An ask game for writers to procrastinate working on you WIP(s)
🖍️ Post Any sentence from your wip
"How much longer do you think you can keep this up, Scott?"
"No idea. For when's the next apocalypse scheduled? According to statistics, it's my turn to bite it this time. Then at the latest, I'll stop clogging your treatment calendar."
This is from the first actual new scene I wrote for "Weathered II", aka the continuation of my X-Men main verse that I finally want to tackle this year. In this, we meet Hank and Scott about 18 years after the first X-Men movie. The constant containment of Scott's mutation with the help of his quartz shields has led to more frequent and more excruciating migraine attacks by the year, and by now, Hank's hooking him up to a painkiller drip every week to keep the whole shit under control. Which they are both not happy about, there's not really a solution in sight though that Scott will consider. So there's another tiring and unpleasant discussion in the school principal's office every other week.
♻️ A scrapped idea for your current WIP
"Weathered II" was originally set to be much more OC centric. I had a whole bunch of original young mutants that were set to become future X-Men team members, among them a vampiric mutant, a girl who can control electric energy, a girl who gets reincarnated and can physically turn in all those former lives, all kind of stuff really. But when I translated and edited "Weathered I" last year, I realized, there's still far too many stories I want to tell about the original movie canon characters for that. So I scraped pretty much all of these roles in the plans, giving their scenes to either canon characters or the remaining OCs aka Scott's and Logan's daughter respectively. Other OCs were replaced by newly incorporated canon characters like Synch or were turned to semi-canon characters aka children of canon characters like Angel's and Betty's son. By that, the whole story set two decades after the original movies will not only be easier on the eye for people who don't like OCs, but I can also deepen the characterization and development of the original movie characters I love so much. The scraped notes, already existing scenes and character sheets for the original plans have of course been saved, and when I have next time and spoons, I might turn those into a whole different side series in this verse as a self-indulgent project. But first, I want to tell the story of the Brotherhood taking over New York and another - the last - Phoenix crisis.
have not written a single thing in months... tbh i've barely been on tumblr either so it's insane being back but i'm really hoping i can get back into writing
The first things that come into my mind when I consider your blog are 'wattpad protagonist(affectionate)' and 'lesbian' in that very particular order so here, have this.
Frodo - this is really the same in books or movies, tbh. he’s someone I love and have historically identified with a lot.
4. Which scene always makes you cry?
movies: Sam and Frodo on the slopes of Orodruin. Every fucking time. you get the brass coming in with the theme from “Into the West” and fuck me I’m sobbing like a baby
books: “Im Narvi hain echant”.
8. Favorite character?
movies: gotta be Frodo, tbh. he was someone who held as a kind of role model for a lot of my early adolescence and late childhood, because he put up with a lot of shit and just kept going. book!Frodo and movie!Frodo are very different characters (tbh I feel like they’re just different expressions of Having Mental Health Problems but still the same core character but that’s another post) and yet movie!Frodo edges out for me as someone I like a lot.
books: I am EXCLUDING SILM CHARACTERS FROM THIS LIST because otherwise we’d be here for six hours while I talked about Elrond and how awesome he is. Elrond. Elrond is the real answer. in the books other than Elrond my favorite character is Aragorn. fuck I love that guy. he’s a really phenomenal High King in the vein of Tolkien’s best High Kings.
you can probably tell from my ao3 lmao... i have a real soft spot for finrod felagund, though i also really enjoyed writing about fingolfin!
17. fics you’ll continue next year
uh... oh right, that lay of leithian poetry wip i haven’t updated or written a word for since september. don’t worry, it’s not abandoned! also, i’ve got a lament for gondolin in the works, although it’s very bits-and-pieces-y atm (that post about “[cool scene] ???? [cool scene] ???? [cool scene] ???” that’s what it is). then i’ve got to finish editing the finrod&celebrimbor fic, but hopefully that gets done before the new year... and does my gildor=finrod au count if i haven’t written anything for it yet?
23. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
oho, so here’s where the gildor=finrod au goes. hmmm... also, i wanted to do finweanladiesweek, but calculus kind of got in the way... also more fingolfin stuff. probably to do with fingon or his epic challenging-satan-to-single-combat action! hm. maybe i’ll get to those. someday
24. favourite fic you read this year
Build Up a New Us by @foxindarkness! it is SO good!!!!
dear fellow traveler by @raisingcain-onceagain!!! every so often i read this fic again and every damn time i cry my damn eyes out
Invested by LiveOakWithMoss! the entire series is sweet, funny, angsty, and generally excellent!!
Acknowlegements, also by LiveOakWithMoss! i admit i have a weakness for academia in fic...
EDIT: i can’t believe i forgot to list @crownlessliestheking’s fic the chain that snaps!!! that piece makes me SCREAM
thank you!! [shuffle music and pick your favorite lyrics]
“Too close to call” by Waylon Jennings
“I have watched my mind dance too close to the edge
As I stood among the crowd to see it fall
Sometimes now I cling to what I hope is sanity
I stagger on this fine line that I walk
And wonder is it just too close to call”

Weird Questions for Writers
4 - Answered here <3

10 - Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
I guess, in a way? Long before I became the part time manager of some German celeb a while back, I wrote some fanfiction thing about him because he’s hot. After working together for a couple of years, he and I then parted ways in a really bad way, so I couldn’t even deal with the thought of having that piece of writing still on my PC. Since I don’t want to throw anything I write though, I finally just replaced the guy with some other celeb who has a similar career just for my piece of mind, and now it’s okay.
There’s also the prophetic writing I used to talk about in an earlier post. Pieces often come back to haunt me when I realize I wrote out something that happened in one way or another in real life then, specifically enough to know it’s not chance. But hey, so far I live, so I guess I’m at least one of my most tortured characters.
25 - What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
Cat knows every word of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home by heart.
39 - What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
That’s something that doesn’t happen to me, fortunately. Writing is what keeps me alive. Publishing on the other hand, the work that comes with that? Yeah, that is a regular crisis as a niche author. But luckily I have a handful of readers who encourage me in such moments.

Rules: write the latest line from a wip and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post!
For all the horrors they had faced since those ancient days, still the light of Aman and the kindness of his kindred shone through at times, and Fingon found himself glad.
8. Do you prefer happy, bittersweet, or sad endings?
It honestly depends on the story and what fits it. But I tend to like bittersweet endings, because I’m literary like that (and also I’ve seen some things in life and no one gets out of it unmarked), lmao
17. Are there any tropes you wish were used less often?
I’m honestly oddly live and let live about this. If I don’t like something I just don’t read it. But if I’m getting picky, less elves getting injured inherently worse than humans with no logical explanation; abusive thranduil fics; and ignorant dwarves.
19. if you could be a part of any story, which story would you want to tag along in?
This is entirely out of my main fandom, but I’m obsessed with Wizarding Britain and I kind of just want to run a shop in Hogsmeade or be Newt Scamanders sidekick, idk. This is not a story, I suppose, but a vibe.
But if we’re sticking with tolkien, the hobbit, because I am desperate to prove that one of the sleeping guards was Legolas 🤷🏼♀️
