Obi wan episode 5 spoilers:

“You’re a great warrior Anakin, but your need to prove yourself is your undoing. Until you overcome it, a padawan you will still be.”

This may be a reach, but 1)it makes me ridiculously happy and 2)I have seen plenty crazier fan theories, so I NEED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THIS LINE.

OKAY. (Deep inhale) so.

“Until you overcome it, a padawan you will still be.”

Why did Obi-Wan phrase it like that? He could have easily said “you will still be a padawan.” It would have made more grammatical sense, and it would have been consistent with the way he usually speaks. Maybe they were just being fancy and thought it sounded/flowed better. Maybe it didn’t mean anything because no one cares, FC, you’re the only one who obsesses over stuff like this

OR.

Obi-Wan was mimicking Yoda. To those familiar with the Jedi Apprentice/Jedi Quest series, this would be a significant detail. If you haven’t, let me catch you up.

Jedi (often padawans) would mimic Yoda to each other occasionally, to express affection for the Jedi Master *and* for each other. We see this when Bant, Obi-Wan’s best friend, is tearfully bidding him goodbye as he leaves the temple for Bandomeer. Another notable time is when Obi-Wan speaks this way to Siri Tachi when they’re both on a doomed ship, presumably about to die - and *right* before they profess their love for each other.

So, when Obi-Wan speaks this way to Anakin while admonishing him, could it be that he’s doing this to reassure Anakin of his care? Especially the way the line is delivered, Obi-Wan’s hand on his shoulder and pat on the back, it feels an awful lot like he’s saying, “Anakin, you’re a brat, but you’re *my* brat.” And you can see in Anakin’s face that he doesn’t believe it. In AOTC and ROTS, he’s practically non-responsive to his master’s concern and love for him. And Obi-Wan cared so much. It’s heartbreaking.

Obviously, this detail doesn’t change anything- but it *does* (at least to me) adds more depth and color to Obi-Wan’s deep love for Anakin. They practically grew up together. Obi-Wan was 25 *and* a brand-new Jedi Knight when he took Anakin on. Anakin joined the order way late in life (at 9 years old) but was actually really young to be a padawan, since younglings are usually chosen by their masters between 12-16 years old. They were both so young, and practically thrown together at Qui-Gon’s behest.

They went through a *lot* in the ten years between their pairing and Anakin’a knighthood. They truly were brothers - two sides of one coin., which makes Anakin’s eventual betrayal all the more devastating.

I mean. Look at his face. How can you not love him?

Does anyone know what’s going on with Dan and Phil’s stereo shows? I was re-listening to a few as I sew, but last week ish LonelyWriter’s YouTube recordings of them all became unavailable except for one, and both Dan and Phil’s stereo accounts in app show them as having 0 past shows? I just wanna hang out with them while I craft :(

oh damn, i see. there are all episodes on In Depth Bants channel. i have no idea what happened with the originals on stereo, i didn't even know they were there. they were?

does anyone know what happened?

SON except we follow on from this THL post.

This is a mess... But here we are.

Unfortunately as things usually are, not everyone can go with Jason.

Hera brings up the Argo that Leo had found and Leo remembers that lot of work needs to be done for it.

So they split up.

Jason, Percy and Piper, will head to Camp Jupiter and Annabeth and Leo will stay to work on the Argo with the rest of the Hepheastus cabin.

And as much as Annabeth and Percy hate to be seperated they know that she's better suited to help with the Argo II.

And Piper, with her charmspeak to get them out if things go south.

Thalia just flat out refused to leave Jason.

So our group goes to go do, diplomacy(?).

What could go wrong?

Shocking....Literally no one, things goes wrong.

They still have Juno being carried by Percy, his immunity being washed off.

Jason tries to help but... Juno said nope.

Luckily she leaves them to go and get to the camp and will reappear convienetly later.

Thalia puts together a camp and fire for them to get through the night.

The group pass the time talking.

Piper talks about training with Clarisse, feeling she has to constantly prove herself.

As well as the story of the BMW.

Thalia bants back and forth with Percy and asks about Jason's upbringing.

Jason, gives them all the run down.

... Suffice to say hearing your brother was raised by wolves who would threaten to kill him if he dared show fear and than put in an army... Makes Thalia a bit mad.

... Okay very mad.

Just hugs Jason close and his touch starved little heart melts.

Jason admits he's nervous, that he never quite felt at peace until he was in Camp Half-blood.

Piper is appalled, and Percy... a survivor of military schooling is a teeny...

Tweeny bit absolutely pissed at the idea of kids being in an army.

"... Okay I know we also do that but at least we're more subtle about it..."

He gets mad when he hears about the town like area of New Rome, demigods living peacefully and living their lives.

Wishing Camp Half-blood had the same.

... Though than gets more mad bout the idea of adults nearby doing jack shit while the kids are in the army.

Percy does however swears to Jason than nothing he sees or witnesses will change his opinion of Jason.

A sentiment that Thalia and Piper echo.

They are friends, nothing can change that.

Jason, stumbles out a thank you and maybe cries a little because it's the first time he's had real friends.

He does get a bit embarrassed about it.

Percy just smiles, gives him a hug and tells him crying doesn't make him any less strong.

First time Jason's ever been told that.

Percy tells him a story about how he cried the first time watching finding Nemo.

Leading to a way to in depth explanation about finding Nemo, another hug and a promise to show him when all this is over.

When the time comes, Percy carries Juno though he makes it clear he isn't happy about it.

Thalia even refrains from teasing him about it, having to stop herself from cursing out Juno for putting Jason with these people.

After she admits it was her.

Walking into Camp Jupiter's boundaries the assembled Romans bow before Juno.

And with reluctance, the others bow as well.

"Praetor Grace! Praetor Grace you have returned!"

The assembled Romans salute him abd Jason salutes back with a smile.

Someone runs off and returns with Reyna and Octavian.

"Praetor Ramirez-Arellano and Augur Longinus."

Jason runs to them and embraces them. The two lose all lose all manner of professionalism and hug him back.

With Reyna overjoyed he's returned and Octavian shocked before smiling warmly.

The two bow before Juno who introduces the others as Percy Jackson son of Neptune, Piper Mclean daughter of Venus and Thalia Grace daughter of Jupiter.

A banquet is proposed by Reyna, for Jason's return and to celebrate that he's finally found his missing sister.

Thalia smiles warmly, hugging Jason and says she's been looking forward to meeting them both.

Which is before the entire 5th Cohort comes running in, some tackle Jason into a hug, others are cheering and they all throw him up into the air.

Reyna explains that while Jason was raised at Camp Jupiter, the 5th was his first and true home.

Jason is about to go with the 5th to catch up but doesn't want to leave his friends behind.

Said friends smile and wave him off, telling him to go have fun and Jason happily runs off with the others.

Reyna offers to show them around and Octavian mentions needing to go to consult the augeries about the new comers.

Percy sensing somethings off asks if he should go with him and Octavian agrees.

Reyna gets to know Piper and Thalia, the three trade stories of growing up, learning about Camp and at some point have a sparr.

With Reyna complimenting them both.

Piper is suprised to learn that her skills aren't seen as a suprise here unlike at Camp Half-blood. Nor is her parentage used to make her feel weak.

Being that the founder of Rome, Aneias was the son of Venus. And thus she is held in high regard here.

Giving Piper confidence.

Octavian explains the teddies, that his namesake used actual people but this was a better solution to him.

He does thank the little guys for their service and sews them up though which Percy reckons can't make him all bad.

But he has a feeling.

And that feeling has gotten him this far so he stays on guard.

The group all reunite at the banquet, Jason joining them sitting beside Thalia and Reyna happily talking about his day.

Also Nico is there and introductions and... I definitely don't know you looks are given.

Percy ends up near Frank and Hazel and makes introductions. While shy at first they both manage to open up though Percy notices that Hazel keeps shooting looks at Octavian.

Some point later Mars shows up and Percy feels a very murderous urge but luckily his attention isn't on him.

Frank is issued a quest and a prophecy is given by Mars. Though Octavian seems annoyed by this, because he's supposed to give the prophecies but doesn't say anything.

Percy, feeling bad for Frank offers to go with him and Hazel and the trio set off.

Before he does so, he shares with Thalia and Piper his suspicions on Octavian and the two promise to keep an eye on him.

The quest plays out as canon.

Switching back and fourth between it and Camp Jupiter.

Hazel after revealing her curse explains that it's what Octavian had black mailed her on.

So that she would vote for him to be Praetor.

Percy, seeing vote as kill has them all rush back.

Meanwhile, Thalia and Piper along with Nico realise Octavian is up to something and that more and more campers are getting distant and distrustful with Jason.

Confusing Reyna and them.

And deeply hurting Jason.

Piper is able to corner and charmspeak them into telling her that it's because Octavian's black mailing everyone.

And that he's had visions of Jason is conspiring with the Greeks to overthrow Rome.

They than find Jason's missing and find him on the ground with Octavian over him.

Octavian wearing a Praetor's attire.

Just as Percy, Hazel and Frank show up.

And it's revealed Octavian has been trying to get rid of Jason to become Praetor.

He always wanted to be Praetor and saw Jason as unworthy of such a title.

Believing he earned it simply because of his parentage and not earning it at all.

But why he wanted to get rid of him rather than merely voting him out is because Octavian had a vision.

Of the Camp in flames and Jason hugging the person responsible.

And siding with the Greeks over the Romans.

"He's a traitor"

Reyna glares, stating the only traitor is him and Jason is heartbroken.

Having never wanted the title but was pushed into it.

We also learn now why Jason was running in the lost hero, it was because a hoard of monsters were released by Octavian into the Camps collisium that Jason had been trapped in.

Jason managed to escape but was persued, his coin was in Octavian's grasp and because of the Doors being open the monsters would not die.

Something Jason had only recalled now.

It chased him for days.

What he said to Percy before blacking out was "please! Help! Don't trust Octavian."

In Latin.

It had taken the last of his strength to tear them apart and Juno's last minute divine intervention to kill them off.

And he'd only now recalled what had happened.

Before anyone can do anything, a dagger flys through the air pinning Octavian's stolen Praetor sash to a pillar.

And we see Annabeth aboard the now repaired and airborne Argo II.

Heard everything and pissed.

"Try that again and this time I won't miss."

"Who are you?!"

"Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena."

The Greek camp is revealed, along with the true parentages of the others and Reyna rubs her head and sighs.

"Anything else?"

Octavian uses this as fuel to encourage the Romans to arms and to destroy the Greeks.

Reyna, shuts it all down stating that they will handle this diplomatically.

Jason is standing motionless as Thalia holds him, his eyes empty as his truest and closest confident berates and calls him a traitor.

Percy hates that he was right and the group head into the senate to talk and discuss why they did all this and the looming threat of Gaea.

And Jason feeling more alone than ever despite sitting by Thalia.

Also Octavian's last name in this, Longinus comes from Cassius.

Gaius Cassius Longinus, the guy best known from the Shakespeare play Julius Caeser for being one of the conspirators who lead to Casers assassination.

Felt fitting.

Alistair ref sheet by @iravaid

Probably the character of whom I'm most proud, and who's come the furthest since their ideation. Alistair was originally... almost a joke, riffing off the templates in the early Clanbooks that were really obvious expies (Giovanni Lara Croft springs to mind). Hence, Vampire Malcolm Tucker - a foul-mouthed, scheming fixer with no official power in the Camarilla but a terrifying personality and an understanding that he was there to do the dirty work. Then I actually started playing the old fart, and worked out a whole CV for him, and between his being a coterie Retainer in Blood Money (my sadly abortive 1960s Dunsirn game) and a coterie Mawla in Wild Roses, he started to get... depths.

His gangster past developed out of my deep and slightly embarrassing love of Guy Ritchie movies - look, VtM is a Mafia thriller with fangs, it owes as much to the gangster genre as the gothic mode, and Snatch came out when I was a teenager, it's just... one of those synchronicities. There's something about the grotty, chippy, top-bants-with-the-lads energy of those films that I think works for a peculiarly British kind of vampirism, especially for an Anarch game that's opposed to the higher, cleaner, classier grace-and-favours qualities of the Camarilla. And of course, the violent farce plot structure works so well for a TTRPG, which is after all a Disgraceful Behaviour Simulator anyway.

Historically speaking, Alistair occupies a kind of Arthur Thompson shaped space in Glasgow's underworld (one might, if inclined to really force the historical point, suggest that in-WoD, he successfully assassinated Thompson in 1966, becoming the connected and feared three-dots-in-Retainers ghoul he needed to be for the start of Blood Money proper in 1969).

I can talk about this old man... a lot. He's enormous fun to play - abrasive, charming, absolutely unafraid of Kindred ten times his age. They've been around longer than him but he's older than them, he's lived a full life and has none of the insecurities an eternal twentysomething is stuck with. Also, that one dot in Composure giving rise to furious swearing fits in moments of crisis always puts a smile on my face.

seeing as it is the spooky season I thought I would ask about the time your OC was the most afraid.

Happy Halloween!

I think if we're talking about my fanwalker, Joseph, it would have to be the night his spark ignited.

He was a child, only eight years old, and it started when he was woken up by some sounds coming from behind his family's home. His father went out to investigate, and from the window, Joseph and his mother watched in horror as a vampire came from their chicken coop and attacked his father.

In a frenzy, his mother rushed him and his little brother to the cellar to hide, but the vampire knew better. Before long, it had broken into the cellar, and Joseph was made to watch as it attacked both his mother and his little brother.

When the vampire finally turned its attention to him, soaked in the blood of his family, Joseph's spark ignited, and he crashed head first into a rock on the shard of Bant on the plane of Alara.

Joseph has since seen many horrific things - from a mother gryff being mauled to death by werewolves to the way a group of zealous cathars slaughtered a coven of seemingly innocent witches. Joseph has even taken part in some horrific acts he, at the time, did not realize the depth of.

However, the night of his sparking made him realize the horrors of the multiverse, and ever since then, nothing has quite hit him as hard, no matter how horrific those events may be.

~ what was your fave fic to write and is it different from your actual fave fic? ~ the best man was my favourite fic to write but say yes to life is my favourite fic overall, i think. it's the one i go back to read the most and it's just cute af.

~ what colors are each of your fics? (only picked a few lol) ~ blue-green the best man (dr) - i felt incredibly zen when i wrote this story and now reading it back i love how well it flows through the scenes, like the ocean lol

dark blue there when you call (dr) - i remember imagining a dimly lit room where the only light sources were the city lights sparkling outside her windows and the blue light from her phone. all the moodiness and tenderness cloaked in darkness. lost in japan (ln) - similar vibes; rainy nights, steamy showers, whispering sweet nothings under sheets. late night phone calls are my jam.

blue-violet unless you like that (dr) - it's a little more lighthearted than the dark blue fics, definitely has an edge of humour but is equally as sultry as the others.

red ruin the friendship (cl) - fwb makes me go a little feral so this story was just fuelled by passion and straight up deviancy. and ferrari red for our ferrari boy, right? one of my kind (dr) - it's got that red light fever feeling, debauchery galore and semi public sex so it's kinda the epitome of the colour red. steeeamy.

yellow say yes to life (dr) - a fluffy story full of happiness and sickly sweetness. not in the mood (cs) - i get a sunny disposition feeling when i re-read it back so yellow feels fitting. it's also set at the beach and soft carlos is light and gorgeous and sunshine. down under (dr) - this doesnt exactly give me yellow vibes but it's probably the most humorous fics, oozing with innuendo and bants so it's light-hearted and fun.

pink strawberries and cream (dr) - this one makes me blush so pink it is.

orange itch (cl) - it's somewhere between yellow and red because it's naaughty and steamy but also is a ridiculous concept and has some funny moments. red desert (dr) - all of the rural australian references obviously makes me think of the colour orange and i did try to encapsulate the feeling of having sun-kissed skin and watching the little grains of dirt washing down the drain once the sun sets in all it's orange and pink glory.

Hot Steamy Banter Review

so i just listened to the newest episode of banter with sykkuno as a the guest and…i don’t really have much to say! (other than what i’ve said before under the tag #banter discourse) it was a typical episode, similar to their ones prior to hiatus. i do appreciate that they let sykkuno talk a bunch and as someone who doesn’t watch sykkuno i feel like i got to know and appreciate him a bit more which is cool! i also appreciate that they stuck on one topic (sykkuno’s move to youtube) for a while and gave opinions on twitch vs. youtube, etc. not only because this is an interesting topic to me but i think it’s valuable to go in depth on a topic rather than keeping it surface level the whole time, which is what i felt like they did in past episodes. it felt like an interesting discussion to listen to, especially for someone who might not know a lot about twitch vs. youtube streaming thing

i do wish that sapnap would talk more and karl would be a bit..idk..more selective and intentional? about his stories. some of them feel kinda irrelevant. buuut this is me being picky and obviously not every piece of media is going to be perfectly catered to my interests and humor

i’m more interested to see how their next episode with just the two of them is. i’m really glad that they’re doing this because one of my main critiques before was that we as listeners didn’t really get to know them or their dynamic at all without a guest in past episodes. i think strengthening their dynamic as a duo will make it overall more interesting and funnier. because the name is “banter” but i’m still kinda waiting for the bants. but overall i enjoyed this episode more than the others!

btw, if you’re like “why did this bitch feel the need to write 3 paragraphs just to not even say much about this podcast” it’s because i’ve talked about it before and had fun critiquing it, so i figured i’d continue the tradition!

hey I just saw a gift of the iI cocktails but they don’t mention the drink being cherry flavoured. Where did people find that out? People who had the drink?

i spent like over an hour looking for the answer to this earlier this week and couldn't find the source on it anywhere on my blog, but i distinctly remember seeing a picture someone took of the menu that listed out the cocktails and what was in them? possibly we had this info from a tweet?

it was at the houston show on july 3rd 2018. if anyone else who was active at that time can find the info on the pinof cocktail being cherry flavored you'll be my hero

The Great Banting Like William Experiment begins!

I had my baking soda water upon waking (not a tablespoon, I'll get more into that later).

My first Banting breakfast! Starbucks tea, Trader Joe's grass fed beef roast, and half a keto hotdog bun (you better believe I'm buying real bread and rusks (Melba toast or similar) later today!

Yes, I will be eating real bread (no sugar added) and fruit and drinking red wine and chewing nicotine gum. There is a reason I am choosing to experiment with straight up antique Banting, and I'll probably go into that in a lot more depth later. But suffice to say for now that IF tends to make my immune system take a nose dive and I can't take any more nausea and headaches and low blood pressure I get with the keto flu. I am in ketosis right now, lightly, because I didn't have an appetite yesterday and ate very little (confirmed last night with ketostix). But the last time I got into deep ketosis, even without strict IF, I felt awful for three days.

In the past I figured out I can use alcohol to put the brakes on the keto flu and fix the symptoms I tend to develop by the late evening with a meal and a drink or two. So although it runs contrary to common advice, I think it will work well for my personal situation. Plus I'm already riding the yellow pony (nicotine, don't start if you haven't kids, you may NEVER get that monkey off your back).

I once asked an expert what he thought about the original Banting diet, and he was concerned about epigenetics. Also, there is the fact that I am a woman, and also that when I start working again I can't be having multiple glasses of wine at lunch. And I don't think most American meat is fatty enough to not use butter. I dipped the bread in the au jus, but the roast was dry and I had to make an extra cup of tea to get it down and chewed an inordinate amount. I'm also curious what eating this way will do for my microbiome and digestion. I find ramping up fat quickly seems to be rough on my poor pancreas, and although nothing abnormal happens I do have looser stools and gas. Maybe all this dry stuff and cutting out dairy will help ease me into low carb in a more gentle way.

Fun fact: I am starting The Great Banting Experiment at almost the exact same weight as Banting was when he started: 203 pounds. He was 202. I will be recording my weight in the same time intervals that he did to compare my progress with his. I'm PMSing so I expect the first weight loss to be more than his was over his first 12 days (which was only 2 pounds) due to water weight.

Final breakfast thought: If anyone has tried following the original Banting diet to the letter (to the Letter lol) in a blog similar to this, I couldn't find it. Not Banting as slang for diet, I'm talking eating four meals a day with tons of meat, no butter, wine, all that jazz. If it's out there I would love to know about it, so please send me a message.
