The LAST WALTZ (1978) - BOB DYLAN POSTERS (Part 4/10)
When The Band, one of the greatest American-Canadian bands ever decided to split in 1976, they opted to it in fashion by putting a live concert reuniting most of the Artists they played with over the years.
They hired Martin Scorcese to film the 4 hour long live show which was held at the Winterland in San Francisco on Thanksgiving day
Having been Bob Dylan’s backing band in 1966, 1969 and 1974, they managed to bring him out of semi retirement to be one of the guests in the All-star lineup you can see on the various movie posters above from Belgium, East Germany, Germany, Italy, Japan, Romania and the US and France as well as the two original BGP concert posters (click on each for details)
Director: Martin Scorcese  Actors: Bob Dylan, The Band, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr , Neil Young

COLUMBO (1971-1978) - PETER FALK POSTERS (Part 1/10)
PETER FALK is obviously world famous for his role as Lieutenant Columbo whom he portrayed for 8 seasons between 1971 and 1978 in 43 episodes
But before reaching stardom, he worked hard as secondary actor making himself known and respected early in his career as he received not one but two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor in 1961 and 1962.
This allowed him to get second Top billing in big production movies he was cast along major Stars. He also acted in many movies with his very good friends John Cassavetes and Ben Gazzara between 1969 and 1977.
A meticulous actor he worked non stop, perfecting his unique mix of comedic timing and rough voice and looks slouching and looking odd as his right eye was closed due to an incurable cancer he got at age 3.
We start this 10 Part Tribute to his movie sand TV movies with a super rare collection of nearly ALL the Italian movie posters created between 1978 and 1977 when several of his Columbo episodes were released theatrically due to the immense success of the Tv series there
Above are original movie posters from Italy (click on each image for details).

WALT DISNEY MOVIES by Ben Harman (2020-2024) - AMP: ALTERNATIVE MOVIE POSTERS (Part 1/10)
Long gone is the era where movie posters were designed and printed to make the moviegoer go wow with stunning artwork made by a skilled illustrator / designer.
That era ended in the late 80's-early 90's with the advent of photoshop and the standardization of production, creating images that would "fit" the needs of every country through "globalization", i.e. the denying of each nation and culture's singularities.
Thankfully salvation arrived in the late 2000's with independent movie theaters such as Alamo Drafthouse and their merchandising  arm, Mondo, who commissioned vibrant new creators / designers / Artists to create limited edition prints for the classic movies being screened.
In just 3 years by 2011, Mondo became a powerhouse releasing hundreds of prints (limited from 75 to 200 copies only) which sold out instantly (literally in less than 30 seconds!!!) on their website. Their example was followed by other theaters (Castro in San Francisco...) and Galleries (Bottleneck, Spoke Art, Mad Duck, DarkHall Mansion...) launching not only a truly Artistic movement called AMP, Alternative Movie Posters but also a new generation of incredibly talented creators / illustrators which THIS 10 PART BLOG is devoted to.
We start with most of the incredble limited eidtion prints create dby Ben Harman from his Disney series. he also did a Pixar series (Click on each image for details).
Director: Clyde Geronimi, Wolfgang Reitherman Actors: N/A

LEVI'S JEANS (1971) - JEANS ADVERTISING POSTERS (Part 1/10)
Founded in 1853, the Strauss Levi company (Now known as LEVI's) introduced its first Blue Jean in 1873 which at first was a garment for workers and cowboys due to its strong Denim fabric
By the mid 50's it became a symbol of freedom thanks to James Dean and Marlon Brando wearing them in Rebel Without A Cause and The Wild One and then Rock bands who threw their tight suits in favor of wearing more comfy and cooler Jeans
The American brand is the number one Jeans company in the world
By the early 70's, its European affiliates decide dto embrace the freedom of thoughts and wear and asked Dutch advertising legend, Ida Van Bladel to come up with a new campaign.
The Naked Jeans image has been an instant hit, with its iconic poster reproduced in countless fashion and advertising books. This is the original 1971 poster.

The first entry in this Blog of a Christmas movie directed by Tim Burton (see Parts 5 and 8) and his first masterpiece
To sell the Hollywood Studios a pitch where a fabricated outcast with scissorhands is being adopted by a suburban family and fall in love with a gorgeous woman all at Christmas time is no mean feat and Burton clearly made it happen, creating a modern day Xmas Fantasy and initiating a long collaboration with Johnny Depp.
Above are the two different original Japanese posters as well as two limited edition prints by Laurent Durieux (Click on each image for details).

FOLIES BERGERE posters (1976-1977) - SHOWGIRLS ON PAPER (Part 1/10)
Showgirls...A staple of posters whether they are travel / Airlines. Advertising or movies as they exude femininity, sensuality, beauty and exotic entertainment
The first Cabaret / Music-Hall shows were created in Paris mainly at the end of the 19th century  with the world famous Casino de Paris  launching its first Music hall revue in 1880 immediately followed by Les Folies bergere in 1886 and Le Moulin rouge and its French Can-Can spectacle in 1889
Those 3 pre-war staples were joined immediately after WW2 by Le Lido (1946) and then Le Crazy Horse de Paris (1951), the latter being the only one in activity today
This 10 Part Blog gives homage to the giorgeous showgirls from paris and las Vegas thru the poster medium whether i its airlines / travel, Advertising or in movies (Documentary and Dramas)
We start with the iconic series by illustrator ASLAN for the Folies Bergere revue in 1976 and 1977, each featuring three different colors (Blue, Peach and Pink). Click on each image or details.

La PISCINE (1969) - JANE BIRKIN: A VISUAL HOMMAGE (Part 1/10)
JANE BIRKIN left us very recently and we lost a true icon, a word overused but in this case so fit for the multi talented actress (94 movies), singer (13 studio albums and 6 live albums), activist, fashion icon and mother of three talented daughters (actresses and photographer) she had with 3 different husbands (John Barry, Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Doillon)
Born in an English upper class family and a staple of Mod-ear London, having appeared in the Knack and Blow-Up, Jane Birkin got her breakthrough in the year 1969 when she was cast in one of the most erotic and beautifully filmed movies, La piscine along Alain Delon and Romy Schneider.
Following this movie, she filmed two more movies in France in 1969, a country she decided to live in from 1970 as she was abandoned (with her daughter Kate) by John Barry
The passionate love relationship she found when she met Serge Gainsbourg is stuff of legends and they were inseparable both as artists (composer/singer - Director/actor) and husband/wife till the mid 80's when they divorced
But Jane was more than Gainsbourg's "thing" as she carved her own successful career in France and in the UK and other countries (Japan, Italy..) where she was revered too
This 10 Part Blog is a short and humble visual tribute to the beauty and talent of Lady Jane
We start with La Piscine represented here with original movie posters from Belgium, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, The US and Yugoslavia (click on each images for details)
Director: Jacques Deray
Actors: Jane Birkin, Alain Delon, Maurice Ronet, Romy Schneider
