Finally gathered up the courage to post this!! I had a major autism moment and reimagined Dragonforce's current members as WOY characters! This is my first finished piece with a background in a LONG time.
There's so much I can say about my process... and that's why I'm gonna do that below!!
Tumblr media
This is the original concept lineup!! From left to right: Herman Li, Sam Totman, Marc Hudson, Gee Anzalone, and Alicia Vigil (they'll have silly woy-i-fied names eventually I just gotta think of em)
Herman and Sam are the only dragons in this lineup since they're the only ones that've been there since the beginning! they're also kind of the founding members of dragonforce lol
Herman's design is heavily based on DF's mascot! I forgot his name but he's this super awesome metallic dragon who tells jokes
I'm a bit sad I didn't get to show off Sam's golden teeth in the final image, but they're there because, in the band he was in before co-founding Dragonforce, he was known as Heimdall, a Norse god that had golden teeth himself. (Or maybe they just reflect this WoYified Sam's addiction to Thunder Blazz.)
Marc's design was somewhat inspired by one alien design in their "Troopers of the Stars" shirt, hence the eye shape, pink shirt, and mouth scar! I picked that character specifically since it's the one with a speech bubble saying some of TotS's lyrics-- fitting since he's the vocalist!
I had a few ideas in mind for Gee. Originally, he was gonna be a tree monster with several arms and bushy (literally) hair, but I decided to go with a fluffy, cuddly demon vibe instead
I knew I was gonna give Alicia some kind of jellyfish motif ever since I looked at some of the hats she's worn. I even included some references to the Portuguese Man o' War since she's the lead singer/bassist of her own band, Vigil of War!

Speculative oc ask: is there any inspiration you’d really love to use for an oc, but haven’t had a chance yet? (Ie: a species of deep sea invertebrate youd love to design an oc off of)
Oh absolutely!! Here's some guys from my inspo folder :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are a ghost pipefish, crocodile longtom, saddled bichir, and false killer whale in order
I'd also love to make a big leviathan off of a portuguese man o war!! :]

How about 10, 20, and 29 for the iteration asks!!!
10. The utroms 💀 ok I have not put enough thought into them for how relevant they are going to be BUT. I do want them to be inspired by siphonophores, specifically the portuguese man o’ war (my beloved). How this is translated with utrom! April is still to be decided, but the idea of a human shaped colonial organism is very interesting to me!! I should update her design….
20. Unfortunately I am not sending their asses to space (yet). HB Leo would be too powerful up there and destroy everyone with her sheer space autism rizz. Rare W for her.
29. THERE IS NO RENET YET AND IT HAUNTS ME!!!! One day……..

Hey, i'm curious, in my opinion wishiwashi and it's ability are one of the most creative in pokemon, so if you could make a new pokemon with ability like this, what would it be and what the group form would look like?
I agree! I think Schooling is a very creative ability. I actually have created a Fakemon following this train of thought so I'm glad I have visuals ready to show you!
Tumblr media
These are Aerowar (not to scale)! A Poison/Flying type inspired by the Portuguese Man o' War. I thought siphonophores, being these sort of colonies of smaller zooids to put it simply, worked really well conceptually with the Schooling ability. I took them out of the ocean into the air since I thought it would make for a more interesting visual, making them sort of like massive zeppelin-like Pokemon.
If you wanna read more about them you can check out my Fakemon dex entry here!

a gal inspired by blue dragon nudibranchs! i wanted to make her look less nice but its,,,,,, hard to convey "nice looking but its all fake she'll fucking kill you" in a still image (and also i just wasnt planning on her having a personality at the start so the pose doesnt fit lmao)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^^ blue dragons, or glaucus atlanticus (or sea swallow, or blue glacus, or blue angels-) are some of the first nudibranches i ever truly heard of, and are thus relatively special to me. they can be found in tropical and subtropical waters across the world, and they move by floating on their backs- they've got an air bubble in their stomach that helps them float! they do this to camouflage- one of their sides is made to disguise them from predators above, and the other side to disguise from those below. they primarily live in the open ocean, and only rarely are blown ashore. when they are blown ashore, however, be warned- these little stinkers can eat the portuguese man o' war, and take their sting to use for themselves. they can land you in a hospital, if you have a bad enough reaction. so terrifying. so fucking goregous. 10/10 creatures.

Do Jellyfish exist?
You may be aware that taxonomy can become very convoluted and often arbitrary, for example the idea that fish don't really exist. For my second jellyfish fact of this account I would like to talk about the strange and wonderful taxonomy of jellyfish!
For the most part, jellyfish exist within the clade of Medusozoa, which is a subphylum of Cnidaria. Cnidaria is a group of animals characterized by their stinging cells, called nematocysts, their gelatinous bodies, and their decentralized nervous systems. Some other animals within Cnidaria you may know are corals and sea anemones.
Animals within Medusozoa don't actually spend their whole lives as jellyfish. Their life cycle includes a polyp stage, where they are more similar to corals and sea anemones. As polyps they attach to the sea floor and have their mouths and tentacles at the top of them to catch and eat food. Eventually these polyps grow up into their medusal stage, which is when they really become jellyfish.
Medusozoa has three main classes: scyphozoa, hydrozoa, cubozoa, and staurozoa.
Scyphozoa is the class known as "true jellyfish." If you're a jellyfish purist you could claim only the animals in this class are actually jellyfish. This group contains most of the classics: moon jellies, sea nettles, lion's mane jellyfish, etc.
Hydrozoa is interesting because not all organisms in this class have a medusal stage. Organisms such as Hydras spend their whole life in polyp stage without ever going into a medusal stage. In their polyp stage, hydrozoans are known as hydroids. Siphonophores such as the Portuguese Man O' War are an order within Hydrozoa and form into colonies of individuals in both polyp and medusal forms. Some hydrozoans do become medusal though, such as the freshwater jelly or the immortal jellyfish. There is no true answer on which, if any, hydrozoans count as jellyfish.
Cubozoa are box jellyfish, and also happen to be the inspiration for my queue tag. They are distinguished by their cube shaped bells. Box jellyfish can have extremely potent venom in their stings which can be fatal to humans if not treated in time. Box jellyfish also have the more complex nerve systems than other jellyfish. Some jellyfish in scyphozoa and cubozoa have very simple light sensors, but one species of box jelly, Tripedalia cystophora, have eyes equiped with retinas, corneas, and lenses.
Staurozoa are the stalked jellyfish. I'll admit I don't really know much about these guys, but they seem to be far less common than the other guys. They are one of the least studied groups in cnidaria.
Now what about jellyfish that aren't jellyfish? Comb jellies are often lumped in with jellyfish but they actually exist in an entirely separate phylum, Ctenophora (Ctenophora actually only includes comb jellies). Comb jellies are recognizable by their rows of cilia they use to move that often create rainbow patterns when diffusing light. Instead of nematocysts like regular jellyfish, comb jellies use colloblasts, which sting to their prey instead of stinging them.
And wow I have talked a lot. Sorry for the essay I hope it was informative and fun. Here is a nice diagram off of Wikipedia, which shows details I wasn't even able to get to here.

All of the information here either comes from my prior knowledge or wikipedia.

whalefall dnd setting? please tell me more
OK HOLY SHIT. so im very autistic about the ocean and one of my hobbies is getting sad, watching fish documentaries and thinking about how i would stat up a fucking nudibranch or a portuguese man o war as a dnd enemy. which is kind of where the idea for the setting spawned for
right now im calling the setting #benthopelagia, this is the same as the tag i use for posting and for collecting inspiration
basically um so ive drawn a buncha maps of islands andstuff and theres a buncha nations.. yassez is the one ive. yknow. actually populated so far. the other 3 plotrelevant ones are isthmus and polonge (isthmus has claimed territory in polonge and fully occupies yassez). polonge is also at war with geuzi. fontaine has a treaty with geuzin. jicama and selenia are fighting over a strip of coast. danovsk is also fighting jicama over a pass thru the mountains. branthia is waiting on the sidelines ready to do very important Peacekeeping such as Supplying Weapons to insurgent terrorist cells.
>>GEOPOLITICS OVER read from here if u dont caare<<
theres a buncha.. buncha fake religions like cetaceanism (whale), currentism (its like breatharianism but it works bc its for filter feeders), integism (science cult), medusaism (jellyfish), The Really Big Human (a la dark souls gwynevere but an old man) Who Sits Above The Surface And Fishes Out The Cave Fish (only in ohio). i think in cetaceanism magnapinna are like. the devil.
theres a clan of nomadic humanoid orca that believe theyre demigods and run around fucking shit up. theres the shark mob from shark tale around the main coral reef settlement (barriertown/the shelf) called "reefers" who are pulling an hp lovecraft innsmouth on the landlubbers of port saiyon cause they keep coming on to land in order to steal electricity for their weed hydroponics.
theres a couple hydrothermal vents which are culturally the same as oil rigs
OVER TO THE WHALEFALL PART bc thats actually what you asked, theres a whalefall settlement which in a perfect world would be where i would start my players off. its like a small rural industry town thats slowly dying as resources get depleted. heavily cetaceanist but a sect of cetaceanism that think its ok to eat your gods. big whalers guild presence, and basically one quest would be to um. go kill another whale so we can Eat, please.
another quest start ive been ruminating on would be the PCs start on land and get mariners revenge'd to the bottom of the ocean.
theres also like - theres a trench? where there didnt used to be a trench? and people are like. man what the fuck. and in addition to that basically all contact with things on the other side of that trench - the whole opposite hemisphere actually - are just Not Coming, until weeks later they all come at once? so like whats actually happening is the core of the earth is hollow, but the core of that core is incredibly dense and this is called the unsigned (after unsigned integer overflow error. funny joke for me. the unsigned is a concept of integism). and its trying to break out except theres a stitch that it cant break and its called the time stitch cause its fucking with time (sorry this is all very fucking. stupid iv not completed the development of it yet. if u cant tell)

...Not to say that a fakemon that's Normal/Ice, Normal/Rock, or Normal/Steel couldn't possibly be something cool. It's just that it would require solid inspiration and probably some internal lore, which needs to arise naturally rather than me trying to force it like a bowel movement. Look at my latest fakemon, Airlantic. You think I would have gotten "glaucus atlanticus airplane that sucks electricity from a portuguese man o war blimp" if my starting point was a Dragon/Flying typing?
Like I said, it's just something for me to keep in mind as new ideas coagulate. For now, the plan is a line of Ice/Fighting snow leopards and then a line of Ground/Fairy caecilians.

People I’d Like to Know Better!
Tumblr media
Alias / Name: Saya (you know, like from Saya no Uta)
Birthday: October 2nd
Zodiac Sign: Libra Sun, Virgo Moon, Scorpio Rising
Height: 5′
Hobbies: Reading, writing, drawing, video games, hiking
Favorite Color: Pastel pink, lavender, aqua
Favorite Book(s): The Nevermoor series, the Southern Reach Trilogy, Keeper of the Lost Cities (love-hate relationship with this one), Lolita, Kiki’s Delivery Service, the Temeraire series, Coraline, Alice in Wonderland
Last Song: A Little Place Called The Moon by Aurora
Last Movie / Show: The Owl House
Recent Read: Currently in the middle of ‘Black Powder War’ by Naomi Novik and ‘What Once Was Mine’ by Liz Braswell
Inspiration: Phi’s design was inspired by characters from the ENA series such as the titular Ena and the Shepherd, as well as Eve from No Straight Roads. Her personality was meant to be the opposite of a muse I had played for several years, because I just wanted something different.
Story behind your URL: Her name! I had contacted the DA user who initially suggested it for her, and neither of us could figure out why they came up with that name in particular. The closest thing I could get was the scientific name for the Portuguese man o’ war: Physalia physalis.
Fun Fact: I have more Scorpio placements in my chart than Snickers!
Tagged by: stolen from @get-dusted
Tagging: I’m pretty sure everyone else has done this already!

Top five animals in the ocean?
Oooh, now we're getting creative! I like it!
1. Sea Turtle
I have a sea turtle tattoo, actually... the first tattoo I ever got, and it's highly symbolic and deeply meaningful to me.
Tumblr media
Like the sea turtle, I may roam far and wide, but I will always return home when it is time. Also like the sea turtle, I am slow and awkward and ungainly on land, but graceful and powerful and free in the water. I was a competitive swimmer, lifeguard, and swim instructor for a long time, and the water remains to this day the only place I've ever felt truly at peace.
One of the top 5 things on my bucket list is to watch baby sea turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean. I really hope I'm able to do that someday.
(The plumeria on the turtle's shell represents my Tutu - my Hawaiian grandmother, who had plumeria trees growing in her yard and taught me how to make leis from the fragrant flowers. Plumeria will forever be one of my favorite flowers/smells.)
2. Dolphin
In addition to sea turtles, I was obsessed with dolphins as a kid/teenager. They were a huge special interest of mine for many years, and, like the sea turtle, they will always hold a special place in my heart. I got to swim with dolphins in Hawaii once... what a dream come true! (No dolphin tattoo, though... yet!)
3. Humpback Whale
Their song is one of the most beautiful, calming, awe-inspiring sounds in the world to me! If you haven't heard Humpback Whale noises before, give this a listen, or just search for it on your own!
4. Leafy Sea Dragon
They have a lot in common with their cousin the seahorse, but these little dudes evolved to look like aquatic plants. They are easily THE coolest-looking sea creature, imo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Glaucus Atlanticus (a.k.a. Blue Dragon)
They are technically sea slugs (?!), but they are very dangerous. Despite being quite smol, they have a very painful sting, and they spend their little lives inconspicuously floating around the ocean, chowing down on other dangerous sea creatures like THE PORTUGUESE MAN O' WAR JELLYFISH. 👀 Anyway, look at how gorgeous they are!

Through a lot of designing and redesigning I've created another set of aliens for my Don Bluth inspired concept "Galune".  Like before you have the main character Agatha at 1.7m for scale and each of the aliens are inspired by a mythical creature.
Starting at the top left is a Hydra, best describes as terrestrial, mobile sea anemone.  Right above it is a Fairy, a flying hexapod with characteristics of bats and insects.  On either side of Agatha is a Manticore and a Sphinx.  They're a sexually dimorphic humanoids with characteristics of cats and lion fish including poisonous spines hidden in their fins.  Both of their designs are actually inspired by an animated music video for Sia's song "Hey Boy".  At the far right is a Wll-o'-the-wisp, a floating, bioluminescent colony organism (similar to the Portuguese man o' war) that can extend it's tendrils to great lengths to appear as separate creatures to confuse predator and prey alike.  Right below it is a Kitsune.  Inspired in part by a brittle star, this radial species starts out with one, tail-like arm in it's center but grows more as it gets older until it has up to nine arms.  Finally at the bottom left is a "Werepire", inspired by both vampires and werewolves as the name suggests.  They have the ability to retract and extend their digits and mouth parts when needed.  In their retracted state they resemble vampires in a bipedal position.  In their exerted state they more resemble werewolves assuming a quadrupedal position.
I might do one more of these and all the designs are conceptual so they would either be changed or not used at all if "Galune" moves forward.
As always comments and critiques are welcome.
