changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

The Gift of Inexpressible Goodness
---
Universal Truth/Reality/Harmony is there, but it cannot be fully explained because the explanation itself is a limitation.
If we call it A, then it is not B, and if we attach ourselves to a conclusion about reality, then we miss the rest of the universal majesty and grace.
Even this explaination, that you read right now, is altogether a joke, but at the same time it carries the value of the same universal reality.
So what I am conveying here is a reminder that nothing can contain it, but everything continuously express it.
It is the intuitive recognition/remembering of that which is always at the sight of eternity; and when this sight becomes obvious to you - then you can talk about it and apply it to your will, because you are consciously aware of it and no conditioned expression will mislead you.
Although the clouds of indifference and oblivion may return, but by persistently returning to the sight of universal harmony - even those "clouds" will be met as universal harmony.
Everything leads to true unconditionality, that includes all conditions, and therefore the universal harmony of life will always find a way to surprise us, so that we do not get attached to biases and remain in pure humility through which we align ourselves with this unconditionality.
Such a transformation of one's own experience gives everything and even everything that can be expressed is as if nothing against that inexpressible goodness, which only the unexpressed one can give to itself.
And this is just a poetic hint - I invite you to dive into its core 🖤

My brain conjured up a vivid image of Furina sharing something about her newfound self-discovery troubles to Neuvillette, only for light rain to start over them immediately and for Neuvillette to just kinda awkwardly and apologetically stand there like 🧍‍♂️

love how the "superpowers" gained via reality jumping are explicitly from other versions of you. it's not like pressing a big, green "download kung fu" button, every skill was explicitly, lovingly cultivated over a lifetime. sure, that life may be ridiculous, but it's indelibly YOURS. you're not becoming stronger but borrowing your own strength from another world

But there are things on which it is almost impossible for any writer to express himself with adequate feeling; and there are things, too, which can be spoken, but which cannot be written.

imagine being always seen as a derivative of someone else rather than vice versa. imagine being programmed to destroy the person you were designed after, programmed to see yourself as the better one of the two, yet you can never defeat the 'inferior' one. you're supposed to be the better one, yet you can never live up to that. you're supposed to be his greatest creation, yet you constantly fail him. you're given a powerful intelligence and even the ability to feel some emotions, yet you're treated like an object and only wanted when you can do something productive and relied on because you're a robot, a machine, you're supposed to be perfect, infallible, you're supposed to do this, do that, and if you make one tiny mistake, if you fail, if you're wrong, if you rebel, show independence, something is horribly wrong with you because machines aren't supposed to be like that and you need to be reprogrammed. you'll never get to be a person. not even close. and you know it. you can't even get infected with the metal virus like the rest of them. you'll never get to be who you wish you were.

If you're going to reblog my (admittedly very ADHD) post about, to borrow someone else's excellent summation, bees in the brain, to say 'OP check your medications', have you considered:

one thing for the superbat hcs… is just. their subtle intimacies. clark kissing the bridge of bruce's nose, holding his face gently and bruce just being vulnerable. loving clark so much that he lets him do it without any fear, smiling softly in ways he never does. i am insane about the idea of bruce crying sometimes at how gentle clark is, being overjoyed at his warm embrace when he’s so desperately touch starved.
gahhh. I am. such a sucker. for touch starved superbat. both ways honestly. I know this ask was from a while ago sorry lol but I’ve recently been getting touch starved Clark + Bruce brainrot... like they’re both such lonely men..,, they’d break down internally if they even held hands...
anyway pls accept shitty tender manman doodles
