here's to the 63rd trip around the sun for this beautiful human being whose voice basically raised me and i'm sure will be with me for the rest of time.
the familiarity i feel towards this man is so big i feel like he's my uncle or something; i'm forever grateful to my dad for introducing me to his voice and his art.
he's a gorgeous, warm, gentle, proud irish soul and his voice comes from somewhere so deep and remote that makes it difficult to describe; i'm not a religious person but what comes from him is indeed of spiritual nature, and i embrace it every time.
i adore you and i love you very much, i sincerely hope to get to see you someday, i really need it.
I was supposed to do the Foley Audio workshop this week, however, it was canceled on Monday morning so I did some brainstorming this week on how I could possibly include auditory disruption to enhance my project. I wanted to step away and explore something other than disrupting the body for my project to see if there was another route I'd prefer to go down as I've had a song in mind for Disrupt since the beginning of this project.
The song I thought matched with the theme of Disrupt is Buying Smokes by The Academic which is a band that I’ve loved since I was 13. The last 35 seconds of the song are an intense buildup and crescendo of electric guitar, drum, bass, piano and a bunch of other funky noises added in production. It’s an extremely intense loud and crazy ending to a song which then cuts off bluntly into pure silence at the end and I personally think it fits the theme of Disrupt beautifully/
I found it really enriching to explore different ideas for my project even if I won't necessarily use them during my project. During my progress review I was recommneded the app "Audacity" for audio inclusion in my project and I'm going to look for a possible way to add this to my project.
So my Mom went to elementary school in London and was an Irish American who’s only friend was an Irish girl who’s mom ran a pub. She told me that they’d play this shit pretty much 24/7 at this spot and she’d been addicted ever since. Well since I’m her kid it’s been drilled into my brain as well and I absolutely love this record. There’s lines her or there where the lingo they’re using is offensive, or they have the facts of the situation wrong (for instance the song ‘Jesse James’ dude was a terrorist for the confederacy and a racist snd deserved to be killed, and I’m literally his relative) but their heart is often in the right place! They’re singing songs for the little guy. They’re like the drunk guy at the bar who can’t use the right words but is a better ally then the liberal college educated scum bag. Incredible record.
