I think it’s interesting that Solas has been awake for only a year of his long life. It’s interesting and it explains some things, I think. He has never been really awake before, ever ever, that whole long time. Arlathan was connected to the fade. After the Veil, he was still asleep - that is, he was still in the Fade. He never experienced hard “reality” until very very recently.

interestingly this means that by the time of inquisition, Cole has actually spent more time “awake” than Solas has 🤔

Solas has watched reality from the fade, where we are told many times and by him that your emotions shape what you see.

So the things that this realization explains to me:

It makes more sense why he would sound so surprised and delighted and horrified by things. He truly has never experienced this before, and is maybe experiencing it with a kind of sharpness he isn’t used to. I think he zigzags back and forth between hard denial of everything being real and “ooh look, the nugs have come out to spy the giants passing their home”

it could maybe explain some of his errors in judgment. Like Cole and Justice, he’s testing the waters of what it means to be awake, and he’s stepping on toes. Things that worked in the Fade don’t work here.

He was sooo comfortable in the Fade quest, like more than Cole. He also returns to the Fade in dreams as often as he can…. he’s really comfortable with his pov.

it makes sense now why his romance starts in the Fade, the place where he feels so at home that he isn’t on guard

it makes sense that romance in general would hit him differently when it takes place in reality. The question was “how could this romance mean anything if he’s so old and experienced- this is his first time doing any of it while really awake. It was real, he says, and it seems “real” has a new meaning to him by trespasser

anyway mostly it makes me think 💭 when I remember he has infinite life experience but also, somehow, less life experience than Cole. I want to see what his reaction was for the first few hours after he woke up.

really hate (like most people) what bioware did with the evanuris in inquisition, making them magic slavers, but i know that it's going to be a major if not the primary plot point in dreadwolf so i cant exactly just completely retcon it, so what i decided to do is have it be on a "faith creates gods" basis.

If a group of people believe hard enough in something, it is created through their collective will. SO. I basically now have 2 sets of evanuris in my universe. first set is the OG slaver evanuris, and the second set is the evanuris as the dalish percieve them; benevolent and caring gods of the people that cannot interact with them because the dalish believe them to be sealed away. if the dalish collectively started believing they were freed, they'd be able to interact in a way similar to the daedric princes in the elder scrolls, but these are not the physical people that Solas knew, just their mythological counterparts

speculation for how I think the plot of DA4 may go (or at least, the direction I would go) so potential spoilers, but - It’s funny to me that after Loghain in origins, people don’t seem to consider the possibility of Solas becoming a (optional) companion character (or advisor character) again, after you and solas are done fighting and the greater threat/scope of conflict is revealed at the 50% story mark. Like, it’s a very real possibility and would be very interesting. It’s what happens in Chrono Trigger and FFXIV with similar characters, and I remember the DA developers going wild with praise over the writing of FFXIV. Imagine how cool it would be to have his advice again, but this time without pretense. He stands in the corner with his deeper voice, sounding melancholy, feeling estranged from the other companions. think about how that would feel and how interesting that would be, and tell me that isn’t a BioWare move. Even people who hate him would be torn about killing him because they might want to get rid of him, but he is the only one with living knowledge about the evanuris. anyway I’ve been thinking about being able to talk more with him, openly, and I think any good writer would too
