we’re only 3 episodes in but buddy daddies is already superior to lots of shows in the childcare genre by letting the child character have tantrums and be annoying to her guardians sometimes and say she needs to go pee at literally the worst moment rather than just being a cutesy moe blob designed to induce baby fever

Read "Suki, Alone". Liked it in general. But can they please, please hire someone who knows both the show's actual events and how to follow through on a character arc? Because guys. Guys. That comic is not implying about Suki what they meant it to be implying, and all because of literally one line.
So like. From a writer's standpoint:
What they meant to do: show Suki as a community-oriented person who cares for her people, and believes in everyone succeeding together.
As opposed to (spoilers): the thief girl they set her up in contrast with, who's pretty upfront and consistent on primarily looking out for herself. She betrays Suki for one (1) corn chip to improve her own life at the prison, no surprise.
But the problem is: they give Suki an inspirational line to the effect of "we're all working together and we'll all break out together"
You know
The thing she does not do in the show
So if both the show and this comic are canon, then instead of setting up a compare/contrast with the thief girl, they've just set up a comparison. One were Suki is arguably worse, because she's been leading a significant number of prisoners on with her "we'll all fight and win our freedom together!" business, only to straight up cut them out of the escape loop and abandon them, whereas the thief is only leading Suki on in the sense that Suki keeps telling her what it's morally correct to think and confuses snide replies with agreement
My dudes. My fellow writers. You people actually being paid for this. There were so many ways to fix those awful implications against our girl's character, the simplest of which would be to not include that line. Or they could have, you know, made it canon compliant with what actually happens in the show, so that this comic doesn't set Suki up as a betrayer instead of a community builder. Like... just send all her good prison buddies off to other prisons in the wake of the warden finding out they're colluding. Have it timed to be right before the next new prisoners arrive, thus setting it immediately before the Boiling Rock episodes, so Suki didn't have anyone left in the prison she'd want to take with her on a breakout. For bonus points, include a page or two of her and her Kyoshi warriors opening up the cell of one of her prison friends post-war, thus implying she's tracking down and actually fulfilling her promises. Maybe even show her doing the same with thief girl, who was established as being imprisoned on false charges anyway, and also showing that Suki is A) the bigger person, and B) willing to acknowledge her own role in mistakes (because I cannot emphasize enough how much thief girl was not hiding her own priorities, and it was Suki who approached HER with all this, not the girl ever doing anything special to weasel her way in) (this would also open up an opportunity for paralleling Suki's earlier in-comic mistake of not listening to one of her friend's very valid thoughts and feeling, which lead to the girl leaving their island alone pre-canon; a "seeing people as they are, not what you want them to be" moment)
Anyway yeah enjoyable enough for a quick read but another one for the "this can't be canon or the characters are So Much Worse than they were in the actual show" pile
At least Aang didn't promise to murder anyone in this one

Hob Gadling is such a character tbh. He was granted immortality in what can only be called a childish little bet between ethereal siblings. He loves it. He bought an inn because he didn't want his boyfriend friend acquaintance to miss their centennial date. Who is he kidding, he definitely has a boyfriend. He holds a personal grudge against William Thee Shakespeare. Life has both blessed him and thoroughly kicked his ass. He's still going strong. He had to come to terms with the fact that he has a thing for goths before that was even a thing.

[Backstory] - [First] - [Second] - [Third] - [Four] - [Five] - [Six]
I do believe that Yennefer was a constant in Babys life once she knew; even though I think she wasn't there often, because there was stuff happening (with Ciri too; on a bigger scale and sometimes more... urgent) - but she was there when it counted. Yen really went out there and said: I'M YOUR DADDY NOW.

Has anyone else mentioned the fact that we never see Husk smile until Loser, Baby? He's always frowning and just standing in the back like he doesn't want to be there (he doesn't). Perpetually pissed off. He's been miserable and drunk ever since he made that deal with Alastor. But right before the song we see him smile for the first time and once the chorus hits that smile barely leaves him for the whole song. And after that, we finally start seeing him smile more regularly. At the hotel, at the bar, wherever. Loser, Baby was the song Husk sang to help Angel stop hating himself for his mistakes and be able to enjoy his own life. Except he wasn't just telling that to Angel, he was also telling himself

I rewatched the scene where the girls find out the truth about the soul gems and Madoka's reaction really fucks me up. She honestly believed that throwing Sayaka's soul gem away would be a good idea, that she was doing that for the well-being of her friend but then, she just... shuts down. She isn't speaking, she isn't breathing anymore.
She's dead.
Madoka is not, cannot understand what is going on anymore. In one minute, Sayaka is well, about to engage in a fight with Kyoko. In the other, she's... Dead? And there's Kyubey's speech, spelling out bullshit like always and Sayaka. Oh Sayaka, she is dead.
And then her soul gem gets retrieved by Homura and she wakes up. She is alive.
Imagine the wave of relief Madoka must have felt. Her best friend, her childhood friend, someone she grew up with, shared half of her life with died because she wanted to prevent her from fighting and continuing to hurt herself furthermore. She's fine and alive.
Only to a few days later, see her dead once again. Her body is laying on the ground. She is not speaking, she is not breathing. Madoka sees Sayaka's lifeless eyes again. But this time, it's for forever. Sayaka is dead. That thing, that witch, is not Sayaka.
Sayaka is dead. Madoka saw her childhood friend die two times in such a short time and never had the chance to process it properly.

i just woke up so i haven't actually watched the pokemon direct thingy yet, but i heard they mentioned they aren't pushing out another console release at all for 2024 and if that's true then frankly THAT news is way more hype than any actual game announcement could ever be. go girl let us wait!! this is genuinely what i've been begging for for years now
like, oh a new Legends game? that's neat i guess. oh wait it's being given literally ANY time to cook and they aren't crunching Game Freak to hell and back in order to pump out a bunch of half-baked annual releases for the first time in ages?? NOW we're fuckin talking. LOVE to see the torturous cycle broken

re the palestinian bird thing: different anon here, idk what they meant but it’s worth noting that, in addition to political fuckery, that the campaign to remove the word “palestine” from the bird's name might have partially been an attempt to correct a bit of historical revisionism. the only reason that region of the world is commonly known as palestine today in the first place is because the roman empire renamed the area to “syria palaestina” after the roman-jewish wars. they had previously allowed the province to be called judea/judaea, as in jews and the jewish kingdoms that existed there before being conquered. and it wasn't until much later that the arabs now known as palestinians came to be. (disclaimer: I don't speak hebrew and can't be bothered to track down hebrew articles from a decade ago to translate by hand to fact check how much this played into the bird thing but it is a reasonable possibility and an understandable one, as jewish heritage has been so often destroyed and erased. regardless, the palestinian response to make the bird a symbol is equally understandable.) relatedly, be careful about the phrase “from the river to the sea”, because while it's sometimes about palestinian liberation, it's also often used as a dogwhistle that means “kill all jews in the levant”; and the dogwhistle version has become increasingly common as of late. look into the organization called standing together for antisemitism-free activism and jewish/palestinian solidarity.
I see what you mean, the history you mentioned seems to check out and it's unquestionably been a tumultuous part of the world that's been given a lot of different names over time. However I don't really feel comfortable in agreeing it was combating revisionism because it happened during what I understand to be a violent occupation. Without a source or truly knowing the intentions it's just kind of speculation.
"From the river to the sea" was used in that post in the context of Palestinian freedom and peace. Related to that point, I also received another ask concerned with my use of the word "zionist" as it has historically described a very wide range of ideas, and has also been used as an antisemitic dogwhistle. That was not my intent, it's the word I was most familiar with to get across my point that I don't support violence against or the erasure of Palestinian culture. Those using violence and calls for peace to excuse antisemitism are despicable. One can and should be an ally of both Palestinians and Jewish people.
I looked up Standing Together, I can certainly get behind their message of peace and cooperation, and people in Israel who are working to end the genocide deserve so much respect and admiration. It seems like reception to the movement has been mostly positive, but I feel it'd be irresponsible not to mention that the PACBI wing of the BDS movement has taken issue with it in the past week. I don't feel qualified to take a definitive stance either way, especially as I also can't read Hebrew or Arabic to get more direct contex. I encourage anyone interested to learn more and come to your own conclusions.
My overall point is that I do not support the genocide the Israeli miltary is enacting on the Palestinian people. I want to share more posts about Palestinian culture, art, and joy in a time where there is effort being made to erase it.
Finally, while I do my best to make sure what goes on this blog is accurate, I just wanna make it clear that I'm neither an expert at research, nor am I able to be a definitive resource for this topic (or frankly most things).
