Willy Wonka SFW Alphabet

Yes I wrote for Willy Wonka leave me alone. He’s the entire reason this blog exists to begin with.

The timeline isn’t really set so this could all take place before the contest or after. But it’s implied that you met long before the contest.

I tried to keep it gender neutral. It’s also not proof read because I don’t want to do that lol. Enjoy.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Willy isn’t a very touchy person and he isn’t very good with words so he would show his affection through small acts of service or gifts to show that he appreciates you and is always thinking of you.

After being with you for a while he would start to tolerate little touches.

Please be patient with him. The physical affection will come with due time.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Willy is a very introverted man. He didn’t have many friends as a child and once he set out on his journey to become a chocolatier he didn’t have time to make any friends. You could say the Oompa Loompas became his friends and while he does value, appreciate, and care a lot for them, it’s mostly a boss and employee type of relationship.

However you somehow came into his life and declared yourself his friend. Like some friendships, there are ups and downs, pros and cons. But you both get over them soon enough and once he really accepts you as a friend you become as thick as thieves.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He’ll only cuddle you once he is fully ok with your touch. He’s not totally reject full of touch, he just doesn’t like strangers touching him. Once he gets to know someone they start to find out how touch starved he really is.

He won’t be clingy but he would be a tad disappointed if you moved away from him.

He’d probably be the big spoon most of the time but please let him be little spoon sometimes.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

He’d only be content with “settling down” once he is 100% certain of handing his legacy over to his heir. Once Charlie is old enough and experienced enough to run the factory himself, he’d be ok with settling down. Don’t expect to leave the factory tho. That’s his home, he would never want to leave it. Plus he’d want to be there for Charlie if he ever needs help.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

The only reason I could see him ending a relationship with someone is if their personality just didn’t fit with his or if he felt like his lifestyle wasn’t enough for his partner.

If he felt like you deserved a better life than spending it inside a factory and being away from him most of the day then he would encourage (more like gently force) you to leave and find someone better.

It would be hard for him, since once he likes and trusts someone it would be really hard for him to let them go. He doesn’t want to hurt you but he wants what’s best for you and if that means leaving him then he’ll learn to cope.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Willy doesn’t really see a point in marriage other than getting to call his partner his spouse and the tax benefits.

He thinks that if he’s been in a relationship with you long enough he should be able to call you his spouse if he wanted to, ring or not.

However if you wanted to get married and have a wedding he would do it, just promise him it’s gonna be a very small intimate wedding.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Sorry to say this but in the beginning, he won’t be very gentle emotionally. He’s used to being alone and he doesn’t like to fight but he’d end up coming off as a little insensitive to your feelings. He doesn’t mean to, he just gets so busy and stressed that you won’t be his top priority for a while.

Physically though, he’s not rough with you what so ever. He doesn’t want to hurt you.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

As stated before, he’d have to know you for a while to be comfortable with hugs. The longer he knows you the longer and more often the hugs are.

At the beginning of him getting used to your touch he’d prefer quick side hugs but much later one he’d lovingly accept a full hug.

He wouldn’t like surprise hugs as much. He’d tolerate them but he’d much prefer to know it’s coming.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

It would take Willy a LONG time before he could actually say the words. He likes to show his love through actions rather than words. In fact he may not ever say it. He would just assume you know that he loves you based off his actions. If you want him to actually say it you’d have to tell him. But be prepared for the conversation to be deflected, something about you mumbling.

He doesn’t like talking about his feelings so please don’t rush him and understand that he may never say it. But he does love you, you just have to see it rather than hear it.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Oh he gets jealous alright. He has never had someone love him the way you do and he doesn’t want to let that go.

He’d try to stay calm, he trusts you but he doesn’t trust the other person. He’d be silently seething, pretending not to notice but his grip on his cane has become increasingly tighter and his jaw is set firm.

Even if he trusts you, you may have to reassure him a bit.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He’s only been kissed once before you. It was when he was younger. He didn’t initiate it, it caught him off guard and he wasn’t very pleased.

Kissing you was different though. Like everything else, it took him a while to do it. It only started out as small pecks until he was comfortable with a full kiss.

He enjoys kissing you but he would rather keep it private and won’t kiss you around other people, not even the Oompa Loompa’s. He’ll allow you to kiss his cheek in front of other people but that’s about it.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

I mean…we’ve all seen the movie. He only tolerates kids if they’re polite and well mannered.

I do not think he would want a child of his own. He’s too busy and he would fear he’d end up like his father.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He gets up early. He’s got a whole factory to run you know.

If you’re a morning person: he would enjoy the time you share getting ready in the morning. Willy is the kind of person to shower in the morning, he’s too tired to do it at night. If you shower in the morning as well then you’d probably shower together. Don’t expect anything naughty to happen tho.

If you’re not a morning person: he’d try to be as quiet as possible to let you sleep in. He won’t let you sleep in too late but he’ll let you get a few more hours in. Before he leaves he’ll give you a kiss on the head.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

He’s usually exhausted at the end of the night. So much to do when running a factory and inventing new candies. Sometimes when he’s close to a break through or he’s on an “inventing high” as you like to put it, you have to force him to relax and go to sleep before he over exerts himself.

If neither of you are planning anything…naughty…then you’d both do your night time routines together. Be prepared to be waiting a while for him, his night time routine can be long.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Willy is a very private man. He doesn’t like talking about his childhood or his father and if you try to bring it up he will deflect immediately.

He will start to slowly open up to you more and more over time but it’s hard for him to do. He becomes very vulnerable. He doesn’t like thinking of his past when he has everything he’s ever dreamed of in the present.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

He surprisingly has a good amount of patience. He can get ticked off easily but to make him really angry is hard.

You would need an insane amount of patience with him as well. He won’t show physical affection for a long time, he probably won’t talk about you to other people (he’s very private), won’t open up for a while, won’t be around you a lot, and he may come off as insensitive to your feelings sometimes.

He means well, and he does love and care about you. You just have to be patient.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He remembers a surprising amount of things. He’s used to not having a notepad when he has a new idea so his memory has gotten pretty good.

He’s good with remembering little details but he’d be awful with dates and names. Everyday is the same for him so he doesn’t bother checking the date. So he may forget a birthday or anniversary of yours. Please don’t be too mad. He’d make it up to you.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

His favourite memory is probably when he first showed you around his factory. He loved how you lit up with wonder with each new room you saw. He also loved how you treated the Oompa Loompas so well.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

He’s not super protective but he likes to be safe than sorry. He’d rather you stay in the factory, he trusts you to not do anything stupid, plus he knows the Oompa Loompa’s would watch over you. They adore you as well so there’s no way they’d let you get hurt or lost.

However if and when you do decide to leave the factory for a while he’d rather you go out the back. The front is too obvious and he wouldn’t want you to be affiliated with him in public, lest you be hounded by nosy nelly’s. He trusts you, he really does. But he probably would send an Oompa Loompa to secretly tail you just in case. They are small enough to go undetected by the public, but you know. You recognize those footsteps behind you. You can’t be mad at Willy. You understand he just wants to make sure you’re safe. It’s one of the ways he shows he loves you.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Willy doesn’t like to half ass anything. However, don’t expect lavish dates or gifts. He may be hella successful but he’s humble as well.

Most dates would happen around the factory and I wouldn’t doubt that he’d have the Oompa Loompa’s choreograph a song and dance for you. Any gift you’d receive he would make himself, he loves giving you new candies to try. It’s his way of letting you get involved in his work.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

If he’s really engrossed in something, he’ll unintentionally ignore you. You could be talking to him and he’ll be like “uh huh” “sounds nice”. He doesn’t mean to, he’s just very invested in his thoughts.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He’s very vain. He has a whole room just for hair cream. It was made specially for him. Did you see how critical he was of his hair cut? He had a whole head of brown hair and one gray hair freaked him out.

His skin is also always so smooth and soft. His night time routine is so long cause he’s doing skin care.

His clothes are always so clean and neat.

He was very self conscious as a kid, especially with that damn contraption on his head. Now he takes so long to make sure he’s looking and feeling his best.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

When Charlie first declined his offer, he went on a spiral and felt like shit and he barely even knew the boy.

But if you left, he’s sure he wouldn’t survive (he can be quite dramatic). He’d try really hard to keep going, but he’d miss you. He’d miss waking up next to you, seeing you interact with his workers, seeing how your face lit up every time he showed you a new invention. He missed everything about you.

As we know, if Willy isn’t feeling good, his candy won’t taste good. I wouldn’t be surprised if his sales declined. Maybe they’d get so bad he’d have to shut down the factory (again).

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

He’s surprisingly good at drawing. It would make sense that he could draw landscapes and scenery considering he had to have drawn the blueprint for Prince Pondicherry’s castle, his factory, and all the rooms inside. But what’s surprising is he can draw people as well.

Many times he’ll find his thoughts drifting away while drawing a new blueprint for a new candy or perhaps a new room and when he finally snaps out of it he notices he’s drawn you. He gets embarrassed but he never throws away any of them. But he also hasn’t shown you. He’s much too embarrassed about that.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Someone who’s all around rotten or selfish. He’s a very generous man so don’t take him for granted. Don’t expect a sugar daddy or anything. He won’t spoil you, but sometimes he may spoil you a tiny bit on special occasions.

He’d also want you to have good hygiene. He’s a very organized and clean man. He doesn’t want someone who’s messy and dirty. (All the depressed bitches punching air rn, I know, I am too lmao)

Also if you don’t like candy or chocolate what the hell are you even doing with him? His whole life revolves around it so he’d only want someone who enjoys it at least a normal amount or as much as him. It’s ok if you don’t like certain candies or chocolates, he understands not everyone will like everything but if you hate all of it? Nah.

Also, have you ever seen how a pet will act aggressively or scared with a certain person but you’ve never seen that person be mean to the pet? It’s the same with the Oompa Loompa’s. He’s very connected with them and can read their body language very well. If you disrespect them when he’s not around, he will know and he won’t stand for it.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

This man is a DEEP sleeper when he’s exhausted. And he’s exhausted a LOT. The only thing that can wake him is his alarm. Have fun trying to wake him yourself. And if you do manage to wake him up, he’s one of those people that wake up scared.

He’ll have the occasional nightmare. If you can’t wake him up (you probably shouldn’t anyway) just reach over and hold his hand or rub his arm, it will calm him down.

He’s also a slight sleep talker. You can’t hold conversations with him but he’ll mumble out some sentences here and there. You’ve caught your name a few times.

Okay, in public or in front of like literally anyone, he’s not super affectionate. He’s still nice to you and will occasionally reach for your hand in front of other voltron members. He just doesn’t like PDA very much. He doesn’t like the attention it draws to him. Behind closed doors tho…omg this boy is like so clingy. He just wants to hold you for the rest of his life, you’re so nice to hold. He likes to show affection physically rather than emotionally. He’s kinda dumb when it comes to this romance relationship stuff, he has a hard time explaining his feelings so he’d rather show you how much he loves you with hugs and kisses and cuddles and gentle touches.

You guys had to have clicked right away when you met. I’m sure Keith is difficult to befriend let alone date so he probably really enjoyed your company and support as a friend to keep you around. He probably felt really safe and at ease with you, like he could be his true authentic self around you. You guys really lean on each other. And because he feels so himself around you, you fall for the purest version of Keith, the real Keith. And he falls for your loyalty and kindness and faith in him.

KEEF LOVES CUDDLES WITH U OMG. Like I said, he’s emotionally constipated and has a hard time voicing his love for you so he shows it instead and due to your busy schedules, you only get alone time at night before bed and early in the morning if you’re both up before your alarm. So every night before you both doze off and every morning about an hour before your alarm goes off, he’s stuck to you like a koala on a tree branch. It’s the best couple hours of his entire day, everyday. He will cuddle you in any way he can. Yes and no. Keith definitely wants this war to be over and he wants to go home and have a normal life with you but he’s also never going to give up on helping his friends protect the universe. But he does occasionally daydream about you and him living together somewhere in the desert or the country maybe where there’s not a lot of people and it’s quiet. Keith is a mess in the kitchen, please keep him away from the stove. He can help you cut stuff up or make the salad but other than that, he’ll burn everything and anything you ask him to cook. Cleaning on the other hand, he can do that. Just imagine this…Keith wearing old scrappy clothes with his hair pulled back by a headband or bandana and he’s deep cleaning your whole apartment/house with those big yellow dish gloves on. Omg hes ur housewife. Sure he can be messy and disorganized at times too but he’ll roll up his sleeves and deep clean when it’s obvious it needs to be done. If Keith had to break up with you, I seriously feel like he would still want to be your friend. As much as Keith blows up and loses his temper, the break up would be soft and slow and gently. He wouldn’t want to lose you completely so he’d ask you to be his friend still. So things didn’t work romantically…it’s fine, just don’t leave him behind. He still has love for you. He’ll always care about you.

Keith ain’t the marriage type. He’s just one of those people who thinks marriage is stupid and pointless and too expensive and dramatic. He doesn’t need a big fancy ceremony or a piece of signed paper to prove his love for you. Screw it. He’s gonna call you his wife/husband/partner/spouse no matter what anyone else says. If you really want to get properly married tho, he’d agree and go along with it to make you happy. But he’d be in charge of the guest list…which will only have like 10 people on it bc he also doesn’t like crowds or big parties.

Physically, he’s so gentle with you. He’s always worried he’s gonna hurt you or make you uncomfortable. He holds you so tenderly, he kisses you so lightly. Keith spends most days fighting off training bots, sparring with Shiro and often engaging in battle with an actual enemy. When it comes to you, he treats you like a one-of-a-kind piece of stained glass. You’re the one person he’s soft with. Emotionally…he’s stubborn and short tempered and easily overwhelmed. He’ll snap at you every now and then, he can’t help it. He’s never mad or annoyed with you, it just comes out in his voice and his gestures are harsh as he speaks to you. He tries very hard to be patient and understanding with you. He’s really trying. Give him a break plz.

Keith loves your hugs, it’s one of the most comforting things you can offer him. He likes to hug you a lot, he’ll just randomly hug you throughout your day. But when he’s upset or frustrated or feeling stressed and scared, he’ll hug you really tight and for a while. He’ll just hold you close, arms wrapped fully around your torso as he hides his face in your neck or shoulder. Hugs make him feel so much better, they remind him that he is real and has feelings and that someone cares about him.

I think Keith would wait a while to actually say it to your face. He would be really nervous and wouldn’t want to rush things or make you feel like you have to say it back. In the meantime, he often slips the phrase to you sneakily and without grabbing your attention first. He’ll mumble it to himself after you finish a good round of training with him and he’s glowing with pride at how amazing you are. He’ll whisper it softly when you fall asleep next to him. He’ll mouth the words as he hugs you tightly, imagining how the words would sound if you said them back to him right now. He just needs time…

Keith gets extremely jealous but not all the time. He sees you talking to some cool alien or even joking around with Lance, he’s whatever about it. He trusts you so he’s not worried. Now if another galra tried to approach you, oh boy is there gonna be a fight. It’s just a galra thing, he feels that they are more of a threat bc he is also part galra. One time, another member of the blade was standing just a little too close to you and Keith didn’t know what he was saying to you but he just had a bad feeling about it. But he wasn’t trying to flirt with you at all, he was actually asking about Keith and how long you’ve know him, just small talk. Keith stomped over and straight up pushed you behind him, glaring at his teammate in front of him. You had to explain that it was all innocent chit chat and calm him down. Yeah, he’s dramatic asf when he wants to be. He’ll kill a bitch for you, no hesitation.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Kisses with Keith are always soft and slow and lingering. He doesn’t move at a fast pace, even when making out. He takes his time and enjoys it and cherishes the moment. He’s also not sure exactly how to kiss so he goes slow and follows your lead. It’s not often that you two kiss, only in the privacy of your room when you both know you won’t be interrupted or occasionally you’ll share a lingering gentle kiss in the hangar in front of the team after a long and scary mission. Keith loves kissing your lips, he likes that he can feel you kiss him back. He’ll kiss your cheeks and forehead sometimes but he craves the feeling of your lips returning the gesture, ya know? He really likes when you kiss pretty much anywhere that’s not his face. Kiss that boy on the shoulder, neck, back, hands or arms and he’s a flustered mess. He’s so awkward omfg. He is kind of on the fence about kids. He likes them but he’s unsure how to act around them. He mostly just listens to kids ramble about stuff and he smiles and nods along and offers the occasional “oh really? Wow. That’s crazy.” He would like a kid of his own one day but not anytime soon. He needs time to learn and mature before he has his own kid.

Pretty much every morning with Keith is spent the same way…he’ll wake up earlier than the alarm is set just to cuddle and love on you before you have to go about your busy day. This (and at night before you guys fall asleep) is the only time you two can really spend quality time together. Fighting in an intergalactic war leaves very little time for you two to hang out and bond. So he loves sleepy, early mornings with you where neither of you talk, you just hold each other and place soft kisses on each others face.

Nights go pretty much the same way as mornings. The first hour that you two are awake and the last hour or so before you two fall asleep is spent in silence while you just hold each other close and cherish the moment. You don’t get much time to be clingy and romantic so bed time is the best time. He’ll plop into bed with you and wrap you in his arms as you’re both dozing off.

👀 boy has a very short temper and gets very easily annoyed and over stimulated. He’s definitely snapped at you before and he will most likely snap at you again. He’s always quick to apologize and try to explain himself. He just loses it sometimes, there’s a lot going on and he has a hard time coping. He’ll bottle everything up and stay quiet until it all boils over and explodes out of him. He snaps at pretty much anyone and everyone, don’t take it personally. He’s even yelled at Shiro before. He’s working on it tho…he swears.

Both??? He’ll definitely forget things every now and then, sorry he’s got so many thoughts in his head at one time, sometimes the things you tell him go in one ear and out the other. BUT he does remember a lot about you too. He’ll never forget the gorgeous color of your eyes and your favorite food and your favorite color. So, this was originally just an art idea I knew I wanted to do later, and when I saw what the first prompt was, it automatically came to the forefront of my mind. That, plus with the idea I eventually got for the second prompt, I really just had to. I actually probably could’ve gotten this done in a more reasonable time, but, see, when things are just an idea, I don’t put too, too much thought into them—only enough to consider them neat or substantial or something.

When it actually came to it, I found myself at a dilemma of just how faithful I wanted to stick with Orihime’s confession. Originally, I thought about incorporating the five specific things she mentioned into different past lives, but then I realized the timelines wouldn’t really make sense with what I was going for, especially considering Soul Society and stuff, which I had not thought about. So I kinda had to choose between previous lives or parallel lives. I initially went with the latter, but… idk, last minute, like the week of, I decided after checking the prompt list one more time that, nah, I definitely wanted previous lives. So, uh… yeah… I might still end up making a parallel lives version of this in the future, ‘cause I did like those ideas, too. We’ll see.

Anyway, I did try to make them at least somewhat reminiscent of the five things: Orihime and Hikoboshi are related to the astronaut thing ‘cause of space and stars and stuff. Heian Period IchiHime, well, it’s a bit of stretch, but I couldn’t really fit donuts in here since the timeline between them and the introduction of ice cream and the current timeline would’ve made one/two of these lives tragically short without even factoring in Soul Society—nothing wrong with tragedy, but not for this post, haha. So I went with small Chinese cakes ‘cause they’re a sweet? And they’d definitely be a very rare and special treat, so… idk.

Shinigami IchiHime’s also a bit of a stretch? You’d think I’d have the easiest time with being a teacher sometime in history, but I ended up sticking it here, and I was adamant I wanted to draw them in their academy days. Oh, God, I have so much to catch up on… which I will do later. You can pull an instrument out of a box and get on with some instant music making. I carry a mandolin around wherever I go. I also like the fact bluegrass musicians play more than one instrument. There’s a tradition of them swapping instruments. In bluegrass bands I swap between double bass, fiddle and banjo.

They haven’t asked me! But doing the string arrangements for that album was a great experience, actually. They sent me the demos of their songs, and we went into a studio in Atlanta, with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Oh yeah, I was pissed off about it. The surprise was in not being told. It’s ancient history now, but it was a bit annoying to find out about it while reading the papers. It came just after Robert and I had been discussing the idea of doing an Unplugged project. Then I’m on tour in Germany with Diamanda Galás, I turn on the TV and see Robert and Jimmy doing it, with someone else playing all my parts! I was pissed off at the time. You would be, woudn’t you? But… it’s all in the past, isn’t it?

Did you listen to much work by Josh Homme or Dave Grohl before you were contacted in relation to joining Them Crooked Vultures, and if so, how did you honestly rate it? (Ralph Ryan, Lisronagh, County Tipperary)

I did like the Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age, before I’d met either of them. There’s a tendency for people – especially musicians from my generation – to say that there has been this terrible decline in musicianship, that today’s bands haven’t got the chops, blah blah blah. But that’s not true at all. There’s always some people for whom technique on an instrument isn’t necessary. They can get their ideas across without being able to have the chops. But Josh really does have the chops, he just doesn’t feel the need to flash them about all the time. In fact, there were a few riffs he gave me that I had to simplify, because they were bloody difficult to play. I really had to work at it, where he could just flick it off. He is an astonishing musician.

Were you serious when you told Peter Grant that you wanted to jack it in to become choirmaster at Winchester Cathedral? (Brian Fisher, Manchester)

Ha! That was a tongue-in-cheek joke, although I was serious about leaving Led Zeppelin in 1973 unless things changed. But Peter did sort things out pretty quickly. What kind of choirmaster would I have made? A bloody good one! Listen, any way that they’ll pay you for making music is just the best situation in the world. I’d do it for nothing. I don’t care what music it is. I just love it all. The rubbing of notes together. I love it all. I would be very passionate about whatever I decided to do.

What was the worst session you ever did as a jobbing session player? (Adam Burns, Castleford, West Yorkshire)

I generally have fun memories of that time. I’d criss-cross London playing two or three sessions a day, going between Trident and Olympic and Abbey Road and Philips in Marble Arch, you know. You’d be backing Shirley Bassey, Cat Stevens, Lulu, whoever was paying you. The worst experience was a Muzak session. With Muzak sessions, the music was deliberately boring. I distinctly remember one session where I embellished the bass part a little bit, just so that it wasn’t so boring for me to play. They said, “No, you can’t do that. Any interest in the music will distract people’s attention from when they’re meant to be eating.” Or standing in a fucking lift. For fuck’s sake! So I was like, “OK, thanks, bye!”

Will catches Dustin’s eye in the rearview mirror. They shared a similar silent reaction to Mike cutting off the music. Should he be worried? Will was only just getting to know Mike again. Overall he mostly seemed like an older version of the guy he used to know once upon a time. But there were almost fifteen years of bitterness that had kept them apart, so Will would be kidding himself if he really thought he knew him well enough to know better. It actually made him mad—mad because it was his own damn fault for becoming such a stranger to Mike. And Dustin wasn’t exactly wrong, Mike was acting a little off today. He started to notice it right after the burial service at the reception, but he brushed it off because it also made total sense to him—his sister had died and they literally just buried her. How else is he supposed to act? If it had been Jonathan, Will imagines he wouldn’t be acting much different at all. What Mike needs is time—time to process the loss. He’s bound to act a little ‘off’. Right?

“‘Course I don’t exactly know what else to expect from him…I mean, I’d probably be a little off too if Jonathan had died—maybe even more than a little off, actually.”

They both finally start walking towards the bar.

“True...I suppose…it was just a weird vibe I got.”

“Weird vibe how?” Will asks.

“Not sure. He seemed…I don’t even know—I’m not exactly best friends with him anymore—”

“And I am?”

“Hey, from my perspective, you two seemed all patched up and act like you’ve been friends this whole damn time—also another vibe I’ve been getting, by the way—I only meant that you’ve spent way more time with him the past few days compared to me, so I was curious about your opinion.”

After crossing the street Will stops walking, then Dustin stops too. “Well, l don’t have much else to compare it to…he’s still Mike, he’s…I don’t know what I’m saying—what I mean to say is, it’s been a long time. And what I do know, I could fit in the palm of my hand compared to what he’s lived through without me for almost fifteen years. I’m sure he could say the same. Why did that sound like a bunch of excuses? Because it was the truth. Will didn’t know everything. Which again stirs up an unpleasant feeling in his chest.

“Right…you’re right,” he sighs, “but I’m glad you both are friends again.”

“Yeah, me too…I really missed him—way more than I wanted to ever admit,” Will laughs. “But don’t tell him that though—it’ll go straight to his head.”

Dustin mimics the turning of an imaginary key over his mouth, then pretends to throw it over his shoulder.

Will uses the opportunity to change the subject as they start to inch closer to the door. “So…you ready to sing?” And then he reaches for the handle.

He groans. “Would saying ‘no’ would change my fate?”

“Nope…” Will opens the door, allowing Dustin to enter first before following him in. “It wouldn’t…you’re doomed.”
