A whimsical walk to the Brisbane city botanical gardens was part of a new philosophy I have for work travel: if I’m gonna be somewhere, I’m gonna spend some time checking it out, not just transiting between a tiny “four star” hotel room and an office building. I think the four stars at the hotel, BTW, means someone bribed someone at place where they give out the stars. Yes woe is me - forced to stay in a hotel that was probably only actually a three star hotel. Anyway, I chose to walk to and from work each day, which I’m sure my company appreciated, but it also gave me a chance to see the city; actually feel the air, the humidity, smell the smells and attempt to smile and make eye contact with the locals - being a country boy as I am. I got a few positive responses, but as anticipated, the larger the city, the less reciprocal smiles I seem to get. It’s not me, it’s them 🙂. Anyhoo, Brisbane has beautiful architecture, and an absolutely sensational botanical gardens.
