so my younger cousin is flying in to visit from brazil on sunday, and will be staying here for like, the entirety of july. which, don't get me wrong, is super cool! i love the kid! but it felt like a super weird move, considering his parents are the SUPER strict and borderline helicopter parents. even the smallest prank/roughousing with him/his little sister would lead to a strict talking to from his parents, he couldn't ever do anything without their clear permission, that sort of stuff. so letting him fly at alone at 16 to a whole different country and stay there for a whole month seemed WILDLY out of character. additionally, it just felt like a super last-minute trip. it's not like we have any plans to do when he gets here, and the flight itself and stuff only got booked like, midway through june.
and i was talking to my mom about it, kind of trying to nudge some answers out of her, and after a while she went, "yeah, i think they're sending him over here to get away for his boyfriend. see if the distance breaks them off." which, first of all, surprised me because last i checked, they didn't KNOW he had a boyfriend. literally everyone in the family did EXCEPT for them because while that entire side of the family being semi-conservative, his parents (mostly his dad) are EXTREMELY old-fashioned. so clearly something already went wrong. and considering the only reason the rest of the family knew is because one person found out and it spread like wildfire, i have a sneaking suspicion he wasn't the one to tell them, either.
and second of all. they're sending him HERE. to try to make him forget his homosexuality. i couldn't do anything but just wordlessly gesture to the multiple pride flags scattered around my room, then to myself, because really? he has like two other cousins in the us and they're sending him to me? honey i am about to introduce this kid to queer scenes you have never even heard of. he'll be returning home with labels only shrimp can perceive

I've been trying to figure out how to define a voice that "sounds fun" for a while. For examples, look at @markrosewater and @janmisali. Even when talking about something mundane, it sounds like a setup for a joke. Sometimes it is, but a lot of the time it's just "how they sound". Maro has been a comedian, and jan Misali definitely uses humor to draw you in to their topics, but it seems like there's another level to it. Is it a tone thing? How you time words and sentence breaks? I just don't know.

Dc x dp idea 65
Danny and Ellie were captured by the GIW. Held and experimented on for an extended period of time. Both having been branded by the GIW.
In case they ever escaped. In both forms it’s always visible unless covered up.
It was only recently they started doing the more invasive experiments. Let’s say they vivisect Danny and have plans to do the same to Ellie.
Before they can even touch Ellie somehow through the power of family love or something he breaks the suppression device on him.
Which leads to him being able to grab her. Managing to make a portal he didn’t know he could do.
Whether it the same universe or a separate universe. The portal dumps them right in a middle of a justice league meeting. Danny bleeding and passed out from power use. Then Ellie who is frantic an panicky on full defense.
So now the justice league had to calm down Ellie and help Danny as well as figure out what on the world is happening.

i adore your bad end series! with the most recent post, i have to wonder what little quincey considers dracula to be. his weird uncle? his parents' "friend?" a spooky roommate?
Ah yes, the vampire lord in the corner.
I’m going to tag @unchartedentity for this as they asked a very similar question!
So, @animate-mush who’s wonderful writing keeps inspiring this series to new heights has had Quincey call him “Father” in parallel to Jonathan’s ‘Papa’ and yeah I can definitely see Dracula pressing for that title, both by his ‘right’ as the reason the child is a vampire in the first place “He owes what he is as much to myself as to who’s blood he shares. And doesn’t some of mine run through him now as well?”
And also just because he knows it’s a knife in Jonmina’s hearts to hear Quincey call him that
How the relationship actually pans out? I think that in actually it’s much more of a creepy weird uncle situation, mixed with a lot of Palpatine corruption attempts. Dracula finds Quincey’s whole existence deeply interesting, seeing the Harkers attempts at domesticity is incredibly bizarre to him and also humorous—I think he really feels at some moment Quincey will twist into proper Vampire mode and break his dear papa’s heart doing so, and robbed of his chance to take over England he’ll take his kicks where he can get them.
Also going to take this opportunity to post the Dracula and Quincey interaction I just drew

I want to make a longer post about this someday but: I think Arya's TWOW arc is going to include her coming to terms with her identity as a Lady. This has been an ongoing conflict with her since her first chapter and I think her flowering in winds is going to mark a turning point. The theory of her having an apprenticeship with the courtesans holds a lot of weight and the idea of Arya going through puberty among a group of unconventional women she's fostered a positive relationship with is just too perfect. It would really have an impact on Arya reconciling her personal idea of what a Lady should be. There's also a lot that she could learn from them in terms of courtesies, communication, appearances, body-language, etc. that would elevate her current skill-set and ways her relationship with them could push the plot.
Not to mention she will undoubtedly reclaim her identity as Arya Stark, and her being a Lady is inseparable from that. Arya Stark is a Lady Stark and being a Lady is a social position, not a measure of how well someone preforms feminine tasks. She shouldn't have to relinquish her position because she doesn't fit patriarchal standards. That's not to say that she's ever going to be the perfect example of a traditional Lady but what I think will happen is that she becomes capable of playing the part. She plays several identities throughout the series but she's always been Arya underneath, so I think it's appropriate that she learns to adopt a "persona" that's part of her. Her remembering Ned putting on his "Lord's face" (+ the various examples of other characters being separate from their ruling persona) makes me think that Arya will be donning her "Lady's face" when she makes a return to Westeros.
#arya stark#asoiaf#twow speculations#Arya has been through so much traumatic shit and I think her flowering is going to bring up a lot of her self-esteem issues#I just really need her surrounded by kind older women when that happens so she can have some comfort#George saying her arc in braavos could be the plot of a YA novel?? definitely makes me think she's going to grow up a lot there#she's already one of the most mature characters so I think part of it's going to be her accepting her duty as a Stark Lady#she wants to help and protect people and the best way she can do that is if she has political power#She could learn that first hand in TWOW#possibly through her finding out about her marriage??? and meeting Jeyne in Braavos??#and before someone says it courtesans are so much more then sex work so I don't want to hear it#they are such a big part of Braavosi high life...they're cultured and connected with very important people#I just have so many thoughts on the subject cause I think her apprenticeship with them will serve multiple purposes#the faceless men and their plans...the iron bank...the sealord...It's all connected and I think her apprenticeship with them will kick off#the braavos plot and could mark the beginning of the end of her time with the faceless men and in braavosi#half a boy half a wolf pup -> half a lady half a wolf#I think her current skillset fits well and it's likely she'll learn even more in TWOW#Arya defining her own role as a Lady and becoming comfortable means so much to me

One more thing. In the cutscene, when Eris starts chanting and "invokes the Worm gods," we hear her say three words:
Tumblr media
"Akka... Xita... Sel..."
Obviously Akka and Xita are Worm gods. New Worm god just dropped??? We've never before heard the name "Sel." The only pattern I'm seeing in these being invoked is that Akka and Xita are dead. So maybe Sel is another, some forgotten Worm god that's died a long time ago. Or maybe it's just a word in the incantation, but that's a strange placement for it here with two other Worms.

I think ART would be so easy to troll. If for some reason I was stuck onboard it I would spend all my time doing my best sharks-are-smooth impression, and nothing else constructive. Actually, Perihelion, atoms are the same size as molecules. No, atoms don't make up molecules, they're all the same size. I checked. I looked at some atoms and molecules last weekend and they were all the same size. Yeah, with my bare eyeballs. Eyes don't lie, they're all the same size.
Yes, I'm looking at your nice picture right now and it's saying atoms and molecules are the same size. Nope look again the picture shows they're all the same.
And in this scenario I get a twofer to annoy MB too, cause it has to keep stepping in to keep ART from killing me. 'Most annoying human' is a game and I'm WINNING.

I love when there's a Big Bad that feels all powerful and undefeatable but then we start to get to know the Big Bad and suddenly an even Bigger Badder entity enters the story and we realise that the first big bad was actually not that powerful and can barely hold their own against the bigger bad but that doesn't matter because it just serves to show how terrifying the new threat is

it always intrigued me that tom riddle chose to go by the name "Riddle" up until he created the Voldemort persona and the Death Eater movement. because we know as of Chamber of Secrets that Tom is aware of his Gaunt heritage by the time he's 17, if not earlier, and the backstory of the Riddle murders in HBP confirm this account: by his last years at Hogwarts, Tom knows that he's the Heir of Slytherin and a direct descendant of the House of Gaunt. but he continues to go by his muggle father's name, even in Slytherin, where that lack of pedigree immediately marks him out as Outsider.
maybe it would just have been too much of a hassle to change his name while he was at Hogwarts — that's fine. but he continues to go by Riddle even afterward (during his time at Borgin and Burkes, see his encounter with Hepzibah Smith, cf. HBP), when he could've reinvented himself rather seamlessly as Thomas Gaunt, Heir of Slytherin. it's possible that Tom didn't want to associate himself with the pathetic remains we see of the Gaunt family, but I would still assume that the name, with its attendant Slytherin legacy, would be worth a considerable amount in certain pureblood circles.
all of that leaves me to imagine that Tom's disdain and loathing for Merope is just so strong that he would rather have a muggle's name than hers, even if it means he can't claim her heritage as his own. of course, this is also evidence that Tom never actually cared all that much about pureblood supremacy or birthright as such; he cared about power, magic, and his ability to control others' access to each.

I think I tend to read htn as muir playing with tropes commonly used in tragedies to examine what we think is a tragedy/what tragedy even looks like when death isn't the end. That's the most shakespearian thing about her writing imo. I know I am constantly on about how htn is basically a shakespeare play but it IS and that's because she is doing a similar thing with her stories within the story. She is throwing out potential endings left and right and then subverting all of them. That's why I don't think everyone's encouragement to harrow to give up on keeping gideon safe really can be taken at face value. It's like. To use one example (but you literally could insert 5 different plays here) it's like when Isabella thinks her brother is dead. It's forcing the audience to think about the consequences for that but the terrible part is more that there was someone in power who could easily order a death or stop it on a whim. The point is not that harrow needs to learn to let gideon go for moral or self-actualization reasons imo. The point is that the death is a site of potential for harrow to either be manipulated into upholding john's goals or for her to reject the whole premise behind them by deciding gideon's life is more important

I think he was granted omnipresent by Home who is the one pulling the strings (pun intended) or maybe theyre one of the same due to brainwashing, and he dissociate to try to control that power so he dosen't hurt his friends but he just looks like he's going through 28 social crises at once or on cloud 429.
Clown themselves said that math literally melts his brain, and he doesn't know how to tie his shoes but look at him. He's like a cat they hold some forms of omnipotent power in that small goober body they have
I love cats so much. I want one, but my mom is deadly allergic, and we already have 3 pets
