IB Chemistry Internal Assessment Tips: Strategies for Success
While choosing a relevant and manageable topic is crucial to the success of the IB Chemistry Internal Assessment, it can be challenging to come up with a topic that meets the requirements of the task.
To help you get started, here are some ideas for IB Chemistry Internal Assessment topics:
1. Investigating the effects of pH on the rate of reaction between acid and base
This topic involves investigating how the pH of the reaction mixture affects the rate of the reaction between an acid and a base. Students can use different concentrations of acid and base and measure the time it takes for the reaction to occur at different pH values.
2. Determining the enthalpy change of a reaction using calorimetry
This topic involves using calorimetry to determine the enthalpy change of a chemical reaction. Students can use different reactants and measure the heat of the reaction to calculate the enthalpy change.
3. Investigating the effect of concentration on the rate of reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid
This topic involves investigating how the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects the rate of the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid. Students can measure the time it takes for the reaction to occur at different concentrations of acid.
4. Determining the molar mass of an unknown compound using freezing point depression
This topic involves using freezing point depression to determine the molar mass of an unknown compound. Students can measure the freezing point of a solution of the unknown compound and a known solvent and use the change in freezing point to calculate the molar mass.
5. Investigating the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction between hydrogen peroxide and catalase enzyme
This topic involves investigating how the temperature of the reaction mixture affects the rate of the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and catalase enzyme. Students can use different temperatures and measure the time it takes for the reaction to occur.
6. Determining the amount of vitamin C in fruit juice using titration
This topic involves using titration to determine the amount of vitamin C in a sample of fruit juice. Students can use a standard solution of iodine to titrate the fruit juice and calculate the concentration of vitamin C.
7. Investigating the kinetics of the reaction between iodine and propanone in acid solution
This topic involves investigating the kinetics of the reaction between iodine and propanone in acid solution. Students can measure the rate of the reaction at different concentrations of reactants and use this data to determine the rate law for the reaction.
8. Investigating the effect of concentration on the equilibrium constant for the reaction between iron (III) ions and thiocyanate ions
This topic involves investigating how the concentration of reactants affects the equilibrium constant for the reaction between iron (III) ions and thiocyanate ions. Students can measure the concentration of reactants and products at different equilibrium positions and use this data to calculate the equilibrium constant.
9. Determining the rate law for the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and iodide ions
This topic involves determining the rate law for the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and iodide ions. Students can measure the rate of the reaction at different concentrations of reactants and use this data to determine the rate law and rate constant for the reaction.
10. Investigating the effect of temperature on the solubility of salt in water
This topic involves investigating how the temperature of the solvent affects the solubility of a salt in water. Students can measure the solubility of a salt at different temperatures and use this data to determine the enthalpy of solution for the salt.
Conclusion
The IB Chemistry Internal Assessment provides an excellent opportunity for students to investigate and experiment with a wide range of topics related to the IB Chemistry syllabus. With the above ideas for IB Chemistry Internal Assessment topics, students can choose a topic that interests them and that they feel confident about investigating. The Monster Hunter x Arknights crossover event is super cute and 80% cat puns (by mass), which is great, but I am having the best time clearing the early levels with the dumbest comps.
Like, nothing by vanguards and phalanx casters. Who needs operators that can attack by default? Not I!
Next up, send in the interns! Why can I send interns into a live combat environment? Who knows? Not the Doctor, that's for sure.

I'm rewatching atla right now and i have THOUGTS.
When the 100 year war ends, i assume lots of historians research the causes and various important battles and whatnot. But because i'm unable to stop myself from making WWII comparisons, i'm going to toss out that maybe it's a similar situation, where everyone blames fire lords sozin, azulon and ozai without looking at more nuanced causes.
And then i'm imagining an AJP Taylor figure who comes along and goes Uh, maybe not? And that this guy really examines the role of earth kingdom and northern water tribe isolationism and avatar roku and the rise of nationalism at the heart of the fire nation. I also imagine there being backlash to this as the other nations don't want to admit their involvment and that painting the fire lords as inhuman monsters makes the whole thing a lot simpler.
Point being, i really want to write historical articles and interviews from the perspective of historians after the war and the academic drama surrounding the causes of it. Cringefail academia fanfic, if you will

On International Women's Day I would like to briefly refer to the ladies of the Gintama series. Because while it's okay to admit the good things, you also need to admit the not-so-good things.
I recognize that Sorachi writes women well within the Shonen genre. However, this genre is notorious for the poor portrayal of women. So making it above average doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
An example of what I mean within the series is found in Dekobokko arc. I found the resolution to the sexism of the male cast lacking. The guys were acting like they thought women were, pretty stereotypical, for the arc's conclusion to say that gender isn't important. And while the men could see how amazing the women were, there wasn't a moment when they stopped to reflect on what they thought women were like. That was just for Kyuubei to realize that she was a they at the time (as confusing as that sounds lol). In general, the female cast didn’t have as many moments to shine compared to the male cast.
Outside of the series, this is noticeable, for example, in popularity polls, in which the men always far outnumber the women (also influenced by the fact that there are more male characters). This is why very often the merchandise features only the male cast + Kagura. Also, within the fandom it’s relatively common to see hate being thrown at a female character for shipping reasons.
It’s important to recognize what should be recognized, but at the same time remain critical of what one consumes... and give love to the female cast! 🌺
