“Are you coming Y/n?” – Moody walked past you, brushing his shoulder against you. Turning around, invited he you. Smiling sheepishly, grinned you from ear to ear. – “Alright…” – muttered you out, following Moody like being driven by scent of flowers. Moody smiled, turning back around. He went to a corner were half your class had gathered around. – “Brought Y/n, as well.” – pointed he out, moving his thumb over his shoulder. Josie nodded, motioning for you to make haste. Slightly confused, sat you down to where Josie was pointing. Paul and Tillie made room for you to sit down.
Moody sat two person’s beside from you. Josie started to count silently, turning around as her finger bopped up and down. – “What are we doing?” – whispered you to Tillie, confused. You had no clue what was happening. You only came because Moody invited you. You could never say no to him. If he hadn’t invited you, you probably be outside, excluded from this gathering. – “Don’t know.” – whispered Tillie back with a brief shrug of her shoulders. Feeling a bit overwhelmed hoped you, it wouldn’t turn into a disaster or something scandalous. You couldn’t have that.
Josie finally clapped her hands together. – “I think we are with enough!” – said she to herself. Taking a deep breath, plastered she a pleasant smile on her face. – “Shall we begin?” – she hummed loud at the end of her sentence, picking an empty milk bottle up. Charlie rose his hand up, sitting beside Diana. – “Uhm… what are we playing exactly?” – asked he, having the slightest of clues. You nodded alongside some others, wanting to know as well. – “Spin the bottle!” – exclaimed Josie, holding the milk bottle under her chin. – It’s very easy. Whoever the bottle lands on, must share a kiss with the one who spun the bottle.”
Ruby gasped, jumping up to her feet. – “I…I’m not doing that!” – called she out, stomping her foot on the floor. Josie rolled with her eyes, dismissing her. – “Fine! Then sit over there.” – with a wave of her hand got Ruby send away. Ruby pouted her lips in an attempt to look distressed. Pushing some heads aside, walked she out of the circle, over to the benches. There she sat with her arms crossed, moping. – “Anyone else?” – asked Josie. You looked around the circle, seeing some swallow nervously or avoid eye contact.
In a way wanted you to leave as well. This was sure not how you imagined sharing your first kiss. Who knew who you had to kiss. On the other end if the bottle landed on Moody, you might pass out. You had liked him for as long as you can remember. If it landed on him, would you be over the moon. Perhaps that first kiss wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all. If it of course landed on him. When no answer came, continued Josie. – “Who’s up first?” – spoke she up. – “Diana!” – called Charlie out loud with a grin. Diana swallowed nervously, glaring at bit at Charlie for pointing her out as first. Josie handed the bottle to Diana, sitting down beside Jane and Tillie.
Diana placed the bottle down before her, her hands shaking a bit. Should she do this? What would her mother think when she found out she was playing these sort of games. For what purpose? Entertainment? A nudge of Charlie, set her off to twist the bottle. The bottle started to spin around, holding everyone captivated. All eyes following the twirling of the bottle. Some pressing their lips painfully, others hoping it would land on them. You gasped from the nerves, seeing the bottle slow down. It was fluctuating between some people, who thought they got lucky. The bottle spun slowly further coming to a stop. You squealed loud in shock, scaring everyone.
Moody widened his eyes, looking at the tip of the bottle that was pointed to him. – “You must kiss!” – ordered Josie. Moody shook himself awake, getting up with the help of a pushy Billy. With shock in your eyes, looked you from the bottle to Moody. You didn’t want to play anymore. Moody was going to share a kiss with Diana. The girl everyone adored. Diana got up hesitantly as well. They met each other in the middle. Feeling like you could cry your eyes out, pressed you, your lips together. A wave of betrayal coming over you. It took a split second for your expression to fold. More clenched as anger rose in your eyes. You were angry at Diana for cutting a knife right through your back. That was how it felt.
Diana having sneaked up on you to deliver the final blow to your heart, hearing her laugh manically afterwards. You couldn’t watch it. You didn’t want to watch it. Pushing yourself up by Tillie’s knee, spurted you away before they shared their kiss. – “Hey!” – called Josie out, seeing you run away. Moody and Diana shared a brief kiss. Moody smiled, having never felt such a thing. Diana seemed difficult to read. Moody turned to return to his seat when he noticed an empty spot between Tillie and Paul. – “Y/n is out!” – called Josie out, informing everyone who hadn’t seen it. Moody sighed silently, finding it a bit odd that you ran out during his turn.
You ran immediately outside, sinking through your knees. A sting of pain where your heart was. Was this heartbreak? Was this how it felt like? Losing the one you love for another? It was just a kiss, but it felt more than that to you. It felt like your whole world had come crashing down with one final blow. Firm and devastating. Hitting right where it knocked you under. Sniffing loud, crawled you slowly back up to your feet. You didn’t want anyone to see you like this. You sure wouldn’t want to answer some concerned questions about yourself. Walking over to the stream, sat you down before it. Letting your fingers brush against the surface. The coldness of the water, sending a rush up your body. – “Perhaps it was never meant to be.” – whispered you to yourself, wiping your eyes dry. Closing your eyes said you mentally goodbye to your feelings for Moody. Giving them a proper burial, to never surface again. Forgotten and lost as your heart had been ripped out of your chest. It would be better to move on.
***
You groaned frustrated, crumbling the paper a bit in your hand. Moody peeked over his shoulder to you, smiling softly. He witnessed you exhale deep, leaning back in your seat. When Miss Stacy walked across, adverted he his gaze quickly down to his own papers. Once she had passed, dared he to look at you again. Now that he was older, started he getting more interested in girls. Specifically one. One that was always nice and kind to him. Someone he considered a close friend. Moody wandered around with his eyes, looking at the other girls. Each and one occupied with their assignment. He exhaled through his nose, thoughtfully looking at them. He didn’t need those other girls, not when he had his number one girl.
None of them were you. Moody turned to look at you again, catching your eye. You frowned at the sudden eye contact. Moody blushed up, smiling sheepishly at you. You turned your gaze away from him, not sure what to think of it. Moody sighed soft, lowering his head. He truly wanted to have a shot with you. Last night he laid in bed, dreaming away of you. What it would like to hold your hand. Say sweet things to you. Kiss you? He snorted at the thought, making Charlie quirk his eyebrow up. Clearing his throat, composed Moody himself, putting his attention at his papers again.
With his foot was he tapping the floor, waiting patiently for recess. There he could speak with you and try to win you over with his charming ways. Or charming ways in his eyes. He wasn’t going to let you slide without putting up a fight. When Miss Stacy finally announced recess, jumped Moody up. It made Charlie frown even more to why his friend was so excited. You got up, making your way slowly over to the coat area. Moody swiftly moved passed the others to reach the coat area at the same time as you. He came to a stop near you, moving his hand as a gesture for you to pass. He added a pleasant smile to it, hoping you would find him gallant. You smiled confusingly in return, brushing past him to get your coat.
Suppressing a victory dance, went Moody to his own coat. He made sure he was at the door before you. Slapped Paul’s hand away, opening the door. Everyone started to go through it as Moody sighed, feeling like a doorman. He sucked it up, seeing you arrive. He swayed his hand from you to outside. – “You are being awfully kind?” – said you questionable. – “Why?” – you waited near him for an answer. Moody straightened his back more, putting on a grand smile. – “Because I’m at your service.” – spoke he out, making you furrow your brows. – “Alright…” – mouthed you, stepping outside.
He was acting a bit too strange in your opinion. Not knowing truly why. Moody went after you, behind the building where almost everyone had gathered around. You stationed yourself between Ruby and Josie, near the building. Moody stood still near Jane and Diana. He got on the tips of his toes, overlooking Jane and Ruby to get a glimpse of you. Smiling, wanted he to capture all of you. He couldn’t look away as you were the only thing he thought about. Josie noticed it, looking strangely at him. – “What’s with the stare, Moody?” – pointed she out, not caring if everyone heard her. It caught everyone’s attention, yours as well. Moody smiled nervously, still looking at you.
You lowered your gaze a bit, glancing up to him once you dared to. It was clear that he was looking at you, but why? Now that you thought you had buried away all your feelings for him, came they resurfacing. – “I’m just looking at the prettiest girl.” – blurted he dreamingly out. The girls busted out in laughter, finding him funny and bold. You knew he was talking about you since he was looking at you. He smiled, assuring you it was truly you he was looking at. Stepping away from Josie, walked you away from them. Moody pushed Jane a bit aside, making his way across to you, followed by loud “ooh’s” from everyone that thought he was about to declare his love.
“Y/n!” – called Moody out, moving Paul aside to reach you. You came to a stop near the stream. – “What are you doing Moody?” – asked you, shy. – “I…Isn’t it obvious?” – asked he. You shook your head, disagreeing with him. – “I don’t know what to think Moody.” – confessed you, fumbling with the hem of your dress. – “I like you!” – blurted he out, taking a step towards you. – “A lot, Y/n. I do.” – With a silent gasp, stared you into his eyes. – “I…Moody I…” – Moody shushed you, stepping up to you. He took your hand in his, standing very close to you. It made you blush, wondering where he ever learned this. Your heart started to beat faster, almost falling out of your chest. – “I can only think about you Y/n… and… and I hope I can walk you home one day.” – asked he.
All your buried feelings for him exploded right into your face, making you squeeze Moody’s hand firmly. You almost crushed it, making him bite the pain away. – “I…I…I’ve liked you since forever.” – stated you, bringing a smile to his lips. – “But I…I buried those feelings away ever since you kissed Diana.” – continued you. You saw his smile fade away, trying to remember when he kissed Diana. It took him a moment, but he recollected the memory. Spin the bottle. It baffled Moody that you had liked him for that long. That was more then a year ago, two if not. – “I felt so heartbroken that I started to give up on you.”
“Do you still?” – asked he, making you frown. – “Do you still have given me up?” – wanted he to know. You first shrugged your shoulders, then you slowly shook your head, changing your mind. – “That kiss was nothing. I promise you Y/n, just a stupid game…” – reassured he you. You slowly let your firm grip loosen on him. – “I’d very much like to walk you home today, Y/n… if I may.” – you smiled, feeling your heart open up to him again. That long forgotten flower, blooming again. – “You may.” – responded you with a smile. Moody smiled brighter then ever, stroking your hand. You heard some teasing sounds from behind Moody when he kissed your cheek. Flustered looked you shy away. You weren’t ready to kiss Moody yet, so you hugged him. A hug that was more then enough for now.

one. when he walked you home from school.
the late june air was sticky in the avonlea schoolhouse, clinging to skin, beads of sweat gathering by brows. sunlight spilled through the windows, and even billy andrews couldn’t muster enough enthusiasm to tease anyone in this heat. pinafores too heavy for this weather, the girls gathered in one corner, pretending to read the excerpt mr phillips had picked out for today, but in honesty, you were all just complaining about the summer heat.
“i can’t wait until i have my hair up,” ruby gillis sighed, casting a longing glance across the room towards the boys. “my ribbon does suit my complexion, of course- but it’s much too hot in summer to have my hair down.”
murmurs of agreement spread throughout your little group. “i tried it one time,” whispered anne dramatically, “when marilla was away. it was rather romantic, but the pins hurt a great deal.”
sitting in between jane andrews and tillie boulter, you tried not to zone out. gaze drifting across the classroom, you caught gilbert blythe’s eye from where he was sitting with the boys, and he shot you a quick smile. you gave him a shy one back, and looked away before you could blush. you’d known gilbert forever- his family was close to yours- but something had changed recently, and you couldn’t quite put your finger on it.
mr. phillips finally dismissed the class, and in a rush of rowdiness, the boys all excused themselves from the schoolhouse, whooping and hollering about a potential skinny dip in the wild waves. in a flurry of giggles and secrets, your friends gathered their books and rushed outside (in a rather unladylike manner- but it was summer and the world was their oyster, so who cared). you knew diana was hosting a tea party over the weekend- complete with ice cream, she’d said!- but as far as you knew, there were no plans for tonight, save the beach trip the boys had talked about. trying your best to avoid the heat for as long as possible, you lingered in the coatroom, taking the time to adjust your hat into place. but you weren’t alone, and you startled as a familiar face appeared over your shoulder.
“gilbert,” you said, his name sweet on your tongue. “you’re not going to the beach with billy?”
he shook his head. “i’m not quite in the mood for that today. but i was wondering. do you want- can i- would you like some company on your walk home?”
heart in your throat, you looked at the boy you’d known your whole life. was gilbert blythe asking to walk you home? you nodded wordlessly, and his eyes immediately softened. there was a nervousness you’d never seen in him before, a cautiousness, as if he were treading on eggshells and was terrified to break them. “i- i’d love that, gilbert, thank you.” a smile slowly spread across his face, and you seemed to see him in a new light. noticing the things you hadn’t before. the softness of his dark eyes and the way they sparkled. the gentle curve of his jaw. the way he smelled like rosemary and mint soap and the blythe farm’s apple orchard, mixed with a hint of cinnamon. the way gilbert blythe was the prettiest boy you’d ever seen.
“great,” he said, finally breaking you out of your reverie. “i wouldn’t want you to get heatstroke, after all. it’d be ungentlemanly of me to let you go home without making sure you’re alright in this heat.”
your stomach erupted with butterflies, and you walked in silence with him as you left the schoolhouse. treading along the path, your footsteps settled into the same rhythm, and eventually gilbert spoke, his voice clear among the songbirds and crickets.
“how’s your family? i haven’t seen them in a fortnight.”
his tone was proper and gentlemanly, but curious and kind. you looked shyly up at him. gilbert was tall, taller than you, sturdy with broad shoulders and a grin that showed off a lopsided roguishness once in a while on his otherwise serious face. you gripped your books a little tighter, trying to focus your thoughts back to the conversation. “they’re good, thanks for asking. mother’s been wondering about you, though. she’s wanted to drop soup off for your father, but wasn’t sure if he’d appreciate it. it’s been a while since you were over, so she doesn’t know if he still likes biscuits or bone broth.”
gilbert scuffed the ground with his boot a little bit, looking down at you contemplatively. “that’s kind of her,” he said. “he’s barely been able to keep anything down, but he likes soup. i’m not sure about the biscuits, but i’d certainly like some. i wouldn’t mind some of your mother’s plum preserves either. i haven’t had much time to go into town for food lately.”
you’d noticed. there were shadows under his eyes, and he’d always been on the lanky side, but since gilbert had taken on more of the farm work you’d observed his cheeks grow more drawn. his muscles had grown, too- another result of all the wood chopping you knew he was doing- but he lacked energy, and your heart ached for the boy. cicadas chirped as you walked in unison through the path, minding the garden snakes slinking through the tall grass, and an idea sparked in your mind as you passed the field signaling close to home.
“gilbert,” you said thoughtfully, stopping in your tracks. “mother was going to make a layer cake today, with raspberry preserves and clotted cream. i’m sure it’s cooled by now. we can have a little picnic, you and i- we have lemonade at home too, that rachel lynde brought us, and father thinks it’s too tart, so he wants to get rid of it. you can bring some home for your father as well. mother wouldn’t mind, i promise- i can make us a picnic basket, and we can sit in that field.”
gilbert turned towards you, and you couldn’t quite decipher the expression on his face. “i don’t want you to pity me,” he said quietly. “much less drag your family into it.”
“no, no,” you said quickly, fearing he’d interpreted your invitation the wrong way. “just a picnic, to catch up, as friends. we haven’t talked in a while. i miss you.”
he bit his lip. you could almost see the gears turning in his head. “alright,” he said finally. “it’s almost summer, after all. i think- i think i’d like that.”
when you reached your house, your mother was more than happy to oblige, giving gilbert a big hug and fussing over how much taller he’d gotten since the last time she saw him. you cut two pieces of cake and put them on plates in the straw picnic basket along with the bottle of mrs. lynde’s infamous lemonade. your mother even let you bring the crystal glasses used for special occasions- she trusted the both of you well enough to know that you wouldn’t break them. covering up the basket with a red checkered tablecloth, you and gilbert set off again, waving goodbye to your mother and finding a spot in the field where there was a tree with enough shade to sit under. clover and goldenrod and cornstalk bloomed in the field, and the cool, sweet grass tickled the bottom of your dress. gilbert, beside you, leaned back against the tree, his broad shoulder touching yours, and spooned a large amount of cake into his mouth. it was the happiest you’d seen him in months. the thin layer of ruby jelly in between the vanilla layers coloured the cupid’s bow of your lips, and gilbert realized in that moment that he wanted very badly to take you into his arms and kiss you. but the moment was fleeting, and gilbert was left with the idea of love lingering on his mind.
that was the first time gilbert blythe realized he was falling for you.
two. when you showed up on his doorstep in the rain.
rain poured outside, streaking the windows and trickling down the roofs of avonlea’s houses. sorrow hung in the air, and black clothing had dominated the church the day prior. it was not often that avonlea had funerals, and when they were, they were a somber affair, impacting every one of its citizens. especially now. it seemed as though the whole world had watched mr. blythe’s casket descend into the soil, and now the rain was fertilizing it. perhaps flowers would bloom on top of his grave. the entirety of the little town hoped so- anything to bring comfort to the blythe’s only son.
you’d seen gilbert at the funeral, features etched with sorrow, tears brimming at the corners of his eyes. but he’d looked resigned as well- putting on a strong face for those who could not. ruby had sobbed hysterically, as had rachel lynde, and even marilla cuthbert had shed a tear. normally, you would have talked to gilbert. you’d been over the day before mr. blythe had died, bringing with you a sweater you and your mother had knit together to help keep him warm. you’d known his health was declining, but it was even more heart wrenching seeing gilbert that way- expression unmoving, body stiff as he accepted the gift. you’d only had a moment with him before mr. blythe erupted into coughs again- a second in which gilbert’s mask slipped and you truly saw the fear plaguing his mind. you’d wished you could have said something to make it all better. but you hadn’t. you couldn’t.
and now you were on his porch, clutching a package of baking soda biscuits and a small posy of forget-me-nots in your hands. you were shivering from the cold rain, and you’d gotten soaked on the way over, but it was worth it. there seemed to be barely any movement in the gray house- you couldn’t spot any candles lit inside from the windows- and you were wondering if gilbert was even here when all of a sudden the door swung open and he appeared.
his expression was unreadable, brown eyes deep with emotion and seeded in sadness. “hi,” he said. “gil,” you breathed back.
after a moment of silence, the words came back to you. “these are for you,” you said, reaching out. your hands were shaking, and whether they were from nerves or the cold, gilbert couldn’t tell. he took the flowers and the parcel from your outstretched hands, almost unsure what to do with them. “they’re biscuits,” you said, mouth dry, trying to fill the quiet. “mother’s baking soda ones. you mentioned you liked them one time, and we were out of plum preserves, but i-”
“thank you,” gilbert said, and although it sounded slightly robotic, his words felt genuine. you looked at your shoes, unsure of what to say next. your parents had always taught you to say “i’m sorry for your loss” to someone grieving, but the phrase felt too unfamiliar. “i- i’ll leave you to it, then,” you stuttered, backing away from the door and turning to go. you didn’t want to intrude- even if he was your friend. because that’s what you were, right? friends. friends visited during difficult times. friends didn’t want to hug all the sadness out of him. but gilbert’s voice cracked when he spoke next, and you turned around.
“no,” he said clumsily. the words are rushed and jumbled from his mouth, and he stumbles over the next ones too. “please. you’re freezing, and soaking wet. come in.”
up until then, you’d hoped you didn’t look that bad. your straw hat had managed to protect the top of your head, but the rest of your hair was stringy and dripping over your shoulders. your cheeks were also flushed, and even in what should have been a moment focused on his own grief, gilbert found himself worrying that you’d catch pneumonia in this weather. he hadn’t expected anyone to visit today, especially not in a rainstorm.
seeing the concern in his eyes, you realized that walking all the way home in a thunderstorm was probably not such a good idea, so you stepped in cautiously per gilbert’s invitation. the house was warm, but everything seemed dim and gray. the door you knew led to mr. blythe’s bedroom was closed, and you could see gilbert’s eyes darting towards it as well, as if he were praying you wouldn’t say anything. gilbert set down the parcel of biscuits on the kitchen table and looked around for something.
“do you have a vase?” you asked quietly. “i can fill it up with water for you. i thought the forget-me-nots would bring a little light.”
gilbert nodded, but sucked in a breath. you turned to him with a questioning look. “the vase,” he said, voice dry. “it’s in his room. mrs. lynde brought some peonies over while he was still sick, and i didn’t take them out. he’s always hated peonies- he thinks they’re too big and bold. but he would’ve loved these.”
you lightly touched the small forget me not bouquet, felt the soft petals under your fingertips. “you don’t have to use a vase,” you replied softly. “a mug will do.” gilbert stood motionless in the middle of the kitchen, and you maneuvered around him, carefully filling up the pottery with water and placing the flowers in it.
he seemed rooted to the floor, even when he focused his gaze on the posy. your glance met his, and the sorrow was evident. gilbert hadn’t cried at the funeral- you’d never seen him cry. but now tears were brimming at the corners of his soft chocolate eyes, threatening to spill over, and in a moment your body overtook your mind and you had wrapped your arms around gilbert in a hug.
for a moment you regretted it. but then he was hugging you back, clutching your arms, holding onto you as if you were his lifeline. and in a way, you were. you could feel his hot breath on the back of your neck, hear his muffled cries. due to his height, your face was nestled in the crook of gilbert’s neck, and the two of you stayed like that, intertwined, for several long moments.
when gilbert finally pulled away, he knew that for better or for worse, you would be there for him until the day he died.
three. when you exchanged christmas presents in the snow.
to be honest, you hadn’t expected gilbert to come back from the steamer, or trinidad. you’d kept in close correspondence with him, saving the letters he sent you in a special drawer in your writing desk. you memorized his handwriting- the candid tone recalling his tales- the stamps on the envelope. but it still came as a surprise when he’d arrived back.
everything had been awkward at the start, but as soon as gilbert told you all the tales of his travels, you’d slowly slipped back into your old dynamic. there was still a line the both of you were toeing, trying to test out the boundaries between platonic and whatever the two of you were. when you’d met bash, he’d given you a quick wink and told you he’d heard all about you, but other than that, you were positive gilbert just wanted to stay friends. “he can’t love me,” you’d told the avonlea girls a few days prior. “the letters didn’t mean anything, he was just lonely.” but all of them agreed, even ruby- who had been zoning in on moody spurgeon ever since gilbert had left- that there was something more in his words, that it wasn’t all in your head.
and now it was christmas. gilbert, bash, and the shirley-cuthberts had all come for dinner (you’d grown close to anne the past year, and it had taken some convincing but since your father knew matthew so well, marilla had deemed it acceptable). the dinner had been lovely- your mother had brought out all the stops for gilbert and bash- roast goose, scalloped potatoes (island ones, of course), cranberry jelly, chicken pie, spiced gingerbread. flames crackled in the fireplace, biting gusts of wind rattled the windows, and blurred glittery ornaments adorned the pine tree in the center of your living room. dinner was over now, and the adults were gathered around the table and swapping stories of old. anne was there too, heavily engaged in a discussion with bash, but the social aspect was getting to be somewhat exhausting, so you quietly slipped out the back door to have a few moments alone.
in a rather unladylike fashion, you got up and sat on the fence by your house, snowflakes tickling your nose, watching the sun slowly begin to set. hues of pink and orange tinged the sky, and you were surprised you could even see it right now- the weather suggested a cloudy sky. the sound of snow crunching came from behind you, and to your surprise, gilbert was coming towards you. he had his brown cap and his red flannel on, and he looked so cozy that you somehow wished you were cuddled up in his arms. pushing the thought away, you greeted him as he came to sit on the fence beside you.
“enjoying the night so far?”
“quite,” gilbert replied. there was a sparkle in his eyes that danced, one that had been noticeably absent since his father died. you suspected it had something to do with bash’s uncle-like presence, and maybe anne’s too- it was well rumored that he’d fancied her for a while when they’d first met. gilbert looked off into the sunset, puffs of his breath materializing in the cold air, and you shivered involuntarily. he offered you his wool mittens wordlessly, and you gratefully put them on, although they were too big for you.
“oh,” you said, remembering something. he turned towards you, watching you intently as you pulled out a small package from your coat pocket. it was wrapped in festive paper, and you’d written his name on it in swooping calligraphy.
“for me?” gilbert asked. he carefully unfurled the wrapping paper to reveal a small leather bound book embossed with “the complete illustrated medical dictionary (pocket edition)” on the front. “i’ve had it since you left,” you said, breath catching in your throat. “i kept it for you. all this time.”
genuine joy shone in gilbert’s eyes. he flipped through the pages delightedly, marveling at the drawings inside. “thank you,” he grinned. “i actually have something for you too.”
breathlessly, you awaited your gift, snowflakes fluttering down and landing on you. they decorated your hair and its festive ribbon for one fleeting moment before melting, and you swore there was nothing as beautiful as this moment, exchanging gifts with gilbert in the snow, watching the sunset sweep across the dove-gray sky. finally, gilbert found what he was looking for in his pocket, and produced a tiny box.
“it doesn’t look like much,” he warned, “but i found it on my travels. i was waiting to give it to you. i wanted it to be the perfect moment.”
carefully opening the small box, you gasped as the lid revealed a necklace with a pendant. a small silver locket shaped like a heart, the kind one could put a photograph in. “gilbert,” you breathed. “this is- this is beautiful.”
and it was. the locket lay on a delicate chain, and it was engraved intricately, with elaborate designs. your mittened hands fumbled to take it out of the box and inspect it more, but gilbert took it from you with a small smile. “let me help you,” he murmured, and made to fasten it on you. you stood still, hyper aware of how close gilbert’s hands were to your face. his fingers brushed against the back of your neck, securing the necklace, and you caught yourself from flinching. you didn’t know what to say, except for thank you, so you repeated yourself again.
“a thing of beauty is a joy forever,” gilbert quoted, somewhat uncharacteristically. “keats,” he added after a moment, referencing the poet he’d read the phrase from. “i wanted you to have something to remember me by.”
“to remember you by?” you laughed. “what, are you going on the steamer again?”
he could tell the thought sobered you, so he shook his head, shrugging. “no. i just think…you’re a wonderful girl. the loveliest in avonlea.”
“i think you’re wonderful too,” you said shyly, which was about as many words as you could manage right now. the loveliest girl in avonlea? goodness.
the sun had almost set by now, and the sky was turning dark- a good cover for hiding the red tint spreading across your face. “we should go back inside,” you said hurriedly, and the two of you made your way over to the door. you stopped before opening it, basking in the glow of the oil lamp on the porch.
“gilbert, i-”
overcome by sudden anxiety, you handed back his warm mittens. “thank you,” you said, the words lingering on your tongue. “for everything.”
quickly, so fast you almost missed it, gilbert leaned down, brushed a stray wisp of hair away, and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “merry christmas,” he said simply. and then, the two of you went back inside, as if nothing had happened at all.
as soon as you entered, bash noticed the locket and smirked. gilbert shot him a warning look, lest he say anything. the two of you immersed yourself in separate conversations- you with anne, him with marilla and your mother, while matthew silently observed your father and bash discuss politics. but you kept stealing glances at each other as if you were speaking a secret language that only the two of you knew, and each time it filled you with comfort.
it was a cold christmas, but you felt the warmest you had been in a while– and, as luck would have it, so did gilbert.
four. when you climbed a tree.
and so summer rolled around again, fading into august. university loomed on the horizon. childhood was over- gone were the days of butterflies, bumblebees, and scraped knees. yet you could pretend, and so you did.
the soft salt breeze tickled your face, sending a pleasant feeling down your spine. you were with gilbert- on his farm, in the orchard. it was just the two of you- most of avonlea were in charlottetown for the island county fair, granting you the opportunity to do whatever you wanted, since no one was around to see.
so you took advantage of that. no more were the stolen glances, the sneaking around, your only physical touch with gilbert being brushed hands- and even then you’d both deemed it risky. neither of you wanted word to get around yet. sure, there had been rumors and some of your best friends knew (only the ones you were sure wouldn’t spread anything around). but here, now, the world was your oyster. and the two of you soaked it up blissfully.
you were lying on the grass with your head in gilbert’s lap, weaving a flower crown as he read a book- an old poetry collection ms stacy had lent him. the clouds were glorious fluffy shapes in the blue sky, and you pointed them out to gilbert every once in a while. your fingers deftly twined the daisies and their stems, finally tying them all together in a knot, creating a perfect circlet, and setting it teasingly on gilbert’s dark hair.
he smirked, leaving it on. “made it for me?”
“a pretty crown for a pretty boy,” you replied, smiling from your position in his lap. he was solid, sturdy, his hand resting securely on your waist. you felt safe with your body close to his, arms and legs intertwined. and he was pretty- “the prettiest boy in avonlea,” you said, mimicking his words to you from last christmas. he laughed and set the book down, taking the flower crown off and resting it gently on your hair. “it suits you,” gilbert said softly, and he was right.
the two of you stayed like that for a while, absorbing each other’s presence. you charted the rare freckles scattered across the bridge of his nose as if they were constellations, tracing them with the tip of your finger. it tickled him, and he smiled down at you. he finally returned to his book- “i want to read you something”- and blissfully, you obliged, settling down to listen.
“i almost wish we were butterflies and lived but three summer days- three such days with you i could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain,” gilbert read from the poetry collection in his lap, a break from the constant medical anatomy books he was usually seen carrying around. you recognized the fragment of poetry- “keats,” you said, “just like what you said to me last winter. when you gave me the necklace.”
a smile tugged at gilbert’s lips, and you pulled out the locket from under the neckline of your dress to show him. “i’ll never take it off,” you promised him, right then and there. “it’s like a little piece of you with me, all the time.”
“you better not,” he teased. “cost me a fortune, that one. even more than all of those romance books i’m always secretly buying you in town.”
you sat up and shoved him jokingly, tousling his dark curls to purposely peeve him. gilbert’s hair wasn’t tidy all that often, but he’d let it slip once that he always tried to make it look nice for you. struck by a sudden flash of inspiration, you jumped up. “let’s go pick some apples.”
the blythe orchard was infamous for their strawberry apples, the only place in avonlea where they were available. contrary to popular belief, this was simply a variant of apple, and not a strawberry hybrid. all too happy to appease you, gilbert took your hand and led you to the best tree on the land. most of the other boughs were still blooming with apple blossoms, but this tree was different.
he pointed to a low-hanging branch, one blessed with red fruit. “my father always picked the first apple on this tree in august,” he told you, tone contemplative and wistful. “he said this was the tree he kissed my mother under for the first time. he thought if the first apple of the season was picked here, at this tree, it brought the harvest luck.”
nostalgia flickered in gilbert’s eyes, and you knew he was missing his father more than usual. “let’s do it, then,” you said, finding your voice, fingers delicately intertwined with his- giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “we’ll each pick one. in honor of him. a new tradition.”
the words you’d spoken may have been simplistic, but to gilbert they meant the world. without his father, it had been so incredibly difficult at first to do anything- carry on old traditions, much less creating new ones. but here you were, by his side, looking up at him with adoring eyes, and giving him the opportunity to heal and grow. gilbert knew he could never put into words how much it truly meant to him.
you let him go first, watching him scamper up the tree like a squirrel. he seemed a boy again, plucking an apple from the highest bough and descending nimbly. when you started climbing, you found your footing easily, but doubt wracked your mind- imagine the horrors if mrs. lynde and her posse heard about this, climbing trees like a chimpanzee! - and so you opted for a lower branch, reaching it deftly. you reached for an apple and held it high victoriously. some hint of pride shone in gilbert’s eyes.
“to making new traditions,” he said- a toast with the notable absence of glasses brimming with champagne. “to making new traditions,” you repeated, and in that moment, you in the tree and him on the ground, you swore you could see hints of a future- one with new traditions and old traditions, little feet running around and everything in between. today was flawless.
and it would’ve been perfect, except for the sound of the branch cracking under your weight. you weren’t too high up in the tree, but inevitably, you landed on the ground, a crumpled heap of petticoats and ribbons, crying out softly upon impact.
you’d never seen gilbert this way, in ‘doctor mode’, simply put. he was immediately beside you, voice laced with concern, checking you over for scrapes and bruises. you were fine, mostly- just a little shaken up and scared, save for the red-hot throbbing in your wrist. the pain didn’t exactly warrant crying, but you weren’t used to the funny feeling, and tears welled in your waterline anyways. gilbert, telling you to take deep breaths, helped you sit up.
he’d noticed straightaway the way you held you wrist, cradling it slightly away from your body, and murmuring words of comfort, he started prodding your knuckles, gently examining the swollen area. you winced, but it wasn’t too bad. “i don’t think it’s broken,” gilbert said finally, deeming it a sprain after careful inspection. “but let’s get you back home. i have some bandages- i’ll wrap it just in case.”
tears threatened to spill over again as the two of you walked from the orchard to his home. gilbert noticed, and stopped. “hey,” he said softly. “it’s okay. i’ll make you some herbal tea. that should help with the pain a bit.”
“it’s not that,” you made out, a small pout forming on your lips. “we were having such a wonderful day, gil, and i ruined it all. i’m sorry.”
“whoa, whoa, whoa,” he said, his brow furrowing. “you didn’t ruin anything. you got hurt, it happens. and we have the rest of the afternoon to be together- i’ll tell you what, how about once we get back to the farmhouse, we’ll make the most of it, okay? we can still have some fun.”
a wobbly smile formed on your lips, and you nodded. gilbert cupped your face gently, and looked into your eyes. “i love you,” he said, voice nervous but firm. “just let me take care of you.”
your heart caught in your throat. he’d never said that before. contrary to the rumors, he hadn’t even kissed you properly yet. “i love you too,” you whispered, voice hoarse. and before you could think about it too much, you went up on your tiptoes and pressed a small kiss to gilbert’s lips.
they were soft and sweet and filled with promise and hope, and he leaned into it, your bodies closer than they’d ever been. his hands ghosted the small of your back, your hips, your shoulders, and it felt like home. when you finally pulled apart, there was a twinkle in his eye you’d never seen before. a twinkle of something called joy.
when you got back to the farmhouse, he finally settled you on the couch, comfortably sipping a cup of tea and trying wholeheartedly to braid your hair. he’d always wanted to learn, and since you were currently unable to do it yourself, he deemed it the perfect opportunity. it made you laugh- his fingers, usually nimble and clever, were clumsy in your locks, and the braid you ended up with was slightly sloppy, but filled with adoration. a realization fluttered through your mind, and set its claws into your future. you loved gilbert- gilbert loved you- and though you wouldn’t say it out loud, at least not for several years, he would make a wonderful husband.
five. when you said “i do”.
the spring skies were blue today- flowers were blooming- grass was green. “a lovely day for a wedding,” mrs. lynde had told marilla that morning, and all of avonlea agreed.
you were walking down the aisle in a few minutes, getting ready in reverence. a delicate white veil lay on your hair, the one passed down through your family for almost a century. the lace dress fit you perfectly, intricate embroidery accentuating your waist. your mother’s simple pearl earrings adorned your ears, glowing in the morning light. in your hands were a bouquet- a single spray of forget-me-nots, periwinkle blue, an ode to gilbert’s father, who had loved them so. and at the same time, a tribute to your past together, that awful rainy day after the funeral filled with grief and tears and emotion, yet what had brought you closer together. something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. all was well. you were ready.
the springtime realm of gilbert’s yard was immersed in devotion. petals decorated the grass down the aisle. your dearest friends and family observed, and the wedding itself passed in the blink of an eye. there was not a dry eye during the vows, and gilbert’s words were even more poetic than you had ever hoped. he promised to love you- to care for you- in sickness and in health, to be your rock. it was not the fanciest wedding- there were no messes of tulle and satin and roses- but it was yours, and you couldn’t be happier.
you were husband and wife. the dawn had come anew. and that night, when gilbert fell asleep watching you breathe, finding solace in the rise and fall of your chest, he knew without a doubt that he would do it all over again.

Yandere Gilbert Blythe x reader
I only write sfw, feel free to make requests. Forced relationship. Kinda Yan if you squinting idk.
"Gilbert Blythe." You could taste the sourness of his name on your tongue as you spit it out.
"Y/N L/N." He mocked. His usual smirk plastered his face.
He was one of the top kids in your class at school and one of the most popular boys. Your friends, Ruby and Anne, were obsessed with him. Ruby was more open about it than Anne, but Anne's feelings were obvious.
If it weren't for them you might have caught something for him too. Of course it'd be difficult to feel anything but guilt if you were to. That doesn't mean you avoided him though. You often talked and joked with him. You weren't best buds but you weren't strangers(it'd be next to impossible to be in a town like Avonlea).
Besides, you were sure your parents would find a partner for you. Your parents have always wanted you to focus on your studies so they had always reassured you that they'd handle your marriage. You didn't mind it that much. You don't think they'll choose someone small minded, or far away, and you know they wouldn't choose someone who'd interfere with you going to college and living your life the way you want to.
But this bothered you. This made your stomach turn.
There he was. Standing on your front porch, with a bouquet of random flowers.
"Oh, Y/N, let the boy in!" Your mother chattered. She pushed you to the side and opened the door wider for him. "Welcome, Gilbert." She chirped.
"Thank you, Mrs. L/N." Gilbert stepped inside of your home. He removed his coat and hat and started towards you. "These are for you, Y/N." He handed you the flowers. You could see your mother's glare from behind Gilbert's curly head, urging you to be polite.
"Thank you, Gilbert." You accepted the flowers and moved to the kitchen to find something to put them in, rolling your eyes when you turn away from him.
When you came back your mother, father, older brother, and Gilbert were all sitting in the foyer.
"Y/N, stop standing around." Your mother smiled slyly. "Have a seat next to Gilbert." You looked over to the seat next to Gilbert. There were open seats next to both your mother, and brother. She was clearly up to something.
Of course it'd be rude to not take the seat after being told to do so, so you sat down next to him.
As you were fixing your dress to free it of small wrinkles in the skirt your father cleared his throat.
"Ahem, uh-" he awkwardly sat up. "We have something to tell you." He had a weird but proud smile on his face as he looked at your mother, brother, and then finally, you. His hand gestures over to Gilbert. "Would you like to tell her, Gilbert?" He asked.
Gilbert's face became flushed. He laughed shyly. He looked down at his hands in his lap then turned to you.
"Well, Y/N." He grabbed your hands, his thumb rubbing the back of your right hand gently. "Recently, I had asked your parents for your hand in marriage."
Gilbert was looking in your eyes but yours had gone blank. You were puzzled. Perplexed. You knew your parents were looking for someone, and you knew Gilbert would get an automatic yes from them, but why was Gilbert asking you? Why not Ruby? Or Anne? Or literally anyone else. You couldn't marry him. That'd only be a betrayal against your friends. You had only thought that your mother invited him so he might consider you, but you didn't imagine he would.
You realized you had been silent for too long when Gilbert was waving his hand in front of your face. Before you could properly think you blurted out;
"No!" Slapping his hand out of your face. Gilbert pulled his hand to his chest. You hadnt hurt him but it was a surprise. You turn to your mother. "You didn't tell him I would marry him, did you?"
Your mother was shocked, mouth agape and all.
"Well, of course we did." Your father said, still wide eyed from your reaction.
You could see your brother trying to hold back his laughter.
"Oh bite your tongue." Your mother spouted at him.
Without saying anything, you rose from your seat and began walking up to your room. Closing the door behind you, and falling to the ground.
You can hear your family in the living room.
"She's just being dramatic, Gilbert." You heard your brother reassure him.
"We're terribly sorry Gilbert." Your mother continued after.
"It's no problem." Gilbert said. "We can try again another day."
"Yes, I'm sure she'll come around." Your dad chimed in.
Clearly, they had not gotten the hint that you were unhappy with this situation. Each of them took turns throughout the night knocking on your door and trying to get even an ounce of a reaction. Each try was futile.
The next day you remained silent. You didn't even eat breakfast. You just walked past your family and out the door.
When you got to school the message board was surrounded. Diana ran to you as you got to the door.
"Hello, Diana." You said, exasperatedly.
"Y/N. What's this about? Are you really marrying Gilbert?" She said. She seemed more concerned than upset. She'd support you no matter what but that doesn't mean she could hold back Ruby or Anne from reacting poorly. Luckily they hadn't gotten to school yet.
"What?" You dropped your books and ran to the message board.
After pushing past a group of people you reached the board. There it was. The only note on the board.
"Gilbert and Y/N are engaged to be married."
You were fuming! You knew exactly who did this. You tore the note from the board and pushed back out of the group of people as you stormed inside.
"I'm not marrying you!" You threw the crumpled up note at the back of Gilbert's head. The class members inside turned and watched.
Gilbert's hands shot up in defense as he turned to face you.
"Who said I wrote the note?" He smirked. Your face turned red with fury.
"You are so smug and inconsiderate!" You scoffed.
"And you're beautiful when you're angry." Gilbert nodded at you teasingly.
You couldn't even think of a response besides storming away. The rest of class you could feel Gilbert's eyes shooting at you, along with every other girls, besides Rubys, who still had zero idea of the event that occurred before she got to school.
You were thankful that everyone, including Billy and Josie Pye, were quiet about the incident during lunch. You were also thankful to have a peaceful, Gilbert free lunch in the girls corner.
But of course your peace could not last forever.
You had hoped to stick close to Diana and Anne on their walks home but the second Gilbert came up it was like they handed you to him on a silver platter. Anne letting him take you was the most confusing part.
Gilbert made it painfully obvious that he wanted you to hook arms with him as you walked, making a small triangle that stuck out of his side with his arm. Of course you ignored it and stormed ahead.
"Would you slow down?" Gilbert piped, chasing after you like a lost puppy.
"Why should I? You've got long legs. You should certainly be able to keep up." You tried to pick up your pace but honestly it was getting tiring and you could feel your own breath getting ragged.
Gilbert's hand reached up and caught yours, clasping his fingers around yours, stopping you in your tracks.
"Because chasing you makes me seem like some kind of monster and walking together is far more enjoyable." He pulled your hand up and kissed your knuckles.
"Perhaps it's enjoyable for you, Mr. Blythe, but currently, I do see you as a monster." You pulled your hand from his face but did not break free from the hand hold.
"And what makes me a monster?" He began walking again, at a very slow pace as you followed alongside him.
"This whole marriage business for one;" You began. "I didn't think you were the type to force a girl to marry you, Mr. Blythe."
"Would you have said yes if I had asked?" He was nervous for your answer. His jaw clenched and his left brow quirked up.
"No, but I am not saying yes now either." Gilbert looked a little disappointed but shook it off before you could notice. "I think I've made it clear that I don't wish to marry you, Mr. Blythe."
"You know when we get married you won't be able to call me Mr. Blythe anymore, right?" He teased, trying to change the topic. You just gave him a sour look and no reply. Gilbert cleared his throat then tried again. "I was thinking we could have the ceremony in spring. Would you like that?"
"Hypothetically, I'd prefer an early fall wedding." You replied, half heartedly.
"Then that's what we'll have. A nice, fall wedding." Gilbert gently squeezed your hand and stepped closer.
As the weeks passed you slowly noticed changes in your friends, especially Ruby. Her already dwindling gaze towards Gilbert had shifted in full throttle towards Moody and she repeatedly made small hints at giving you her blessing with the engagement. You tried to tell her that there was nothing between you and Gilbert but she just kept giving you little thumbs up as you would leave with him each day.
Anne also began acting strangely. Despite your persistent denial she insisted that she supported you.
It was like all of Avonlea was on Gilbert's side; rooting for him; rooting against you.
Sure, the guilt would be gone now, seeing as your friends no longer hold feelings for him, but now there was a whole new reason.
You didn't have a choice. You couldn't oppose the marriage and you couldn't consent. Gilbert was nice but he wasn't nice enough to break off the engagement.
After a while of begging you got an idea. It was a horrible and inconvenient idea. Even the thought of it made you feel like a vixen. But it had to be done. The engagement had been finalized and this was the only way to break it off.
Your plan wasn't that hard to come up with either. Tell the girls you have feelings for one of the other boys, don't say who, and ruin your own reputation. If you were known to be someone who wishes to be with other while already "taken" then there would be no reason to continue with the marriage.
Then, during college, once everything blows over and you're free again, you can find someone you truly love.
When lunch came around you made your grand confession and all of the girls looked at you as if you had just told them the most shocking news ever. By the end of the day most of the girls had told their parents, friends, siblings, etc.
By the time word had gotten back to Gilbert he was bewildered and, though he would hate to admit it, angry.
You felt proud walking out of your house the next morning after having been chewed out by your whole family.
"Now it'll be impossible to find a good Avonlea boy for you."
"You really screwed that one up."
"Why won't you just accept Gilbert?"
If gossip was good somewhere, it was Avonlea.
You felt proud, that is, until you made it down the steps of your porch, seeing Gilbert smelling the flowers that lined the railing. When we noticed you he stood up and snaked his arm around yours.
"Good morning dear." He's greeted as he started walking.
"Good morning Mr. Blythe." Why was he here. He should be at school for his morning classes or anywhere but in front of your home.
"Gilbert." He said. "It's been a while since you called me Gilbert."
You rolled your eyes at that, although you were still quite nervous.
"Gilbert, why are you here so early?" You asked.
"I have no plans of canceling the engagement." This stopped you in your tracks, stopping Gilbert along with you.
"Why not?"
"I know you made it up." His free hand went to your face, cupping your cheek. "I love you Y/N. I don't care how many people tell me to cancel it. I need you."
This wouldve been a sweet confession if it all hadn't been forced upon you. Instead, it felt like you had only dug yourself further into the ground. Of course Gilbert would know you lied, he's the smartest in the class, and of course he wouldn't care what others thought of you, that's how he is.
You felt stupid.
Stupid and trapped.

Jealousy
Tumblr media
Gilbert Blythe x fem!Reader
The sun dipped below the rolling hills of Avonlea, casting an amber glow across the landscape. Gilbert Blythe, with his characteristic disheveled hair and thoughtful gaze, strolled through the orchard, a place that had witnessed the blossoming of friendships and the unveiling of tangled emotions.
Avonlea was abuzz with preparations for the upcoming fair, a festivity Y/n L/n held dear in her heart. As Gilbert walked past the vibrant stalls and fluttering banners, he couldn't help but notice the vivacity in Y/n's step, her eyes sparkling with an enthusiasm that painted the world in hues of her imagination.
Yet, beneath Gilbert's calm exterior, a storm brewed. A quiet jealousy, like an unexpected visitor, had taken residence in his heart. It wasn't the kind born out of malice but rather a realization of the changing dynamics between them.
Yln, oblivious to the tempest within Gilbert, happily chatted with Cole and Diana, her laughter weaving into the summer breeze. As Gilbert observed from a distance, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was standing on the periphery of her universe.
His heart, usually steady as the Avonlea river, now raced with an unfamiliar cadence. Why did he feel this way? Gilbert grappled with the turmoil, his fingers absentmindedly tracing the edge of the fair's prize ribbon he held.
Later that day, under the canopy of stars, Gilbert found himself by the bridge, a place where moments unfolded like chapters in a story. The rhythmic sound of cicadas filled the air as Y/n approached, her gaze alighting upon Gilbert's contemplative silhouette.
"Hey, Gil. Are you alright?" Y/n inquired, a glimmer of concern in her eyes.
The words struggled to find their way out of Gilbert's mouth, but the truth, as elusive as it was, demanded expression. "Y/n, do you ever feel like things are changing, and you're not sure where you fit in anymore?"
Y/ns brow furrowed, a reflection of her confusion. "Change is a constant, Gilbert. But you'll always have a place in my heart. In my world." With the last sentence that left her mouth, her eyes softened, feeling sadness for the boy standing by her.
His heart, still entangled with vines of uncertainty, yearned for more. With a breath held in the quiet night, Gilbert spoke the words that fluttered within. "Y/n, it's not just about the changing world. It's about me, about us. It's about what we could possibly be. I can't stand on the sidelines anymore, y/n. I want to be more than a distant star in your sky."
It was a balm to Gilbert's restless heart, and yet, a lingering question remained unspoken. As they stood on the bridge, the moon casting its silver glow upon the water, the bond between them seemed to shimmer with an understanding beyond words.
Y/n's eyes widened, finally realizing the gravity of his confession. "Gilbert..."
Before she could say more, he took a step closer, his hand cupping her cheek. "I can't hold back any longer," he admitted, and in the soft glow of moonlight, he kissed her.
Their lips met, a silent promise of untold emotions and uncharted paths. The orchard witnessed the quiet culmination of a friendship blossoming into something more, as the stars overhead continued their timeless dance. In that stolen moment, Gilbert and Y/n discovered a new chapter in the story of Avonlea—a chapter written with ink that glistened with unspoken feelings.

i think what upsets me the most about the sudden cancellation of awae isn’t necessarily the fact that anne and gilbert finally got together after pining and longing for each other for aggesss, but rather the fact that anne, at last, seemed to find somewhere she belonged and we don’t even get to see it. i think she would thrive in college and it’s like the perfect place for her - and she’s with all of her friends! what could be better. her and josie set their differences aside for the most part, and she gets to hang out with her girls in a shared dorm and read and be at the top of class and grow independent!!! i just want to see her live a better life. i miss this show so much. i might read the books but i can’t handle the extra depressing facts that are included in them. we’ll see.

Description — you and Gilbert are dating, but he asks you to run away with him after finding out that you are to be married to a middle aged man
Warnings — age gap mentioned, bad writing, if there’s anything let me know!
Fandom — Anne with an E
A/n— sorry it’s short, I haven’t written for awae in a while so I may be a little scratchy but I hope you enjoy!
You ran up the stairs towards your room, you just heard the news that your father has arranged you a marriage with a middle aged man in Charlottetown. To you this was horrible news.
You were walking towards Gilbert’s house, you stood on the porch for a second before knocking. When you did Bash answered the door
“Y/n! what brings you by?”
You wipe your cheeks, rubbing your hands together before speaking
“Hi, may I see Gilbert?” You asked, bash looked at you before nodding.
“Of course, want to come in or-“

thank heavens for the rain || gilbert blythe x reader
how gilbert blythe would react to you wearing his clothes
this was meant to be another one of those headcannon thingies, but i got carried away and it turned into a one-shot.. oops
— let's say it’s been a rainy week
— like really really rainy
— it has been pouring every night for the past few days
— not that you were complaining, you love the rain
— this morning you woke up to the after smell of another rainy night
— your front yard looked like something out of a fairytale
— you couldn’t resist, so ofc you went to play outside
— originally you planned to stay nearby your house incase it started raining again
— but you got distracted and ended up wandering around
— you made your way to the woods, past the ruins of the story club (w.r.i.t.), then you found yourself in the all too familiar orchard of your one and only
— you should’ve gone home hours ago, seeing as the clouds were no longer letting the sun through
— but you were just so engrossed in the beauty of nature that you didn’t notice the painfully obvious warnings
— then you felt a cold wet drop of water on your arm while you were spinning in place
— uh oh
— you looked up, holding your hand out to feel the rain
— the sound of the raindrops got louder, faster, and stronger
— you giggled to yourself before BOLTING towards the house you’ve been in hundreds of times before
— meanwhile inside the house, gilbert was just about to start making himself some oatmeal when he heard frantic knocking
— he was confused as to why someone was knocking on his door with this weather
— despite being confused, he went to see who it was, and to his surprise, you were standing on his porch, soaking wet, but smiling nonetheless
— “oh my god, y/n!” he exclaimed, a smile sprouting on his face when you started giggling again
— you looked beautiful, raindrops trickling down your skin, wet hair framing your face, while your arms hugged yourself as you shivered lightly
— he just wanted to scoop you up in his arms and hide you from the rest of the world for all eternity
— “hi! i um— i got wet.” you sheepishly explained, smiling down at your boots
— “i can see that.” he chuckled as you looked at him with bright eyes expectantly
— he sighed, but not the annoyed kind, “come in— but take your boots off!”
— you made your way inside his house, sighing at the familiar scent of his home
— “let's get you some dry clothes, yeah?”
— he led you up to his bedroom with a hand on your back, slightly cringing at the cold. how were you still smiling?
— he gave you a towel and a some of his own clothes, then went downstairs to give you time to change and to make you both some tea
— when you were all done, you looked at yourself in the mirror and sighed happily
— his clothes were way bigger on you, and his sleeves went past your wrist and showed only your fingertips
— you gave yourself a little spin, bringing his shirt to your nose and closing your eyes at the comforting scent of your beloved
— you went downstairs once you were done, and saw gilbert setting up the table
— “hi sweetheart, you want– some– tea..?” he trailed off as he turned around to look at you
— holy. fucking. shit.
— he never thought seeing you in his clothes would have such a big impact on him
— but now he never wants you to take them off
— thank heavens for the rain
— “hi, gil! this looks so good!” it was just oatmeal, but he made it, so..
— HE COULD NOT STOP STARING AT YOU OMFG
— “yeah! yeah, i-i made some– for- for um–”
— bless him
— you two ate your oatmeal as he listened to you ramble about your little adventure today
— he kept having to snap himself out of it bc ughhhh why did you have to look so beautiful???
— you in his clothes just seemed so.. right
— after you finished your food the both of you ended up in the parlor
— you were tucked to his side, hand on his chest with his arm around you, rubbing up and down your upper arm as you snuggled further into his body
— he chuckled at your movements and pulled the blanket further up your bodies
— he kissed your head, letting his lips linger on your hair for a little longer than usual
— you two spent your afternoon in each other’s embrace, while gilbert read to you your favorite book
— in that moment he decided that this was the life he wanted. a life with you is what he wanted.

“Blissful” Marriage - yandere!Billy Andrews x fem!reader
summary: your husband Billy has a surprise for your fifth wedding anniversary, but it’s not what you might think
warnings: arranged marriage mention, abusive relationship, Billy being an asshole obviously
Tumblr media
As soon as you woke up next to your sleeping husband, you were hit with the brutal realization that today was somehow significant. As you took a deep breath, you tried to remember. It wasn't a holiday, nor was it either of your children's birthdays.
You pondered it as you prepared breakfast for your family in the quiet kitchen. The sun rose around you as you buttered toast and scrambled the eggs. Then all of a sudden, you dropped your knife with a clatter.
It was you and Billy's wedding anniversary.
It had been five years since your father handed you over to Billy Andrews, neither of you even eighteen years old when the wedding occurred.
You loved your children more than anything, but sometimes Billy felt like your third child. He had cooled down from his teenage years now with both of you in your early twenties, thankfully.
"Breakfast ready yet?" Billy asked from behind you. You hadn't even heard him come down the stairs.
You turned around, "almost, sorry."
"Hurry up, I'm hungry and the kids will be up soon," Billy sneered, grabbing the plate of bacon and taking it to the table.
Your husband sat and stared as you tried to set the table quickly. You could hear son and daughter stirring in their rooms upstairs, and you'd have to carry your daughter with you as she was only two.
"Can you finish bringing the food over, Billy? I have to get Steph," you said hurriedly.
"Isn't that your job?" he groaned.
"Billy—“
"It's my wedding anniversary, I'm not doing any work," he stated, leaving no room for discussion.
You trudged up the stairs, each step feeling more difficult than the last. You were pregnant again, around four months in. You pitied the next poor child who would suffer at the hands of Billy Andrews being their father.
"Stephie, c'mere. Mama's got you," you cooed as you lifted your little girl out of her crib.
"Mama!" she giggled, her sweet little voice bringing a smile to your face.
You heard your son, William Junior, run down the stairs ahead of you, ready to greet his father. Billy was your son's favorite person, which scared you more than anything. You didn't want to raise a mini Billy, yet he'd insisted on naming his firstborn son after him anyway.
The four of you sat down at the table, Billy pulling you down onto the bench next to him and kissing you harshly on the mouth.
"Mommy, daddy, eww!" William laughed, with Stephanie's giggle following close behind.
"You kids are going over to Aunt Priscilla's today to play with your cousins," Billy stated, placing his hand on your thigh underneath the table.
"But dad, why?" William whined, slamming his fork on the table next to his plate.
"It's your mother and I's anniversary and I have something special planned," he said, fingers inching towards your undergarments.
You were scared, but slightly aroused. Billy, though not husband of the year, was pretty good in bed. He was always more concerned with his own pleasure, but you enjoyed being close to him, making him happy. It made you feel like a good wife.
Billy shut the door behind his sister as she left with your kids in tow, ready to spend a fun day with their cousins.
"So, what do you have planned?" you ask, turning and smiling to your husband. He dropped his arm from around your waist and looked at you with a hardened expression.
"Get on the ground."
"Billy, what—“
"YOU HEARD ME!" he yelled, pointing his finger directly at your face.
Wordlessly, you bent down onto the floor. Your husband threw a wet, vinegary sponge at you and crossed his hands across his chest.
"These floors are disgusting and you have no excuses. The bathrooms will be next. On my anniversary of suffering through marriage with you, I at least deserve to have a clean home," Billy growled.
You looked down. It hadn't even been a full week since you did the floors, and you felt nauseous after your descent to the floor, but you blinked back your tears and went to work anyway.
You crawled around like that for hours, dodging Billy's criticisms and suffering your way through your fifth wedding anniversary.
All of a sudden, you stood up and stomped over to where your husband sat in his study.
"Billy, what did I do wrong? I know our other anniversaries hadn't been much but... at least it seemed like you'd cared for me," you frown.
"I've been too nice to you lately and I need to put you back in your place. You are my wife and therefore my property," he declared.
"Billy, I raise your kids, take care of your home and do nothing but love you," you sniffle, almost pleading with him.
"I have grown tired of you. Get out of my sight," he stated simply.
You looked into his blue eyes and saw nothing, no traces of guilt or any feelings beyond anger.
Without another word, you turned around and headed outside, going straight to your garden. You at least wanted to bring some pretty flowers into your home on your anniversary, if nothing else.
You tried not to think of that dreadful day when your freedom and innocence was stolen away five years ago, but it lingered in your mind.

Must've been a bit disconserting when the quiet and reserved kid wakes up from a near-death experience all smiley and happy. Idk about Oleg but I would've gotten him checked for brain damage

hh sorry to bother you!! if requests are closed or you don't wanna write this you can delete the request but
i don’t know if you watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but it’s a really great anime and i wanted to send this character, the anime looks cute but it really isn’t 😭.
can i request josie pye, Gilbert Blythe or Prissy Andrews with a S/O who has a Homura Akemi Personality? (She’s stoic, distant, independent, Homura also appears with her personality being that of a shy, timid, magical girl rather than her cold and strong personality, she also knows self defense since she was in a lot of battles you can watch it here)
Thank you a ton!! I wish you well<33
hey i’m so sorry for the late reply, but here’s a headcanons for both :) i hope you enjoyed
—cw’s: just fluff!!! i think gen!neutral but lmk!
josie pye
i feel like josie would like an s/o who’s generally stoic and is independent
she wouldn’t necessarily mind having a stoic s/o because i feel like josie is reactive and it would be nice to have a neutral energy to the chaos 😭
she likes that you’re calm and that you can solve issues with logic instead of emotions and she can depend on you in that sense
she likes the fact that you are independent because she doesn’t like the feeling of letting people down
so if she knows that you wouldn’t be let down by her, it feels like a weight would be lifted off her shoulders
she is kind of the opposite of you
she would intrigued with your persona and kind of feels like it’s fake at first 😭
she didn’t like how shy you were because she wanted to get to you, but you were hard to break and that pissed her off
most people open up to her very quickly (surprisingly) so she would find this weird
but she ended up cracking you!! AND she fell in love <3
gilbert blythe
he finds you VERY interesting
he loves that you’re not an open book, he wants to earn getting to know you if that makes sense
gilbert loves a good challenge 😭😭
he’s used to people depending on him, so he doesn’t know how to feel when he realizes you’re pretty independent & would rather do it on your own
he loves that you’re shy & that you’re not like this with everyone
he feels special knowing that you’re not just talking to him to talk to him, but rather because you genuinely want to
he just loves your personality and it goes with his perfectly

Yandere Moody Spurgeon x Reader
I only write sfw, feel free to send asks, Yandere themes, forced kiss, forced marriage, vixen shaming, I don't know, it's long. I don't really like it after the Mrs. Linde part, I did season 3 Moody cuz the banjo was convenient. Thank you for the ask!!
You sound lovely!" Y/N spouted as the last string on Moodys banjo rung out.
"You're lovely- err I mean... thank you." He stuttered, blush running to his cheeks.
He truly thought she was lovely. The way her hair swayed as she moved. The way her laugh sounded as it filled a room. The color of her eyes and the way they sparkled when the light hit them just right. The way she spoke, especially when she was answering a question.
Y/N laughed a bit at his mess up.
"Why, thank you, Moody."
During class Moody would find his eyes wandering over to Y/Ns seat across the room. Sometimes he'd miss whole lessons, whole class days even, just staring at her.
Moody may not have been the smartest but he had a wild imagination. He'd imagined Y/N in a beautiful wedding dress with a lace veil and a bouquet of wild flowers. Of course, he'd be wearing a hand-me-down suit from his parents. Maybe with something new added, like a small embroidery from his mother, or some cufflinks, who knows? She'd smile at him with a tint of blush on her cheeks as she walked with her father down the isle and he'd feel his heart pump a million beats a second and then-
The school day would end and he'd have to watch her walk away.
But during lunch she'd always sit and listen to him play his banjo before going to eat with the other girls. She was practically his during that time.
"Y/N," Moody began one day while putting his Banjo down. "Would you like to eat with me today?" He asked, fidgeting with his fingers.
She just smiled and nodded before running off to get her lunch.
After that she began eating with him a few days out of the week. She'd grab her lunch and sit and listen to him play and laugh and talk with him. Moody felt content for a while.
Only for a while.
Then he got the idea that Y/N had fallen for him like he had fallen for her. Why wouldn't she? It just makes sense. They were practically already courting one another in his eyes.
He thought she stared at him like he was the only boy in the world. He thought she smiled brighter when she was with him. He thought she loved him.
He needed her to love him.
Finally, while sitting with Y/N in the school house during lunch, he croaked up the courage to say something.
"Y/N, will you marry me?" His eyes shut and his hands balled into clenched fists.
Y/N was just about to take a bite of a 🍐  and stopped in her tracks at his request. Thankfully no one had heard Moodys proposal.
"What?" Y/N asked, putting the fruit down.
"W-will you marry me?" He reiterated. Y/N took a moment to reprocess the situation.
After what felt like ages to Moody she finally began to show somewhat of a reaction. Her head began shaking and she began speaking.
"No. I'm sorry Moody." She looked down at her dress and fiddled with the hem of it. Moodys face flushed with a bright red color.
"Why not?" He pressed.
"It's nothing against you, Moody. It's just, well... we haven't even really courted, and Ill be leaving for Queens College soon and-" She thought for a moment, "I suppose I see you as more of a friend too, Moody." Every word she spoke dripped with her discomfort. She looked down and started cleaning up her lunch basket. Moody felt betrayed. What were they doing if not courting one another? And she sees him as more of a friend? Then why does she look at him like that? Being married won't stop her from going to college. Moody would never dream of holding her back. He just wanted to love her and for her to love him. To spend the rest of their lives together and grow old together. "I'm hardly ready for marriage any wa-!" Moodys hand reach behind Y/Ns head and he pulled her face in to his, practically clashing teeth with each other. Y/N pushed against him, moving her hands up to his chest, pressing as hard as she could and finally disconnecting their lips.
Moody fell back to the floor with heavy breath and Y/N stared down at him furiously.
This whole fiasco definitely did not go unnoticed by the class. Y/Ns face turned beat red, either from embarrassment, rage, or a mix of both, as she looked around the class at the other students ogling at her.
She quickly stood up and gave Moody a swift kick in his shin before collecting her things and running out of the school house.
Moodys hand reached up to one of the desk tables for support as he pulled himself up, noticing the many groups whispering about the incident. He felt a lump grow in his throat that he tried to swallow back while fixing his clothes, then he ran out of the school house, like Y/N had previously.
If something were to happen in Avonlea the whole town would know about it. Whether from word of mouth or Mrs. Rachel Linde going around spreading the good, bad, and nasty news. Of course Y/Ns parents heard about what had happened from Mrs. Linde who had heard it from a group of students passing by her home. She immediately scurried herself over to the L/N little farm and shared her thoughts on the matter.
"Well hello, Mrs. Linde." Y/Ns mother said as she opened her front door. Rachel came barging in the second she saw the door move.
"Mrs. L/N." She greeted, already in the parlor of the white walled house. "I assume you've heard of..." she looked around for somewhere to place her hat and coat, spying the rack by the front door, then continued; "Your daughters little fiasco at the school house." She placed her hat and coat on the rack and moved to sit in one of the chairs in the parlor.
Mrs. L/N took a seat across from Rachel and pushed out the rinkles of her dress.
"No, what has she done now?" Her brows furrowed. Her daughter had never been apart of any of Rachel's rumors and it was discontenting to see it happening now.
"Oh its a doosy." Her finger pointed at Mrs. L/N. "I heard the boys talking. Today, in front of the whole class she caused a spectacle." She had a short huff  before continuing again. "You know I'm not one to gossip, but as your friend I thought you needed to know. If your daughter is truly becoming a vixen then you have every right to know. Knock the devil out of her before it's too late-"
"Please, just tell me what happened, Mrs. Linde." Your mother pleaded, slightly irked by Rachel's coarse language and accusations at her daughter.
"Yes, well, I was sitting on my porch moments ago when I heard the Andrews and Sloane boy talking. According to them, your daughter was locking lips with that Moody Spurgeon boy in the middle of class. For everyone to see. Apparently they both ran out of the school house around noon together and haven't been back since. Took their things and all."
Mrs. L/N was shocked to say the least.
"Well, I suppose I'll have to have a word with my daughter. Thank you for informing me, Mrs. Linde." She stood up and ushers for Rachel to do so as well, which Rachel did oblige but she couldn't help herself from shoving her opinion in the mix, again.
"You know, with how many people saw this fiasco, you might as well marry her off to that boy. It's the only chance she'll have at finding a husband under the circumstances. Word travels fast and no one is going to want a girl who's been throwing herself at men left and right."
"Of course, Rachel." Mrs. L/N sighed. "I suppose that's our only option." Her hand moved to her temple and attempted to rub out her forming migraine.
"Well. Keep me in on the loop." Rachel added before grabbing her things and leaving, more than likely to go spread the word to every end of Avonlea.
About an hour after Mrs. Linde left Y/N, returned home. Mrs. L/N had already discussed the incident and what they needed to do with Mr. L/N and the two were waiting for their lovely, possibly a vixen, daughter to return home. The second y/n walked in the door they dragged her back out and ventured to the Spurgeon home.
"I don't know what happened, Y/N, but this is unacceptable. No doubt Rachel's gone and told all of Avonlea by now." Her mother chattered.
"It's not my fault!"
Mrs. L/N scoffed in response.
"Well, there isn't much we can do about it now. Your fault or not, it happened. And now you're becoming a laughing stock. We'll have to fix this somehow, with the Spurgeon family."
They arrived at the house, Y/N begrudgingly stepping up to the porch with her family. They were invited in and the parents went to discuss matters.
Y/N remained standing by the door as Moody stared at her, eyes filled with guilt.
"I'm sorry, Y/N" he mumbled. He wasnt actually sorry but he didnt exactly know what else to say.
"Sorry wont fix this, Moody. You were supposed to be my friend. Now my reputation is ruined. I'll have to leave the island to get married with the way Mrs. Linde has been reacting." Y/N huffed in response.
Meanwhile, in the other room;
"My son kissed your daughter. He told us everything. He will take responsibility. Whatever you think is best." Mrs. Spurgeon assured.
"Well I'd like to believe my daughter had no hand but I was her age once too." Mrs. L/N shook her head. "I suggest we give the two what they want and settle it that way. It's easier on us and easier on them."
Mrs. Spurgeon nodded in response and the two treked back to the front room.
"You two will marry." Mrs. L/N said, an unwarranted smile plastered her face.
"What?" The two kids said in unison, one clearly more excited about it than the other.
"It makes the most sense." Mrs. Spurgeon added.
"Makes the most sense?" Y/N stepped up. "How does that make any sense?"
"Bite your tongue, dear." Her mother warned. "It's not likely that you'll he able to find anyone else now is it?" Her mother continued to press. "Clearly you must enjoy Moodys presence in some capacity or you wouldn't have been near him to begin with. This is our final decision."
"But Queens College!" Y/N huffed. "I'm taking the entrance exam soon!"
"You can still go!" Moody chimed in. A scowl crept to Y/Ns' face but Moody pressed on, taking a step forward to continue his soon to be ramble. "I-I would never hold you back. You can go to Queens College and Ill go to college too and then we can be married after we both graduate."
"Very good, Moody." His mother congratulated. "That's what we'll do."
And with that, the two were engaged. It was all over Avonlea. Y/N had her reputation back and Moody had her, although Y/N tried tirelessly to break the engagement.
