i did have a similar thought tho to yours, in that the timeline somehow goes screwy and that tracy/shax are the same person, as well as the nuns with maggie and nina respectively, but i found too many loopholes... we'll just have to see!!!

my first day on tumblr in what feels like a week and i come back to a question that makes me want to ramble like a madman for DAYS. you are so sweet for sending this to me (and im sorry if this ends up being an essay you were not asking for). fun fact: i have had to rewrite my answer to this ask no less than 3 times bc every time i started talking, id go on a tangent about pirates that was in no way relevant to your ask. apologies for taking so long, but yes! here we go! im putting it under a read more bc i cannot for the life of me shut the fuck up.

i do have a pirate au!! maybe one day it will eventually end up seeing the light of day, but as of right now it is sitting in my google docs next to a 95-page doc of all the sources and fun facts and tidbits that i find interesting about pirates. pirates are kinda my thing, idk if thats obvious or not. insert marge simpson i just think theyre neat meme here.

essentially, its pirate!antonio and venetian-not-quite-nobleman!lovino. im still playing around with that venetian part, but idk ill probably keep it, since it makes sense with lovino's family and all that. the entire premise of the story (and what sparked the idea in the first place, apart from me just thinking antonio would look sexy in a pirate captain fit) is that one scene in the strips where romano is reading a history book about how spain spent a ton of money on him when he himself was in rags. we all know spain canonically showered romano in wealth and money, even when he himself was wearing tatters. that idea sat with me for YEARS before i decided to do my own spin on it, culminating in the characters of pirate captain antonio with a grudge against the world and too much to prove seeing bastard lovino who lives in a family of nobles and cannot have any of it, even if he is loved and adored by his family, and who just doesn't????? understand him????? doesnt get why he chose to stay with that family for so long????? without leaving that world behind and being free and cutting himself loose????? he doesnt get the familial attachments and the sense of responsibility lovino has to his family, even if he cannot and will not inherit the title that comes with the vargas name.

antonio ends up raiding their merchant ship they were sailing on and kidnapping him for money or something idk im still playing around with that part, and lovino is just this absolute mystery to him, but ofc this is antonio who is bullheaded in his stubbornness, which i find to be enchanting and cute, and thus we slowly get into the love story of two people who were fucked over tremendously by their societies and their worlds and who just wanted and tbh deserved more, something different, a freedom they would never be able to have in their average life.

smash-cut to however long later and the entire basis of the story is lovino 'i am surrounded by status and wealth and prestige and will have none of it to my name' vargas being adored and cherished by antonio 'love me and i will give you the world, love me and i will give you everything' fernández carriedo. bc!! i!!! think!!! thats!!! neat!!!!

anyway yeah thats kinda where the idea for it came from. i have a few spamano stories written, but i am shamefully lacking any historical hetalia, which is terrible considering history is my entire degree, but im getting there. i hope this in some way answered your ask!!! youre welcome to also hit up my asks or dms if you ever wanna just chat hetalia or anything else, since i too live for this wretched fandom, and have since i was like. idk 12. thank you so much for sending this! i love having an excuse to word vomit about my hyperfixations, and this story has been bouncing in my brain for a frankly disgusting amount of time, and i have only recently decided to put it to paper and make something out of it!

I will be posting the next chapter of The Threads That Bind tonight! It really kinda took on a life of its own when I started writing it, but I actually like how it turned out. It means so much to me that other people are enjoying it!

As for Arsenios, well... I have a lot of info on him lol. It just happened that he fit in with this story so I decided to include him because I am fond of him and I really wanted to write about him more. Being asked about him makes me sooo happy!

So to explain his power a little more, it was initially inspired by the concept of human musicians making a deal with the devil in exchange for musical talent. The ones who come out of nowhere and play amazingly well, but then die young tragic deaths. I figured it made sense that the demon who was making those deals would be good at music themselves and maybe their power was rooted in all things musical.

Arsenios spent a lot of time answering summons from humans that wanted to make deals to gain musical talent. He had to make pacts with them and in that way lent them his power in the form of skill. Of course, these were just regular humans and not immortal sorcerers, so they did inevitably die young, thus releasing Arsenios from whatever pact he had made with them. And of course he got their soul out of the deal.

Something really terrible happened to him, though, and changed his whole life, so he doesn't actually do that anymore. It happened some time after Lucifer and his brothers fell, but before MC showed up in the OG.

Now he mostly spends his time performing at gigs in various places throughout the Devildom. He's not super famous, just kind of a local musician, but he's busy enough that he needs a manager to book things for him. He only goes to RAD sporadically because of this and he only goes at all because Barbatos talked him into it.

He can choose whether or not to weave magic into his song and he rarely does it. But it is kind of like a siren song when he does do it. Depending on the intention, he can persuade people to do things. But it's kind of subtle, he was really going hard in The Threads That Bind lol. More often, he uses it as kind of a suggestion and he only needs a handful of notes. He can use instruments to do it, too, but because he often doesn't need much, he usually just sings.

I had him singing in what I called the "ancient language of demons" because I didn't wanna make up lyrics lol. But the lyrics can have an impact on the power of the song. For instance, if he sings in a language that the person being influenced can understand, it lingers a lot longer in their mind and can be more powerful. He's nervous about doing this to humans because he doesn't want to drive them mad by accident, so he sticks with demonic for them.

Arsenios could write entire songs that weave complex spells if he really wanted to, but he has no such ambitions, so he doesn't bother.

And you know it's so funny because I LOVE Solomon, but Arsenios only barely tolerates him and it is so fun to write. I think they could become friends eventually. Arsenios actually respects his power and he's secretly impressed by it, but good luck getting him to admit it lol.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to get so long! But I felt like some context was needed about where the idea for his power comes from. And of course I could write about him all day lol.

so bc i complain abt hating the series my faves are from im trying to think of why. so i can try and handle these problems

-dv: everything is so samey. the cafes always have the same characters, thats when i realized it. its what sells for the game too. angsty backstories where the mothers can never do wrong (even when they do), the attractive characters are always sexyman/sympathetic, and "ugly"er characters are always less sympathetic or villified. its so fucking boring. its like, if antonio and ricky weren't there it wouldn't be a thing id consume. itd be like, if i saw someone like geisha or wu chang on my feed id be like "oh neat" but nothing more than that. not to mention the fandom, their obsession with shipping and superficial things, and just their really like. "if you dont fit into xyz group i will harass you nonstop" nasty attitudes

g o: this one hurts the most but i feel like its just lost its magic to me. i skip events now more than not, i barely play except for logins. heck, like a "oh somewhat interesting" i will cling to bc its fucking hard to get invested in any character in this game. heck, this universe. they added a chaldean doctor character in the latest story and i just couldnt help thinking "why is her design so much more glitzy and showy than others and never given an in universe explanation". it just feels like it was a different game than i started playing. i played and followed this game for a fun, shenanigans story, but one that takes its characters, no matter who they are, seriously and its illustrators are allowed to give them love. now it just feels like a washed-up cash grab with no care for its characters except to generate more hype from a very selective audience. like i miss the funny sanrio collabs, the themed cafes with recent story characters, the lawson collabs? its just really....depressing i guess

g-f: i think the problem i have with this game is the same problem i have w a certain movie, the creators have too much of a bias against certain characters. like the fucking description will say "x smiled eeeevilly, theyre a villain, you cant like them wahhh" and its fucking pathetic. but its clearly whats making the big bucks and fan acclaim so theyre just doing more of it. that + the "oh player character you're so op" that happens in every event. esp the crossovers. i just feel bad for them bc they are such a bad representation of the actual series (coughcoughonepiececougcough). on ig a more serious note theres also the "funny character actually is funny bc of x trauma inserted to make them sexy" which is just despicable and disgusting on so many levels. i dont think it needs an explanation for why its awful but for some reason the fans love it

f-h: honestly this game is a really middle of the road meh one. i think its just meh. i dont like a lot of the "protagonist aligned" characters bc i find their actions really scummy and despicable (theres too many to name) but at the same time its still in bite sized enough pieces, and that kinda thing of supposedly sympathetic characters being nasty and uninteresting/uncompelling is mostly par for course for f-h tbh. i think if theres any big flaw its the fandom, but thats not necessarily the game itself. it is very influenced by the fandom unfortunately and "meme" interpretations unfortunately end up becoming canon (we dont talk abt the b2 retcon that was awful)

14. things you said after you kissed me

“I mean, crew boss whatever the fuck, you guys are my friends.” Trevor says, shrugging. He holds up his Red Bull in a toast. “If you guys are happy, then I’m happy for you.”

Jeremy nods, breathing a sigh of relief. He’s grateful not to have to have that talk with him. “C'mon, Gav.” He says, pulling him toward his room. “We’ve got a conversation to finish.”

And they do. Everything had escalated so damn quickly tonight, thanks to- well, beer, mostly. Kissing his best friend has sobered him up quickly, though. Jeremy can’t deny that he eants whatever he can get with Gavin, but he refuses to be yet another cliché. Hes already has ‘secretly pining for one of his best friends' down to a fucking tee. He doesn’t want to add ‘never established what is they are’ or ‘poor communication skills leading to quiet angst’ to the list.

As soon as Jeremy closes the bedroom door behind hinself, Gavin presses him against it. He barely has time to process the movement before Gavin cradles his face in his hands, slots their mouths together again.

There’s a- very specific- part of Jeremy that wants to continue on this trajectory, clichés be damned. They can figure it out in the morning, right? That’s definitely something they would do?

One of Gavin’s hands falls from his face, trailing down his torso until it hits his belt. And this is the make or break moment, either they do the mature, responsible thing and talk beforehand, or-

Or God only knows how they’ll end up.

Jeremy turns his head just enough to break the contact. “Gavin.”

Gavin pulls back to look down at him. He still has one hand on his belt. “Yeah?”

“I- I wasn’t lying when I said we had a conversation to finish.” Jeremy says honestly.

“Ah. And here I am thinking that was a euphemism.”

“Gav.” Jeremy puts the slightest amount of pressure on Gavin’s hips, pushing him away.

Gavin, to his credit, takes the hint immediately. He pulls his hand away from Jeremy’s belt, takes a full two steps back towards the bed. He holds his hands up in mock surrender. “Don’t take me sitting on your bed as anything.” He says with a smile, sitting innocently on the edge of the bed. “Just a comfortable place to have a conversation.”

Jeremy shakes his head, but can’t help to return the smile. “Fair play.” He takes a deep breath, holds it for a beat, two. It feels like so much is hanging in the balance. “Are we making a stupid choice here?” He’s still standing against the door, still won’t move closer to Gavin. He doesn’t quite trust himself.

Gavin doesn’t miss a beat. “Maybe.” he says simply. But he’s still got this bright smile, as if he knows some grand secret or something.

With a long sigh, Jeremy allows himself to walk over, sit beside Gavin on the bed. “I just think, you know, with the crew and all-” he shuts his eyes, trying to focus, and takes another deep breath. “If we date and break up, it would-”

“But what if we don’t?” Gavin says, as if it’s the easiest thing in the world.

“Gav-”

“Here’s the thing, Lil J.” Gavin cuts him off before he can argue. “You are one of my best damn friends. Nothing’s gonna change that.” Jeremy cracks one eye open to find Gavin watching him, that same knowing smile on his face. “If we give this a shot and it works,” Gavin reaches out, takes Jeremy’s hand in his. “That’s awesome. But if we…” he pauses, and only now does he look away. “If we sleep together and discover we hate it” he chuckles quietly, shaking his head. “Which I don’t see happening, honestly, well. You’re still my best friend.” Gavin’s eyes meet his. “No matter what happens, we’re not losing anything.” he says firmly.

“Right.” Jeremy says slowly. “And you just… know this.”

“You said it yourself. Uncanny ability.” he leans close, voice a whisper. “I know we could be great.”

Jeremy swallows, still infinitely more anxious than he wants to be. God, what if Gavin’s wrong about it all? What if Jeremy was right to never say anything about it?

But.

The fact of the matter is, he’s spent the last few years learning to trust Gavin’s instincts, even when they were so left field it felt like they came from another game entirely. And there’s something else, too. A feeling, deep in his stomach. They could be everything.

He leans toward Gavin, kisses him gently.

“I trust you.”

The look on Gavin's face alone is worth it all.
