#if you haven't you're missing on how the walking dead SHOULD'VE gone-
Persona 3 Reload *SPOILERS*
So, I've let this sit for two weeks now and I think it's time for me to finally dish my thoughts. There will be spoilers for those that either haven't finished Reload or those who haven't played any version of Persona 3 at all. If you haven't done either one, I highly recommend you stop reading and go finish it *now*. This is your only warning at this point.
Have you finished it? OK, good. Let's get started.
Persona 3 Reload is a really, really good game. It makes what was once old new again and playing through P3R gave me the same strong feelings I had back when I first played Persona 3 FES. It was like meeting an old friend again after they got themselves both a makeover and nearly 20 years passed between the last time you saw them in person.
Let me get my nitpicky stuff out of the way before I heap the praise it deserves.
I straight-up did not like them taking away school club choice from us. How dare they?! I wanted to do Kendo and Photography like I did in FES, yet I was stuck with Track and Art? If I had to be stuck with a culture club, music should've been the canon club of choice. Our protagonist literally wears headphones all the time! You can't show me the music room at least thrice and tease me with us seeing it, yet not joining the club.
I hate the name change for Operation Babe Hunt. What's wrong with calling it Operation Babe Hunt? The name was fine! It was the creepy behavior of the boys and the transmisogyny that was the problem in it in the original, not the name!
The AI programming is shit. Look, a majority of folks bitching about not being able to control the characters in the original game and FES are being whiny babies that don't know how to use the tactics menu. It's a nitpick because I know that the game has decidedly gone for direct control, but honestly? I would've loved the sophisticated AI that Persona 3 and 3 FES used to be utilized.
Folks bitching about the High-Cut Bikini honestly just need to calm the fuck down. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Whatever happened to the "Don't like? Don't use!" mindset? You're not being forced by evoker-point to use it.
The music is a downgrade. Lotus Juice is fine as always, but the new singer had a tough job to take over for Yumi Kawamura and fucking failed. The new songs that Yumi never sang are fine, but the new versions of the original songs? Oof. It is bad. Mass Destruction was whack and the less said about her version of Kimi no Kioku, the better.
So, yeah, those are my main nitpicks. Now onto the praise.
The voice acting is top-tier. And I need to put it in a second post because it would be too long. Just know that the English dub is fantastic and no one misses in it at all.
The extra scenes and hangouts we get with the boys are perfect. It fleshes out the guys in ways I wouldn't have expected. For example, I never knew Akihiko was adopted and has parents until Reload put that in there. Do you want to know where that information was originally known? In an artbook and a drama CD! Thank you, Reload, for giving us this vital information I never knew about.
The animation where there's a fusion accident is the funniest fucking thing they've added to the game. I love it, it's hilarious.
They made Shinjiro's death even sadder than the original. For those who have not played the original/FES, Shinjiro has enough strength to walk off before dropping dead under a streetlight. It was a more surreal, trippy moment for his death than anything else because of the art direction in the original/FES. In Reload? They went with what was shown in the movies, with Shinjiro dying in Akihiko's arms. If I had a nickel for every time the edgier of the two men in the ship die in the other's arms, it'd be two nickels. It's not a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice now. Not to mention the link episodes with Shinjiro are killer. You actually get to see how Shinjiro would look in his school uniform and, fuck, seeing baby Shinjiro, Mitsuru, and Akihiko together is just... it breaks the heart. And that conversation with Mitsuru the day after when you go in Shinjiro's room? Fucking ow! Way to break my heart, Shinjiro.
I'm glad that you *can* save Chidori's life. My Junpei/Chidori heart is so happy about that. And Junpei's second theurgy? Heartbreakingly beautiful, whether Chidori lives or dies.
I am so glad the game allows us to ask why Takaya doesn't wear a shirt. Strega's motivations have always been clear to me from day one. But Takaya, why the fuck do you not wear a shirt?
But yeah, those are my thoughts. It's a good remake. If you're not certain it's for you, try it out on GamePass. Otherwise? Buy it, you won't regret it.

"Till Death Do Us Part"
A/N: First time writing about Alivebur in limbo! Loved it.
This IS a one shot so don't expect anything referring back to this place except maybe the Glatt stuff and where he is but you can read that at the end.
Genre: 🍃🌷Angsty fluff
Pairing: Alivebur x Fem!Reader
Setting: New L'manberg
Summary: You visit Wilbur's grave on what was supposed to be your wedding day anniversary. Ghostbur, who has happily filled in for Wilbur, accompanies you and can't comfort you as he sees Alivebur's last remaining legacy. As tears make their way to your face, he knows he can't make you as happy as he did.
Warnings: Grief
°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•~°~•
Ghostbur's translucent hand gripped yours as you walked. The spruce slabs creaked below your boots. Just yours. Ghostbur's near invisible feet made no noise on the wood walkways.
A thirteen years ago you were supposed to be married. You should've been in a home you built with your husband and maybe even some kids running around driving you crazy.
You were supposed to be happy today.
"We don't have to go." Ghostbur's gentle voice coaxed you out of the spiral forming. He was the ghost of your deceased husband-to-be. His ghost and much nicer counterpart.
"No. No I need to. I haven't gone since he-" You stopped yourself. "since you died. I need to see him." You said. Somewhere deep down you knew it was wrong of you to ask Ghostbur to come with you to visit his own grave, but the apparition had offered and insisted on not letting you go alone.
"I'm right here." Ghostbur squeezed your hand gently and gave you a smile that could make the heavens weep.
Wilbur's smile. Ghostbur's smile. It was all the same but so heartbreakingly different. Ghostbur was just another reminder that Wilbur was dead. Gone from this plane of existence.
So why was he so hard to let go? Ghostbur? If all he did was bring up memories of the one who was no more?
"Because he's him in some twisted way. He's the good of Wilbur that you loved." You thought in return and stiffened as the two of you rounded the hill outside of New L'manberg towards the spruce tree you'd planted as a marker of where you wanted to live when you and Wilbur married.
Now it was a single grave site for the man you loved. Wilbur's gravestone was eccentric for such a way that he went out. Murdered by his own father. His father who was considered a hero for the act.
You had forgiven Phil ages ago. You knew he did the right thing in the end. The Wilbur that Phil killed had not been yours. Your Wilbur would've kept fighting and trying to find a peaceful way to end things. Your Wilbur wouldn't have ever placed that TNT. Or even thought of that button on a regular basis.
"Ghostbur.... Do you think he's still somewhere?" You knee led in the grass by Wilbur's grave. "Like in some kind of spiritual plane?"
"Sorry, I-I don't think I understand." Ghostbur sat beside you. His presence a wisp in the atmosphere.
"I mean like," You began. "You're here because Wilbur had unfinished business. That's how ghosts work right? And Schlatt was killed but his ghost isn't around because he's fulfilled his purpose here. So, that means you're here because Wilbur isn't finished. He isn't gone really." You're eyes stung with tears and your voice cracked in the sense of hope that he could come back.
"Oh y/n, Please! Please don't cry!" Ghostbur's arms wrapped around you and pulled you close into his surprisingly solid body.
"I miss him Ghostbur." You sobbed. No matter how much you wished it, Ghostbur wasnt Wilbur. He was the goofy and sweet of your dead fiance sure, but he didn't have the playful love for chaotic conflict, or the confidence in his mission for peace. Ghostbur was the smiles and sweet kisses and that's all. He wasn't the laughter at the dumbest jokes or the memories after the fights.
He wasn't Alivebur as much as you wanted him to be.
"He misses you too Y/N. More than you know. I can feel it." Ghostbur said into your hair as you cried. You felt him wipe a few tears away with his thumb only to hear a small hiss from the contact with the salty tears.
Thunder rolled above you and rain pattered down slowly. Each drop on Ghostbur's skin hissed lightly but he made no sign of moving.
"He loved you Y/N. He loves you still, and I know this because I love you." Ghostbur's words sunk into your heart as he spoke in the voice exactly like His. "I love you Y/N, and I'm here to stay whether in the rain or sunshine. In death or life I will never part from you."
You felt him kiss your head and your tears began to dry as the rain slowed to a drizzle.
Wilbur wasn't gone entirely. As Ghostbur said:
"In life and death I will never part from you."
"I'll be right here when I see you again Wilbur." You thought and felt the thunder above relay your message to whatever cruel dimension Wilbur's remaining soul rested in now.
✨BONUS✨
Wilbur stared at the empty train station. The dim lights around him flickered as he blinked. Suddenly there was a rumble of power running through the cold Limbo.
He stood to his feet and walked to the tracks as he saw the glimmer of lights shine down the tunnel. Was this his ticket back to the living world?! Was he finally getting out of this Hell?!
The train blew past, whip lashing the poor man back onto his ass and with his white streaked hair blown into an even bigger mess than it had been when he got here.
How long ago was that? Ten years? Twelve? No no no, it was thirteen.
As the train ended out the tunnel on the other side he heard a message loud and clear ring through the station. A voice he hadn't heard in forever. A saving grace to his last sliver of humanity.
"I'll be right herd when I see you again Wilbur."
Your voice. Oh your sweet voice. It was music to his ears. But where! Where were you talking about?! Where could he possibly find you when he got out of here?!
A memory of his first few moments dead emerged. Schlatt had been there in a meadow. The man looked at ease for the horrors he had caused on the nation of L'manberg.
"If you ever wanna hear your loved ones they gotta be at your grave. The last place your body was before you got sent to your dimension." The ram horned man had shrugged off Wilbur's following questions and simply waved him away.
Then Wilbur woke up from the meadow a few days later to the dingy train station he knew now.
"My grave....you're at my grave Darling." He said to the dark ceiling. A feeling of happiness washed through him as tears ebbed in the corners of his eyes. His head thumped on the pristine gray floor of the station. His back now flat on the concrete.
"Happy Anniversary my Dear. I'll see you soon." He smiled and let out a cheery laugh through his choking tears.
Oh how he missed you...
°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•°~•
Hope you liked it! I cried a little honestly and yes the Afterlife meadow is kind of just a plot hole thing I made up. We don't know where Glatt is and quite honestly I like to think after he died he got sent to a beautiful place full of potential where he couldn't do ANYTHING. He was completely powerless and for the first few decades there he was mother natures toy.
Until he accepted the fact he had no power there he would be punished by the elements and eventually he did and now lives a life of nothing since he can't go back to the living world. 🙂
Fun times 👍

Purple's Second Chance
Master Post, Chapter Three
CHAPTER FOUR: TOUR
Leo and Casey led Donnie through the base. Shortly into the tour, Leo had told Casey not to cling to Donnie as Donnie didn't like physical touch. That was a little shocking for Casey to learn as Uncle Tello always let him touch him.
Right, this isn't his Uncle Tello. This is the younger, more scared version of him who didn't know who Casey was. Casey just had to remember that.
"Leon?" Donnie asked softly, Casey trailing in front of them.
"Yeah?"
"What exactly happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"The aliens. How did they come to invade Earth?"
"It started seventeen years ago, a few months after you laid your eggs. They had hatched and the family couldn't be happier." Leo sighed softly. "Hypno and the worm guy had robbed a store, so the four of us went to stop them, Splinter and Robbie were taking care of your hatchlings, as you were found of calling them."
Donnie frowned. "Where are they not?"
"Dead. You're the last White Turtle left."
"Oh."
"Anyway, Hypno and the worm had gotten the key to the Prison Dimension for the Foot Clan. We fought and eventually ended up losing. The Foot opened the doorway and out came the Kraang. We've been fighting them ever since."
"What happened to Raph and Papa?"
"Dad died a year or two in the war saving a group of survivors. A mission had gone wrong and killed Raph."
"Casey, that is his name, right? Great, Casey mentioned that he thought I was dead."
"As April said, you died of a Kraang infection. I believe it happened shortly after the Kraang came, but took years to kill you. I should've noticed something, you went through it alone."
"How did I get infected?"
"We don't know. Maybe you got bit and didn't amputate, but that doesn't sound like you."
"Sensei Leonardo!" someone called out. "We're running low on food supplies."
"I've got to take care of this. Casey, keep leading Donnie around. Last stop should be his laboratory."
Casey nodded. "Got it, Sensei."
Leo left, leaving the two alone. An awkward silence covered them as they walked. Casey would occasionally glance at Donnie then sigh.
"Casey, you can say what's on your mind."
"I miss you. I know it's fucked up to miss the you I knew and love when you're right here."
"It's not fucked up. You have every right to miss the me you know. I understand why you would."
"You do?"
Donnie nodded. "I haven't matured into what you know me as. You get to miss me and I won't try to replace him."
"Can I call you Uncle Tello?"
"If you want to."
Casey smiled widely. "Thank you, Uncle Tello!"
"Leo mentioned that I have a lab?"
"Yeah, but that's the last part of the tour. If you're anything like how you used to be, once you're in there, you won't come out until meal time."
"Damn, you caught me. I'm going to guess that Cassandra's your mom?"
"She is! How did you know?"
"You look like her, your name, Casey, is her nickname. My guess is that your last name is Jones. You mentioned I call you Jr or Casey-Double J, so I'm guessing your full name is Casey Jones Jr."
"Have you always been so smart?"
"I have! Dad said when I was younger, I would throw tantrums, I still can and will, but him reading a book about something scientific would calm me down every time. Once I got older, I started to read more on my own and not just during tantrum. I've been keeping up on learning as much as I can."
Casey chuckled. "You used to tell me facts to help me fall asleep."
"That sounds about right." Donnie grinned. "How tall do I get?"
"So tall! I don't remember Major Raphael much, but Sensei Leonardo says that you were just a few feet shorter than him and he was almost fourteen feet tall!"
"I'm almost as tall as Raph?"
"That's what I've been told."
"What happened to Leo's arm?"
"You and him were going on a mission. You both got stuck under a dead Kraang's suit. You had to cut him out and get rid of his arm and he cut off your leg. Master Michelangelo carried you home with his mystics."
"Oh."
"But you made yourself and Sensei matching limps. Sensei said that you took a lot of inspiration from Major Raphael."
"I'm glad that I could keep his memory alive."
"That's all you ever wanted. Keep your family's memory alive."
"Do people tell you stories about them?"
"Yeah! My favorite one is when you guys pranked Major Raphael with Mrs. Cuddles."
"Chuckle, I remember that. Of course, Raph teamed up with everyone else to torment me after he learned it was my suggestion."
"It was?"
"Twas. It was worth it to me."
"I bet."

the way home
Tumblr media
A/N: This was just supposed to be a tiny blurb, but once I got started, I just couldn't shut up again. So here you go, my loves, here's 1.6k of pure friends-to-lovers fluff!
—————
You should have brought a jacket. You realize that the second you step out of the pub, Tom a few meters ahead of you and therefore unable to see the way you shudder when the cool air hits your skin.
It's just a short walk home from the pub, you'd told yourself, I don't need a jacket. God, you'd been wrong. Curse your past self for not trusting your instincts. It may be mid-July, and it may have been pretty warm when you left your flat earlier, but you should've known better than to not bring a jacket on a night out. You really should have learned not to trust the English weather by now. Tom doesn't seem to be struggling with the weather as he turns around to face you, but that makes sense. He's got a nice, pretty thick denim jacket on, and here you are, bare arms exposed to the elements.
"You ready to go?" Tom asks, nodding in the general direction of your flat. When you give him a nod back, he grins and offers you his arm. "Lead the way, miss." You can't help but giggle, your cheeks warming as you close the distance between the two of you and accept his offer.
"What a gentleman," you tease him, trying to ignore how mushy holding his arm like this makes you feel. As you start walking, you gently nudge him with your shoulder, making him look at you curiously. "Thanks for walking me home, Tom."
He merely shrugs, a small smile on his lips. "You don't need to thank me. I'm just making sure you get home alright,"
You squeeze his bicep. "Well, it still means a lot,"
It's not that this is the first time he's walked you back to your place from the pub after a night out together, but, usually, it's been somewhat of a group effort. Tom and the other boys, his housemates who you're lucky enough to call your friends too, would normally walk you home together, but, tonight, Tuwaine, Harry and Harrison seemed like they were only just getting started by the time you were ready to leave. So Tom had very kindly suggested that he could walk you home himself, and the lads had whistled and cheered at that - like the idiots they are. You told them off and called them dickheads, but there was no denying that your mind had gone to a similar place for a second too. It was just wishful thinking, though.
Tom is your friend. Just your friend. And yes, perhaps he's a friend you've been hopelessly in love with for months now, yet he's still just a friend. And yes, he calls you 'darling' and flirts with you, and he calls you when he's abroad, just so he can hear your voice, but that's just how he's always been with you. That's just how he is, really. It doesn't have to mean anything.
You haven't got very far when the cold begins to really affect you, every small gust of wind feeling like a thousand tiny icicles stabbing your skin. Granted, basically being snuggled up to Tom helps, his body quite warm, but it's not enough. So you can't help it when a violent shiver runs through you, making you hiss. Tom immediately stops dead in his tracks, unlinking your arms, and you're just about to ask him what he's doing when he gives you the answer without saying a word. He slips off his jacket and holds it out in front of you, and when you realize what he's implying, you have to protest.
"Oh, no, no," you say, shaking your head adamantly. "You'll get cold!"
"Well, you're already cold!" he argues and chuckles at the way you scoff at that. "And besides, I'd rather be cold than be an arsehole."
You know there's no point in trying to deny him. You know Tom, and you know he won't budge. So, with a sigh, you turn around and let him drape his jacket over your shoulders. A warmth spreads in your body, and you know it's not just from the extra layer. The jacket even smells like him - that sweet mixture of his cologne and the shower gel he uses.
He smirks as you face him again, giving you a once-over. "You always look great in my clothes," That's all he says before offering you his arm again, and, absolutely fucking dumbfounded, you just take it. God, you complain to yourself, why must he say shit like that? Can't he see what it does to me?
Tom doesn't seem to notice, however, happily chatting away about something that happened on one of his walks with Tessa. You do notice how he seems to pull you even closer to him, though. It's just because he's cold. That's what you tell yourself. But then he pulls you so close that you're completely pressed against his side, and it just feels… different.
You look around, acutely aware that anyone could see you like this, but the streets seem fairly empty, save for a few late-night joggers and dog walkers. So you let yourself relax into Tom, enjoying how it feels to be with him like this. You can't keep yourself from imagining how it would feel to be like this forever.
It's not something you get to fantasize about for a long time, though. Because then you turn the corner onto your street, and you know your time with him tonight is running out. You hate that you'll have to let him go, your two bodies having basically melted together at this point. And when you reach your house, you almost whine as Tom disentangles the two of you. But, even then, he doesn't really let go of you, taking your hand in his. You feel the heat creeping into your cheeks when he steps a little closer to you, and you gulp as he squeezes your hand.
"I've missed you, darling," Tom tells you, exhaling shakily. "More than I think you know."
"I've missed you too, Tom," you reply, trying not to think too much about what he just said, but his words are already haunting you. "Probably more than you've missed me."
You don't know why you say that. The words just fall out of your mouth, your filter seemingly gone. His brows draw together in confusion as he takes in your answer, and then he shakes his head gently. When he releases your hand, you feel like you've really fucked up.
He tilts his head slightly. "What makes you say that?"
You shrug, willing away the tears forming in your eyes. "I don't know,"
"It's okay,"
"I'm sorry,"
"Don't be," Tom assures you, smiling softly. "But you're wrong," His hand comes up to cup your cheek, and when his eyes flicker down to your lips, it's like it really dawns on you what he's trying to say. "Because I've missed you so... so…" He leans in a little until his breath is intermingling with your own, and you're trembling in anticipation, your eyes half-lidded. "Much." As soon as Tom finishes talking, he closes the distance, and then his mouth is on yours.
You're not surprised, but you are a bit stunned - everything you've dreamed about seemingly coming true. And for just a second, you find yourself worrying that this is just a dream; that none of this is real. But it is. His scent filling your nose is real. The touch of his hand on your face is real. His kiss is real.
And then you throw yourself into it, your hands settling on his chest and your fingers grabbing the fabric of his shirt quite desperately. Tom sighs, contented, his one arm wrapping around you as he presses his lips to yours again, far less hesitant this time. There's no stopping the soft gasp that leaves you then.
It feels like your bodies can't possibly get any closer, yet you still find new ways to melt into one another. Your tongues begin to explore each other, and your hands start to do the same to each other's bodies. You can scarcely breathe, but you can't bear the thought of parting with his kiss. And if worse comes to worst, death by kissing seems like a pretty good way to go.
You arch into Tom when his hands travel down your back, and the movement knocks off his jacket that had been draped over your shoulders. You barely sense it, but there's an audible thud as it lands on the pavement behind you. That, you can't help but notice.
He chases your lips as you pull away, but he doesn't protest against the separation. You're both breathing as though you've just run a fucking marathon, and you can't even get out a few simple words to tell him what happened. You just loosely gesture to the jacket on the ground, a sight that makes Tom giggle.
He's the one who picks it up, and you're kind of expecting him to put it on again. He probably has to get back to the lads at the pub, you lament to yourself. But Tom doesn't move. He just stands there and looks at you, eyes dark as he takes you in. He's kissed you into a complete mess, and you're sure you must look like one too.
"I should get back to the pub," he says, but Tom still doesn't move. The grin on his face is more than enough proof to you that he doesn't want to go anywhere. "Unless… unless you want me to stay?" You know what he's really asking. And you do want that, of course, but you still pretend like you actually have to think about it for a few minutes, biting your lip as in thought. You give him a nod.
"I do. But on one condition," you bargain, smirking mischievously, and his eyes light up. "You have to kiss me like that again." And that's an offer he can't refuse.

chapter twenty - “collateral damage”
delicate masterlist
word count: 2k
synopsis: bucky and y/n deal with the emotional fallout of her departure from wakanda.
pairings: bucky barnes x fem!reader
warnings: mildly suggestive content, nothing explicit, 18+ readers please.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flight home was wretched. Sleeping on the jet was impossible. Every time she shut her eyes she saw his face. If her mind did somehow manage to drift off to sleep, Y/N dreamed of him and woke up trying not to rip her hair out.
"We can still stay in contact, right?" Bucky asked as they were walking back from the waterfall.
They had left their catharsis by the water, still upset, but now calmer and more logical.
"I don't think so..."
"What? Why? It's not like we don't have the technology to do it."
"I know, but.." Y/N trailed off, trying to think of a sensible excuse.
Obviously they could stay in contact if they wanted. But any kind of phone call would be able to be tracked or recorded. That, and she didn't want him to hang on to someone who betrayed him. She couldn't imagine the guilt she'd have hearing Bucky's "I miss you's" or "Baby doll's" from miles away, knowing she lied to him.
"You don't even have a phone..."
"That's an easy problem to fix."
"I know... I just think you should focus on the rest of your healing, and... you know, I'll have a lot of work once I get back...." she took a breath. "I don't know if it's super healthy for us to cling on to each other when it... may be better to move on..."
"Move on?"
"Yeah..."
Bucky stopped walking and turned to face her. They both stood still and he stared at her, confused, as if he was trying to figure something out. He knew her well. She was scared he'd see right through her.
"So let me get this straight. When you're here we can talk all the time and... plenty of other things. But when you're away we can't even call each other?"
"Bucky..."
"That's not all, is it?"
She sighed. "I'm just... worried... about- like-... getting in trouble. If someone overhears or tracks a phone call...What if someone finds out where the 'Winter Soldier' is and comes here to exact revenge?"
That was partly true. She'd never want anyone bad to find out where he was. But no one was tracking her phone calls; she wasn't really a person of interest. In all likelihood, it probably wasn't something she'd have to be terribly worried about.
However, if anyone overheard or saw Bucky on the phone, they'd know it was her, and she doubted anything she could say would convince them that she didn't tell him about the arm.
Or maybe no one would find out. She just didn't want to take the chance. The last time she took a chance, this happened. She wasn't willing to do it again.
He stared at her with dejected eyes. "You know you don't have to worry about me. I'll be okay."
She rested her hands on his forearms and laughed sadly. "Bucky, I don't think I'm ever not gonna worry about you."
He was already in her heart. She didn't think he could leave now.
He let his eyelids fall shut. "I really don't want you to go."
She closed her eyes as well and let her forehead rest against the top of his chest.
"I know. I'm sorry. I don't want to leave you either. But you're gonna do so well, even without me. And every day I'll wake up and think 'wow this man is sexy and has good coping mechanisms! I wish I was him!'"
In the midst of his sadness, she made him laugh. It was a despondent, quiet laugh, but she managed to lift his mood all the same - even if just a little bit. She'd always make everything better.
He gazed down at her, eyes heavy, and without even thinking about it... "I love you."
She looked down at the grass below her feet. "Buck..."
"I do. I'm sorry but I do."
She wrapped her arms around the middle of his back, pressing her face into the crook of his neck. He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her in tight, one arm up her back and the other cradling her head.
In the tiniest whisper, she let the truth flow out from her chest. "I love you, too."
The clouds provoked her, so peaceful and quiet, while her head was a big, loud mess. Y/N leaned her head on the window, glaring at them and wondering if she should've said what she did. That she loved him. Internally, she debated whether or not it would make things worse. But she wasn't going to see him again; she might as well have left him with the truth.
Time was lost to her. She thought she would be landing soon, but she couldn't be sure. She couldn't be sure of anything anymore.
-
Bucky sat at the lake - their lake - and just stared into the water. It felt so strange to him, that she was gone. One minute she was here and now he was just... alone.
It was so quiet. Too quiet. Of course being alone was quiet, but after Y/N left, the air just felt empty.
He wished he could talk to her. Whenever he was upset, all he wanted to do was talk to her.
"So, is this... d-do we say goodbye now?" he asked when they got back to his hut.
"Yeah..." she sighed. "yeah."
"Are you going back to Europe?"
"Yes. Belgium. Haven't been in my apartment in forever."
"Belgium," he wondered. "It's nice there. Safe. What are you gonna do for work?"
"Probably just continue where I left off on my research. Fancy brain stuff, ya'know?"
He grinned, proud. "My smart girl."
She looked around her, as if watching for something. Or someone.
"Buck, I think I have to go now."
"Just one more minute? Please. I wanna remember you like this. Not sad and crying."
Y/N smiled, grabbed his hands, and kissed his knuckles. Both flesh and metal. Because they were both part of him and she loved him. All of him.
Then, she placed both his hands on either side of her face. Softly she said, "remember me like this," before bringing their lips together.
He looked down at his vibranium arm, twisting his wrist to watch how the plates whirred.
Since the first moment he put it on, he had been using it to be gentle, loving, and affectionate. This arm was good. This arm wasn't used for death and destruction and violence.
With this arm he held her, kissed her, loved her. And now she was gone. And now it felt like dead weight.
— ONE WEEK LATER —
Whenever Bucky looked at his bionic arm he saw her. It began to make him sad.
His hair had been getting longer and longer. He could cut it now, now that he had two arms. But every time he tried, all he could do was stare at the arm and hear her voice in his head.
"That's your heart. That's you. You're all heart, Buck. You're so deeply, wonderfully human. All the way to your bones."
That was the first time he expressed real distress about missing a limb, he recalled. That was the first time they kissed. Funny how that transition was made, funny how she could remedy some of his worst emotions.
His days were boring and uneventful and nearly silent. He sat alone a lot. There was no laughter anymore, none of her laughter. There was no more holding, no more kissing, no more loving. The arm just felt... wrong? Like what it was born from had died.
-
In Belgium, Y/N felt incredibly uncomfortable. She knew she just needed to adjust to the change, after getting to used to life in Wakanda - life with Bucky. Her vacant apartment didn't feel as homey.
It had been, what, a year and a half? About a year and a half since she had been home. About a year and a half spent with Bucky.
Her apartment seemed so... barren. Void of life. And cold. She was used to the Wakandan heat. When she closed and locked the door behind her, she looked at the golden square that the sun cast through her window. It reminded her of that heat.
Y/N sighed, cursing her very own hippocampus for providing her with memory.
"God, I wish you had an AC in here."
She was in his bed. Well, she was on top of him, straddling him, in his bed.
"Is it hot or is it just you?" he joked, poking at her sides and trying to not pout at the loss of her lips.
"Ha. Ha," she rolled her eyes and brought her face back to his.
"Wait," Bucky said and gently pulled her face away to examine it. "You are a little warm."
"It's okay," she quickly tried to resume their previous activity.
"Hold on-" he got cut off as Y/N kept pecking his lips over and over.
"I have-"
Kiss.
"An idea-"
Kiss.
Lightly he pushed her shoulders away, nearly giggling. "Stop it! Just wait a second!"
Bashful, she conceded. "What?"
"Just-" he reached out and put the vibranium hand on her forehead, effectively cooling her down a bit. She closed her eyes and flashed a goofy smile.
"That feels nice."
Then, suddenly, he wrapped both his arms around her back and flipped them over so that he was on top. He smirked.
"Oh yeah, you just wait."
She hung her keys up and took a deep breath, absorbing the emptiness. This was her new normal; she just had to get used to it.
-
"I just- I don't really... I don't think I need it," Bucky tried to explain.
Want it, he thought. I don't want it. I can't stand to even look at it.
"You don't need it?" Shuri asked.
"Yeah, it-uh it takes a bit of getting used to and I think I just need a break. And I wouldn't want to damage it so... figured it's better with you."
He was better at lying than he gave himself credit for.
"Okay," Shuri accepted his answer and began to detach the bionic arm. "But you let me know if it's uncomfortable or painful anywhere so I can adjust it. Alright?"
"Alright. Thank you."
Finally he was rid of it- that cursed metal weighing down on his soul. Maybe now he could focus on other things. Maybe. It didn't seem likely...
However, as the days drew closer, it did make him slightly - only slightly -  less nervous about the trigger word experiment. Now he didn't have a weapon attached to him. Though he reckoned he was the weapon.
No. He wasn't supposed to think like that. He knew Y/N wouldn't want him to. He knew she would say something like, "You aren't what they tried to make you into. You're you and all HYDRA's awfulness can't change the good at your core. My Bucky. You're perfect."
He'd deny to high heavens that he was the farthest thing from perfect. Bucky had no clue how she could say such things. But her conviction never faltered.
Soon enough the day came. The experiment. All he could think about was how she was supposed to be there. He didn't want to do this without her.
But now, he found himself sitting at at a fire on some mountain with one of the Doras. It was dark and it was scary. He was scared.
"It is time," said Ayo.
Nevermind want. He wasn't sure if he could do this without her.
"Are you sure about this?"
"I won't let you hurt anyone."
He was still scared. He still didn't trust himself. But, staring into the fire, he thought back to a past conversation.
"You don't have to trust yourself. That's hard enough as it is and Hydra didn't make it any easier. You just trust me, alright? ... And I will not let anything happen to you."
Bucky didn't have to trust himself. He just had to trust her. Even if she wasn't here, even if she was on another continent, all he had to do was trust her. When Ayo began reciting the trigger words, that was the one thing thing he held onto. The one thing that kept him afloat.
His trust in her.

Childhood: a Kohrin oneshot
Tumblr media
Summary: Two teenagers sneak off one night to the beach, reflecting on their pasts. Despite the grim subject, Rin somehow always manages to make him smile. Kohaku x Rin oneshot
3,000 words
Childhood
Laughing, racing, tumbling, grinning. Gaped teeth, freckles, dirt between toes, teasing brothers, sunbathing, cool creaks, bare feet and squawking kappas. The scatter of petals and grass kicked into the air, the scent of campfires, sunflowers, crispy fish and cooking fungi. Assuring golden eyes keeping vigilance over her sleep, along with the steady rhythmic breathing of a two-headed dragon keeping her warm. These are all the things Rin chose to remember about childhood.
She remembered and kept them close, especially at night, gliding through memories masquerading as dreams.
In the years after travelling with the stoic lord and staying with Kaede at her village, her limbs had changed- becoming gangly, form lean and growing with burgeoning maturity. She'd adapted to her environment, forming strong friendships with her mentor and the Inutachi. However, despite her days being spent in quiet happiness, she couldn't help but notice a few things. A perpetual absence. A certain searching look in Sango's eyes whenever she glanced up from monitoring her three children to stare off into the trees.
Tossing and turning beneath the covers, Rin frowned in her sleep.
One person who remained elusive in both her dreams and the waking world was-
A crooning noise startled her upright, brown eyes flying wide. Stumbling from her futon and hurrying from Kaede's hut, she peered out into the night inquisitively.
From within the forest, she could see a faint orange glow peeking out between the trees. Tightening her sleeping yukata around her, Rin's lips pursed. She then stubbornly sought out the glow, bare feet padding over cool dirt.
She found him, as predicted, watching Sango's hut.
Kohaku stood, a little further along into his maturity than her. Even the dense shadows couldn't quite hide the changes in his height and features. Rin stopped the second he caught notice of her- a telltale wariness gripping him a moment before recognition painted his face.
"Rin," he said with relief, tone soon slipping into a resigned reprimand. "What're you doing out so late? You should be asleep."
"So should you," she smiled easily, rocking on her heels. She gave a wave to Kirara, who hopped onto Kohaku's shoulder after transforming into a small version of herself and mewling. "It's a strange hour for you to come back. Sango won't be able to greet you with a lively smile-" lively chatter broke off the second she noticed the older boy direct his gaze to his feet. "Oh… unless… you don't plan on staying long?" Rin murmured. Again.
For some reason, it was always the same with him. Lord Sesshoumaru's brief visits didn't bother her in the least. He barely had a connection to the village. But Kohaku? He should've been there, stayed there. She knew Sango missed him terribly but he barely made time to visit.
However, she didn't voice any of this. She'd done so before, and Sango's assurances never seemed to help him. Guilt continued to gnaw like an infected wound at her friend.
Rin observed his freckled face in the torch light, seeing the emotions swimming within vibrant brown eyes.
"You know I would if I could. But…" the silence of the forest swallowed up the remainder of what he wanted to say. Rin shifted her bare feet, drawing closer and taking his coarse, demon-slaying hand.
"Let's go somewhere."
"Huh?"
"I want to go to the beach," she said decisively, as though he had no say in the matter. Kohaku supposed he didn't when she got like this. "Come on, Kaede says the ocean air is good for you. Hurry, before everyone wakes up," Rin tugged on his hand.
Kohaku smiled slightly, giving in far too easily.
---
Kirara touched down on sandy shores an hour later, allowing them to slide off her back. Rin stretched and sucked in a long breath of salty sea air.
"Ahh! Now isn't that better?" she grinned.
Kohaku snorted and smiled good-naturedly, looking out at the black sea with a quiet, observing look. "I haven't been to the beach in a long time."
"Why not?"
Kohaku wandered out, boots crunching on pebbles until they were cushioned by sand, leaving moonlit footprints. "I want to say I haven't had time, but that's not true," he chuckled. "It just hasn't occurred to me to go. That I'd enjoy it."
At 16, Rin still didn't feel old enough nor wise enough to understand everything. She wasn't a firecracker like Kagome had been around her age, and she didn't see herself as a warrior like Sango. However, there were some things Rin knew how to do.
Following, Rin took his hand in passing, tugging to ensure he'd stumble after her. She walked right up to the shoreline, drinking in the dark, hushed atmosphere only broken by the sound of waves crashing against rocks.
"Take off your boots."
Kohaku blinked, raising a brow. His lips quirked, "you sure are bossy today."
Giggling, she wriggled bare toes into the sand- squealing when the cool tide rushed in and splashed about her ankles before drawing back. "You used to walk around barefoot all the time, just like me."
"When I was a kid," he reminded her.
"Are you implying something?" Rin huffed. "I'll tell Uncle Inuyasha you said that."
"No, I wasn't trying to say-" his hasty words cut off, noting her mischievous expression. Kohaku smiled and leaned down as though to take off his boots- suddenly thrusting his hands into the surf and splashing her.
Shrieking and gasping, Rin gaped with surprise- soon grinning viciously wide and leaping towards him. Kohaku quickly dodged. He began running, hotly pursued by the petite young woman. An unexpected noise rang out into the night. Boyish, happy laughter.
Earthy brown eyes widened and even as Rin sprinted, panting, she drank in the sound of Kohaku laughing. How strange, rare and wonderful it was.
Running fast and putting all her energy into her legs, Rin leapt at his back. Catching him around the middle, she collided hard against him.
With an undignified yelp from a demon slayer, Kohaku lost his footing, toppling gracelessly to the ground, kicking up sand. Giggling breathlessly, Rin spat some from her mouth and lifted her head.
"You went down easy. Are you sure you slay demons?" she teased, nestling against the warmth of his back.
Kohaku shifted, shaking sand from his ponytail and adjusting their positions so that they were facing each other, laying on their sides. He wiped his face, expression clearly trying to remain unaffected and firm- but breaking into a tender smile.
"You always do this," he mused quietly.
"Hm? I don't think I've ever tackled you into the sand before," Rin felt fairly confident about that.
"That's not what I mean, it's just that you always make me feel... something different. Something good."
"But we had that argument about how best to stew nettles the other day," she pointed out.
A chuckle escaped him, soulful gaze sober. "Even that felt good to me."
Tilting her head against the dry, soft dune, both fell silent. Despite being a chatter-box, Rin also knew when to be quiet and let him talk. Her hand inched out naturally for his, and Kohaku accepted it, grasping her palm in a way that made her feel secure and safe. They'd known each other for many years so some things came as easy as breathing. Other things, like talking about it, came slowly, painfully.
"Why won't they go away?" Kohaku murmured in a hushed tone for only her to hear. "The nightmares. The memories," his gaze shook. "I just want to stop seeing it every time I look at Sango, but its there, in the back of my mind. I don't... feel right being around my nieces and nephew."
"You're still scared you'll hurt them?" there was no judgment in her tone. Assuring him that Naraku was dead and gone didn't help. Kohaku was perfectly aware of that.
The young man ducked his head, lips thin. His larger, rougher hand in hers trembled. "What if it's still there?" he whispered. "The compulsion to hurt people. I could be living my life- I could marry-" his eyes avoided hers. "Have children, but then one day I hear his voice again and the memory is too strong to resist. I could do something awful."
Dark brows pulled together, heart-squeezing in her ribcage. She wanted to help so badly. However, there was nothing she could do but keep trying to assure him and listen. "Even if you hear him, I believe in you, Kohaku," Rin stroked a thumb over his scarred knuckles. "You'd fight it. You're getting stronger all the time."
He looked exhausted, running a hand through his hair and sighing. "I'm so tired of being scared," he mumbled, glancing wearily at her. "You're still scared too, aren't you?"
Her face lost its girlish innocence, becoming firm as she sat up. "I've told you before- I'm not afraid of you, Kohaku!" she insisted hotly. "I haven't been since I was 8!"
Kohaku shifted his muscular body, and it was times like those she noticed how much larger and different he'd become. She blushed slightly but kept her expression serious.
"I wasn't talking about that," he chuckled, gaze becoming gentle. Careful fingers minded some dark hair from her face. "Your nightmares. You still have nightmares about your childhood too, right?"
Rin blinked, feeling cold and releasing his hand to wrap both arms around herself. The brush of cool night air gliding over her skin suddenly felt a little too chilly.
A soft croon rumbled out seconds before Kirara's large form settled down behind them. Lustrous buttercup coloured fur bumped against Rin's back, and she nestled against the nekomata's side gratefully.
"We don't have to discuss it if you don't want to," Kohaku said with concern, leaning back against the demon as well.
Forcing a cheery smile, Rin shook her head. "I'm fine- I've actually come up with something that helps me sleep most nights now, and I thought it might help you too."
"What is it?"
Tilting her head back to gaze at the stars above, she smiled a little more naturally. "I think of all the good things in my childhood. Assuring golden eyes keeping vigilance over my sleep, along with the steady rhythmic breathing of a two-headed dragon keeping me warm."
Kohaku stared at her with no short amount of amazement. He swallowed and looked down at the sand.
"You're strong," he breathed. "To be able to separate all the good things from the bad."
"You can do it too," grabbing his hand again, Rin inched closer with an encouraging nod. "Tell me some things you remember. Happy things."
Kohaku blushed a little at her proximity and cleared his throat, thinking. "Sango. She was always there for me."
"What else?"
His eyes seemed to haze slightly, "Father…"
"Push through it, Kohaku," she murmured. "There was a time before all the bad stuff. Was he kind?"
Kohaku blinked, firm fingers squeezing hers as he came back to himself, exhaling. He chuckled shyly, "he was a little strict, but he meant well."
Rin shifted closer, resting beside him shoulder to shoulder, knee bumping his. Kohaku rested his head back against Kirara's soft fur and began recounting things long since buried. Things he hadn't thought he could remember or appreciate anymore. The guilt was there, it always would be, but it felt further away, replaced with a bitter-sweet tang.
"Practicing, running, training, laughing, chasing yellow nekomatas," he scratched Kirara's ear. "Butterflies, bare-feet, hunting- freeing rabbits from traps because I didn't want to see them get killed. Father yelling. Father's hand gently resting on my h-head," the words stumbled. "Playing, flower gathering, flying on Kirara. The smell of the blacksmiths. Sweat. Forging weapons. Sango snoring."
Rin gasped and giggled, watching as his fingers slid through the gaps between her own.
"Warming my hands on the brazier. Talking. Listening. Stories around the campfire. Demon slayers, family," Kohaku murmured, voice thick with memories. He closed his eyes, falling silent.
"You did really well," cuddling against him, Rin pecked his cheek.
Kohaku glanced down at her, "I haven't talked about that stuff out loud before. I didn't think I could anymore."
Grinning, she put her nose in the air, imitating Jaken. "Humph well, I am rather good at talking. Getting other people to talk is my speciality ~"
Chuckling, he nudged his free hand against her forehead gently, brown eyes incredibly warm. "Can we do this again sometime? There's probably more we can remember."
Blinking, Rin gentled and squeezed his fingers, "of course we can. Anytime, Kohaku. But you know… Sango might want to hear some of this too- when you're ready," she added quickly.
His face became a touch more guarded, which broke her heart. He was so afraid of hurting Sango again. For a demon slayer, the young man was heavily weighed down by empathy.
Rin touched his freckled cheek, "Kohaku?"
He shook his head slightly and gave a smile to show he was alright. "Never mind that. How'd you get to be so brave talking about this stuff?"
Humming, she let her fingers linger, dragging down to his jaw. It looked and felt strong beneath her touch. "I probably couldn't talk about it out loud if you weren't here. You make me feel brave."
Before her fingers left his face, her hand was caught. Kohaku pushed it back to rest against his cheek, tilting his face into her palm.
"Likewise," he mumbled.
Cheeks warming, Rin felt her heart stutter and thrum wildly in her chest. It was weird. Kohaku was so incredibly dear to her. She loved being close to him, but lately, butterflies just wouldn't stop fluttering in her stomach.
Seeming to sense her confusion, Kohaku released her slack hand and gently returned it to her. He then turned to his boots and began tugging them off.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm doing as you bossily suggested earlier," standing, he gave a small smile, offering a hand down to her.
Rin accepted it, following as he walked to the shoreline. Stepping onto the wet sand, a noise of surprise and shook escaped the demon slayer as the tide rushed in.
Biting her lip, Rin tried and failed to suppress mirthful laughter. "Did you just squeal?"
"No. You're imagining things," Kohaku grinned.
The ocean lapped around their ankles, slowly receding, before sweeping a fresh wave of cool, dark water against their skin.
Kohaku gradually adjusted, looking out at the endless stretch of ocean brightened by the moon. Rin breathed in a lungful of the fresh air, slowly relaxing with him.
The tired lines beneath Kohaku's kind eyes seemed to soften, not entirely going away, but his face appeared young once more, gaining a healthy glow.
Rin held onto his hand throughout. He was the only one she felt so strangely at peace with. Lord Sesshoumaru and Kaede were protective presences, but neither really knew her, or her secrets. No one understood everything that had happened in her life, though she'd divulged some things.
She'd told Kohaku everything. When the boys at the village whispered among themselves that she was strange, a shape-shifter, a hanyou girl in disguise, Rin would smile. Because they didn't need to know or understand. Kohaku accepted her oddness, an outlier himself. Perhaps they were Hanyou children in a way.
Like Uncle Inuyasha, they didn't quite fit into human society. They were too strange. Too changed, different because of what they'd seen and experienced, never quite meshing despite their best efforts to.
But that was alright.
She'd asked Uncle Inuyasha about it once, Lord Sesshoumaru in their presence. Inuyasha had met Sesshoumaru's gaze, voice gruff.
"Well, there was no place for me, so I had to make one for myself, and then I realized, I had a place, but I was the only one in it."
Lord Sesshoumaru had seemed quiet and considering of his words.
Rin understood. Gazing at Kohaku right then, she felt he would too. The two humans who had died too young. Kohaku was part of her space, and she was in his.
Catching her eye, he smiled. Just as naturally as holding hands, he leaned down and rested their foreheads together. Rin let out a whoosh of hot air, lashes fluttering shut. The press of his head against hers felt intimate and sweet.
Slowly, she opened her eyes and shifted her head, lips inches from his, face burning. Kohaku's eyes cracked open wide, before gazing solemnly at her. He wrestled with something- and she thought he might pull away.
Kohaku then snuffed out the rest of the distance between them, lips pressing against hers in a chaste kiss.
White-hot feeling burst within the young woman like shooting stars. Butterflies turned into hummingbirds. Her lips burned.
They pulled away, both avoided each other's gazes a moment, reeling. They then caught one another's eye and slowly, shyly smiled. Because they were still the same, just a little different from before.
"Let's go back to the village," Kohaku murmured, noticing the first hues of sunlight brightening the horizon. "I think… I'll try talking to Sango."
Rin nodded, smiling with palpable relief.
He glanced at her, expression remaining vulnerable, fragile heart laid bare for her to see. Kohaku trusted her to handle it gently.
"And Rin?"
"Yes?"
He blushed slightly, squeezing her hand. "Let's come back to the beach sometime soon."
Rin's face burst into a wide grin, giggling a little breathlessly.
"I'd love to!"

Ghosts chp 23
Another shorter chapter, some of Riley and Steve being adorable, things are taking a turn with Katrina
Tumblr media
Steve's POV
Mid July
I strode into Riley's Apothecary, a brown to go bag clutched in my hand. One of the other girls that ran the shop with Riley was out front dealing with customers. She looked up when the bell above the door chimed and smiled at me before holding up one finger. I nodded and took a seat in the pillow covered windowsill near the door until the girl had finished and the customers had left.
She leaned on the counter with a sigh, "now what's a girl got to do to find herself someome like you? Shake down a leprechaun?"
Tris had moved here from Louisiana when she was a teenager and had been Riley's best friend ever since. She had bleach blonde hair shaved close to her head, contrasting her dark skin and a thick twang. A sharp face and apparently a sharper tongue when you crossed her. I'd only ever seen this bright, happy side of her and I planned to keep it that way.
I stood up, scratching the back of my neck as a blush heated my cheeks, "oh come on, we know I'm the lucky one here with a girl like Riley. Is she in the back?"
Tris nodded, "she'll be happy to see you. Had a rough couple days, the poor thing."
"Is it okay if I steal her for the afternoon?"
"Bring me a coffee in the morning?"
I smiled as I moved around her, "thanks, Tris. You're the best!"
I found Riley in the back room, cursing as she hung up the phone.
"Bad day?"
She looked up at me, shocked, "Steve?"
I held up the bag, "I brought grilled cheese, from the place you like."
She stood up, a tired smile on her face and crossed the room quickly, "with fries?"
I raised an eyebrow at her, "onion rings. I thought-"
Riley's hand was gentle on my arm as she pulled us close together, "just testing you."
I smirked and leaned down to kiss her softly.
"Thanks for bringing me lunch, Steve. I didn't even realize what day it was, I've been so busy. I haven't even been spending much time with Katrina, I feel so bad, she's just cooped up all the time by herself."
I crumpled the napkin in my hand and tossed it in the garbage before standing up with a hand extended towards her.
"Come on, let's take your mind off it for a while."
"But the shop-"
"Already taken care of," I assured, "I owe Tris breakfast tomorrow."
Her shoulders relaxed as she let out a long breath, "thank you."
"So what's got you so down?" I glanced over at Riley as we walked down the street.
She sighed, "we haven't found anything yet. The people we've reached out to either don't know anything or don't want to get involved. They act like Katrina's just...gone."
"And what do you think?"
She looked over at me, "I don't know...I mean, there has to be a way to get rid of Neil. We just haven't found it yet."
I nodded slowly, "and what if there's not?"
"She could die."
--
"Steve, something's...off."
I set down my coffee to hold my phone tighter and gave Billy a worried glance across his living room. Both our phones had multiple missed calls from Katrina last night, we'd tried to call back but there was no answer. We met up after work, trying to figure out when one of us could go to Salem for Katrina to make up for not being there this weekend.
"Off how?" I asked, pressing speaker on my phone so Billy could hear too.
"Katrina, she was so upset last night. Just, I knew she was really struggling but I had promised Tris...I should've stayed, I just was stressed and needed a night y'know? I left her phone with her but-"
"Riley, what happened?" Billy demanded.
She took a deep breath, "I don't know...she's, Steve, she's like a zombie."
--
"Katrina? Hey, wake up," Billy snapped his fingers in front of her face.
She didn't move, didn't flinch, just stared straight ahead with glassy, unfocused eyes.
We had raced here after Riley's phone call, calling out of work for the next couple days as we urged the time to go by faster. It was almost dark by the time we got to Riley's house. I checked Katrina's vitals as soon as we got there, all normal. Everything seemed normal, except she was totally unresponsive. It was like the lights were on but nobody was home.
"She's been like this all day?" I turned to look at Riley.
Audrey walked into the room with a small glass of water, "yeah, we woke up and came to check on her and she was just..." she handed the glass to Billy, "here, tip her head back. Can't let her get dehydrated."
He nodded, cradling the back of Katrina's head in one hand and pouring a small stream of water into her mouth. Her throat worked, swallowing the liquid, but she made no other movement.
"What do you think happened?" He asked.
Audrey shrugged, "she might have just...given up? Or someone we talked to said-"
Riley cleared her throat, shaking her head at Audrey.
"What?" I looked between them, "someone said what?"
Riley chewed her lip for a moment before murmuring, "someone said best case is if he kills her she could end up brain dead."
I choked, "that's the best case?"
She nodded slowly, "worst case, he kills her and keeps control of her body."
Billy grit his teeth, jaw clenching before standing up, growling, "there has to be something else, some way to get her back," and storming out of the room.
--
Billy's POV
"Mom, I don't know what to do. I can't let him take someone else I love."
The metal of my Camaro was cool against my skin where I leaned against it. I tipped my head up to the sky, letting a curling plume of smoke out of my lips. Watched it dance in the air, slowly disappearing into nothing. Felt tears escape, trickling down my cheek.
"I don't know how to help her, mom...maybe he was right, I am weak."
I heard crunching steps on the gravel behind me and turned to see someone on the other side of my car. A girl with bright white hair stood, watching me.
"I'm sorry," she smiled, "I wasn't trying to eavesdrop."
I wiped the back of my hand across my cheek and looked down at the driveway, "it's okay, not like she can answer me anyway...it was stupid."
She came around the car, leaning against it next to me, "your mom?"
I nodded.
"Did it make you feel better?"
"Kind of."
A kind smile pulled at her lips, "then it wasn't stupid, was it? She might not be able to talk back but she can hear you. She knows what you're going through."
I smiled a little, "thanks.."
She returned my smile and extended a hand to shake, "name's Tris."
--
August
Steve was sitting on my couch, having finally given up and let Pudge attack his feet. Pudge was rolling around, growling and pawing at Steve's toes until finally he bit down on the sock and started to pull.
"Why?" Steve huffed, pulling his foot back, "do you even know how many pairs of my socks you've destroyed?"
I smirked, "he likes you."
He rolled his eyes at me and was about to say something when his phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
He jolted to sit up, "seriously? When? ..fuck...I-okay, we'll figure it out."
He hung up and looked at me.
"What? What's going on?" I asked.
Pudge managed to wrestle the sock off Steve's foot and trotted away to hide it.

More Than Enough
Part 9 of So Happy Together
part 8
Note: theres a song that kind of inspired the name and closing lines. it always reminds me of friendship and how important it is. its called all that we get by first aid kit. give it a listen if you wanna get the vibe this chapters giving off!
Tumblr media
   The next morning was much the same. You woke up. Got ready, and headed for your first class. On your way to the first period of the day, you ran into Hux and Phasma. Phasma gave you a big smile and waved you over. You jogged across the lawn holding your skirt down so nobody got an unnecessary show. Once you reached them they both said hello and asked you to walk with them.
“Y/N i was wondering if we could sit together first period. Last night reminded me of how much I love being around you!”
“Ummm, of course, I forgot how much we clicked too, i feel like I haven't been a very good friend.”
“I can assure you i've been just as bad. I never reached out to you much either.” she said gently, placing her hand on your shoulder as you all started walking.
“I can testify that Phas, is indeed, a bad friend.” Hux teased. It was weird seeing him so relaxed, you figured it was a perk of being his friend. Ever since that morning at the diner you always saw a less serious version of him. Once you had reached the building where your first classes were held, Hux announced that he would have to be on his way to reach his class. You all said goodbye as you continued walking with Phasma. Once you stepped through the building doors you saw Ben leaning against a wall. Someone was with him, but not just anyone. It was Rey, you should've known she would have dug her claws in quick. He turned over to you when his smile dropped. You gave him a small wave when he said something to Rey then walked away. She looked over at you and began charging towards you.
  Phasma had noticed the change of your facial expression. You could tell she was about to ask you something when you felt something ram into you. You fell back and dropped your bag, all its contents spilling out. You looked up and saw Rey looking down at you.
“I see you're still a clumsy little shit, guess some things never change, huh?” you watched as smiled, turned and walked away.
Phasma bent down to help you gather your things, “she's still a bitch to you after all these years? Some things never change I guess.”
You could tell she was making fun of what she had said, but you were too hurt by Ben to focus on your cousin. Once everything was in your bag phasma stood, and held out her hand to help you up. You took it and stood up. While you fixed your skirt the bell had gone off. Great now you were late on top of everything. You both ran to your class and the professor had been waiting outside.
“Ladies, might I ask why you're late.” Miss Sloane was intense, she almost scared you. Before you had a chance to answer phasma spoke up.
“I'm sorry professor Sloane. The hall was crowded and we bumped into someone and our things fell. It won't happen again. I promise.” who would've thought that she was charismatic. You saw Sloane turn towards you.
“This is your first tardy in the 3 years youve been in my class. I won't count it this time.” she stepped out of the doorway allowing you both to enter. You rushed to the back table where there were two empty spots and sat. you went the whole class not speaking, trying to avoid further trouble. Near the end of class everyone had finished up early, and Sloane had decided to give everyone free time. That's when phasma asked the dreaded question.
“So. What happened out there? That guy looked at you and your whole mood changed.”
You leaned closer to her so nobody could hear your conversation. “That was Ben solo.”
“I don't see how that's relevant to you looking like your soul had been crushed.”
  You took the time to give her a brief summary of the situation. She gave you a sad look when you told her about the kiss, and how he was your first kiss.
“Oh honey. That sounds so beautiful, why do you think he's acting like this all of a sudden?”
“I don't know, but it hurts. He seemed like he really liked me. What sucks is I have to see his brother a lot, and he knows about it. What do i do if he asks about me and him again?”
Her face twisted and she looked thoughtful for a second. “Is his brother Matt?”
“Yes.” you replied.
“Now that i think about it. I see it. Anyways, if he asks, tell him the truth, maybe he can tell you what is going on.”
  The bell rang dismissing you to your next class. You slowly got up, not wanting to go back out. In fact you wanted nothing more than to go back to your dorm. Hell, part of you wanted to run to your grandfathers. Your perfect attendance kept you from it though. As you walked out she invited you to sit with her and Hux at lunch. You told her about the project with Matt and she informed you that he sat with them anyways. You never noticed who hung out with who until now. You reluctantly agreed, and you two went your separate ways. You went to your next class, which was one you hated. You had somehow gotten into calculus. You have no clue how you sucked at math, but the worst part was you had it with Rey.
  You walked in and noticed you had gotten there before her. You took a spot in the back, hoping to be ignored by her. Soon everyone had arrived, but her. You had a moment of relief, before the door opened. She walked in and after her came Ben. Perfect. Professor Windu asked about the man behind her and she had informed him that he had been moved into the class. The professor welcomed him and asked him to introduce himself. When he stood at the front of the room he looked around. You tried putting your head down, but you knew he had seen you.
“Uhh, im Ben. Ben Solo. This is actually my last year in school, so it's kinda pointless for my parents to move me here, but here I am,” you looked up and you had looked him right in the eyes. “Guess it could be worse though.” you remembered those words. He said those exact words to you. It could be worse. It felt almost dirty hearing him say it again in front of a crowd.
  He kept his eyes locked on yours as he took his seat next to Rey. you hated this. You hated it with everything in you. This was going to be excruciating. Not only did you have to be in a room with someone who made you absolutely miserable, but you had to watch as she threw herself all over the guy you liked. You tried your best to stay focused, but it was hard.
Once more you heard the bell and you waited until Ben and Rey had walked out before moving towards the door. A couple more periods went by and eventually it was your lunch period. You made your way towards the cafeteria waiting for someone from your group to arrive so they could show you where they sit. After a while you decide to text Matt and ask about where they sit. Once you were told you made your way over. On your way there you came face to face with Rey, and what a surprise, Ben. she made a face at you before bumping into you again. You looked at Ben with sadness in your eyes. All he did was shake his head and follow after Rey. You watched as they sat with her friends. Poe, Finn, and Rose. you had known them well. You all were friends at one point, but in this school it was all about money. The more money you had the cooler you were. To put it in polite your parents were filthy rich. They could sell their business’ and there would be enough money to last until your kids were in their teens. There were a few things about it though. You didn't like that social system, and you didn't like flaunting your wealth. Rey on the other hand. Her mother, your father's sister, had married super rich. A Palpatine. They were old money, not new money like your family. Rey loved letting people know she was richer than them. It was like a personality trait to her.
  You walked over to where Matt, Phasma, and Hux were sitting. You tried your best to forget about the whole day and focus on your project, and friends. You couldn't help but look over at Ben every now and then. He looked sad. Meanwhile everyone around him was talking, almost ignoring him. You decided to try and reach out. Just to gauge if there was still something there. You sent a text to him asking if he was alright. You hit sent and watched carefully. You watched as he took his phone out and read the message. He looked up at you with his phone still in his hands. Looking you dead in the eyes he put his phone back in his pocket, and jumped into the conversation that everyone at his table was having. Okay. that hurt. That hurt more than anything, more than seeing him with rey in the hall. More than him being rude that first day. This was a new hurt. This. This was a heartbreak. You felt the tears welling up before you were pulled out of your thoughts when Hux had put his hand on your shoulder.
“You alright?” you looked up to see your friends watching you as tears fell down your face. Phasma looked at where you had been looking. She looked right at Ben with a look of anger on her face.
You quickly gathered your things. “I'm sorry, I'm not feeling well, i've gotta go.”
  Your run out, having to pass by Ben's table made you cry harder, but you didn't care who saw. You ran straight for your dorm tears streaming down your face as you went. As soon as you got there you ran in throwing yourself on your bed. your body wracked with an onslaught of sobs. You cried hard, and you cried loud. If you could guess it wasn't just because of Ben, it was the pain of being ignored by someone else. You're always ignored by the people you want most, and you were growing weary of it. You had only ever wanted your parents attention. Ben was the only other person where you desperately wanted his attention. He had given it to you so easily, and just as quickly he had taken it back. You eventually cried yourself to sleep.
 You woke up to the sound of knocking at your door. You weren't sure how much time had passed, but you got up and opened the door. Matt stood there looking down at you. You never noticed how tall he was until now. He walked past you into your room, and sat on the bed. You looked at the clock in the hall. Your last period was supposed to be starting now, why was he here?
“You left lunch pretty quick. You were so upset I was positive you weren't coming to class so I thought I'd come check up on you.” he said with a soft voice.
“Why? You're gonna get in trouble for skipping.”
“I know we don't know each other too well, but I like you, you’re so cool, and I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
   You stayed silent. Trying to find an excuse so you wouldn't have to tell him about his brother.
“Phas told me about Ben. he's an ass trust me Y/N nobody knows that better than me.” you walked over to sit next to him. As soon as you sat down you started sobbing again. He put his arm around you and let you cry. It was a while before he had said anything.
“Look, i can see how it would be weird to talk about it with me. I'm willing to listen though, if you want to sit in silence and cry, I'll let you do that too, but just know me, Phas, and Hux are all here for you.“ you hugged him and he awkwardly hugged you back.
“Do you think it was something I did?” you asked him.
“No. for sure no. If anything something probably happened, and he got scared. For as tough as he acts he runs at the first sight of emotions.” you laughed.
You sat up wiping the tears off your face. “I don't know why, I just feel so heartbroken over this. I've never felt this way about anyone.”
“Trust me I get the feeling. You never knew this, but I've had a crush on Elaine since like 3rd grade. I told her about it and she rejected me. She wanted to focus on school. I understood, but it hurt like hell still. She agreed to not bring it up to anyone because of how embarrassed i was.”
“How'd you deal with it?”
“I didn't have a lot of friends, but the few I did I kinda just hung out with them. It distracted me. I had them so everything was okay.”
You nodded and took in his advice. You had him. You had Phasma, and Hux. most importantly you had Elaine. You haven't been friends with them long, but a part of you knew that Hux, Phasma, and Matt loved you. You knew without a doubt that Elaine loved and adored you. You knew they would be there. You knew they'd help. Most importantly you knew it would be alright and that one day the pain that Ben Solo had caused you would all be a distant memory. All because you had them. What if this was all that you get? Now that you think about it. That was enough. That was more than enough.

Tumblr media
"About earlier. That kiss. I'm not trying to start anything. I'm— there's— I'm no good at relationships. It would only end up in a mess." I said. I sat down on the chair in my kitchen
It's true, I've had a couple of men along the way, the relationships almost always end in disaster.
And I don't know if it was me or them. It always felt like it was my fault, they were always sure to tell me it was my fault.
"What are you feeling?" He sat down in one of the chairs next to me.
"Confused."
"About what?"
"I really like you. And I want to know more about you. And I want to be your friend, I really do. But I can't be harboring feelings for you. And you can't do the same either. It would just make us miserable."
"So you're saying that you feel the same way, you just don't want to be with me? Is it because of what I am? Is it because I scare you?"
"You are the most kind and gentle man I've ever met. You don't scare me, not one bit. I just think we'd be better off as friends."
"I can't just make them go away. The feelings, I mean. It's not like I can just make them vanish. But if you wish to just be friends, then we shall just be friends."
"We've only known each other for two days, you know." I chuckled, I stare into his eyes.
"You should know I don’t like everybody I meet. I don’t trust just anybody. You’re different, I can sense it. I can connect with very few people and have this feeling like I've known them my whole life, you're one of those people. I feel drawn to you. You're magnificent and kind. And you're very beautiful."
"Will you protect me, Wreck?"
"Of course, Y/N."
"Will you always tell me the truth?"
"Always."
"Will you tell me your name? You’re real name?" He hesitated for a moment.
"You already know it. James. James Buchanan Barnes, but back then friends called me Bucky." A small smile crept up on his lips.
"I should've known! You said it so quickly, I thought you might've known someone with that name or your alias."
"Will you tell me some of the stories you've heard about me?"
"Well no ones knows much about you, the stories are very vague. Most of the towns whores say you've slept with them, took the bandana off when you did the deed, some said you had honey brown eyes and other says emerald green eyes. Said you kept coming back for more." I bit my lip as I tried to hold in laughter.
"That's odious!" He scrunched his face up and physically cringed. "No. I haven't laid with a woman in decades. It's crossed my mind many a nights, but, no. Never. I could never sleep with one of those women. Nothing against who they are, just wouldn't want to catch something."
My eyes widen at the last sentence and he laughed.
"Have you ever laid with a man before?"
My body stiffened at the question, he was blunt and straight to the point. But the question reminded me of something I tried to forget every single day. "Yeah. I have." I looked down to my hands that were resting on the table. I traced shapes on the smooth surface, trying to keep my mind from those formidable memories. "Did I upset you?" He asked. He leaned down trying to look at my face.
"No. Just, I've um, l-laid with one man, uh, it was a terrible experience." I look to the the ground where my feet were. "Did he..."
"Yeah. He did." I whispered. My whole body felt uneasy, saying the words out loud was torture for me.
I had gotten drunk one night and a man took me to his house, against my will. I woke up the next morning and didn’t know what had happened the night before and I was feeling incredibly sore.
As the months went by I remembered certain things, terrible, awful things.
"My darling, I'm sorry. We don't have to carry on with this conversation. I can't imagine how it's affected you." He lays his hand on top of my hand that rests on the table, causing me to flinch.
The only thing I can do is nod, and I barely manage to do that.
"You've shown me such kindness over the past two days. I appreciate that, I truly do. In return, if you would, I'd like to stay with you. To protect you, from the evil of this world. Only if you would allow it. If you wish for me to be gone, then I'll be gone within seconds. I can see a great friendship unfolding if you let me stay."
I stare at him in disbelief, "I'd love for you to stay, I do get lonely here by myself sometimes but wouldn't you get tired of me after awhile?" I chuckled. "I mean you'd get bored for sure, I'm not an interesting gal."
"That's not true. You're very interesting, you can read, not a lot of women around here can read, well back then at least. I don't know about now."
"Well I'm sure there are more women around here that can read. But enough about that! What would you like to do the rest of the day?"
Truth be told, I hate talking about myself or of any subject that involves me, call it an insecurity, but for me I just hate being the topic of discussion.
"Why don't we go back to the lake?" He said.
"Yeah sure! Do you want to go for a swim?"
"I don't have anything to swim in." His brows furrowed and his lips frowned. I can't lie, he looked really cute.
"I'll buy you something." I beamed.
"I can't let you do that." He argued.
I stood up from the chair and walked to the door.
"You need a new set of clothes anyways, you can't wear the same outfit you've worn for the past couple decades." I playfully winked at him. I walked out of the house, he followed behind me.
On the way to the shop, we talked a little bit about everything, the sea, the outlaws he stayed with for a bit. It's so easy talking to him. He doesn't make you feel inferior or anything close like that. Nowadays people are so egotistical if they have a silver spoon. It's truly disgusting.
We make it to the shop and Wanda greets us.
"Y/N! Good evening!" She flashed her beautiful smile. "And who might this be?" She asked.
"This is Bucky, a friend from Texas. He's come down here to live with me."
Bucky walks closer to Wanda and shakes her hand. "Pleasure to meet you, miss." She nodded, her smile widened. "Pleasure to meet you, too, Bucky."
I got a couple outfits for him, he was a very picky shopper, at the end we got him black trousers and a couple tan and white long sleeve shirts. Nothing too fancy, he said.
I packed the new clothes in my leather bag and bid Wanda goodbye, we made our way to the lake.
"Isn't it just beautiful?" I said, we sat down on the sand, I set the bag down in between us. "It is, I've missed the water." He let out a sigh and kept his eyes on the moving water. "Why didn't you ever come down here?"
"I did, every couple a years, I don't know why I stayed in the cemetery for so long. I felt like it was the safest place for me."
"Why is that?"
"Because the dead can't judge you."
"I'll never judge you, y’know." I grabbed his hand intertwining it with mine, I brought the back of his hand up to my lips, gently kissing it.
We sat in silence after that. It was a moment I'll never forget. The sun was setting, the remainder of the sun reflecting off the water, the muffled music from across the street inside the tavern, the sounds of nature.
"You know, this is my favorite time of the day. When everything is winding down. It's so peaceful, and the sun isn't too harsh, it's perfect. I call it late night Louisiana. Has a ring to it, don't it?"
"It sure does, sugar." His lips curved upwards into a smile. His smile. How have I never noticed how perfect it was? His eyes crinkle whenever he smiles. Why is his face so perfect? Maybe being with him wouldn't be such a bad idea...
"Do you want to become human again? Fully human, I mean. With no abilities."
"I'd give anything to be normal again. Anything." He withdrew his hand from mine and looked down to the sand. "Maybe we can visit the voodoo shop tomorrow, they have elixirs in there, we can see what they have. Nobody ever buys their potions and elixirs because of your story."
He shrugged and lifted his head back up to look at me. Sadness deep in his eyes, laced with longing. "What if none of them work?"
"Well, we'll find out once we get there, won't we?"
"I guess."
I hugged his torso, "Let's go to the tavern."
We both get up and dust the sand off of our bodies. I grabbed my bag and we were off to the tavern across the street.
Bucky and I go inside and he orders the both of us a beer. I catch Steve walking past the windows of the tavern. I jump off the bar stool and turn to Bucky, "I have to go outside real quick. I'll be right back." I run out of the tavern and holler for Steve.
He stopped in his tracks and turned around. I walk up to him. "Hey stranger. Did you buy that book, that Stark's Amazing Finds?"
"I did, why?" He raised a brow and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Well I was wanting to show Bucky what a walrus and a seal looked like. I was wondering maybe I could borrow it for a day." He scoffed and looked to the side, he kicked a rock with his boot.
"Why didn't you ever mention him to me?" Steve asked. "I guess I forgot to tell you about him."
"Y/N, we tell each other everything it at least that's what I thought. Why didn't you tell me he was moving in with you?"
"Steve, I just forgot. I'm sorry. Why do you care so much? It's not really a big deal."
"He said you were getting lonely livin all by yourself, why didn't you ask me to move in? I would‘ve."
He stepped closer. "I didn't think you'd want to live with me. You hate it when I talk about vampires. I can only imagine you getting frustrated with me everyday because I'm so focused on finding that damned vampire." I leaned against the outside brick wall of the tavern. I look up to Steve, he was up against the brick wall, staring at the water. The orange glow of the sun shone on his face, his blue eyes were even brighter, if possible.
"I would've learned to deal with it." He said, he turned his body towards me.
Nothing else was said. We were both staring into each other's eyes. He wanted to say something, I could feel it in my bones. “What is it?” I asked.
“I wanted to tell you something. It’s really important.” He started fidgeting, beads of sweat were on his forehead.
“Hey, you can tell me anything. You know that.” I smiled and intertwined our hands together. “Uh... Bruce is coming back into town.”
“Oh...” I let out a shaky breath, my heart was beating out my chest. It felt like somebody had knocked the wind outta me. “Do we know when he’s supposed to be here?”
“Sometime next week.”
“Next week?”
“Yeah, next week.”
“Is he— is he bringing...”
“Yeah. She’s coming too.”

Cheater -- Part 2
Pairing: Mob!Tom x Reader
Warning: Sexual harassment, violence
A/N: I wanted to get this out sooner but I've been so busy recently. So sorry for the wait
______
It had been three months since you caught Tom. Three months since you walked out on him forever.
You hadn't seen him since that day. You had been relying on Tom's money for so long, you had to stay over a friend's house until you made enough money to rent an apartment.
It had been hard, but you refused to go back to him. Leaving him had its perks. You didn't have to live in fear for his or your own life anymore, you got to focus on your education, and you got to fix old friendships you lost. Overall, you felt like a normal person for once.
But at the same time, you were in so much pain. The two of you were engaged. You were supposed to get married. You loved him, you didn't believe you could ever love someone that much again. He made you feel beautiful and loved. He was a drug that you had been addicted to, and at some points you believed the withdrawal symptoms would kill you. But you were strong, and you wouldn't run back to him.
Tom on the other hand had been doing much worse than you had. Nothing in Tom's life brought him joy. You were always the one to make him genuinely happy. So with you gone from his life without a single word, he had lost himself in his work. He gained more and more enemies every day because of it. The more money and power he gained was never enough, he was insatiable, craving something that would make the pain a little more bearable. And he found that one thing that made the pain lessen, was to make sure you were safe. He had you followed, had tabs kept on you every week. He knew everything. He even knew that you had gotten a little better from the break up every week while he continued to worsen.
Tom sighed, throwing the papers down on his desk and leaning back into his seat. Frenetic knocking sounded from his office door.
"Come in," Tom shouted, annoyed.
The doors swung open revealing one of his men. "Sir, (Y/N) was kidnapped." The man panted.
Tom's eyes widened and he stood up abruptly. "Go and get Harrison."
~~~~
(Three hours earlier)
You laughed at your friend who decided to visit you at the bar you worked at.
"You actually made him cry?" You laughed.
Your friend nodded her head, "Yeah, it was so funny. Like why be in a debate class and not be able to carry your own argument. He got so frustated he literally stood there and started crying."
"I'm impressed Liza-" You noticed someone sitting down at the bar. "I'll be right back." You said nodding towards the man's direction. She nodded back taking a sip of her drink.
You approached the man nonchantly. "Anything I can get for you?"
The man seemed a little strange, and it was hard to see his face since it was covered by his hood. He lifted his head glancing at your nametag. "Nothing right now, (Y/N)." He said as an unsettling grin formed on his lips.
"Um, alright. Just call if you want something." You hurried away. You felt your heart beat quicken.
You weren't stupid, you had met plenty of terrifying men while you were with Tom. The only question was if this man was part of a mob or just some creep.
"You okay?" Your friend asked as you approached her. "You look pale."
"I'm- I'm fine. Uh, so what were you saying before?"
~~
The rest of the night seemed to go by smoothly enough, about an hour after you spoke to the unsetting man he had left, making you feel much better.
It had gotten pretty late and unfortunately you were the one that was left to close that night. You finished wiping down the bar and all of the tables.
"So, Tom Holland, huh?"
You snapped your head towards the bar, your eyebrows furrowing. It was the same man from before. "How-?"
"That lock." He nodded towards the door. "Child's play. Now, I'm very interested in you (Y/N). Would never peg a girl like you to go around fucking men in the mafia. I see why he would fuck you, though." He said raking his eyes up and down your body.
You scoffed, and crossed your arms. "It was one man. And we're not together anymore so I can't help you with whatever it is you want."
"Oh, but sweetheart. I think you can." He said standing up.
A flash caught your eye and you found a gun hanging loosley from his hand. Of course there was a gun. There was always a gun.
He came closer and slowly began circling around you. You stood completely still. "You two were supposed to get married weren't you?" You nodded. "And it turns out Tommyboy is still in love with you."
You felt your heart jump. Of course you were terrified for your life, but Tom still had this power over your heart.
"Oh what's this? You're blushing. Do you still love him too?"
You swallowed nervously. "No, I hate him."
"Hm, I don't believe you-."
"What do you want? You're not really here to talk about my love life, so what do you want?"
"Ooh, okay, I think I'm starting to understand why Holland likes you so much. You're firey. But you're right, what I'm actually here is for leverage."
"Wha-?" But before you could finish, you felt the butt of the gun slam into your head and you were out.
~~
"She's pretty isn't she?"
"Keep it in your pants, that's not what she's here for."
"Yeah but still. Do y'think the boss will let us have a little fun with her before we have to kill her."
"Shut the fuck up and do your job, alright."
"Well he isn't wrong." A third voice interjected. "Holland was a lucky bastard."
You slightly groaned, as you blinked your eyes open, your head pounding. You lifted your head finding the three men that had been speaking, circling around you.
"Good morning, princess. How's your head?" You recognized this voice from the first man that had spoken. He was tall with black hair.
"Don't call me princess."
The two other men laughed. "I'm gonna get the boss. James come with me." The more serious one said before leaving the room with James leaving you alone with the black haired man.
"So you were really gonna marry Holland?" He asked, but you looked away from him and ignored what he said. "Tell me why a girl who seems so obviously innocent would go for a freak like Holland. Hm? Is it cause you like it rough, cause sweetheart if you like it rough, I can have you cumming in seconds."
"You're disgusting. I'd never let you touch me." You spat.
The man slowly started to approach you. Once he reached you, he gripped your chin pulled your face close to his. "Such a filthy mouth." He grinned in amusement. "Did Holland let you speak to him like that or do you like to be put in your place." He leaned in closer so his lips were by your ear. "I bet you're a dirty little slut betwee-"
"I wouldn't finish that sentence if I were you." An all too familiar voice said.
Both your head and the man's snapped towards the door seeing Tom and Harrison standing there covered in blood with raised guns pointed at the man.
The man stood up, "Holl-" but before he could finish both Tom and Harrison shot him dead.
"T-Tom?" You choked out.
"Shh, darling, I've got you." He said, walking over and untying you from the chair you were in. Once the tape was off, you pulled Tom into you, and hugged him tightly, despite the blood that was on him.
You hated him so much but you also loved him and seeing him after being kidnapped all logic left you. You cried into him as he held you tightly to him. You hated to admit how much you really missed him.
"Let's get you out of here, darling."
~~
You sat across from Tom in the back of his car. Harrison was driving.
Neither of you said a word, as you gazed out the window and as Tom took glances at you.
"...Thanks for saving me." You mumbled.
"Of course, da-"
"But just so you know. I still really fucking hate you."
Tom sighed. "I figured as much."
"How did you know where I was?"
"I...I've had some of my men watch you since you left."
You snapped your head towards him. "You what?"
"I had to keep tabs on you. I'm still in love with you y'know. And my business is messy, I wanted to make sure you were safe." You stayed silent understanding his reasoning. "...Just so you know, I really miss you princess. If it means anything, I haven't had sex with another woman since you've left."
You scoffed. "Nice to know you only have sex with other women when you're with me."
He sighed again and ran a hand through his hair. "Come on darling, please. I need you so much, please just come back."
"...You really fucked up Tom."
"I know, but it'll never happen again, it should've never happened in the first place. I was a fucking idiot. I love you so much, I don't know how to function without you and you're all I think about and it kills me that I don't get to see your beautiful face anymore. Please, give me one more chance."
You gave Tom a pained look. You were so confused. You sat in silence for a few minutes, thinking.
"Fine, this is how it's going to go." Tom perked up. "Basically, you destroyed the last five years we've been together. So if you want to get back together we're starting on square one again. Which means I'm not moving back in, we're not going to have sex for a long time, and we're obviously not going to get married anymore, until you can build my trust back."
Tom nodded, "Yes, please, I'll do anything you want."
"And Tom, I swear if you do anything to break my heart like that again, you will never see me again."
"I will never break your heart again. I can't live without you."
"Then... I guess we're back together."
He smiled widely. "I guess we are."
The One || Sam Winchester X OC
Tumblr media
I got out of the spirit's grip and salted it's remains. I looked for my lighter but couldn't find it. The spirit came at me once again so I shot it with a salt bullet. I disappeared for a second then it grabbed me from my neck choking me in the process. I was about to pass out when the body caught fire and the spirit was gone.
"Want this back?" a tall man with long brown hair said to me. I got myself together. He threw it to me and I caught it. "Sam" "Elena"
"So you're a hunter?" Sam asked as we left the building. "Yeah, I started five years ago, when I was twenty one." I said and smiled at him. "How did you get into the business anyways?" He asked. "I met a hunter once. He told me about this stuff." I said. I had no obligation to give details.
"Do you need a ride?" I asked him seeing there were no other cars there. "That would be great. If you want you can come to our motel. I'm staying here for a demon the ghost was an extra." he said.
"I'd love to come, it's been a while since I faced a demon. Do you mind catching me up on the news? And what did you mean by our motel?" I asked. "I have a brother. He's a hunter too and of course I'll catch you up."
With that I started the engine and Sam told me everything about them case. We had started chatting when we finally arrived. We got out of the car and what I saw startled me. A 1967 Chevrolet Impala.
We made our way to the door and knocked. I was even more surprised at who opened the door. I took a step back. "Dean?" "Elena!"
"You two know each other?" Sam said. "No, not really." I said as I stared blankly into Dean's eyes. "Let's go in." said Sam and we entered the motel room. I sat on one of the chairs and the two sat on their beds.
"So, she's a hunter?" Dean asked. "Yeah, she says she started five years ago." said Sam. I looked away when I saw Dean understand. He was the reason I started hunting. He told me about his job and all of it's dangers. Then he left me without even saying goodbye.
His disappearance pushed me towards the supernatural. At first I'd go to jobs hoping I'd run into Dean but after a few months I gave up all hope and stuck with the job. It was my life. Only thing that kept me together.
"How did you two meet anyways?" Dean asked separating me from my train of thought. "I was hunting a ghost when we ran into each other." I said and winked at Sam. He smiled. Dean didn't have to know Sam saved me.
"Why did you bring her here?" he asked Sam. It almost seemed as if he was angry at Sam for bringing me along. "Dean, we dont know what this demon is or even how many there are. We need all the help we can get." said Sam. "She can't help us."
"I saw her fight Dean. She's good." Sam said. Dean sighed. "If you say so." he turned to me. "Do you even know what a demon is?" It was clear he was trying to annoy me.
I didn't bother answering and started unbuttoning my shirt. "Whoa!" said Dean. I stopped at the fourth button and showed them my tattoo. "Pervert." I said.
"Nothing you haven't seen before Dean. You see I do know what a demon is. I've killed a few before too." I said as I buttoned my shirt.
The next few hours of daylight was wasted in the motel room searching for anything that'd indicate the demon was close.
Just when I was about to give up I saw an article online. "Hey check this out. Three people killed in their home and one missing." I said. "It's worth checking out." Sam said. "Where?"
"The next town. It's probably a thirty minute drive from here." I stated. We decided to go with the Impala so I left my car in front of the motel. Dean opened the trunk and I saw a bunch of weapons. "Nice touch." I added.
He was clearly annoyed. We got in and they made me sit at the back. Dean was eyeing me from the mirror time to time. "So who was the hunter that got you into this stuff?" Sam asked trying to start conversation.
Dean looked at me with panic in his eyes. He didn't want his brother to know. I respected his decision. "Gordon." I lied. Dean's face relaxed and he took a deep breath.
"I heard he's dead. Thanks to you guys." I said. "Sorry" said Sam. "He was an asshole. My hatred for him makes me a better hunter." Dean realised the words were aimed at him and he shot me a threatening look. "At least he's not around anymore." Dean said.
"Dean are you okay?" asked Sam. He must've realised Dean was tense. "Yeah I'm alright." he said. There was an awkward silence until we arrived at the town.
We found a motel and got a room with one king bed and a normal bed. That was the only room for three people. It was nighttime. "Guys have a good night. But not too good. Some of us want to sleep." I said playfully.
We'd start investigating in the morning. Every window and the door was salted.
I heard Dean and Sam fight over the blanket. Sam sighed. Dean had won. "Hey Elena, can I borrow your blanket?" Sam asked me. "Of course... not. You have to fight for it Winchester." I said.
He pulled onto my blanket but I pulled harder. He fell on my bed. Suddenly the lights got on. "What the hell?" Dean said half awake. "You should've given him the blanket." I said as Sam got off my bed. "For god's sake, go to bed you two."
Sam went back to his bed but I kept eye contact with Dean until he turned the lights off. We all went to bed and all of us slept this time.
I woke up at 5 a.m as usual. The boys were still asleep. I watched them for a while. All the good memories with Dean started popping up but I tried my best to stop it. I didn't feel that way anymore but I wanted closure. It all felt unfinished. I looked at Sam. He was so different. I had started to like him.
I was lost in my thoughts for about an hour until Sam woke up. "When did you wake up?" he asked me as he slowly made his way out of the bed, careful not to wake Dean up. "About an hour ago. When will sleeping beauty wake up?" I said. Sam laughed. "Not until eight. Wanna go for a walk?" he asked. "Sure."
We went out and started chatting. "So how did you start hunting?" I asked him even though I already knew the answer. Dean hadn't told me about his brother but he told me about his dad. Sam told me the same things.
"But I then decided to quit and go to college. I dropped out when Dean came and asked me to help him find dad. When I got back Jessica, my girlfriend was dead. The demon that killed my mother had killed her." Sam said. He sounded broken. I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Whatever, I took off and we've been hunting ever since." he said. "When was this?" I asked. "Five years ago." I stopped. Maybe that was the reason Dean had left me. Maybe, but it didn't matter anymore. "I'm sorry Sam." I said. "So here we are. You, me and Dean. He's not always like this. I don't know what got into him." He said changing the subject.
"I'm used to it." I said. We chatted for another hour and went back. It was now seven thirty. We went in and there was an angry Dean inside. "Where have you been? I've been calling you both for an hour. At least leave a note or something!" He shouted.
"Dude chill. What's wrong with you?" Sam asked. "Yeah Dean, what is wrong with you?" I added. "Just don't disappear again." he said and sighed.
We went out to get breakfast and sat down at the table at the back. "So, the victims were brothers. Kevin, Fred, Stephen and Paul Browngate. There will be a remembrance ball this evening at the Browngate Mansion. Perfect opportunity to search around the house. Who wants to be my date?" I said. The boys looked at each other than back at me.
"I have to go to the restroom. Nobody touches my fries." I got up and pretended to walk away but hid behind a column and listened to the boys. "You can have the girl this time." Dean said. "At least flip a coin." said Sam. "I don't want to. You go as guests I will be the cop."
I walked back to them. "So who's the lucky one?" I genuinely enjoyed messing with them. "Sam would be the guy." said Dean. I sat down and found my fries untouched. "You know Dean used to eat burgers everyday for breakfast for one year." Sam said. I laughed.
Sam and I talked while Dean just ate. It was really fun hanging out with Sam. He was actually really funny. We hung out at the restaurant for an hour or two because we had nothing else to do. When we finally got out of the restaurant the boys went back to the hotel and I went to pick up a dress . I found one pretty quickly and went back to the motel.
I went into the room and saw Sam fighting with his bow while Dean's was perfectly tied. "Glad to see progress." I said to Dean and Sam looked up confused. "Here let me help." I tied his bow. Dean stared at me the whole time. I wasn't even flirting, well maybe I was a little.
"Let me get dressed then we'll go. It starts at five." I said and went into the bathroom to change. When I got out the boys' jaws dropped. "Okay Sammy let's go." I said and took Sam's arm. Dean was frustrated because I was going to drive the Impala. He had to walk.
The mansion was huge and all the guests were looking classy as hell. The guys were clearly extremely wealthy which was probably why that many people bothered to come there. "You have the Holy Water?" Sam asked me. "Of course."
"Let's ask around if anyone knows something. We meet here in ten minutes and figure out a way to go upstairs." with that we parted and after a very dull ten minutes we were back where we started. "Nothing. None of the guests know anything. Some of them don't even know the guys." I said frustrated. It was the same with Sam.
"We have to find a way to go upstairs. They were all found in their bedrooms." said Sam. "Leave that to me." with that I left all my muscles lose.
  Sam caught me before I hit the ground. "Someone help us." Sam shouted and a security guard came and took us upstairs. He took us to the guest room. As soon as the guy left the room I got up. "You could've given me a head start." said Sam. "Where's the fun in that?"
"Come on let's go. You take the ones on the right. I'll go left." I said and we left the room. The first room I went into was covered in blood. The sheets and the floor were all blooded. It was clear the guy's throat had been cut off. I looked for traces of sulfur and found it pretty quickly.
I went into the second room. There was no blood which meant I was in the room of the guy missing. I looked around and practically the whole room was covered in sulfur. I looked at the guys photos. It would be useful when identifying the demon in case it possessed the guy. When I was done I went out and Sam was also finished. "Demon." we said in unison.
When we went back down we saw Dean. "What did you find?"  he asked.
"Sulfur. Everywhere. I think the missing guy is possessed. The victim's throats were cut and they all were probably asleep." I said. "What do you have?" asked Sam.
"Well the same things but the police think the missing brother killed the three." said Dean. "Our work is done here. Let's go." I said and we left.
Dean sat on the drivers seat and started kissing the steering wheel. "Did that evil bitch do anything to you?" he said. "Dean please." I said sarcastically. "Sam get in. Elena you walk."
I didn't need his stupid car. "Fine." I said and started walking. A few minutes later I felt a hand cover my mouth and everything went black.
I woke up tied to a chair. The missing guy stood before me. He had black eyes. "What do you want?" I said. "From you, nothing. From Dean Winchester, everything." he said. "You made a mistake.Dean wouldn't come looking for me." I said. The demon laughed.
"Dean won't but Sam will. Which means Dean will come too." he said. "What did Dean do to you?" I said. "He killed my sister. He'll pay for it." the demon said. I laughed. "Oh my God. A demon with feelings, how cute." I said. "You'll regret that."
He took out a knife and started cutting at my stomach. It was very painful but I tried not to scream. This went on for an hour or two. They really weren't coming. It was Dean, what did I expect? But Sam... I thought we had something.
Something broke inside me the same way it did when Dean left me. The pain of the cuts were nothing compared to the pain inside. I tried my best not to cry.
I had given up all hope when the door smashed open and the boys came in. Dean shot the demon with... the Colt? They had the Colt and didn't tell me. "I knew you'd come, after all you loved her." the demon said before it went back to hell.
Sam ran over to me and cut the ropes I was tied with. He carried me to the car. Sam and I sat at the back and he stitched my cuts. "I'm sorry Elena." he said. I put my hand on his face. I leaned in and kissed him. I quickly pulled away and mumbled a sorry.
He smiled and kissed me. It felt right. I saw Dean in the mirror. He was.. smiling? I looked away. There was nothing between us anymore and I was happy that we both knew that.
We went back to the motel and I was able to stand up. "Elena, Dean... Why did the demon say that?" Sam asked us. "It's a demon Sam. Demons lie." said Dean. I looked at him. "He deserves to know the truth." Dean sighed and then nodded. "Dean was my boyfriend. He was the hunter that told me about this stuff. He left me five years ago." I said.
Anger filled Sam's face. He was furious. We should've told him from the start. He took the car keys and ran outside. I tried my best to run after him but couldn't. The stitches hurt too much. Dean ran after the car. I watched from the door as Dean tried to catch up with the car. Soon the two were nowhere to be seen.
A recked Impala pulled up to the front door. Dean was inside. I ran out and got in. "Sam crashed. He's in the hospital." Dean said and started driving. "Dean I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I cried. "It's not your fault. It's obvious you like him." he said.
Soon we arrived at the hospital. We ran in and they took us to a room where Sam laid unconscious. I sat down while Dean talked to the nurse. He came in and sat across me. "Elena  I never meant to hurt you. I just wanted to protect you." Dean said. I looked at him in understanding. "I know. I heard what happened to Jessica. I wouldn't come back if I saw that too but you couldn't keep me out of this stuff could you?"
"I guess not. I still love you just not in the same way. Sam is a good man." he said. "I know. Thank you Dean." I said. Sam woke up about fifteen minutes later. I ran to his side while Dean stood over his bed. "I'm so sorry Sam. We are just friends. There isn't anything between us anymore. Sam you're the one I want." I said.
He leaned in and kissed me. "Go get a room you two." said Dean. We all laughed. I stuck around with them and we continued hunting together.
