ISL 2023-24: Vikram Partap s Hat-trick Seals Emphatic Win For Mumbai City FC
ISL League Winners Shield: Vikram Partap Singh scored a fine hat-trick as Mumbai City FC outplayed NorthEast United FC 4-1 at the Mumbai Football Arena (MFA) to go up to 39 points and strengthen their position at the top of the points table in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 here on Tuesday. Vikram Singh struck the back of the net in the third, 10th and 80th minutes to become only the sixth Indian to notch a hat-trick in the ISL, and the second youngest Indian to do so in the league after Kiyan Nassiri Giri’s feat against East Bengal FC in January 2022.
It was a dominant show put up by Mumbai City FC, who registered their fourth victory in their last six matches to further their formidable run towards retaining their ISL League Winners Shield title.
The Islanders held a firm grip over the proceedings throughout the 90 minutes, with Vikram ensuring that the home team pushed the Highlanders back consistently across the entirety of the match.
The 22-year-old first hit the ball past NorthEast United FC goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh thanks to Dutch midfielder Yoell van Nieff. Keen to assert their gameplay from early on, van Nieff caught the Highlanders aback with a swirling delivery inside the box that lobbed past their defence and was received and hammered home by an alert Vikram in front of the goal.
Vikram outwitted the NEUFC defence in the box on Tuesday night, sniffing opportunities consistently and drilling deliveries home with impeccable finesse. He was helped with an equally industrious frontline. Bipin Singh teased the NorthEast United FC backline by shooting fiercely with his left foot, but the shot could only rattle and rebound off the crossbar.
The ball couldn’t make its way past Vikram though, who jumped upon the chance and capitalised on it with an easy tap-in to double their lead. His chance to secure the hat-trick in the first half didn’t materialise, as Redeem Tlang fouled Akash Mishra inside the 18-yard box in the added time of the opening essay of the match.
Van Nieff assumed responsibility from the spot and cleanly slotted the ball into the left side of Gurmeet to help Mumbai City FC head into the half-time break with a 3-0 lead for only the fourth time in the last 10 years of the ISL.
Vikram rounded off his hat-trick with a shot that demonstrated his striking instincts to the core in the 80th minute though, with a dazzling Lallianzuala Chhangte barging into the NorthEast United FC box and squaring up an assist that was slotted into the goal by a buoyant Vikram.
A minute before that, the visitors had salvaged some pride with Jithin M.S. scoring through a sweet strike off an assist by Gani Nigam. However, Mumbai City FC responded immediately through the counter which resulted in Vikram’s hat-trick.
NorthEast United FC is now placed ninth in the standings, with 20 points from 19 games and their playoff qualification chances took a big hit. To make matters worse, youngster Parthib Gogoi was sent off with a red card in the added time of the second half.
Mumbai City FC will next play Hyderabad FC on April 1 while NorthEast United FC return to action against Kerala Blasters FC on April 6.

Hyderabad FC Beat Jamshedpur FC To Go Seven Points Clear At The Top In ISL
Hyderabad FC registered their fifth successive win this season as they edged past Jamshedpur FC 1-0 to consolidate their top spot in the Indian Super League (ISL) in Jamshedpur on Wednesday. Mohammed Yasir scored again for the defending champions in the second half to end their winless streak against the Red Miners. The hosts made four changes to the side that lost to FC Goa in the last match. Head coach Aidy Boothroyd replaced injured Eli Sabia with Pratik Chaudhari in defence. In the midfield, Wellington Priori dropped to the bench, and Laldinpuia Pachuau took his place. Jay Thomas and Harry Sawyer started as Farukh Choudhary and Ritwik Das started from the bench.The visitors made just one change that saw Bartholomew Ogbeche start as Borja Herrera returned to the bench.Despite being goalless, the first half was a decent one for Jamshedpur. None of the Hyderabad FC players tested Rehenesh TP.At the other end, Laxmikant Kattimani barely managed to keep Daniel Chukwu's header out of goal before being stretchered off with an injury after a collision with Harry Sawyer.Before the visitors were forced to make a substitution, Jamshedpur had to replace Laldinpuia Pachuau in the 25th minute. Farukh Choudhary hopped on to replace the injured midfielder.Towards the end of the first half, Sawyer entered the box and faced the goal from an acute angle. The striker opted to shoot rather than pass and saw his effort fly high.The game's complexion changed early in the second half as Hyderabad FC drew first blood. Halicharan Narzary's low cross aimed at Ogbeche was intercepted by Peter Hartley. However, the ball eventually landed in front of an unmarked Yasir, who squeezed the ball in at the near post in the 48th minute.Approaching the final quarter of the game, the hosts finally tested substitute keeper Anuj Kumar. Boris Singh found Sawyer with a low cross inside the box. Sawyer had his back towards goal as he rolled it back towards Hartley, whose shot was low and hard, but unable to beat Anuj.Seven minutes from regulation time, Odei Onaindia headed the ball back towards Anuj. Under pressure from Ishan Pandita, Anuj fumbled and ended up handling the ball outside the box. The shot-stopper only saw a yellow card for the offence and Jamshedpur FC failed to get anything from the resulting free kick.PromotedThe win took Hyderabad FC seven points clear at the top with 13 points. Their next challenge will come at home on November 19 when they host Kerala Blasters.Jamshedpur FC remain at ninth place after their third loss of the season. East Bengal Legend Jamshed Nassiri's Son Kiyan Nets Hat-Trick For ATK Mohun Bagan In Kolkata Derby | Football News
Young midfielder Kiyan Nassiri scored a memorable hat-trick as ATK Mohun Bagan once again humiliated a below-par SC East Bengal 3-1 in an Indian Super League (ISL) match, in Fatorda on Saturday. Kiyan scored in the 64th minute and then struck twice in second and third minutes of stoppage time (92nd and 93rd) to finish on a memorable note. Nassiri is son of East Bengal legend Jamshed Nassiri, who was known for his powerful headers in the '80s. Kiyan is of Iranian descent but the 21-year-old was born and brought up in Kolkata. He has been part of green and maroon brigade since 2019-20 season.Mohun Bagan now have 19 points from 11 games and are fourth in the league table having played two games less than toppers Hyderabad FC (23 points from 13 games).East Bengal are predictably last among 11 teams and are still part of the season because the ISL doesn't have any relegation and promotion.Kiyan became the youngest hat-trick scorer in the history of ISL but it couldn't have been more poetic for Kiyan to emerge as a hero for green and maroons in a Kolkata derby where his father has been a vital cog for the red and golds. He had scored a memorable winner in the 1985 Federation Cup.The Mariners dominated more of the possession but a lack of end product meant that the outfits went into the half-time break on level terms. The second half began on a fiery note with Colaco hitting the top corner with a right-footed curler within minutes from the restart.On the other end, Antonio Perosevic made Amrinder Singh pull out a crucial save near post with a strong left hand. However, the deadlock was finally broken against all odds by SC East Bengal through Darren Sidoel.The mid-fielder attacked the near post from a corner, got to the ball first, and guided it past the goalkeeper cleverly.The Mariners scored the equaliser after the hour mark through Kiyan Nassiri, who came off the bench to make his second appearance for the club.A couple of minutes later, ATKMB then had the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot through David Williams.The Australian, however, managed to send his spot-kick into the stands.
