I don’t think works for the character. I will mantain that leaving out the jeans and the Nikes is a pity - they “humanized” Garou’s appearance in more creative and interesting ways than the eye, with the additional bonus of avoiding to show in plain sight this evidence of Garou’s true self every time a close-up panel of his face/head was required. In general, I think, the “messier” and rougher stroke-lines Murata’s used for Garou in the battles against Pri Pri Prisoner and Darkshine, or for the moment he awakened trapped under the debris of the MA’s headquarter was lift would have been perfect for his Awakened Form - I guess it’s subjective and maybe Murata is going for something different.

*”Few” it’s putting it quite generously: it’s from the Fang fight onwards that Garou lost any ambiguity whatsoever.

**It’s drawn in a uncharacteristically unimpressive way for Murata, as if it’s an ordinary attack for Garou, despite surpassing anything done by him afterwards, even further monsterized.

***By the way, the trend in the remake of re-using old panels has become more and more prominent as of late (in the last couple years in particular).

There’s a couple different reasons why I’ve been struggling with the last chapter, including that contrary to my expectations February and March turned out to be busy and nerve-wrecking irl.

[fair warning, the next three paragraphs are very personal and kinda negative, feel free to skip]

I’m also aware of how setting this in YOHE and making it a/b/o makes it a very niche fic, neither of them are particularly popular in this fandom. I didn’t really care about that when I started writing it (around late October/early November 2021), it’s my self-indulgence project. When I decided to post it early, it was because I felt like I was losing steam on it and needed some encouragement, but I was also okay leaving it on chapter 4 for a bit. That’s the story I wanted to tell, ch1-4, everything else is loose ends plot wrap-up.

And I’m very grateful to everyone who commented, or reached out, or left kudos! But I’ve also realized that subconsciously I was holding some expectations, and in that this is how the war is won didn’t really perform as well as, say, a Weilan-centric canon divergence might.

This is no one’s fault! I recognize that posting it in Jan-Feb was a stupid idea in hindsight, since irl was in such flux that the stress of that made me flee to fandom for validation more than usual, which forced this fic to shoulder more than it should. And I realized I was feeling bad about it as I was forcing myself to write chapter 5 and kept writing myself into corners and hating it, so I dropped it for a while in favour of smaller, quick fics that could hopefully fill the function I needed at the time.

[okay, oversharing of personal negativity part over with :’)]

Now, there are three major issues I kept getting stuck on writing chapter 5:

1) Ye Zun is a brat

He kept fighting me all February, and I ended up putting all my will and energy to put up with him in No Man Left Behind, since that had a deadline -- I wrote it for the Ye Zun Week fandom event. Afterwards, I was kinda wrung out on his character, so I focussed on the other scene first.

2) a worldbuilding faux pas that my beta thankfully pointed out and led to me rewriting several chunks. I really like how it made the internal logic flow better, too!

3) the goddamn politics

I love politics in fics. I do. They’re so much fun, it’s just like, a great big web of character dynamics. The same reason I love poly fics. But I had to figure out convincing reactions from several parties for this one and how to convince them of the action I wanted them to take without like. Creating a new rebellion or big split because I’m not dealing with that x’D it needed to make sense and it wasn’t, it felt very ‘because I’m the author and say so’.

I kept running into this wall at several different points, and it didn’t help that I had written a couple snippets ahead that I adore and want to keep, but that I needed to rearrange over and over and just. Stopped feeling like I could work in.

The last of that hurdle I actually figured out how to get around (by rewriting another chunk RIP me) last week, and I put the final edits on the scene tonight! Which leaves the first half of the chapter at 4k (mind, average chapter length has been 5-5.5k so far). I’m very hopeful to wrap up Ye Zun’s part soon, too, maybe even post this month? *fingers crossed*

Thirteen of the UN Security Council's 15 members backed a proposal that would have extended by one year targeted sanctions in Mali, which expire this week, and kept the experts in place.

But Russia exercised its veto power to block the proposal led by Mali's former colonial power France and the United Arab Emirates. China abstained.

Russia's ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, noted that the sanctions were first put in place in 2017 to support a peace agreement in the long-troubled Sahel country.

"It is fundamentally important that UN Security Council sanctions deal purely with that issue and not be used as a means of foreign influence on Mali, and that is something that the panel of experts of the Security Council has been involved in," he said.

Western powers accused Russia of retaliating after the panel spoke critically about actions by Malian forces and their "foreign security partners" -- a clear reference to Wagner.

A report submitted to the Security Council in August said violence against women "allegedly committed by the Malian Armed Forces and their foreign and local allies is systematic and organized."

Sanctions without experts to monitor them would make the entire effort "ineffective," US envoy Robert Wood said.

"Russia seeks to eliminate the panel of experts' mandate to stifle publication of uncomfortable truths about Wagner's actions in Mali which require attention," Wood said.

"Too many people continue to suffer from the ongoing violence and due to Russia's actions, this Council has failed to renew some of the most important international initiatives for addressing this crisis," he added.

Last-minute diplomacy fails

The expiring sanctions ban travel and freeze assets of violators of a 2015 peace agreement. Implementation has been limited, with only eight people hit with sanctions.

Russia had accepted an extension of the sanctions but insisted it would be for the last time and it sought an immediate end to the expert panel.

Diplomats at the Security Council broke away for a closed-door huddle but returned after failing to break the deadlock.

Russia put forward its own resolution, which it alone supported.

Wood called the Russian efforts "disingenuous and lamentable," saying Moscow introduced an alternative resolution with no opportunity for discussion.

Nebenzia insisted that Russia offered a "constructive approach and a sensible compromise" but that Western powers ignored concerns of Moscow and Mali.

"There was every chance and opportunity for this to work up until the last minute," he said.

- Emerging Russian ally --

Mali has shifted sharply to Russia after back-to-back coups in 2020 and 2021, becoming one of the few nations to back Moscow at the United Nations over its invasion of Ukraine.

Mali's junta has kicked out French forces battling jihadists and UN peacekeepers, lacking government support, ended a decade-long mission in late June.

Wagner -- whose leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was killed in a plane crash last week after leading a revolt against Russian President Vladimir Putin -- has been ruthless in its support of Malian and other African militaries that hire the group.

UN rights investigators say Malian troops and foreign forces -- presumed to be Wagner -- were behind the massacre of at least 500 people in the central Malian town of Moura in March 2022.

The Malian junta had urged an end to the sanctions regime, saying a previous government's support for it to back the peace process was no longer relevant.

But tensions have been rising between the government and the Coordination of Azawad Movements, which brings together predominantly ethnic Tuaregs who in 2012 mounted a revolt in northern Mali.

The draft resolution vetoed by Russia would have voiced concern over "threats to the ceasefire" and urged full cooperation with the UN peacekeepers as they move ahead with their departure by the end of the year.

Pointing to rising uncertainties in Mali, British envoy James Kariuki called Russia's veto "reckless."

"This will reduce the Council's oversight and engagement on Mali's peace process at a critical juncture," he said.
