I do love Shaw because he has the incredibly rare trait (in my characters at least) of being mercilessly self aware, especially concerning his own emotions and like… why he does things? The problem is that knowing why he wants something or why he feels a certain way has literally never stopped him from doing anything ever. He’s gonna do it even though he knows it’s probably not a good plan and he’s gonna hate himself for it after. King of knowing he has a martyr complex and never changing bc he needs to Suffer actually.

Like why the hell would you get the red honey tattoo Shaw. Shaw you named your boat after your dead daughter. Shaw you’re obsessed with helping this one amnesiac to feel like you can help someone even a little bit. Shaw you’re still in love with your ex-wife despite them being so deep in a villain era and also Hating You. Shaw you’ve developed a mild sexual-hate fixation on the Hat Man because he’s the only person who can regularly make you take a break.

You’re aware this is all so bad for you and you’re changing nothing. My Dude.

Doctor Who In The Blood ranting (spoilers!! dont look if you're gonna read this. also it's kinda dark, tw needles, blood, the doctor in a lot of pain, thinking he's going to have to die)

(yes i did she/her the doctor on this page i didn't even do it on purpose i swear - she/they/he ten you are real in my heart lol)

as you can tell i have Thoughts and Feelings on this. long story short Donna has this disease that gonna kill her and it can only be cured by someone doing something for you that hurts them, so the Doctor is using the thing he uses in Family of Blood so that he can turn some of his blood human to transfer to her cos that's just what has to happen. and Not Only has the author chosen to slip in a reference to THE METACRISIS, but it's done in such a Ten way - like the Doctor is always fairly dismissive of his own pain (he was already stung by acid poison earlier on in the book but yknow, cheery face for Donna) BUT THEN

idk if what i wrote at the bottom is legible lol but the first bit is that Ten got careless with himself. immediately after this he throws himself into an impossible hole where it's very very likely he will Permanently Die, having got out of almost dying like only a few chapters before, and before that he drove a train engine off the tracks off a cliff into the middle of a rainforest. and ofc he survived cos he's the doctor but.... he really does Never Stop.

which donna notices the day they meet, when he first asks her to travel with him she says 'is it always like this' and he says 'no' and she replies with 'i think it is' she sees that IMMEDIATELy and she wants him to be safe!! she can see the incredible toll it's taking on him, one of the things that got me most in Wild Blue Yonder when he's talking to Not Donna and she says 'but we haven't stopped, to talk, we haven't had a chance, it's always like that with you always running from one thing to the next' and IT IS!! she's right!! and it shows that SO WELL and it happens here too!! over the page from ^^this is the next chapter, out of the tardis, everythings fine, get on with saving the world, and SIX PAGES LATER he's fully prepared to die again. and just like so many episodes, he's only stopped from doing so because somebody else sacrifices themself first. and then immediately after that he realises he has to possibly almost Permanently Die in another way.

which is so perfect but also awful because Ten does this All The Time. of all the other things that have happened to the doctor, Ten is the one who is constantly thinking this might finally be the end.

Chapter 4 of In the Blood is out!

Pairing: Link/Zelda

Rating: E

Synopsis: When a mysterious plague sweeps through Castletown and the dead rise, Link and Zelda must race against fate and time to find a cure that will save both Hyrule and each other. (Zombie apocalypse AU)

Snippet:

The passageways twist and turn and snarl as Link makes his way into the depths below Hyrule Castle. Darker and colder with each step downwards.  Just as the book had said.

Bones line the passageways in organised patterns, Hylian and Gerudo and Goron and Zora and Rito all set together. At first. As Link descends deeper, the bones change. They warp and twist, larger and smaller than the races of Hyrule. Now the bones aren’t clean and tidy, some are charred, broken, corroded. Many are deformed. Wrong.  The previous organisation and pattern gives way to a sick entropy, bones scattered around and melded together in no discernible way. Some giant black fragments hollowed of ancient marrow stick out of the walls like jagged fingers that threaten to cut any traveller who approaches too close. Or grab them. Link pushes down his shudders and avoids touching the bones at all costs. 

After climbing down for so long that his knees ache and his eyes strain, the ancient catacomb passages open up to a vast chasm. Even if Link were to throw a spear across the pitch black depths, there would be no possible way to hit the other side. Towering stones glowing a sickly turquoise bearing a long-lost language hewn with anger into the opaque surface surround Link. They almost seem to watch him, looming over him in expectation. But the glow doesn’t penetrate into the pit at all; it sucks up light like the surface of a deep, black lake at night. Link can sense the magic here, thick and cloying. He knows it’s real. It’s as tangible as the sheer rock surrounding them. It pulls at him, tendrils combing through his hair like a lover, like a siren on the rocks, beckoning him closer to the chasm.  It’s time.

Currently reading In The Blood by BiscuitBrunch and this fic is sooo addicting and certainly deserves more attention! Unhinged lawyer Draco with a lot of unhealed trauma + having to deal with his father once he returns from Azkaban (and in the process changing and denying himself to be who he is). Auror Harry who needs to give more of a fuck to revolutionize the system or break it to pieces (this fic is so anti-Ministry and gives anarchist drarry vibes that I LOVE) Auror Harry full of traumas too and noticing the patterns in Draco. Auror Harry just needing and wanting someone by his side. I’m only in the beginning but so excited to see where it goes!

OKAYYYY SO in the blood, doctor who extended universe book, i think it takes place pretty soon after the Silence in the Library arc cos that's mentioned quite a bit, and Donna's husband Lee (who was, i may add, i think going to be canonically trans but they weren't sure how to show that in a split second without it being confusing but he's trans in my heart) from the simulation is on Donna's mind a fair bit so my guess is it's pretty soon after that ANYWAYS, fairly standard doctor who plot, big problem with technology and people on earth and of course it's because Aliens. specifically its that internet trolls are dying and ofc The Internet gets worked up about that, but as more and more people start venting their anger online everyone gets more and more angry and they become hysterical and sometimes die. which obviously is a big problem they have to solve, i won't give away the plot but its fairly average dr who stuff.

BUT. OHH BOY THE CHARACTERSSSSSSSASASSaSSASaSAS i mean i love ten & donna anyways but they are written SO WELL like SOOOO WELL it's SPOT ON and it's so perfect because they do the same things they always do - the doctor is fully prepared to die (well. very painfully regenerate) just as he always does and uhhh actually maybe it's better if i take pictures there was a lot of frantic margin scribbling & underlining hehee

my handwriting is nigh-on-illegible here i know but it says 'she remembers the Arachna-things [one google search later - Racnoss] from the Runaway Bride she knows he has killed people & that people get killed around him but... [long pause here as i thought of what to write. how do you justify that? greater good?] yeah i can imagine it really is easier to not think about it'.

this is just such an interetsing thing that they couldn't have shown in the show right, you can't show 'she didn't even really like to think about it' visually with the same impact. but like.... yeah. she saw him kill all the racnoss & still travels with him. moral grey areas flawed characters but.... the companions must do some serious mental gymnastics NOT TO MENTIOn the Doctor coping mechanisms or lack thereof.

^^but then there's this!! the hope!! he really can't stand people dying even when he is surrounded by it!! he has to hope!!!

the doctor was hiding that what Donna thought was going to fix the problem wasnt going to work b/c then she's get upset & angry, which spacey stuff blah blah is whats currently killing people - but Ten (teh Doctor in general) does this A Lot, not saying everything he knows because he thinks it's going to upset/panic/hurt people/

^^ (they were back in london in present day) the Doctor feels guilty about pulling Donna from her normal, safe life, even though like she wanted to he probably couldn't have said no to that if he tried - and putting her in mortal space danger - but also completely removed from her normal life. she doesn't live like Clara, who fits weeks of time travel in time to show up to work, she's missing out on Normal Life. she's not at home. Sylvia knows she wont be staying for dinner.

sorry a lot of this is kinda depressing BUT i promise you there are joyous bits too! the Doctor is canonically a Kate Bush fangirl!!! and donna has to stop him drinking coffee cos he'e hyperactive enough as it is lol. and -

Chapter 3 of In the Blood is out!

I've been working quite hard on this one, and I hope you enjoy it!

Synopsis: When a mysterious plague sweeps through Castletown and the dead rise, Link and Zelda must race against fate and time to find a cure that will save both Hyrule and each other.

Snippet:

Link, for all of his reckless decisions, is nothing if not clever and resourceful. But sometimes clever and resourceful and desperate make terrible bedfellows.  Which is the case when Link turns to the dark arts in the short hours of the morning after Zelda coughs up blood, sneaking down to the catacombs under the castle with a knife and an old book and breaking every archaic law of the arcane in hopes of healing her. No one really believes in the old ways, but Link’s always sensed some sort of pull, a tug deep in his chest and burning in his hands. There’s something. He can feel it.   Before Link leaves, he writes her a letter. In it is everything he can put into words, everything he wants her to know, everything he can’t bring himself to say out loud without breaking into pieces.  It’s still not enough. There’s no possible way he can convey the scope of his love on parchment. But it’s the best he can do. And Link apologizes for leaving Zelda, hoping that she will forgive him and knowing that she won’t. That doesn’t matter though. If this saves her life, then any price is worth paying. Because he’ll do anything to save her. Anything.  Even this.
