Okay has anyone read the book In Five Years? Cause it was super super sad but it DID give me a NOT sad Sparah fic idea.
Spot has a dream before the strike, a vision- if you will. In the dream he wakes up in a room he doesn't recongnize and on the bed next to him is a note that says “in the garden. There’s coffee, I love you” and he explores this room he doesn’t know, finds coffee just how he likes it on the stove, sees his cane propped by door, with no memory of putting it there. An open window blows lace curtains in, and leads to a fire escape, which he follows up.
He’s greeted by Sarah, hair up, hands dirty in the garden. He doesn’t know her. He’s never seen her before, but he can tell she loves him by the way she looks at him. They talk, Sarah makes plans for the day while Spot tries to make any of this make sense. Eventually he wakes back up in his bed in the lodge house. No time has passed, the strike hasn’t started yet, he hasn’t met Sarah Jacobs yet.

Nothing like my usual posts but I just finished Babel by R.F. Kuang and I’m in a book hangover so I need something new to read.
If you know any books with gay characters, murder and dark academia vibes, or similar to the books I usually post about drop the title in my ask box pls.
(I also like historical fiction, thrillers, fantasy and occasionally romance, so if you have any favourites on those genres drop them too)

I read a book.
It's not exactly the best book I've read or anything like that. But I have just fallen in love with it. It's based in America and obviously mentions places, brands and food that outsiders can't exactly relate to. And in the beginning parts that really bothered me. It started slow but moved onward with a very specific aim. The early parts held me a little bored- nothing to get hooked up on, nothing that made me want to continue reading. But I soldiered on. The last ten chapters were worth it.
I'm not saying that it suddenly turned on the axis and became the best book ever. It just sped up a bit, but in a way that wasn't noticeable. It became more un-put-down-able. The characters changed, evolved, became more or less relatable. A theme became more clear. It was something that had been always there, something you wouldn't have noticed, wouldn't have given much thought to. It made me wish for something I didn't know existed. Something I still don't know whether I have in my life or not.
This was the best part for me. This was the reason I started writing this post. Because the theme that struck me so was friendship. Friendship that fills the heart and flows over. The type of friendship that is pure love. Two friends and their story. That is what it was. It wasn't a love story, it wasn't a tragedy, it wasn't an adventure story. ait had romance but it takes second place as far as I'm concerned. I don't think I'll ever be able to place this book in a genre. It was like I went to live five years in the life of someone else. It was a very different experience from most other books I read - As though I finished reading it and then the effects were felt a little later only. The hangover setting in some time after a drunk party. And I'm still not out of the haze.
This was not the best book I read but somehow I know that it'll always remain in my heart.

As heartbreaking? 🥲 AS HEARTBREAKING?
If you’re referring to my reply on a reblog of In Five Years then yes Part 2 won’t be as heartbreaking. It’s a little bit because it’s set in Endgame 🥺 but I promise the heartbreak does not come from Bucky 💖

Just to make a point, every time I finished a panel of this I would export it as a PNG on the perceptual setting and use it as a color reference for the next panel
IT'S BAD
PLEASE CHECK YOUR COLOR SETTINGS
EDIT: If you're still having problems, it might help to switch from "Save/Save as" to "Export (as a) Single Layer". Just. Make SURE the box labeled "Expression Color" is set to RGB. I've been messing with this all day, and it looks like this combination of settings will allow exported PNGs to maintain their colors perfectly. To you. So far both Discord and Toyhouse still only display desaturated images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why

Given my admiration for Rebecca Serle's previous work, particularly "In Five Years", picking up this ARC was a no-brainer for me. Her skillful storytelling and ability to delve into complex themes had me intrigued from the get-go. So, naturally, I was eager to dive into her latest book.
Approaching this book relatively blind turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Serle once again showcases her talent, crafting a narrative that is both engaging and emotionally resonant. Trust me, y'all are in for a treat when this book hits the shelves.
Moreover, I felt an extra sense of connection to this book because of a special day that I'm celebrating later this month. Have you ever stumbled upon a book at just the right moment in your life? A book you didn't even know you needed to read at this particular moment in time? That's precisely how I felt with this one. Serle's exploration of health issues and their impact adds depth to the story, sparking important discussions about love, life, and relationships (not just romantic). It was the perfect read for me this week, and although it was very emotional, I'm so glad I read it when I did.
One standout element is the recurring theme of "expiration dates" for relationships. What a fascinating concept and Serle explored it in her tale so well. Just the way Daph invests in people based on these dates, as a reader, I similarly invested in and shipped the characters based on these dates. It was a pleasant way to read about and enjoy characters (especially as someone that loves book boyfriends).
From interconnected stories to a gripping overarching plot, this book offers a compelling reading experience. And that plot twist? Wow.
Starting my February romance reads with this book was a great choice. With Serle's work setting a high standard, I'm eager to see what the rest of the month holds.

There is a path of land that exists
Beyond the sea and the sky.
It is behind the mountains,
Past even the hills—
Those of luscious green that
Roll up into the heavens.
I have been there, with you.
It is not big, although not too small.
Perhaps you could perch a house on its width,
But we have never considered it.
What would be the use?
We already live there.
When the night closes
And the city stills,
I am there, with you.
Our mouths laughing, our heads vacant
Of all but what is.
And what is? I ask.
This, you say. You and I, here.
