heyo! i wrote and posted this on my quotev for keith’s birthday (october 23, 2020) and i finally made a tumblr for my fanfiction soo here it is!!
keith kogane x f! reader
genre: fluff and slight angst!
Tumblr media
This was what you had planned and written out coming to the Garrison.
(y/n's) Checklist: Garrison Days
Get into the Garrison✔️ extra: best friend is here too! :)
Get a license to become a co-fighter pilot extra: we're getting there!
Make new friends!✔️ extra: pidgeon, lancelot, and sunshine :D
Graduate!
Okay, granted, it's a bit short, but nevertheless it's straightforward and guaranteed to not knock you off course.
Although, this was the list that she seemed to be following at the moment.
(y/n's) Mental Bullshit Checklist
Fall in love with your best friend✔️
Sneak out of the Garrison basically every night to meet up with said best friend who just so happened to be expelled✔️
Fall in love with your best friend✔️
Keep secrets from your other best friends✔️
oh and FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND
✔️
Can't forget that checkmark.
You sighed.
'Damn him and his pretty face.'
Sighing once more, you flopped backward against your bed holding your phone out away from your face staring at the time.
11:23 p.m.
'It's still early. I'm not meeting up with Keith for at least another half hour.'
You frowned at your phone.
'I wish time would go faster. Or better yet, just skip this.'
You put the phone down opting to stare at the ceiling instead. Frankly, you were exhausted. Keith always ends up keeping you up till the very early hours of the morning, just before daybreak, leaving you with a small amount of sleep.
'I mean we do this basically every night. It wouldn't hurt to bail on him just this once right? It's not like we end up finding any clues about Shiro or "the energy source".'
Frowning again at the thought of your lost older brother figure, you closed your eyes and placed your right forearm against your eyes, leaving your other hand against your stomach holding your phone.
'A quick nap wouldn't hurt now would it?'
You shut your eyes slowly and then you were out like a light.
You awoke to light knocking at your door.
Opening your eyes slowly, you stared up at the ceiling, and you wait until your eyes get adjusted to the dim lighting of your room.
'Wait a damn minute.'
You frantically sit upright looking for your phone before spotting it on the floor. You immediately grab it before widening your eyes in horror.
12:46 a.m.
'Shit.'
*knock knock knock*
The knocking of the metal door snapped you back into your senses, making you rush all over the room fixing your appearance while simultaneously packing a small bag.
*knock knock knock*
'There's no fucking way Keith broke into the Garrison. There's no fucking way he's outside my door. No fucking way.'
'Guess we'll just have to find out.'
Taking a big deep breath, you allow the metal door to open.
And you end up staring into the blue orbs of your flirtatious best friend Lance McClain.
A sigh of relief passes in between your breath and you smile as you lean against the frame of your door only then noticing Hunk's panicky presence behind the lanky male. Ignoring his nervousness, you wave at the soon to be yellow paladin, with him exchanging a fidgety smile and wave in return.
Taking note of your sigh and smile, Lance speaks up with a cocky, goofy grin on his face.
"Woah there pretty lady, happy to see me?~"
Rolling your eyes with an equally goofy grin on your face you respond.
"Ha! In your dreams McClain."
"But you're always in my dreams (y/n)!" he replies cheekily.
Playfully shoving the tall teen backward, you stifle a laugh. You always enjoy your time with Lance; it's always been like this, the playful banter, everything. Even since you met as kids at the Garrison.
"Okay! Okay! Jeez (n/n) so violent."
Rolling your eyes again, you take another look at the best friend duo before asking, "So, care to tell me why you're here in front of my dorm at like one in the morning?"
Lance opens his mouth only to have Hunk shove the both of you back into your room with him following and the metal door shutting behind the three of you.
Lance not liking how he was treated so roughly, started to whine, "Hunkkkk what was that forrr- MPPFH," only to get interrupted by Hunk placing a hand on both of your mouths.
"SHHH! We have to be quiet you guys," Hunk lowers his voice, "I heard a guard walking down the other hallway, I think he might turn the way next! Oh wait! I hear him shhhhh"
The three of you stood still and quiet as you hear the footsteps of the guard get closer and closer until eventually fading.
After that very close call, you all sigh in relief as you had done a few minutes prior.
Suddenly remembering the conversation from a few minutes ago also made you become more aware of the time. Taking a look at the clock on your dresser, you curse under your breath.
12:57 a.m.
Quickly taking out your phone from your satchel, you curse again seeing the missed calls and text messages from Keith.
57 missed calls & 6 unread messages

where are you?

(y/n) answer.
sent 12:07 a.m.
(y/n) pick up the damn phone! I know you're tired and I always drag you out late but come on pick up.
sent 12:09 a.m.
Okay, okay I'm sorry. Don't be mad at me.
sent 12:10 a.m.
(y/n) damn it. Now's not the time to be mad at me or to be sleeping. I think we might actually find something this time, I can feel it.
sent 12:15 a.m.
Fine then. I'll go on my own this time.
sent 12:17 a.m.
Ah shit. The only time Keith texts you first, and it's because you were being an idiot and accidentally bailed on him. Now he thinks that you've ditched him. Knowing him, he's gonna feel way more upset than you think because of what happened with his mom, dad, and Shiro.
'Ah I fucked up this time didn't I?'
Breaking out of your thoughts, you realize that you have guests at the moment.
You whispered yelled at the two taller boys, "What are you two doing here?!"
Lance sulked, "Aw (n/n) I could've sworn you were happy to see us like five minutes ago."
"That was before you almost got me in trouble!"
And that's coming from the girl who sneaks out of the Garrison on a daily basis. But they don't need to know that.
Not yet at least.
Hunk (bless his soul) interrupts Lance once more as he opens up his mouth, "Lance here wants to do some "team bonding" so we were going to get both you and Pidge, but we saw Pidge run out of his dorm, but we still needed to get you and this is the worst team-building exercise ever."
Ahh that's right.
The four of you got scolded today after failing the simulation.
Hunk puked, Pidge removed his (you're still doubting if he is really a he, but no judgment there) safety harness, and Lance crashed the jet. You on the other received praise from Iverson after attempting to pull a safer (cough cough Lance) emergency landing, and trying to pull the team together.
Well, it's your job as the co-pilot to keep Lance in check, just like how you attempted to keep Keith in check. All your teachers and other friends warned you about sticking close to Keith. They never did understand that you two had a close bond.
You two grew up together after all.
--
"Seriously (l/n) stay away from Kogane. You're a bright kid, you got real skill. Don't get mixed up with that troublemaker."
You look down as Commander Iverson speaks to you.
"Well go along, break will be over soon enough. See you in class."
He walks down the hallway as Keith approaches you carefully as he enters from the other side of the nearby wall.
"You can stop you know. You always get in trouble for sticking with me. I'll understand." He says in a low voice looking down.
You, on the other hand, shoot your head up and quickly wrapping your arms around him surprising the young teen.
"Are you dumb?! I'd never leave you Keith! We'll go through thick and thin together remember?! If anything, you might be the one leaving me! You move too fast you might just leave me behind!" you exclaim while squeezing him tighter fully aware of the growing blush on your face.
He lightly laughs before wrapping his arms around your smaller frame squeezing you just as tight.
"Don't worry (y/n), I don't plan on it."
You refuse to let him go as you don't want him to see your red face, not knowing that he hasn't let go for the same reason.
--
As you both got older, around the disappearance of Shiro, Keith gets expelled, but the both of you still manage to keep in touch seeing as you frequently sneak out.
"Why don't you two go ahead? I was just about to get some shut-eye, so tell me how it goes tomorrow okay?"
Yes, sleep would be pretty nice, but in reality, you needed them to get out of here so you can find Keith.
Please say okay, please say okay, please say okay.
Scrunching his eyebrows, Lance denies your request, "What? No! You're part of the team, we need you there!"
'Damn it.'
--
Before you know it, you find yourself on the roof checking out Pidge's equipment.
"Stop touching my equipment!"
You and Hunk pouted.
--
Now, you find yourself and the other three spying on an alien ship on a small ledge after hearing the emergency lockdown announcement at the Garrison.
You blinked.
"Hmm hey, Lance?"
"Yes (y/n)?"
"Why the hell are we here?"
Lance stopped looking through the binoculars to look up at you.
"We need to find out what's going on! But we'll never get past those guards to take a look."
Pidge types away on his computer.
Hunk sighs, "Aww yeah, I guess there's nothing else but to get back to the barracks right?" and he gets up from his crouching position and starts to leave.
'Good idea Hunk.'
As you yourself start to head back, Pidge speaks up.
"Wait they set up a camera in there and I picked up its feed. Look."
The three of you gather around Pidge, only for your breath to hitch and for tears to start gathering in the corner of your eyes.
'Shiro?'
You think back to Keith's message.
"I think we might actually find something this time, I can feel it."
'Damn it, I hate it when he's right. I need to text Keith.'
You snap back into reality to dig through your bag only to hear Lance say, "No, what we need is a distraction."
As if on cue, a series of explosions go off in the distance.
'Oh no Keith I swear to God.'
"Ahh are those the aliens?! Are they here?! They got here so quick!"
Hunk continues to freak out, but Pidge interrupts him.
"No, those explosions were a distraction! For him. The Garrison is heading towards the blast, while he's sneaking through the other side!"
You could recognize that red hoverbike anywhere.
So, you quickly make your way down the small ledge ignoring the shouts of your friends.
"(y/n)! Wait! Oh that guy is always trying to one-up me!"
Lance quickly runs after you.
"Who is it?" Hunk asks.
"Keith!"
"What?! Are you sure?!" Hunk is quick on Lance's heels.
By now, you're way ahead of the three.
"Who?!" Pidge questions.
"(y/n)'s boyfriend!"
But not far enough to not hear that.
"I heard that Lance!"
--
(y/n's) Mental Bullshit Checklist
Find your lost brother figure✔️
Get chased by the Garrison✔️
Realize that your bestest friend might be mad and hurt because of you✔️
Today is just not your day.
*A few minutes prior*
"Nope, no, n-n-no no you don't. I'm saving Shiro."
As Lance makes his way over to Keith and Shiro, you find yourself locking your (e/c) eyes with Keith's purple ones.
His eyes widened, not noticing Lance taking Shiro's other arm.
'Wait. Is that a metal prosthetic?'
"(y/n)?"
Snapping back into reality, (you seem to be spacing out a lot recently) you try and wrap yourself around this delicate situation.
Keith thinks you abandoned him on something that means a lot to him.
Keith is possibly mad at you.
Keith finds Shiro only for you, Lance, Hunk, and Pidge to barge in.
Keith might be thinking you left him alone for those three.
Keith looks hurt.
Your already teary eyes soften along with your voice, "Keith I-", only to get cut off by Keith himself.
"Who are you?" he quetions looking at Lance.
'Ouch.'
'I guess I deserved that.'
"Who am I? Uhh the name's Lance?"
Lance blinks waiting for Keith to recognize him. When he doesn't he speaks again.
"Uhh we were in the same class in the Garrison."
Keith still not recognizing him asks, "Really? Were you an engineer?"
Lance tired of his confusion clarifies, "What no. I'm a pilot. We were like rivals. You know, Lance and Keith neck and neck, and with (y/n) breaking up all our fights."
You deadpan at the brown-haired boy.
'Does he mean those petty fights where Keith doesn't acknowledge him, and I end up dragging him away?'
As if suddenly remembering, Keith says, "Oh wait I remember you. You're a cargo pilot."
"Well not anymore, I'm fighter class now thanks to you washing out."
Keith being Keith sarcastically congratulates him.
"Seriously, how are you (y/n)'s bestest friend?! You don't even know anything about her other best friends? And what's with the attitude?! I swear! I always tell her to stay away! You're a bad influence on her!"
You warn the blue-eyed boy, "Lance..."
"What?! I'm just trying to look out for you!"
*Flashback end*
Now, the five of you along with an unconscious Shiro are all on Keith's red hoverbike with the Garrison hot your trail.
Keith's driving, you're behind him, behind you is Lance, the Pidge and Shiro, and finally Hunk in the back.
Hunk's panicky voice carries through the air, "Oh man, Mr. Harris just wiped out Mr. Montgomery! No no, he's fine."
Keith speaks to you without looking back, "(y/n) hold on."
You quickly wrap your arms around his masculine chest.
'At least he isn't that mad to ignore me completely.'
"Big man lean right!"
Hunk quickly listens and leans right guiding the overworked machine to the right making it jump to another rock structure. That maneuver efficiently stops one of the two Garrison vehicles chasing you.
Your heart is pounding realizing that you're all heading towards a cliff.
"Uhh guys?!" Hunk promptly points out what you've just been dreading. "Is that a cliff up ahead?!"
You hear the screaming of your teammates behind you and Keith leans forward forcing you to do the same. He grips and twists the handlebars making the bike speed up while confirming Hunk's question.
"Yup."
You don't even have to look at him to know he has that hot stupid smirk on his face.
'Damn it. My heart just skipped a beat, and it's not because we're falling off a cliff.'
Lance continues to scream at Keith.
"What are you doing?! You're gonna kill us all!!"
Not giving Keith the time to respond, you answer Lance with your own yell while squeezing your eyes shut and squeezing Keith even tighter.
"Lance just shut up and trust him!"
Smoothly maneuvering his bike, Keith "lands" back on solid ground and zooms away.
You guys were alive.
Barely.
But that's beside the point.
(y/n's) Mental Bullshit Checklist
Save Shiro✔️
Almost get caught by the Garrison✔️
Almost die falling off a cliff✔️
Feel Keith's masculine chest✔️
--
You, Shiro, and Keith look at the sky as the sun begins to rise.
Once again, you blank out as you try to wrap your head around what had happened in the past few hours, missing Shiro and Keith's conversation and Shiro calling out your name.
 "(-/n)"
"(y/n)"
"(y/n)!"
A sudden shake of your shoulder snapped you back into reality, making you turn your head towards Shiro who was looking at you worriedly and Keith who was looking down and his feet.
'Ah.'
'He's still upset.'
"Are you feeling okay (y/n)?" Shiro asks worriedly.
You look up at him, with a smile on your face and you cheerfully answer his question.
"Ahh Shiro, you haven't changed, always acting like a dad huh? If anything I should be asking you that question!"
His face showed mild surprise but then he chuckled and ruffled your hair making you squeal.
"You haven't changed much either (y/n). I'll be heading inside, are you two okay out here or are you gonna follow?"
Once again your focus falls on the rising sun.
"Nah, I think I'll just stay here for a bit longer. I can meet you guys in there a bit later."
"Okay, just be careful. You Keith?"
"I think I'll stay here a bit longer too. You can go meet up with the others."
You inwardly flinched. The two of you were going to be alone.
"Alright, I'll head back inside."
Now, it was just the two of you.
A light breeze past by, and you shivered. It was only then you realized you didn't have a jacket.
'I guess I didn't realize it was cold with everything going on.'
Your thoughts were once more interrupted by something getting draped around your shoulders.
Your eyes widened and you look over your shoulder to see Keith looking away from you now only in his black v-neck shirt.
You bashfully look away as you hold the collar of his jacket close so it stays on your shoulders, with your left arm hugging your body to keep the warmth. You mutter a quiet thanks only to have been met with silence.
It was like that for a while, until you couldn't help but speak.
"Keith I can-"
"Why were you with them?"
With your body now turned as to get a good look at him, you frowned as you process his question and because he still wouldn't look at you.
"Keith, they're my team, even if I didn't want to, I'd still go anyway. They're my best friends Keith you have to understa-"
"Are we not a team? Are we not best friends?"
You visibly irk as you get interrupted yet again.
"I never said that."
"You were thinking it."
"Dammit Keith! Let me talk!"
The purple-eyed boy finally turns to look at you with an agitated look on his face.
"Why should I?! You'll just leave like how everyone else did! It won't matter."
Frankly, you were hurt. Did he really think that you'd just leave him after years of memories and a childhood of growing up alongside each other? But, you understood why he was so upset. He was scared.
Not wanting to lose your childhood friend and your first love, you try and defuse the situation.
"Keith, I understand why you're so agitated right now, it's okay, I understand, I know-"
"Know what (y/n)?! You know nothing! You don't know anything! You don't understand anything!"
It's a good thing the both of you were at a far enough distance away from his shack.
He slowly walks towards you waving around his hands and arms to show how agitated he really was.
"What made you think you knew anything?!"
"Our friendship! Our trust! Our bond! Our everything Keith! Did any of that even matter to you?!"
"I don't think it mattered to you! If it did, you wouldn't have abandoned me! Especially since this was important to me!"
You couldn't believe your damn ears. You scoffed before yelling back, not caring about the tears starting to fall.
"I didn't fucking abandon you Keith! And don't you dare think that this thing was only important to you! Shiro means just as much to me and much as he does to you!"
"Then why the hell did you not show up?!"
"For God's sake, I was sleeping! Call it a lame excuse I don't care! Keith, I'm tired. Every single fucking day we're out till fucking daybreak. On top of that, I have class! I have training! It's fine for you because you don't even go to school anymore! You can sleep all day then explore all night! Me? I run every single day with less than four hours of sleep. It's a fucking blessing to even get one. I understand that you're scared! Cause I am too! We grew up together Keith! Do you know how devastated and worried I was after you got expelled?! I thought that was the end for us! Here you are yapping that you have it rough, that I abandoned you, and some other bullshit while I have it just as bad!"
Your voice was raw and cracking, tears streaming down your face, eyes starting to puff up, but at this point you didn't care. You didn't care if the others could hear you, you didn't care that Keith stopped yelling, you didn't care that his eyes finally softened and weren't sharp and spiteful anymore, you didn't care.
You didn't care because you felt your heart break. You want him to know. You want him to know how much you struggle every day, but most of all you want him to know how much you cared. You want him to know how much you care for him even if he doesn't really understand right now, even if he doesn't care for you as much as you do you, or if he doesn't care for you the way you want him to. You wanted him to know that you loved him. Him and only him. Even at the risk of rejection.
"(y/n)..."
"No! I listened to you, now you listen to me Keith Kogane! I understand that I hurt you! I understand that you have trust issues and that you don't want anyone to get too close only for them to leave, I understand! You don't want me to be another repeat of the people in the past; your mom, your dad, Shiro! I understand more than you think! I care about you so much so Keith...please."
At this point, Keith looked like he was going to cry too, and Keith never cries in front of you anymore.
"(Y-y/n) I-I didn't know. I-I'm sor-"
You stop him right there.
"Keith, you have nothing to apologize for. You didn't know cause I didn't tell you, I never wanted to tell you but but oh my God fuck. Keith, it's because I love you!"
There. It's out in the open. No going back now.
"I love you more than friends, more than best friends, more than siblings, Keith I love you with all of my heart! And it hurts so much seeing you like this. I don't need you to love me back, what I need you to do is to trust me. To trust me with everything you've got because there's no way in hell I'm going to get up and walk away from your life. I will always be there for you. I'm your best friend. Through thick and remember?"
You're choking on your own words, and your voice trembled with every other word you've said but it doesn't matter now. You did it. You confessed. Maybe now, your heart can be at peace.
You look up at the boy you've grown to love and you take a good look at him. His long dark locks, his captivating purple eyes, everything.
You take a good look because you believe that this is going to be the last good one you'll have. The last one before he'll shy away from you. But that's okay. It's okay because you'll always be there for him even if he won't be there for you.
You remove his jacket from your shoulders and gently take his hands placing the jacket into them. You feel his eyes on you and you look up at him placing a gentle smile on your features. You watch as his tear-streaked face looks at yours with so many emotions. More emotions than you've ever seen on him.
Your hands never left his and with one last act of bravery, you lean up and kiss his cheek.
You gently pull your hands out of his, and turn towards his shack.
You turn around and bravely smile at him and say, "I'll be heading back inside now okay? If you need anything, you know who to find."
You turn back around and you slowly walk away with one of your hands covering your mouth to cover up your soft sobs. You just really wanted a hug, and you plan on getting four big ones.
As for Keith, Keith can't seem to move.
Don't get mixed up, no no he isn't frozen because he couldn't believe his best friend just confessed to him.
Well actually that was one of the reasons, but that's not important right now.
Your confession and love? Oh boy, he thought that was only a crazy, hopeless dream. Something that he could've never thought would happen.
Let's face it, the boy's in love with you.
Head over heels really.
How could he not be?
You were a godsend in his eyes. You were kind to basically person that you've met, you're compassionate, you're intelligent, and so much more. Your good looks were only a bonus. And one of the most important things was that you were always there.
You were there to defend him, you were there to comfort him, you there to just be with him.
You were always there. You were there when he cried over his mom, you were there when his dad died, you were there when he found out about Shiro. You were right, the two of you went through thick and thin.
Getting back to the point, he couldn't seem to move was because he hurt you.
Yes, Keith can be an ass, but he's always made sure not to accidentally hurt you in any way shape, or form, but he did.
Seeing you with Lance, Hunk, and Pidge hurt. It stung like hell, but after what just happened, he knowing what he just did hurt far worse, but it hurt just a little bit more realizing that you would've probably planned on not letting him know about your struggles and pain ever. But, something changed, something changed your mind, so you told him.
Just like you wanted, you put your feelings and inner turmoils out in the open, and now he knows.
Seeing you standing there, pouring your feelings out to him voice raw and filled with emotions tears rapidly falling down your face, your trembling body, it, it was just too much for him.
And after you said that if he needed something, anything, he could go find you; it made him realize how he truly doesn't deserve you.
Yes, he has thought of it before. He can't help it with what seems like every single person in existence telling you that he's bad news or their doubts of him, and with his own insecurities. Truth be told, their words always end up right back into his head, no matter how long it's been.
"Stay away from Kogane"
"Don't get mixed up with that troublemaker."
'You don't deserve her.'
"(y/n) is that guy really your friend? He seems like he's a cold person."
"(y/n) that guy is trouble! Why do you hang out with him?!"
'She's too good for you.'
"Seriously, how are you (y/n)'s bestest friend?!"
"I always tell her to stay away! You're a bad influence on her!"
But even with all those words meant to scare you away, you stayed. He couldn't help but remember the words you told him long ago.
"Are you dumb?! I'd never leave you Keith! We'll go through thick and thin together remember?!"
It was then when Keith made his decision.
--
You were almost at the front door. Surprisingly not one of the four boys three actually, but you didn't know that yet checked outside after all that yelling. Not like they heard any of it
You were lost in your thoughts. Thoughts about Keith, your past, your pain, who would give the most comforting hug right now probably Hunk when someone I wonder who it could be grabbed your wrist and tugged you back so you would be facing him.
Knowing who it was you kept your eyes shut as if you didn't, you knew you were going to cry.
But Keith was stubborn. You of all people know that better than anyone.
"(y/n) look at me."
Keith was stubborn but it didn't mean that you weren't too.
Keith's voice cracked.
"(y/n) please."
Your resolve wavered, and it seems your hesitation was obvious as Keith softly spoke, "You don't have to say anything, I just want you to hear what I have to say."
You hesitantly opened your eyes and you could already feel your eyes watering again.
Keith's entire being seemed to deflate soften at your state.
"Okay, I know I don't deserve you, much less deserve you taking your time to listen to me right now but I just want you to know that I love you."
Your eyes widened. You weren't sure what you were expecting but it certainly wasn't that.
"Keith, if you're just saying that to-"
"(n/n) I promise you that I'm not just saying it because you said it to me. I'm saying it because I truly do love you."
Your voice was stuck in your throat and you gently shake off his hold on your wrist. You opt for wrapping your arms around yourself.
Your glassy eyes showed confusion and panic.
"I-I don't understand," you shakily argued.
"(y/n) you've always been there for me and that's something I will always be grateful for, and it's one of the many reasons why I fell for you."
You didn't respond. Instead, you continued to listen to him. You listened to him because he was allowing himself to be vulnerable.  Even Keith was surprised by his own actions. Yes, times and times again has this broken boy show you his vulnerability, but he always made the effort to do so in a private setting.
Not right outside his door with his brother figure and three strangers waiting for him inside.
Keith gently tilts his head, "(y/n)..."
"Thank you. Thank you so much."
You softly gasped, not expecting the purple-eyed boy to give you his thanks.
From your angle you see a small smile on the boy's face which make your eyes water even more than they already have and your tears once again fall down your face, but at a slower speed.
"I will always appreciate you, and I will always be grateful for all the things you've done for me growing up. I love you. I love you so much, but I'm so sorry that I've been hurting you all this time. I understand if you'd rather go out with Lance seeing as he looks out for you-"
You cut him off with a tight hug that is filled to the brim with love, affection, and warmth. So much warmth. Keith is remain frozen not knowing what to do.
He wants to hug you so badly, but remains from doing so because he doesn't want to hurt you again, but he hears you mumble something that gives him so much reassurance, so much that he forgets all about his insecurities involving you.
"It's okay, Keith. We're okay."
With that, Keith's eyes start to glisten and he gives in and just lets go of reality for a moment to hug you. To hug you and let his tears fall because he knows he's safe with you.
That you are his home and he is yours in return.

"Are you two getting inside or not?! We kinda have an alien problem on our hands!!"
You and Keith jolt out of your hug not expecting to be interrupted by your team pilot at such a vulnerable bonding moment. The both of you turn your heads to see Lance sticking himself out the window shaking his fist into the air as if he was an old geezer yelling at little kids to get off his lawn.
You see Keith visibly irk and you sweat drop seeing Lance duck back inside closing the window letting out a small shriek.
"Remind me to stab him later."
You look up at the boy who's still glaring at the now closed window and softly chuckle before letting out a small "don't" but a teeny weensy small side of you secretly not minding the planned assault.
You hoped Lance knew how dodge.

Well since you asked so nicely, here is everything I wrote so far :’))
There was one memory Lance kept going back to whenever the world around him seemed too real. It was a long time ago, but he remembered it like it was yesterday.
He was back in Cuba, sitting on his surfboard on the mellow waves, his knees on either side as he stared up at the stars. He was 10 years old, and had yet to hear about the phenomenal school that was the Galaxy Garrison that would spark the beginning of his destiny. Now he was just a simple, normal citizen of Cuba, riding the dancing water and tracing the lights in the sky with his Tìo.
His tio, for all his remarkable self, was a strange man, and Lance had always thought so. It wasn’t in the way he spoke or gestures or walked or anything like that. It was in the things he said, sometimes, to seemingly just Lance.
Once he had thrown Lance one look and said, “I have only one debt, and that is to the stars.” What he had been doing to make him say that was the part he didn’t remember, but it wasn’t the important part.
His tio was his mother’s brother, but even she couldn’t make sense to what he was saying. When he had asked Raquel if she had heard him say anything like that, she’d shaken her head and looked at him as if he was crazy.
“You probably just dreamt it.” She’d said, but Lance was sure it hadn’t been his imagination.
“No way! My dreams are nothing like that.”
“You can’t control your dreams, tonto. Besides, Tio hardly ever speaks, and for him to say something like that is just downright loco.”
But Lance wasn’t convinced. He hadn’t really noticed until then that Rachel was right about one things though. His tio hardly ever spoke, but Lance had just chalked that up to adulthood. He had thought that the more you grew up, the less you needed to say. But now that he thought about it, his mother didn’t seem to hold back on any words whatsoever. Not to mention the very expressive way she spoke with her hands, that Lance had inherited. It was hardly believable that they were related.
“The stars are calling you again, eh?” He said now, staring at Lance, who was in turn staring at the stars. It was one of his favourite pass times, and his tio was one of his favourite people to do it with.
He wanted to ask what he meant, but he knew it was no use. Ever since Raquel had come with that comment, he’d begun to see that his tio was a man of few words. Lance had never heard him repeat himself and he knew it was futile to ask him of it now.
He’d said to Lance once, when he’d held a gun for the first time, that a man should think like he only has one bullet left in his holster. “One target. One shot. Once you pull the trigger there is no going back.” He was starting to think he wasn’t only applying that to his shooting.
So, Lance shrugged as an answer to his question. When his tio got like this, usually late into the night, Lance didn’t know what to say to him, most of the time. It was like he expected something from Lance, but Lance had no idea what, much less how to give it to him.
Nevertheless his tio nodded sagely, like Lance’s shrug told him everything he couldn’t say with words. His feet were wading the water under them calmly, causing small ripples that rocked Lance a little, like a soothing lullaby. He asked, “Leandro, how do they make you feel?”
Lance tore his eyes from the constellation his mother had named Orion, tilting his head. “Huh?” But it was useless, he knew, because his tio, instead of repeating himself, turned back to the night sky.
His eyes turned soft, and he breathed deep as if he could smell the galaxy from here if only he breathed deep enough.
Lance, feeling again like his tio was expecting something he didn’t know how to give, poked the water a couple of times. Once there, once here. And before he knew it, he was tracing his finger in the same shape as the constellation. The water rippled until his fingers stilled, and Lance saw that the Orion he had drawn was mirrored in the water.
How did the stars make him feel? How would he know? He was ten.
“What am I supposed to feel?” He asked instead, as he started tracing Andromeda in the water. When the image got too blurry he paused his finger to let the water still before he continued.
“You’ll know when you know, Lancito.” His voice was a soft timber in the quiet of the night, and Lance thought about how his tio was probably the closest he came to a father.
He listened to him breathe for a while, feeling a weird sensation in the crest of his chest, tucked somewhere deep inside that he didn’t know how to name. And lance, when he had added the last star to Andromeda, said, “Tio?”
He hummed in answer, not taking his eyes off of the stars.
“How did you know you wanted to work at the range?”
His tio looked at him in question. Just like how he was a man of few words, he also never said anything unnecessary.
Lance swallowed and looked away, suddenly feeling the need to fiddle with his fingers. “It’s just that at school, they asked us what we wanted to be in the future and I have no idea. Raquel knows she wants to be a teacher, and Marco has that internship and Veronica has been at that flying school a million years. But I have no idea what I want to be. What I want to do.” He looked up at his tio desperately, but he was only looking back as if he was deep in thought. “The only thing I’m sorta good at is shooting and fútbol. Do you think I should work with you, at the range?”
His tio seemed suspended in time, his body so still he caused no ripples in the sea below them. The wind carried his hair; it was dark brown, like Lance’s mother’s, like his father’s. Like his own.
And then slowly, his tio shook his head. The wind carried his voice like it would the single petal of a dandelion. He said, “Your place is not here, mijo. I think you know, deep inside you, where you belong.”
And then he said, “There is a part of you that is still sleeping. Once you wake it, that’s when you’ll know.”
He really hated his mysticism sometimes. He wished he could be a little clearer in what he meant, but then he thought about how he would feel if someone wished he could just understand things in a normal way. Lance had noticed he needed the extra step to understand certain things, elaborations if you will, but he didn’t think that’s the part his tio was talking about.
No, when Lance finally understood what his tio had meant, he’d stood on the frontlines of an intergalactic war.
***
When Lance had first laid eyes on the castle he’d thought, now that’s a house. He envisioned himself laid back with his hands resting behind his head, being fed grapes by the very attractive subjects that served him as he kicked back and relaxed like a king. He thought that the castle was his dream in reality, laid out bare for his very own eyes to see.
The other’s hadn’t been as impressed. More likely, they had been scared shitless. When he looked at Keith he saw only stone cold exterior. He bet himself that Keith was thinking the exact same thing he was. Too bad this was Lance’s dream, and he was going to seize it for himself.
The Blue Lion ship had really helped with his confidence. With that machinery, a weapon answering only to his command, he was basically unstoppable. He had the world at his feet, the stars in his hair. No one, not even Keith, could take that from him.
Shiro had taken charge, but he was okay with that. He knew what he was doing, and honestly, what is a dream without some comrades to die for, right? He had his best friend, his midget of a communications officer, and his rival in the same boat. There was no adventure, if he had no one to share it with.
The others looked around while Lance tinkered with the central controls in the room they were in. He pushed a few buttons and then laid his hand on the handprint, almost missing the hissing machinery that resulted from his improvising.
And boy, did he want to share his dreams.
When he had first laid eyes on Allura, a falling princess, landing in his arms, he’d thought, now that’s a woman. He envisioned them both sitting together, laughing together, standing at the alter as his family cheered him on, and Lance was wearing the biggest smile in the universe, really, NASA could capture it with their satellite. He thought that Allura was his dream come true, a fair maiden falling into his arms.
She was like a memory pulled from his mind.
A strong one, and quite hurtful.
“Ow, ow, ow! Careful, my skin is very delicate!”
The princess did not let up her hold on his ear, and he tried not to hear the snigger he knew was coming from Pidge.
***
“This castle must be ancient.” The hallways were so empty and wide his voice was carried across the distance. He whistled to test out the acoustics. He heard his own tune for another ten seconds before it disappeared further down the hall.
“100.000 years to be exact!” Coran said cheerily behind him. His voice carried far, too.
The first tour around the castle wasn’t very impressive. All of the doors were closed and it looked like no one had walked down these halls forever — which he supposed no one had, now that he thought about it. The control panels and light bulbs beside and above every door, respectively, were covered in dust.
With Allura walking down the hall in front of them though, the light turned on, running like veins horizontically along the wall until the hallway disappeared beyond the eye could see. These hallways were massive. Lance thought it’d be quite lonely for only two people.
“Amazing,” Pidge gushed, staring unblinkingly at the lights that turned on. Allura looked over her shoulder to smile kindly at him.
Hunk squinted at the lights, too, and poked them with his pointer finger. “How exactly does that work? I don’t see any electricity outlets.”
Coran laughed loudly, the sound of his merry filling the entire hallway. Lance thought it sounded a bit like his tio. “Oh, the simple human and their wonders,” he said. He wiped a tear from the corner of his eye. “The castle’s power source, my young earthling, is connected to Allura’s energy. She is the only one who can control this ship and everything in it with her alchemy.”
“Alchemy?” Pidge piped up, sidling alongside Coran. “As in equivalent exchange?”
“Wait, wait, wait. How were we then able to get in with the Lion ship?” Hunk asked, touching the light along the walls.
Honestly, Lance was getting bored with their conversation. Blah, blah, something about Altean magic, and ancient knowledge, whatever. What Lance wanted to know was what was behind all of these doors. There were so many, Lance doubted each of them housed an Altean court person back in the day.
He walked to the nearest door and squinted at the control panel beside it. The inscription was in Altean, which he obviously couldn’t read, but there was also a very big red button. He wondered if…
The doors whooshed open the second he pressed the button on the panel. Inside was what Lance would assume was the Altean equivalent of a broom closet. It was bigger than his house. Like massive. How many bathrooms was the toilet paper in this closet supposed to cover?
He turned around to keep walking, when he stopped in his tracks. Everyone was staring at him.
At the sound of the doors opening, Coran had stopped talking immediately about something or other, Lance wasn’t really paying attention. Allura was also looking at him and the door, seeming in shock.
Lance raised his arms and took two steps away from the door. “It wasn’t me, I didn’t do anything.”
No one said a word, for a while. Shiro was looking between Coran and Allura, probably to try and figure out what they were thinking, or if this had been inappropriate somehow. Keith looked about ready to downright murder Lance.
After some time of staring very intensely at Lance, Coran hummed and stroked his moustache. “The controls must be rustier than I thought. It has been 10.000 years…” he muttered, more to himself than anyone. He must have decided it wasn’t worth mulling over, his wrist flicking like he was swatting the topic away. “Anyway,” he continued walking, “so the crystals in this castle…”
And that was that. Allura and Coran kept walking, and Shiro, sensing there were no consequences happening, started to walk, too, prompting everyone else to follow his lead.
Lance breathed a sigh of relief, and made sure to close the door before he followed with them.
“Stop touching stuff, you’re going to get us in trouble,” Keith hissed beside him. He must have slowed his pace to Lance’s. Just to tell him off? Tch, Lance didn’t think so.
“Relax, Mullet,” he answered and pocketed his hands in his jeans. “These people aren’t going to harm us. I mean, look at how gorgeous— I mean forgiving the princess was.”
“We’re in the middle of space with flying cat ships that are controlled by the very people that could incinerate us in a matter of seconds, or did you forget?” He added, “And it’s not a mullet!”
Lance shrugged. “Ay, stop being so paranoid. If you tighten up any more you’ll probably die a non-heroic death by boredom.”
“I don’t care about that.”
“And that will be your downfall. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“What? That doesn’t even make any sense!”
***
*lance and hunk sneaking out of the garrison to go clubbing. Lance stops and stares at the stars. Maybe something happened earlier with Keith.*
“You okay, man?”
“Huh? Yea, was just thinking of something my uncle said once.”
“About space? Whatd he say?”
“I don’t even know, man, he didn’t make a lot of sense. It doesn’t matter, let’s go meet some girls WOO!!”
***
“How do you keep doing that?”
“Doing what? I’m just pressing buttons.”
“Yeah, that open doors that aren’t supposed to open.”
“Maybe the castle just likes me the best.”
“Yeah, right.”
“Enough talk. Let’s swim, mullet! I’ll race ya!”
***
The thing about the Galra is that they are both persistent and resourceful, and when you mix those two things together, they become near unstoppable. It was probably why their reign had lasted for as long as it did.

I Entered a Dangerous Dungeon
Acchan’s Story
Acchan’s story was very touching and sad. I thought the anime did a great job adapting her POV chapters concisely into this episode.
I love the scene of Acchan reading Past Katarina’s last text message and breaking down crying.
Tumblr media
That got me right in the feels.
One slight criticism, is that in the Light Novel we learn that because of Past Katarina, Acchan has made many friends and is able to live on without her best friend. Because of the positive impact Past Katarina had on her life and how much she changed it for the better.
So, while in the anime, Acchan does say she will live on without her best-friend, I feel like it doesn’t come across as strongly as it did in the Light Novel.
That being said. I thought Acchan’s story went really well with the flow of the episode.
In LN Vol.2 her POV honestly felt disruptive and broke the flow of the story for me. So definite kudos to the anime for fixing that.
The text message scene got me, but so did Past Katarina’s funeral.
Tumblr media
It’s easy to forget, with Katarina’s silliness, density and antics, that she died tragically young in her former life.
So well done on the anime’s part for hitting me right in the heart with that reminder.
--
Sadness and friendship aside. I like how Fortune Lover appears in Katarina’s Past Life.
Tumblr media
The poster on Acchan’s wall gives the impression that Prince Geordo and Prince Alan are the two main love interests or the more primary capture-targets.
As they are more front and center than Keith and Nicol.
But since this is Katarina’s story, Keith takes precedent over Alan because of his closer proximity and relationship to Katarina.
There’s also something I really like about Past Katarina struggling to succeed in the Prince Geordo route in the game and technically dying because of it.
It feels like her new life is good karma or the universe trying to make it up to her…so to speak
As in Katarina’s new life she easily wins over Prince Geordo without even trying and by being herself. Hell, she doesn’t even notice that he’s in love with her or that anyone else is.
I’m probably looking way more into that detail than is actually needed, but I just like that small detail to Katarina and Geordo’s relationship.
The Exam Plot
Sophia want to see Katarina after her sad dream (memories) was very sweet and touching. I just love their friendship and how it has cross time, worlds and lives. It’s beautiful.
I don’t think the Exam Plot is from the Light Novels (6-9) and it wasn’t in the manga or Light Novels (1-5).
So, kudos to the Anime for introducing this exam plot and exploring more of the academic life for Katarina and her friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved their school uniforms for the exam.
It was nice seeing them in the same outfits and they all look pretty damn good in them.
I don’t know why I really like their uniforms so much, but I really do. I just really do.
As much as I love their day-to-day outfits, I would not be mad if this was their school uniform and what we saw them in for the majority of the time.
But that’s probably just me.
Tumblr media
Katarina is 100% right about the insanity of this exam.
--
But thanks to this crazy exam we got to see more magic and it was great.
I’ve always felt like the Light Novels and the Manga didn’t elaborate or explore on this being a magical world and the fact that all of our main characters have magic (at least in the First Year/Game Arc). The later novels (3-5) do elaborate a bit further.
In Fortune Lover, it’s clear that magic was just a mechanic in the game to explain why all these characters were in the same school and a slight twist to making Maria different and special, as well as make Fortune Lover different from other Otome games.
And if I’m not mistakes Katarina even says the same thing about Fortune Lover.
Fortune Lover gave a limited view of this world. Even when it came to Maria Campbell’s life and background, but the actual Hamefura story explores the world to a much greater extent.
So, it always seemed liked a wasted opportunity not to do the same with magic.
As it never really felt that magic matters for certain characters at all.
For example in the Light Novels’ Character Profiles -- Sophia is said to have Earth magic and Raphael is said to have Light Magic…
But clearly that doesn’t really matter, because the anime (and maybe manga) can easily change their original types of magic to Wind Magic (I’m assuming it was Raphael who used that wind-tunnel to save Sophia and Katarina).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOWEVERE, there does seem to be a mistake in Sophia’s profile as it’s just Katarina’s in regards to her likes, dislikes, etc.
Sophia’s Profile in Vol.5 (english-translation) is more than likely wrong in regards to her magic. Which might mean Raphael’s magic in his profile is also wrong.
So, we should take that into consideration.
My point being that I’m very happy that the anime is taking different route with how it handles magic in comparison to the LN/Manga.
It’s been a huge improvement.
--
Katarina is so fucking dumb (I love her).
Not only does she push the red button on the floor without even thinking about it for even a second, but in addition, her contributing to the group with her earth-bump was hilarious and adorable.
Plus, her picking the most poisonous mushrooms that ever existed was just so stupid and so amazing.
I also love how both Mary and Sophia are pretty fucking dumb when it comes to Katarina (and really only when it comes to her).
Mary is fully prepared to eat deadly mushrooms as long as Katarina is the one who prepares them and Sophia just hops right on board.
And Sophia was really the only who was genuinely complimenting Katarina for her earth-bump move in the exam. Which is just so sweet and also so dumb.
I love the three of them so goddamn much + Maria being the only one of the girls not willing to the deadly mushrooms.
While I am a bit disappointed that Katarina’s videogame knowledge wasn’t of any use to her in the exam, I did genuinely love Geordo pushing her towards the the path they decided to take.
I also enjoyed Alan saving Mary and her slighty blushing and him looking slighty embarassed as well.
Tumblr media
I will say I was disappointed that we only really saw the boys be capable during the exam, not any of the girls. Except for when Sophia helped Nicol locate Katarina…but still.
And of course, Katarina found the magic-stone because she needed a tool to help her gather mushrooms. That’s 100% Katarina. Though, a part of would have prefer it if Katarina was very knowledgable about plants in general and knew that those mushrooms were deadly. (either way it works for me)
And the one councilmember in her head (happy) seeing a lizard as food was fucking fantastic.
Tumblr media
I love the noble girls being jealous of Katarina and talking about her.
It’s nice seeing them before the big accusation scene happens. Just by showing the noble girls being mad and jealous of Katarina feels more organic to the story.
Plus, Maria noticing the Dark Magic behind Katarina.
I’m very happy with the past two ‘filler’ episodes building up to the two big climatic scenes and events.
--
The main problem I had with this episode is that -
The Exam Makes No Sense…
I know that not unusual for anime or plenty of other stories, but the exam really makes no sense.
Aside from one group, basically everyone else is basically set up to fail. Right?
If you find the magic stone than you pass. If you don’t find the (one) magic stone, then you fail.
Tumblr media
The exam isn’t really testing what they’ve learned or improved upon.
It’s more based on luck and the amount of magical power one has.
Which seems unfair, as we know that a good portion of the magic population is closer to Katarina’s level of power than Keith’s, at least in LN, but maybe it’s different in the anime (or maybe I read the LN wrong).
I guess it’s possible that even though the team that finds the magic stone automatically passes, the other teams can pass based on how they navigated through the ruins...maybe. That would make more sense.
Though, it’s very possible that Alan, Mary, and Maria didn’t pass the practical exam because they weren’t on Katarina’s team.
And while I doubt that will be addressed later in the anime - If Alan, Mary and Maria actually failed the practical exam then that would be a great reason for why they arrived late during the accusation scene.
They weren’t there because they had to retake the practical exam or do another one.
So, even if the anime doesn’t say that’s the reason, that’s going to be my headcanon for right now.
ALSO
The teachers literally split the top students of the entire grade into two separate groups…
I’m not exaggerating.
The students who get picked to be on the Student Council (the harem) are the ones who ranked the highest in the evaluation exam at the beginning of the school year.
First Year Rankings
1. Geordo Stuart (Canon) 2. Maria Campbell (Canon) 3. Alan Stuart (Canon) 4. Keith Claes (non-canon) 5. Mary Hunt (non-canon) 6. Sophia Ascart (non-canon)
We don’t actually know the rankings of Keith, Mary and Sophia but since they’re also on the student council, we know that they must be ranked 4-6. We just don’t know the exact order. .
Having the highest ranked students in two groups, basically feels like setting up all the other students for failure.
Then you have Katarina who is right smack in the middle of the rankings (#80) as part of one of the two groups.
That gives me the impression that Geordo and Keith basically demanded that Katarina be on the same team they are on, not realizing the other was doing the same.
Which is par for the course.
As all the members of the harem (minus Maria), threatened the teachers that if Katarina didn’t get permanent permission to be allowed in the Student Council chambers, then they would all resign from the student council (Manga/LN).
I know I’m thinking about this too much.
And that of course the main characters are going to be together, because they’re the main characters. But still...
Really with just one or two lines from the teacher would have at least solved one of the illogical problems here.
Teacher – “We have place several of these stones in the labyrinth, your goal is to find one of them. If your team leaves the dungeon without finding a stone, your team fails.”
Or something to that affect...
As much as I love Geordo and Keith being exasperated by Katarina and protecting her.
This also could’ve have been a nice opportunity to introduce Katarina’s non-council friends. Rather than us just seeing them right before she gets accused of bullying.
But again, it does make more sense to have the main characters to be teamed up together...because they are the main characters. I just can’t help but point out the logistical problems for this exam.
Though maybe the anime will build off what’s been established in this episode...maybe.
--
Overall, I really enjoyed this episode.
I was hit in the feels right away, laughed so hard, and it was just a lot of fun.
And of course, I was very happy to see the anime is adding its own stuff to the story and elaborating beyond the Light Novels and Manga.

i’ve been keeping a close eye on JOVANNI MALIK AARON lately . by all means , i’ve started to notice the striking resemblance between him and keith powers , but something sparked my interest more . as it turns out - the aaron family have indeed tried their best to tuck away jovanni’s impulsive tendencies , but it only seems to bring out his arrogance more . according to close confidants , on rare occasions , he can be debonair , last time they saw this side of him was , and i quote - “ON HIS TWENTY-FOURTH BIRTHDAY” . but most shocking of all , seems to be the fact that ever since i dug deeper in his life , i somehow couldn’t shake the image of golden grills on perfectly straight teeth : tendrils of marijuana smoke in the air : leather seats in a foreign car : a façade of perfection : empty bottles of hennessy : pretty lips spilling pretty lies : smooth r&b and soul : the seductive scent of creed aventus & sex out of my head .

⤜ PERSONALITY.
positive: bold, confident, debonair, intelligent, creative, playful, easy-going, charming, flirty. negative: impulsive, invincibility-complex, cocky, selfish, self-centered, emotionally unavailable, temperamental, dishonest. short description: to jovanni, the world is his oyster. it revolves around him. the aaron family is the epitome of perfection personified, and jovanni was raised to carry that perfection on his back. he’s gotten good at putting up that façade though -- creating the illusion that he’s just another perfect member of the aaron. on the outside, he’s the picture of perfection and grace -- just like the family mantra. when, in reality, he’s self-destructive. he’s quite the opposite of what his parents would like him to be. his confidence bleeds into unabashed arrogance, he believes he’s invincible to everything -- the law and even death. not to mention, you can’t trust a single thing that spills from those pretty lips of his.
⤜ BIOGRAPHY.
(tw: drug use)
jovanni had a perfect childhood. his parents showered him with anything he could have ever wanted. his bedroom was full of the latest toys, video game consoles and video games, he had the biggest birthday parties in the backyard, and he never wanted for anything. maybe it just came naturally, seeing as his parents are who they are, but jovanni’s always been naturally intelligent and driven. he was easily always top of his class, bringing home good grades and top test scores. however, jovanni had a problem when it came to discipline, and that only got worse as he grew up. he had an affinity for landing himself in hot water with his parents because he talked back to a teacher, or he pushed a schoolmate on the playground -- jovanni just didn’t ( and still doesn’t ) like to be told what to do. of course, this little issue was a blemish on the face of the aaron family name, and it simply had to be handled.
and it was. jovanni was taught, by any means necessary, the importance of good behavior and self-image -- because his self-image directly reflected the family image, and the aaron family couldn’t be anything short of perfect and graceful. it’s the family mantra after all, right?
jovanni’s academic achievements continued to grow, so did the pressure to keep up that perfect image, and so did his desire to be anything but. by the time he was in high school, jovanni was fully immersed in parties and alcohol, he was sleeping around -- with girls and guys ( though he’s still pretty closeted when it comes to his sexuality ), getting absolutely hammered when he got the chance, when his friends would come over they would raid the wine cellar for whatever liquor they could find, and before he graduated from high school, he was introduced to marijuana and a few other drugs -- like lsd, molly, and ecstasy -- he also did coke once in college but it was a one done thing for him.
while jovanni and his friends knew what he was really like on the inside, to his parents and the rest of the outside world, he was a perfect kid. he got straight a’s, was involved in plenty of clubs, always elected president of the student body, a star wide receiver on the football team, a great basketball player, and an amazing baseball player, a tutor, and someone who always had the attention of some of the most coveted universities. he would attend court when his father was working more high profile cases, or more like his father would drag him along, and so jovanni just assumed he was expected to follow in his footsteps.
during college -- which were full of wild party days, hookups, and a few scandals that his parents worked hard to cover up ( including but not limited to: a dui charge, a hit and run, two unwanted pregnancies, and a threatened expulsion after a plagiarism incident ) ( he also pledged kappa alpha psi ) -- he started doing a few modeling gigs here and there after being discovered on instagram. he still does it to this day, a few modeling gigs here and there that have garnered him quite the social media following. when he isn’t modeling or partying or fucking -- he’s focusing on law school while also working at the firm his father does as a paralegal.
he still lives young, wild, and free much to his parents dismay, though his façade of perfection hasn’t come crumbling down...yet. time will only tell how long he can keep this up.
⤜ WANTED CONNECTIONS.
exes: maybe an ex-girlfriend that his parents had set him up with in high school, they probably had a toxic relationship because neither of them wanted to be in it. or maybe it was toxic but your muse wanted to be in it, actually loved jovanni despite how he treated her. another ex -- someone he actually wanted to be with and probably loved despite his parents not really accepting that relationship.
friends: friends from high school and college. they can still be close or maybe they drifted apart. friends who he partied a lot with in high school/college.
the bro: his true bromance -- otb. this has been his best friend since like the first grade, they’ve been through everything together and they’re still as thick as thieves.
the sis: his girl best friend, it’s always been platonic between the two of them.
enemies
a boy he’s known since high school, someone he explored his sexuality with. maybe they’ve drifted apart or had a falling out and now they’re running into each other again.
fuckbuddies: this one’s pretty self-explanatory. the boy likes sex, it’s one of his vices next to weed and alcohol and looking in the mirror a little too much. layer in some angst with some of these relationships and we’re cooking with grease!
and plenty more! i’m down for any and all connections honestly! just give this a like or slide in my ims and we can plot out some connections and plots for our muses!

Many ways to say I love you: Day Twenty-Eight.
Kidge-a-palooza 2019 Prompt: Enflame. Pairing: Kidge (VLD) Universe: Omegaverse!AU. Status: Part 3/3
Pidge could feel the smell of fried bacon that her mother prepared for breakfast hit her nose hard when she opened her eyes, wishing she could taste it as if she hadn't eaten it for a long time. Her father's laughter from the kitchen and her brother's rumble as he went down the stairs was enough to make her understand that her entire family was home again. And if she was lucky, Pidge could get an extra portion of bacon before Matt snatched it away.
She stretched out on her bed lazily, throwing some blankets and cushions around her on the floor by accident, the remains of a nest still hovering over her bed as the only memory of the stormy week she lived a couple of days ago, but Pidge didn't feel like undoing it at the moment.
Even when she was aware that what she lived with Keith hadn't been part of a wet dream, a product of her uncontrolled hormones, having a thick smell even loitering in her room guaranteed a better rest. It was as if Keith still stood by her side even without being, which seemed ridiculous, but it also made her feel comforted.
She never thought that jealousy would lead her to have such basic and instinctive behaviors, but Pidge was happy that she had at least been accompanied by an Alpha as attentive as her boyfriend.
She went down the stairs slowly while her legs got used to walking after being in bed for many days, seeing her family chatting and eating like an ordinary morning, as if nothing had happened, which she deeply appreciated. Even if she knew they were aware that she was helped by Keith to pass her pains while they weren't at home, they wouldn't press more than they should to respect her privacy. Just as it happened with her brother the first time he went through his period of heat, they left everything she could need for her cramps, and enough food so she wouldn't have to strain to cook while they were outside.
Her parents decided to spend the week on the outskirts of the city to take advantage of a couple's time, and not to disturb her daughter's senses any more during her warmth than those who became extremely sensitive to any nearby sound or smell. As long as they weren't dangerous heat stages, such as the danger of internal hemorrhages or high fevers, it was used to keep the omegas as far away from stimuli that could torment their rest, so leaving the families used to be a decision frequent. Her mother, before leaving her, told her that she was the one who decided to call on Keith's help if she considered it necessary, as long as it was with caution and care. Pidge didn't answer at that time, but the next day she preferred to call him when she failed to sleep because of her cramps.
Her brother meanwhile preferred to spend a week with Shiro, so she wasn't surprised to find marks under his neck that he tried to cover himself with a coat while talking to his father about the new Garrison programs. It was a useless exercise, the smell of Shiro was all over his body.
The only good thing she remembered all week, is that despite having wavered with preventing Keith from knotting her during her heats, (or more technically, that she had manipulated him in a moment of weakness until she was able to impale herself around his knot) is that they prevented it from being bitten, or that would definitely have been a topic of conversation between both families.
The fact that she knotted it wasn't a big problem. Pidge could avoid pregnancy with special suppressants that she took from her brother's room when her season of heat ended, but a mark was a much more complex matter that couldn't be taken lightly.
When she finished breakfast, Pidge decided to take her things quickly to go to school before her mother began with problematic questions that Pidge had no intention of answering yet. Although she loved her so much as to trust many things that the common people considered unthinkable, since the dynamics of omegas were still a moderately forbidden matter in society's view, her mother was still an overly intrusive Alpha about her private life.
She came to the Garrison with some shame when some eyes began to settle on her differently. Pidge knew it was due to the end of her heat and her scent was still releasing certain pheromones that attracted even some betas around her. But being subject to looks was something Pidge still felt too scary. She didn't like to attract attention most of the time when in her experience she always used to be negative, and now feeling like a dam in the savannah where predators stalked her before she launched herself wasn't comfortable.
God, she hated being a damn omega.
''It seems you didn't have a good week.'' Pidge growled in response when she heard Lance by her side as he headed for her first class of the day.
''None your business, Lance.'' She said with more poison in her voice than she would have liked, but it was enough for Lance to understand that she wasn't in the mood that day.
''Hey, I don't want to argue with you, calm down Pidge. Did something bad happen in the morning?''
''Not really. Only awkward changes and everything.''
She avoided the eyes of her classmates as soon as she got to the classroom that belonged to her, being followed by Lance who began to understand the reason for her attitude as soon as some curious looks landed on her. For a moment he thought he could hear a grunt of protest from one of her companions when she passed by. Lance sighed heavily as he sat beside her.
''You'll be fine?'' Lance asked worried, Pidge smiled weakly as soon as she felt the scent of him looming around her, as if he were protecting her from others.
''Yeah, it will only be a few days until I stop stinking of sex.''
''I think that's the real problem.'' He moved closer to Pidge to prevent their conversation from being of interest to others. She watched him confused.  ''If you meet Keith during breaks, let him give you his jacket or something.''
''Why?''
''God Pidge you're not going to make me explain to you.''
A faint blush appeared on Lance's face. Pidge smiled mischievously for a brief moment, she adored that he cared so much for her as a younger sister, but he owed her since before his week of heat for bothering her unduly, and if she could embarrass him in the process while explaining something basic like the impregnation of the scent of an Alpha, she would take advantage of it.
It wasn't a situation that seemed suspicious since a few years ago Pidge was a beta just like her brother. And it was valid to think that she really didn't understand very well the dynamics of an omega when it was never necessary.
Lance cleared his throat briefly before continuing, Pidge made her best effort to continue looking ignorant on the subject.
''Okay listen, omegas like you and I are able to impregnate the smell of our partner, it mixes on our body like a second aroma, that makes others, especially other alphas, know that you are paired.'' Pidge nodded slowly, he was really explaining it quite well, which impressed her. "That will prevent others from throwing on you. You completely removed Keith's scent when you took a shower, that's why people think you're an omega without compromise.''
''I had to do.'' She answered incredulously, but still maintaining a low tone. ''I wasn't going to keep all the sweat and other things on my body.''
''Those ‘other things’ kept you safe, Pidge, and with the end of your heat, some may think that you are not only free but also willing to have sex to find a partner.''
''Oh god, this is hell.''
She groaned overwhelmed, Lance patted her back, understanding. It wasn't a piece of information that was commented openly, much less in the classes given by the school before adolescents went through the process of puberty and discovered the genres in which they belonged. But usually, the omegas were too possessive with the scent of Alpha after their jealousy to quickly get rid of it during baths. He had to assume that with Pidge something was going to be different. To be an omega, there were too many of her mother's genes in her.
''I will tell Keith that you are looking for him after class, talk to him and explain the situation. He will surely understand.''
''Thank you, Lance.'' Pidge said with some more relief. ''I just hope this ends at the end of the day.''
''Yeah...'' Lance smiled awkwardly as soon as he felt the thick scent of more than one Alpha in the room, with clear intentions to draw his friend's attention to a possible courtship. ''Me too.''
 ...
Although the atmosphere felt tense during classes when her classmates began to growl, the day passed without major problems because her teacher kept the alphas in the classroom at bay. She felt tense, so her inner omega began to release a scent of stress all over the place, causing her companions to stop for now.
If she was scared, it would be impossible for an Alpha to accept her. So, they decided to calm down in the middle of class, paying attention to the board until Pidge even forgot for a moment the whole situation.
But as soon as classes were over, she quickly left for Garrison's advanced pilot zone without looking back or answering the call of her classmates who were completely ignored, she had to find Keith as soon as possible before any event incident happened because of her hormones.
Pidge was scared, she didn't like the idea of having to use her partner to be left alone because of a biological problem, but it was the most efficient solution at the moment. Galaxy Garrison was a huge place with too many alphas running for the space program, so she was the weak individual at the time, and she had to find a way to defend herself from predators who watched her with interest.
When she came to the spacecraft hangar, she found almost no one in sight, so she thought it would be better to wait for him in that place in the meantime. The hangar was open so its smell wasn't as intense as in a closed place. She approached one of the new models that would be launched as a scientific project next month that her father had been talking about for a while. The ship was immense, and Pidge was supposed to take them to the Triton moon in less than three months on the first trip.
It was a structure with fascinating technology, she wondered when it would be the day, she, like her family, would enter the confines of the universe with her own crew.
She hoped it would be soon.
''You shouldn't be here.'' Pidge looked away when she heard a guy a couple of years older walk towards her severely irritated by her presence, her smell reached her strongly, mixed with some curiosity. ''This is the hangar of the advanced piloting course, return to the first-year zone.''
''I'm looking for someone.'' Responded determined, he frowned as if he hadn't understood.
''I'm not suggesting you come back, I'm ordering you.''
''And who the hell are you to come and order something from me?'' She growled irritably, but that guy only took her arm tightly and began to take her towards the exit. ''Let go!''
''Shut up.'' Pidge took a deep breath when she heard his voice rumble in her head, he had used his voice with her. He didn't control her completely but hindered her senses for a few seconds. ''It's amazing that I have to take a damn omega to where it belongs, can't you behave like normal people?''
''Let go.'' She tried again to get out of his grip while trying not to trip over her own feet while walking, but he was stronger and she felt dizzy. ''Just... Keith...''
''What do you have to talk to the emo boy?'' Inquired throwing it with more force, Pidge groaned in pain. ''Won't it be your boyfriend, isn't it?
Pidge showed her teeth in response, something in his tone was not exactly kind when she heard how he meant Keith, she wanted to bite his face to remove that cynical smile from his lips, scratch his throat or at least kick him in the crotch to let her leave her alone.
But in less than an instant, a familiar smell and hands around her shoulders drove her away from that subject like a lifeguard. She looked over to meet Keith, who frowned in irritation and part of his upper lip trembled avoiding showing teeth.
She performed a happy trill from the bottom of her throat when Keith walked along with her toward the opposite direction of the exit. She was sure that he had exchanged a couple of words with the annoying guy that threw her as if it were a dog, but she was so focused on feeling her smell to get out of the trance that the damn asshole had left her that she didn't pay much attention.
They sat in boxes outside the hangar, where only a couple of pilots were outside chatting or drinking some coffee. Pidge was sure that her classes had started a few minutes ago, but she was so calm next to Keith that she thought it wouldn't be so bad to skip them for the day.
''You have to be careful next time.'' Keith said after several minutes in silence, she watched him carefully. ''That guy was a newly graduated cadet; he could have sent you to the director's office if he wanted to.''
''I didn't do anything wrong, he treated me like I was an insect to smash. Damn fool...''
''If you feel like revenge, you could tell Shiro or your father.'' Keith shrugged.  ''It wouldn't be very difficult for him to receive a warning for treating you badly. What he did anyway was unfair.''
''No.'' She answered a little tired. ''I don't want to resort to that at the moment, I will fight my own battles. Besides... I'm reserving it when I really need it.''
''How to sneak off to Iverson computers?'' Keith inquired amused, she laughed maliciously.
''Exactly.''
''I doubt that your father agrees to defend you with that.''
''It doesn't matter if he agrees with what I do, but that it helps me so that Iverson doesn't drive me out of Garrison.''
''How ruthless you are Katie Holt.''
''You are the least indicated to talk about ethics.''
Keith shook his head laughing at her, but Pidge saw the sweetest and warmest smile that made her heart completely tender, felt her glands relax to give way to a thick, sweet fragrance as she approached him a little more, until they were hugging while they watched as the ships began their test flights, the smell that Pidge released at that time was very similar to the flowers that her mother loved to grow at home. She couldn't help it, she loved that boy too much. Keith had been with her at the most fragile moment of her life and never stopped treating her with tenderness and affection, even when she had become really violent from time to time.
She vaguely remembered how the other alphas watched her from the moment she entered Garrison that morning, as the guy treated her just for believing she was being upset. Pidge hated the alphas who thought of her as if it were a nuisance or a prize to win. Keith was the only Alpha capable of emerging in her feelings that flowed with just a simple smile, a fire from which only her smell and kisses inflamed from her vestiges.
They stayed there all day. Away from the eyes of others, there was no other place they wanted to be than in each other's arms while their aromas mingled as a demonstration of possession in the other.
At least that would make it clear that Pidge didn't need another Alpha.

So we know a lot about Keith and the other paladins backrounds, but not as much about Shiro’s. Here are some Shiro background headcannons. There is some cannon time period Shadam in this but the endgame will be Sheith. No Curtis Whatshisname in sight.
Mostly raised by his grandfather who he called Pawaw. (No I’m totally not projecting my own grandad because I miss him). His parents were in high school when they had him. He doesn’t remember his dad because when he was 2 his dad just left, his only excuse being he wasn’t ready for a kid.
He barely remembers his mom, she had the same muscle disease he had and she died when he was 5.. But Pawaw was always there for him. So was grandma Mimi but she died from a heart attack when he was 7.
He grew up in Minnesota, liked playing ice hockey and figurscating and other ice sports. Loved playing in the snow, making igloos and snowmen and snow angels and snowball fights. At least when he wasn’t sick or in the hospital or during treatments.
He’d always been fascinated with space, ever since that basic second grade astronomy class, he was eager to learn more. Read every astronomy or astrology or anything about astronauts or space/air craft book he could get his hands on.
Pawpaw supported him about being an astronaut when he was younger but he was sure as he grew up Shiro would pick a more sensible career, something at least physically possible considering his condition. But nope Shiro continued with the astronaut fantasy.
It broke both their hearts when Pawpaw told Shiro he couldn’t be an astronaut. Shiro was 14 just about to start high school. Shiro wouldn’t take no for an answer, insisted he always destined to see the stars. Pawpaw just wanted to protect him from getting hurt. Shiro argued back that he could protect himself just fine.
Shiro learned how to manage his disability better, doing those daily timed exercises, keeping himself healthy. The more time went on the more progress he made. Pawpaw was surprised but very proud of him. Maybe his son-er grandson-could follow his dreams and be an astronaut after all.
When Shiros 16 right before his junior year of high school, Pawpaw finally agrees to fly to Texas with him to try out the Garrison simulator, and if things go well apply to the boarding school. Shiro’s flying ability reaches off the charts and he breaks most of the simulation’s records.
They go back home to Minnesota for a couple more weeks to bond before Shiro has to pack up and leave for good. They know they’ll see each other again next summer but it feels like letting go. Shiro’s following his dreams and going places, Pawpaw’s watching his son-ehem grandson sorry-leave the nest and fly off on his own.
Shiro became particularly fond of one of the younger teachers, Adam. They got along well together, in a mentor/mentee sort of way. Shiro graduated the primary cadet training with flying colors and continued his studies. The more time passed Adam became less of a mentor and more of a friend. They were equals now, both adults, same rank, working together.
The more time Shiro and Adam spend working together the closer they get. Eventually they can’t deny they’re feelings for each other anymore and start going out. Shiro feels on top of the world like nothing can bring him down. Everything is going right in his life for once. He tries calling Pawpaw a few times to tell him but he never answered. Shiro figures he’s just busy and he’d call again in the morning.
So of course when Shiro gets an invite to his grandpas funeral instead of a phone call-who he didn’t even know was dead, didn’t even know something was wrong-he was a absolutely devastated. Adam being the great boyfreind that he is offered to accompany Shiro back to Minnesota, so he wouldn’t be alone.
Shiro doesn’t remember much about going home or attending the funeral. It feels unreal, like a bad dream that he’s about to wake up from any second. His only solace is Adam comforting him from time to time. Adam is if the only thing keeping him sane.
It takes Shiro a couple months to fully process this. Pawpaw’s gone. He’s really gone. He’d always seemed so indistructable, immortal. Shiro couldn’t comprehend that he could just simply die from natural causes, the circle of life. The guilt almost crushed him. The guilt of not realizing something was wrong, the guilt of not being able to do anything to help, the guilt of not even saying goodbye almost crushed him.
But he couldn’t afford to be crushed. He had responsibilities. He had to be completely focused on his studies, flying, training, keeping himself in top shape, spending his well deserved breaks with Adam. Working was the number one thing to keep him distracted. And spending time with Adam of course.
A year later they put Shiro in charge of chaperoning a simulation at a local high school. One kid-Shiro later learned his name was Keith-made it all the way to level 15, which had never been done by any other cadet student. Keith broke every record. EVERY record, even the ones that had currently belonged to Shiro. He didn’t know how Keith could even focus with the gaggle of classmates chattering around him, some cheering him on, others berating him or complaining that he was taking too long and it was their turn.
Shiro asked the teacher what Keith’s name is and if he would be interested in applying to the Garrison. Teacher said Shiro should forget about that one, he’s a very troubled foster home kid. Shiro kept trying to convince her of the potential of he saw in Keith but she didn’t listen. Teacher kept insisting Keith was juvinial delinquent devil spawn.
As soon as she was done saying that, Shiros Jeep started up and drove off. The kids were all saying it was Keith, who was nowhere in sight. They were just about to call the police and report Shiros car stolen when it came around the corner, all the windows down, radio blasting My Neck My Back by Khia for the whole world to hear. Shiro was simultaneously mortified and amused. The kids were either shacking their heads in disapproval, or cracking up and dancing with the music.
Keith parked the car and sauntered out with a McDonald’s bag. The teacher exploded, screaming about detention possibly suspension and ruining the schools reputation. And Keith is like Chill I just went to get my lunch the car is fine and tossed the keys to Shiro who was having a hard time not cracking up. Keith went to eat a good distance away from the other kids having lunch
This has been in my drafts for like a week and I don’t know what else to do with it so. This is what it is for now. Anyone is welcome to add on to this.

12. PLEASE MORE EMOTIONAL GROWTH AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
13. The paladins roast that Garrison teacher commander guy because they went further than he’s ever going to dream of.
I hope you like them. I’ll probably delete this ever since I feel embarrassed since it’s my first time acting like a total lame nerd.
Edit: number 2, just a little tweak.

Soooo... M-PREG Sheith AU with trans!Keith? Is it possible?
First of all, I'm not the best person to talk about transgender because I'm not one. And if I made a mistake, I'm really sorry. Just tell me and I'll correct.
Furthermore, I'm French so my English is really, really basic and I surely did a lot of errors. So. Sorry.
I had this AU's idea when my mom told me a story of when I was a child.
So it wouldn't be long after the end of the war. Peace would begin to return to the universe and some relationships would going deeper. Including the one between Shiro and Keith. They could get even closer. But by the time, it could become more physical, so Keith confesses to Shiro being trans. But he never had the money to have T or to have the needed operations to be the man he want to be. Shiro tells him that he doesn't care if he is a man or a woman because he loves him just the way he is.
They talk about their future and Shiro asks him what he would have liked to do if he hadn't been a paladin of Voltron. Keith would confess to always dreaming of becoming a singer. When he was a child, his father played folk guitar and sang country songs to him. And he would like to be just like him.
Shiro told him that it would be possible. Voltron would soon not be so essential, especially with Atlas and the other pilots.
Keith tells him that he would like to have a family of his own. Shiro starts telling him that Krolia and Kolivan would love to live a real family life with him but Keith stops him and says that he wants to have a family with him. And it would be possible, if Shiro wanted too.
Shiro smiles and tells him that they can start right now.
So they make love. Several times. Every time. All over. In the black lion, in the bedroom of the other. Even in Atlas. Their relationship is truly fusional.
But resistance Galras are difficult in all of the universe and Voltron have to go. However, their last mission is going badly and they may be fighting against Lotor. Or not. I do not know yet. So, before a big explosion of quintessence or energy (idk I'm not a scientist), Shiro asks Kosmo to put Keith in a safe place. And the space wolf brings him back to Earth.
Keith struggles, begs him to bring him back. But when he is back on earth, the lions and Altlas are in their place, empty. And no sign of his friends and Shiro. He is alone, with his mother and Kolivan. Even Koran and all the people in Atlas have disappeared.
Keith then launches searches throughout the universe to find them. He even does research in books on the astral plane but he is quickly taken by a madman or a desperate by the Garrison. His mother tries to help him but over the months, she loses hope. James and the other three are trying to help him and to them five, they can reform Voltron. Keith as the black paladin, James is the red, Kinkade the yellow, Rizavi the blue and Leifsdottir the green.
But after several unconsciousness, Keith is hospitalized by force. He's waiting for a baby. Shiro's baby. He is devastated and doesn't know what to do. He decides to abort first. Because he doesn't want to have a baby without Shiro by his side. And he doesn't want to have someone else in his life one day. And he is too young. But on the other hand ... It's Shiro's baby ... And he doesn' t have the courage to do it. He wants to keep the faith to find Shiro and his friends, wherever they are in the universe.
Shiro and the other missing are waking up on earth too. But it seem like nobody can see them. As if they were ghosts. Or on another astral plane. Time doesn't have the same notion and they have some flashes that they can have in their half-sleep, one month for them equals one year for Keith and the others. Shiro sees several images of Keith in tears, desperate, calling him desperately but Shiro can't fully wake up and reach him. But an image stands out. Keith is sweating, crying with joy and holding a small baby against him. When he understands that it is his son, Shiro comes out of his torpor. It's almost like coming back to life and he wakes up the others. They try to get in touch with their families and friends but there is nothing to do. And five years go by for Keith and his little boy.
Shiro watches him sing songs, rocks their baby to sleep. There is his first steps and all his first time during these five years. But the more time passes and the more Shiro feels sleepy. He is desperately clinging more and more to the images of his family.
One day, their five-year-old boy asks his mum why he doesn't have a dad. Keith tells him that his father is just lost. He has trouble finding the way home but
He will not give up on them.
Shiro smiles while he sees this scene. He tells Keith that he loves them. Keith hears his voice and thinks he sees him through a mirror in his house. He becomes almost crazy, Kolivan is forced to immobilize him and Krolia takes the little boy to school.
Shiro understands that he can get in touch with Keith again because their connection is strong. But every time, Keith is misunderstood and the doctors worry about his case.
Shiro begins to give up. Allura and Lance try to comfort him when Shiro hears someone crying. He is the only one to hear him and follows the sound until he arrives at his son's kindergarten. Son who is being beaten up by a small bully in the sandbox. Shiro gets furious and throws himself against the fence that separates him from the children and shouts "Leave him alone!".
He deploys such energy that his son stops crying while the other kid runs away, crying a lot louder. A teacher comes to scold him for scaring a child. Shiro then understands that he is finally visible. His love and protective instinct, which he hardly dared to express for his son, allowed him to really return to the earth.
Later, Krolia comes to pick up this grandchild but Shiro is waiting for Keith, in front of the school, his kid in his arms. He can't leave without her autorisation. So they go to the hospital and Keith miss an heart attack when he sees Shiro. But his son is not afraid of him, like if he already knows him.
Shiro can finally explain where he was and where the other are again. They figure out what they have to do and after have found families members and friends, every body may return to live their lives.
The end?
(My mom's story is that she heard me crying in the schoolyard while she was having coffee at my aunt's house next door. The windows were closed but she immediately recognized my tears and ran out. She literally threw herself on the fence and shouted "Leave her alone" at the little girl who was jumping on my back.)

Catch a Crush (Lance x Reader)
Warnings: None, I think
Word Count: 1,256
Prompt/Request: None
Summary: Younger sibling of Shiro, best friend of Keith, and overall lonely person. Reader finds themself head over heels for Lance and puts a plan in action to catch their crush.
Author: Mod Alex
Your older brother was Takashi Shirogane, known to family and friends as Shiro. And your best friend was Keith Kogane. It had been that way for as long as you could remember. For the most part, you couldn’t ask for better brotherly best friends. However, sometimes being in the shadow of them was… well, it was lonely. Shiro was the shining star of the Garrison and Keith was the resident bad boy™. So between the both of them, people were less interested in you. They were still nice but nice in the way you smile and wave to the person who waits every day at the same bus stop as you.
But then there was Lance. The most charming person you’d ever met in your entire life. And he was talking to you, acting like he actually cared about who you were instead of who your brother and best friend were. (Although truth be told, he did have some kind of personal issue with Keith). Needless to say, you had caught feelings, hardcore. Every dazzling smile sent your way left your pulse racing and your cheeks flushing. It wasn’t long until Keith noticed you were acting differently and confronted you about it. From there it didn’t take much arm-twisting until you told him.
“Keith, I really like him. Like a lot.” “Okay?” “No, I mean like romantically.” “Oh.” “I think he might like me back? I’m not sure though,” You bit at your thumbnail in anxious thought, “I think I’ve caught him staring at me throughout class, but I can’t be sure. Would you mind keeping an eye on him to see if he looks at me in class?” Keith blinked in confusion, seemingly not understanding why Lance glancing at you in class was a sign of mutual attraction. Regardless, he was willing to help. All that was left was to wait for your next lecture class at the Garrison.
Fortunately for you, your next lecture was early the following day. Shiro finally had to tell you to stop pestering Keith over “your agreement”. He had been confused as to what the agreement was, but you refused to leak your secret to anyone else. As you had put it, one person is already too many people to know! With a chuckle and a shake of his head, Shiro had left for his own class, leaving you and Keith to head to yours. You had strategically sat Keith and yourself directly across from Lance’s regular seat. The perfect place for him to see you and for Keith to see him seeing you. It should be, you had been up basically all night planning it out.
It was five minutes till class began and Lance still hadn’t shown up. You were beginning to become crestfallen when he finally strode in, laughing with his friends. It was music to your ears. He sent you a wave and a wink and you could’ve sworn you melted in a puddle right there and went to heaven. When you finally timidly waved back, he had already turned away from you. As class began, your once Lance filled brain shifted into aerodynamics. What can you say, you were a true honor student at heart. It wasn’t until Keith tapped your shoulder and gestured his head over to where the pilot of your dreams sat that you even noticed. “Hmm? Oh. Oh!” You quickly stole a peek at Lance, delighted to find that he was staring dreamily in your direction, when he noticed you looking a bright blush crossed over his features and he quickly looked away. Your heart swelled. Could it be possible that your long-time crush actually liked you back? You made a quick scan of the area around you, double-checking that it had in fact been you that he had been looking at. Unless Lance had a thing for the teacher’s aid, you felt safe to assume it was in fact you. The rest of the class lecture went in one ear and came out the other as you and Lance stole glances at each other. You didn't even realize class was over until Keith nudged you with his elbow. “Ow! Keith, what the hell?” “Class is over, we’re the only people left here.” You did a quick scan of the room, quickly realizing he was right, in fact, it looked like even Lance had left. Your heart sank. Maybe if you hadn't been so focused on looking at Lance then you could've actually talked to him. You sigh in defeat. “I'm sorry, Keith. Let's just go, I guess…”
Just as you were walking out of the door, a hand grabbed your elbow causing you to successfully freak out for 2 seconds. When you saw who it was, you started freaking out again, albeit internally this time. “Heh, sorry I didn't mean to scare you.” It was Lance “dreamy-eyes” McClain. “It's okay, you just caught me off guard is all.” You blushed, realizing his hand was still resting on your arm. He did too and moved it, smiling sheepishly all the while. “Sorry. Oh, I'm, hey so I wanted to talk to you.” “You did?” “Yeah, so-” “I'm gonna go meet up with Shiro, call when you're done.” Keith had just interrupted what might have been the greatest moment in the history of greatest moments. You shot him a glare before turning back to Lance. “I am so sorry.” “No, no. It's okay.” You both fell into an awkward silence. Was he really not going to ask you anymore? Maybe you should speak up, make the first move like the self-confident person you were trying to be. Just ask him out. Say “hey, did you wanna go get lunch or see a movie or something?”. You tried your best to steel your nerves. “Can I kiss you?” The realization of what you asked hit you like a freight train and you gave a small eep. “I am so sorry. Oh my gosh, I didn't mean to say that. I-I, um….” He laughed, a blush of his own creeping up to his ears. Despite this, he sent you a wink and a blinding smile. “How could I say no to a cutie like you?” Oh no. This was it, you were going to die right here- wait what? Did he actually say yes? “Wh-what?” “Well, it'd be rude of me to say no.” He was looking less sure of himself and very much flustered. It was actually a pretty good look on him. “Oh, um, okay.” His hand moved to gently tuck a strand of hair behind your eye before gently cupping your jaw. Your heartbeat stuttered and your eyes flickered up to meet his. He was much closer than you remember; his night sky blue eyes glittering back at you. Your eyes fluttered shut as his nose bumped gently against yours. And then you were kissing. You’d heard people say it felt like fireworks, and while they aren’t wrong, this felt like so much more. You were floating on cloud nine. All too soon he pulled away, leaving the both of you breathless. “Wow.” The single, breathless word summed up the both of your feelings. He gave an airy laugh in response. “Wow, yourself. Did you, I mean- do you maybe wanna go get some lunch together?” “Absolutely.” As you walked side by side down the hall, he slipped his hand into yours, giving it a gentle squeeze. You had a feeling this was the start of a very beautiful relationship.

ser•en•dip•it•y {part 6}{Matt Holt x Reader}
Words: 4725
Summary:  You and Matt used to be childhood best friends, but that hadn’t been the case for nearly four years now. Whenever your parents insist on going to the Holt family country home for the summer, you may be forced to face old feelings as Matt makes an appearance.
Pairing: Matt Holt x Reader
Notes: p1 - p2 - p3 - p4 - p5 - FINAL; yeehaw.
  Chapter 6
You knew there was a definite sense of desperation in your system for you to have agreed to meet up with Keith Kogane during the summer.
You and Keith had never entirely had a friendship, per se. Both of you were well aware that the only time you two ever really spoke was whenever the other was in need of homework, or help with studying, and even then the conversation would be minor. Your relationship was based around lost library cards, college student mental breakdowns and passing pens to one another around the classroom after the teacher had already scolded you for not bringing one of your own.
Never before had you met up with Keith outside of those circumstances, and the idea of doing so made you oddly nervous.
You were a completely different person outside of the classroom. Whenever you were sat in front of the board, or crowded by books, you were focused. You had something to talk about. You could keep a manageable conversation up because there was a conversation to be had.
Now, what if things went silent? You and Keith would meet up for coffee, and you’d just sit in an awkward silence, making dumb small talk until you finally realised how bad of an idea this was and left.
That apparently hadn’t stopped you from agreeing, though.
Keith had texted you the night after your conversation with Jamie, asking you if you’d like to meet up for coffee for a ‘quick catch up.’ You were puzzled by his choice of words - there was nothing to catch up on. You and Keith had never been caught up with each other, unless complaining about algebra equations was a suitable description of such a statement.
You had sent back agreeing before you could argue yourself out of it, and now here you were - waiting for the black haired man to arrive.
You wore a frilly, white summer shirt and high waisted, light blue jeans. It was fancier than you were used to, your summer wardrobe usually consisting of nothing but tank tops and shorts, but you felt like making an effort would be appreciated. Perhaps wearing something pretty would make your mood lift a little bit.
You had to admit, being away from the house was helping matters much more than you thought they would. Finally being able to escape the non-stop tension that now brewed between everybody within those walls was like taking a breath of fresh air.
Keith arrived on time - it was you who had been early, insisting you get there before the acquired time so you could practice your greeting before Keith actually showed his face.
But now here he was, his red jacket pulled on over a black shirt with a belted pair of brown trousers and boots; always the kid who wanted to be in the Garrison, and his clothing choice proved such a thing to you. He had once been a student at the Garrison, you were aware, but had dropped out shortly after and had gone back to public college to finish his degree.
“Keith!” you exclaimed. He looked up from his phone and immediately his face brightened. He crossed the street with a light jog to his step before, taking you by complete surprise, he wrapped one arm around you and tugged you into a slightly awkward side hug.
“Y/N! It’s so good to see you,” he said. You patted his stomach, unsure of what else to do. He pulled away and looked down at you, stuffing his phone back into the pockets of his Garrison gear. “Were you waiting long? I thought I got the time right, but my phone’s been playing up lately so I could be very, very late.”
You chuckled, shaking your head. “No, no. I was a bit early, but I wasn’t waiting too long. Wanna go and get a drink?”
He nodded an affirmative and the two of you waltzed back into the crowded coffee shop. It was a cosy place, leather sofas set up and candles lit on each one. Large, condensation-littered jugs of water had been set in the centre of each table, and you had to admit that they looked incredibly tempting.
You ordered a hot chocolate at the counter, held it between your hands as if it was a cold winters day rather than scolding hot outside.
Keith ordered a caramel mocha before you two found seats on the far side of the shop, away from all of the prying eyes that didn’t exist; nobody was looking at either of you, but you felt oddly scrutinised. Perhaps it was the reputation of Keith not wearing off just yet. He wasn’t exactly known for being the friendliest person in the school, though the time you had spent together - as meaningless as it was at the time - had shown you otherwise.
“Sorry for texting you so out of the blue,” Keith began, and you almost let out a sigh of relief at the immediate conversation. “My friend told me you wouldn’t mind if I texted you - Jamie. You might know him?”
You took a sip of your hot chocolate to hide your laugh. “Jamie? It doesn’t ring a bell, but I’m glad he told you that. I was surprised, but it was nice. I haven’t seen anyone outside of my own family for nearly three weeks.”
Keith frowned then, leaning back in the plush leather sofa. “Are you not staying with the Holt family for the summer like you always do?”
You frowned. “How did you know?”
“Everybody was riled up that Matthew Holt was back from the Garrison. He was the only one out of our class that passed the exams and managed to get in, so everybody wanted to see him, to ask him what it was like.” He shrugged. “Plus, you two were always so close. I just assumed that if anybody would have spoken to him, it would have been you.”
Involuntarily, a blush crept along the edge of your throat and onto your cheeks. You wanted to change the subject, talk about anything other than the person Keith seemed to admire so much; looking into his violet eyes now, you saw that his opinion of Matt was nothing less than friendly.
“I am staying with him and his family, actually,” you replied.
Keith’s eyes popped open over the rim of his coffee cup. “Really? Did he tell you anything about his time at the Garrison?”
“I’m surprised you’re so interested. Did you not spend a few months there?”
Keith relaxed then, a lazy smile appearing on his lips as if he was happy that somebody had finally recognised his short time at the all-superior school of the Garrison.
“I did, actually,” he replied. “Only a few months. It was a bit too - controlling for my taste.”
You hummed. “I heard it can overwhelm people quite a bit.”
“It wasn’t overwhelming,” he insisted, clearly trying to make himself out to seem a little bit tougher than he truly was. You found yourself amused by the way his voice rose an octave higher as he came to his own defence. “The teachers were assholes.”
You laughed then. “Would you ever go back?”
“I don’t think I’d be allowed back. I broke all kinds of rules whenever I left - it wasn’t exactly an organised departure.”
“So the rumours are true? You just got up, stole one of their jets and left in the middle of the night?”
Keith blushed, ducking his head down to look at his crossed legs. “Something like that. It was more difficult than that, but that’s the basic jidst of it.”
You gawked. The rumours had been circulating campus for months after Keith arrived - or, reappeared would be a better term - but you had never believed any of them. The idea of somebody stealing from the Garrison - leaving the Garrison in general - was beyond your wildest imagination. The school was prestigious, one of the most difficult flight centres to get into. Anybody who had managed to get in didn’t just want to leave straight after.
And yet Keith Kogane was different, clearly, though you found yourself not entirely surprised. He didn’t seem like the type of guy who liked being pinned down to one thing, and by the sounds of the Garrison, it was an extremely difficult place to become comfortable in.
“Is Matt enjoying his time there?” Keith asked, suddenly. You hadn’t realised that you had stopped talking, abruptly making the conversation end towards that awkward silence you were so adamant to avoid.
You nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, he says it’s great. He worked hard to get into it, so I’m assuming he’s just taking every moment as he can.”
“As he should do,” Keith said. “He was always passionate about flying, I remember. So were you at one point.”
You blushed, remembering your thirteen-fourteen year old self, sitting beside Matt in the school playground, talking animatedly away about your dreams of overtaking the skies together. Your dreams of sitting side-by-side in a fighter jet, taking down enemies, saving the world.
The mere idea of you in a jet made you cringe now, knowing your stance on the whole thing.
“Didn’t everyone want to be something stupid when they were younger?” you asked, a mild nudge in a different direction. You didn’t want to reminisce on your time with Matt, lest the truth of your and Matt’s strained relationship slipped through.
Keith nodded. “I wanted to be a Galra.”
You giggled, covering your mouth. “A Galra? Why would you want to be one of those?”
“My mum was a big fan of the Galran lour,” Keith explained, nudging your knee slightly as you continued to laugh into your hand. “I read some of the books she brought home and thought they were just living the god damn life. It’s wild, I know.”
“Such a boy thing to do.”
Keith grinned. “Alright, Amelia Earhart. Going through space in your favourite rocket ship, or whatever way the song goes.”
You gasped, flicking your foot out and kicking Keith in the shin. He laughed at the movement, pushing you back lightly. “A fighter jet, Keith. I wanted to pilot a fighter jet. A rocket ship and a jet are two very different things.”
    “You’d know,” he chuckled. “Nerd.”
Your day with Keith went surprisingly well, you found.
Though the romantic air you had been worried would form had made no such appearance, that didn’t make the day any less meaningful. You realised, as Keith and you approached your front door, that a friendship could sometimes mean a whole lot more than any type of romantic relationship.
The night air was settling over the two of you by now, eleven o’clock spinning around all too quickly for you to comprehend. The day had ended in a fit of giggles in the middle of the park after Keith had insisted on trying to paint with mud. He had ended up nearly sinking within the mud put, and you had been forced to drag him out, getting your own outfit dirty in the process.
But it was friendly, and you hadn’t realised how much you craved such a connection with somebody over the past three weeks.
The lights from the summer home came into view as you pushed open the metal gate and led Keith into the garden. He had expressed his refusal to go inside of the house, worried he would either bump into your parents or wake them up, and you had agreed. Leading Keith Kogane into the same house as Matt seemed like an awful idea, especially when you were covered from head-to-toe in sun-dried mud.
“So I guess this is goodnight,” Keith said as you two approached the lit-up door. You turned to him, placing your hands in front of you as you smiled.
“Seems so,” you replied. “I hope we can do this again soon, Keith. I had a good time.”
“So did I,” he said. “Even though you insisted on giving me an extremely detailed run-down of the mechanics of a fighter jet.”
You shoved his shoulder. “And don’t you forget any of it. I’ll be testing you when we get back on campus.”
“I’ll make sure to study.” The two of you chuckled lightheartedly, the air dim around you, calm. The calmest it had been around you in weeks. It felt good, like a boulder had been lifted from your shoulders and discarded elsewhere, allowing you to just feel again.
As you and Keith shared your final goodbyes, the door behind you opened.
You turned, expecting Jamie to be there, or even your parents. They always managed to say thank you to the person who brought you home safely - they were just those types of people.
But your stomach flipped whenever you met the beaming, tired eyes of Matt Holt, standing by the door with his buff arms folded over his shoulders.
“Matt,” you squeaked before you could stop yourself. “What are you still doing downstairs?”
“I told your parents I’d make sure you got home safely,” he replied, his eyes trailing over Keith in an almost sinister way - as if Keith were prey.
You had a sudden urge to scold him, to tell him to mind his own business because it was no secret why he was doing this - he was either wanting a fight with you, or wanting a fight with Keith.
Going by the look on his face now, it was Keith he was wanting to hit more.
“Well, I’m home,” you said. “You can go to bed now. I can get myself tucked in nice and cosy all on my own.”
    Keith frowned. “I should go-”
“Why is there mud all over your shirt?” Matt said. His voice wasn’t stern - Matthew Holt was incapable of sounding angry - and his fingers weren’t rough as they plucked at the frills of your white shirt, frowning at the mess that had been made.
You shoved his hand away before pressing your palms into his shoulders, pushing him back into the house. “No reason, Matt. Go to bed. I just need to say goodnight to Keith and-”
“You need to get clean clothes on before the bugs start biting at your skin,” said Matt, and before you could even turn to say your final goodbye to Keith, Matt had slammed the door shut and was locking it.
You stood behind him, totally in shock and disbelief that Matt - the Matt, the kind hearted man who wouldn’t hurt a fly if his life depended on it - was being so rude to a person he barely even knew. Somebody who had gone out of their way to make sure you got home safely and in one piece, and he was treating him like shit.
Matt turned after the final lock was done up, trailed his eyes over your mud stained outfit and sighed. “I’ll get you some water whilst you get out of those clothes. How long have you been in them? I need to know how long to put the spin on.”
He attempted to walk past you, but your hand shot out and grabbed his wrist before he could get much further. He stopped abruptly, stumbling a little bit at the sudden contact, but you were utterly seething, in disbelief.
“What the hell was that, Matt?”
He raised a brow, and your blood only boiled to a much more extreme extent. You wanted to scream, wanted answers, wanted to kiss him all at the same time.
It was an odd feeling. Seeing him being jealous was satisfying in the sense that you knew you weren’t insane for feeling the same - if Matt had come home with a girl, you knew full well you’d probably be acting the exact same way.
But it was Keith, and you had firmly established that Keith was nothing more than your friend. Keith knew that, as well. Matt should have known that.
“I don’t know what you mean,” he replied after a moment.
You gritted your teeth. “Matt, this isn’t funny. Whatever it is you’re doing, I don’t want to be a part of it, okay? Let me do what I want, or stay out of my life.”
The words burned. The idea of Matt exiting your life - at your request, as well - was heartbreaking, but you stood your ground. You kept your eyes firm on his, never once looking away, even as you saw the bold emotion that he once held within them shatter completely.
“Go get out of those clothes,” he mumbled at last. “Bring them down and I’ll wash them.” He pulled his arm out of your grip, ran his eyes over you one last time before he headed into the kitchen, leaving you stunned in the centre of the living room.
Despite the exhaustion that rattled your bones, you did as Matt said.
You could have easily flopped down onto your mattress and gone to bed in the clothes you wore, as dirty as they were, but you knew Matt had been right in telling you to change. The bugs that no doubt littered the fabric now was bound to get you sick if you let them linger for too long.
You shed the clothes and got changed into a pair of night shorts and a tank top, turning on the ceiling fan in your room before exiting and heading back into the kitchen with your bundle of dirty clothes still in your hands.
By the silence of the house, everybody bar you and Matt had gone to bed. You could hear Jamie and Pidge talking in hushed whispers inside their room, but you knew they would be like that for hours now. You wouldn’t have to worry about either of them coming out to ask you about your day out.
Matt stood over the washing machine, adding in the detergent. He hadn’t turned around before you were coming up to the side of him and placing your bundle of clothes into it.
“There. I did as you said,” you grumbled. You turned lazily, your bones creaking and complaining with every step you took. Despite having been on a hike almost everyday for the past three weeks, you were still incredibly unused to running around and losing breath and being active. You were a college student; free time to do such activities was not a luxury you could afford.
“Y/N, wait a second,” Matt suddenly called out. Against your better judgement, you stopped and turned to look at him.
He was still leaning over the washing machine, hands gripping the edges with his shoulders rising and falling, indicating his heavy breathing. You had the urge to reach out and place a comforting hand on his shoulder, not enjoying seeing him look so broken, so lost, but you stood your ground and folded your arms over your chest.
    “What?”
He flinched at the harshness of the single word. “We should talk. I don’t want to keep fighting like this.”
“That’s the point I’ve been trying to make,” you grumbled.
He turned around now, looking at you with mildly bloodshot eyes that indicated his own exhaustion. He was fighting it off to speak to you.
“At dinner the other day, we were both being childish. If we want to sort this out, we shouldn’t do it whilst yelling over our families heads - it’s not fair on them.”
    “I know.”
“So let’s talk now. Here. Like adults.”
Your fingers dug into the flesh of your upper arm. “Matt, I don’t even know where to begin.”
“Pick a random place. Tear me apart. Just talk.”
The desperation in his voice startled you. You swallowed down the lump in your throat and sighed, letting your head fall to look at your arms, which were bumped with goose flesh despite the warm weather.
“I don’t want to do long distance, Matt. That’s all there is to it. There’s nothing I can say.”
Matt nodded slowly, as if hearing those words for the first time, finally understanding them, You could tell by the way his knuckles suddenly grew white against the edge of the washing machine that he was struggling to come to terms with such a thing, but you respected that he was at least seeing things from your perspective.
Your voice wobbled when you spoke. “What about you? What do you want?”
His Adam’s apple bobbed, and suddenly he couldn’t meet your eyes. It was like looking at a child up on stage during their first Nativity play - nervous, unsure of what to do, waiting for their turn to speak with the most neutral expression on their face.
“Do you want to hear the honest truth?”
    You nodded. “Always.”
“I want to be with you, and I don’t think it’s selfish of me to want that,” he said, and your breath hitched. You had expected it - he had made his feelings very cleat, but hearing them so open and unfiltered had your heart beat slamming against your rib cage.
He took a step closer to you. You fought the urge to back up, the heat from his body clashing with yours in a way that made your head swim.
“I’ve wanted to be with you since we were - what? - fourteen? Probably even younger than that. Back then I didn’t know what it was I was feeling, or why I was feeling it, and we had spent so much of our time together denying that we were in a relationship, that I just kind of always believed that was how it was - me and you, friends. And I loved every minute of my friendship with you, Y/N, and I will take a platonic friendship over nothing any day, but god fighting off my feelings for you even after we lost touch was the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do.”
   “Matt-”
“I went to the Garrison because it was my dream to go to the Garrison. You knew that.”
“I was so selfish whenever you told me about your dream to go there, Matt. I’ve apologised for it before, but-”
He stepped closer still, until you were forced to look up at him to meet his eyes. “And I will forgive you for it a thousand times over if it means we can have something.”
Your breath hitched all over again, and you were positive your heart had stopped beating in your chest. You always knew he was poetic - he was a Holt. None of them knew how to form a sentence that didn’t have a hint of Shakespeare to it - but this was different. This was so, so much different and it made your body ache and your fingers twitch with a need to pull him closer to you, with a need to feel his skin against yours in the way you had felt in the lake that god forsaken day whenever you had made one of the biggest mistakes of your life.
“You’re leaving at the end of the summer,” you whispered, your voice cracking. “I don’t want to go through that. Don’t make me go through that.”
Matt closed his eyes, and almost absentmindedly, he reached down and tangled your fingers together. They fit perfectly. You wanted to cry.
“I can promise you here and now, on every grave, that I will not just forget about you once I go back to school. I couldn’t forget about you four years ago, and I definitely can’t forget about you now.”
Your lower lip wobbled. “I’m scared.”
“Y/N, if it doesn’t work out-” He opened his eyes then and dragged your hand upwards, pressing it to the left side of his chest. You could feel the sweat through his shirt, feel his heartbeat beneath your fingertips. “-I give you permission to break my heart, okay? If being away from me makes you feel any sense of loneliness, like you can’t carry on the relationship, it would be my fucking honour to have you shatter my heart. But we can give it a chance if you want that, too. We can try this.”
Your mouth had run dry. Your brain had already made up its decision, but the erratic beating of your heart was swerving you in an all-different direction.
Nevertheless, you found yourself curling your fingers in the fabric of his shirt, just to feel something - anything - beneath them at this point. Your head was dizzy with the memories of that night on the lake, his lips against yours and his hands roaming your body in the way that felt so oddly right and scandalous and wrong all at the same time.
But there was nothing wrong about how you felt right now. Nothing scandalous or disapproved. You were so young, yet so sure and set-out upon your feelings - you had been sure of your feelings since you even knew what feelings were, what having a crush on somebody consisted of. You had joked about kooties, told everyone you would rather kiss Slav than go out with Matt Holt, but it had all been childish games back then.
Oh, how you wished you could go back to childish games.
You inhaled deeply. “I’ll give it my best shot.”
There was nothing else needed to be said - not really. You felt Matt’s heart stutter beneath his shirt, before his hands were falling from your own and placing themselves on your waist.
    “You’re sure?”
You nodded, biting your lip to hide the smile that was threatening to curl onto your features now. “I’m definitely sure.”
   “Thank God.”
And then his lips were on yours, at long last. The kiss was soft, but as the realisation kicked in that everybody was asleep, that nobody would walk in you now, you both took the chance. His hands slip beneath the fabric of your shirt, rested on the bare skin of your waist as he span you around and pushed you into the fridge, pressing his own chest to yours shortly after.
You gasped against the sudden coolness that slapped at your back, arching forward into Matt just a little. He groaned, lips never leaving yours but becoming increasingly messy as his mouth opened.
Your hands roamed through his hair, tugging on strands, pulling him back before chasing his lips and pressing them back together again in a way that clearly drove the Holt boy absolutely mad - this breaking of lips and coming right back for more was going to bring both of you to an early grave at some point.
Matt released one hand from your waist and placed it at the side of your head on the fridge. He leaned back then, the kiss fading into small pecks that consisted of breaking apart, staring into each others eyes, before pecking the others lips only slightly, and repeating the process until the laughter that was bubbling up inside of you made the movement impossible.
Matt was panting as he leaned his forehead against yours. “I - I needed that tonight.”
You nodded. “And what are best friends for, Matthew Holt?”
He snarled - a most attractive noise coming out of his mouth, if you were to say so yourself. “I don’t ever want to hear you call me best friend again.”
You grinned. “Sorry. Force of habit.”
He slammed his lips back to yours all over again, lifted you up and you squealed. Matt laughed loudly, pulling away to place a startled glance up the stairs. You shrugged, tugging at his collar and pulling him back towards you.
That night, Matt slept in your bed, and it was the best nights sleep you had ever gotten.

Voltron Legendary Defender Deserved Bette
Dear Voltron Fans Voltron Legendary Defender Deserved Better now I say it's the writer's fault or that it's DreamWorks because frankly, I have no idea at this point.
But I will say is that starting Voltron with the very first season I thought it was tremendous, but I slowly watched it go from third to two thirds from bad to worse.  In the beginning, you could tell that the writing was focused clear and neat and you could feel the rush after us being more rushed after season three. And yes after reading, ... Comment link in the description below that they did lose some decent writers for the series and they were also rushing it out towards the middle to final parts of the seasons. I particularly felt they were out of ideas by season seven, That was the worst season for so many other reasons than killing off Adem, But I'll get to that further on. In the meantime, the big disappointments I feel happened, are the many missed opportunities they could talk but didn't, lack of world building and lack of character development and relationships.
Particularly in lance's character development, in the beginning, he was going to laugh more a lot more but that was left out.  I just shame because he really had some good foundations for a strong character. Lance acts arrogant and cocky but beneath that he's insecure, scared but is brave and willing to sacrifice his life for others, Lance is the kind of person who put aside his fears it and wants for the good of others and frankly I just feel like his character potential was wasted throughout the series. Not to mention how his" friends" Pidge and Hunk treated him but that's a topic on the whole other level.
Mainly the character relationships between the teammates, Season 1&2 were all we really got with development between the characters and their relationships, and really was a light touch on the subject but not much.
Of course, we were all curious what was Keith's relationship with Shiro?
What was Lance's rivalry with Keith really about?
Would Pidge and Lance developer brotherly-sisterly relationship with one another and the loss and separation of their family members, and what kind of relationship with the be like?  Would blossom into a small romance?
Would lone Wolf Keith eventually become comfortable with his teammates and open up about his traumatic past with the other members about his life and becoming a better team player?
Would they ever find Matt Prof. Holt alive, and if so what with their feelings beyond the aliens after being violently abducted versus their dreams of meeting intelligent life, how would this affect professor holds you on the universe after this?
Who's Keith's mother and whatever happened to his father? This is disappearance have something to do with the galaxy Garrison? Where is Shiro? And what happened to him? would Shiro and Allura have a relationship with what few tender moments they had on-screen? We ever get to see Allura is passed on Altea?
And what happened to Shiro during his time as a Galra prisoner. Why was Hagger trying to make and so strong, and how much experimenting did she do? Was he so similar to Altans was she trying to infuse his genetics with what Altan DNA she had left? Why Shira going to be an experimental hybrid between human and Altan DNA?
Did King Alfor secretly build a six lion, the white lion?
What was the galaxy Garrison really up to, especially Commander Irvington and he seemed to have so many secrets and want to keep a lid on them?
Did the galaxy Garrison had ulterior motives? Was there something more nefarious going on there? And how much do they really know about alien life? Was there it a secret organization behind the whole thing. Was Dare I say, the ancient villains Galactor somehow involved in the now globalized government military system, pushing things forward for their own benefit behind-the-scenes, and with this lead to the legendary team-up of GForce with Voltron, and somehow the Macross consortium.
(Though I know this last paragraph is fan wishing)
All these questions were answered never because most of them never happened. Yes, we got Shiro and Keith's backstory. We got to meet Keith's mother and find out the fate of his father which in my opinion was sad but not really what I was led to believe based on the episode the Blade of Mamora, in which keep this up to see his father, but is not shot that he's alive again considering he's compound dead in the later seasons. We also at least get to see how case parents met but it just doesn't go into too much detail about that either. For instance we seek will only as reaction was she being saved from the shuttle that's good, but what about a reaction after she regained full consciousness, her reaction to her pregnancy, her spending more than just a few minutes of screen time with baby Keith, all this would have a lot more depth to the relationship between Krolya and Keith's father's as well as their son. I'm not saying they should have done a whole relationship thing throughout the episode, but a bit more than what they gave us would've been nice.
As for Lance and  Pidge's relationship, it completely disappears after season three. We seen Pidge still getting jealous over Lance is flirting and self-idolization with beautiful girls in the first episode of season three, but after this, we really don't see much more of it leaving the question what happened. We know that Jaquam De Santos and Lauren Montgomery of specified that while all more rise the girl Lance wants she's not exactly the girl Lance needs and with the way the relationships were going we could assume that Implied the back girl could be Pidge. Yet after all of this, we just see them growing more and more a part as the series progresses and not in a good way. Later in the season it's obvious he feels bad the Laura's going after load tour despite the fact he claimed in his “ unquote” interview” that there are plenty of fish in the sea and that is by not settling for one girl, (yes I know there are many inconsistencies in the script) yet here he is moping and clearly upset about it, while Pidge and His Best Friend, Hunk Rob into his face that the Prince and Princess will be getting into a relationship together. And they do nothing to lighten his mood a little bit about it, that just basically making fun of him without any remorse or empathy for how he feels. And this is supposed to be the team that is supposed to have such a strong team bonding can take five mystical lion robots and combine them form a super giant robot? What the heck!
Of course, Keith gets more distant from the team instead of getting close to them. While yes it was the fault of a fake Shiro, Wouldn't he have a stronger bond with Shiro after the years he's known him to know that there was something off about this Shiro? I'm just saying the relationships for a long time tend to notice problems even small ones. But then again the two producers have shown they can't really write relationships well.
That aside, I really think that during Shiro's disappearance this was a great opportunity for the team to get know each other better and bond more,
Allura could have gotten to know Pidge better than what her life on Earth was like. Her past experiences with her not so great male classmates and teachers. How page feels about herself, what she likes what she dislikes, and in turn, she could learn a lot about a Laura and how she had to deal with things, what life is like to be the Princess of the entire planet and the responsibilities that came with it. How they dealt with things and how they could learn from each other how they could handle it in the future.
Lance hunk and Keith could've all gotten to know each other a little better. Lance could've learned Keith despite being the best in his class did not come from perfect life. He lost his only family member at a young age and had basically lived from foster home to foster home, dating a distrust of people and a cold distant Attitude because of it. Keith could've learned about both Lance and hunks families, how even though they came from big families they still have their difficulties as well as their joys. How being the younger sibling can be somewhat adult indulging but being the uncles that they are, is a big responsibility. And it could warm up to Keith by offering him to come to spend not next holiday with their family when they return to Earth. This would also really be a great opportunity for Lance because despite his rivalry with Keith he sees a twice been hard for him and he reveals that he's insecure about his status at the Garrison because his older siblings are much more accomplished than he is. And he Felt he should be just as good as Keith, in order to prove that he was worth something not just everyone but himself. And this helped break down a lot of barriers between him and Keith's cold relationship. As well as hunk having a better time understanding Keith knows how to relate to him better and is able to form a better bond.
Keith and then Pidge could have a bonding moment because they were both disrespected by their teachers one for being a bit too smart and the other for being a bit too brash. It also would've helped that they had a bonding moment with a Laura over the missing she wrote as a Laura had obviously befriended him, and page knew him as a friend of the family and how we both meant something to each of them.
Instead, most of these potential ideas were pushed to the sidelines in favor of moving on for Rush plot with some not so good episodes will step away from that for now and explain what happened to Shiro in the meantime. What we don't learn much about the experiments that were done to Shiro, we do know that his owner was used to make clones of him. How when why was this done? we have yet to get an answer!
We also learn that Shiro was, in fact, gay, and a former lover on earth but broken off because of his drive for the stars which is understandable, but we also learn that he has a terminal illness that is slowly shutting down his muscles and going to eventually kill him at the beginning of the seventh season. And it would great if we had this all the way back in the know the second season when he disappeared and apparently DIED! But also apparently there were three more episodes edited each season that were cut after certain riders left the show makes you wonder doesn't it, what they really did have a plan for the reveal. And it's not that I don't have anything against Shiro being gay it's just I like I said earlier, I would have loved for them to show signs of that earlier. according to what I've heard from the writers they had planned to make him gay and kill him off before the execs told them it wasn't a good idea. And frankly I agree with that, as it was not obviously the best writing idea to kill off a gay character in a supposedly positive modern action cartoon, if anything that shows that you're still stuck in the 70s and you're not with the times if you're going to be killing off the LBGT characters.
Frankly, I would've loved that Shiro is bisexual, and have a lightly explored relationship between his love for Allura in his former fiancé Adam. Heck even a Laura Adam having a conversation about top issues behavior is a leader and how I felt it was just too rash for him but that's what Allura loves about Shiro, how she's not so different from him herself and how need this strength from each other to push forward for the better.
But I think the biggest missed opportunity, especially from how they set it up, was not making the galaxy Garrison and enemy or at least a threat. There were hints in the first season that they were hiding something, they knew something was wrong on the Kerberos mission and it wasn't the pilot error. And it went through great lengths to hide it, even going so far as to ban the future grapevine that would've been a great asset to them from the base merely because she wanted to find out what happened to her family. They could have secret ulterior motives to try to steal some of the alien technology to push their own to make later expansions to the universe for the human race. Maybe they could've had their own ideas for Galactic conquest, or better yet had a secret agreement with the Galra military or possibly even connections thought Price Lotor himself. True there could've been some who wish to just protect the planet but it was so much more interesting having them as the bad guys. That's why was hoping the Gallactor was secretly running the Galaxy Garrison. I mean what else would you have a militarizing space program conveniently located all over the world. Conveniently making the galaxy Garrison the only world defense it's very suspicious.
All and all there was so much room for this kind of development but in the end of for one reason or another, they just didn't do it. I don't know why they did it this way and not 100% sure if it was the rush, executive pushing deadlines, saying some things were unnecessary, but what I do know is that the show could have been great. The show could really been something amazing, something different from all its predecessors,  something unique, something special. But in the end all it seems to me is that it's going to be a spectacular flop. Season eight debuts tomorrow and I don't know if any of you viewers will have the strength to read this beforehand as I know some of you will stay up late watching midnight (me I'm waiting till the morning). But I just hope your first and final viewing experience of this series isn't total garbage. But if it is, there is one solution find out all we can about the series before and after it was written, and do a rewrite of the series. We can do a crowd funder, signed petitions, right our own fan fiction and make our own comics of the series. Let's just remember even if it's not what we wanted we still have the fanscape to express how we feel about the series and how it made us feel. Happy viewing to a season eight

Mark Gatiss: I learnt my entire moral code from Doctor Who - radiotimes
Tumblr media
The writer of Who episode Sleep No More speaks passionately about how Third Doctor Jon Pertwee guided his childhood, and why shows like Sherlock and Doctor Who should be cherished for much more than just audience ratings
Mark Gatiss urgently wants to get something off his chest. He’s a polite, affable man, but there’s a furious fire burning in his breast – about ratings. The ratings system is insane and iniquitous. I’ve seen grown men crying because their show got 6.3 million [viewers] instead of a hoped-for 6.5. They make a difference to a person’s career.”
His scorn has been stirred by the muffled bells ringing quite audibly during this current series of Doctor Who. (He’s written Saturday’s episode starring his old League of Gentlemen mate Reece Shearsmith.)
In September, mirrors were turned to walls and curtains were drawn as observers sorrowfully/gleefully announced that so-called “overnight” ratings saw Doctor Who slump to a “ten-year low” (against The X Factor and Rugby World Cup on ITV) with fewer than five million viewers.
But Gatiss, stage, film and TV actor, documentary-maker, author and co-creator with his great friend Steven Moffat of the stratospherically successful reimagined Sherlock, is having none of it.
“These overnight figures are based on a system of 5,000 set-top boxes, which is essentially a Gallup poll and we all know how accurate they are. If they provided a thumbnail sketch of what people are watching, fine, but people’s careers and projects rise and fall with them. This is nuts. Everybody watches television in a different way from the way they did four, five years ago. Yet the people who make a fuss about overnights are the same people who go home and watch TV in an entirely different way.
“That’s the modern world we live in and I’m not being defensive, but when you add everything together – timeshifting, plus iPlayer – [Doctor Who’s] ratings are the same as they ever were. But there is no capital in saying ‘Doctor Who’s ratings remain roughly the same’, so people make a story out of it.”
‘Bake Off will never be watched again – Doctor Who will be watched in 100 years’ time’
The Great British Bake Off final was recently handed the most-watched show of the year crown with more than 15m viewers, but Gatiss won’t roll over: “There’s a huge difference between the temporary popularity of a game show or factual entertainment show and something that has a proper legacy. Those episodes of Bake Off or The X Factor, and their virtues are manifest, will never be watched again. Yet Doctor Who will be watched in 50 years’ time, 100 years’ time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. I love things to be popular, I want things to be watched, but this sort of scrutiny is deadly.”
Gatiss is so angry because he loves, and has always loved, television. Growing up happily in County Durham, he was obsessed by Doctor Who, horror films and horror stories. They provided a refuge from hated PE lessons. In his recent Who Do You Think You Are?, where he found he’s descended from Irish royalty, he held up his career as “a long revenge against PE… children who are not necessarily sporty should take a bit of heart.”
“Television was a huge friend to me. Anything supernatural I would just hunt out, and I loved all of those great big dramas like Poldark and The Duchess of Duke Street, and that Brian Clemens series Thriller. As a kid I really wanted to be in something like The Six Wives of Henry VIII [BBC’s 1970 historical blockbuster with Keith Michell as the axe-happy monarch].”
Though Gatiss satisfied that particular Tudor ambition when he appeared in Wolf Hall as master of the dark arts Stephen Gardiner.
Dodging the eye of their PE teacher, Gatiss and a friend would walk around the football pitch talking about horror. He even made “a small living from writing unbelievably gruesome stories about murdering all the teachers we hated”.
“I learnt my entire moral code from Jon Pertwee”
Bloody tales about javelins being inserted into brains were favourites. “I used to dream of not having to go outside in the cold to play football and instead sitting in the library. I think you can do that now, so maybe the pendulum has swung too far the other way.”
Of course, Doctor Who was little Mark Gatiss’s favourite TV show – and it should still be on at teatime, he insists, not nomadically some time after 8pm: “Put it on at a proper time, put it on where it should be, when Pointless Celebrities is on. That’s where it belongs, otherwise you are almost perversely cutting off your key audience, which is children.”
This is particularly important for Gatiss: “I learnt my entire moral code from Jon Pertwee [the Doctor, 1970–74], and also what TV still should be about, which is a very Reithian thing. I learnt so much from TV in the best kind of osmotic way. I absorbed morality, I absorbed a kind of scepticism and enjoyment of story, and oddness, and narrative. These days it’s so hard to get those things through; it’s almost become a dirty word to say ‘culture’. Education should be so much more than getting a good job.”
I first met Mark Gatiss in 2000 in a chilly disused hospital in Manchester when he and his friends Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and Jeremy Dyson were filming series two of The League of Gentlemen, the one where an epidemic of nosebleeds strikes down the grotesque population of that weird northern town, Royston Vasey.
The four of them became friends and performers after meeting on a drama course at Bretton Hall, then a part of Leeds University. “We had a totally shared sensibility. Sometimes people talk about the League as if we spotted a gap in the market and filled it. But basically it was just what made us laugh, horror tinged with all of those things we loved, like Rising Damp, Porridge, Mike Leigh films and Alan Bennett, who is an absolute copper-bottomed god.
“After my Desert Island Discs I got a postcard from him. I was so touched. He said he was in a real hole and stuck on something and I’d said something about him on the show and he told me it completely bucked him up. I thought… if I’ve done that for Alan Bennett…” Of course, he doesn’t have to end that thought.
Sherlock Christmas special will be modern and period
Gatiss, who’s 49 and lives in north London with his husband, actor Ian Hallard, is currently writing scripts for the new series of Sherlock, in which he also stars as Sherlock’s ascetic brother Mycroft – but anticipation for the Christmas special, The Abominable Bride, is heady.
“It’s a Sherlock ghost story for Christmas, but that’s all I’m going to tell you.” Unless the trailers are particularly obtuse, it’s set in the Victorian era. Why take Sherlock back to his original chronological habitat? “Steven [Moffat] and I realised that now, and at no other time, we would have the chance to do what Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce did [in the Sherlock films, 1939–46], which was modern and period.”
Gatiss and Moffat’s shared love of Doyle’s books and the Rathbone/Bruce canon sparked many meandering “wouldn’t it be nice if” conversations between the two before the decision to go ahead with a modern Sherlock was made.
“We confessed that the modern-day-set Rathbones were our favourites of all, which was heretical. We talked and I said, ‘Isn’t it funny that in A Study in Scarlet Dr Watson is invalided home from war service in Afghanistan and we were going through another Afghan war. We looked at each other and the light bulb went on.”
Benedict Cumberbatch, whose star has rocketed to the highest reaches of the heavens, was their only choice. Casting Watson took a bit longer. “We saw about half a dozen people but as soon as Benedict and Martin [Freeman] were together, Steven leant over to me and said, ‘There’s the show.’ ”

If you were to take the information we have now, and write the entire rest of vld, how would you write it? Not as someone who ships things a bunch or has any bias or anything, but purely doing what's absolutely the best thing moving forward in the show. What would you do & what would be your primary focuses? (Again, not your ideal dream now- ideal for the show and to do justice to it's plot & characters.)
I mean, it’s kind of hard to say what would be “best” for the narrative from my perspective since it isn’t my story and I might be misreading things and not really see what it is the creators really want to convey. Since “what would you do with everything” is a huge question, this will basically be centered on characters and there development. But anyway, just from my own point of view, I guess here’s a few things–would move forward with the idea that Kuron is a clone.
I’d give him an arc where he struggles with identity issues and feeling bond to the empire. Throw in some mind control because that explains the headaches and things, but I’d have him fight it. Ultimately, when he realizes he’s a clone, he runs away to find out more information about Operation Kuron for himself (while ensuring he’s far enough away that he can’t be used to spy on or unknowingly hurt Team Voltron). Have him eventually sever his mind from the galra and be welcomed into the team as one of their own, becoming the Ryou of VLD.
Tumblr media
On the other end of the spectrum, I wouldn’t give Lotor a redemption arc. I might be too influenced by older series but like, I just don’t feel like he could pull it off. I also don’t think he wants to. I imagine he’ll occasionally work with Voltron or even the BOM, but I don’t think their goals will ever properly align. He has his own agenda. Redemption arc also implies you admit you’re wrong, and I don’t think Lotor is at any place right now to feel that way. Even when the series ends, I don’t think he’ll feel like “one of the good guys,” more like someone who did what they believed was necessary and still remains a very guarded person.
Hunk needs another character focused arc, since the Balmera was quite some time ago. I’d like some followup on the potential of him being a diplomat that the writers had mentioned–and he was recording alien lines in one of Bex’s posts I think, so it seems that’s very possibly in relation to that? Hunk is interesting because he’s very amicable but also doesn’t trust others easily, he has good intuition like that. But the Balmera arc has also cemented his motivation as a character. He wants to help free others from Zarkon’s control. I’d like to see some more followup on that angle too, either freeing prisoners or leading revolts. Because that’s clearly something he really cares about. Hunk’s kinda faded into the background lately because he wasn’t involved in the lion switch, he doesn’t have a clear link to the galra empire like Keith, Pidge, Shiro, or Allura, so. It’d just be nice to bring him back to the forefront a little.
Tumblr media
The fact that Allura says she doesn’t really understand her magic on Naxzela, in fact what she says specifically–“I haven’t been trained.” Okay so, let her train. Let her go on her own personal quest to find a mentor. Maybe one of the Alteans survived–hell, maybe Pollux exists in this universe and Romelle has similar enough powers that she can teach her. Or maybe one of the druids goes rogue and tries to teach Allura what they understand about magic and can theorize about other Alteans’ use of it. But let her have a proper teacher, let her learn, let her discover more about her people and her history. She was a princess, so why wasn’t she trained in the first place? Were there some aspects of her magic Alfor didn’t want her knowing about, and if so, why? At any rate, I think Allura deserves to know what it is she’s dealing with and have a fair chance at mastering it. Figuring everything out yourself can not only be extremely difficult, but also very isolating. Let her have some support there. Keith got to train with the BOM, I say let Allura train with another Sacred Altean (I believe that’s what Coran called them?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know everything worked out very well with Pidge finding Matt, and I’m happy for her. But I can’t help but feel like things will not turn out quite so well with her dad–and if the garrison is in on the galra empire’s dealings to some extent, she might discover some things about her dad she’s not proud of, and quite frankly, I’m Scared of it. That aside, I think Pidge will do more copiloting with Matt, and I’d also like to see her work alongside her brother with the rebels a fair bit. As for Pidge’s own journey, I think she’s done a lot of self discovery already. I like the path she’s on right now. If anything, I’d maybe like to see her grow more in tune with the rest of the universe like the olkari taught her, maybe expand a bit more on that philosophy and what it means to her. Interestingly enough, at the end of the day, if anyone is still a paladin (or something like it, depending on whether or not the Lions still exist) I think it’d be Lance and Pidge. I’d like to see the two of them continue to explore the universe and defend it together.
So on the note, let’s talk a bit about Lance. I’ve mentioned lots before how much I love his parallels with Alfor, and I think that’s very much where we’re headed. To me, that’s who Lance needs to be. Not the Black Paladin, not the leader of anyone. But someone who can carry on the legacy that Allura entrusted him with. His strength as a character was in learning to put others above himself and do what’s best for the team. That moment was really integral to him, and I think as time goes on he will continue to head down that sort of path. He needs to learn to see the bigger picture, to embrace his role as someone who’s strong enough to steady others rather than just focusing on himself.
Tumblr media
Allura didn’t tell anyone else about her very personal connection to the Red Lion, Allura never said Keith was like Alfor, Allura never told anyone else the significance of her armor. She’s the one who helps Lance embrace his new role, and Lance in turn is the one who welcomes her to the team. So to get into that other part of the question about not putting bias on ships into it, it’s kind of hard not to, since the two things I really ship are also the ones that I see as most prevalent in the narrative and puts these characters’ best interests at heart. Lance is still so clearly in love with Allura. And when she smiles at him softly, or he tells her she’s the heart of the team and believes in her enough for her to awaken her own inner power, like–I think they’re meant to be.
They each help each other balance out their own insecurities and have grown incredibly supportive and protective of one another. I also think Allura feels like she’s able to be more open with Lance than the other paladins right now, seeing as she told him so much personal information about herself and her own beliefs. That sort of comfort doesn’t come easy, and they are growing very comfortable together. When Lance rushes to her side on Naxzela and helps her stand, lets his hand linger on his back a moment, she doesn’t pull away or feel offended by it (and we know from episode 1 she’d have no problem saying so). Instead, these types of things are comforting gestures. I think they’d be very good for each other. (Also on the topic of ships, just put me on record saying Hunk and Shay should be a thing. I think that’s a given.)
Tumblr media
Also, would like more backstory about Coran personally, and maybe some flasbacks of him and Alfor. Let him and Allura mourn more and let them have those moments to just stop and breathe. I’d also like some sort of parallel to the original storyline where Coran believes his wife and son died but then his son sort of returns and that’s a whole thing. I think a more serious character focus episode like that would be good for him.
So now, let’s get to Keith and Shiro. Because the thing is, their stories are inexorably intertwined. If Keith’s been trying so hard to save Shiro, only to find out he’s still missing Shiro, well–I can’t imagine that would play out well. And I’ll just say right now, he’d be the one to either find or save Shiro. He has to, because that’s how the narrative sets it all up. Keith is the one who will never abandon Shiro, who puts his absolute faith in Shiro, who would go to the ends of the universe and back again just to stand beside him. And it would be remiss to mention them without noting that a great deal of the overarching story revolves around the theme that Keith will always be there to save Shiro, no matter what. This is it for him. No going back. “As many times as it takes.”
Tumblr media
This would also serve to mirror two different storylines. Firstly, there’s the original Golion, where Akira (Keith) tried to save Ryou Shirogane at the very end. And in fact, when forced to choose between him or Voltron, he chooses Shirogane. Ultimately, Ryou disagrees with that choice and ends up getting himself killed, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking. You know, kind of like how it seems Keith would always choose Shiro over everything else. This singleminded dedication also mirrors Zarkon choosing Honerva over the rest of the universe. Both Keith and Zarkon are galra Black paladins who have sworn to do everything for the person they love. And whether you read Keith and Shiro’s dynamic as romantic or not, there’s certainly enough very intentional parallels with zaggar to indicate the former.
Also, going back to the question of what’s best for the story, and if we consider the possibility of lgbt representation–noting that Lauren said anything they intended for it was already there in that first season, then I think the thing that makes the most sense is sheith. Lines like “Your friend desperately wants to see you,” “Nothing was worth Shiro’s pain,” “How many times are you gonna save me before this is over?” “As many times as it takes,” “It’s good to have you back,” “It’s good to be back,” “This one’s for you, Shiro,” “Shiro was the one person who never gave up on me, I won’t give up on him”–they’re all very powerful. And incredibly intimate. To me, everything about their dynamic, including deep buildup and parallels, really lends itself to a more romantic relationship. To me, that suits the story more than it doesn’t. (And from a bi guy’s perspective who also struggles with the pushing intense emotions and relationships away like Keith, his side of things in particular really resonates with me.)
Tumblr media
It’s also worth noting that this isn’t just a one way thing, and Shiro very much saves Keith as well in his own respect. He was Keith’s anchor, he was there when no one else was. He can trust himself to be vulnerable with Keith without fear, he can take solace in that comfort that still comes so easily. He can let his walls down around him. He can show signs of “weakness” and Keith will never think any less of him, Keith will still insist he’s the leader they need and it’s Keith who gives him more of that spark to keep fighting. They’re always validating each other, can seamlessly work together. And the fact that they alone formed Blazing Sword, Voltron’s greatest weapon, is a testament to their bond.
So anyway, if I can just return to this idea of Keith needing to save Shiro, or vice versa–thematically, I think it’s very important that’s the note Voltron ends on. Because Keith is someone who’s always suppressed his emotions, who’s been led to believe it’s easier to be alone than be hurt by loving others. And then you have Shiro, who now fears he’s a weapon, a monster, someone fundamentally unfit to lead or even unworthy of being a paladin. Someone who seems more afraid of letting others in, who keeps his walls up. And then you have Zarkon’s fate–this cautionary tale about how you have to make harsh sacrifices, about how loving someone too fiercely can be dangerous and even your ultimate downfall. That you have to think about this abstract “greater good” over personal loyalties.
Tumblr media
But here’s the thing. Keith and Shiro can’t fall into the same trap as Zarkon. As the new generation, they have to be able to surpass their predecessors. And ultimately, Keith and Shiro should be able to save each other without the rest of the universe coming to some great cost, without losing fundamental pieces of themselves. Rather than being doomed by love, for Keith and Shiro, I think that will be their salvation. For them, I think that’s the lesson that they need to learn. That Keith doesn’t always have to suppress his emotions, that it’s okay to love. It’s okay for Shiro to let himself be vulnerable again, it’s okay for him to lean on others when he needs it–the way Keith always did with him. Neither of them have ever seen the other as a monster–even with Keith’s galra blood and all the galra have done to Shiro, even when Shiro and Keith were both so afraid of themselves. It’s a way to escape this vicious cycle set by both the old Voltron series and VLD Zarkon’s legacy alike, and I think it’s the kind of message that’s best to relay.

Stay For A While Chapter 2
I’m back with chapter two! Keith gets to meet new people and we learn a little more about him. Nothing super serious but yeah. I talk about Keith’s artwork in this chapter and I decided he does dark abstact art mostly with pencil. Honestly I just googled it but here is the link anyway. https://www.google.com/search?q=dark+abstract+art&safe=strict&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjg2a26svnaAhXi6oMKHdrhCEcQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=700. Oh also Pidge is here and I have Pidge go by they/them pronouns. There is bullying in this chapter but not about that. Chapter one is also on my page and I honestly have no clue how to like tag it in here so if someone could tell me I’ll totally do that. Anyways uh it’s teen and up and I hope people like it thanks.
After a long weekend of shopping with Allura Keith is exhausted. He was able to get some new clothes that actually fit and got some paint for his room which he is very excited about. He wants to paint his room black with grey storm clouds and is shocked when Allura agrees to it.
“It’s your room,” she says, “we want you to make it your own.”
Keith has been painting all of all day on Monday and listening to music as he works, he is interrupted by the lightest touch on his shoulder making him jump and swing his fist behind him which is just barely dodged by Shiro.
When Keith realises what he almost did he removes his earbuds, “Shit I’m so sorry are you ok?”
Shiro chuckles, “Yeah I’m good sorry I called your name but I guess you didn’t hear me.”
“Yeah I play music kind of loud.” Keith mutters.
“All good,” Shiro says chuckling, “I just came to tell you that school is starting in a week and the principal wants to meet with you before that. I have to go today for practice so I was thinking you just come with me.”
Keith crosses his arms closing in on himself. Due to his record principals usually want to meet with him and it usually doesn’t go well.
Shiro sees this happening and frowns, “The art teacher also wants to meet you.”
Keith looks up at this, “Really?”
Shiro gives a small smile, “Yes Coran is a good friend of ours and when we told him you were an artists he said he had to meet you.”
Keith smiles slightly and nods his head agreeing that he will go. Shiro walks out so Keith can get ready. He changes out of his paint colored black clothes into some clean black clothes  but instead of jeans opts for some ripped up black shorts that go to his knees. He throws on a red beanie that he got over the weekend with Allura. At the last minute he decides to grab his sketchbook and stuffs it into his bag incase the art teacher wants to see his work.
He heads downstairs when he is ready to see Shiro waiting at the door. Keith puts on his black converse and they head off to the school.
When they arrive at the school Shiro insists on going with Keith but Keith refuses, saying he will be fine on his own. Shiro reluctantly agrees and says to meet him at the football field when he is done. Keith nods on confirmations and beings to walk into the office meets the secretary Ms. Haggard, she looks up and glares at him, “bathroom is around the corner.”
“No umm I’m Keith I’m here to meet the principal?”
Ms. Haggard looks Keith up and down making him tense up, “Take a seat over there.” she directs.
Keith goes over to the seats and puts in his music. He wonders what this principal will be like. There are some who try to be his friend and there are others who threaten him. He doesn’t really like either of those but rather prefers the one that hides out in their office but he doesn’t think that will be the case this time, those guys don’t want to meet him.
“Principal Zarkon will see you now.” Ms. Haggard says.
Keith nods and walks into the office. He is greeted by a rather large man sitting behind a desk wearing a suit who is not even bothering to look up from his paperwork which Keith realizes is his file, if Keith was anybody else he would call him intimidating.
“Have a seat Mr. Kogane.” Zarkon gruffs.
Keith sits down at the chairs on the other side of the desk. He looks straight at the man across from him because he refuses to look weak in front of this man.
Zarkon looks right at him, “I have read your file and I am not pleased with what I see.”
Keith crosses his arms, Zarkon continues, “In previous schools you have gotten into fights, pulled fire alarms, and even punched a teacher.” He slams the file closed probably trying to scare Keith but all Keith does is glare at him while saying, “I had my reasons.”
Zarkon scoffs, “That’s what they all say.”
Keith shrugs. Zarkon stands up towering over Keith, “I don’t care how things worked in your previous schools or if people let you get away with things because they feel bad for you but that will not be the case here at Voltron.”
Keith laughs slightly at this, “I’ve heard all this before.”
Zarkon gives a sinister smile, “Well if you have heard it then you should know that if you do anything to disrupt this school I will kick you out of this school.” While talking Zarkon has stood up and is towering over Keith.
If Keith was a weaker man he would be terrified, but Keith has gone face to face with people a lot more intimidating than a high school principal. Keith stands up to get in Zarkon’s face ready to tell him exactly where he can shove his threat.
He never gets the chance because both men inside are startled by the door being pushed open by a man with orange hair and impressive moustache, “Zarkon I heard my newest art student is here!”
Zarkon pushes himself off the desk so he is standing up right and waves his hand toward Keith.
Coran either doesn’t notice the tension in the room or chooses to ignore it, “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you my dear boy!,” He shakes Keith’s hand, “I am Mr. Coran, the art teacher at this fine establishment.”
Keith gives a small smile, his fighting instincts slowly fading “Keith.”
Coran claps his hands together, “Splendid well why don’t we get your schedule from Principal Zarkon here and I can show you around yes?”
Keith picks his bag up from the floor and nods to Coran.
Coran gets his schedule for him and reads over it, “My you are a smart lad! Follow me! It was good to see you again Zarkon!”
Zarkon grunts as a response to Coran and gives Keith one last deadly look before Keith is pulled out the door by an excited Coran.
----
Keith and Coran walk down the hallway with Coran leading the discussion, “You have art with me right after lunch! Oh that is the best time because you aren’t hungry and can really focus on your projects!”
Keith smiles, he likes Coran, he seems really nice and likes art as much as Keith does, “What kinds of projects will we do in class?”
Coran somehow smiles even wider than he did before, “I like all my students to express their art however they seem fit. I will just assign a color scheme or an emotion and students have free reign from there.”
Keith nods in understanding, he really likes the idea of being allowed to do whatever he wants for the most part. He feels the weight of his sketchbook in his bag and decides to show Coran.
Coran actually bounces with excitement when he sees the sketchbook, he hold himself back from grabbing it as to make sure Keith is comfortable.
Keith speaks, somewhat self-conscious, “I really like abstract art.” He shows Coran his some of his better sketches.
Coran looks at the artwork in pure awe. He is currently looking at a drawing of what looks like a mans torso, it is drawn in pencil and it is dark and rough.
Keith continues, “I prefer dark colors but I will occasionally through in some other colors to add to it.” shows him one more picture this one a skull with what looks like fire in its eyes. Keith realises this is the most he has talked to a teacher basically ever so he immediately shuts his book and stuffs it back in his bag looking away.
Coran sees Keith closing up and wants none of it, “Well my dear boy I think you will be a great addition to art class this year.”
Keith looks back at Coran and gives a small smiles, “Thanks.”
“Of course boy! Now I’ve shown you where all your classes are let’s get you to the football field hm? I’m sure Shiro and Allura are wondering about you.”
Keith nods and they head over to the field not saying another word which Keith is grateful for.
----
They arrive at the field and Keith waves goodbye to Coran and sits down in the bleaches. Shiro and Allura see him and they both wave. Keith waves back then puts in his headphones and gets his sketchbook out to pass time.
Keith does not now how much time passes exactly but his focus is interrupted by something happening off to his side. When he looks over he sees two of the cheerleaders one of them has short hair and one has a very long ponytail, they are talking to someone sitting down this person’s hair is short and going everywhere and they have big round glasses, they seem to be a few years younger. Keith looks at their posture and can tell that they are not very comfortable. He turns off his music to listen in.
“Look Ezor,” they short haired cheerleader says, “It’s the little bird.”
“Yeah your right Acxa,” Ezor says, “What’s their name again? Pidgen?” She laughs.
Acxa laughs too, “No no I think it’s just Pidge. What kind of name is Pidge anyway?”
Pidge clears their throat, “Can I help you with something?” Pidge says with mock confidence.
Ezor gasps, “Holy shit the bird talks.”
Pidge looks up at them, “I am not a bird.”
Acxa waves them off, “Yeah yeah whatever you say bird.”
Keith puts his sketchbook away, he does not really like where this conversation is going.
Ezor speaks, “What are you even doing here anyway? Shouldn’t you be in the library studying in your little nest?”
Pidge rolls their eyes, “I’m just waiting for my brother and my friends. Not that it’s any of your business.”
Axca’s eyes light up, “Right! I always forget Matt’s your brother just doesn’t seem right.” She looks Pidge up and down.
Ezor smiles, “I know right? I mean Matt is just soo dreaming and you,” she looks down at Pidge not even finishing her sentence.
Axca continues, “Right! Also Hunk and Lance are your friends? I mean that makes no sense. Bet they just keep you around out of pity.”
Keith decides he has heard enough of this. He gets up and walks over to where they are standing and goes behind Pidge. He gives the two cheerleaders his most terrifying glare and their expressions immediately change to one of fear.
Pidge notices the looks on their faces and turns around to see Keith. They jump slightly but turn back around to glare at the girls as well. Both girls try to speak but nothing comes out and they walk away, “This isn’t over bird.”
Pidge just waves smiling at them. Pidge turns around to thank the guy behind them, “Hey umm thanks.”
By now Keith’s glare has gone down slightly, “No problem.”
Pidge smiles and holds out their hand, “I’m Pidge by the way but I guess you already knew that if you were listening.”
Keith takes their hand, “I’m Keith. I’m new.”
Pidge’s eyes light up, “Oh right! You live with Shiro and Allura right? They mentioned you last year.”
Keith nods, “Yeah.”
Pidge laughs, “Talkative.”
Keith shrugs. Pidge is about to say something else but is interrupted by someone calling their name. It’s three guys but one of them is a lot louder than the rest.
Pidge rolls their eyes, “Well that’s my cue to go. I’ll see you around. Thanks again.”
Keith nods and Pidge runs off to join their group. Shiro and Allura show up soon after and Keith goes off with them decided this school isn’t that bad.
