on the note of the thing i just posted, i really do think some people take the whole “kdj sees yjh as just a character and yjh gets made about him mainly for that” thing a little too far? First of all i don’t think that kdj seeing yjh as a character actually affects the emotions driving his interactions with yjh, nor their genuineness. What it really affects is his assumptions about what yjh’s behavior means and what yjh will do next, which from the beginning yjh is challenging kdj’s perception of him thus never truly limiting kdj’s interpretation of yjh to just a “mere character” as i’ve seen it put. Secondly, i really feel like yjh, after the initial shock and betrayal, actually takes the whole “being a character” thing really well. Yeah he’s mad and understandably so, but he’s not mad about being a character, he’s mad about what he thinks that means for he and dokja’s relationship, and by extension the relationship dokja has with everyone around him. When hsy’s tells him off for attacking kdj on reincarnation island, he starts to falter because she’s showing him how dokja has always been genuine in his care for them. The reason I feel yjh snaps when hsy calls him a character isn’t because she called him one, it’s because she says something like “You weren’t written to be a character like this” and as such is denying yjh’s right to feel the way he does. She essentially says, oh you’re just a character you shouldn’t be feeling like this (even if that’s not what she meant, it’s likely how yjh takes it) and the forceful loss of agency implied in that is what makes yjh furious. Because he is a living breathing person who has every right to feel and think in the way he chooses. (which for everything dokja thinks of yjh, he never once denies yjh’s agency, the same way that for his companions, he never belittles their emotions or their mindsets whether they’re a “character” or not).

Okay this was a couple of weeks ago but I think about it all the time so here.

When I had finished a production with a local community theatre group (I was an ensemble member), we had an afterparty because that's what you do after you finish all your shows.

And the cast members all got called out to receive a poster of the show and stuff to be like "thank you" and they could say a few words. And one of the main characters (We were doing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and he was Willy Wonka) said that he was nervous taking on the role, then watched the Broadway show and was terrified, but walked into the first rehearsal and saw me laughing my head off at my own joke and knew it was going to be fun and I kinda hid behind my girlfriend and whispered "help that's the nicest way I've been called a dumbass everyone is looking at me what do I do"

But I was secretly really really happy to be noticed and seen hysterically laughing and NOT judged for my sanity or lack thereof? Like it made me feel really happy and accepted that someone felt accepted by me being stupid. If that makes sense.

And I think about that a lot because I never knew me being a dumbass and laughing hysterically at my own jokes was inspirational or made people feel like they were in a safe supportive community (as opposed to questioning my sanity and wondering what the hell's wrong with me) and so now I think about that a lot and wonder how many other people feel safe to be themselves or such by me being my regular dumbass self

So moral of this story (if there is one I guess) be your dumbass self and find the community that will appreciate and love you for it
