"Where is everyone?" I asked, my eyes scanning the empty mess hall. Alexander, sitting alone at the table, flashed a warm smile and rose, extending his hand toward me.
"Outside," he replied, that familiar grin lighting up his features. He had waited for me, choosing companionship over solitude. In that simple gesture, he became the embodiment of the better man I couldn't have dared to dream of.
I accepted his hand without hesitation, and together we moved towards the doors, picking up pace with each step.
"What are we doing?" I questioned, still trailing behind him.
The doors swung open to reveal a joyous scene—everyone dancing in the rain. While the others reveled in the sky's tears, we stood under the covered porch of the mess hall, observing the euphoria.
"Holy shit," I yelled out, laughter bubbling up as I let go of Alexander's hand and ran towards the others.
"Hange!" I called out to them, joining in the celebration. Raindrops adorned their face, merging with the lenses of their glasses.
"It's raining."
"It hasn't rained in forever, it feels like," I marveled, looking up at the sky. Closing my eyes, I savored the sensation of water cascading down my face.
"It's been five months exactly," Hange remarked, their eccentricity evident even in this simple revelation.
"Only a weirdo like you would know," Alexander's voice interjected, and I opened my eyes to find him standing there. His ash brown hair was drenched, yet a smile persisted on his face—a gesture that spoke volumes, considering his aversion to being wet. He knew, though, how much I cherished the rain.
"Come dance, Alexander," I invited, a smile playing on my lips.
"Iris," he said, grabbing my wrist, I watched his smile drop into something I've never seen before.

My eyes fluttered open to the chaotic sounds of banging and things crashing around. The bedroom door swung open abruptly, revealing Alexander barely able to stand, using the door frame for support.
He was drunk again.
"Iris," he slurred, stumbling toward the bed. "What the fuck."
"Why is my bed covered in papers? I told you to be ready for me when I come back," he complained, his words muddled by alcohol, as he approached the scattered documents.
I cursed silently. I had fallen asleep in the midst of doing paperwork, and now I had no idea where I was in the process. Quickly, I began gathering the papers in my hands, hoping Alexander could sleep off the effects of the alcohol. He was a different man when he was drunk.
"Can I have that, please?" I asked, attempting to take the paper from his hands.
"I don't know, can you?" he retorted. "What is this, anyway?" he questioned, squinting at the paper. He was too intoxicated to make sense of the words on the page.
"Work from Erwin. Now, lay down, and I'll get you whatever you want," I urged, trying once again to take the paper from his grasp. He stubbornly ripped it back, fixing me with a drunken stare.
"Why the hell do you have that pipsqueak's paperwork in my room?" Alexander growled, his voice escalating in volume.
"Was that freak in my room?"
"No, Alexander," I responded, attempting to calm the situation. "Please give me the papers back and lower your voice. People are sleeping."
"I don't give a damn!" he yelled, disregarding my plea. "Now tell me, was Levi in my room?"
"Alexander, no, he was not. I'm just doing paperwork. Please stop yelling," I pleaded, but he ripped the remaining papers from my hands and stormed out of his bedroom.
"What are you doing?" I asked, fear creeping in as I hurried after him. He stood in front of the fireplace, methodically tossing the papers into the flames one by one. A grim smile crossed his face as he glanced over his shoulder at me.
I rushed in front of him, grabbing the fireplace tongs to retrieve the burning papers, but it was futile. He threw the entire stack into the fire.
"Alexander, what the hell?" I screamed in frustration. He took the tongs from my hands and laughed, reveling in the chaos he'd created.
"Don't talk to me like that now," he growled, lowering his voice as his eyes darkened. With a grumble, he pushed my shoulders, sending me stumbling back into the bricks, my head hitting hard. His hand slid across my face, while the other gripped the back of my head, bringing my face closer to his, relishing the fear in my eyes.
The man before me was unrecognizable, a stranger born from the depths of his increasing alcohol consumption.
He threw me to the floor and started a relentless spree on my stomach, muttering incoherent words in between kicks.
"Wish you'd be more like her," he grunted with each blow. "You're nothing but a useless whore."
I curled into a protective ball, cradling my head between my arms and trying to shield my stomach with my legs. His drunken rampage continued until, finally, it ceased.
Was it safe for me to get up? Was he still awake? It didn't matter; he was so intoxicated that he probably didn't even realize what he had done. Not the first time.
I picked myself up, holding my aching stomach. The bastard had done a number on me today, at least sparing my face this time.
I gathered the papers I could salvage and threw on my brown cloak over my white nightgown. Moving as quietly as possible, I entered the room to find him laid out on the bed, face-first. My eyes lingered on the pillow, contemplating dark thoughts for a moment longer than I should have.
I could end it all right now. The pain would be over, but I couldn't. I love him, and he didn't mean it. He never does – that's what he tells me. Shaking free of the dark thoughts, I lifted his head and placed the pillow under him. Swiftly, I left his room and ventured into the dark corridors of the Scout Regiment.
Why did I entertain such vulgar thoughts? Alexander had been good to me, ensuring my well-being. So why did I want to hurt him in return? I wouldn't wish him the same harm he inflicts on me. I wondered if he felt the same, a twisted dance of pain between us.
The medical room was closed at this time, and I had no bandages of my own. I doubt bandages would help my stomach anyways. The only place open for me was the mess hall. Setting down a wall lamp on the table, I sifted through the saved papers – not much, but something. How would I explain this to the captain?
I couldn't tell him that Alexander threw them into the fire. He wouldn't believe me, and I sensed Levi catching on to my lies. Levi was a smart man, and there was no outsmarting him. I'd have to face the truth and its consequences once again.
The doors creaked open from the outside as I observed a small figure walking through, their cloak concealing their face. Who could be out this late? How did they manage to slip past the night patrol? They must've bribed the off duty officers well. Hopefully they come my way and bribe me to keep my mouth shut for seeing them out past curfew.
"What are you doing?" The familiar voice cut through the quiet. I looked up at him standing over the table, his eyes peering at me under his hood.
Looks like no one is bribing me with money after all.
"Captain," I said, quickly standing up and saluting him.
"At ease," he ordered, lifting his hood down. "Why are you still awake?" He glanced at the mess on the table and back at me.
"Those papers don't look done to me."
Well fuck.
"Correct, sir. I'm, uh," I stammered, fidgeting with my hands. "I'm getting it done right now."
"With no quill?" His eyebrow arched as he picked up the paper, examining it. I felt my body slump back into the chair, resting my elbows on the table and burying my face in my hands. I'm in trouble.
"Aldridge," he said, his tone laced with anger. "Why does it look like this was on fire?"
I couldn't find the words even if I tried. My tongue felt heavy, caught at the back of my throat. The chair screeched as he took a seat in front of me.
He pulled my arms from my face, his grip tightening around my wrists as his eyes bore into me. I could only look away, trying to hide my face in my shoulder.
"Answer your captain when he speaks to you," he scowled.
"Because it was," I bit my lip, attempting to hold back tears. "Please let go of my wrists. It hurts."
He released my wrists and stood up. I could feel him moving around me, his fingers gently lifting my chin. I resisted opening my eyes; I didn't want him to witness my current state. How could I be his second in command when I was reduced to tears over burnt papers?
I couldn't even stand up for myself. How did he expect me to be a part of his squad?
"Open your eyes," he said, his voice significantly softer than before.
Reluctantly, I opened my eyes to find him squatting at eye level, his fingers still supporting my chin.
"What happened?" he asked.
"The papers got tossed in the fireplace. I'm so sorry, Captain. I tried to save them, but I couldn't save them all. I'll accept any punishment-" he shushed me.
"How did they end up in the fire, Iris?" his soft voice queried again.
"I-I don't know," I stammered.
"Don't lie."
"Alexander," was all I managed to say before he stood up and began to walk away. In desperation, I grabbed his arm, trying to prevent him from leaving the mess hall. He dragged me along until he stopped in annoyance.
"What are you doing?" he demanded.
"Please," I cried, falling to my knees. "Don't go to him. Don't wake him up. I just got him to sleep. Please. He was drunk; he didn't mean to." My sobs grew louder as I dropped his arm, hands now covering my face. He stood there, towering over me, witnessing my pathetic state at his feet.
"Please. Don't wake him up," I pleaded again.
"You're going to wake everyone up," he remarked. "Go sit down at the table and collect yourself."
His footsteps faded into the mess hall as I laid there embarrassed and ashamed.
I pulled myself up and sat down as Levi instructed, laying my head on the table, bracing for the inevitable yelling from Alexander's hall. I would trade it all for to return to the time before Alexander became captain – when he wasn't constantly drinking and was still the sweet man I knew.
"Here," Levi's voice broke the silence.
I lifted myself once more to see him handing me a tea cup. I accepted it, watching as he poured chamomile tea. "It'll help you relax," he explained.
"Thank you, Captain," I said, lowering my eyes to the tea.
Moments passed in a comforting silence, like I didn't just break down at my Captains feet.
"Let's run through what happened, shall we?" Levi's gaze met mine.
"I-" I stumbled over my words. "Alexander came back drunk from one of his meetings."
"What meeting?" Levi asked quickly.
"I don't know. I'm assuming with Erwin or the captains."
"How often does he go to these meetings?"
I gave him a puzzled look but answered,
"At least once a week."
"Does he tell you where?" Levi continued.
"I... no. Well, some have been in Wall Sina, actually, but-" I stopped to look at him. "Why are you so curious about it?"
"It doesn't matter; just answer truthfully," Levi said. "Does he talk about the meetings at all with you?"
"No."
"Mention who goes?"
"Erwin," I replied. "You. Mainly captains."
"Why are you asking about meetings right now? Aren't you supposed to be scolding me for the paperwork?" I huffed. Levi's sudden interest, especially in Alexander, was confusing. He never showed interest in anything.
He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, clearly frustrated. "Continue," he ordered.
"Alexander came back drunk and pissed off. Thought you were in his room while he was gone because of the papers and threw them in the fireplace. And yeah, so on," I quickly explained, feeling out of breath.
Levi just stared at me, his index finger lightly tapping his teacup as he prepared to take another sip. "Alexander a nasty drunk?" he asked, catching me off guard.
I paused, taken aback by the unexpected question. "I'll take that as a yes," Levi remarked before I could answer.
"No, he just has his moments," I quickly defended.
"Oh yeah?" Levi leaned forward, putting his elbows on the table.
"Yeah," my voice trailed off, avoiding Levi's harsh gaze. I felt like I was being dissected.
The chair beneath Levi squeaked as he stood up. His hand moved across the table, and I flinched down before his touch reached me. Embarrassed, my eyes quickly met his.
His gaze scanned me, a flicker of curiosity crossing his eyes. "I wasn't going to hurt you," he said gently, laying his hand on top of my head and messing up my hair.
"I'm sorry, habit," I laughed, trying to ease the tension.
"Get some sleep. Or don't. You better be in the barn after breakfast, no excuses." he said, walking away.
As I sat there alone in the dimly lit mess hall, the silence wrapped around me like a comforting shroud. Levi's unexpected concern and the unsettling revelation about Alexander's darker side left me pondering the complexities of the people I thought I knew.
The memories replayed in my mind – Levi's piercing gaze, the gentle touch of his hand, and the way he revealed a sliver of understanding. It was a side of him I hadn't anticipated, a softer edge beneath the stoic exterior.
Then there was Alexander, my once sweet and caring partner, now transformed into a man I struggled to comprehend. The alcohol had become a good fried, distorting his personality into someone unrecognizable.
I leaned back in the chair, staring at the ceiling, lost in my thoughts. The tea in the cup had turned cold, mirroring the chill that lingered in the air. The events of the night had left an indelible mark on my perception of those around me.
In that quiet moment, I wondered if our lives within the walls were destined to be entwined with such complexity. Levi's presence had offered a strange solace, an unexpected refuge in the chaos that had unfolded.
As the first rays of dawn painted the sky, I rose from the chair, leaving the mess hall behind. The barn awaited, and with it, the challenges of a new day. I couldn't erase the turmoil of the night, but perhaps, in facing the realities before me, I could find a semblance of clarity amidst the chaos.
Or so I thought. After that day Fate laughed at my innocent eyes. If only then I knew, maybe I could have done something then.

Today was my 1000 Day of CotC!!
I drew a little Isla and Iris to celebrate!
Thank you, Isla, for all the letters sent! The tidbits of Orsterra lore were very enjoyable. I will very much miss getting them every day!
My Traveler Card statistics on Day 1000!
Between Days 900 and 1000, I have:
played 286 hours.
welcomed 3 new Travelers to my brigade.
got 8 5-Stars to Level 100.
had a 2-1-3 growth in my Influences.
If you were not aware, Day 1000 is when the daily letters from Isla cease. But no worries, you still get the rubies from the errand cats! Just no quirky letter to go with it.
In addition, a section in the Manuscript of Salvation opens up where you can view all 1-1000 letters! I want to translate them all one day!
Now the next big milestone to reach is 5 Years of being a CotC fan, that's on March 25th. So soon!!

For the Birthday Q&A -
Armington's Centennial is coming up in game. Is there any plot significance to that milestone or did you just choose it for the nice round number?
Does Armington have a particular look? Since the town is approaching 100 years, are there any areas that are kept looking a certain way by a historical society, or has the town architecture changed with the years?
Do the ROs prefer small towns or big cities?
Who is the most fashionable in the cast? Who spends the most time on their daily routine and getting dressed?
Well, in the US, Centennial Celebrations are still a pretty big thing, as are Bi-Centennials. The idea of the celebration came up as a way to move the story forward, while laying the ground work for the rest of the books!
Yes, it does indeed! In my head, it has a coast to the south east that is similar to this:
And the forest cuts it and the orchard off except for a single main road and the town is pretty much carved in the middle of the forest itself, as Armington is bordered by it on all sides. There's some farm land on the outskirts, but not a lot.
The town itself hasn't changed much. There's still a lot of older infrastructure, mostly just being maintained and being updated with better pipes and wiring, but keeping the original look.
Blake doesn't much care, so long as there's a bar and somewhere he can get junk food, be it a gas station or like, a Walmart.
Loche and Fawn both dislike cities in general, towns included, as they'd rather live in a house in the middle of nowhere or something. But if they have to choose, it'd be small towns.
Freja prefers cities, but that's because it's easier to go unnoticed in cities with a large population. Otherwise, she doesn't much care either way.
Adontis prefers small towns, but preferably ones he can still get shipments of wine in easily and get his postage sent out in a timely manner.
Iri likes cities. They like having a shit ton of options on what to do or where to go. They also like the noise.
Fashionable on the either cast? Adontis. However, Sylvia takes the longest to get ready in the morning. She's up usually two hours ahead of time to make sure she has all the time she needs to do... whatever it is she does for her routine.

Hey friend…because I love hearing your thoughts and giving you chances to ramble; wanna tell me your favourite things about Benimaru and Kanro as a couple?💜
Aw! Thanks for the ask, friend!!! I love Benimaru and Kanro from Fire Force! Best couple!
Also, I'll try to not give too many manga spoilers as I know you haven't read it all.
Here are some of my thoughts. This is long so it's under a cut.
The reason why they're my favourite couple in the series is because of their backstory. Besides the fire of Asakusa, Benimaru is shown to have a secret inferiority complex (illustrated later in the manga). After the fire this complex blossoms under the weight of guilt. Deep down he feels he didn't "earn" the position of captain. Benimaru thinks by running Company Seven he's doing everything wrong. It's the guilt talking but he cannot see it. All Benimaru sees are the great qualities in Kanro. The result? He cannot stop imagining "what if Kanro was the captain?" consistently.
(Of course, this changes after meeting Company Eight and being shown that everyone in Company Seven respects him and don't hold anything against him.)
2. I firmly believe that Benimaru and Kanro were dating before the Great Fire of Asakusa. Benimaru puts on a "tough love" front, but deep down he cares a lot. He puts hard work into everything even if it doesn't appear so. I think that's how he approaches his relationship with Kanro.
3. Benimaru is 100% unsure HOW to approach asking Kanro out. There aren't a lot of people he'd call "friends" or even "confidants". Instead he tries to watch couples around Asakusa and subtly "ask" people questions.
Spoiler: He's not subtle. Everyone in town knows he's been pining after Kanro. They all think it's cute though and remain silent. It would embarrass Benimaru if he knew they knew.
4. Benimaru manages to gather his courage after dinner to ask Kanro out. Sadly Kanro was washing dishes and couldn't hear him over the water. Benimaru nearly runs away when he's asked to, "Could you repeat what you just said, Beni?" However, he doesn't and firmly repeats himself. His ears are flushed and his face is pink but Kanro hears him. Kanro nearly bluescreens as he processes Benimaru asking him out. His silence makes Benimaru think it's a no. He almost leaves but Kanro manages to confess he'd love to go on a date.
5. Their first date is supposed to be lowkey but EVERYONE in Asakusa knows they're dating. Everyone is trying to be subtle but they're just Too Excited to see the two on a date. This results in Benimaru and Kanro going somewhere quiet, perhaps sitting by the river bank and enjoying the view. They probably end up sparing because that's exactly the kind of activity to be included in their date.
6. This is also when they first kiss and it's right out of a cliché romance novel Sister Iris SWEARS she's not reading. It's the usual pin to the ground or tree move and the breathy "I win" followed by the other losing their mind and initiating the kiss. Who "won" and who "lost their mind" will never be revealed. Ever.
7. Benimaru is the one who wants to propose so he spends six months secretly taking in Kanro's ring size and commissioning the best goldsmith in Asakusa. Sadly, I think Benimaru is awful at keeping secrets when they're related to Kanro. Kanro knows what's up an hour after Benimaru commissions the goldsmith. He plays along however and patiently waits for Benimaru to propose.
Their proposal is the least romantic (according to Maki). Benimaru gets the ring. His plan is to propose to Kanro in the afternoon when the sun is the highest in the sky. However a combination of nerves and incidents Only Kanro Can Solve (TM) arise which leads Benimaru flopped in their shared futon, face pressed into a pillow, wondering where he went wrong. Kanro walks in, sits beside him and after massaging his back, asks Benimaru, "Are you going to give me my ring or not?"
8. Their wedding is a traditional Shinto wedding. Everyone in Asakusa celebrates and festivities last for days. Benimaru at the end of each evening lights fireworks in the sky and all of them are more beautiful than the last. (Benimaru does, in fact, cry during the ceremony but will Deny it if anyone brings it up.)
9. After the fire the heartbreak over Kanro nearly dying and now unable to use his fire powers crushes Benimaru. How can he face the man he loves when all he can see is the result of his own failures? How can Benimaru hold Kanro when even touching his shoulders causes immense pain? How can Benimaru sleep beside Kanro when he's woken consistently at night due to Kanro's pained cries?
Answer: He can't. Benimaru cannot handle it. Guilt, sorrow, frustration, rage, bitterness... they all well up inside him until it's a dark maw ready to consume him. No matter how much fire power Benimaru can produce or manipulate, darkness is too strong.
This weight causes Benimaru to distance himself from Kanro, try to squirrel his heart away. He's unable to fully do it. Benimaru still tends to Kanro and helps him, but the ease they had before is in tatters. Even once Kanro heals, this wedge remains. No one blames the other but neither know how to breech the subject. That's when Company Eight bursts in, solve the problem that arises in Asakusa, and helps Benimaru regain his confidence and shed his guilt.
10. After Company Eight leaves Asakusa Benimaru goes to apologize to Kanro. For the first time in a long while Benimaru feels fear. He's so certain Kanro will reject him and finally move on. Instead Kanro pulls Benimaru into a hug. Kanro is the kind of person to never blame someone. His kindness breaks Benimaru and for the first time in a long while he cries.
11. Company Eight (read: the kiddos) don't know the two are married. Benimaru and Kanro can set aside their professional and private lives with ease. However, their closeness is natural and Company Eight (read: the kiddos) cannot help but notice. Romance Connoisseur (TM) Maki notes their "closeness" and talks to Iris, Shinra, Tamaki, and Arthur about "getting Captain Shinmon and Lieutenant Kanro together". They're all gun-ho and discuss plans so loudly that Obi and Hinawa overhear. Now, Obi and Hinawa (who are married in my mind) just Know (TM) that Kanro and Benimaru are married. Do they stop this? No. It's Hilarious.
12. Cue the Company Eight kids doing everything in their power to try and get Kanro and Benimaru to have "quality time" together. Kanro immediately Gets what the kids are doing and thinks it's Adorable. Benimaru is too dense. It takes a solid two weeks before Benimaru takes note and with a half exasperated/confused tone asks, "Why are you trying so hard to get me together with my husband?"
Which is immediately the Wrong option because now he's Swarmed with Questions and Congratulations (as if he and Kanro just got married). When he doesn't answer "Properly" (according to Maki) they pull Kanro into the mess.
13. Company Eight insists they have a celebration for the two and Benimaru who can secretly-not-so-secretly not say "no" to the Company Eight kids agrees. It's Wild but fun. The kids all chip in to buy a gift for them and Benimaru swears he wasn't in the verge of tears.
14. (Also as a spicy bit this revelation regarding their relationship makes the kiddos Blush when they remember the calendar. How Kanro managed to sneak up on Benimaru in the nude without him noticing takes on a whole other meaning. The kids cannot look them in the eye for a week afterwards.)
15. Kanro is the best at remembering dates and every year he plans a small anniversary celebration. It's small, just the two of them. Benimaru, however, is surprisingly the best gift giver. It's because he's perceptive and thoughtful.
16. Benimaru's secret favourite thing about Kanro is how warm he is when they're in bed together. Kanro drapes himself over Benimaru and somehow Benimaru never overheats. If they can spare a moment in the morning together Benimaru loves lazing in bed and tracing the bridge of Kanro's nose.
17. Both Kanro and Benimaru are Tea Enthusiasts and the Authority on Tea Making and Drinking. Yes, their rules are enforced upon others. It's actually the true secret to why they're called a "Power Couple".

Iris!!! I have a question for you - i took some time away from kpop since 2020 (i got a bit obsessive with it to a point where it was interfering with my actual life. I didn't realize I was dealing with something and kpop was my escape)..Anyway I'm in a MUCH better headspace now and would like to get back into it little by little...any advice on this? Hi, anon! I'm a bit delayed with messages since I was on a work trip for the last week and still trying to get caught up. I gave this some thought over the last few days and have some advice:
Listen to everything like you're a stranger wandering around a bar alone. I recommend listening to a k-pop mix playlist without knowing the names of the groups in advance. Not knowing who you're listening to until the point of falling for them is essential. Just let the algorithm throw some shit and see what sticks.
I've learned over the years that there are TONS of great groups out there who haven't been promoted or even listened to by most of my k-pop friends. Relying solely on friends for music choices will always cut off a lesser known gem OR it'll poison the well against groups who are honestly the shit and have talents worth celebrating. I've encountered a lot of music fans who claim to be bored by k-pop and have only listened to one or two groups. That's 100% a personal choice. To me, they're someone who only eats cereal and claims to not be enthused for breakfast. Breakfast could be the most magical time of your day if you went to a buffet and got some eggs and bacon and savory goodness!
I'm still sad I fell into this trap in my first year as a k-pop fan (I was a VIP and Blackjack first). I found BIGBANG and 2NE1 on my own thanks to insomnia and being up too late, but I arrived at EXO's discography about 3 years late because of stupid fanwar shit. I learned and grew from that, which is why I now pitch discovering groups solo whenever you can. I found BTS at 2 AM in 2015 and didn't make a friend over them until I was already in for over a year. A lot of my faves have gone that way. I was the only person I knew who loved Dreamcatcher for at least 2 years and no one ruined that for me because I was too far up their ass for anyone to talk me out of it. Other groups I discovered and enjoyed largely alone: KARD, AOA, Boys Republic, 9Muses, 4Minute, FIESTAR (omfggg), and I'm sure that's not all of them.
The last Korean act I discovered alone was BIBI and I think I stimmed to KAZINO for about 3 hours on the first playthrough. I had my good headphones and that was a treasured experience that no one ruined. I know one person who listens to her and we've never talked about her music. Would I trade that track for a chance to have friends around to chat up something else? Hell no! lolll
I appreciate you sharing your circumstances of being away for a while because I think personal boundaries are essential in everything. There's a lot of pressure to participate in a lot of different facets of the community/fandom and the companies absolutely market with the aim of addiction in mind. But you can be a casual listener for most groups and be a hardcore fan to a few if you want. Let's be honest: unless you're rich, you can't afford to be a diehard fan of everyone and go to all the shows and buy all the stuff. The same is true for time. You may not have time to enjoy every piece of content a group puts out. That doesn't make you less of a fan no matter what anyone says. Ultimately, my faves don't know who I am. I have almost no impact on their life aside from a number on a spreadsheet. We're all ships passing in the ocean or however the phrasing goes; as a fan, I have to make decisions I can live with long-term.

And that's where it cuts off!! Looking back, I could have been way more specific. I think your world building for that fic is a stroke of genius. It was so visceral for me. The way you wrote Bucky's grief and his desire to just completely disengage with the world as he knew it gave me such an epiphany. I honestly started crying because his feelings were so powerful and overwhelming. Reader's helplessness made me emotional, too, because I've been there - watching somebody abandon themselves and knowing you can only do so much. And I've also been that person running away myself. I felt this crazy gratitude for the moment I was in, getting to read your fic, and Bucky's grief was so real to me that I was honestly also grateful I haven't experienced his pain. Sweet iris, reader's strength, the small town vibes, the washed up rockstar, the slow burn, the tension, Bucky's negative self-talk, the family that is and could have been... it made me feel the full spectrum of human emotion. Their love was so real and palpable and the history between them that you felt in every scene was disarming. It was so healing for me and I hope they ended up healing, too. God, I just love the fic and think you're amazing ❤️ anyways I think i've blabbed on long enough!!! Love you bones have a good day <3

Again congrats on the big 100!!! You’re smashing it my friend. To celebrate, I’d like to request a lil something for Commander Wolffe (shock I know) with the line of dialogue for inspiration being “best 2 out of 3?” Runaway with it as you so wish, be it a lil bit of romance or just him having a laugh with his brothers and/or general 😊
THANK YOU TJ! For some reason, this idea lodged itself in my brain for this prompt and absolutely WOULD NOT shake loose, so I give you...Wolffe...thumb wrestling. (Also my first attempt at a reader perspective, so hope it all reads well!)
You couldn’t believe he’d gone for it, and yet here you were. Wolffe had been pursuing you for weeks, and you’d turned him down every time, ticking down the list of reasons in your head why it was a bad idea. It’s a distraction. You’re a mechanic and he’s a commander. You’re in the middle of a kriffing war. The list went on and on, but he had been relentless. Finally, you’d figured out how to deter him, really thinking you were clever.
“Fine,” you’d said, and his normally knitted brows skyrocketed towards his military regulation haircut.
“Really?”
“You can buy me a drink...if you can beat me at thumb wrestling.”
Wolffe’s reputation as one of the sternest commanders in the GAR was well-known, and you were so certain he’d decline, never dreaming he’d stoop so low as a thumb wrestling match. And yet, here you were, palms locked together. And the worst part? You liked it.
You’d never been a hands person, not really. Shoulders, collar bones, abs, sure. But now, you were completely fixated on the way Wolffe’s massive hand dwarfed yours, warm and calloused fingers locked against your suddenly clammy digits as he waggled his thumb back and forth, waiting for you to slip.
“So, what do you drink when you go out?” he teases.
“Win and you’ll find out.”
“Just curious.” The grin on his face could only be likened to his namesake, wolfish. You roll your eyes.
“You’re stalling,” you accuse.
“You didn’t specify a time limit.”
“Be reasonable.”
“Let me buy you a drink.”
Since when did your hands sweat this much? You resisted the urge to break your grip and wipe your palm on your jumpsuit. You weren’t about to let this cocky bastard win. Absolutely not.
You jab at Wolffe’s thumb as a test, and he tries to pin yours, but he’s just a hair too slow. His thumb is thicker than yours, but yours is slightly longer. Your fingers are deceptively strong from hours spent prying tiny components loose in cramped spaces, at times only having enough room to grip and twist with your fingers. You are counting on that advantage as Wolffe finally strikes, his thumb slipping over your knuckles before you slide your thumb on top of his in a quick reversal. And then you pin it.
One…two…three.
You whoop, releasing his hand and immediately missing the warmth and his grip. He does well to hide his disappointment, only breaking his smile for a moment. You hate it, but you feel disappointment too, stretching out in your stomach like a Loth cat in the afternoon sun.
Wolffe stands, pushing his chair back against the wall where he’d pulled it from. “Fair is fair,” he grunts, and for reasons you can’t explain and will definitely examine later, you place a hand on his arm, causing him to lift his eyes to yours, pinning you down like you pinned his thumb moments before, one brown iris, one silver.
You shrug, attempting to keep your smile casual rather than eager as you ask, “Best two out of three?”

Litha Flower Crown Tutorial
Hello everyone!!! Litha is coming up and to celebrate, I’ve made a flower crown!! It’s fairly easy to make and easily customizable so I thought I’d share a tutorial with everyone since it’s a lot easier than it looks! Whether it’s for Litha, a different holiday, or even just for fun, I hope this tutorial is helpful for you. Here’s what the finished product looks like!
If you want to make one exactly like mine, here are the materials that you’ll need:
-2 pieces of wire
-electrical tape (or any kind of tape that won’t create a goopy mess- I used black)
-3 different colors of ribbon (I used super thin ribbon in pink, white, and yellow)
-5 types of (fake) flowers. For this particular crown, I chose pink, orange, white, purple and blue. The specific flowers I got were; Hyacinth (blue), Roses (orange/peach), Peonies (white), Lilies (pink) and Iris (purple)
-Scissors or wire cutters
Obviously you can substitute the colors, flowers and materials as needed- make it your own!!! The whole point is to have fun while making something awesome.
Some helpful hints:
-Get the flowers at Dollar Tree. $1 for a bunch of 5-6 flowers and they have a huge selection!
-I got the electrical tape at Home Depot. I believe it was around $1.50 and there were tons of colors.
-You can find the wire and ribbon at your local craft store. I got the ribbon for $.79 at Michaels, and there was a huge sale going on so it was even cheaper. The ribbon is super thin which is perfect for this project.
-If possible, use wire cutters to cut the flower stems as there is hard plastic and a thin wire. It’s possible not to (I didn’t), but if you can save your hands some pain and struggling you might as well :)
-If you don’t want to make a crown but still want to make something with flowers feel free to hang this up as a wreath!

Throughout making this flower crown, clear your head and think of summer and infuse your flowers with thoughts of the sun. If it helps, burn some incense, play some calming music, or say a spell while your flower crown is coming along. This is a time of protection and joy so envision these things as you work on your crown.
Now without further ado, let’s make our flower crowns!!

Start off with your two wires. You can either measure your head or eyeball it to get the correct size. If you plan on wearing anything bulky, like a hat or an intricate hairstyle, add a few inches or measure with it on. You don’t want your headpiece to be too small. I personally eyeballed it and checked it to my head before twisting the wires together. I made it a little loose (not too much) but enough to where it would stay on my head by itself.
As you can see, the shape doesn’t need to be perfect. As long as it’s in the general shape it will be fine. At this point you’ll want to take a small piece of tape, about 4 inches long (you don’t have to measure it) and wrap it tightly around the part where the wires are twisted together. You’ll eventually want to cover the entire wire in the tape, but do it in chunks so it’s easier and more manageable.
Once again, it doesn’t have to be perfect. This is just giving a base we can attach the flowers to. At this point, you’ll want to have the entire circle covered in tape. There shouldn’t be any kind of sticky residue anywhere, and you don’t want any pieces of tape ends sticking out. Nothing’s worse than getting sticky residue in your hair or on your clothes :(. At this point, set the circle down for a few minutes while we prep the flowers.
As stated earlier, if you have wire cutters this part will be slightly easier, but if not you’ll be 100% fine. Separate each flower and cut as far down as you can to leave a long stem. This will also account for any errors where the plastic and/or wire metal refuses to cooperate. Decide if you want to leave the leaves on or if you just want flowers. Personally, I like the look of leaves so I left them on the stems. There should be one leaf part to each flower, sometimes two depending on the type. Here is where you’ll decide if you want a specific pattern or how you want to add the flowers. I just did what I felt was right and looked the best, and went one flower type at a time. (All the roses first, then lilies, etc). There is no right or wrong way to decide on a pattern!!
At this point, I cut my three pieces of ribbon. I went flower by flower so I cut all the ribbon as I went along. I color coded it so pink was by the base of the flower, yellow was under the leaf, and white was at the end of the stem. You’ll want to double knot it tightly in the three different locations. Once again, there is no right or wrong way to do this as long as you feel it looks good and the flower won’t come off.
As you can see, you want all the flowers to go in the same direction. This is important. If you put them going different directions, the flowers will squish and clash and you’ll get frustrated trying to tie down flowers that are fighting you.
As you go along adding flowers, make sure to keep tying the previous ribbons in. This part is hard to explain but basically you’ll end up wanting the ribbons to be flat against the circle just like the stems. This will help make everything look neat and you won’t have random ribbons hanging every which way. Keep adding flowers how you want.
You can see more of what I’m talking about with the ribbon in this picture. By now your flower crown should be shaping nicely. Keep adding flowers, tying ribbon and shaping your crown. You can obviously stop whenever you feel your crown is complete.
After completing the flower crown, feel free to enchant it with a spell if you haven’t already and want to, or put it in the sun so it can absorb the rays and infuse with the suns energy.

Thoughts while listening to ZSJL the second time:
Intro/Part 1: “Should be called “The Amazons””
1. Philippus got the first line of ZSJL (“Alert the Queen!”), unless you count Clark going “URRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH” fifty times, or the Amazons going “OOH-AHH! when the motherbox first goes off.
2. Bruce “Vain” trolololol you probably think this movie’s about you, don’t you, don’t you
3. I wish they did more with Lois in this movie. I was pretty happy with what they gave to Iris and Elinore and the Amazons, but Lois did seem pretty stuck in her “mourning for Superman” mode. Which, okay. But also, ehh.
4. Also I only know Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds from that one Harry Potter scene.
5. Has anyone actually counted how many times the Ancient Lamentation Music™ shows up.
6. Why does Wondy’s theme have a cooler synth in this movie than in her movie that’s literally set in the 80s.
7. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Hippolyta? I should mention it more often. She deserves good things (better things than this damn universe seems to want her to have :P).
8. I love that Menalippe is the one calling the Amazons back to their marks. That’d be Antiope’s job if she were here :(
9. Damn even the Amazons get a cool synth theme.
10. But it really is interesting that Junkie XL went with a synth instead of just a straight-up orchestral sound, or even the more tribal sound he seemed to be going for in other parts.
11. I appreciate that the Amazon fighting sounds aren’t like… you know. How most female fighting sounds are in media.
Part 2: “Artemis needs her own movie”
12. I don’t like Steppenwolf’s voice
13. God I’m so glad they got rid of all the Joss lines :P
14. You’d think after 100 years in Man’s World, Diana would have some better excuses up her sleeve e.g. “I sat inside reading a book all weekend” or “I watched a vintage TV show” like God, Diana. Do better.
15. Every time they say “quarantine” in this movie I feel things I’m not supposed to feel.
16. I still don’t get the Aquaman song when he’s taking off his shirt. It just… is a weird fit.
17. I’m glad we got an Aquaman movie before this. It… would’ve been confusing without it. Like, who’s this random long-haired dude.
18. “Dessad, Dessad, I call to thee” is how I start Zoom calls now.
19. I really like Dessad’s voice. It just… it’s nasally enough to be, oh so it’s this character. You just know who he is from the moment he speaks.
20. I dislike WonderBat very strongly but like. Ehh. I get that people like it, and it’s more canon-supported than any of my ships, that’s for sure.
21. I kind of wish we’d gotten the scene where the Amazon turns into a parademon. Or whoever it was.
22. Just listening to the movie makes me realize how grunty Darkseid is. I wish he had some language (maybe he is speaking Apokoliptian? And I’m just uneducated?).
Part 3: “Ray Fisher needs to do audiobooks”
23. I think Barry/Iris’ song is the first one I felt like the pop song really worked with the scene.
24. The football scene was the first part in the movie where I was like, okay the soundtrack is pretty good. It’s not as strong or memorable as Hans Zimmer’s on the last two Snyder DC films, but it does a reasonably good job supporting the film.
25. Ray Fisher has such a beautiful voice.
26. The whole Cyborg sequence is one of my favorite things ever. 2nd or 3rd favorite scene after the Speedforce.
27. I don’t have a lot of patience for Barry, in general. He’s less awkward than in the Josstice League, but he’s still on thin ice.
28. I feel like Arthur’s background scenes are the weakest overall. It might be because we got an entire Aquaman movie, but I also feel like I would’ve been really confused if I hadn’t seen that movie first.
Part 4: “Exposition and stuff”
29. There’s really not a lot of dialogue in this movie. Like. A LOT of things are just visual storytelling. It makes just listening to the movie interesting.
30. Okay, but did anyone else think that Martha Kent had a stronger Southern accent in her scene with Lois? Like, I know it’s someone trying to do his best impression of a Kansas farmer, but... like, sometimes in the past movies she’ll have a slight Midwestern twang, but it’s never quite Southern, and it’s throwing me off.
30. I… get that Superman is like the big deal but it really doesn’t make sense to me that the Apokoliptians never came back in the 5000ish years that Superman WASN’T active. I mean he was only Supermanning for what, less than two years? You literally have a 5000 year-old warrior on your team, I wonder how we can utilize that time frame in a way that make more sense... :P
Part 5: “But what if I don’t care about Superman”
31. I just feel like the part where they’re bringing Superman back is the most boring part lol

33. I’m curious what the point was of Aquaman pushing against waking up the Motherbox and Bruce pushing back. Like. Does anything come from that.
34. Okay. This is 1.5 years of writing the Goddess of Death talking, but I kind of strongly dislike that they brought Clark back like this instead of doing the honorable thing and actually going to the Underworld to beg for him back. Like. The JL honestly deserved to get their assess kicked for trying to cheat Death like that. Also it would’ve been cathartic for Arthur’s “no one getting back without trading one in return” line to come into fruition with Bruce dying and then Clark getting his memories back immediately afterward when Lois appeared. Take that Batman

Part 6: “The Flash scene”
37. Honestly, am I the only one who doesn’t care about Superman? He’s a side character in this movie. Give me more Cyborg scenes. He just lost his father for God’s sake. Why didn’t we get the scene of Victor figuring out how to get the plane to fly?
38. Although, I have to say when Supes shows up it’s a fun fight. Did he have to punch Steppenwolf so many times tho. It’s fucking brutal.
39. I have no complaints about anything. Forget everything I ever said. This Flash scene. God.
40. Oh good, Cyborg is back. Let’s stay with this guy for a bit. He’s neat.
41. I love that Arthur and Diana both got their dues for Steppy attacking/tormenting their respective peoples.
42. A Hall of Justice/recap scene would’ve been nice. Like we didn’t actually get to see all six of the League just sitting together (eating pie at Ma Kent’s diner) and celebrating.
43. I’m so glad the outro is Silas instead of Lois. It just feels right.
44. I actually prefer Henry Allen’s “Look at you go” line to the “His foot’s in the door” bit. Don’t tell anyone I said that

47. Why does the fake Luthor have such a Joker-esque laugh.
48. I don’t actually care about the Joker. Maybe if I did, then I would care about this scene.
