9, 33, and 40 for the writer asks!! <3
thank you for the ask!!! for anyone else who wants to send me one, here is the list.
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
yes, in all forms, but as a rule i show them respect and not fear
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
gosh! i guess i am... in the technical sense... a singer, but somehow i don't think of it as a particularly creative part of me. i also used to do a lot of visual art but i've fallen out of practice. those things are not usually connected to my writing but i think my creative mind always works the same — focused, super one-track, fuelled by music!
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
i am so glad you asked >:) i actually track the mary oliver tag here on tumblr lol which i would recommend, it's so lovely seeing those posts pop up on my dash. as it happens the most recent one i saw was "wild geese," so even though it's well-known and you might have seen it before, it really is the most beautiful thing ever, and here it is:
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

thinkin about the last rb/mary oliver cat poem. was gonna make a comment like “oh your cat probably doesnt think like that bc it recognizes that it’s not a human!” before i realized that comment misses the point
funky how working with birds of prey conditions you. the raptors have no love for me—im a food supplier and that’s it. and maybe that’s how truly feral cats are but its weird to think that animals can develop family feelings with a human yk?
