Okay, I'm gonna say something, and I want you to hear me out. Okay? Okay.

Show Colin still has aspects of his book self, but because show Colin has been written into situations book Colin has not been in his issues of purpose has been thrusted forward earlier. In season 1 we are kind of told that Colin has been a flirt and we see it a little bit during ballroom scenes and the early part of his courtship with Marina. Then he finds out that someone he thought he had deep feelings for was using him and so he shrinks in on himself for a while, cautiously stepping back into the ton.

But what do we know from the books? Colin has the charm to get away with murder if he wants. Charm is a social talent, and of the three brothers, the one we see among society the most is Colin. I believe we have been shown some of this charm as well with his investigation of Jack Featherington, and a strong scene I see this in is when he takes the necklace Cressida is wearing. Smooth, calm words, makes her feel admired, with a sleight of hand. There's the charm working. I do think we will see more of this come season 3 when Colin starts playing by Penelope's rules of society.

Also, while Benedict has been changed up by the show between the two of them, I would still label Colin the charming Bridgerton. In the books, Benedict was just kind of there before his own book, so we really didn't know much beyond what the Bridgerton reputation was. All the siblings were considered popular, nice, and some of the highest catches among the ton. While Colin is the mischevious one as shown when he plays matchmaker with his siblings, allowing us to see more of his personality, Benedict was just kinda there. A background character who was lumped together with the other brothers. Which did play well in his own book as being seen as nothing more than part of the set. But for a TV show that has and demands a wider lens, they would need to give Benedict more.

So it seems they are leaning into the reputation of the Bridgertons for Benedict. But while Benedict has his charming moments, most of his story so far has been on his own little island, unattached. It doesn't involve the family much except for background movements such as Anthony's donation to the art school. Benedict usually has to be found, too, while we see Colin around his mother and sisters more. And yes, while Benedict does have a better relationship with Eloise in the show, I think that more has to do with the show pairing up the siblings based on birth order. We saw the same thing with Anthony and Daphne, and I'll think we'll see it with Colin and Francesca, too.

I think what has a lot of people seeing Colin's personality in Benedict is fandom bias. Yes, the brothers do share some traits, but because Benedict is a fandom favorite, he's the one who gets assigned those traits. Kind of reminds me of boy bands where they're all similar, but people will assign them as the cute one, the smart one, etc. An example of this for Benedict and Colin would be the opium tea. It's Colin's tea. He's the one who brought it home from Greece, introduced to Benedict. Yes, we see Benedict get high off his ass on it, which is probably why he's associated with it more meanwhile Colin, who's had the thing for a while now, knows how to use it responsibly.

This is just my thoughts, though. It will be interesting when we go in depth with Colin and Benedict later. We'll be seeing them through their eyes instead of the eyes of their siblings. I believe we'll start seeing differences in their personalities.

as an actual jiara/cleope enthusiast... it feels like a bid on the writer's part to make the show as heteronormative as possible XD. like cleope and jiara have fantastic chemistry but so far it feels like jj and kie's is still platonic and it needs a little time to develop more. like yes, I believe they love each other because that is what comes with the strong pogue bond territory!!! but i feel like s3 was the time for the lines between the platonic and romantic love to truly blur a little and become hazy, without establishing anything, and have the two of them be in denial about their connection and insist to themselves that it wouldn't work out and that they wouldn't work for each other even though they're clearly attracted to each other. it feels a little premature for them to be that confident about their feelings, yk? they should have stopped at the truce and then reconsidered being romantically entangled in s4. and given kie an arc of her own, while jj supports her, and jj resolves his restitution arc and considers his living situation now that Luke is gone. and have them explore jj's trauma both alone and with kie.

and cleo is barely a character in her own right/capacity, despite the fact that she's so colorful and bright and clearly interesting/capable of offering a great story. the show should have chosen to make her backstory/friendship with all the pogues a priority. the romantic chemistry between her and pope is there but it feels premature especially because cleo isn't even a very established character either, compared to kie or sarah. we know little about her motivations and plans and family and loved ones. we have no idea where terrance is. and this could have existed at the same time as the pope/cleo romance arc, neither has to be sacrificed!! but at the same time it feels a little early to establish them as a relationship, and honestly a little heteronormative tbh (that's kinda the vibe i always get when a friend group on tv has literally all the people couple up into neat straight pairings, especially because that's hardly how real life works lol.

and even though i do love and enjoy both ships, the show could use more queer characters too. lesbian!kie or cleo could have totally been great and honestly they both have the energy, although i'm a fan of all the pogues being bi too XD

I love your idea of Shadow Soap running into Ghost on a mission- maybe they become reluctant allies. BUT I'm also kinda a sucker for them being enemies during an event like the Mandalorian Jedi Wars where Mandos hunted Jedi.

Like imagine Ghost leading a team of Mandos on a raid of a Jedi enclave, only to find there's padawans there not ready to fight against Mandos. Lo and behold there's a Jedi there defending them- dark brown hair trimmed short, stance wide, and gaze furious at the hunters who are trying to hurt those students. Like full on snarling spitting mode.

They have an epic duel which gets interrupted, Soap and the others get reinforcements and drive the Mandos back. Yet after the battle is over Ghost can't shake the thought of the Jedi he faced, how the feral glint of his eyes looked almost beautiful.

Hanahaki Au soukoku: but liar extraordinaire Dazai, instead of throwing away the flowers starts like- sleight of handing them(and other flowers so it's not all the same type of flower) into Chuuya's pockets and hat band and hair and shit. And Chuuya's annoyed obviously cuz where the fuck do these shits keep coming from. And like eventually he catches Dazai hiding onebof the flowers and gets pissed because honestly what else would it be, ofc it was him tryna fuck with his reputation and shit or whatever.

So they fight or something and yada yada. Maybe Dazai gets sent on a mission. But maybe Chuuya stops discarding the flowers so easily now that he knows where they're coming from, because complicated as it might be and deny it as he might, maybe them being from Dazai makes them matter more, which is dumb cuz obviously it was just to mess with him.

Anyways Dazai comes back and the flowers start showing up again naturally, now actually neater then before- some even have full stems and leaves and shit, yknow? And meanwhile Mori has obviously noticed and is like "bro just do the surgery to get it out?" but also it's like- concrete proof to Dazai that kinda physically anchors him to his humanity so he honestly deep down doesn't really want it to go away.

But time passes and Chuuya notices when flowers start growing and like- slipping through Dazai's bandages. And just- instant dread, cuz this shits been going on for a fairly long time. And he realizes that obviously it's him Dazai likes cuz I mean he's been giving the flowers to him. So complicated conflicted feelings and pride be damned he confesses to Dazai and shit.

But maybe at this point he takes more comfort in what him having the disease mean than he does in the idea of changing what he currently has with Chuuya- or maybe he feels he doesn't deserve it, that there's no way Chuuya could love him after everything, that if he is he is wrong to. So he pulls a face and is like "lol you thought it was you?" which is like- oooof for Chuuya (maybe he catches it)

You know, when I read that Anthony lives to his 90s, I just thought it was pure irony.

Anthony has always thought himself a shadow of Edmund to the point he couldn't see himself outliving his father. But with this information, to me, at least, it is very likely Anthony became the Violet in this scenario Even if we take kathony's 9 years of age difference in the books, it would still put Kate in her 80s, and honestly, I think Anthony is outliving Kate.

Now, in ways, kathony is different from Edmund and Violet in the sense that they have more time. Edmund and Violet did everything young, some say too young, from getting married to having kids. Edmund was only in his 30s when he was unexpectedly taken. Anthony and Kate did things a little bit later. Anthony married at 29, going on 30, and Kate was on the verge of spinsterhood or was already declared a spinster. Edmund and Violet had their last kid at 39 and 37. Meanwhile, Anthony and Kate had their last child at 46 and 37, respectively.

This longer sense of time, I think, is gonna expand into their time together, too. They'll be that old couple that loves one another, but they can start an argument just by looking at each other. I don't think either of their deaths will be all that shocking like Edmund's. I think Kate is gonna pass from old age first, and even though it's something Anthony has been expecting, it's still gonna hurt becoming a widower. Anthony will mourn and he'll continue to live his life until he also passes from old age.

ok i know that history and anne lister’s real letters apparently say that her and ann’s marriage wasn’t happy for long and i’m already starting to see that play out in the show. and i’m bummed. i know i shouldn’t be bummed by a literal historical fact about people who’ve been dead for almost 200 years but i am. i just wanted to watch a period drama about wlw who live happily ever after and i think the writers should just say fuck history and give us that because we deserve it.

Yesterday: *helped push a car out of the mud, pushed a couple of lambs around to move them, and had to get a ewe's head unstuck from a hay feeder, by taking the feeder apart*

i grew up in a way where saying i love you was reserved only for family and romantic partners. i could never conceive of it being used in any other scenario. in light of that, the biggest piece of personal growth i've ever had is being able to say i love you to my friends. i can say i love you. it doesn't come with connotations or attachments. it's just an expression of love for someone i care about. i love my friends and i'm not ashamed of it anymore
