Like a lot of people I sometimes ponder what my favorite characters might look like if they were allowed to grow older. I've been seeing a lot of good designs for older Soren specifically so of course I got to thinkin' about my own take!
Some notes on design process under the cut cause I think we should all share our thought process once in a while:
So, for this I didn't want to just want to go with "Soren, exactly the same but older". My thought was "if I was actually in charge of designing for a fire emblem game, one that takes place in a future Tellius perhaps and featuring this character as a guest (a la Tiki or the Awakening trio, which they should keep doing BTW) how would I go about doing that".
Tumblr media
You have to think of course, about what the character is actually doing and what their role is. It seems pretty likely that after RD Soren is either traveling the world with Ike or wandering around (probably the former) so "traveler" was the theme. As far as the overall shape and the outer layer especially it seemed obvious to reference the dragons, who are also travelers:
Tumblr media
I don't want to just straight up copy the look of the robes though for a couple of reasons. 1) that's boring and the idea here is for an updated visual style 2) I wanted to combine different elements to evoke a feeling of mixing cultures. I figure if this scenario takes place say, 80 years in the future or something, fashions will have moved forward and perhaps you would see elements of beorc and laguz fashions mixed together. Especially for Soren given what he is. So I went with an inner layer that looks more Victorian puffy sleeves (which you don't actually see a lot of in PoR or RD since the characters favor more stiff looking tunics, but they are there and I figured its the future and maybe Crimea has entered its puffy shirt era) with the outer layer looking more like what the dragons wear. 3) Staying with robes seems kind of stagnant. I imagine that a much older Soren who's lived a good life along side his love has probably chilled out a little bit. A little bit. 4) I think having more leg visible gives a more adult silhouette.
Tumblr media
The other consideration is the hairstyle. As much as I love Soren being a carbon copy of Rajaion, it wouldn't be the most interesting design choice if I was the character designer of a game to just copy a past design 1 for 1. So I decided to just lengthen his hair a little bit and give it a look like its been blown around in the wind. Soren is the windy guy and I'm assuming he would be more chill here so why not let it be loose and free? This also helps avoid him just looking like Sephiran cause I see that a lot too lol.
Yes I also changed the shape of his brand. I've always been fascinated by the fact that it changed shape between games. I know it was likely just a design oversight but what if it changed because he isn't an adult yet and it changes more as he ages?
Lastly there's the why. Why would your fav show up as a guest character? What would he even do?? Well I think Soren could be really fun actually if we assume he went with Ike and that Ike kept Ragnell with him. I'm picturing a situation where Ike has lived out his natural life and died, leaving Soren to return to Tellius alone in order to tell Mist's family what happened (cause Ike just left without telling anyone anything lol), and to return Ragnell to them. Instead some conflict breaks out, you know how it is, and the more chilled out Soren is convinced to bestow the sword onto the new starry-eyed lord who reminds him of his beloved.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah. I can see it now.

Do you know how for years no one had any idea about Harry's true nature because of the Palace protecting him? Same for Charles. The man has an ego the size of the Sun, he simply has always had a huge staff to manage his image.
As someone who has been watching this shitshow for many decades now (yikes!), I can say that it is very gratifying to see more come out about Charles' true nature. I think people like me have been out there forever - I mean, his poll numbers have always been in the toilet - but I can understand why royal watchers have been snowed by him - AND why some bought into the whole Camilla PR campaign.
Harry, though. Because I have always been a Diana fan, Harry was a hard one. I could see that the boys were VERY different. Every time Harry showed his true colors, I knew he was an asshole, but I just didn't want to accept that he was as big an asshole as he is. I thought of him as a dumb boy who never recovered from his mother's death. It's been a shock to me, all these years later, how exactly like his father he is. William lost his mother, too, and he isn't narcissistic grifter. William is, I think, like his mother and his grandfather, with a bit of the Queen thrown in. Harry is a carbon copy of his father. I can't even say his mental illness is from Diana. She was living in entirely different circumstances. She was hardly coddled. I think you're dead on about the Palace managing his image.
I am not easily snowed and I was a bit snowed by Harry. I started to see the light the minute that actress I didn't like from that show I did like was suddenly in the papers claiming paps were stalking her. A lightbulb went off immediately and the pieces fell into place. H is C's twin. Right down to marrying, the first his first time and the second his second time, the exact same woman. Although I have to say that the second wife at least knows how to stick to a plan to see it through to the end. Ugly, diabolical plan for sure, but she stuck to it and is now showing her true colors.
Well, that was a lot of blathering. I didn't mean to say that much! Ha
I don't mind admitting it, Camilla's PR had me fooled. Plus I was so fixated on The Harkles that I didn't pay attention to the machinations of The Chuckles. Better late than never I guess.

Hello! If you're still open for hcs can you do what kind of girl Naruto and sasuke would like personality wise?
a/n: Hello! Yeah sure thing, thanks for sending in a request :)
Tags: dating headcanons, fluff
Characters: Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha
Naruto Uzumaki
I think Naruto is pretty flexible with someone he likes/dates. He's got the kind of warm complimentary personality to bring out the best in you no matter what. He can sort of be with with anyone as long as they weren't 100% a carbon copy of him (similarities are okay just not exactly the same)
If you're someone who is more shy he holds the kind of warmth to naturally bring you out of your shell. Does so much talking without feeling embarassed or anxious so it takes the pressure off you. Is super encouraging when it comes to getting you to open up about yourself too.
He can be a little insensitive about certain things sometimes but it's never malicious or intentional. As long as you can call him out on his shit or understand, the two of you will flow well. He does learn, albiet it takes time. Makes the effort!
Naruto becomes a bit more sensitive and considerate around you the more he learns about your likes and dislikes. At first it was all about taking you to things he liked. If you enjoy them then great! More things you have in common but if you don't he wants to find out what you do like. Bugs you about it until you tell/show him. Makes it a fun time no matter what.
If you're more bubbly like him then the two of you are chatterboxes bouncing off each other, all laughs and energy. He's a competitive guy so if you are too then you can make a game out of who pays for the bill at dinner.
Didn't have money growing up so isn't into fancy food places. Is a local ramen man still. Ichiraku has his heart after all. So he's not going to be a fan of being dragged around to fancy venues all the time. If thats your thing then count him out. He's a street corner, local business kinda guy. Fancy places for anniversaries maybe.
In general he's just going to want to be with someone who supports him and who he can support in return. Naruto isn't super fussy. Compassion is a big thing for him in a partner. Also someone who strives to understand people.
Everything else is simply an added bonus that comes with being you.
Sasuke Uchiha
I think for Sasuke it's less about what he looks for in a partner and more about who will stick it out and be with him for him. He's a very complicated guy and not a lot of people can handle that. You have to be patient and understanding, that's for sure.
Like all Uchiha he feels things very deeply and with that depth comes a lot of pain and trauma he's held onto for years. Someone who is willing to stick around and just be there for him goes a long way.
Just be a shoulder to lean on, cry on and listen to him when he is ready.
If you are someone who is kind but not a push over (doesn't take shit from anyone) then that's perfect for him. There are days he needs kindess but there are also days he needs a kick in the ass. Someone to remind him of his priorities, that there are people who care about him and that you care about him.
He gets inside his own head a lot. If you're a bubbly person who can pull him out of that—he really needs it.
Even just someone who can make silly jokes and tell fun stories that make him laugh. Take him on mini adventures through the village. Little things to bring him back to life and get him out of his natural mopey state.
Sasuke will say he doesn't want to them but it's up to you to know better—to know he really just means he's afraid of leaving the comfort of his brooding.
He actually ends up enjoying himself. One day he does admit that to you (in the form of a gentle whisper in your ear).
If you're the kind of person who has a natural inclination to take care of him, he will appreciate you so much. Whether it's cooking him food or taking him out to eat, making sure he's sleeping or holding him while he sleeps to make sure he feels safe. All the little things to give him comfort.
Someone who can talk to him easily! He's not very good at opening up about certain things. If you start off the conversations and lean into certain topics, even by offering up certain vulnerabilities about yourself then he will feel safe to eventually do the same with you.
He needs someone he can talk to and trust but he's not good at establishing those boundaries and opening himself. He needs your help and comfort to do it.
Sasuke just needs someone who is willing to be open and vulnerable so he knows it's okay to be the same. He needs love.

Previous Chapter here
Warnings: angst, reader isn't a good person, gender neutral, alluding to reader being morally grey, potential love triangle
A/n: 42 Miles is in bold.
Tumblr media
"I just need to get home-"
You rolled your eyes.
"My dad is going to die!"
"And?" Your voice was filled with venom. Miles was so desperate. You were beginning to enjoy the pleading, panicked look in his eyes when he finally realised that you could care less in the moment. You offered a small smile, yet it wasn't comforting. "It's not my problem if your fucking dad dies." Your words came out harsh. The mention of Miles' dad had you glancing towards the other Miles, your Miles. He was hard to read, but with his brows furrowed and lips turned down, head tilted up, you knew your comment affected him in one way or another. You attempted to change the subject away from his dad. "You still haven't told us why you're here, Miles."
There was another flash of panic. What would happen if he mentioned the multiverse? The fact that there were people after him, lots of people whom would probably mistake the other Miles for himself. "I already told you! Please, I'm just trying to get home!" He groaned out, growing frustrated and annoyed, "I was trying to get home, and I ended up in the wrong universe." He finally admitted.
You weren't surprised. You figured that much out already. From the moment you saw him, to the moment you punched him in the face. Why else would Miles have a doppleganger? You seemed to be lost in your thoughts for a moment when your Miles spoke up.
"You work for someone?" He rose a brow, glancing towards the spandex suit his carbon copy was wearing before looking back into his eyes.
"No- no. Yes? No. Maybe." He stumbled over his words. "Listen, a bunch of other people like me are going to come find me. So, if you don't let me go you both are going to get in the middle of it." He tried to reason.
It looked as if you weren't listening, a cloudy look in your eyes. You were studying Miles so intensely. It felt like you had known him your whole life, and while you had known him in his universe, you didn't here. The feeling was uncomfortable and unexpected, something that left you with a subtle sense of curiousity to learn more about this undiscovered version of your best friend.
"Is our- sorry, your dad.. y'know?"
You quickly looked up to Miles, seeing the hesitant look in his eyes before he nodded. "Yeah. Place has gone to shit ever since." Miles frowned. "Mamá has been picking up more shifts at the hospital too." He figured as much. Maybe Miles wasn't as bad as he originally thought?
All while chatting up a storm with the alternate version of himself and you, he was working on the ties that held him to the punching back. He had gotten them loose enough to tug now. All Miles wanted was to get out of the restricting ropes that were now burning his wrists.
Your eyes ran from his face down to his arms. You then turned to your friend. "We could untie him.." you whispered, "What's he going to do anyway? He doesn't have a phone or a watch.. he can't contact anyone. Maybe he can help?"
You watched as his eyes widened. You were right. He couldn't contact anyone, and even if he wanted to fight his right shoulder was pretty banged up from his chase with Miguel. He heard the sigh that slipped past his doppelgangers frown and the quiet curse that followed.
They're going to let me go! The thought left as quickly as it came.
"Fuck. Okay."
You smiled.
"We're not letting you go. You're going to help us first, then we'll talk about freedom."
You knew he would agree with you, one way or another at the least. You moved around to where Miles was bound to the ever swaying punching bag. "You try anything and I'll hunt you down for sport, yeah?" Your words sounded so sincere, so Miles just agreed. He didn't want that to happen. Your hands brushed against his, inspecting the rope burn before you began to tug the loosened chords free.
Miles hissed as he fell to the floor, body glitching in a horrid fashion. Flashes of green, blue and red protruded from his body as he clutched his stomach. His mind flashed back to the moment of his first mission in Alchemex with Peter.
'Your cells are deteriorating as we speak. That must be so painful.'
Your brows raised and you almost felt pitiful. "You really aren't from here are you?" It was rhetorical. Your arm looped under his. You were quite strong, stronger than he expected as you helped pull himself up from the floor. There was a sudden urge to help him but you weren't entirely sure why. You chalked it up to the fact that he looked like your friend.
"What was that?" Miles spoke up. He looked at you and you almost went to open your mouth and answer until Miles beat you to it. "My atoms are deteriorating.." He sounded out of breath. Out of instincts you brought him over to the couch, helping him sit. For someone who had threatened to kill him just minutes earlier, you were being quite caring now.
Now being on the couch, Miles was able to finally take in his surroundings. Those speakers.. the purple couch, the red punching bag. This was his tio's place. "He's alive.." he muttered under his breath, eyes shutting for a moment to hold back any unshed tears that threatened to spill.
You and Miles squinted at him. Miles went to speak before there was a sudden knock at the door.
"I got it." You spoke quietly, nodding towards Miles who gave a small nod back. You walks towards the door as quietly as possible. You looked through the peep hole and your eyes widened. You turned back to Miles, shaking your head quickly.
"I know someone's in there!" The voice bellowed. That wasn't uncle Aaron's voice, Miles wasn't sure what to think anymore.
You moved back to Miles, watching as the other Miles stood up. You pulled your mask back over your face, watching as the two boys followed in suit.
"You take Miles. I'll take care of this." The prowler spoke, voice changed slightly deeper now that the mask was on.
"No- no. I'm not leaving you here. Something could happen-" Your sadistic tone from before turned into one of concern. So you really did care for him.. Miles smiled slightly, lost in his own thoughts until a bang came from the door. He jumped slightly. Why were his spider senses not helping?
"I'm not taking no for an answer. You need to watch Miles, make sure he doesn't try leaving just yet." He huffed out.
You went to object again, only to stop yourself halfway. You nodded. "Okay.. Be safe. Meet at the spot when you're done." You hummed.
You then turned towards Miles, your look sour again. You had practically began to drag him to the window. Shoving him onto the fire escape. He was shocked by your strength once again, however wasn't surprised at how pushy you were.
"You ready to fly?"

Izzzzyyy, i don't know if it's been asked yet, but since we can choose our bedroom look, how do the bedrooms of the ros look(style)??
Jean/Jade- very very clean and tidy, nothing is out of place. Beige bedding, white walls, and carpet. They have a work desk with a computer, just in case. I don't see them having that many decorations (maybe a few family photos, a photo of their mom, and a few of the articles J is the most proud of). They also have a gigantic bookcase that's filled to the brim, and that is perhaps the only bit of color in J's room.
Uma- lots of unfinished canvases— the wall is a canvas too, one that is periodically painted over and over in different themes. Uma used to share their bedroom with their twin brother Rohan (the two of them sleep on bunk beds, and they have claimed the top one), they're the order to their brother's disorder. There are a few potted pants on the window sill, and fairy lights.
Statler- has lived with Noir for a year, and the two of them are still getting used to that space. It has little personality other than the family photos (most of them are Statler's: of their mom and dad, their half-siblings), Statler's guitar, and Noir's things (they're very messy and Statler often has to clean after them). Statler and Noir's room looks more like a boring IKEA store bedroom than an actual room.
Wanda- is a bit messy, an organized disaster. Her bedroom is very colorful and eclectic, with lots of trinkets that barely fit together but that Wanda loves. There are many toys strewn around, as well as a few books on parenthood that J thought would be useful years ago. Wanda's closet is a clothing rack where she also keeps her jewelry, shoes and makeup (and the key reason everything looks so messy).
Kai- has tried to make their new room look like a carbon copy of their old room (they haven't succeeded). Kai is incredibly messy and tends to leave clothes and shoes all over the place. Other than that, it's a 90s kid daydream (10 Things I Hate About You inspired): very alternative and full of posters. Kai also has a desk with a gaming pc, and a bookcase with books, comics and manga.
Travis- it looks very personal and clean. Travis tends to gravitate toward darker colors. It would make his room look very depressing were it not for the gigantic cat tree and the many cat toys. There's also a small red armchair that only Byron uses. Travis isn't all that sentimental but he has many trinkets and memories neatly decorating his room, as well as a desk with a computer and a bookcase.
I should make them on the Sims or something so I know to be consistent once MC manages to make it inside anyone's bedroom fnendns

Man... I've already blasted through like fifty chapters and—
I liked Verona at first, I still do, despite everything, but man I need her to lose.
I don't know what the truth is yet but Jester is the King's nephew. In my heart. Even if it isn't canon. How would that affect things? Not sure yet.
Do I necessarily want Lux as queen? Kinda debatable, I don't know if the manhwa is finished— it's only got like 60+ chapters I believe, and I'm already past the 50 mark. Would there be a believable way to showcase her growth that she'll become a worthy monarch? Her heart is in the right place, for sure. A lot of Verona's policies and whatnot favor commoners too but... she herself does seem to harbor biases. She deems the slums and the Ransi people as lowly scum, and associates the two of them rather closely when we the audience are never shown if that's true.
The king is a useless buffoon.
What the fuck is up with Cicero, I'm sus of him but I hope he can be a good ally for Lux.
Rest in peace, Ophelia.
woah you are a fast reader, I'm impressed!
I also liked Varona at first and I still appreciate her character. She's a villainess sure but you get where she is coming from. Varona was wholly raised to be the future Queen and put her lifework into that singular goal and now she's about to lose everything to a child just because the king felt guilty about the death of her mother. The author didn't make her a mustache twirling villain or anything and I like that. She's a perfect example how a bad person can be a good ruler. If she wins I want it to be a phyrric victory where she finds no joy in her triumph over her sister.
The Jester will always be the King's nephew in my heart. His name is never revealed, so I just choose to believe that's the reason. I also love it when children are nothing like their parants. Cold and pragmatic Varona who looks down on the Ransi people comes from the kind first queen who was adored by the common folk. Kind and naive Lux is the daughter of the crazy mad Queen Catherynne. And the fool for love is the true son of King Klaus who used to burn down villages.
I'm torn if I want Lux to be queen. I just want Varona to lose. Lux doesn't even seem to want to be queen. She only does it to survive and to fullfill her mother's wish. I bet the crown would make neither party happy. Fenton could be the secret third option if he'd undergo character development and overcame his asshole personality. He isn't that bad. So far he's just been an arrogant noble. But I want the future ruler to be a woman actually.
The manhwa isn't completed yet. Hypothetically Lux had the time to become a good Queen with the right guidance. She entered the palace when she was 12 and the King would chose his heir when she's of age. I assume when she's around 18 or 20. I have my doubts if she could manage that realistically. The trauma, the loss of her beloved maid and her self-harm/suide attempts along with the manipulations and sabotage from Varona undoubtedly take their toll on the young princess' mental state and would slow down any progress in her studies.
Varona could have taken her under her wing and used her as a puppet like the red haired girl. It'd be even easier because back then Lux was an impressionable child longing for a family, but Varona was too much blinded by her hatred for Catherynne to use the opportunity presented to her. She prides herself with her outstanding education and intelligence yet many of her decisions are driven by emotions rather than rationality. For example her plan to turn the lady-in-waiting into a carbon copy of her own mother, counting on her father to fall in love with her and marry her was a very stupid plan that made me seriously question her intelligence🤦. I also found her comparision of a dog that died because she starved him in the first place and then overfed him, to commoners that would ruin themselves if you gave them too much money tone-deaf. Why are the dog and the commoners suffering? Because of the crown. And what gave her the idea that commoners aren't able to budged? That they'd get wasteful reeks of bias. Poor people are some of the most economical people you'd met, because they are used to saving things and having to live off little food when times are hard. Even after they get out of proverty those habits persist even years later. They aren't animals. Can you be a truly good queen if you treat some of your people as second-class citizens?
The king is an idiot except for one thing: Varona really is just like his brother. She would burn down entire villages during a time of plague if she considered those people expandable and a burden on the public purse who didn't deserve her help for the sole reason that they are unable to be of use to the kingdom.

can i ask for a breakdown of the kids and their personality because im lowkey lost.
yes! i would love to! under the cut are just the main ones that we talk about the most.
milo makar: sweetest boy anyone could ever imagine. is cale's twin, has the rosy cheeks, blue eyes, light ginger hair. fluxuates between momma's boy and daddy's boy, loves both equally. he is best friends with penelope mackinnon and her bold (to put it lightly) rubs off on him eventually. milo does end up turning into chaos but not in a bad way. he is a chatterbox, he will walk up to any stranger and just start a conversation. milo loves baseball and anything to do about it. yeah, it's cool that his dad plays hockey but it would be even cooler if he played baseball. just fyi. milo all in all is just a good, solid kid. he can make friends with anyone but isn't gonna ditch penny behind. milo does get in trouble at school sometimes, but it's never anything too serious. cale makes sure of that.
penelope mackinnon: there are not enough words to describe this child. she is a lot. she's dramatic, she's the kid who cries to get what she wants and she uses it to her advantage. she looks like her mom (mom, who's name is sarah, had penny with nate but they were never really a serious couple. they decided co parenting was the best option), but has nate's eyes. and good lord is that his biggest weakness. but back to the point- she is a bubbly kid, always laughing and has a smile on her face. but if she doesn't like something (a person, a place, a food, etc.) she will let dad/mom/nanny naomi know about it. which she also gets in trouble for at school for simply telling other kids "i don't like you, you (insert reason here)". she's intense, she intimidates even nate's teammates sometimes. but once you have penny's approval, you have it for life pretty much. she wasn't ever one for sports, she's tried a few things but never really found her fit in any of them. but she is her dad's #1 fan for sure. nobody supports nathan like his lucky penny <3. to end, penny most definitely is an attention seeker. if she doesn't have all the attention she will get it. she loves her dad more than anything, but she hates going to his games bc "hockey is no fun". penny is the popular girl in school in every grade she's in. even though she has her little "posse", milo will always be her best friend.
gemma patrick: ugh, what a sweet girl. looks just like dad. the light brown hair, the blue eyes- everything looks wise she has. but even though she looks like nolan (even in the sonogram pictures mom was like "she looks like you nolie"), she grows to be like mom. chatterbox- once she says her first word (which was daddy), she never stops talking. very talkative child, she's always asking questions and always pointing things out. she's kinda shy at first but once she comes out of her shell it's hard to push her back in it. oh and when i say just like mom i mean it. gemma is a material gorl. she wants to dress up like mommy, be pretty like mommy. she wats to do everything like mommy. but do not be mistaken, she is a daddy's girl through and through. she might act like mom, but he's her #1 at heart. he calls her his mini princess. but she keeps to herself most of the time as she grows up, taking on some of her dad's traits that way. if she does play sports it's track/cross country. she reads all the time. any time nolan finds her she's got her nose in a book. oh and at family reunions, gemma and penny do not vibe at all (it was cannon that princess is nate's cousin a while back). just bc they're cousins doesn't mean they have to vibe. gemma is more humble, penny is...not. but yeah, gemma is nolan's pride and joy.
nelly crosby: 1/2 of the crosby girls, nelly is the more reserved of the twins. she's attached to sidney at all times. the crosby girls are the stereotypical twins, opposites. but the girls are sid's carbon copy. they have his curly hair, his dark brown eyes, slightly olive toned skin, even his half crooked smile. but nelly, absolute doll. she's polite, she always asks if mom or dad wants help with what they are doing. even if mom is just folding laundry or working from home, she always offers to help. nelly is a homebody honestly. where nora plays two or three different sports, nelly is back home reading a book or watching shows. nelly, when she grows up ofc, loves to have just deep talks with sidney. she just walks into his study, or wherever he's at and just plops down and asks a deep question that she know's he will have an answer to. oh yeah, did i mention she's a daddy's girl?
nora crosby: ah yes, the other 1/2 of the crosby girls. the wilder one. where nelly is introverted, nora is an extrovert. she's also the one who starts little petty fights (most of the time, not saying nelly is perfect). but nora is always putting herself out there. she spends most of her time playing outside when she gets home from school, just running around the yard or shooting hoops in the driveway. she plays just about every sport she can until she can only do two at a time. but nora, is also a daddy's girl at heart. when she's little, more often than not after dinner she's the first to leave the table after they finish cleaning up to go play outside. when she's done, she comes back in and crashes on the couch on sidney's lap. nora, like milo, will talk to anyone about anything. she's a bit of a chatterbox but she wont go on and on. both of the girls love spending time with each other though, normally where you find one you can find the other. they're each others best friends, and sidney loves it.

If you could sum up your character with one sentence, what would it be?
Canon Questionnaire
Unpopular(?) opinion but I actually think this is an impossible task for any writer with any character — any character with even ankle deep depth, that isn't a function character, anyway.
Like you could describe function characters (the cabbage man from ATLA, Lt. Scarfield and the witch Shansa from DMTNT) with this method, because their identities are actually plot functions as far as the story being told is concerned. Sure they have names, sometimes, but even then they're likely to be there more to further something along than to have their inner worlds mapped out. (Pintel and Ragetti wobble on this line; they're almost one-sentence characters, but little bits poke through anyway). If a character is actually a part of things, has goals, gets to express nuance etc., I don't think it can be done. Or rather I think it can be done but it will always be an incomplete image. I know that's kind of the point, to cut to the 'most important' parts but I really think.. all the parts are important? Real people will have entire swathes of similarities and what makes them distinctly who they are is the little parts. I think people who lean on single-sentence type identifiers too hard end up losing sight of their characters anyway, in a different direction than what happens when they close their eyes to canon. Single sentencing too hard leads directly to flanderization. If they started flat to begin with, and don't need to be anything else, it's fine! If not, be careful.
With that in mind, I think the closest you can possibly get to a single-sentence for Henry is to simply take him at his own self evaluation (which the fact it was him who said it is in itself is an important part of things–), which is to say: “I'lll never stop, and if you throw me over, I'll come straight back.” This leaves a bunch of other things out but it does, also, cut to a really core drive of him, at any rate — a piece you couldn't remove without completely undoing the character. Arguably he doesn't have to be a storyteller, or even technically a pirate, but he does have to be confident, and persistent, and bold. And he has to be kind as well, and earnest; willing to listen, and to start causing problems if other people aren't listening, aren't paying attention. He has to be prepared to break things in order to fix them. (Running away to bring his family together; defying chain of command to (attempt to) prevent deaths.) He has to love so hard, all the way into it being a flaw. You take those and you've just... invented a different kid you're calling Henry. (Which, if you are just writing a different Henry, go ham! Do whatever! If you're calling him Henry though I feel like DMTNT should at least be on your radar a little bit though, and if you want to ignore it exists then maybe. Don't call him Henry. But that's a big fat fandom opinion on things that don't actually have any consequences or fallout s;dflkjg;wlrtkjg;sldkjfg) He cannot be resentful toward Will for his absence, I don't think. You'd have to be really really good at toeing a line for that one to work (and me personally I think that veers too far into just rehashing Will himself, which is boring. Parallels don't have to be carbon copies tyvm, let him love wildly and without anyone having had to 'earn' it.) And obviously I'm devolving into many many more than one sentence but I do think a lot of that that I just said can be, in some way, linked to his "I'll come straight back" which is why I think it's probably the closest a person can get to one-sentence'ing him. Or as close as I can get anyway, but I'm bad at it. (Kind of on purpose.)
For the ways I've written him I think the little epithets given at the top of the source material/divergences section of his bio page are also a good centering place? "Son of the Pirate King. Blood of a Turner, feathers of a Sparrow." It's more ... poetic? Ambiguous? Than a direct description, but nevertheless it tells you where I've focused him, what I'm pulling into it. Good short description only in that it evokes the entire complex history of three other characters that came before him in order to even get him on the page!

Sasha is Mikasa's friend, one day she went to Mikasa's apartment because they were planning to go to their friend's birthday party. While waiting for Mikasa to get dressed, Sasha sat in the living room, she was even surprised by a topless man coming out of Mikasa's bedroom (who claimed to be Mikasa's step bro), Eren.
in the end sasha and eren chatted with each other and continued affectionately, even eren bravely pulled sasha's sexy dress, and then he pinched sasha's nipples, sasha like it when that tounge suck her tits...
i want to now eresha conservation to start make out and im curious to know what's next. can you tell us? Will Mikasa soon be ready to dress up and go out her bedroom? and join her stepbrother and her friend?
YESSSS
I love step bro Eren! I always save the stories involving step siblings eremika, especially when Mikasa is so oblivious about his "harmless" behavior, it's my guilty pleasure im sorry ☠
Sasha meets him for the first time when she goes to their shared flat because of a colege project, Mikasa greeting her a bit out of breath and her hair a mess for some reason, lipstick smudge and rosy checks adorning her face
She legits thinks he is some kind of fuckbuddy/fwb or even his bf when she sees him appear from Mikasa's room, his chest topless and drops of sweat running through his pecs down to his abs 💀 thinks Mika is a lucky girl because she wouldn't mind jumping on him!
When he tells her he is Mika's step brother she doesn't believe at all, like, she may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but she obviously knows step-bros shouldn't be coming out of their "sisters" room like that 🤨
It doesn't help when she sees them acting so lovingly either! Like he sometimes would make Miks sit on his lap and feed her ice cream, even though she's there!😏
Some other times she would see him kiss Mikasa goodbye too close to her mouth too! Holding her by the hips against him like a lover would, hugging her to tightly there was no doubt he was making her feeling everything 👀
One time when she was there they actually gets visited by their parents! tall brunette guy who resembles Eren too much and and short, snowy skinned woman who might as well be a carbon copy of Mikasa! So they indeed were step siblings! How come they were acting like this tho!? 🤨
When Sasha asks her about it, Mikasa would be so innocent like - What about it? Isn't it normal? - and thats when Sasha realizes Mika has been took advantage of 😭
The more Sasha visits Mika's flat, the more Eren's attention starts focusing on her, like checking on her when she is unaware and making nasty innuendos about how she seemed like a pro just because she managed to eat a pop sickle faster than him 😤 sometimes even pinching or spanking her ass as when she bends over for any reason!
She obviously hates it at first, he already was taking advantage of her too innocent friend, but she won't be falling for it! Even resorts to slaps him on his chest when he is being way too much for her! 😤
But even though he is a pain in the ass, she can't help but get excited at the idea of him chasing her! She loves the attention way too much tbh 🤭
What makes her really lose it is when she tags along Mikasa home after working out, the both of them sharing the shower cuz they are confortable around each other and not just cuz she likes the sight of Mik's body, only to run into him in the bathroom the same way he came to the world🥵
The next time she comes to their place is to help Mikasa with her make up, since they will be going to Historia's place for the annual summer break party, and since Hisu knows Eren as well, he will tag along too 👀
Lots of things would happen there, like "Shot or dare" games in which she gets to make out with Mikasa or discard her mini skirt for the rest of the game (Eren's doing obviously) or share small pecks here and there with some of the boys there
There is dancing too! The kind of one that might as well be clasified as dry humping by how Eren made Mikasa rub their waists together and left her legs shaking 😏 and when he decides it is her turn she can't help but comply, no regrets after all when she gets to feel the heavy weight of his dick poking her in the clit 🔥
Eren and Mikasa wouldn't be smooth on their ride home at all, touching way too much for Sasha's taste, sitting on the side not sure what to do 😬 she can perfectly hear Mika's breath going erratic and just can think about how much she wished she was in her position!
When she helps him drag a weak legged Mikasa in, he actually asks her to spent the night them! Coming up with the good old "it's too late!", even though her place is not that far
She doesn't buy his goody two shoes bs at all but still stays for the night, it was very late afterall 😏
Eren doesn't feel like calling it up a night yet, and decides to put a movie on their tv, Mikasa cuddled and sleepy on his side while making a small chat with her on their couch
He tells her how good of a "dancer" she was, how she looked so nice with that pink blouse and that black mini skirt she had, even daring to imply how she looked way better with her skirt off!
She is too dumbfounded to come up with a witty answer, just bothering to tell how he wasn't that bad and that she already knew she looked stunning 🤭
Their conversation would escalate way too quickly, the alcohol in their blood probably the reason way she didn't mind the way his hand caressed her thigh or how it toyed the buttons of her blouse, all the while his other hand shamelessly squished Mikasas's boob in his hold 😈
She doesn't know when it happens but before realizes what is going on he is already leaving hickeys on her neck and bite marks on her shoulder, Sasha making her best effort to not let out a single sound until he bites her pretty hard on her nipple 🔥
The commotion would wake Mikasa of course, just to find his step brother and her supposed to be bff in a compromising position 🤨 but rather chew them up she feel offended for not letting her join! Probably because of the alcohol too 🤭
Clothes gets dicarded to the floor as they get frisky with each other, maybe only on their undergarments as Eren makes them make out for him on his lap, his dick quickly hardening at the sight and the way their hips moved, joining when he got enough of watching to make a perfect kiss of three!
Sasha's memories of the night stop right there, because everything from there is just a blurred memorie, she only knows she wakes up in the same bed as them, an empty box of condoms on the floor, her crotch hurting like hell and the worst headache she felt in years!
I may have took some freedom considering the initial request 🤭
Honestly this has so much one shot potential, maybe even a short story! But I really want to end the one I have before creating another one 😅

I have such a hard time accepting that shiv made the decision on the vote based on self interest or a sort of murder-suicide thing. I'll absolutely admit that her survival instinct was a huge factor. But there's a narrative that no one seems to want to accept that's glaringly obvious.
I think it gets brushed over waaaayyy too quickly that she sat on that "no" for around 12 (?) hours before showing signs of doubt. And when she does, she doesn't just come right out and vote against him, she leaves the room and asks for a moment alone because she needs to think. It doesn't really make sense to me that she would need to think about this if she's voting yes because she wants to see the vote blow up, like that doesn't make any sense. Why would she even bother to agree to the alliance in the first place?
Here's the other thing- how is the mattson deal supposed to be any better for her now that she knows Tom would be CEO? if anything, that's actually the far more deadly choice for her to make, because then not only does she not hold power but she's also stuck as The Wife And Mother. The only edge would be offered to her in escaping that role by siding with the boys. If she sides with Tom, she gets to be proxy to power- but how was that any different than what she was promised by Ken and Rome?
She definitely had survival at the top of her mind, and obviously never stopped resenting Ken for inheriting this "birthright". But to say that this decision wasn't out of a fear of seeing Logan 2.0 in the flesh? I think that's a very difficult argument to make. It's not that she's valiantly accepting death so that she saves herself, Roman, and the rest of the world from a carbon copy of Logan. It's that there seems to be a lack of understanding among a lot of viewers that this was the tipping point for her.
"I cannot stomach you" isn't a reference to the idea of Ken winning. She's near tears saying it because he makes her sick- not from succeeding- but in his imitation of Logan. This is where I also want to bring up the fact that Roman changes his vote at this point too. Are we going to argue that Roman did that because he just wanted to see Ken lose out of some sense of Karmic justice?
Anyway I'm still not really understanding why the idea of her making this decision as an act of martyrdom is still so widely rejected.

so, I've been thinking about this alot and had to ask but: which of the two dixon kids (robin and baby dixon #2 of course) will grow up wearing their dad's iconic vest? I've always thought this because I feel like the vest could end up being a family thing, heck! sometimes I feel like reader wears it or look at it knowing she's thinking of Daryl. I could also see it being equivalent to carl wearing his own dad's, rick, hat so that's also something too!
Awww omg I haven't even thought about this! Well I think the vest is definitely a family heirloom lol. I also do think reader probably puts on Daryl's vest. I imagine she is doing laundry, and having just washed his vest, she smiles and looks around to make sure he won't see her, then puts it on and goes to look at herself in the mirror with a giggle, since it's so big on her/looks so out of place (she might even do a little Daryl impression with her shitty southern accent). And of course Daryl catches her and teases her about it for a while, but he thinks it's very cute.
ANYWAY, so I definitely think little Daryl Jr. is going to be the one to inherit the vest. Robin maybe tries it on a few times, but it isn't really her thing. I think she is more interested in her dad's crossbow. Robin's style is more like her mom's—she likes dresses and colorful clothes. Daryl Jr., on the other hand, basically just wants to be a carbon copy of his dad, and he literally wants to follow in his footsteps (Robin wants to do some of the things her dad does, but for the most part, she's very individualistic and has her own path she wants to go down). Daryl Jr. just wants to be his dad. He wants to ride a motorcycle and have long hair and wear his dad's old vest. He wants to be tough and cool and stoic and maybe a little grumpy but still heroic and a legend in Alexandria (you know Daryl is seen as a hero by all the Alexandrians, which is just so cute to me).
Daryl Jr. loves the vest, and I imagine that Daryl actually has a really hard time letting go of it, so tbh, I think he will get the vest when Daryl dies lol. Literally have to pry it out of his cold dead hands, but he does want his son to have it. He probably tells him that a lot like: "you like my vest, scout? You can have it... just wait til I'm dead."
Yes, he calls him scout.

Sometimes I wish Avatar was more like Naruto
If Katara HAD to be primarily a healer after the A:tLA show, then I wish she would have turned out more like Sakura.
Yes, Sakura is a healer, but she's not afraid to fight. She uses her healing abilities not only to help others, but to make herself stronger, as her mentor did before her.
She was also still politically active and championed healthcare, both by running the hospital, sharing her medical knowledge and creating a children's mental health ward.
She is respected for her healing ability, as is her mentor, Tsunade, who was the Hokage. That's probably because, in general, healing is a respected profession in the Naruto world and it just happens to be a female-dominated field. It also empower's people and makes them able to fight proficiently later in life (don't give me that "she's 80 so she's too frail to take a days boat ride to see her granddaughter's Air Bending Master ceremony. She helped resurrect people and already lives in one of the most inhospitable places on earth.) We also get to see Sakura successfully heal multiple people throughout the sequel series.
Sakura's husband is absent for large stretches of time, leaving her to raise her child (who thinks, because of her father's prolonged absence, that he doesn't love her or her mother), and while doing this, Sakura still protects her daughters, maintains an active role in her community and has a known social life.
In her older age Sakura comes off as less aggressive than she was as a teen, but she still has that spunk and she loses her temper when she's pushed too far. She is humanized character with wants, desires and flaws. Having flaws does not negate her ability to provide emotional support nor play an active role in her children's lives, and vice versa. Her development doesn't negate who she was by the end of the first series, nor make her completely unrecognizable.
Although the physical differences between Sakura and Sasuke are not as pronounced as the ones between Katara and Aang (at least not with skin color, the hair is pretty noticeable), they still exist. Sarada has Sasuke's eyes and hair, but Sakura's skin color, facial and body structure. There was care put into her design, and when you see the Haruno-Uchiha family together, it is clear how Sarada resembles both of her parents.
Both the Avatar and Naruto worlds place a lot of emphasis on how great it is for people to learn how to fight using different styles, and Sakura's child actually does that. This not only shows that she respects Sakura, but that Sakura had an active role in teaching her child how to fight, despite the fact that Sarada's fighting style and training would later focus on how to master and utilize the Sharingan, it also shows that Sarada kind of sucks at healing, or at least does not have the same propensity to heal as her mother did, because she is not a carbon copy of her parents' abilities.
If Suki and Sokka HAD to break up, I wish Suki became more like Tenten.
Tenten is a single woman, and as far as we know, childless, by the time that the Boruto series starts, but she is still respected by her community. She is renowned for her knowledge of weapons, which are her primary weapon in combat, despite that fact that most of the ninjas we know use a lot of flashy elemental jutsus.
We never learn much about her background, and as time goes on she may become more distant from the cast of characters who were the protagonists for the majority of the original series, but she is still an unquestionable badass. We don't see her much, but whenever she comes on screen, her character shines.
If Toph HAD to join law enforcement, I wish she was more like Ino.
Ino is respected. Ino is feared. Ino is tough and believes in tough love. Ino isn't corrupt.
She is the daughter of a very powerful man and the heir to a very powerful clan. When her community needed her, she stepped up to the plate, she cared, she didn't run away.
She doesn't end up with the man she originally has a crush on, not because she's deficient in any way or not feminine enough or not pretty, just because he liked someone else and that happens. Ino moved on and formed a meaningful romantic relationship with someone else.
If Pema HAD to be a housewife, I wish she was more like Hinata.
There's no shame in loving someone who has romantic feelings for someone else, and expressing those feelings. In fact, it takes a lot of courage to do so. Both Hinata and Pema have that in common.
Even though Hinata is a housewife and the wife of a man from a dying clan who is also a major political leader, she is not a pushover and she is not defined by her husband. In fact, it's actually really great that she is a housewife, because she shows that housewives — and mothers — have agency and respect in-universe. This is also a nice glimpse into the domestic life of people in the Naruto universe. The two main characters of Naruto, him and Sasuke, were orphans, as were most of the supporting cast. Many of the families we do see are abusive.
Hinata shows that parents can be involved in their children's lives and their children turn out to be good people, interesting people worthy of watching a show about, even if their home lives aren't tragic.
Even though she is soft spoken, Hinata has a say in how her family is run, she lets her husband know what's up when he steps too far out of line, and she knows her children well and takes an active role in their lives. Boruto and Himawari are also close with Hinata's family and their Hyuga heritage is a major role in both their fighting style and their identities, even though they are also Uzumakis.
Also, like with Sakura and Sarada, Hinata's children actually resemble her, once again proving that they are neither carbon copies of a parent, nor completely unaffected by their mother.
No, Hinata is not the Hokage, but is still a valued member of her community. She maintains relationships with friends from her pre-marriage and pre-mother years, and we get to see those relationships on screen. This alone shows that she exists outside of her house.

/// Rant: Just a post detailing the things I didn't like in the Beyond comics that I remember or have seen since setting this blog up. I'll probably sandwich some things I did like in here too so it's not all negative. These are all just my opinions. If you like something from this list, cool. You do you, I'll do me.
Okay so starting with things that I read completely through a few years ago. Dick Grayson clones. Not sure why Amanda made these. But the only real thing I personally liked from Hush Beyond was the introduction of a new Catwoman. I also liked that she broke the trope of Catwoman/Batman, making her much more unique to herself. As much as I like Selina/Bruce (and I do), a new generation of something doesn't and shouldn't have to be a carbon copy of the original. Which I think is why I like the cartoon so much. They played with a lot of the same tropes, but they tackled them in different ways. Because Terry isn't Bruce and these villains and problems aren't the same. (except for Viktor)
Next, JLB... Well I have it in my rules and about... but, Zod/Superboy had a great initial backstory. He was the son of Jax-ur and was born in the Phantom zone. Superman and the gang rescue him and Supes adopts him. Would have been great to leave it there. However, they ruined it, the idea of what the Justice Lords actually are, and Wonder Woman all in one fell swoop. Before this arc, these comics were actually going pretty good imo. Please read them and stop as soon as you see Wonder Woman or "Lord" Superman. But then every other comic at the time suddenly was doing something with Earth 3... so I guess maybe they were pressured to as well? Either was this arc sucked. They decided to treat the Justice Lords like Earth 3 characters. Which doesn't work if you actually watched those episodes. Even if you ignore the fact that Luthor's device took their powers AWAY in their episode... The Justice Lords aren't """evil""" versions of the JL. They're versions that go to the extreme to keep people safe. There's a very big difference here in characterization. To add them into the plot and just have them be like --- generic evil superman??? doesn't work. You haven't comprehended anything if that's what you got from the Justice Lord's cartoon plotline.
And they set this up with Wonder Woman from the DCAU having decided to go back to the Justice Lord's universe to help fix things. She's apparently been there the WHOLE time. It's very in Wonder Woman's character to help those in need so I'm okay with her hopping over to set things straight. But she also feels responsibility to her own world, there's no way she'd stay that long EVEN with the romance sub-plot they gave her and Justice Lord's Batman. And any look around my blog should tell you WonderBat is my jam. I go for that in a plotline. Well it helps me hate that plotline more actually, because they had "Lord" Superman kill "Lord" Batman. To stop the fighting "Lord" Superman and Wonder Woman agree to have a baby. That's Zod apparently. Which was squirreled away to the Phantom Zone with Jax-Ur. None of that makes any sense at all ever. It made so little sense it actually makes me really angry. lol. Wonder Woman would never agree to something like that AND "Lord" Superman has never ever indicated that he wanted something like that. Nor do I think he would have killed "Lord" Batman. Considering, the reason they're all the way they are is because they failed to save Wally. HHHH Anyway. Later comic plots I remember hating. Terry is missing and for some reason past/current timeline Tim has the Beyond suit. NGL, if you put anyone besides Terry ( MAYBE Bruce) in the suit, you've lost the plot. You don't get it. Just leave please. I will not see it. Even worse, they made Terry the main villain of that plot line. Brainwashed, but still. :') Not a fan at all of any of this.
Oh there was also a little comic that took place in the past where Barbara revealed to Bruce that she was pregnant with his baby. And Bruce urged her to get an abortion that she didn't want. First off-- I never liked the Bruce/Babs stuff in the cartoon to start with. Second-- Bruce would never. He is so dad coded. :/
And now for things I've seen in passing.
Just getting this out of the way rn--- I assume they've killed Mary McGinnis off due to the boys living with Bruce now and the way Terry talks about her. I don't typically like when series fridge their female characters but, I feel kinda indifferent kinda "Well of course they did, why am I not surprised?" about it. We really didn't get much for Mary in the cartoon besides the fact that she's a normal, caring, single mother. There's not much there. Barely got any time on screen with Terry and most of it was just lecturing him or telling him about whatever chores he needed to do. So maybe that's why it doesn't quite bother me as much as other women's deaths in comics. I still don't particularly like the move, but there are worse things I've seen so far that make me more upset. Probably would have been fine to just have Mary living there with the boys and Bruce instead tbh.
Also weird, it FEELS like everyone and their mother knows Bruce is Batman, the way everyone talks to him. Which is also just weird to me.
Anyway, Damian... Damian.... Where do I start. This one feels like the Justice Lords problem. There's already set up in the cartoon that would contradict what they did. They had Damian running the LOA from what I can tell. He still had Goliath. Which was nice I'll admit. But 1) Damian wouldn't WANT to run the LOA. 2) I highly doubt Damian would have been okay with what his grandpapa did to his mother. 3) They played it off like Bruce knew about Damian from what I saw. Bruce would never allow Damian to be raised by the LOA if he knew abt him. As I said earlier, Bruce is dad coded.
Then there's Matt. Well I like Robin Matt as a concept. I like the circumstances of it being an emergency as to why he took up the mantle, I like that Bruce recognized that if they didn't train Matt, Matt would try to do the hero stuff on his own. What I didn't like? JOKERS BACK AGAIN BABY, HERE TO BRAINWASH THE NEW ROBIN!!! Seriously, how are you gonna rehash a plotline that was already done LEAGUES better. Please let the stupid clown stay dead!!!!!!!!! That's all I got in me to rant about today. On a nicer note, I still don't know how I feel abt Batwoman, but I like that her design is very Kate Kane but with Nightwing's color palette.

Kind of weird but I truly focused on Anna and Eddie more then Buck and Taylor becuase I figured if there was an end game it was gonna be them. But now rewatching and focusing a little more on them its funny because they did the exact opposite with Buck then with Eddie and it feels intentional.
We never saw a passionate sexual side to Eddie and Anna but from the beginning that really was Buck and Taylor. If there was never a Eddie and Christopher, B&T are a couple I would ship if they gave her more development. Like not gonna lie I totally swooned a little when he picked her up in the bathroom stall. Like big men short women, come on lol. We see them in bed, her in lingerie, sharing work outs. The physical side is heavily implied if you will.
So I guess my point is they brought on carbon copies of women that were supposed to fill out the identity of them if they were straight males. Luckily I don't see them dragging this B&T out. There just isnt time especially with Maddie finally coming home. Hopefully we go straight from there to Buddie angst.
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for the ask!
Oh, that's funny, I was the exact opposite. When Ana was introduced in 312, and her introduction was so over the top "Isn't this just fate, her guessing correctly what 'Eddie' stands for? Do you see how smitten Eddie is that he became a bumbling idiot?" I worried some, but then when I saw that the show was fully uninterested in her (no follow up in 313 even though that ep did have romantic themes that could have been the perfect moment to bring Ana up, and giving her half a line in 315 and then nada for the rest of s3), even when she came back, I wasn't that concerned, because the show never bothered developing her or investing in her character.
Taylor, on the other hand, it felt like the show tried with her a bit more. They took a character from s2 who already had a strong character established, they brought her in and didn't rush to have Buck and her dating, instead they had a few eps of them just being friends, so relative to Ana, the show did invest in Taylor more. But... still not enough for me to think she can be Buck's endgame. Yeah, they gave her more time and a bit more of a background, but it all feels a bit half-assed. Like in s4, where she initially rejects Buck in 412, but we never learn why, nor are we shown in 414 a reason why she would stop worrying about whatever it was that made her initially friendzone him... "I worried about you while you were in danger" is not enough, because it doesn't explain why she turned him down in the first place. And then during all of 5a, so many of the B/T scenes are awkward, just like A/E's were in s4 and the start of s5, or even actively pointing to something being wrong (I have never seen a character looking more pained or less enthusiastic to say "I love you" for the first time... TBH, technically speaking, Buck still didn't say those exact words, he half-assed it with "Good... *weirded out expression* Love you, too"). Even the episode dedicated in part to her backstory was half-assed (so much of it was "tell" instead of "show"), that I still feel like she's not Buck's endgame and can't be with this little investment from the show. BUT I do think it's still more investment than the show has ever given Ana, so that's why, if I did worry, I would about Taylor, not Ana.
And I hear you! I'm personally a monoshipper, once I have my heart set on a couple because I feel like they make each other better and can make each other happier than anyone else could, and by the time Taylor was first introduced in 206, I was already locked on Buddie. If you look at my s2 meta, you can see why I felt that even early s2 already did a lot to cement them as the people who are right for each other. But I get you, if Buddie weren't so perfect for each other, then yes, on paper, Ana and Taylor are what they would want. Ana with her background as a school teacher that Chris loves and with her common heritage with them, and Taylor with her independent, take-no-nonsense streak, they would seem like what these men need. And yet, Buck and Eddie ARE there for each other, Buck loving Chris with his whole heart and being the kind of person you know would be so respectful of his Diaz boys' background, and Eddie being the person who tells Buck things like they are, not coddling him, but also doing it with so much fondness and support, they end up giving each other everything these female LI's on paper would have, but then they give each other even more than that! They tease and they support and they get each other and are in awe of each other like no one else ever could fill those shoes.
Thank you for this, Nonnie! Hope you don't mind the length, I got a bit emotional! Have a great day! xoxox
And if you or anyone else is looking for my other ask replies, you can find them using my ask tag. xoxox

Dazai Osamu character breakdown as I understand him
Meaning that this might be inaccurate and your opinion and visage of him might differ from mine, which is just fine. We perceive the world and the people around us through our experiences and expectations. I'm curious to know how you guys see a complex character like Dazai, just please respect everyone's opinions.
Warning: Manga plot mentions, s2 spoilers, BEAST light novel spoilers, Dazai Osamu
Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu was introduced into the scene of Bungou Stray Dogs at 14 when Mori found him.
Even at that young age, Dazai had suicidal tendencies and had been wrapped in bandages similarly as he is in the present. Already dealing with too much trauma for a child his age, the fire is fuelled as he was forced to bear witness to the death of the Port Mafia boss at the hands of Mori, the person that took him under his wing. To use him; which was becoming very apparent to Osamu if he hadn't been aware since the start. Now, I'm not saying that death of the previous boss left a particular scar on Samu, he even agrees with it and is something he himself would have done. But that that is the scene that bore fruit of the following quotes:
"Or could it be that you're afraid, Mori-san? That one day i will slit your throat and take over as the boss?"
followed by
"Everyone seems suspicious to those who have an axe to grind."
This tells us right away that he can tell what type of person you are just from the way you perceive your surroundings, which is logical, but not something many think too deep into.
Even less who have their evaluations of others on point like he does. And he has to, since Dazai's plan is always to understand his allies, his enemies, possible allies and possible enemies. He also takes into account important neutral parties that can still, in one way or another, affect the outcome of his plans or decide to align with one side out of common interest. After comes realising the main goals, along with side achievements (just in case some of those maim his allies or ruin the future plans he made) of every party. Taking in their morals and motivation, and being familiar with the ground the confrontation will happen on, he now has the view of the whole chess board and it's pieces in his head. He moves his allies in the right places, knowing how they'll react in the situation to come, and awaits the enemies with open fire arms. He was tought to think like that. At all times. Mori made sure of it. You know how specialists never really stop thinking in their areas of expertise, like doctors, for example, will naturally notice people's posture and look for scoliosis or whatever? How your foot hits the floor, if you're walking straight, your knees and shoulders, etc. Same for Dazai. His brain maps out person's expressions, reactions, choices, personality, etc. in great detail. I'm pretty sure he has eidetic memory, if his conversations in manga with Fyodor are anything to go by.
Another thing his brain does is think of worst possible outcomes.
Not in a fear of what if things go wrong, but as a possible route. He uses it to determine how big of a threat the opposing force is and what steps they'll have to take to achieve that. Knowing that, he'll know how to intercept them. Also, like everything else, it's not something he can control since we're talking about thought process here and that's just how his brain works. Can't magically turn that off. It's especially annoying to him when he's genuinely enjoying himself with, let's say, ADA members and then his brain goes brrr.
•"A lot happened recently and we're a torn in many people's eyes." *Tanizaki and Atsushi drinking punch* "There's a possibility, while a small one, about 8% at this very moment, but as time goes on will increase, that an organisation outside of Yokohama decided we're an unavoidable threat and poisoned the drinks. Don't drink that. Nothing will happen, they'll wake up tomorrow in pristine condition don't drink th-"
Yeah, i feel bad for him too.
He has PTSD and insomnia, besides the hectic brain,
so he's not getting proper amount of rest. Actually, he drinks almost every night by himself at home. Pretty sure it's canon as well, because if you search for a picture of him in his room, you'll see him surrounded by multiple bottles. Two of the PTSD symptoms are hallucinations and night terrors (no, that is not the same as a nightmare). What people usually do is use opium to cause hallucinations in a safe environment so that there's little chance of them happening uncontrolled. He's probably using alcohol to numb himself while he's reminiscing, since if he does still have hallucinations after years having passed by (which isn't impossible), they're probably few and far between. Not saying there's no chance he isn't using opium. He would know where to get what he needs, after all.
Osamu's haunted by his own actions as well, not just by trauma caused to him.
At an uncountable amount of occasions, he found himself looking into a mirror and not really comprehending his image. It was like dissociation. Looking through a fog at what's supposed to be your carbon copy, but not knowing all of your features perfectly, so whatever you're seeing could only be an impostor, yet you're not sure because that would take comprehending physical proof of your life to the fullest and how it works and he just... can't. He can but he doesn't want to. He already knows he's despicable and broken, doesn't really feel the need to see just how much. He can't, for all his perfect memory, remember the faces of the people he has killed. He hadn't even seen all of them, but he was responsible for their demise. Causing havoc and misfortune in general through other crimes besides murder as well. We've seen his expression when he listened in on Atsushi talking to Kyouka over the earpiece how the 35 deaths don't matter anymore. He knows they do and he knows that the change of heart won't justify what he's they've done. Ango thought him to value each life. But he also knows that even murderers can change and become good. Oda did that. It's also what's keeping him in the agency.
When Oda died, his last words mentioned that Dazai doesn't care about good or bad and that was correct for Dazai Osamu back then. I genuinely think that his present self does mind the difference.
He believes in necessary evil and will do dark shit to get the good outcome he's envisioned.
He doesn't separate outlaws and lawful people, however.
He knows that generally speaking, the line is thin and easy to cross and that many were born or forced into the situations they are. Those that fight the life thrown at them are an exception, not a rule. That's also why he likes Atsushi, probably the main reason. The boy has every right to hate the world and yet. Dazai is envious, he doesn't really have the same capacity.
I want now to talk about why does Dazai Osamu do what Dazai Osamu does.
The reason he attempts suicide, joined the mafia, made friends at all, is because for all his intelligence and observations, ability to understand others, he doesn't really understand himself.
He doesn't understand his worth. He doesn't understand his purpose. In all of that confusion, he finds no reason to live. He laughs but can't get the high, he bruises but can't fully heal. In all of the things people find happiness in he can't feel joy from. He is emotionally stunted. He thinks too logically. He doesn't understand actions out of emotions because to him, it doesn't make sense. Emotions cloud your mind and when you're not thinking straight, you make mistakes. Plain and simple. He just accepts it, that most people simply cannot control themselves and prefer lashing out instead of methodical approach. All the better for him, he has leverage. Even when he does act on impulse, which is incredibly rare and not as explosive and dramatic, his brain rationalises it as to why his actions were a good way to go. And if his reaction was one that bore fruit, than it was a tactical one.
"If you place yourself somewhere close to raw emotions, where you're exposed to raw violence and death, instinct and desire, you can brush against man's true nature. I though that way i could find a reason to live somehow."
From this, i can tell that he was hoping that, in a situation where he's pushed far enough, he'd realise what's important to him, what he wants to protect or destroy, what's one thing he wouldn't want to leave unsettled before dying. What is that one thing he'd regret dying before achieving? What should he fight death for. What is worth living on for? To him, it doesn't matter if that something is good or evil as long as he gets to keep it in his life.
It seems he hadn't found it exactly, but is satisfied with what he has for now, in the agency, to just keep going. But he still tries to commit suicide, hoping that one day, when the clear picture of the world around him is fading away, when he's becoming light headed from the lack of oxygen, when he's loosing control over his body and thoughts don't seem to flow well, there will be one thing, anyone, screaming at him to fight it. New day new chances. It didn't happen today, better luck tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomo-.
Now, like Mori, Dazai feels the need to, at all times, be in control of the situation. Including people.
That means no one, but perhaps Ranpo due to his own abnormal intellect, is aware of their own role. They know their mission, but they're not expecting to be given that particular one because they'll come across an obstacle they would react to in a way that would satisfy Osamu's plans.
Dazai Osamu is more of a chemist, than a chess player, if you ask me.
Throwing different people into the mix, under different conditions at different times and is noting down their reactions in safe surrounding if possible, so that when the time calls for it, he'll be able to make a perfect concoction for the predicament. A chemist and his substances; A chess player and his pawns; A puppeteer and his puppets. Now, Dazai is meticulous and never rash, but like everyone else (except effin Lovecraft what is he even) he's only human and he bleeds when he falls down and humans aren't perfect. He isn't always right. That means he makes mistakes. The issue with big shot players that control the board is that, when they fall down, everyone on their side crashes and burns as well. So the day Dazai fucks up everyone else will follow because of lack of insight on their part that's completely out of their control. All it takes is for him to underestimate or overestimate one person and chaos ensues. There is no such thing as happy little accidents small mistakes for someone like him. I have crippling anxiety and a sole thought that one hiccup could blow up in everyone's face... damn. I would try committing suicide myself. But it's his fault, he brought upon himself an obligation and pressure like that. To be fair, it was Mori that drilled that type of thinking where no one should know what you plan because they can't ruin what they don't know If they turn against you, they can't stop you.
For his own sake, and everyone else's, Dazai needs to learn how to show his cards and share the burden.
Again, going back to the emotionally stunted guy that has commitment issues (where he either can't commit or can't let go) trope.
He never outright does something good for someone where people would acknowledge it, he uses his underhanded tactics here as well.
He casually makes himself look like a bad guy, an asshole, to conveniently move attention from the inner turmoil a person is struggling with to a present problem at hand that they can fix and let their frustrations out on. But he hopes that, one day, someone just might notice his intentions for what they are and do the unspeakable- see through him.
"I'm a very private person. You don't ask, i don't tell."
Yes, and your whole existence is just a huge cry for help. He wants to be asked. He's begging for attention. A specific type of attention. One that will see him without making him feel imposed on. One that will understand his sins without making a big deal out of it. Accept him as a person he is, makes him feel like one as well. Makes him feel alive. Makes him feel... period.
The day he finds that thing is the day he completely turns his life around and fully dedicates to it. It's where the part of not being able to let go commitment issue ensues.
Since Oda's death he's been secretly keeping an eye out on possible ways to bring him back. If you've read Beast AU you know that when Dazai gets his hands on the book, he'll create a universe where Oda doesn't die. Should he find an ability user that can bring back the dead, just tell him what it will take, he's ready to destroy his own soul for it and if that isn't enough, well, he'll have no hesitation ruining theirs. After all, BEAST!Dazai Osamu never actually met Odasaku, he just had the memories he'd gotten from his canon self and that was enough for him to do everything he did.
He's incredibly selfish and has a weird come in but the door is a wall dynamic he rolls with in his self imposed solitude.
It's like the walls of the space in my brain are ugly and terrifying, so i closed off the entrance to keep myself in. I'm doing you a favour but please break the wall down and tell me it's okay to come out i don't want to be here-
Happy little thoughts woah woah yeah~
That's what i got from what I've seen of him. I may have missed some things, some things might prove to be wrong as the series progress further, but yeah.
There is, however, one more thing i want to put out here. Since Dazai was already like this before Mori found him, that begs to question as to why? What happened to him?
Now, since the characters are based on real people, is it crazy to say that Dazai Osamu has had a horrible childhood because of his father? Real life Dazai was terrified of his dad and was very intimidated by him. He always tried to stay in his good graces out of fear of punishment. Neither of his parents felt like a parent to him, actually. His father didn't care and his mother was often ill, but did care for him when she could. Both of them died eventually.
This could be the plot Kafka based Dazai's background on, but we'll have to wait and see.
