standing at the bow of a star destroyer at her uncle’s side, staring out at the rocky terrain of the planet beneath them, jyn would be hard-pressed to disagree with his words. the men in question –– the rebels –– will be no match for a barrage of imperial weapons. if there is to be a fight, it will be an easy one.
while it’s not certain, jyn has spent hours decoding secret messages from what is likely a rebel base on the planet below, hidden underground in natural rock formations and mountains. despite the excitement in the air –– it feels as if they’re all collectively holding their breath, waiting to see if her hunch is correct –– a small pit has formed in the bottom of her stomach. a small part of her doesn’t feel –– right, what they’re doing. a surprise attack, with no chance for the rebels to fight back ? it will be a slaughter. and if there’s civilians down there, or hostages. . .
no. this is what she’s trained to do, what she’s prepared for almost her entire life. exhaling sharply, she reminds herself there’s no backing out now, not from her duty.
she curls her hands around the railing in front of her, loose and almost carefree, forcing a ghost of a smile curling at her lips. there is little chance she’s gotten this wrong –– she’s spent hours picking over the data, double and triple-checking her findings. “ you’re right, of course, uncle orson, ” she says with a slight tilt of her head. despite the familiarity between them, he is still her superior officer. “ just give the word and i will begin the assault. ”

//. i could make a timeline split where imperial!rham’ir is killed at the praetorium but considering he has the echo and likely would have been the warrior of light under different circumstances, it just makes more sense to have him survive through both his own healing and sheer stubbornness (and hydaelyn shielding him during ultima because haha echo i do what i want). when he wakes to find the damn place charred to bits, he takes it upon himself to look for survivors, but knows in the back of his mind that they’re done for, especially if they go back to garlemald after this catastrophic failure.

Poses seductively. Tell me more about the Garlean catboy and how he survives in that less than friendly society.
//. @tyrannls // mun questions i think perhaps (i dont remember but thank u for the question anyway yes i would love to talk more about rham'ir's imperial verse)
Rham’ir is not blind to the blights of Garlean society, especially its treatment of annexed peoples and non-Garleans. All things considered, however, Rham’ir lead a very privileged and well-off life thanks to being taken in by a high ranking officer who is known for his compassion. He had a roof over his head, healthy meals, clean clothes, access to good hygiene, and an adoptive father that loved and cared about him and wanted the best for him. Within the home, he found peace and acceptance, contrasting with the racism and bigotry tossed at him outside of it.The high rank of Atticus sas Corvus wouldn’t protect him forever, nor would he be able to hide behind his leg as he did when he was a child as he grew of age.
Rham’ir faced a lot of physical and verbal abuse from peers and elders alike outside the home, often referred to as a pet or a servant. Given his lack of citizenship, he had very few rights and could do little for himself or his benefactor, including self-defense. When he was fourteen, he’d run afoul of a handful of youths who took it upon themselves to attack him. He dragged himself home for the evening and was tended to by Atticus, asking after a period of defeated and shaken silence how hard it was to join the military. Initially, Atticus wouldn’t dream of allowing Rham’ir to join the military, cutthroat and cruel as it tended to be. But after hearing Rham’ir’s heartfelt pleas to be allowed, he eventually relented, and Rham’ir would join the military not as a soldier, but as a medic.
Rham’ir ultimately decided to pick up healing arts far less with a desire to help his fellow soldier and anyone else who needed it, but as a means of taking control of not only his own life, but those of others, those who had harmed him in the past specifically. While he would indeed find great joy eventually in helping those who treated him with respect, Rham’ir equally took pleasure in bending those who harassed and assaulted him in the past to his will. As he excelled, Rham’ir would find many friends in his peers, forming strong bonds with them and advancing in the ranks for his prowess as a combat medic in addition to commanding others’ respect.
Cruelty was met with cruelty. Those who harmed those lower than themselves were denied his succor, and he would deliver orders to let those who begat harm unto others to die miserably where they lay and to be left to the wildlife. Garlemald’s vindictive toxicity would eventually creep into him, manifesting in a desire to save those who respected those around them and leaving those who didn’t for carrion. Rham’ir, of course, would eventually be confronted by Atticus about his blatant malpractice, which turned into a heated argument between the two.
Of course, for all of his coldness developed as he grew to adult age, Rham’ir still held that tenderness he exhibited as a child, and would eventually break down, deeply lamenting his treatment over the years as well as those of other non-Garleans and non-citizens alike. Atticus would, of course, lament this alongside him, but would beg Rham’ir to not lose the kindness that he’s capable of simply to fend off a few vultures. Following this encounter, Rham’ir would gradually lose his venomous edge, taking Atticus’s words to heart, and loosening his grip on his soldiers, eventually growing to be known by his men (who survived) for his compassion and relatively easy nature (compared to what he was before).
This is not to say that his time in Garlemald (and the wounds inflicted upon him by Eorzea) did not leave him with some certain anger. It was this anger at the treatment of his people not only in Garlemald, but in Eorzea as well, that pushed him to request he be assigned to the 14th Imperial Legion, wishing in part to ensure that nothing like what he had gone through as a child happens to any other Keeper children again, and to exact some form of vengeance against the city-states that he perceives having failed him.

//. atticus gets a big miqo’te-shaped doll for rham’ir so he can cuddle and cling to it at night since he’s still very young and is completely bereft of all with which he’s familiar. over time, he gets him more stuffed toys, but it’s the miqo’te ones that rham’ir gravitated to mostly, usually carrying one around with him. even as an adult, he still has one at home for sentimental reasons, even if the design of the toys in general leave... a lot to be desired.
rham’ir cries a lot after the first day he’s brought home, a lot of it being from the shock of what he’d been through, as well as the frequent occurrence of nightmares and still missing his mom and his family. the first day specifically, he doesn’t cry at all, at least not at first, and is instead silent, shaking and terrified from the last couple of days since his rescue from a pirate ship. when rham’ir realizes he has to rely on atticus as a guardian, he clings to him, both literally and figuratively, and doesn’t let go. of course, it takes him hours of hiding from atticus before he eventually relents due to hunger and wanting warmth, and it’s a slow and careful process, but a successful one. one of atticus’s go-to methods of comforting a crying rham’ir was to wrap him up in blankets like a burrito (since he, as a miqo’te child, was very small), hold him, and tell him stories until he fell asleep.

//. rham’ir in his imperial verse would turn out far better adjusted than his other verses due to his upbringing under atticus corvus. while a high ranking military man, atticus was one of the few garleans who sought to better the realm with annexation to garlemald as opposed to outright conquest. fearful for the child’s safety, atticus was quick to jump at the chance to take him in when rham’ir was initially brought to garlemald from the sea, and despite his kind and gentle nature, rham’ir hid from him for several hours after being brought back to his estate.
exhausted from the outpour of his emotions and becoming hungry, however, rham’ir would slowly be coaxed out of hiding. rham’ir’s road to recovery from his ordeal would be slow and wrought with setbacks and roadblocks, with atticus coming to learn more about miqo’te children with each passing day. atticus was a man coming into his late middle years, having no wife nor fathered any children of his own, and thus found raising a miqo’te child to be a learning experience.
over time, however, they would develop a loving bond. rham’ir would refer to atticus as ‘attie’ as opposed to father, something which struck atticus as strange, but found it more endearing as rham’ir grew older.
using his status, influence and the wealth gained from said status and influence, atticus would ensure rham’ir had access to academics, teaching him how to read, write, and even play the violin. wanting to be able to properly thank atticus for taking him in, however, rham’ir settled upon joining the military, much to atticus’s dismay. rham’ir would join the military at 16 years of age, and would undergo training as a medicus, finding that his talent to manipulate aether to outmatch his ability with a sword.

//. rham’ir’s imperial verse is basically the same as his wol/nonwol verse, except instead of being rescued off the pirate galleon by yellow jackets, it’s intercepted by an imperial fleet ship, and he’s taken back to the capital.
he’s adopted by one atticus tol corvus, and joins the military at sixteen, becoming a healer for the legion to which he’s assigned. he eventually climbs the ranks, becomes a citizen, and is known as rham’ir pyr corvus.
