today my professor was talking about gender and the way kids are raised in society and he brought up kingdom hearts as an example of an unusual piece of media for its time that was seemingly meant to be appealing to both boys & girls and to both adults & kids (presumably cuz like it’s got the anime stuff and the disney stuff and you go through all sorts of different genres and it’s both whimsical and serious) i was like totally zoning out but i snapped awake when he mentioned that lol

It's always tempting to debate bigots about their bigotry, but honestly the best thing you can do is often to directly help those affected by said bigotry.

Bigotry doesn't exist to be debated. People who are bigots do not care about debate - they care about humiliating their opponents. You cannot outsmart somebody who doesn't give a flying fuck about their position being incorrect. You will be playing a completely different game by trying to debate somebody out of their bigotry.

The best thing you can do is to show up for the marginalized. Check in on them, talk to them, and engage with them as people. Ask them if they would like help and then respect their answer to the best of your capabilities. Oftentimes, that will be sufficient enough and will go a long way.

I love and respect anyone that still wants a Rat Grinders Redemption Arc™️ but I also have major beef with the idea that “the teens who were manipulated, abused, and/or traumatized by adults were killed in self defense or to stop the literal apocalypse by another set of teens who were also manipulated, abused, and/or traumatized by (likely some of the same exact) adults before they got a redemption arc” being taken to mean that they were intended to be depicted as irredeemable.

Like honestly with Freshman and Sophomore Year I can see that argument being made for the fact that despite resurrection being possible, not a single adult did anything for Penelope or Dayne. However we already know that Jawbones got his foot in the door with Kipperlily and we know that Henry genuinely cares about and is concerned for Ruben.

I think this go around has already proven to be more complicated but even if it does end with TBK killing TRG, that’s doesn’t signify TRG being “morally corrupt and irredeemable”. It signifies TBK being teens not knowing how to navigate the complexities of dealing with. All that.
