Masterlist // Eddie Munson Masterlist
Eddie slides his body out from underneath the car he was working on, wiping his black, grease-stained hands on the rag that hangs from the back pocket of his coveralls. He’d stripped the top half off, tying the sleeves around his waist, leaving him in his white vest as he wiped the sweat from his brow.
Motörhead’s ‘Ace Of Spades’ rumbles out from the old radio sitting on the workbench, and the clanking of Randy working on another car outside in the yard all fall into the background as his attention is diverted by his sweet girl walking into the garage.
“Hey! You forgot your lunch this morning!” you beam brightly as you hand him over the brown paper bag.
“You’re an absolute peach, you know that?” he smiles, kissing your cheek.
“Also I popped a few of the cookies I made yesterday in there, because I know they’re your favourite.”
“You made snickerdoodles?!” he beamed brightly, his eyes widening in surprise as he quickly opened up the bag to see the sweet treats sitting inside .
“Only the best for my hard-working handy-man.”
“Thanks Sweetheart! I’ll see you back at home later, yeah?”
you wave him goodbye with a cheery smile and a cheeky wink.
“Bye Teddy, I love you.”
“Teddy, huh?” Randy nudges him in the arm with a scoff. “Who knew you had such a soft side?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be fixing that old Pontiac?” Eddie fixes him a hard stare.
“Only for you, Teddy.” Randy teases him with his best put-on sultry girly voice that his deep southern drawl can manage, before laughing on his way back out to the yard.
Tumblr media
Eddie pushes through the door with a tired sigh.
“Honey I’m home!” he calls out in the way he always does when he comes home to you.
You rush over to him, immediately wrapping him in a tight hug, which he welcomes whole-heartedly, picking you up in his arms and twirling you around.
“How was work?”
“Good, it was a nice surprise to have you come visit me” he murmurs as he presses a kiss to
the crown of your head. “Those cookies were delicious by the way.”
“Oh I’m glad you liked them. I had a day off so I thought I could make them to surprise you!”
“Well consider me surprised, Sweetheart.” he smiles, pulling his long dark curls free from the knot tied at the nape of his neck, raking a large hand through his hair with a quick ruffle. Having his hair as long as it was meant that whenever he was working it had to be tied back, something about safety regulations or whatever, so when he came home he liked to take the opportunity to let his wild mane free.
“I’m gonna take a shower, and get changed, then we can order takeout? How does that sound?” he asks, as he makes his way to the bathroom.
“You read my mind.” you giggle, settling yourself into the comfort of the couch cushions.
Tumblr media
Freshly showered and changed into a pair of red and black plaid pyjama bottoms and a soft grey Henley, Eddie slumps his body down on the couch next to yours.
“I picked up a film from Family Video for us to watch this evening.” you smile, snuggling up to his body, the all too familiar and welcoming scent of his body wash filling your senses. You flicked the remote and the bright light of the television illuminated the cosy living room.
It didn’t take very long for the film to go utterly ignored in favour of slipping your tongue between Eddie’s lips and tangling your fingers into his messy curls, earning you a low groan as you gently tugged against the dark strands.
Pulling away from you with a knowing smirk playing at his pink, kiss-bitten lips, Eddie looks down at you before speaking. He wants to tease you a little, see what your reaction would be.
“I was thinking it was about time that I got a haircut, was going to ask if you’d do it for me, y’know, since you’re the professional and all.”
Eddie tries to suppress his giggling amusement when he sees your reaction.
Your eyes wide in shock, and your mouth opening to say something, and yet nothing comes.
“Just chop off all this long hair. Would be easier at work too, wouldn’t have to keep tying it back.” he says, awaiting your reaction, watching as your eyebrows draw together in confusion..
You gather your thoughts just enough to form a sentence.
“I don’t think I can do that, Eddie. It goes against my beliefs as a well-respected hairdresser, and as your girlfriend.” you explain with a laugh. “You know I love your hair. Where else am I supposed to tangle my fingers when you go down on me, huh?” you murmur,  your lips close to his,  before leaning in once more to kiss him.
“Good thing I was only joking then.” he laughs in that adorably boyish way that makes it oh so hard for you to be mad at him.
“I can’t believe you would joke about something like that Eddie!!” you join in on the laughter, playfully hitting him with one of the cushions on the couch.
“How about, as a recompense for being the target of my joke, I get down on my knees for you and you can show me how much you love my hair, hm?” he offers, his voice dropping to a smokey gravel, as he presses as reassuring kiss to your lips.
You flush under his words, but still you nod, eager to feel his lips on your body.
“Yeah, is that what you want Sweetheart?” he murmurs softly as he sinks to his knees in front of you. “Want me to make you feel good?”
A breathy whine of ‘please’ falls from your lips, and that’s all the go-ahead Eddie needs before he’s skating his hands up your thighs.
“Lift your hips up for me.”
You comply with his wishes, raising up enough for him to hook his fingers into the waistband of your pyjama shorts and panties and drag them down the length of your legs in one swift motion.
“There she is…my pretty girl…I've missed her…” he almost purrs out when he's greeted by the sight of your pussy. “You, and I have a lot of catching up to do.” he smiles, his lips curling into a salacious grin.
He kisses his lips to the soft pudge of your stomach before he trails down nosing into the thatch of curls between your legs.
He smiles against your wet slit, his tongue slipping past his lips to drag slowly across your folds. Flattening his tongue against you, licking up the essence of your arousal.
He's moaning deeply as he pushes into you as close as he can, wrapping arms around your plush thighs, and throwing your legs over his shoulders.
He quickly flicks the tip of his tongue over your clit with practised precision, before sucking it between his plump lips in a way that has your back arching up into his touch.
It isn’t long before he feels the familiar tangle of your fingers into his hair, tugging the dark strands as he continues to lap at your wetness. Tugging gently at the roots of his hair, directing him right where you need him most.
“Taste’s so fucking sweet, pretty baby..” he slurs out his praises, his tongue never stopping it’s relentless endeavour. “You want one of my fingers?”
“Please..Wanna feel you, Eddie, please..” you beg breathlessly.
He continues to lap at your wet cunt like a man starved, slipping one of his thick fingers into your tight wet heat, pressing against that spot that has your thighs shuddering close around his face.
“That’s it Sweetheart..so fuckin’ pretty like this I swear..” he teases, his voice a steady growly as he fucks his finger into you.
“..C-close..” was all you could stutter out, before Eddie was doubling down in his efforts to please you, sliding one more finger into you, and crooking them inside you so perfectly.
He’d happily been in this position many times before, knew all the tell-tale signs of your impending high, and with one more flick of tongue over your sensitive clit you were riding out your release against his face, clenching around his fingers with a wet gush.
He drinks you in, gently lapping over your clit as you come down from the euphoria of your shuddering orgasm. He pulls away from you, his mouth glossy with his spit and your slick juices lingering on his lips.
“So, I was thinking we could order pizza tonight?” he says as though he hadn’t just given you the best head of your life.
“Yeah,” you sigh with a soft breath. “W-we can get pizza if you want to.”

Love untold
Part 1
A/N: I honestly have no clue how to write a part 2 for the bang chan fic. I’m gonna yolo it and see what happens ||| Ok so… I’m sorry… to everyone’s soul. I’m probably about to crush it a little. Now, I did the song shuffle and I got *drumrolllllssss* 24 TO 25!!! Love that honestly ||| I did try to proof read it but I’m also blind so mistakes will have been made.
Summary: You finally give Chan a chance. All he has to do, is be there on time and fix it.
Tumblr media
You had spent about 2 weeks at your best friends house. It had been an emotional nightmare for you. You loved chan so much and this was the longest you had gone without talking to him.
It made you appreciate even the tiny moments with him so much.
All that being said though… it still wasn’t right the way you were being treated. You deserved so much better then that and if you didn’t stand up for yourself, who would.
You had started to feel worthless and so incredibly alone. It was the worst kind of loneliness, one where even surrounded by a group of people who were there because they loved you, you felt nothing.
Taking this time had made you go out again and talk to your loved ones more. Like you used to and you fell in love with the world all over again.
You wouldn’t have if your best friend hadn’t let you sulk more then 2 days.
You felt ready now to turn on your phone and face him.
This felt like the biggest miracle of all, you hadn’t used your phone in over two weeks. You hadn’t logged into any socials on any other devices. You were in disbelief as you powered the phone back on.
As soon as it turned on, all the texts from chan and the kids came through.
There were so many texts. You felt bad scrolling through them all. It ranged from chan apologising to you to the kids teling you about how miserable chan had been without you. You didn’t know who to reply to first so you set down your phone and took a deep breath.
If this gets overwhelming, I’m allowed to stop. I can do whatever makes me feel comfortable and I owe nothing to anyone.
It made you feel better to have a little mantra. Your best friend had suggested it to you.
You decided to text chan. You felt ready to do it. You started the text but then deleted it, this went on for another 5 minutes. You were stumped. You also had this feeling of terror in your gut that maybe this would go wrong somehow. That you could lose him forever.
You took another breath and started writing.
Chan, I’ve taken a while to settle myself and I think I’m ready to meet…
You had to take another moment to calm your anxiety. You told him where to meet and at what time. You would only wait 10 minutes and no more. You finished off the message confirming that he would be able to meet you at that time.
You didn’t have to wait long before you got a reply.
Y/N! I’m so glad you’re ok and I’m so so sorry that I made you feel that way. I would never hurt you on purpose and if I wasn’t so stupid, I would have realised what I was doing. The time and the place is fine. I will do anything to fix this. I love you and I’ll see you then. All I ask… is that you have faith in me. One more time.
The entire river of tears started to flow again as you read the text over and over. You mentally prepared yourself to meet him.
Two days later…
You sat in the cafe with the final bit of hope you had left. You werent going to let it go but that all depended on Chan and what he was planning on doing. The last 2 days had gone so agonisingly slow, you felt like you were in detention. Staring at a clock with no control over when this hell would end.
Three minutes late…
You had also made sure not to turn up early like you usually did when you wanted to meet people. If he was early, you wouldn’t have to wait… but he wasn’t. You didn’t lose any hope though because he still had time. You wanted this for him so badly. For you… so badly…
Six minutes late…
It made it harder the more you looked around. Your eyes flitting through the faces outside all the windows, hoping for the only familiar one.
Why does this place have so many god damn windows?!
You felt someone tap your shoulder and your soul left your body. When you finally came to your senses a second later, you turned to see Chan.
You froze. Unable to move. Your eyes took him in, you could see the dark circles and the eyebags. He looked horrible. You were struck with a bit of guilt.
No, this is not your fault. How many nights of sleep did you sacrifice waiting for him? Get a hold of yourself.
The cafe was very crowded so you couldn’t hear him say, ‘hi’. He grabbed your hand gently and gestured to take you outside. You got up and followed him.
It felt too good to be holding his hand right now. Way too good. Like, give in to all of your inhibitions and ignore all logic good. So as soon as you were outside, you pulled your hand away.
A look of concern crossed his face as he quickly turned around, thinking you got pulled away by accident in a crowd. Then it was hurt because he realised you were right there and had pulled your hand away on your own accord.
He lead the way to the park across the street and you guys found a bench to sit on. Sadly, that bench was covered in bird shizzle so you had to keep walking another 10 minutes before getting to another bench. It could not be more awkward and you cursed the park for not having enough benches.
You guys sat down and continued the awkward behaviour by looking around. You didn’t know what to say to each other and you didn’t know what the outcome for today could be. There was too much pressure.
Chan made the first move to get a conversation started, ‘how have you been? You feeling ok? Eating and drinking well?’
‘Yeah, I dont feel as… bad as I did before… everythings fine… you look like you haven’t been sleeping…’
‘It’s nothing out of the ordinary so it’s not like it’s unusual…’
‘Less sleep then before though?.’
‘I dont have the only thing that helps me sleep,’ he scratched his neck.
‘I hope you get it back…’ you looked straight ahead and not at him. It hurt too much to look at him.
‘Me too. I can’t believe how incredibly clueless I’ve been. How I could do that to you constantly and not even realise.’
‘What are you thinking happens now?’ You finally turned to look at him.
He took a good moment to look into your eyes and scan your face before he said, ‘I want to say that I’ll try… my absolute hardest… I just don’t know what I’ll do if that isn’t good enough either… I’m being stretched so thin with everything.’
‘You are a dad to seven. Can’t blame you for having a hard time,’ you chuckled as you tried to empathise.
‘The last thing I wanted to do today was break up but right now, sitting here and looking at you… I dont want to make another promise I won’t be able to keep. I love you too much to do that to you. To put you through that again,’ he was trying to hold back tears. You could tell.
‘I don’t want to do that either…’ you said in a hushed tone.
‘We’ll still be friends. Id never leave you and we still talk about anything and everything. I just can’t ask for you to wait for me to be in a place where I can start dating again,’ this hurt your heart. This wasn’t even an option in your mind.
‘I’m willing to wait. I know you’re it for me… I cant picture a life without you,’ the idea of him not being there at any of your important milestones had always been non existent in your mind.
‘But it isn’t fair. That will still hurt you just like before. Having to wait for me. I dont know how long that could take. We could be in that wierd limbo for years.’
You didn’t know what else you could say….‘this isnt fair. Nothing is fair.’
He looked at you through tears as he moved to hug you. ‘I know, my love.’
You guys sat there for a while, hugging each other and not saying anything. It hurt like hell already and any words would only make this worse. As it got colder and the sunlight started to dim, you guys knew what you had to do.
‘We’re still going to be best friends right?’ You said as you moved to stand up.
‘I wouldn’t want anyone else,’ he replied honestly as he followed.
‘I should go… before I say things I shouldn’t.’
Chan gave a dry laugh, ‘same here.’
You kept staring at each other and not moving.
You let out a sad chuckle, ‘one of us should probably…’
‘yeah…’ he was looking at you with unmoving eyes.
‘both of us turn around at the same time when I get to three. Sound good?’
‘Yeah,’ he agreed
‘one…’
You both couldn’t take your eyes off wach other and slowly moved closer.
‘…two…’ you said a little quietly.
You guys were extremely close. Noses almost touching and you could feel his breath.
‘…three…’ a whisper.
He kissed you. You couldn’t pull away and you were there for god knows how long before you pulled away.
Chan looked you in the eyes ‘no.’
‘What?’ You felt a little panic. What? He didn’t want to be friends anymore either? Was this a stupid mistake? He kissed you. This can’t be your fault.
‘No, I’m not leaving you. No way, I just can’t. We have to figure this out. There has to be some way.’
‘You will have to work even harder, you know?’
‘Yeah. But if you’re willing to do it, I will. No trying, I’ll just do it. If there was ever a time to give my all to something, it would be now.’
You hugged him so quickly, with so much excitement. ‘THE AMOUNT OF CRYING I’M DOING TODAY! OH MY GOD!’
He hugged you back, tightly. ‘bro same.’
‘Did you just bro zone me after everything we’ve been through?’
This got a silent laugh from him, ‘hh, hush now little one.’
‘You say shit like that and wonder why everyone calls you old.’
There, as the sun set, you stayed. You don’t remember exactly how long and it was very cold. But that hug was the warmest you had gotten for a very long time. You felt like everything was going to be ok.
So many things were left unsaid and so many problems would have to be fixed later. It was definitely going to be hard, but it was more then worth it.

I’ll add more notes at the end, my brain is empty rn.
(3.1k words)
Satoru's house was a mess, It was like a earthquake just destroyed everything in sight, there was empty boxes of school supplies on the floor, clean clothes scattered on the sofa and chairs, a bag of hair ties that seemed to have exploded... in reality, it was something way less tragic than a natural disaster. Satoru and his kids were getting ready before school.
He was just as nervous as Megumi and Tsumiki for their first day of school, if not more. He changed clothes almost four times before deciding that a white button down and black pants will do.
In record time, he had the frozen waffles ready to eat on the table, along with hot chocolate for him and Megumi and a cup of tea for Tsumiki, because she thought that Satoru’s breakfasts were way too sweet.
Satoru was fixing the tie of a grumpy Megumi. "Leave it! I don't wanna wear this stupid tie anyways." After some fixing on his uniform, Satoru finally let him free to eat his waffles.
"But you look fancy, Meg!" He sat down with them and looked at the watch on his wrist, they still had 10 minutes to eat their breakfast. "It's only for the first days though, after that you can take it off, they won't care."
When Satoru was about to get up and get more chocolate syrup, he noticed Tsumiki, only ate about 1/4 of her plate. He softly stroked her hair. "What's wrong princess? is it too sweet? We still have time to make toast." She denied with her head.
"It's not that, the waffles are great." She smiled politely. "I'm just nervous… What if I don't make any friends?" Satoru’s heart squeezed, Tsumiki seemed genuinely worried looking down and fidgeting with her fingers.
"You will, baby, I can promise you that." While he spoke, he picked Tsumiki's knife and fork to cut the waffles in smaller pieces. "Everyone is gonna be nervous, it's the first day after all, so you are all gonna be on the same page. Maybe the first day you won't have a best friend or something like that right away, but by the end of the week i'm sure you'll have your group."
He smiled reassuringly at her, who now felt more confident. He picked one small waffle with the fork and put his other hand under it in case it fell, "Now, eat this waffle I made with love for you." She smiled and ate it happily.
"But you didn't make them, you just put them in the toaster and they're not even defrosted all the way," Megumi said with a grumpy expression on his face as usual, but Satoru knew that picking on him was his unique humor and also his way to show affection, even though the kid wouldn't admit it. "It had some ice inside from the freezer."
Satoru got up and walked towards Megumi and his empty and almost squeaky clean plate. With ice or not, Megumi liked the frozen waffles. "Damn relax, no one was going to take the waffles away from you Meg." He joked as he brought the plate and empty mug to the kitchen.
He left the dishes on the sink and looked at his watch again, his eyes widened when he noticed that the ten minute breakfast turned out to be fifteen. He sprinted to the main entrance, "Kids, go wash your teeth quickly, I'll start the car!"
𓈒 ݁ ₊
Satoru drove his car through the busy morning traffic, glancing in the rearview mirror at his two children sitting in the backseat, a mix of excitement and nervousness on their faces as they anticipated their first day at their new school.
Satoru grinned and began chatting enthusiastically, his words flowing to reassure them, even if they didn't respond much. "You two are going to do great! Just calm down, and remember, it's a fresh start with new friends and new adventures. You're both very smart children, this year will be great!"
Even though Megumi had slightly frown eyebrows, inside he felt at ease after Satoru’s words. And Tsumiki's face lit up with a smile. When they arrived, Satoru carried their backpacks until the entrance, but Megumi thought something was off when he noticed that Satoru walked with them inside the school.
"Why are you coming with us?" Megumi looked at Satoru with a raised eyebrow, and he was checking his phone, reading something.
"There's a welcoming act at the school’s auditorium for parents and students, the principal will give a speech and blah blah blah." after reading some texts, Satoru smiled at the screen. "But Nanami told me that there will be a table with snacks." Megumi snorted and Tsumiki looked at Satoru with a side eye. "With how expensive this school is, the least they can do is offer me a cup of tea." He said in between his teeth.
"Don't do anything embarrassing, please." He walked ahead of his sister and Satoru, already feeling embarrassed that his dad was walking with him inside the school like he was a little kid that could get lost.
"And don't flirt with Nanami, he's gonna be our teacher now." Tsumiki added seriously.
Satoru was flabbergasted at both of his children, but still a little bit entertained. "Wha- I'm not gonna embarrass you or flirt with anyone! You guys think too little of me!". They finally got to the school’s auditorium, the teachers were guiding the kids to their sits by grade, so Satoru would go sit behind where the parents were. "Okay go to your seats and listen to your teachers, I'll go grab a cup of tea." he ruffled their hair one last time to then go to the snack table.
When he got there he saw Nanami, just like they said on text messages. The speech and Welcome Act hadn't started yet so the majority of the kids were sitting while the parents grabbed a coffee and talked with each other.
"Nanami! How are you?" He greeted his friend with a brief hug and backslap, looking at him up and down when they separated. "Lookin' good." He said flirtatiously, enjoying the playful banter that often annoyed Nanami.
The blond man just rolled his eyes and sighed, "I'm good, thank you. How are you? it's Tsumiki's last year before high school isn't it?"
Satoru sighed with a proud smile, glancing in her direction for a moment. "It is, my little girl is all grown up now." He looked down at his cup of tea with a hint of nostalgia. "I hope her high school years will be the best years of her life." Nanami's gaze softened at his words.
"I'm sure she'll have a great time, she's the sweetest kid ever; you've done a great job." Satoru chuckled, moved by his friend’s words, and playfully hit his arm.
"C'mon Nanami, you're gonna make me cry and Megumi already told me not to embarrass him." Satory wiped a fake tear from his face and Nanami laughed tenderly at Megumi’s words.
"Megumi is the best, he's the only one that keeps you humble." They kept chatting about the kids and their jobs, discussing on which students were more difficult to deal with: the college students, because Satoru was a professor, or the little noisy kids that Nanami taught. But suddenly something, or rather, someone familiar caught Nanami's attention.
A few meters away from them, he recognized a tall man with black straight hair tied in a half bun, who also wore black ear gauges. He haven’t seen that man in ages, so he could be wrong, maybe it was a mistake, his eyes were probably deceiving him, but no, it really was...
"Isn't that Suguru Geto?" Nanami abruptly interrupted their conversation while squinting his eyes.
After hearing that name, Satoru's blood froze automatically on his veins, and Nanami could tell by his mortified expression.
Satoru hasn't heard his name coming from anyone in a really long time. At first thought he didn’t heard Nanami correctly, because there was just no way. Was his sugar addiction finally getting to him? Has he finally started hallucinating?
He decided to slowly turn around to see where was Nanami looking at, and he didn't knew what to expect, the most realistic thing that could happen is that when he turned around he'd see someone that looked like him, and nothing more.
But oh there he was.
And he wasn't alone, he was with two little girls about the same age as Megumi, and they wore the same uniform as Tsumiki. Satoru couldn't believe this, being realistic, he never imagined that he would be seeing him again, specially there and with two kids.
His one and only best friend, whom he considered him to be the person he has been the closest to, the person he trusted the most, and that still felt like someone important to him even though the last time they saw each other they were about seventeen years old.
Things didn’t stop there, he felt his heart dropping to the floor when those violet eyes caught a glance of his own, completely defenseless. They both stood there, looking at each other like a bucket of cold water just fell over their heads, this had to be a sick joke of some kind.
Satoru felt the need to get closer, to say something, anything. It felt like he was bewitched, but just when he was thinking about breaking the distance and take the first step, Tsumiki appeared in front of him with a hair tie on her hand.
"Dad, can you put my hair on a ponytail? the speech is about to start and they'll take pictures." Satoru seemed to be on a trance, so Tsumiki tugged on his shirt. "Dad! hurry up!"
Satoru looked at her and chuckled nervously, "Sorry love... there you go, now go to your seat." His daughter thanked him and walked back where she came from. But when he looked up he couldn't find him anymore.
Nanami could only imagine how this moment felt for Satoru. After all, he just saw his best friend after twelve years. He put a reassuring hand on his shoulder, "Hey, are you alright?" His friend sighed distressed, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Can I go to your place this evening? I just... need to talk about this."
"Of course, you're welcome whenever you need it." Satoru smiled, he felt so glad to have a friend like Nanami.
"Okay but don't get too excited, we're just going to talk, that's all." Nanami rolled his eyes and slapped the back of Satoru's head.
"How can you still make your perverted jokes in a moment like this?" Satoru just laughed, and sighed hopeless.
"I don't know, I think i'm going insane."
𓈒 ݁ ₊
Satoru arrived at Nanami's apartment at 7:30 PM, they both had to work the day after so they decided to meet early, that way Satoru could be back home and sleeping at 10:00 PM. They had to admit that they felt old for calculating the time to get home and sleep, they weren’t the same boys from college.
Nanami got himself a whisky on the rocks and a glass of sweet wine for his friend as they sat down on the balcony. Satoru and Nanami met in high school, but became good friends after graduation, and after all those years they've known each other, he has never seen Satoru as stressed as he was right now, not even once.
"Nanami, what should I do?" His leg bounced up and down and his fingers ran through his white hair, then he rested his forehead on his hand. "Should I talk to him or should I just pretend like I didn't see him?"
"I don't think that's going to work, you'll see him pretty often, you know?" He took a sip from his cold glass, "His daughters are Megumi's classmates." Satoru’s eyes widened in surprise.
"Oh shit, I forgot that he has two daughters." Nanami wanted to laugh at Satoru’s comment and the expression on his face.
"So? You literally have two kids yourself."
"But what if he's married or something?" Nanami raised an eyebrow, and Satoru just chugged his wine like it was a shot, probably not wanting to taste the liquor since he wasn't used to drink.
"Would that... be a problem?" The blue eyed man just sighed, frustrated with his own confusing mix of feelings.
"No... yes. Ugh, I don't know, maybe?" his hands rubbed his face, trying to dissipate his exhaustion and stress. And now Nanami was truly confused, he wasn’t expecting such an ambiguous answer from him.
"Wait a second, are you telling me... that you feel something for Geto?" Nanami couldn't believe it, did Satoru really felt something for that man? Even after all those years had passed? Satoru’s face told him all he needed to know but didn't want to hear.
"I don't think I've ever stopped having some sorta feelings for him." It was something crazy, but Satoru seemed sincere about it. Still, Nanami couldn't wrap his head around it. “I really liked him back then, at the time I could even say that I loved him but, I was too young and realized too late.” He smiled with nostalgia at the bittersweet memories.
"But it's been twelve years!" Nanami was shocked, but Satoru seemed just so certain about it, even though it’s been a decade without even talking to him. The blond man suddenly felt like he was the only sane person in that apartment.
"Believe me, I'm well aware that it's been twelve years... I think about it more often than I should." Melancholy slowly filled his eyes. "We had a fight before he left, that's the last time we said something to each other." Nanami tilted his head slightly.
"So you guys broke up in bad terms?" Satoru looked at him confused at first, but then he understood, he could just chuckle nervously.
"Oh we weren't together, I never even got to tell him that I had a crush on him." He had to be joking, Nanami thought.
"What? You guys were just friends?" Satoru nodded with a sheepish smile, "But- I remember you two were like an old married couple. And what was the fight even about? Can't you just tell me the whole story?" Nanami simply couldn't understand them, but he didn't knew if asking was a good idea after seeing Gojo with a melancholic glaze on his eyes as he thought about his past.
"I remember when we were around sixteen or seventeen, I think that's when I noticed that Suguru started to act different... He seemed more tired and distant, he started to get thinner and his hair was tangled and undone instead of in a bun like he always had it." He swallowed the lump on his throat that wanted to break his voice, the memories of a young Suguru just slowly shutting down was something that made him want to cry.
Satoru continued. "I didn't know for certain what was happening to him, but I could tell that he wasn't in a good place, so I always tried to cheer him up and make him feel better, but I guess it wasn't enough." A treacherous tear rolled down his cheek, he wiped it quickly pretending it didn't happen. Nanami, witnessing this vulnerable side of him, was taken aback. "And when he left I felt lonelier than ever, it reminded me of when I was a kid... Suguru was the only person that truly understood me, unlike everyone else I've ever met. With him, everything seemed just so bright, so comforting. He saw beyond my last name and status, he appreciated me for who I actually was." Another shaky breath escaped him, revealing the depth of their connection.
Seeing him crying was something difficult, Satoru was someone strong, someone you could hardly ever see being sad or vulnerable, but he was always there for anyone that needed him. Nanami immediately offered him a tissue and tried to comfort him, whispering "It's okay."
"When I realized that his decision was already taken and that he was leaving the city... I told him that he was just, running away from his problems instead of facing them, and that he- he didn't care about our future or our plans and... I think what hurt him the most was when I said that he didn't cared about us, I can't get the look on his face off my mind." His hand ran through his hair, and he finally turned to look at Nanami, "I think that… Suguru was my first love, I've never had anything like what I had with him, and I never will again."
There was a silence, Satoru tried to steady his breaths while Nanami just processed everything that he said. He knew those two were close, but he didn't knew they were that important to each other, even though he thought that they were dating, he imagined that it was just a high school sweetheart.
"I think this is your chance to talk to him." After meditating it, he thought that it was the best option for him, but Satoru looked at him with wide and teary eyes, like he was asking for more advice. "If you two are in this situation right now, where your kids go to the same school and that you'll see each other again often... I think that you should try and at least keep things peaceful with your so called «first love»." Satoru looked down and laughed softly.
"Easier said than done..." His phone buzzed on his pocket, he checked it and it was a picture from Choso, his babysitter and also his student. It was a picture of Tsumiki sitting on the couch and doing a peace sign with her hand, next to her Megumi covered his face with a drawing he made of an animal that seemed like a magic wolf.
He dried his remaining tears with his sleeve and put his phone back in his pocket. "I better get going, Choso has to study for an exam."
"You better give that kid extra credit." Satoru chuckled. They walked to the main entrance and before his friend left, he stopped him to talk "Satoru, if you need to talk, or if you need advice or even if you need someone to take care of your kids, don't doubt asking, I'll always be here okay?" Satoru felt really moved by his words, but he couldn't resist to pick on Nanami.
"I will. Thank you, seriously." He smiled. "Oh, and don't call me Satoru, I get flashbacks from college." Nanami almost laughed when Satoru winked at him.
"If nine years ago I knew that you would still bother me 'til this day, I would've thought about it twice before sleeping with you."

Sometimes, you wondered just what was going on in the guys’ brains that convinced them that any of what they did was a good idea.
The Hidden City was amazing. You’d known that the moment you stepped foot in it. Filled with yokai, and with this magic that you only ever dreamed of as a child. You’d thought you were in for a nice, peaceful day for once, exploring.
At some point, you and April had split off from the group. You could’ve sworn you didn’t even leave their sight, but when you turned around, the turtles were gone.
You decided to meet up with them again later, and went on about your sightseeing. It had been maybe fifteen minutes - only fifteen minutes - when you heard April’s phone ring.
“Hey, Mikey.” You knelt down to examine the plaque of a statue while she picked up the call, noting it was meant to be of some historic figure.
“What did you guys do this time.”
That certainly wasn’t an encouraging statement. “What did they do?” You quickly looked back at her.
April took the phone from her ear and put it on speaker. None other than Michelangelo was on the other end. “So, uh, funny story…” He spoke in a panicked whisper. Definitely not a good sign.
“So Donnie-“
“Oh, so it’s MY fault now, is it!”
“Would you two be quiet?” On the other end, Raph took the phone. “We were just minding our business, and I’m-Not-Naming-Names-Donnie ran into this yokai.”
“Oh?” You could hear faint bickering in the background, accompanied by Raph trying to hush his brothers. Well, two of them, at least. “Where’s Leo?”
“Mob.”
“Excuse me?”
“There is a mob.”
Now that the word ‘mob’ was mentioned, you couldn’t help but notice the sounds of rage coming from somewhere in the distance.
“WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU SAY TO THEM?” As April yelled into the phone, you began making your way towards the racket.
About five streets down, you found the previously mentioned mob. And it truly was a mob, with pitchforks and everything. Above the crowd, on the rooftops of what you took to be a restaurant of some kind, you could see three of the four brothers hiding somewhat poorly behind a stack of boxes. Your boyfriend, notably, was missing.
“Look, I didn’t mean to take that little girl’s teddy bear, okay? I didn’t know!” There he was, at the front of the crowd, quickly being backed into a corner.
“God damn it, Leo…” Pushing through the horde wasn’t easy, especially a horde of yokai, who occasionally had spikes and other such appendages, but you made it through.
“HEY, HEY, PEOPLE, CALM DOWN!” Your yells quickly brought attention to you, which may or may not have been a mistake.
“Oh hey, y’don’t see humans every day ‘round here…”
“Who’s that lady?”
You laughed nervously. “Now look, I don’t know what happened here, but I can assure you all, whatever my boyfriend and his brothers may have said, or done, they apologize deeply and hope you can forgive them, and/or whatever they smashed can hopefully be fixed with super glue.”
Silence had fallen over the mob. Was that a good sign? The pitchforks were still up.
“… So now that that’s been said and done we’re going to take our leave now goodbye!”
You turned away from the crowd and hastily scooped Leo up bridal style. “OH-“ You barely had time to register his red face before you were running from a mob of angry yokai.
You’re not really sure how you got out of there without being burned at the stake. You had absolutely no plan, and the majority of your success was definitely due to pure luck. At some point, you managed to duck into an alleyway without being noticed, breathing heavily. Running who knows how far at who knows how fast wasn’t an easy feat.
Speaking of, Leo was still in your arms.
“I’m gonna put you down now.”
“Okay.”
You set him down gently before leaning back against the wall behind you, trying to catch your breath. “Think they’re gone? … Leo?”
You hadn’t previously been aware that turtles could blush just as red as humans, but here Leo was.
You couldn’t help but smile at him. “Aw, did I catch you off guard?”
“Off guard? Me, the great Leonardo, off guard? Never!”
“Your face says different.”
“Pff-“ Leo crossed his arms. “You didn’t HAVE to pick me up. What, (y/n), trying to impress me?”
“Maybe.” You were on a roll today. It wasn’t every day Leo got flustered like this. “Guess you’re just that lucky to have a big, strong girlfriend like me.”
Leo did that awkward laugh - you know the one - as he covered his face with a hand. “Oh, I’m going to get you back for this.”
“Yeah, sure, pretty boy.” You grabbed his hand, and led the way out of the alley. “Come on, let’s find the others before those yokai come back. What did you do, anyways…?”

Living Up To The Legacy ✈️ | Top Gun: Maverick P.1
Contains spoilers for Top Gun: Maverick
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Characters & Pairings: LT. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x Lt. Barbara ‘Legacy’ Mitchell (past romance/eventual romance), Cpt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (platonic), Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin (platonic), Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace (platonic), pretty much every other character is a platonic pairing
Content Warnings: light angst, profanity, slight age-gap (Rooster was born in 1984, Barbara in 1989), mentions of death, spoilers for TGM | Female OC (she/her) | Wc: 10k
Premise: Nearly grounded once and for all after disobeying orders, Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell is sent to North Island, California on a new assignment. The goal: teach a group of TOPGUN graduates how to work as a team and successfully destroy a uranium plant before it is fully operation. The problem, two of the candidates have a personal connection to Maverick and each other, but all are estranged. Maverick comes face to face with a new mission on his plate, one that looks nearly impossible compared to the difficult task he is to perform.
Note: So for this story, I looked it up and it says on the wiki that Rooster was born in 1984 and for this I’m making Barbara born in 1989 so they have roughly a five-ish year age-gap between them. Also considering this movie was supposed to be released in 2020, the plot I think take place in 2019 so that’s gonna be the year it is set in. Hope that makes sense and sorry for any confusion. If I made any inconsistencies, I’ll go back and fix them later on.
—————————————————————
“Maverick. Thirty plus years of service. Combat medals. Citations. Only man to shoot down three enemy plans in the last forty years. Distinguished. Distinguished. Distinguished,” Admiral Cain’s low voice reads off the paper. In front of him, Maverick stares ahead at attention. Once again the infamous naval pilot is faced with the consequences of his actions. This time it was going against orders to go through with testing the “Darkstar” scramjet at Mach 10.
An action which led to him pushing it, in Maverick fashion, and ultimately destroying it.
“Yet you can’t get a promotion. You won’t retire. And despite your best efforts you refuse to die. You should at least be a two star Admiral by now, if not a senator,” Cain points out. “Yet here you are. Captain. Why is that?”
There was no time to joke around, but Mav couldn’t help it. “It’s one of life’s mysteries, sir.”
“This isn’t a joke. I asked you a question,” Cain snaps with no humor in his tone.
“I’m where I belong, sir.”
“Well, the navy doesn’t see it that way,” Cain shakes his head. “Not anymore.” The sound of a jet passes by as Cain leans back in his chair. “These planes you’ve been testing, Captain, one day, sooner or later, they won’t need pilots at all. Pilots that need to sleep, eat, take a piss.” He looks back to Maverick, a slight glare in his expression. “Pilots that disobey orders. Which I hear has become a habit of yet another pilot who has taken it upon herself to live up to the Mitchell name.”
A silence passes as Maverick takes in his words. He doesn’t want to react at the mention of his daughter. The one he hadn’t seen in years. Part of him feels a sense of pride. That she is as rebellious as he was in his youth, pissing off superiors left and right. But on another note it worries him. The last thing he’d want for her is to lose her career over mistakes and disobeying.
Cain then points out the obvious, “All you did was buy some time for those men out there. The future is coming, and you’re not in it.” This has Mav looking away, not wanting to accept what the Admiral was telling him.
“Escort this man off the base,” Cain leans forward. “Take him to his quarters. Wait with him while he packs his gear. I want him on the road to North Island within the hour.”
“North Island, sir?” Mav asks with confusion. Of course he knew what lay in North Island. So why the hell was he going there?
“Call came in with impeccable timing—right as I was driving here to ground your ass once and for all,” the tone in Cain’s voice read that he was not at all happy to deliver the news—if it was up to him, Maverick would be out of the Navy for good. “It galls me to say it, but….for reasons known only to the Almighty and your guardian angel, you’ve been called back to TOPGUN.”
The look on Mavericks face was only that of shock—and probably fear. Back to Top Gun?? After thirty years?? It couldn’t be real. “Sir?”
Cain cuts him off, “You are dismissed, Captain.”
Picking his head up, blinking rapidly as he did, Maverick slowly turns on his heel. As he heads out, Cain calls to him one last time. “The end is inevitable, Maverick. Your kind is headed for extinction.”
Stopping shortly in front of the door, Mav glances to the floor before facing his now former superior. In his gaze is determination, as though it would not be the last Cain saw of him. “Maybe so sir. But not today.”
The ride to North Island was quick. Mostly because Mav was speeding if he was being honest. There was nothing like the sight of an F-18 taxiing down the runway before taking off into the horizon. It brought a smile to the pilots face, cruising down the road next to the airstrip and pumping the gas to try and beat the jet before it went airborne.
When he arrived at Fightertown located in San Diego, the first thing Maverick did was head to the building where he was to meet with his new superiors. Walking in, Mav’s eyes caught sight of a familiar picture hanging on the wall to his left. It was a black and white photograph of a young Maverick shaking hands with a man he once rivaled, after successfully shooting down enemy planes.
Where a forever friendship was formed. Where Maverick found his wingman.
Behind him, was another photo. This one showed the same man Maverick was shaking hands with, but much older with an array of ribbons signifying his accomplishments. Admiral Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, Commander of the U.S Pacific Fleet, Mav’s wingman and literal guardian angel for when he fucks up.
Smiling at the photo, Mav continues down the hallway to the meeting room he’s expected at.
“Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. Your reputation precedes you,” were the words he was greeted with from the three-star admiral seated at the head of the table. Beside him was a two-star admiral.
“Thank you, sir.”
The admiral tilts his head, almost humored. “Wasn’t a compliment. I’m Admiral Beau Simpson. I’m the air boss. I believe you know Admiral Bates.”
Mav nods to the man in greeting, “Warlock, sir. Must admit, I wasn’t expecting an invitation back.”
“They’re called orders, Maverick,” Warlock corrects, albeit a small smirk on his lips. Mav sheepishly smiles, glancing to the ground. “You two have something in common,” Warlock gestures to the man beside him, “Cyclone here was first in his class back in ‘88.”
“Actually, sir, I finished second,” Mav points out. “Just want to manage expectations.” He ends with a full grin, as if he found the jab at himself funny.
Cyclone didn’t look impressed.
“The target….” Warlock leans in to redirect the subject before pressing something on the device in front of him. The screen behind Mav depicts blueprints, the Captain turning to see. “—is an unsanctioned uranium enrichment plant built in violation of a multilateral NATO treaty. The uranium produced there represents a direct threat to our allies in the region. The Pentagon has tasked us with assembling a strike team and taking it out before it becomes fully operational.”
The screen switches to a geographic model showcasing a mountain. “The plant sits in an underground bunker at the end of this valley. Said valley is GPS jammed and defended by an extensive surface-to-air missile array,” red dots light up around the mountain. They symbolize missiles protecting the bunker. “—serving a limited number of fifth generation fighters, which in turn are backed up by a plentiful reserve of surplus aircraft. Even a few old F-14s.”
“Seems like we’re not the only ones holding on to old relics,” Cyclone comments, noticing the look on Mav’s face at the sight of the old jets they used to fly back in the day.
“What’s your read, Captain?” Warlock asks, causing Mav to look intensely at the screen.
What he saw was something almost impossible. Looking at it from any angle indicated this to the esteemed pilot. It made Mav fear for the others who would be involved.
He cleared his throat before speaking. “Well, sir, normally this would be a cakewalk for the F-35’s stealth, but the GPS-jamming negates that. And a surface-to-air threat necessitates a low-level laser-guided strike tailor made for the F-18. I figure,” he pauses to think. “Two precision bombs, minimum. Makes it four aircraft flying in pairs.” Cyclone and Warlock share a look, while Mav points a finger at the mountain. “That is one hell of a steep climb out of there, exposing you to all the surface-to-air missiles. You survive that, it’s a dogfight all the way home.”
“All requirements for which you have real-world experience,” Warlock says, causing Mav to glance at him.
“Not the same mission, sir.” He turns back to the screen, deep in thought. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, the odds were not in their favor for this type of mission. “No, someone’s not coming back from this.”
“Can it be done or not?” Cyclone questions, wanting to hurry up and finish the meeting. Time was at the essence and they needed to get started.
“How soon before the plant becomes operational?”
“Three weeks,” Warlock answers. “Maybe less.”
Bidding one last look to the screen, Maverick turns to face the Admirals. Oblivious to what they really wanted him there for. In his mind, he was the man tasked with leading the mission. “Well, it’s been a while since I’ve flown an F-18, and…I’m not sure who I’d trust to fly the other three.” He continues talking, not noticing the look Cyclone gives Warlock which has the latter interrupting him. “But I'll find a way to make it work—.”
“I think you misunderstand, Captain.”
This has Mav confused, “Sir?”
“We don’t want you to fly it,” Cyclone tells him. “We want you to teach it.”
Now that was the last thing the man expected. “Teach, sir?” Teaching and Maverick were not something to be used in the same sentence. He learned that quickly in his two months as instructor….thirty years prior.
His superiors both give a sigh, before Cyclone switches the screen on the projector. “We’ve recalled twelve Top Gun graduates from their squadrons.” Two rows of photos appeared showing the selected graduates in their flight jumpsuits. Each had their name along with their call sign located at the bottom. “We want you to narrow that pool down to six.”
Maverick let his eyes scan the photos, reading over the names after getting a look at each face they belonged to. BOB, OMAHA, HALO, YALE, HARVARD, FANBOY, PAYBACK, COYOTE, HANGMAN, PHOENIX. And then his attention was brought to the last two on the far right, making his heart sink as he read ROOSTER and LEGACY.
It was like the universe was out to get him. Digging up bones that could never be buried no matter how much he tried to fix the past. The boy with the golden hair and mustache, making him look like a carbon copy of his dad, Goose. Mavericks lost wingman who he still blames himself for his death. And the girl he failed as a father, a spitting image of his own self with matching blue-green eyes and black hair.
He hadn’t seen either in years. And if what Ice told him was true about what happened to their relationship, then Mav was at a loss to even attempt to approach the subject with his daughter. She never called. Never sent a text. Or even an email. But Maverick couldn’t blame her.
“They’ll fly the mission.” Cyclone’s voice brought him out of his inner battle with his thoughts. The admiral notices the clench of his jaw, and distant look in his eye as he turns away from the screen. “Is there a problem, Captain?”
The condescending tone nearly had Maverick walking out of the room. “You know there is, sir.”
“Yeah,” he replies nonchalantly, tapping the tablet with his finger. The screen pulls up the image of Rooster and all his information. “Bradley Bradshaw, aka ‘Rooster.’ I understand you used to fly with his old man. What was his call sign?” Of course the admiral knew, but he wanted Maverick to tell him anyway.
The pain in the Captain's heart was clear as he said aloud, “‘Goose’, sir.”
“Tragic what happened.”
“Captain Mitchell was cleared of any wrongdoing,” Warlock interjects, feeling sympathy for the pilot. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose one’s wingman. “Goose’s death was an accident.”
“Is that how you see it, Captain,” Cyclone asks before gesturing to the screen. It was clear he was getting under Mavericks skin. And it was working. “Is that how Goose’s son sees it?” Before the pilot could answer, Cyclone changed the screen to the next image.
The woman staring back at them had dark black hair cut in a sleek bob that fell just above her chin. She had strong cheekbones and jawline, dark brows framing what Maverick knew were bright blue-green eyes—which were grey in contrast to the colorless photo—and plump lips like her mother. She wasn’t smiling in her photo. When thinking about it, Mav couldn’t remember the last time he saw his daughter smile.
Once again Cyclone’s voice caught his attention. “Lieutenant Barbara Mitchell. Better known as ‘Legacy,’ which is something she certainly lives up to. Your daughter's reputation nearly rivals that of your own, Captain.”
Mavericks lips curl up, “so I’ve heard.”
Cyclone grimaces while Warlock smirks. It was already a handful having one Mitchell at Top Gun. Add a second and there surely would be chaos of some sort. But, they were the best of the best. Literally. Barbara Mitchell lived up to the legacy of her family in every aspect there was.
There was also another subject to note in regards to the three—Maverick, Rooster, and Legacy—being called back to Top Gun. “It’s my understanding Rooster and Legacy are—I’m sorry, were spouses. Or has the divorce not been finalized?”
Maverick grimaced, glancing away with his jaw clenched. So what Ice told him was true. It pained the aviator to know the two didn’t last. It was never easy being a couple where both were in the military, let alone fighter pilots and on top of that Maverick felt an underlying reason for their relationship ended was in regards to him.
It had been nearly two years since Ice told him Barb had filed for separation. Knowing his daughter, Mav knew she’d want to cut the ribbon loose instead of drawing it out and going to court so he expected the divorce was quick. Cyclone was just trying to piss him off. Mav wouldn’t put it past him to know they were in fact divorced.
Instead of answering the Admiral, he changed the topic to a more important matter. “With all due respect, sir, I’m not a teacher.” It didn’t work the last time, he doubted it would again.
“You were a Top Gun instructor before.”
“That was almost thirty years ago. I lasted two months,” He replied, trying to show it was a bad idea to give him the job. “It’s not where I belong.”
“Then let me be perfectly blunt,” Cyclone started, not showing really any sympathy. “You were not my first choice. In fact, you weren’t even on the list. You are here at the request of Admiral Kazansky.” Ah, Ice saves the day once again. “Now, Iceman happens to be a man I deeply admire, and he seems to think that you have something left to offer the Navy,” he pauses to shake his head.
“What that is, I can’t imagine. You don’t have to take this job. But let me be clear: this will be your last post, Captain. You fly for Top Gun, or you don’t fly for the Navy ever again.”
And just like that, Maverick was back at Top Gun. Whether he liked it or not.
Later that night Maverick ended up sitting at the bar at the local tavern ‘The Hard Deck.’ Two Lieutenants he recognized as the recruits Hangman and Coyote were tossing darts. Mav watched them for a while until he passed a few texts between him and Ice. Then to his surprise, the lady behind the bar was none other than his former flame, Penny.
He thought the conversation was going well….until she rang the bell. “Disrespect a lady, the Navy, or put your cell phone on my bar,” Mav recited as he lifted his phone off the bar.
“And you buy a round,” Penny finished for him, a mischievous smile coating her lips.
With a hesitant look, Mav glanced around, “For everyone?” He questioned.
“I’m afraid rules are rules. You’re lucky it’s early.” Mav watched her walk away, smiling with a light blush to his cheeks. Every time he saw Penny, something in him stirred like he was a giddy teenager again.
“What do we have here?” The sound of Hangman’s voice called his attention. He followed the blonde’s gaze to a trio of officers entering the bar. A female lieutenant walked ahead of the two guys behind her. Mav recognized them as Phoenix, Fanboy, and Payback.
“If it ain’t Phoenix!” Hangman lifted the cue up and walked beside the table to greet them. “And here I thought we were special, Coyote. Turns out the invite went to anyone.”
Lt. Trace, aka Phoenix just smirked, crossing her arms over her chest. “Fellas, this here’s Bagman.”
“Hangman,” he corrected.
“Whatever,” her tone indicated she didn’t care. “You’re looking at the only naval aviator on active duty with a confirmed air-to-air kill.”
Hangman smiled, obviously feeling the inflation to his ego. “Stop.” He really didn’t want her to.
The tables then turned. “Mind you, the other guy was in a museum piece from the Korean War,” Phoenix points out, playing down on his accomplishment.
“Cold War,” Coyote jumps in.
“Different wars, same century,” Lt. Fitch counters.
“Not this one,” says Lt. Garcia.
Coyote gestures to the two with a pool cue in his hand. “Who are your friends?”
“Payback,” Fitch tells him and Garcia follows with, “Fanboy.”
“Hey, Coyote,” Phoenix greets.
“Hey,” he replies with a smirk. The woman nudges her head to the right, “who’s he?”
“Who’s who?” All eyes draw to the Lieutenant brushing something off some peanut shells off his uniform seated by the pool table. When he notices them looking at him he freezes. Coyote is the first to speak, “When did you get in?”
The blonde man with glasses smiles sheepishly, “Oh, I've been here the whole time.” At no point did the group notice the man, who was munching on some peanuts and watching the interaction play out.
“The man’s a stealth pilot,” Hangman comments and Coyote agrees, “Literally.”
“Weapons systems officer, actually,” he politely corrects. It causes Hangman to nod his head, “With no sense of humor,” and hand off the pool cue to Phoenix.
“What do they call you,” She asks. There’s an immediate blush to his cheeks when he answers, “Bob.”
“No, your call sign,” Payback rephrases. Again, the blonde man appears embarrassed, “Uhh….Bob.”
The name rings a bell for the female aviator, “Bob Floyd. You’re my new backseater? From Lemoore.” Beside her, Fanboy was lightly laughing.
Bob smiles at her, “Looks like it. Yeah.” She looks him over, as if to read him and gives a nod before handing him the cue, “nine-ball, Bob. Rack ‘em.” He stared at the cue, not really expecting to be included in the game. “Okay,” he eventually says while getting up from the chair.
Over at the bar, Hangman goes to cash in on the round bought by Maverick. “Penny, my dear.”
“Yeah,” she says, going up to him.
“I’ll have four more on the old-timer,” his eyes meet Maverick as he orders. The older man shakes his head when Penny gives him a look while going to grab the beers. A few moments later his attention is again drawn to the entrance of the bar when Phoenix loudly calls out to a patron.
A patron Maverick had yet to reunite with.
“Bradshaw!” She yells, capturing the young Lieutenant’s eyes. “Is that you?” At the bar, Maverick turns his back away, preventing Rooster from seeing him when he walks to the group. The woman gives an offended look when he approaches, “This is how I find out you’re stateside?”
The aviator sunglasses are removed and tucked into his shirt. “Yeah, I just thought I’d surprise you.” He comes up behind Phoenix as she lines up the shot.
“Hmm.” Bending down, Phoenix draws the cue back and makes direct contact with Rooster’s gut. He grunts, the woman pushing the cue forward to hit the ball and letting it shoot across the table. Rooster bends, clutching his stomach with a pained expression. “I guess I surprised you back.”
Squinting, Rooster lifts his gaze to her and smiles as best as he can, “It’s good to see you.”
“Good to see you too,” she replies, her smile then falling. “Do you know if—.” The shake of his head cuts Phoenix off from finishing the sentence.
“We’ll find out sooner or later,” he stands straight, glancing at the other pilots around them. “I wouldn’t be surprised with this many of us called back, she would be too.”
Back at the bar, Penny handed Hangman four beers, courtesy of Mav’s round. “Here you go,” she says as he takes the bottles. The Lieutenant thanks her before turning to Mav to say, “Much appreciated, Pops.” He ends with a wink and turns back to return to the group.
Mav nods briefly, letting his gaze go past the blonde to focus on the man in the Hawaiian shirt behind him. Rooster’s back was to him, and wanting to get out of there before the young man noticed, Mav pulled out his card for Penny. “How about ringing me up before the evening rush?”
With a smirk, Penny goes to the register, leaving the pilot to himself once again. A few times he checks the entrance to see if Barbara had arrived. So far half of the recruits had shown up, Mav was prepared to get a glimpse of his daughter before heading out.
Changing the song on the jukebox and handing the beers over to Coyote, Hangman lands his sight on Rooster. “Bradshaw,” he draws out, snatching the cue from Bob before the Lieutenant could take the shot. “As I live and breathe.”
“Hangman,” Rooster returns, looking him over. “You look…good.” Nudging Bob aside, Hangman lines up his cue with the ball, “Well, I am good, Rooster.” The two connect eyes just as he draws the cue back and hits the ball, “I’m very good. In fact, I am too good to be true.”
The arrogance from the man has Phoenix and Payback shaking their heads, both turning to Rooster. “So,” Payback starts to say, “Anybody know what this special detachment is all about?”
“No, mission’s a mission,” Hangman replies, not taking his gaze off the pool table. “They don’t confront me. What I want to know: who’s gonna be team leader?” The balls clatter when he takes another shot after successfully pocketing the last ball. “And which one of y’all has what it takes to follow me?”
The look Rooster gives is one that reads, ‘you can’t be serious right now.’ “Hangman, the only place you’ll lead anyone is an early grave.” Though the music is playing it feels like one could hear a pin drop.
“Whoo!” Fanboy whistles, not even trying to hide the giggles falling from his lips. Phoenix was clutching the pool cue, staring at Rooster as if she could not believe he really said that. If Hangman was bothered, the man was doing a good job of not showing it. He simply grinned, walking up to Rooster and stopping so close they were practically toe to toe with one another.
“Well, anyone who follows you is just gonna run out of fuel. But that’s just you, ain’t it, Rooster? You’re snug on that perch, waiting for just the right moment…” Hangman steps closer, putting the cue in between them before finishing, “That never comes.” The next words to come from his mouth were cold and calculated, but what was that to stop him. Jake looks down to see Rooster’s left hand, where it was now vacant of a gold ring. “It’s a shame about you and the Missus—or should I say, former missus.”
That same hand then clutched into a fist, but that’s all it did. Behind Jake, Phoenix was glaring daggers into his back, checking on Rooster for his reaction while the others looked confused. It took a moment to realize what the blonde was implying. Hangman ramped up the tension when he added, “Say, you know I always wondered why her call sign was ‘Legacy.’ Interesting name. She wouldn’t tell me but said it had to do with her maiden name,” Hangman bites his lip while grinning, “Now that she’s not lady Bradshaw anymore, I’m looking forward to finding out the reason.”
“Watch it, Seresin,” Phoenix warned, but he ignored her. Rooster was her friend, and so was Barbara despite knowing Rooster longer. She didn’t appreciate the man making snide comments about their failed relationship.
When it appeared Rooster was not going to say anything back, Hangman smirked in a slight victory. “I love this song.” ‘Slow ride. Take it easy.’ As he walked away, Phoenix approached Rooster, both of them watching him as he went.
“Well, he hasn’t changed,” she says with no surprise.
“Nope,” he agrees, jaw still clenched from the last jab Hangman threw at him. “Sure hasn’t.” Getting an idea, Rooster walks away, leaving Phoenix by the table. She wanted to ask if he was alright, but decided against it.
Fanboy comes up to her, confusion coating his expression. “What the hell was that all about?” He gestures to Rooster and Hangman. Fanboy didn’t know either of them, but his curiosity peaked at the mention of someone called ‘Legacy’. “Who’s Legacy?”
Phoenix let out a sigh, setting the pool cue aside. “Rooster’s ex-wife, Barbara. She’s a naval pilot too—graduated from Top Gun three years ago right after their divorce.” Fanboy whistled lowly, not expecting that information.
“Damn. How long were they together?”
“Over seven years—married for five. They tied the knot after her commission, Rooster was already done with flight school by then. I think they dated for about two years before he proposed. Not really sure on the exact dates.”
Fanboy frowns, “What happened?” Phoenix glances over to Rooster who was walking in the direction of the jukebox. She gives a shrug and says, “He won’t say. Doesn’t really like to talk about it.” Fanboy nods, feeling sympathy for his fellow aviator.
“Why ‘Legacy’? That’s an usual call sign.” When he thought of the word, what came to mind was sorority girls or frat brothers who had parents in Greek life.
“Something about her family,” Phoenix answers. So he was right, it did have to deal with a parent. “She never talked much about her parents, but she told me once her mother was a civilian contractor for Top Gun and her dad was a pilot. Also her grandpa served, as did her Godfather. I guess in flight school that information spread, someone called her legacy and it stuck.”
Fanboy took in the information. He could understand how something like that would bestow that kind of call sign. It honestly intrigued him. Before he could ask another question, something else caught his eye. Gesturing to the entrance he said, “Check it out. More patches.”
Payback stands from the chair, coming up behind the two to see some fellow aviators, “That’s Harvard, Yale, Omaha.”
“What the hell kind of mission is this?” Fanboy questions, curious to know what he got himself into when he agreed to come back to North Island. Never had there been so many Top Gun graduates called back. The mission had to be a serious one.
“That’s not the question we should be asking,” Phoenix says to her fellow pilot. “Everyone here is the best there is. Who the hell are they gonna get to teach us?”
The card slaps down in front of Maverick, “It’s been declined,” Penny tells him. He gives a look of bewilderment, “You’re kidding.” There was no way it was empty. Had he not transferred over funds? Or did his last paycheck not go through?
Groans sounded around when the music was abruptly cut off. The culprit, none other than Rooster himself. Sunglasses on, despite being indoors, the aviator takes a seat in front of the piano, fingers go over the keys to play a light jazz. Phoenix hears the tone, smiling lightly as she calls out, “hey, guys. Come on.” Together they join Rooster, tossing the cue onto the table causing Hangman to throw his hands out as if to say, ‘Really?’
Meanwhile at the bar, Maverick is in a pickle. Not only was his card declined, but he was short on cash. Fishing out some 1s, and 5s, Penny just shakes her head at him, handing over the bill, “That won’t cover it.”
Taking the bill, his eyes go wide at the number listed at the bottom. Even before the evening rush there was a good amount of people in attendance. All who ordered a round on his tab. Trying to coax his way to a deal, Mav gives Penny a puppy-like look, “Uh, I’ll come by tomorrow and bring you the cash.”
A finger lifts to him, the woman moving over to the bell, “I’m afraid rules are rules, Pete.” Before he can plead with her, Penny swings the rope and lets the bell ring, resulting in the entire bar erupting in cheers. They begin to chant ‘overboard’ as Maverick lets his head drop in defeat, although he’s smiling throughout the entire exchange. “Really?”
Hangman, Payback, and Coyote pull up behind him, all three waiting for Penny’s signal. With a simple nod to the entrance, Maverick is hauled up with Payback and Hangman on each arm while Coyote takes his legs. All around are cheers and claps, “Overboard! Overboard!”
“Great to see you, Pete!” Penny shouts, grinning from ear to ear as he disappears from her sights. His back meets the harsh sand, a grunt escaping him while everyone cheers. Hangman salutes him, unaware that in less than 24 hours the man he just threw out would be his superior. “Thanks for the beers! Come back anytime!” The door shuts behind them, muffling the cheers as they continue in the now crowded tavern. All Mav could do was chuckle, brushing the sand off him when he rises from the ground.
He starts walking in the direction of his bike, but comes to a sudden halt when a familiar song reaches his ears.
“You shake my nerves, and you rattle my brain.
Too much love. Drives a man insane.
You Broke my will. But what a thrill.
Goodness gracious! Great balls of fire!”
Mav walks up to the window, peeking in to find Rooster seated at the piano while his fellow recruits dance and belt along the lyrics beside him. Goose’s favorite song. The one they sang together at the bar the time Carole and Bradley visited during their programme.
“I laughed at love. ‘Cause I thought it was funny.
But you came along. And you moved me, honey.
I changed my mind. This love is fine.
Goodness gracious! Great balls of fire!”
For a moment, it was no longer 2019. It was 1986 and a two year old Bradley Bradshaw was seated on top of the piano with a cowboy hat perched on his tiny head while his father, Nick, played the instrument below. In Nick’s lap was his beloved wife and Bradley’s mother, Carole, and beside them belting along the lyrics of ‘Great Balls Of Fire,’ was Pete and Charlie.
A happy memory, plagued with the tragic moment that occurred days later. Goose and Mav ejecting from the jet, but the canopy failing to open properly causing Goose to smash his head against the glass. The impact alone was enough to kill him. The man laid in Maverick’s arms as they floated in the water waiting to be rescued. He knew Goose was gone.
“God, he loved flying with you, Maverick,” he could still hear Carole’s pained voice as he watched her son. The happiness radiating from him was a spitting image of his father. The pilot had to look away, for there were tears welting in his eyes. Unbeknownst to him, Penny saw him from inside the bar, her gaze flicking from Maverick to Goose, realizing who the young man was to the aviator.
Feeling his knees start to buckle, Maverick pushed away from the window, tears threatening to fall from his eyes. Reaching up, he wiped away any residue that leaked out before walking away. The sun was setting, casting a dark blue across the horizon as nightfall began to emerge. The Captain made his leave. As he approached the parking lot where his bike was, he stopped short when he noticed the bike parked next to him.
It was the Ducati he gifted Barbara when she got her motorcycle license at eighteen.
“I should’ve known it’d be you,” her voice came from the side, sending a wave of anxiety through Maverick as he stiffened. It had been so long since he heard it, and when he slowly turned to find her seated at the picnic table, Mav felt his shoulders drop.
Recently promoted Lieutenant Barbara ‘Legacy’ Mitchell stared back at him with an unreadable expression. A cigarette in hand and aviators perched on her head, the black haired beauty adorned a leather jacket similar to Mav’s with several patches lining its sides. A patch with her call sign was nested on her left breast reading, ‘Legacy’.
“Barb,” he whispered, watching her take a puff of the cigarette and holding her breath before slowly letting the smoke out. He hated the fact she smoked, and part of him believed she did it to spite him.
The woman didn’t greet her father. Instead she pointed her gaze at the beach in front of her, “When Ice told me I was being called back here, and what all to expect, I should’ve known he’d have you as the instructor. What I didn’t expect,” more smoke left her mouth, eyes going back to the man, ''was you to actually agree.”
Unsure of what to say, seeing it was going on four years since he’d seen his daughter, Mav cleared his throat, “Didn’t really have a choice in the matter.”
“Let me guess,” she raised her brow, but there was not a flicker of surprise as she added, “You went against orders, pissed off an Admiral, was probably gonna get sacked once and for all, and being here is what lets you stay in the air. Am I on the right track?”
Mav bit back a smirk. Barb knew him too well—well, at least knew his routine. Instead he gave a curt nod, glancing at the ocean briefly, “Can’t really say you’re not. You know me too well.”
“I don’t know you at all,” she snaps, causing the smile to drop from his face. Barb extinguishes the bud on the table and flicks it into the trash beside the table. “I know Captain Mitchell. The Navy’s infamous pilot with a record that’s distinguished despite his tendencies to act unorthodox. That’s all I’ve ever known from you.”
As much as he hated to admit it, it was the truth. The relationship between Charlie and Maverick fell through shortly after Barabara’s birth in 1989. Due to his status as a fighter pilot and rarely being stateside, Barbara was raised in D.C with her mother, Charlie. It was rare for Maverick to get time off and visit his daughter. Mostly in the summertime or around the holidays did he manage to get a few days of leave, but on average it was twice a year that Barabar spent time with her father. And when she did, all Mav did was take Barbara flying and teach her all there was about the Navy and their family.
It was how she fell in love with aviation. It made her feel a connection to her father, something she longed for as a child. Her mother taught her a lot about astrophysics and engineering, but Barbara loved to take to the skies. From a young age she knew she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps and continue his legacy. She thought it was what he wanted. Why he spent so much time teaching her the basics on how to fly and expressing his love for the Navy.
But that wasn’t the case. He didn’t want her flying. The same way he didn’t want Bradly flying either.
And that started the first wave of strain between father and daughter. The second wave came when Barb joined the Naval ROTC program at Vanderbilt university. Had she applied for the Naval Academy her father would’ve known. So, she applied to schools with NROTC and kept it from him until the letter came from Vanderbilt with a full ride to their program. Barbara would’ve kept her entire college career a secret, but her father managed to find out from her mother. That put a second dent in their relationship.
Shortly after Barbara reconnected with Bradley when the Naval Academy played Vanderbilt in football. It had been years since they saw each other, the last being around the time he had graduated high school and first applied to the Naval Academy. She never heard what had happened, so it surprised her to see him there as an undergraduate when she had expected him to already be a commissioned officer. He was a senior already in his mid twenties while Barb was a sophomore having just turned twenty.
Their reunion was anything but a happy one which had Barb confused. Bradley was displeased to see her and pretty much ignored her when she tried to talk to him. Eventually he got his head out of his ass when she went off on him by saying, “I don’t know what the fuck your problem is Bradshaw, but if has anything to do with my dad—which wouldn’t surprise me— then it’s unfair to treat me like this since I don’t know what the fuck he did to make you this angry.” Believing her words, Bradley invited her to lunch to explain what happened. It angered Barbara, for who was her father to have the right to do such a thing to Bradley.
Although they two didn’t see each other much after that weekend, the two kept in touch through email and phone calls. They would update each other on school and their programs, Bradley’s upcoming graduation, and their excitement to go to flight school and start their careers. Barbara wasn’t sure when her feelings for Bradley started. He was older, roughly by six or seven years and she only ever saw him once in a blue moon growing up whenever she’d fly to visit her dad when he’d try to spend time with both Bradley and her. As a young girl she found Bradley cute, but he of course paid no mind to her except when she’d join in on little adventures with him and Maverick. All she knew was she’d get butterflies in her stomach whenever he laughed at something she said or recounted a small detail she told him weeks prior. Then when he sent an invite to his graduation, Barbara swore her heart skipped a beat and she was doing the most in order to look her best the day of.
For Bradley, he realized his feelings for Barbara about eight months after their first meeting. He suddenly found himself looking forward to their phone calls, reading her emails, and felt a longing to see her again. It’s why he invited her to his graduation. And then again to his commissioning ceremony. Seeing her there, looking absolutely ethereal, sealed the deal for Bradley. At his commission he formally asked her out and thus started their relationship that lasted almost eight years.
Bradley went straight to flight school, and Barb followed two years later after her graduation and commissioned—which Bradley got time off to attend. At some point—probably when the two were drunk and in a festive mood, Bradley proposed. It was a spur of the moment decision, but he loved Barbara with his whole heart. And she loved him too. Once Barb said yes, the two went on a whim and drove up to the courthouse with Charlie and Natasha as their witnesses.
Maverick had no idea. It wasn’t until he popped in to visit Barbara out of the blue at her first duty station, hoping to make amends for the way he behaved four years earlier, and found Rooster there….and rings on their fingers. One photo of them at the courthouse combined with Barbara’s embarrassed expression was enough to put the pieces together. Rooster took it upon himself to leave saying he’d be back later that afternoon, but not before kissing her right there in front of Mav.
And so a third and permanent dent was put between the two. One that was not so easily forgiven. “Why the hell wouldn’t you tell me? Did you not want me there?” “It’s not like you would have come, Pete.” “You don’t know that!” “Fine, here’s the truth: Rooster didn’t want you there and honestly neither did I. We’re happy, and I don’t need your seal of approval on what I do. You were rarely there for me and when you were all it was ‘planes this, planes that’ and ‘Navy this, Navy that.’ You didn’t bother actually being a father, Pete.” Yeah, it was true when they said words hurt.
It only brought more strain. Soon it would impact her own relationship. Barbara completed flight school and unfortunately like most military marriages where both parties are active duty, the two were separated on different assignments. They made it work for the most part. Everyday they texted or emailed and when they got time to call or Skype they would. By that time Barbara had garnered her own reputation in the Navy, not just because of who her father was, but because she herself tended to act unorthodox. It was no wonder why her fellow aviators in flight school dubbed her ‘Legacy’. She didn’t know how they found out about her parentage, at the time she went by Barbara Bradshaw, but it didn’t matter. They’d find out sooner or later.
But the topic of Maverick would come up and each time it never ended well. Rooster still held resentment for him pulling his application. For Barbara, as much as she was angry at her father for various reasons, she still loved him. There was still a longing to have that father-daughter relationship she desired as a kid. When talking to her mother about it, Charlie offered the advice of, ‘It won’t be fixed if you do nothing about it. Talk to him, hear him out, and also take responsibility for your actions.” That night Barbara called Maverick, without telling her husband, and had a two hour conversation with her apologizing for not telling him about Rooster and Mav for his reaction to her career plans.
Barbara eventually told Rooster about her conversation with her father that weekend over Skype. She was hesitant, and judging by the look on his face when she told him she was correct to assume he would not be happy. All he said was, “You know how I feel about him. I’m not gonna stop you from talking to your dad, Barb, that’s on you. But I just ask that you don’t expect me to forgive him anytime soon.”
Years passed and things had slowly become complicated. Rooster went off to Top Gun, Barb was promoted to LTJG, and their jobs became more demanding. Although they finally got a duty station together, they hardly spent time together. At one point the topic of kids came up after a colleague had mentioned it at a dinner party. It resulted in it never being brought up again. If they wanted kids, well, one person would have to either leave the Navy or change their job because having both parents as fighter pilots while raising kids was impossible. And neither of them were ready to give that up just yet. In the last year of their marriage, they would go days without talking to each other, even if they were both home.
The year 2016 proved to be the one that would ultimately end the relationship once and for all. And it was because Barb had finally had enough with the deal between Maverick and Rooster and took it upon herself to confront her father. A decision she would regret.
“Tell me,” she demanded as they sat in a booth at a bar close to the base. Maverick had gotten leave and decided to drop by, so Barb used what little time she had as the opportunity to get the truth. “Tell me why you pulled his application, dad. Why would you stop him from flying when you knew that’s all he ever wanted to do?”
She watched him bring a hand up to rub his face. “You don’t want to know, Barb.” His words only angered her more, the woman scoffing as she narrowed her eyes.
“The hell I don’t! Bradley trusted you—he looked at you like a father, and you betrayed him like that?” She refused to accept that Maverick would hurt the man he saw as a son without good reason. If there was a good reason for it.
“He wasn’t ready,” Mav gave the excuse, though it had some truth to it.
“That wasn’t for you to decide,” she snapped, leaning forward against the table slightly. “And even if it was, that still isn’t a good excuse to pull his papers. You’re hiding something else.” Barb could see it in the way he kept turning from her, clenching his jaw, and attempting to change the subject. There was another reason behind why he did it.
“Look,” Mav sighed, giving his daughter a stern warning. “If you knew the real reason why I did what I did, you wouldn’t want him knowing either. So by telling you, you’re putting yourself in a position where you can either break his heart with the truth,” he paused, hating how there was now an ultimatum on the table. “Or, you spare him the pain by taking it to the grave.”
Barbara should have let it go after Mav dropped that on her. But, like the stubborn pilot, the young Mitchell was relentless and believed it was up to her then to decide for herself. Initially, she was going to tell Rooster the truth because she believed he deserved to know. But then the words came out, and Barb felt her heart and stomach sink as it went down the drain. There was no way she could tell Rooster now, and judging by Mavericks' expression the older man immediately regretted confessing. And she didn’t blame him because now she felt the burden of the secret.
For months Barbara kept it hidden. Rooster was overseas on an assignment and would not be back for some time. When they would call, Barb played it off like normal. Although they ended up doing voice calls rather than Skype, her excuse being the internet service was acting up. Barb felt it in herself that she’d break if she looked into those hazel eyes of his. She proved herself correct when he returned at the end of the summer and immediately Rooster could tell something was up. Her body language was off, the tone in her voice sounded unsure.
“What is it?” He asked a few days later, catching her off guard. In the five years they’d been married and almost seven as a couple, Bradley was pretty much a pro at picking up on signals from his wife. Barbara was stubborn and good at masking her emotions, but the man could see past it. “You’ve been acting weird since I got here.”
“It’s nothing, Bradley,” Barb assured, but her voice betrayed her. Quickly she gave the excuse, “I’ve had a long week. The test run I mentioned last week didn’t go as planned. That’s it.” She felt his eyes in the back of her head as she washed the dishes in the sink.
“Whenever something is bothering you and you don’t want to tell me, you always turn your back to me so I can’t see your face.” The patter of feet against the wooden floors indicated he was walking up to her. “You can’t fool me, Barbara.” What followed involved a screaming match, accusations, and finally, Bradley packing a bag before slamming the front door behind him.
There was no formal separation between the two. Hell it wasn’t even a verbal agreement of divorce. For weeks Bradley ignored her calls, her emails, he had his friends give excuses when Barb reached out to them to get him to talk to her. Then one day she decided to go to his work, fed up with him ignoring her and witnessed him getting a little close with a female colleague. All Barb could see was Bradley leaning against the wall while a pretty blonde stood next to him, laughing at something he said before lightly tapping him against the chest. The gesture looked anything but friendly. And judging by the smirk on her husband's face, he enjoyed it.
It sent daggers into Barbara’s heart, turning on her heel to escape before he saw her. She cried the entire drive home, but took a break to put on a serious face when she stopped at the legal office before making a call to her Godfather, Iceman. The next day, to Bradley’s surprise and the shock of his coworkers, he was served divorce papers. When he arrived at the house that afternoon to confront her, another shock came at the sight of boxes and suitcases where Barbara informed him she was being transferred to the Pacific Fleet.
That was the last night Barbara and Bradley saw each other. Harsh words were thrown at each other—the woman literally threw a water bottle at Rooster during the heat of the argument when he insulted her. He easily avoided it, but the act itself increased his anger. Once again Bradley was the first to leave, but not before he signed the papers and spat, “Have a nice life, Mitchell.”
Talk about adding salt to the wound. It didn’t help that Barbara hadn’t spoken to her father in months. Months that would soon turn to years.
Now here the two were. Finally face to face after so long with little to no explanation why Barbara suddenly stopped talking to Maverick after the day she squeezed the truth out of him. The music from inside continued. Even outside, Barbara could make out the voice of her ex-husband. He always stood out when he sang that song.
“Brings back memories, doesn’t it?” She says, reaching into her pocket to pull out another cigarette. Using her jacket to block out the wind, she ignites it before pocketing the lighter. “I saw you at the window.”
Mav felt a lump in his throat, looking down at his feet. Goose entered his mind and the wave of emotion hit him like a brick. He changed the subject, which probably was a bad idea but he had to take the chance while he had it. “What happened, Barbara?”
She doesn’t look at him when she answers, jaw tight and attention on the empty beer bottle in front of her. “Exactly what you said,” the chuckle she gave was anything but humorous. “I did it to myself. You were right—I should’ve never asked you why you did it.”
Maverick sighed, feeling his heart break at her confession. “I’m so sorry, honey. Does he—.”
“No,” she cut him off swiftly. “I couldn’t bring myself to tell him. That's why he walked out.” Biting her lip and looking away from her father, she adds, “And I let him. Because I knew deep down he would never forgive me—for not telling him after I went behind his back and confronted you. It brought on another dose of betrayal.” Barbara finishes her second cigarette with a long drag before extinguishing it.
“It wasn’t going to work anyway,” Barbara stands from the picnic table, moving to stand in front of Maverick. She was wearing heeled boots that made her taller than her natural five foot two and a half inch stature. She was small for the average pilot, but made the height requirements by half an inch. “You know how it is—husband and wife, both active duty in demanding fields with little to no time spent together. The topic of kids being a sore subject, plus a father-in-law that the husband can’t stand? I’m surprised we lasted as long as we did.”
“Don’t think of it like that, Barbara,” Maverick scolded, upset with her view of the marriage. Frowning, he stepped closer to the woman, but she shook her head.
“How else am I supposed to think of it?” She questioned rhetorically. “It didn’t work for you and mom, it wasn’t going to work for me and him.”
“What happened between your mom and I was complicated,” Mav told her. “We tried our best that year after you were born, and most of it was on me as you know.” He really did try. He loved and cared for Charlie, but marriage was not in the cards for Mav at the time. It was still young in his career and although the birth of Barbara was a surprise, he still was over the moon and tried to make the relationship work for the sake of their daughter. In the end, he and Charlie wanted different things and had to go their separate ways. “But I never stopped caring for Charlie—and I’ll always have a part of me that loves her. And just because it didn’t work out for us, doesn’t mean it will always be like that for you, Barbara.”
She was silent for a moment. Maverick stood still, unsure of what she was thinking. He wanted to hug her. It was tempting to just pull her into his arms and hold her like he did when she was a child. It had been so long since they did that he feared how she’d react. Pushing the thought away, Mav heard her exhale and say, “It doesn’t matter anymore. There’s other things to worry about than my tragic love life. I’ll see you tomorrow, Captain.”
It felt like a knife was thrown to his chest. It was always like that when Barbara referred to him as his rank or name instead of ‘dad’. It was like she no longer saw him as such. “Barbara!” He shouted as she mounted her bike and kicked the stand up. Glancing up to him, her face remained stoic. With a slight cough to clear his throat, Mav tried to smile but it didn’t work. Instead his face almost looked like he was pleading with her to not push him away again. “It’s good to see you.”
The light breeze swept through her hair, and Barbara gave a short nod. “It’s good to see you too.” The roar of the engine came to life and Mav watched her pull away from the lot before speeding down the road and disappearing around the corner. The sun had finally set, stars twinkling in the sky and the only light was from the moon shining down on the sea and the bar behind him.
With a heavy sigh, the pilot adjusted his jacket and mounted his own bike. He gave one last look to the bar before starting the engine and taking off on the same road Barbara had traveled.
What a day it had been for the veteran aviator. It started with him getting transfered, returning to Top Gun for the first time in 30 years, reuniting with his ex, and finally seeing Rooster and Barbara again. Now with one reunion down, he had one to go.
The next morning, Barbara Mitchell dressed in her flight suit to start her day by attending the first briefing and training. She didn’t know what to expect. After the previous night's conversation with her father and knowing he was to be the instructor for the next three weeks, Barbara realized she was going to have to push her limits like she’s never done before if she wanted to prove she was worthy of the mission.
Growing up, Maverick taught her the basics and how to perfect them so that by the time she went to flight school she was already more advanced than her classmates. The young Mitchell took it upon herself to learn aerial combat—when she was not supposed to—and managed to fly her way to the top of her class at Top Gun years later. With years of experience and having Iceman as her superior for the past few years, Barbara proved herself again and again to those who underestimated that she was the best there was.
It was Iceman who told her Rooster would be one of the candidates for the mission. He warned her the same time he informed that she was also selected. It sparked a sense of dread in the aviator. It was one thing to have to reunite with her ex-husband for the first time in three years, it was another to have to compete against him for a spot on the six-man team. With her father as the instructor, it was going to be an interesting three weeks.
Having opted out of going inside The Hard Deck last night, arriving at the hangar was the first time she became acquainted with her fellow candidates. “Well, well well,” Hangman’s voice was the first to reach her ears, “Just who I was hoping to see on this fine Wednesday morning.” While they waited for the instructors, the officers took seats at the tables provided in the middle of the hangar. Barbara was the last to arrive.
It brought a cheeky grin to Hangman’s face, giving a brief glance to Rooster, who had his head turned to the side. The lieutenant stood from his chair, meeting Barbara halfway up the aisle of tables. The first thing he did was look at her name patch, where the name ‘Mitchell’ was embroidered. Jake smirked, towering over the small brunette, “Lieutenant Barbara Mitchell.”
The woman narrowed her eyes, but greeted the man nonetheless, “Seresin.” Turning her head to the left, she makes eye contact with Natasha, “Hey, Phee.”
Nat gives a small smile with a nod, “Hey, C.” Barb tilts her head to the man with glasses behind the woman, “Who’s your friend.”
“That’s Bob, WSO.” The man in question lightly lifts a hand in a small wave, offering a smile to Barb. She smiles back, throwing a wink which has him blushing. “Those two hunks are Payback and Fanboy—I don’t think you’ve met them yet.”
“I have not,” she looks past Hangman to see the two men. They both give a gesture in greeting. “Nice to meet ya, fellas.”
“Same to you,” Payback replies and Fanboy nods in agreement. Barbara pays no mind to the man seated on her right, instead going to the open chair in the front next to Hangman’s. She ignores the looks they give Rooster, throwing down her wallet and keys on the table and plopping down on the chair.
Hangman sits beside her, leaning close and aware of the daggers being sent to his back from Rooster. “So, Mitchell—gosh that’s gonna take some getting used to,” It took everything in Barb to stop herself from throwing a punch to his jaw. They were in uniform and on the job. Now was not the time to get a demerit. “This is probably not the time to ask—.”
“Then don’t ask, Seresin,” she hissed in warning, assuming the question involved Rooster. He raised his hands in defense as he chuckled, “Hey, hey, now I’m not trying to dig up an old can of worms, but I’m just curious you know.” He gestured to her patch, “Can’t you let a fella in on what the secret is behind your call sign? I’ve only ever known you as Mrs. Bradshaw—but that couldn’t have been it.” He leans back to wink at an infuriated Rooster.
Barbara tsks, staring ahead at the large American flag draped in front of her. “Nice to see you haven’t changed at being a pain in the ass. You’re lucky we’re in uniform, Hangman, otherwise I would wipe that damn smirk off your face. Didn’t your momma ever tell you to mind your business once in a while?” she said in a low tone, but the whole company heard. In the back Coyote let out a whistle while Fanboy, Phoenix and Bob held back laughter. Rooster even had to stop himself from smirking.
Before Hangman could respond, the whole hangar was brought to attention at the shout of, “Attention on deck!!” The Admirals march in, Warlock taking to the podium while Cyclone comes to a halt beside Hondo.
“Morning,” Warlock greets the officers. “Welcome to your special training detachment. Be seated.” Chairs squeak as the group falls back to a sitting position, posture straight and attention on the admiral. “I’m Admiral Bates, NAWDC commander. You’re all TOPGUN graduates. The elite. The best of the best,” many grin at his praises, but they soon frown when he then says, “That was yesterday. The enemy's new fifth-generation fighter has leveled the playing field. Details are few, but you can be sure we no longer possess the technological advantage. Success, now more than ever, comes down to the man or woman in the box.” Still grinning, Hangman bids a look to Legacy before doing the same to Phoenix.
“Half of you will make the cut. One of you will be named mission leader. The other half will remain in reserve. Your instructor is a TOPGUN graduate with real world experience in every mission aspect you will be expected to master,” Barbara tenses, clutching the pen in her hand when she hears the soft sound of footsteps approaching. Warlock continues, “His exploits are legendary. And he’s considered to be one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced.”
In the corner of her eye Barbara sees Hangman turn in his chair, at first excited to see the instructor. But then the second he realizes who the man walking up the aisle was, the blonde brings a hand to his face and turns away in embarrassment. Having witnessed him, Coyote, and Payback throw her father out of the bar the previous night, it took every inch of her soul to not react at their shame. They were about to find out who he was to her, and she knew it was going to have everyone looking at her differently.
“What he has to teach you may very well mean the difference between life and death. I give you Captain Pete Mitchell,” the second the last name leaves Warlock's mouth, Handman’s head is snapping towards her. He’s not the only one. Phoenix’s expression is one of shock, as is Fanboy’s. Payback whistles under his breath, and Bob just looks confused—not really putting two and two together just yet. But Barbara remains stoic, unreactive. “Call sign: ‘Maverick’.”
Maverick replaces Warlock at the podium, “Good morning,” he smiles at the group, particularly at the three who threw him out of the hard deck the night before. They all smile back, embarrassment and awkwardness in the gesture. Hangman gives another glance to Barbara when he catches Maverick nodding to her. Then the man looks at Rooster, who turns away from his gaze with an unreadable expression.
With a thick book in his hand, Maverick draws everyone's attention to it as he lifts it level with his head, “The F-18 NATOPS.” He pats the top before placing it onto the podium. “It contains everything they want you to know about your aircraft. I’m assuming you know the book inside and out.”
“Damn right!” Payback shouts with pride. Others follow in suit with “Damn straight.” “You got it!”
Maverick nods, smiling before surprising them all—minus Barbara—by dropping the book into the trash can beside him. Barbara shakes her head, expecting it from her father. Cyclone and Warlock share a look. “So does your enemy.”
“And we’re off,” Hondo sighs from the side. Like the Captain’s daughter, Hondo had worked with Maverick long enough to know how he played.
“But what the enemy doesn’t know is your limits. I intend to find them, test them, push beyond.” Feeling the pressure rise, some candidates straighten their posture. Mav looks at each of them as he lists off the day's plans, but his eyes linger on both Rooster and Barbara, “Today we’ll start with what you only think you know. You show me what you’re made of.”
When they are dismissed and Mav takes the chance to leave the podium, the sound of Hangman’s light laughter captures everyone’s attention. “Something funny, Lieutenant?”
Still seated, Hangman licks his lip before saying, “Oh nothing, Captain Mitchell. I think I just got my answer to why our Legacy here,” he turns his head to Barbara, whose jaw was tight and looking anywhere but him. “Got her name in the first place.”

A/N: I gave reader a nickname to kind of play around with it. so far both chapters are pretty lighthearted but it will start to get darker in the next few chapters. This is going to be between 9 and 20 chapters. Idk where this story is going exactly so strap in. If you catch any grammar or spelling mistakes please feel free to either PM me or comment. I don't have a beta reader.
Wordcount: 2,947
Summary: Plus size!Reader is a Beekeeper and Medical Scientist living in Jackson. A simple meeting of a new friend slowly becomes so much more. Reader is immune. Reader is given a nickname. (This fic will have very dark tones though out. This deals with the unfortunate reality that men do disgusting things to women regardless of the world having ended. All chapters will include warnings and tag warnings. Please take care in reading.)
The sun rose slowly over the hills and trees as you sleepily walked around the kitchen. Already dressed and ready for spending the day in your barn. It doubles as storage and a lab. It’s where you spend a good chunk of time making any medications you can for the town. Some are more from just herbs and others are straight from a pharmacologist textbook. Luckily even in an apocalyptic world you had or could find the resources to make more modern medicines.
As you pour some fresh lemonade into a glass and bite into some toast you hear a knock at the door. You weren’t expecting anyone specific today so your body froze for a moment, hand hovering over the knife on your hip. Another knock comes to the door and you slowly approach and peep through the small window on the door. It was Joel and a young girl. Quickly you unlock the door and swing it open with a smile on your face. “Hey Mr.Miller! How are you settling in?”
“We are settling in alright, ready to get started on that barn of yours. Brought Ellie here too, hope thats alright.” He pats Ellie’s back before turning his attention back to you.
“That is absolutely fine, Its good to meet you Ellie, I’m Bunny.” You held out your hand to the younger girl. She shook it enthusiastically with a smile.
“Joel said you made all that stuff in the basket, It was so good!” Her energy levels this early in the morning nearly made you want to turn around and close the door, but she was being so sweet. “Do you have a bunch of bees here? Joel said you harvest the honey yourself, do you have one of those bee suits?”
Her questions were only slightly overwhelming due to the early morning. Sighing with a smile you nod, “I can show you later. I don’t really need the suit anymore for my hives but you will definitely need to wear it to meet the bees.” You look from her to Joel hoping to have his approval as well. Ellie doing the same.
He looks between the two hopeful faces and nods, “Lets take a look at that barn first so I can get started and I’ll let you off the hook. You gotta promise to listen to Miss Bunny here and be safe.” He fixes Ellie with a stern look before she nods back.
You can’t help but smile at the two before sliding out the door yourself and starting to lead them through the garden and back to the large barn at the back of the property. Hidden behind apple and lemon trees sits the old red building. It looks to be only held up by the few sturdy poles and one side of the barn is starting to cave in slightly. You hear a low whistle come from behind you and a “Holy shit” in a hushed tone from Ellie.
“I know she doesn’t look great but I’ve at least kept her standing for the last few years.” Your turn to look at the pair sheepishly. “I’ve lived here since I was 18. There was a big storm about 3 years ago and nearly took the barn out. I’ve tried fixing it but I know nothing about construction.”
Joel moves about the side of the building and scratches at the back of his head. “I’m surprised shes still standing at all. I mean no offense by that its just the damage itself looks pretty extensive and this is just the outside.”
“I take no offense to it Mr. Miller, If you can fix it I’d greatly appreciate it. Its a pretty important building. Not only to me but to the town too.” You go to lead him inside to show him. He and Ellie follow with some confusion. As you slide open the big door the building creaks and whines. Its only supports wanting to finally give in and the newer ones you’ve placed taking the rest of the weight. One side of the building is purely food and medical storage for the town that has yet to be transported to the clinic and town kitchen. The other half looks like a fully functional lab. Beakers and jars everywhere on chemistry desks that look to have been taken either from a high school or college science room. “Please forgive the mess I was going to make more rounds of antibiotics and saline fluid bags for the clinic today.”
“You can MAKE the medicine?” Ellie’s excitement launches her into a million questions after you nod. The list of questions just keep pouring out about how you do it and what do you use. How long it takes and do you use this tool? She leaves no room for you to answer any of it so your mouth just hangs open slightly waiting for a moment to answer any of it. That is if you can remember any of the questions.
Joel seems to catch on quickly to what is happening and he decides to speak up, “Ellie quit with all the questions give her time to answer.” He has an eyebrow raised at her as she stops. “And put that down. Don’t need ya gettin’ hurt.” She puts the flint lighter back down on the counter with a pointed look at Joel and then gives you an apologetic look and a soft apology.
You take a deep breath and take the next 30 minutes to go over some of Ellie’s questions as Joel continues his inspection. He takes notes on every major fix that needs done only pausing every few minutes to make sure Ellie doesn’t go off on another tangent. The only reason you stop answering Ellie’s questions is Joel coming over to show you his list.
“Are you sure we can’t just knock it down and rebuild it? The is going to be even more work and take a lot longer if we don’t just start over.” He looks sympathetic as he notices your features drop from the excitement of talking with Ellie to that familiar sadness in his own eyes.
A small sigh escapes you, “I’m sorry we don’t have the recourses to spare to fully rebuild it. And even if we did I don’t think I could say goodbye to this barn. Like I said its important to me. Do you think its stable enough to fix?” You look to him a hope he’ll say yes.
He takes the list back and sucks in a breath. Before the world had ended he would have said no and still suggested to rebuild it instead. He took another look over at the supports you added in yourself and the roof and wall sagging in, the window at this point completely missing. The air he held in his lungs releases again as he looks back to you, “With your supports added in… I can fix that.”
Its only an hour later that Joel returns with a truck full of materials, tools, and Tommy to assist with getting started. Ellie insisted on staying with you to learn more about what you did and help with the days chores. The last 16 years you had done it all yourself so it took a lot of convincing from both Ellie and Joel to accept. He and Tommy were unloading the truck next to the barn when you approached the two with a tall cool glass in each hand. Ellie still content harvesting green beans in the garden. “Tommy, Mr. Miller Thanks for all this.” She handed each of them their drinks.
Tommy immediately drinking the refreshing liquid and Joel watching to see what it might be. He simply nods to Joel to drink. He hesitantly takes a sip and is surprised to find its sweet tea and mint. He takes another bigger gulp of the amber drink. “It’s no problem Miss Bunny, Thank you for the tea and all the food you gave us. Its very kind of you. Ain’t had anything this good in decades.”
Tommy’s eyes widen and he gives an incredulous look at his brother before Bunny is talking again. “That’s very kind thank you…I’ll uh leave you guys to it then if you need anything I’ll be with Ellie in the garden.” You smile at the two and start walking back to help Ellie who is already excitedly talking and trying to show you her haul of green beans.
Joel watches for a moment as he continues to sip the tea in hand. It’s not till he hears a cough from next to him that he snaps out of his trance and looks back at his brother who’s still giving him a look. “What? What’s that look for?”
“Miss Bunny?” He gestures to the woman across the property.
Joel looks from his brother back to her and then back to his brother, “Yeah? What about it? I’m just bein’ friendly. You told me when we got here these were all good people and to be nice. So I am.”
Tommy gives him another pointed look, “That ain’t just bein’ nice, you are flirting. And you are horrible at it. And you let her call you Mr. Miller. You ain’t ever let anyone call you that.”
“I ain’t flirtin’…” Joel gives his brother a fixed look back. “I ain’t…”
“You don’t sound so sure to me.” Tommy ignores his brother’s huffs and continues unloading the truck and assisting his brother in repairs for the rest of the day.
It’s nearly sundown when you and Ellie wrap up making dinner after spending the first part of the day doing chores around the farm. As reserved as you are she found a way to weasel into your heart quickly. You chalk it up to having been so lonely the last few years only having a real friendship with Maria and Tommy. You are friendly with the other people in town but you don’t feel the need to go any further in getting to know them. Ellie excitedly talks your ear off as the two of you set up the dinner on the picnic table outside, Tommy and Joel approach as they each wipe the sweat from their faces.
“What’s all this?” Tommy asks as they reach the table.
“We cooked dinner! Bunny showed me a bunch of stuff on cooking with seasoning. Did you know she makes her own seasonings too? Like she makes everything from scratch not much of it is found from outside the walls.” Ellie’s broad smile gives you more hope for a future where people can heal and go back to a more normal way of life.
“Well that’s awesome, Sorry I can’t stay. Gotta get back to Maria.” Tommy gives your arm a reassuring squeeze.
You chuckle lightly, “That's alright I already figured as much. We made enough for you to take back with you for Maria too. I know how much she likes roasted chicken and veggies.” You pull another weaved basket from the bench and hand it to Tommy. “I also put one of those cakes she likes so much in there.”
“You are a saint, Ya’ll have a wonderful dinner. I’ll be back to help Joel again in a couple days.” With a quick goodbye to everyone Tommy is in his truck and back on his way home.
It isn’t long before the three of you were sitting and chatting about the day and how they are liking Jackson so far. Plates full of food and glasses full of more Sweet Tea.
“So are you going to be going to the school they have here or just jumping straight into a trade?” You take another bite of your veggies as you wait for Ellie to answer.
She rolls her eyes and sinks a little as she answers, “Joel said I have to do school until I’m at least 17. But I think I can just hop in on patrol. It’s not like I’ll use any of that other stuff.”
You couldn’t help but giggle slightly, “Yeah I thought that growing up too. I actually ended up using it a lot. Especially my science courses. Without knowing any of that and math I wouldn’t be able to make medicine for the town or hell even farm.”
“But don’t you just put seeds in the ground and water them?” She seems genuine in her question which made it all the more obvious her previous education was probably more so rooted in survival and combat.
Joel beat you to the answer, “Its a lot more complicated than that Ellie. A lot more steps most rural schools use to have year long classes around just farming not to mention cattle care and environmental sciences.” Ellie looks to you for confirmation.
Conversation continued to flow the rest of the way through dinner. As you started cleaning up Ellie and Joel followed in suit behind you. The way back into the house just barely still being lit up the quickly descending sun. Turning on the lights as you set the final dishes in the sink to be washed later you spoke back up, “Thanks again for doing this Joel. You don’t understand how much it means to me that the barn sticks around.”
“Well I’ll do my best. I wasn’t lyin’ when I said it would take a while to fix. Even if I’m here all day everyday it’ll take 2 months at a minimum.” Joel’s response sure and confident.
“It’s worth it in the end. Which brings me to the next order of business. Your payment.” You disappear past the archway into your living room.
“You've already given us so much ain’t no need to give us anything else.” Him and Ellie follow you into the living room of the ranch style home.
“Non-sense, you both have put in more than 8 hours of work. Thats worth more than just some food.” You pulled the boxes from the coffee table and handed one to each of them. “I would have given you each more if I knew Ellie was coming to work too. So its not much but its better than what I know they probably left you with in that old house.”
Ellie opened hers first and pulls the fabric from the box. “Whoa did you make this? Its so soft!”
You smile at the girl’s reaction. “I did. These are only summer quilts. They’ll keep you more cool through the night but still have some weight to them. Makes you feel just a little bit safer at night.”
Joel opened his and ran his hand over the fabric. It looked like it was made from new fabric too. Plain colors like Ellie’s his in dark greens and creams versus the deep reds and grays of hers. All Joel could do was thank you and have Ellie do the same before parting ways for the night and heading home.
~~~
Joel spent that night covered in the new blanket. He fell asleep much faster than he had in years and without the need of medication and booze. She was right. The weight of the blanket did make him feel just a little bit safer. Him and Ellie would spend the next 2 months going through the same routine of waking up and helping you with chores around the farm. However some days you insisted you still needed to make some of the medications for the town. Joel and Ellie would respect that however both refused days off and would still do what they could to help you. If you were working in the barn they would spend the day transporting what needed taken to the clinic and town kitchen.
You had gotten use to Ellie’s constant company and enjoyed teaching her all about your farm and the bees. Before long you dreaded the goodbye at the end of the night. You’d draw out dinner as long as you could. Sometimes simply enjoying sitting silently listening to Ellie go on about one of her particular interests or tell funny stories about Joel over the time the two have known each other. You loved most the way he’d poke little jokes back at her and tell his own short stories of Ellie. The look each of them had in their eyes while talking with each other. Joel’s looks of proud father and Ellie’s smug look that can only be a result of father daughter bonding. It felt good to be a part of it, but all good things come to an end. Tonight was the last night Joel and Ellie would both be there. Ellie was going to start school tomorrow.
It was Joel that finally decided it was time to head home for the day. “Alright kiddo. I think we’ve stayed long enough. You have school tomorrow.”
Ellie puts on her signature pout. “Fine. But I can come over after school again tomorrow?”
Joel looks back over to you in a quiet question. You nod to him that its up to him. “Alright but bring your homework and do that first before to do anything else.”
Ellie groans and you all start standing from the table. “Alright well I guess I’ll just give you guys the weekly payment and then let you go for the night.” You pulled the same basket you’d been giving to the pair weekly with extra goodies back out and handed it to Joel. Your hands brushing against each other as you hand off the basket. You lead the two to the front door and lean against the frame as you bid them a goodnight.
Good Guess
Gregory Goyle x reader
(It’s based off of when Ron and Harry used the poly juice potion in their second year but I guess it could take place in any year really.)
You had just left the great hall after dinner and made your way to the library. It probably wasn’t the best time, but you needed a few books for an assignment. After finding the books you made your way to the Slytherin common room.
As you were walking there you found Percy Weasley with your friends, Draco and Crabbe. And Goyle, with glasses? You made your way up to them and greeted everyone. Once you got to Goyle, you wrapped your arms around him and kissed him on the cheek. You noticed that he tensed a bit instead of hugging you back.
“Are you okay Goyle?” You asked him.
He nodded his head yes.
“Okay… then why do you have glasses?”
“Um… for reading,” he answered.
“Reading?”
Goyle never told you he owned a pair of glasses, and when you were talking to him earlier that day he told you reading was probably the worst thing on the planet . You were just about to question him again when Draco beat you to it.
“Reading? I didn’t know you could read,” he said.
“Draco.” You hissed at him.
“What?”
Before saying anything you looked at Goyle again and he didn’t seem himself. You thought maybe you were just imagining it and you needed sleep.
“Never mind, I’m going to bed. See you all tomorrow.” And you left.
The next morning, you got up, got dressed, and made your way to the Great Hall for breakfast. You spotted Goyle and tried to go talk to him but you were stopped by two of your friends, Ron and Harry.
“Hey Y/n!” They said.
“Oh hey guys!” You greeted back.
“Um, we have a question for you,” Harry said.
“Okay, what is it?”
“Do you, by any chance, have a boyfriend or someone you fancy?” Ron asked.
“Why do you ask?”
“We just want to know.” Said Harry.
“Okay then, I do have a boyfriend.” You told them.
“Well, who is it?”
You thought for a moment before answering.
“Guess.” You said.
“What!?” They said in unison.
“Guess.”
“Um,” they thought for a few seconds. “ Is it that Goyle kid? One of Draco’s goons?” Ron said.
“He is not a goon! And anyways, out of all the people who go to this school you chose Goyle?”
“Um, yeah. We just guessed.” Said Harry.
“ Well then, that was very good guess. I’ll see you guys later!” You said walking away and making your way to the Slytherin table.
“Hey everyone!” You said arriving to the table, getting a few hi’s back. You sat next to Goyle and wrapped your arms around his waist giving him a hug. And he hugged you back with a smile.
“Hello love.” He whispered in your ear.
“Hi,” you said with a smile. “What happened last night? You were a little tense, and you had glasses. Where did those come from?”
“What do you mean? I didn’t see you last night.”
“You didn’t?”
“No?”
“One moment.”
You stood up from your spot and sped walked to the Gryffindor table.
“Harry-“
A/n: Hi, this is my second story. I’ve had this idea for a while and wanted to write a story about it. It could have been better and I probably have to back to fix spelling and grammar mistakes, but I hope you like it and have a great day!
“Dada,”
She could see Bucky’s frown, the lines on his forehead wrinkling his handsome face up. She knew it meant he was upset and she never wanted Daddy to be upset. She knew he never left her upset.
Bucky’s been looking like that since he walked through the mansion door that morning, barely acknowledging her when she greeted him. He almost forgot to give her her welcome-home kiss even.
“Not now, angel,” Bucky murmured, proceeding to flip through the papers covering his desk, huffing and puffing every now and then at the mess he was stuck trying to fix.
“Wanna show you somethin’,” she whispered, biting back a smile.
“Later, angel. I’m busy right now.”
He regretted telling her to come in. He should’ve known she’d be nothing but a distraction.
“Dada, jus’ take one look,” she bounced on her feet before slipping a neat sheet of paper on top of Bucky’s desk, momentarily blocking his view of the contracts he was angrily staring at. Now that made Bucky mad.
“I said I was busy!” Bucky shouted as his head snapped to her, his hand slamming down on the paper without even seeing it, blindly crumpling it and throwing it on the floor at her feet. She flinched at the sudden outburst, taking a step back.
“Dada,” tears filled her eyes as she looked at her discarded paper. Bucky just broke her heart.
“Why don’t you ever listen!” Bucky grabbed her arm tighter than usual, pulling her back to him, “How many times do I need to repeat the words for you to understand! I said not now, didn’t I?!” He let go of her arm with more force than he’d intended, making her stumble a little.
She was terrified now. Her heart pounded in her chest as she looked at Bucky with wide eyes. He has never lashed out on her like that, not even when she was big. She was scared. As her breath picked up, she wished she’d never left her playroom.
“Get out and don’t step into this office again until I tell you you can, you hear me?” Bucky growled, oblivious to the signs of regression and horror showing on her face.
Her quick nods set off no alarms in his head as he watched her run out of his office.
Bucky felt bad about taking his anger out on her the second she fled the room. He flopped back down with a huff, flipping through the contracts again and again with no focus. He threw them down carelessly, running his fingers through his hair, tugging at the roots in frustration.
Cracking his hurting neck, Bucky regretted raising his voice at her. He couldn’t see the words on the contracts; her teary eyes flashing through his mind every time he tried reading.
Why did he have to yell? He could’ve just looked at her paper. She was likely trying to show him a drawing. Why couldn’t he just go with it? He’s sworn he’d never let anybody hurt his angel and then he goes and does this?
Bucky was ashamed. What kind of Daddy was he if he treated his little like that? It was no excuse that he was still getting used to being a Daddy. Bucky knew that wasn’t how a man should treat his girl.
He bowed forward, picking up the balled paper by his desk. He carefully straightened it, deciding to fix his angel’s damaged drawing and make it up to her.
Only it wasn’t a drawing; the paper was a handwritten Daddy-Angel contract. It even had colourful flowers, bees and butterflies decorating the paper and everything.
She was probably trying to play office with him; probably just wanted Bucky to pretend he was signing her paper too.
A sad smile spread across Bucky’s lips as he read the paper. The contract stated that
- Dada will smile
- Dada will not be angry no more
- Dada will let me sit on his lap (will be quiet pp)
- Dada will play with me after work
Dada: ……………..
The paper ended with a free space for Bucky to sign in case of agreement to the ‘terms’.
There were a lot of moments where Bucky wished he could turn back time, but not being able to do so in this very moment seemed to torture him the most. He was an asshole.
She just wanted him to calm down. She respected that he was working and she wasn’t trying to interrupt, she merely wanted him to smile. She even pinky promised to sit quietly in his lap.
Bucky has messed up and it was for nothing because the damage to his work has already been done. He shouted at her like she was responsible when she was just trying to help him feel better.
Bucky got his pen out of his pocket, signing the empty place by his name, remorsefully sighing at his utter stupidity.
~
“Angel,” Bucky called, knocking on the door before opening it.
She wasn’t in her playroom, but Bucky could see her round table full of similar papers to the one he had folded in his pocket.
She’s made at least 6 of these ‘contracts’, some of them were written in different colours or had spelling mistakes.
She’d obviously worked hard until she settled on the paper to give him and he ended up throwing it on the floor.
Bucky’s hand rubbed his face, frustrated at himself and his lack of control. An asshole was what he was. An asshole.
“Angel, where are you, baby?” Bucky sighed, opening the bedroom door to see her sitting, hugging her knees on the large bed.
She looked too tiny bundled up like that and her muffled sniffles punched at Bucky’s heart.
“Angel.”
She only lifted her head up when she felt the bed dip under Bucky’s weight and panic flashed over her delicate features.
“Baby, don’t cry,” Bucky said, his hand instinctively moving to wipe her tears only to have her flinch back, squeezing her eyes shut as if she was awaiting a blow.
Bucky’s heart stopped beating for a second when he realized what had just happened.
She was scared of him. His angel had flinched away from his touch. A huge lump formed in Bucky’s throat as she opened her eyes again, “angel?”
“Please don’ hurt me. Won’ come to the office. Won’ leave the room.” She shook her head and sobbed, scurrying back on the bed and away from Bucky.
This pained Bucky more than any punishment he thought he deserved. The look on her face was enough for him to want the walls to open up and swallow him.
“Angel, I would never hurt you. You know that.” Bucky whispered, sniffing back the tears about to spill down his bearded cheeks.
He needed to hear her say she did. He needed to know she knew Bucky could never hurt her.
She looked from Bucky to her left arm where his metal hand had grabbed her earlier. His fingers had left a mark around her arm. The skin was still pulsing as if his hold on her never loosened.
It was too late and it didn’t matter what he said because he’d already hurt her and the evidence was on her body.
Bucky’s mouth opened and closed as he swallowed again. He didn’t know what to say. He was supposed to be the one protecting her, not the one hurting her. How could he do such a thing to his angel?
“Oh, baby,” he breathed, shaking his head regretfully before trying to get closer to her.
Her instant reaction was to crawl back further and Bucky’s heart sank to his stomach. He felt his soul leaving his body when he looked her in the eyes and saw fear.
A tear betrayed him, falling down, gliding by his lips. Bucky wiped it away quickly, sniffing and clearing his throat.
“I signed your contract, angel.” Bucky got the paper out of his pocket, opening it and putting it on the bed for her to see.
Her eyes looked down and more tears left them at the sight of her once fine work now ruined.
“I’m so sorry, angel. Daddy was bad, baby. I’m sorry,” Bucky pleaded, his fingers reaching out for hers.
She pulled her hand away quickly, hiding it behind her back and Bucky knew he had really messed up. It was no use trying.
She was scared of him. His touch frightened her and was no longer a symbol of comfort to her.
He took his hand away, straightening his back and getting off the bed.
“I-I’ll see you at lunch then.” Bucky sniffed again.
“And angel?” he called from the door, getting her attention.
“Thank you for caring for daddy. I love you.” Bucky has never heard his voice as weak as he did in that moment and he felt even worse when she didn’t say it back.
~
When the table was set and Bucky came out of his office to find her chair empty, another lump was quick to form in his throat.
He wasn’t even hungry. He had no appetite to eat; he just wanted to see her but didn’t have the guts to peek into their bedroom again.
“Angel?” Bucky was ready to knock on the bedroom door but it was already open.
He carefully pushed it and took a look inside to find the bed empty. He tried not to freak out as he knocked the en suite bathroom door and got no answer. When he opened it, she wasn’t there either.
Bucky could hear his own blood pumping in his ears because she was no where to be found in her playroom as well.
She left. She left him and she had every right to. How could he lose her? How could he lose the one good thing in his life?
Tears distorted Bucky’s vision as his hand clutched the side of the door. His heart clenched at the thought of never seeing her again, never hearing her sweet voice call for him again; never getting to smell her on his pillow again.
The sound of her feet padding on the floor behind him pulled Bucky out of his head and he thought he’d imagined it for a second. He turned around and she froze when his eyes fell on her.
She shifted on her feet, hiding one behind the other and internally hoping Bucky wouldn’t notice she was roaming around with bare feet when he’d specifically asked her not to before.
That was the last of Bucky’s concerns at the moment though. He was just relieved she didn’t leave him even if he deserved it.
“Where were you, angel?” the tenderness of Bucky’s tone let her know he wasn’t mad at her for walking around shoeless.
“Couldn’ fin’ PinePine,” she replied softly, referring to the white feline, “’s lunch time.” Her eyes remained fixed on her feet as she avoided Bucky’s.
He was secretly thankful for that, not wanting her to see him in tears twice in the same day.
She was so pure; so caring and loving to everyone around. Bucky found himself slightly jealous of his own cat for a second there.
“Where did you find, PinePine?” He asked calmly, just wanting to hear her speak to him.
“Downstairs,” she answered shortly, leaving Bucky disappointed.
“Let’s go then. The table’s set.” Bucky smiled, hesitantly offering her his hand.
She stood unmoving for a few seconds, eyes still casted down, before she decided to hold onto Bucky’s pointer.
He sighed, knowing she was still scared but didn’t want to reject him. She was so sweet on him even when he least deserved it.
~
When lunch was over, Bucky let her know she could come to the office whenever she wanted, although he doubted she would. She gave a small nod before running back to the other room as Bucky shouted an “I’ll get back to work then.” behind her.
He didn’t actually get back to work. He couldn’t focus. He couldn’t think of anything but the way she pulled away from his touch every single time he tried to come near her, or the way she forced herself to hold one of his fingers as they walked less than 10 steps together to the dining room. She'd even begged him not to hurt her earlier.
How did he let himself fuck up so bad? When did they get there? What was he going to do now? How does one get forgiven after being this awful?
A lamp lit above the mafia boss’ head and he grabbed a clean sheet of paper before he could lose the idea.
Bucky was going to write his angel a contract. A pardon contract.
His Daddy-Angel 2.0 contract stated that:
- Angel will forgive Daddy
- Angel will not be sad with Daddy no more
- Angel will sit on Daddy’s lap (even if she doesn’t wanna be quiet)
- Angel will play with Daddy after work if she still wants to
Angel: …………….
Bucky sighed as he tried to draw anything other than sloppy hearts in the empty places around the words to decorate the paper but he was terrible at this. He was desperately in need of his angel’s forgiveness though so he scratched his beard and kept working.
Bucky needed to know she wasn’t actually scared of him; not her. Anyone but her. He wouldn’t be able to take it. He wouldn’t be able to ever tolerate himself if she didn’t forgive him.
Bucky’s tongue was hanging outside the side of his mouth as he drew another birdie on the bottom of the contract. It didn’t really look like a bird, unless of course that bird was struck by lightning a hundred times before, but Bucky thought it would do. After all, he was no artist. He didn’t draw. He didn’t deal with colours; he dealt with weapons. His hands were rough for a reason. But he would do anything for his angel. Anything to win her over again.
A knock on his door cut off his focus and Bucky groaned.
“Come in.”
He felt sorry for whoever had the bad luck of interrupting him during his contract-making, ready to yell at someone.
Bucky looked up from his desk when he didn’t hear anyone speaking, and his face has never softened so fast.
It was his girl who’d come into the office. She had her folded contract in her hand and her eyes were looking kind of puffy from crying.
Bucky just stared at her in remorse, pushing his chair back a bit as he watched her walk closer to his seat.
He wanted to tell her he was sorry. He was so sorry. He’s never been sorrier in his life. He wanted nothing more than to take every word and every harsh touch back.
She stood there for a second, waiting to see if Bucky was going to kick her out this time too. When he didn’t, she rounded the desk and stopped by Bucky’s chair.
Bucky remained speechless, not wanting to scare her away again. She came to him. She came on her own. Unless she came to throw the contract in his face and break up with him, that should be a good sign.
Her tongue peeked outside, wetting her lips nervously before she stretched an arm out, ever so carefully nearing it to Bucky’s thigh. Her gaze was glued to Bucky’s face, gauging his reaction. When Bucky’s frown didn’t show up she let her palm touch Bucky’s leg.
Bucky didn’t understand what she was doing but he wouldn’t dream of questioning her. He was just glad she was okay with touching him again at all after what he’d done, even if she was doing it so cautiously it broke his heart to a thousand pieces.
With her stare trained on Bucky, she stepped forward, slotting herself in the small space between Bucky’s chair and his desk, facing him. Her hands moved to grab on Bucky’s strong shoulders, still watching his face. She swallowed before effortlessly climbing on, cozily curling herself on his lap.
Bucky’s heart swelled as he felt her nose nuzzle his shirt. His own emotions overwhelmed him and tears gathered in his eyes.
“Angel?” his voice was barely a whisper as he looked down to her, careful not to startle her.
She looked up at him worriedly, thinking he didn’t want her where she was.
Her eyes showed fear for a short second before she unfolded the scrunched paper in her hand, a finger pointing to the third term.
“Dada signed,” she said, her eyes so innocent and Bucky couldn’t contain himself anymore.
“Oh, angel,” Bucky’s tears uncontrollably rolled down, wetting his beard.
He held her so close, she could hear his heartbeats drumming in his chest.
“Baby, I’m so sorry.” Bucky cried, wetly kissing her forehead over and over.
“I’m sorry, my angel. Forgive me,” he repeated, leaning down to kiss her bruised shoulder before lifting both hands to his lips and kissing them, “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.”
“Dada,” her smaller hands cupped Bucky’s cheeks as sadness covered her features.
She’s never seen Bucky like that. Not even at his father’s funeral did he sob like that.
She didn’t know it but to Bucky, the thought of losing her hurt more than the actual loss of a family member who never gave two shits about him.
She was Bucky’s everything. His love, his partner, his companion, his baby angel. She was the one who stole his heart and took good care of it. Bucky would give up anything and everything in life and choose her to forever keep, protect and love.
Her short thumbs wiped under Bucky’s eyes, pushing his tears away. She turned to straddle him and wrapped her arms around his neck, laying her cheek on his shoulder.
The smell of her hair calmed Bucky’s heart down as he turned his face to kiss her head, hands settling on her back, “I will never hurt you, angel. Please tell me you know that, my love.”
Bucky’s hoarse voice had her pulling away from the hug. She sat back and looked her man in the eyes, her thumb brushing his chin, “I know,” she whispered and Bucky could see it in her eyes. She did. She believed him. She knew he wouldn’t hurt her.
She stroked Bucky’s cheeks as he sniffled, smiling gratefully at her reply. And his whole world lit up again when she smiled back, timidly pecking the corner of his pink lips.
Oh she was a real angel. No one’s ever been this kind to Bucky before, only her. Bucky kissed her hand one more time, quietly thanking her for forgiving him.
“I made you a contract too,” Bucky told her with a chuckle, pointing to the desk behind her as he wiped his face with the back of his hand.
Her mouth opened in a silent gasp, her smile reaching her wide eyes. She turned around in Bucky’s lap, planting her knees on the chair between Bucky’s open legs and stood on them to take a look.
She took her time reading the words and then she was off Bucky’s lap and bolting out of the room.
The man was about to lose it again, thinking she’d remembered his cruelty towards her and changed her mind when she came running back inside the office.
She climbed back on the chair between Bucky’s thighs, her glitter pen in hand.
Bucky sighed in relief, his lips spreading with an adoring smile as he watched her write her name letter by letter in glittery ink where her signature was needed. Bucky held her waist, kissing her back as he admired how focused she was.
She closed the cap on the pen, placing it on the desk before picking up the contract to show Bucky.
“Angel signed,” she beamed, plopping herself against Bucky’s chest and clinging to him, earning a hearty chuckle from him.
“I love you so much, angel. More than anything in the world.” Bucky gently held her face by the chin, giving her lips a short kiss.
“I love you too, dada.” She smiled, blushing as she hid her face in his chest again.
Bucky wrapped his arms around her, holding her to him and closing his eyes, just enjoying the feel of her body against his once more, silently promising his angel to never hurt her ever again.
Tumblr media
AGAIN: SPOILERS UNDER CUT!
The moment you saw it on TV, you knew you had to get to Bucky. You weren’t planning on leaving until the next day, but there was no way you weren’t going. So you caught the first plane you could from the base you were staying at.
You’re feelings were all over the place. Steve had been your best friend for more than the past decade. You were the one there when he first woke up. You were the one to help him get situated. You were the one to help him whenever he needed, to go over to his little place in DC when he was having problems, like the time he thought he was having an asthma attack when it was an anxiety attack or when you had to help him find a new phone after he accidentally broke his.
You were that close to falling in love with him. But life went the other way and, in a weird twist of fate, almost as if the universe wanted to spare you of the heartbreak it knew would come if you gave your heart to the dashing captain, you ended up tripping over your own feet for someone else.
Someone you would never tell.
He was the last thing you had left of Steve and you couldn’t ruin that because of your stupid feelings. And you couldn’t ruin the relationship you had now because it was working. He trusted you, more than anyone else. He trusted you because Steve trusted you and you wouldn’t dare break that trust.
You just hoped, with everything going down in relation to the shield - to his legacy - that you’d be able to keep that promise you made to yourself.
You were in front of his door early in the morning - around four - hesitating to knock. It didn’t take long for him to respond the moment your fist did meet the door.
He looked…tired. You wished, oh how you wished, that you could do more. Anything more. He insisted you helped him plenty already; he claimed he never had nightmares when you were by his side. But it wasn’t enough. Not for what he’d been through. You felt as though you were merely putting a bandaid over a bullet wound.
His chocolate locks were short, above his ears. You could remember how hesitant yet eager he was about doing it. It was difficult to not cut his ear off because he kept moving in anticipation. You would know: you cut it. Those blue eyes that made you trip in the first place were outlined by thick lashes, dark ebony bags beneath them, making the azure pop. He was shirtless, as he usually was when sleeping (or at least trying to sleep), his dog tags resting against his sternum.
You could tell he hadn’t been sleeping. His eyes were bloodshot as if he was watching TV for too long and his hair was less messy than it would be if he actually slept.
The moment his eyes found yours, his plump, chapped lips turned up into the grin he reserved for you and he was pulling you in. Your reaction was instantaneous, your arms slipping around his waist, your chin resting on his shoulder as he found home in the crook of your neck.
He was touch deprived. You knew this, but you never brought it up. Especially considering you were one of the only people he touched willingly. You didn’t want him thinking he was broken, more so than he thought he was already. And you definitely didn’t want to push him into fixing himself. So you didn’t tell him, even though you were pretty sure he knew, and you just let him take the lead.
Sometimes it meant he grabbed your hand in large crowds, or tucked you under his arm when he was threatened. Other times it meant laying his head in your lap when he was tired late at night, or a soft hug in greeting.
Hands slowly tracing his spine, fingers dancing up and down his back, you gave a small smile when you felt him practically purring in your embrace. You could never decide if he was more puppy or kitten. You used to make jokes about the three of them, Steve, Bucky, and Sam, being like a puppy, kitten, and bird that you had to reluctantly pet sit for a friend. You would give almost anything to be joking around like that with them when you went to visit Bucky in Wakanda with Steve.
“Buck?”
He hummed. You didn’t want to pull back, you wanted to stay connected with him for as long as possible, but you had to talk. You didn’t want to talk about it, because that would make it more real, but you had to. You had to.
“Have you seen the news recently?”
His eyebrows furrowed, his lips pulling down. “What happened? Is it Wanda?”
You looked down the hall, your lips pressed together tightly, before nodding inside. “We have to talk.”
He nodded, stepping back and pulling you inside. Seeing the makeshift bed on the floor against the far edge of the sofa made you inwardly sigh, but you didn’t say anything about it. Steve was the same way at first.
“Is she okay? Did you find her? Where-”
“It’s not Wanda.” Turning, you faced him, trying to control your own anger at the situation, knowing it wouldn’t help him any. “It’s…it’s about Steve.”
Those spectacularly blue eyes narrowed, bottom lip being sucked in between his teeth. “What about Steve?”
You gestured for him to come closer, holding out your hand in offering. He took it and followed you as you led him to the couch. A cleared throat and a deep breath later found you gently explaining what happened to him. That the government had taken back the shield and had given it to someone else. A ‘hero just for America’. A ‘new Captain America’.
You could see his features harden with every word, his jaw ticking dangerously, his chest heaving and his nostrils flaring. You squeezed his hand as you finished. “He’s got meetings and stuff with senators and governors. They’re taking him on a tour this week. They-they want me to meet him, considering I’m the last of the original seven. Active on Earth, at least.”
The tears that started forming in his eyes made you swallow your own emotions down thickly. He didn’t need your hatred of this wannabe to fuel his own. He needed your support and comfort. He needed to know you’d be by his side through this.
“Are you?”
You blinked, not expecting his first words to be that question. “Am I what?”
“Going to meet with him?”
“I-I…” You stopped talking, knowing that if you continued you’d end up ranting about how he wasn’t your captain. How he could never be your captain. Debating answers, you decided on a simple, blunt reply. “No.”
“Why…”
Running your thumb over his knuckles, you leaned over slowly to press a chaste kiss to his bare skin and blood shoulder. “Take your time. Collect your thoughts.”
He responded to your words by taking a deep breath, clenching his eyes shut, his jaw so tight you feared he might chip his teeth. It was a tense minute before he said anything, the room being filled with his harsh breathing. “You said he gave them the shield.”
“What?”
“Yesterday. You told me he gave up the shield. They put it in the Smithsonian. But you just said they took it from him.”
“He did give it to them, but-”
“Why?” His eyes snapped open, his features twisting into ones of frustration and resentment. “Why’d he give it to them?”
You shook your head, knowing Sam didn’t mean for any of that to happen. He had called you a few weeks ago to ask about your opinion on the matter. You told him that Steve trusted him, and you trusted Steve, so if Sam thought that was the right thing to do…you trusted him. “It’s not Sam’s fault. Don’t be mad-”
“Don’t be mad?! Don’t be mad?!” Bucky shot up, ripping his hand away from yours, making you bite your lip and hang your head as he paced in front of you. “Steve gave it to him! And he just gives it away like he’s regifting a shitty frisbee as a Christmas present! And you don’t want me to be mad?! Are you fucking kidding me, Y/N?!”
Cringing at the use of your name, which you rarely hear fall from his lips, especially in vexation like just then, you looked up at him, eyes pleading. “Bucky, I get it. I do. I’m mad, too. I’m-I’m furious. But you can’t blame Sam. Please. He just - he’s trying, Buck. Just like me. Just like you. We’re all trying.”
Bucky’s shoulders fell as he stared at you, eyes darting from feature to feature as he studied your face. Before you could say anything else, he was on the floor in front of you, in between your legs, arms wrapped around your waist and face pressed into your stomach.
You could tell he was holding something back - something big - but you wouldn’t push him. You never did. Displaying feelings was always hard for him, even in the early 1900’s; Steve used to tell you stories when you were looking for him after the fiasco in DC. Bucky grew up being the oldest of four and the only boy. On top of that, his best friend was a scrawny, stubborn, punching bag of a boy. According to Stevie, neither of them really learned how to cope or how to deal with feelings. And it showed. Boy, did it show.
Instead of getting on him and asking what was wrong and begging for him to talk to you, your fingers tangled in his hair, nails scratching his scalp, as you sat back to make the position more comfortable for him.
“Stay with me. I need you.”
You leaned down to press a soft kiss to his head, nodding into his hair. “I’ll stay. For as long as you need me, Buckaroo.”
Part One
Read on Ao3
---
Part Two
The end of a game was a mix of relief and restlessness for Ushijima. Relief that he had another game under his belt and more experience to take with him onto the next match. Restlessness because he wanted to play more. He wanted to get back on the court and fix the mistakes he had made during the match.
And at the end of a game, as he made his way back to the bench to grab some water and chat with his teammates, his chest would clench as his eyes always drifted into the stands. He knew Tendou would be there because he came to every home game. Sometimes there would be some people he knew from his dorm room floor, people that came with Tendou. Hope would bloom in his chest as he looked for people he knew.
And today, like every other game, that hope deflated in his chest as he saw only Tendou.
Ushijima didn’t know when he started to hope for you to come to one of his games. But part of started to one day. And you never came. To any of them.
Tendou told Ushijima that he always invited you, and it seemed that every time you had something to do. Ushijima understood, of course. But that didn’t keep that little part of him from deflating every time.
Ushijima made his way to the locker room a little later, ready to just go home and rest. Tendou was leaning against the wall outside the locker room. He smiled as he saw Ushijima approach.
“Great game, man,” Tendou clapped him on the shoulder. “You guys get better every game.”
“Thanks,” Ushijima said simply, and he must have sounded deflated because Tendou stopped him before he made his way into the locker room.
“Hey.”
Ushijima stopped but didn’t turn around.
“I told her to come. She just couldn’t.”
Ushijima stood and tried to shove down the dread in his chest.
“Thanks, Tendou,” he said instead. And Tendou let him go.
“I’ll see you back at the dorm,” he heard Tendou say.
The end of a game was always a mix of relief and restlessness, and lately, it was getting harder to shove away the disappointment of not seeing your face in the stands.
That night after the game and cleaning up the gym, Ushijima walked outside into the cool air to make his way back to the dorm. He felt the aftermath of the serving work he had done in practice earlier in the week, his arm feeling a bit more tired than usual. He thought he should stretch it out one more time before bed.
“Ushijima!”
His name said in the most lovely tone made him immediately turn in the direction of where it had come from.
In the darkness, saw a running figure making its way towards him while waving. Ushijima would recognize you anywhere.
He stopped walking and turned fully towards you, and by then you had caught up to him. Your hair was wild from the wind, and you were out of breath. You had your backpack with you.
Ushijima frowned while you caught your breath. “It’s too late to be walking alone.”
You smiled and huffed out a laugh. “Well, care to join me, then?”
Ushijima smiled a little at that, and then you smiled back. You walked to his side and you began to walk together.
“How was your game?” You asked. “I was at a study session over here, and I was trying to catch you. Lucky me.”
Ushijima glanced down as you beamed up at him with that sweet smile. It made him feel warm.
“The game went well,” he answered, looking ahead. “We won.”
Ushijima then grabbed your backpack strap suddenly and slid it off your arm. You were surprised, but let him sling it over his free shoulder.
“Thanks,” you said quietly. “Um, I’m glad your game went well.”
Ushijima nodded. You two walked in silence, listening to the sound of the nearby cars and people walking by. It was a cool, peaceful night on campus, and Ushijima never felt awkward in your silence. In fact, he enjoyed the silence you two shared because it was always a mutual understanding.
He glanced down at you while you two kept walking, keeping his head still so you wouldn’t notice. Lately, he had been trying to figure out when you had started making him feel so…different. He concluded that really, he had felt that way about you ever since he met you. Your attitude, your ideas, your mind, your spirit. He felt so drawn and welcomed by you, and Ushijima had never felt that way before.
He liked you. He liked you so much and he wasn’t sure what to do with that.
Because you were friends, and he didn’t want to ruin it.
The walk was silent the whole way back. Ushijima was too lost in his own thoughts to realize you hadn’t said anything, which was strange. You were always the one to start the conversation. That’s just how you were. Yet you were riding the elevator up the dorm floor and Ushijima noticed it had been a completely silent walk. He handed your backpack back to you.
You arrived at your door and stopped, facing away from him.
Ushijima didn’t know what to do. So he turned. “Goodnight,” he said, and started walking.
“Ushijima.”
Then, he felt your fingers wrap around his hand, and he felt lightning spark his body. He turned to look down at you.
You looked concerned, distressed, unhappy. Ushijima took a reflexive step towards you, feeling worried and concerned himself. Did he do something wrong?
“I…” you started, and then fiddled nervously with his fingers that you held in your hand. “I wanted to ask you something…”
“You can ask me anything,” he said, and you quickly glanced up at him through your eyelashes, then looked back down.
“I, um…are we friends?”
Ushijima blinked. “Of course.”
You looked up at him again and held eye contact. You were searching his face for something, and Ushijima didn’t know what. He stared back at you and then spoke again.
“You’re one of my best friends.”
Something flashed in your eyes, and your jaw clenched. You let go of his hand, and your lips twitched in a smile. “Right.”
You turned away from him and pulled out your keys to unlock your door. “Goodnight, Ushijima,” you mumbled.
And as you turned the doorknob, Ushijima’s arm moved on its own, his hand making its way around your face. You turned to him, surprised with your mouth open. His thumb brushed over your cheek and his fingers grazed your neck.
Ushijima leaned down and pressed his lips to the corner of your mouth. He felt his eyes close when he left his lips there.
When he realized what he had done, he leaned back but stopped just in front of your face.
“I’m sorry.”
And he quickly left down the hall to his own room, realizing the friendship he hadn’t wanted to ruin was completely and utterly ruined.
———
Ushijima avoided you for weeks. He went to class and practice, stayed late to practice on his serves every night, and then went straight to his room. He never went into the floor lounge, he never lingered longer in the hallway when filling up his water bottle. He focused solely on school and volleyball, and the games were ramping up as their team was advancing to the deciding tournament. They had a good chance of making it to the state championships.
And he never saw you at all.
Times when you would knock on his and Tendou’s door suddenly ended. Ushijima had a feeling that you and Tendou were still talking, yet Tendou was busy as the semester went on, too. He would mention you in conversation, and Ushijima either didn’t respond or changed the subject. Because he was sure that he had made things awkward, and he convinced himself that you didn’t want to talk to him ever again. You probably wanted nothing to do with him.
One day, Tendou was talking about a game night that people were thinking about hosting in the lounge, and Ushijima was half-listening until Tendou mentioned your name.
Tendou paused as if waiting for Ushijima to respond, but Ushijima never did.
“Hey,” Tendou spoke tentatively. “You know…she’s uh, she wants to talk—“
“Tendou,” Ushijima interrupted. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
Tendou groaned. “Come on, Wakatoshi. You can’t do this to her. She’s been a complete mess since you stopped talking to her—“
“She’s been a mess?” Ushijima was now turned completely toward Tendou, his body feeling warm and heightened.
Tendou rolled his eyes. “You must be another kind of stupid. Of course she’s been a mess!”
Ushijima felt a pain in his chest. “I hurt her.”
Tendou took several rushed steps toward Ushijima. “No, no, not because of the kiss, it’s because you stopped talking to her—“
“You know about the kiss?” Ushijima interrupted again.
Tendou opened his mouth and then closed it. Then opened it again. “Well…I…dammit. I really wasn’t supposed to mention that—“
“What did she say? Is she upset?” Ushijima felt panicked. Because if you had talked to Tendou and told him about the kiss, surely you told him how you felt about it. Ushijima didn’t know what to do or how to handle all of the thoughts running through his mind. He wanted to know what was wrong and how to fix it immediately.
“Wakatoshi, I really think you should just talk to her,” Tendou looked around nervously. “You just need to ask her yourself—“
Ushijima was already up out of his chair and out the door. He had to find you and fix this. He had to apologize again and see what was wrong. Screw his own feelings and his own embarrassment. He had to fix this. He had to.
Ushijima walked up to your door, his fist about to knock firmly on the wood until he heard you laugh.
And then he heard another voice. A deep voice. A dude's voice.
Ushijima felt his cheeks flush, and his fist fell to his side. He couldn’t hear what was being said, but it certainly sounded like you were laughing and speaking happily.
And as he turned on his heel and started to walk back down to his room, your door opened.
He kept walking.
“If you ever need any help on the homework again, let me know,” he heard you say.
“Yeah, thanks so much,” the guy said to you.
Ushijima was about to open the door to his room when he heard the guy speak again.
“Hey, so I was wondering, would you wanna go out sometime? There’s a party happening at my friend’s house tonight.”
Ushijima felt his jaw clench.
“O-Oh,” he heard you say quietly. “I’m sorry, I’m not really available. I have a lot of school work and stuff.”
“You can’t even come for a little bit? You’re cute, and I want to hang out.”
Ushijima saw red.
“I’m really sorry, I’m just not interested—“
“You’re telling me you’d rather do homework than hang out with me?”
“Excuse me, can you please back up—“
“Aw, am I making you nervous?”
“Please get out of my room—“
Suddenly, Ushijima was bounding down the hall, stepping in front of you, and towering over the scraggly asshole, and he heard you gasp behind him.
“I believe she told you to leave,” Ushijima growled.
The asshole scoffed. “Hey man, what’s your—“
“If I were you,” Ushijima took a step towards the guy, making him step back. “I would do that.”
The asshole’s eyes widened, opening his mouth but no words came out.
“Understand?” Ushijima continued through clenched teeth.
The asshole broke out in a brisk walk down the hallway, and he was gone.
Ushijima heard a sharp breath from behind him, and he whipped around to you.
You had tears falling out of your widened eyes and streaking down your lovely cheeks, and Ushijima didn’t hesitate to cup your face in his hands, wiping his thumbs over your cheeks.
“Did he touch you?” Ushijima ducked to meet your eyes, scanning over your distressed face.
You sucked in another breath, tears continuing to fall out of your eyes. “I..I—No, h-he didn’t touch me, he just—“
You squeezed your eyes, and a small cry fell out of your mouth. “I’m sorry, I was just shocked—“
Ushijima wrapped you up in his arms and pressed you to his chest, and more sobs sounded muffled against his shirt.
“I’m sorry,” you repeated, the words stilted as they came out. “I’m sorry—“
“Don’t be sorry,” he said. “Are you alright?”
You nodded against his chest, and Ushijima decided to take a step into your room and close the door behind him as not to call too much attention.
Ushijima held you to his chest again, and he felt you bring your hands up to fist his t-shirt in your hands. It was silent as you both stood there in your room, your face in his chest and his hands around your head. Inside, Ushijima was so pissed at what just happened, but he just pressed you closer and told himself he would never let that happen again.
“Wakatoshi,” you sniffed. “I just wanna go to sleep. I’m so tired.”
Ushijima stiffened, immediately feeling embarrassed that he had just invited himself into your room. It was late after all, and he started to step away. “Of course, I apologize—“
But your fists stayed glued to his shirt. Ushijima paused, his hands floating in the air around you.
“Stay,” you whispered, then peered up at him under your damp eyelashes. “Stay with me.”
She wants me to stay.
And it felt like second nature to him. He didn’t even think twice. He nodded, gathered up your hands in his, quickly flipping off the light. You made your way over to your bed in the dark, and you immediately pulled the covers back and got in. Ushijima followed, the familiarity of the situation feeling warm and safe.
Through the dark, Ushijima could see tears were still falling down your cheeks. He pulled the covers further up over both of you as you faced each other. He cupped your face, swiping his thumb over your cheeks to dry them. His heart hurt as you cried.
You sniffed. “I’m sorry, Toshi. I’m so sorry—“
“Sorry for what?” He said. “You have nothing to be—“
“Yes, I do,” you said. “I’ve…”
You sniffed again and scooted closer to him. Ushijima waited while you found your words, continuing to tenderly stroke your cheeks with his thumbs. Even in the dark, he could see your worried and troubled eyes. Whatever you had to say, it must have been something very serious.
“I’ve been a terrible friend,” you said in almost a whisper.
Ushijima continued to stay silent as he listened, watching your face as you focused on your thoughts. “I feel like I haven’t been completely honest with you. I never felt like I had to hide in front of you or pretend to act a certain way. I…always feel happy when I’m with you, I just…”
You paused again. Sniffing and then letting out a long sigh, Ushijima moved one of his hands to tuck your hair behind your ears. He felt you lean into his touch, and it made his chest flutter.
“Wakatoshi,” you said breathlessly. “I…”
Then your eyes met his through the dark, your tense pause hanging in the air above. Ushijima waited still. He would not pressure you to say anything, because obviously, you were choosing your words carefully.
“I just…I haven’t gone to any of your games. When is your next one?” You said with a small smile.
Ushijima, while he wasn’t great on picking up every social cue, knew very well that wasn’t what you were going to say. Your smile was weak and pasted on, definitely not your beautiful, sweet smile that he knew so well.
But Ushijima wouldn’t pressure you to say anything. He wouldn’t press. Whatever you wanted to say, he would be there to listen. He would always be there.
“The next one is away,” he explained. “An away game that decides the state championships. If we win the away game, we will go to state which will be held here.”
You smiled a little brighter at that. “I’ll be there. Because I know you’ll win.”
Ushijima brushed back your hair again. “I’ll count on it.”
You scooted closer to him, resting your forehead against his chest. He put his arm over you and held you to him.
The fourth time you and Ushijima spent the night together, he liked you so much it was almost unbearable.
———
They had made it to state and the day had arrived. Ushijima was warming up with the rest of his team, music blaring through the arena and people flooding in to find their seats. The other team was warming up as well, and the excitement in the space was buzzing in Ushijima’s bones. He was glancing up at the stands more often than usual, and he couldn’t even pretend he wasn’t waiting to see your face. You told him you were going to be at the game, and he just needed to see your face before he could get in his zone.
This was the state championship, this was the thing Ushijima had been working up to the entire season with the rest of his teammates. Lots of late-night serving practice, stretching, icing, and running made Ushijima feel more ready than he had ever felt for anything in his life.
He just needed to see your smile.
The buzzer rang through the arena to signal warmup was over, and Ushijima felt the nerves buzzing through his body as he made his way back to the bench. He grabbed his water, making sure to regulate his breathing and stay present. Once more, once more before the game, he would look into the student section to see if you and Tendou had—
Ushijima looked, and there you were.
Dressed all in school colors, wearing a university volleyball shirt with his number, and holding a sign that said: “Go Ushiwaka!”.
But all Ushijima could focus on was your smile.
Your beautiful, bright, warm smile made the rest of the area disappear. You smiled even bigger once you realized he was looking at you from across the gym, and you shook the sign enthusiastically.
Ushijima briefly saw Tendou trying to get his attention, waving a giant print of Ushijima’s head around like the weirdo he was. His coach called the team to a huddle, and Ushijima took one last look at you.
You threw a thumbs up at him. “You got this!” You mouthed to him.
Ushijima smiled back. He didn’t need to say anything back to you, because he knew you knew.
Both teams made their way to the court, the tension of the teams and audience growing every second that went by.
Ushijima was serving first. He channeled every single practice and every single late-night spent in his mind and took a breath.
The whistle blew.
Ushijima jumped.
And the audience roared as the ball smacked the floor on the other side of the net.
“Wing-spiker Ushiwaka starts the game off with an incredible service ace!”
———
All it took was a slip up by the other team’s libero to end the game.
They had won.
The crowd flooded the court. Students yelled and screamed as they made their way down, and Ushijima’s own team tackled each other in victory, pulling Ushijima himself into the mix. It was a complete mess, and Ushijima’s ears rang from his other teammates yelling in his ear. They had played an amazing game, and it was no wonder everyone was so ecstatic.
But Ushijima pulled away from his teammates and looked through the flood that was pouring onto the court from the student section.
He pushed through the bodies, and he was probably looking somewhat frantic, but he did feel that way a little. He looked for a head of red hair, but there were so many people it was too hard to—
A hand popped up above the crowd, and then he spotted the grinning face he knew and loved.
“Toshi!” Your voice floated beneath the screaming voices.
Ushijima tried to pry his way through the crowd to meet you. His heart was beating so fast, faster than it had during the entire game and his hands were tingling and all he wanted to do was—
Suddenly you were jumping up and wrapping your arms around his neck in a joyful embrace, and Ushijima caught you. Your face buried into the side of his face made the giggles escaping your mouth so clear, and he felt a relieved breath sigh out of his mouth. Ushijima almost worried about how sweaty he was, but he knew you wouldn’t care.
“You did it, Toshi!” You spoke against his cheek. “You did it.”
You leaned back and Ushijima looked at your face while still holding you up, arms around your waist. You giggled again, smiling with so much joy and love in your eyes. You were breathtaking.
“You were incredible,” you said. “Absolutely incredible.”
Everything disappeared again. The people trying to push around him, the noise, the music. It all disappeared when Ushijima looked into your tender eyes and felt your noses brush against each other. He held you tighter, never wanting to let go of this moment and never wanting to lose sight of your eyes that looked at him and only him.
But Ushijima didn’t expect you to slam your lips into his. You squeezed your arms around his neck tightly, and Ushijima wasn’t about to let you go.
He kissed you back and melted into the passion of your hold and the softness of your lips. He realized he had been waiting so long for this moment, and it was better than he could’ve imagined.
You pulled away and Ushijima heard the hitch in your breath as you looked into his eyes again. Ushijima was still reeling from a whole new adrenaline.
“I’ve been wanting to tell you, Toshi,” you said breathlessly. “I like you. I have liked you for so long. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship, but I realized I want to be honest. I really, really like you. I want to be with you every day and I want to be at all of your games. I want to be by your side, Toshi.”
Ushijima’s chest swelled at those words, and still holding you up with one arm, he reached up with his other hand to cup your face.
“I want nothing more than for you to be by my side, sweet girl.”
May I ask for a Loki x reader: Im going for a "the ugly duckling" or "Cinderella" view in this, Tony makes a bet to some of the guys to find a date for the evening gala that was on within a few hours- without leaving the Tower! Loki happens to bump into reader- she was the caretaker, the person nobody saw, heard or noticed. But Loki was pleased-at least he wasnt gonna loose the bet! Standing in the grand room awaiting his "date", he felt a timid tap on his arm and turns to see a shy beauty...
YES i love this! Also, this is officially my first request on tumblr so i'm very happy😁
i hope it turned out as you wanted it to, happy reading! i didn't mean this to be this long but here we are, there are probably many mistakes, feel free to correct me!
mini note: i think loki can create things, if he can't and i'm wrong, please pretend he can :)
date-Loki Laufeyson x reader
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay so i have Pepper, Clint already has Laura. Does any one of you have a date?" Tony asked the boys. They were all sitting in the living room.
"Do we really need to have one?" Bucky asked, he was still shy to do the dating kind of stuff. He had a small crush on a girl but there was no way he would ask her.
"It would look nice but anyway, it's not like you could find one in a few hours."
"Is that a challenge Stark?" Loki smirked.
"Find one and i'll do anything you want for a day. If you can't, you'll do too." Tony suggested.
"Anything?"
"Yup, anything." Tony thought he wouldn't accept it. He was wrong.
"Okay, deal." Loki got up.
"Oh by the way, you have to find someone from the tower." Tony smirked this time.
"You didn't say that before i agreed to do this." Loki was nervous now, he knew Natasha or Wanda would never do something like that.
"You were so confident, what happened?" Tony teased.
"I am, see you later." Loki lied easily and left the room. He went to find the girls to ask if there was a small chance they would agree to this. He was trying to think how to ask them and he didn't look at where he was going so he bumped into someone. She seemed like a caretaker, her clothes were a little dirty and hair was pulled into a messy ponytail. He had never seen her before, she was pretty even at that moment. He thought maybe he would be able to make her agree to come with him so he decided to ask her.
"I'm sorry, i wasn't looking where i was going." he apologised, the girl softly blushed and smiled.
"It's okay i wasn't careful, it's my fault. Sorry." she lifted the book that fell down when they bumped from the ground and fixed her clothes.
"Oh no, please don't say that Lady ..."
"y/n, you don't have to say lady." she smiled.
"Okay, y/n. Nice to meet you, Loki." he held out his hand and she shook it kindly.
"I'll go back to work, have a nice day." she smiled and turned around to leave but Loki stopped her.
"Could i ask you a favour?"
"Of course, what is it?" she was so kind and shy.
"Here's the thing, Tony and i made a bet that i would find a date for the gala tonight, someone from the tower. And since Natasha or Wanda would never agree, would you like to join me? I promised i would do anything for him for a day if i couldn't find a date and i really don't want to lose." She seemed surprised, of course she wasn't waiting something like that. She expected him to say clean the kitchen or something like that.
"Um, are you sure you would want me to come with you? I could tell to the other girls, i'm sure many of them would love to accompany you."
"And why would you do that?"
"Well first of all i don't have anything that nice to wear at a gala. And i'm not really the type to be comfortable around all the cameras and press." she gave him a weak smile.
"Well if the dress is your problem we could fix that easily. And for the press, i wouldn't leave a pretty lady like you alone, don't worry. If you don't want to come it's okay, just say it." She blushed at his compliment and nodded.
"Okay, i can manage for a few hours i suppose. How are we fixing the dress problem though?"
"Could you take me to your room?" Loki asked.
"Uh, yeah sure. This way." she leaded the way and they walked to her room together. She opened the door with her keycard when they came to her room.
"Please don't mind the mess, i couldn't find many time this week."
"It's nothing, i'm sure it's better than mine." he smiled and got in the room.
"Okay so, what would you like to wear?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean your dress. How do you want it?"
"Anything that pleases you works." she smiled. Loki couldn't believe how kind she was. She first accepted his offer and now wanted him to choose her dress.
"Okay, i suppose you'd like this," he made a move with his hands and a dress appeared on her bed. It was dark green with golden stripes on the sides, not too long but not too short either.
"Wow, i uh, i love it. Thank you." she smiled. Loki really liked this girl, she was perfect.
"It's nothing, please keep it afterwards. I'll let you get dressed. Meet me in the grand room when you're finished?"
"Sure, okay. Thanks again." he smiled and left her room, memorizing the door number. He went back upstairs to his room to get dressed but ran into Tony on the way.
"Hey, you found your date yet?" Tony smirked, thinking he didn't.
"I did actually." Loki smiled and kept walking, leaving Tony surprised. He wore a fancy all-black suit with a dark green tie, matching her dress. He fixed his hair and went to the grand room to wait for her.
"What happened to your date?" Tony asked Loki. He really didn't think he found someone.
"I think she'll be here any minute." Loki answered and checked his watch. He thought maybe he would go check on her but his thoughts were cut off when he felt a timid tap on his arm. He turned around and saw y/n in the dress, her hair perfectly styled and with a little bit of makeup. She didn't even need it, he thought. She was absolutely gorgeous.
"Hi." she blushed.
"Hey."
"You look nice." she smiled. Loki held her hand making her gasp for a second.
"You look.." he paused for a second, thinking what to say. "like an absolute goddess." Her smile grew even wider making Loki chuckle.
"Thank you, for the compliment and the dress. It's really comfortable and beautiful. I, uh, never really wore something like this before so it's a nice first."
"It's not the dress why it looks this good, it's you." Loki complimented her again. She felt like she was going to die from happiness and shyness.
"Okay there's no way you found her in this tower. Tell me miss, did he enchant you to come with him in the market or something?" Tony asked.
"No, Mr. Stark, i work here." she smiled.
"Really?"
"Yeah, i'm y/n, Ms. Potts had hired me a few years back."
"We had you in this tower for years and this is the first time i'm seeing you? Wow." Tony smiled with a surprised face.
"Well it's nice to meet you, i hope we'll see you around more from now on." Tony shook her hand and turned around to leave them alone with Loki again.
"Stark?" Loki stopped him.
"Yes?"
"I won."
"Yeah i realised that, i was leaving not to embarrass myself more." he smiled kept walking making her and Loki chuckle.
"Are you ready?"
"Definitely."
"I'm glad i bumped into you, you are amazing." Loki smiled and held her hand tighter as they walked to the car to go to the gala.

regret | deacon x sole survivor
“i don’t feel the same way, charmer.” his voice was barely a whisper.
sole felt a lump grow in their throat as they tried to fight back the tears that threatened to escape. they tried to let out a simple, “okay, i understand,” but only silence filled the air.
deacon knows. he catches the tears building up in their eyes and knows their voice is silently attempting to scratch its way out.
he desperately wants to stop their pain, wipe their tears and remind them that he thinks no differently of their relationship, but something in his heart tugs as sole fights back to hide their vulnerability from him. “i’m sorry.” is all he truly lets out because in reality, his words are just as lost as soles own.
to sole, his words become a blur. their knees become weak as their vision becomes clouded with tears they refuse to let out.
‘i’ll give them time,’ he thinks but his feet struggle to find movement as he continues to stare down at sole, speechless for the first time in a long while.
before he could make a move, sole rushes out of the room, not sparing him a second glance. the sound of the door shutting behind him breaks deacon out of his trance, grounding him back to reality.
a tinge of regret pokes at his heart and he silently pushes it away, knowing that this was for the best. he didn’t have feelings for them and it was nothing but the truth.
or so he thought.
-
the next few weeks are almost a blur for him as his partner goes mia from the commonwealth. the first two weeks, he tries to let it be, convincing himself that sole might’ve needed some time to themselves to sort their feelings out, so he lets them. seeing them might be the last thing they need, so he tries to fight the urge to do so.
yet, as time goes by, the worry in his heart rapidly grows when they’re announced as missing by the minutemen. he grows unnaturally quiet upon hearing their words and feels himself grow weak at the possibilities of what could’ve happened to his partner.
searching far and wide did almost nothing for him and only flared his concern. there was little to no clues of their disappearance and the hope that he would find them sooner or later began to slowly deteriorate.
deacon takes in a deep breath, trying to soothe his mind of all the concern and regret. how could he let it get this bad? why couldn’t he at least check up on them day to day instead of running away?
deep down, he knew the truth of it all. it screamed volumes to him and no matter how much he tried to silence it, it grew louder with every passing second. he avoided sole as much as they avoided him because deacon refused to confront the truth between them both. he never provided closure because he never knew how to.
and the more he refused to face the reality of the situation, the longer the days stretched. he found himself pushing everyone away, spending countless nights with tears streaming down his face, hoping someday sole would just turn up on the railroads doorstep. he didn’t care if they forgave him or not— he just wanted to see them safe.
tonight, he found himself with a bottle in his hand, hunching over the counter as he drank the night. he silently thanked lady luck for landing him in an almost empty bar for no one to catch the state he put himself in. unbeknownst to him, a certain mercenary watched his back from the minute he’s entered the bar till the very last drop of his nth bottle.
“you know, i don’t think that’s a very healthy thing to do.” deacon looked over his shoulder, and though his vision continued to spin, he automatically recognized the annoying face that pestered him.
“let a man ‘ave fun, asshole.” he slurred, trying to push out a grin. maccready rolled his eyes and occupied the seat near deacon, folding his arms.
“i’m serious.” mac pulled the bottle away from his hands, tossing it to the bin nearby.
“hey, i was-!” before he could finish, the mercenary cut him off, not wanting to listen to a word that left his mouth. “do you wanna talk about it?”
his words cut through the facade he tried to pull off and deacon immediately fell silent upon his words. “i know we don’t meet eye to eye all that much, but i hate to see you like this.”
as much as he wanted to lie to his face, continue his said facade, he wasn’t physically able to upkeep that image anymore. it was extremely tiring, especially with everything going on. he let out a sigh and allowed his head to fall on his arms that rested on the table. “you wouldn’ understan’.”
theres a pregnant pause, but he eventually responds. “i don’t, but i could try.”
it takes him a few moments to decide whether or not to confide in someone, especially maccready of all people. to his dismay, the words leave his mouth before he could stop himself from letting it out.
“you won’t tell?” it’s a point of no return— he knows — but for some reason, he doesn’t take it back. was the consequences of actions finally getting to him? probably. he didn’t have time to think as maccready let out a small, but shocked, “of course.”
and so he lets it out— not everything — but enough for maccready to get the message. how it all lead up this point and how it contributed to their disappearance.
“i think i made a mistake.” he says, voice barely a whisper. “i made a huge fucking mistake and i don’t know what to do.”
mac looks down at agent with sympathy, detecting the pain trapped in his voice and sighs, “we all do. it’s just the human in us.”
the rest of his words grow obscured as his eyes droop, the alcohol and sleepless nights finally catching up to him. slowly, but surely, the world blacks out.
-
it’s almost dreamlike— the feeling of his hair being brushed softly and the way a familiar voice lulls him awake. he lets out a small groan as his head pounds violently from what he hoped was the night before. he thinks it’s all in his head; the soft touches and the soft voice that continued to fall upon his ears. it’s so painfully familiar, yet it couldn’t be but he felt his heart jump at the possibility of it.
“sole?” his eyes shoot open but close back in an instant as the gentle light illuminating from the window cracks filled his vision. his head dips on what seems to be their lap, trying to block it out desperately. he felt the same hand that brushed his locks rest on top of his eyes to protect it from the sunlight that only made his head throb more.
“morning sleepyhead.” upon hearing that sweet sound, tears began to form in his eyes once more. the one person he’s yearned to see for what seemed like centuries was finally within arms reach. just like that, his tears fell effortlessly, collecting in soles hand as it streamed down his cheeks.
“deacon?” before they could remove their hand to reveal the tears spilling from his eyes, he quickly places his hand on top of theirs as a silent request to keep his eyes hidden.
“i’m sorry.” he chokes out, voice cracking through each word that left his lips, “i’m fucking sorry. i-“ he gently squeezed the same hand that rested on top of theirs. sole remained silent, watching as he spoke through ragged breaths. he tried his best to muster out his apologies, thoughts — feelings — through the pounding of his mind.
“everything i said, it was a lie. it was all a fucking lie just to avoid having some kind of attachment in my life. i hurt you because i was scared of facing my fears.”
“lie? scared? deacon, what-,” their words drifted into nothingness as deacon continued on.
“no matter how much i tried to run away from it, i knew i couldn’t. i had feelings for you. feelings more than this partnership that we both agreed to do, more than the best friends we claimed to be.” at this point, his feelings poured through the cracks of his heart and he knew that he would fix it this time, even if sole no longer felt the same way. “i fell for you hard. i was in love with you and i still am, sole.”
after a deep breath, he continued on. “you don’t have to forgive me. you don’t even have to give me the chance to love you properly, i just want you to know i’m sorry. i’m sorry it had to take you to leave from my life for me realize how much this meant to me. how much you meant to me.”
for a moment, it’s still; the air seems tense at first and time seems to freeze. there’s this sense of fear that overtakes his mind for a mere second.
soon enough, time seems to continue on as sole places a soft kiss on his forehead, allowing it to linger for a few seconds. “we’ll talk about this more when you wake up, okay?” they whisper and as reassuring as it sounds, he’s still terrified. terrified that he’ll wake up alone.
“will you be here when i wake up?” he tries to let it out calmly, but there is a hint of panic and unsureness in his voice he couldn’t push away any longer. all of that seems to melt away as sole lets out a small chuckle, his heart swelling with a mix of pain and relief.
“yes.” they reassure, “i’ll be here for as long as you need me.”
he let out a relieved sigh, keeping his hand on top of the one that covered his eyes. for the first time in weeks, everything finally felt right.
“love you, charmer.” before he could hear their reply, he felt himself being pulled into slumber that quietly called his name.

“Get the hell up, you have to get ready.”
The man kicked you in your stomach and grabbed your arm, pulling you upstairs to the bathroom
“Wear this dress and fix up your face.”
He left the bathroom and you quickly jumped into the shower
Today was the “big day”
You were being auctioned off
Obviously, you were terrified and nervous
However, your current “owners” said that if someone doesn’t buy you today, they’ll make your life a living hell
They were hungry for money and if no one wanted you, you would’ve been a big waste of their money, time and energy
Well, not really — they just needed to blame someone for their lack of success
Plus, you’re the first person that they’re selling
They kidnapped you when you were walking home from the train station
You didn’t have much family nor friends which kinda made you the perfect target
You cooperated with your two “owners” because you didn’t want to get hurt
Yet, it still happened anyways
They’d often kick you, or slap you, or pull your hair
Nevertheless, you didn’t complain because you wanted to stay out of trouble
When you finished getting ready, your “owners” tied your arms and legs together and threw you into the trunk
The auction event was big
You could tell that you this event had plenty of rich and powerful people just by looking at all the cars
Your owners took you inside through the back door and told you to fix your hair
Once you did, they dragged you behind the stage and made you wait there for nearly 3 hours
There were other girls lined up in front and behind you, half looking terrified and half looking excited
In those three hours you overheard some girls talking about a certain man they wished to be bought by
Those were the girls who were “excited”
They were talking about how they went “all out” to impress him
You tend to not judge people but, you couldn’t help yourself
Who the fuck wants to be sold to anyone?
You couldn’t wrap your head around their thought process
They were practically gushing about this mafia guy who was supposedly young and handsome
Even if he was, why the hell would you want to be someone else’s property?
You muted their voices so you didn’t have to hear their nonsense and soon enough the auction started
One by one, girls and boys went up on stage and the bidding started
You were surprised because some of those girls got sold for only a couple hundred bucks
When it was your turn, your owners basically dragged you on stage and held you wrist as tight as they could so you couldn’t run
“A young, ripe, virgin finishing up university. Starting bid, $50,000.”
One by one, people raised their auction paddles and offered more for you
Your owners went wide eyed after the bids started increasing by $10,000
You eventually passed 1 million and were near 2 million
Random old men were raising their paddles higher and higher, determined to buy you
Eventually one of them had enough and said “5 million dollars!”
The room went silent and your owners were about to say “sold!” when someone interrupted and said “10 million dollars”
Even your mouth dropped
10 million?!
The man stood up and walked closer to the stage
Your two owners recognized him and started bowing multiple times
“S-She’s all yours, Mr. Jeon! Thank you so much. Please take her.”
This was the first time you saw the two males scared and nervous
And it kinda frightened you
It took a lot to scare those two but, this guy did it effortlessly
So, what in the world would happen to you?
You got dragged off stage again and the auction continued
You were dragged into a private room where the man who had just bought you gave the two men 10 million in cash
7 brief cases stacked on top of each other, full of hundreds
The two males happily accepted and let you go with the man
He didn’t want to stick around for the event so, he pulled you out of the building and pushed you into the car
“Anders, drive us home.”
The car ride was silent in the beginning
You’re eyes were glued on the window and his were glued on his phone
About an hour later, you fell asleep against the window and he noticed
He slapped you across the face and pulled you’re body away from the door
“What’re you sleeping for? You did absolutely nothing today. Do you think you’re some kind of princess? Do you think can sleep wherever you want whenever you want? Keep your eyes open. If I catch you sleeping again, I’ll make you regret it.”
Tears gathered in your eyes and you couldn’t hold it in
You started to sniffle, making Jungkook look over at you
“Shut up! If I hear you cry, I’ll force you to walk all the way home, barefoot”
You covered your mouth with your hand and lowered your head
After taking a moment to breathe normally, you apologized
“I’m sorry, Mr. Jeon. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
Jungkook raised his eyebrows
“How do you know my last name?”
“I heard my owners call you by that na-”
Another smack on your cheek, this time a little harder
“How dare you call them your owners?!”
Your eyes held so much terror, and it was a turn on for Jungkook
That was the moment he realized how much control he had over you
You were so naive and innocent, it made him want to ruin you
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Jeon! I didn’t realize! It was an honest mistake.”
“Just wait until we get home” he muttered under his breath but you were able to make it out
You were terrified and rightfully so
Once you got home, Jungkook didn’t have any mercy on you
You were running from him, not knowing where you were going
You ran upstairs into a large bedroom and locked the door
“Please, don’t hurt me!” You cried, clutching onto the top of your dress that he ripped apart
You thought he was on the other side of the door, calming down but the closet door busted open and there he was
You tried to open the room door but he was faster and pulled you back onto the bed
“Already causing so much trouble for me, little one.”
He hovered over you
“I’m sorry. I’m scared. Please, don’t kill me.”
You started to cry under him
You looked so precious, begging for your life
He couldn’t resist
He took off his suit and ripped your dress open
Underneath, you were wearing a red and black lace lingerie
He let out a low growl before attacking your neck and marking you all over
“Wait! Sir! Please! Mr- agh! Mr- Mr. Jeon! No! I’ll give you money! Please! I can give you all the money in my bank account if you just let me go! $59,000 is all I have! I can-”
Jungkook started to chuckle against your neck
“59,000 dollars? That’s all? You expect me to set you free after you give me 59,000 dollars?”
He laughed right in your face which broke your heart
It was your hard earned money
You hated to see someone discredit your hard work just like that
You frowned and got tearful
“It’s all the money I have.”
You said in a quavering voice
Jungkook looked at you
You were dead serious
“I bought you for 10 million dollars and you want me to set you free for $59,000. Anyone with a brain would deny that offer.”
He slapped you again and continued on
Jungkook sucked your neck, breast and chest; leaving dark, purple marks all over
“Wait! Mr. Jeon, I-I’m actually waiting till m-marriage.”
“That doesn’t matter, anymore. You’ll be getting married to me, anyways.”
“No! Please!”
Jungkook pulled down your underwear and rubbed two fingers up your slit, making you shiver
“So pretty. I can’t wait anymore.”
He pulled out his thick shaft and you started to panic
“No! No, no, please! I don’t want this! I don’t want to do this, please!”
He spat on your opening for some lub and pushed his whole length in harshly
You groaned in pain when he did but couldn’t fight back
Your hands were against his chest but, pushing him off wasn’t easy
He started thrusting inside of you at a cruel speed, causing you gasp really loudly before wailing
“Hey! Stop! Please! It hurts!”
Jungkook pinned your wrist next to your head and fucked you deeply
After hours of fucking, cum and blood covered his cock and the bedsheet
He smeared the blood and cum mix all over your body
“Look at you, covered in your virgin blood mixed with my cum. You look so pretty.”
You were mumbling incoherent words, unable to think straight
He forced three orgasms out of you, of course you weren’t able to think straight
Sweat covered your forehead and your tight hole was leaking cum and blood
He pushed in one more time and began fucking you hard
You were squealing under him, telling him to stop yet he slapped your ass and grabbed your throat
“Your cunt seems to love my cock. That’s why you’re cumming so much around me. So stop telling me that it hurts because I know it’s a lie.”
One more deep push and you both came together
He laid down next to you and pulled you onto his chest
“Next week, you’ll officially be mine.”
You weren’t listening
Because you were passed out
It was your first time and he had made you cum at least 17 times
It would be surprising if you didn’t pass out
Jungkook didn’t lie when he said that you’ll be his in the next week
He made one phone call and whoever was on the end of the line planned a huge wedding in a week
You woke up one day and were forced into a white gown
Once you put the pieces together, you had a panic attack
You were getting married to this man you’ve only known for a week
You were being so uncooperative to the point where Jungkook had to come to you and set you straight
He quickly fucked you back into submission and made you get ready for your wedding
After your wedding, loads of fucking
You guys didn’t even show up to your reception party because Jungkook could not stop fucking you
And it continued like this for a very long time
You weren’t sure how you were still producing cum
Every morning, every night, sometimes in the middle of the day, he wants to have sex
It’s not like he’s slow or gentle either— he’s aggressive in bed, it’s tough to handle him
You usually end up passing out and even that doesn’t stop him
The next morning you wake up tired and sore however, he wakes up needy and wanting more
Sometimes he’ll fuck you hard enough to make you pass out right in the morning
Even when he comes back from a mission, he still has the energy to fuck you
You just don’t understand
For weeks, you can’t walk straight because of him
And it hurts to put any sort of pressure on your lower abdomen
Despite all of that, you still love him
After all the manipulation and brain washing he’s done to you, he’s convinced you that you’re in love with him
And that you won’t survive without him
You’ve been craving for love and attention for your whole life and Jungkook was finally giving some
Why would you want the person who makes you feel loved and appreciated gone from your life?
Jungkook used guilt tripping to make you stay with him
Not to mention, taking advantage of your toxic past
Stockholm syndrome ending for the win 🥇
Sorry for any mistakes!! Have a good day<3

To be a human - Scaramouche x reader - Part 1
Synopsis: You knew committing to a relationship Scaramouche would be no easy task but you loved him dearly and unlike others, you believed he wasn't evil. But as a mortal and the devoted protector of your village you were too much of a good person, too much of a human compared to him and your differences slowly start to show.
Next: Part 2
Type: mostly angst, this part is still light tho
Warnings: none... yet
Length: not as long as it seems. I'll try to write the next chapters as soon as possible
Scaramouche turned his back to the mountains he's been staring at to look at the path leading to Qingce village. The sun shone through the fog above the rice fields, colouring everything in golden light. Trees sighed as the gentle morning breeze caressed them while glaze lilies slowly started to close their blossoms.
The view was absolutely mesmerising but it didn't absorb the exoticly dressed, short man even for a minute.
'Finally' he snorted unpatiently as you appeared out of the fog, walking towards him with a big smile. 'What took you so long?'
'Good morning' you answered in a calm, low-key but still visibly cheerful manner.
He mumbled some words to himself but you didn't even try to understand what he was saying. It was probably for the better anyway.
You were both happy you could finally see each other but Scaramouche would obviously never express such feelings, not even towards you. You didn't care so much about that though since the time you spent with trying to bare with him finally paid off. You could confidently say now that you actually knew him and his difficult personality well.
Yes, the constant need to search for clues that could tell you about his hidden emotions was a little tiering but you could usually put up with it.
You haven't been able to see him in a really long time as well. You were living in a small village in Liuye while Scaramouche was always travelling around Teyvat and could only visit you between two jobs. He wasn't the type to write letters so sometimes even months passed without you hearing anything about him.
He came back to you yesterday agter five weeks, to spend a little time in Qingce, the village you lived in and protected with your biggest gift, a Hydro vision.
'Where do you want to go?'
'Doesn't matter.'
'We could go to the forest! It's really pretty in the morning. And later we could pick some chili. I promised Pops Kai that I would bring some to him.'
He didn't react. You knew he didn't like you - his words - 'being a slave of those people' so he just ignored the fact someone requested something from you again.
'How did your last job go?' You asked as you two were slowly walking below the rice fields, watching the sun come up from behind the mountains.
'Could have been worse' he answered curtly. 'Inazuma is a pain in the neck. And there were some... unfortunate events I do not wish to discuss. But at least now I'm back.'
He looked up to the village and his piercing blue eyes narrowed as he took a glance of the neat but definitely archaic looking houses.
'Even this hick town is better than thet hell hole.'
Your facial expression strained for a moment as you heard him insulting the village which happened to be your favourite place all in Teyvat. You calmed your expressions but couldn't help and sting back a little.
'I thought you liked Inazuma' you retorted in a dry tone. 'It's where you're from after all.'
Scaramouche's face immediately darkened and you instantly realised the big mistake you made.
You knew a little about his origins, just enough to understand why he never told about it to you. Regret appeared in you for mentioning his past. At least Scaramouche didn't scold you for it but the air between you two visibly got heavier.
You continued your walk in silence and you couldn't stop cursing yourself for saying such insensitive things. It took two minutes for you to start bickering - this number made you feel sad and stupid.
But then again - he didn't even realise how hard he insulted your village and even if he did, he probably wouldn't regret it by one bit.
You lifted your chin and looked straight into the distance. You could see the various fatui agents scattered around the village, all standing guard for the sixth harbinger next to you.
You didn't like him being a part of the fatui at all but there wasn't much you could do about it. You only hoped and prayed that he one day would leave them after getting enough of the Tsaritsa and her overwhelming, suffocating power. After all, he only joined them because they 'seemed fun' and so far they were more of an annoyance then an genuine source of amusement for him.
'Unless he likes all the bloody tasks they're handing to him' you thought to yourself and then couldn't help but feel a little sick in the stomach.
You loved the man walking next to you but not every part of his personality. Not that part which screamed evil.
You weren't blinded by love. You knew he was indeed cruel sometimes. The part affecting you, his rudeness, his hatred towards any type of affection didn't concern you, it was actually kind of amusing. You loved to tease him about it and when he had an actual soft moment... it was heaven itself.
But you couldn't help but feel worried for others. What was he actually doing behind your back? Did he ever... kill someone? He seemed to be enjoying ending monsters a little too much. And he was quite open about his feelings towards humans. He hated all of them... you were probably the only exception.
'Say, Scara' you decided to broke the silence. He glanced at you, his face and movements still stiff. 'If there was a job suiting you in Liyue...'
'Stop tryna make me quit the fatui' he cut into your words in a harsh tone. 'It's not going to happen.'
'That's not what I was trying to do. I just... want to see you more often. Even after months I can only get a day or two with you... and we're not even alone.'
'If it's the Tsaritsa's order then I will follow it.' You averted your eyes. Barely a sentence in and you were already dejected by his words. 'Even though... I'd like to see you more too.'
You quickly rose your chin just to catch a glance of him rolling his eyes before he quickly turned his head away.
A wide smile lit up your face and you couldn't help but instantly start to gently tease him.
'Oh my, am I mistaken or is the almighty Balladeer actually admitting his oh-so-ridicoulus wishes to a mortal? Scara, are you okay? Yore getting soft, be careful before you get so weak even a slime could defeat you!'
'Just shut up, okay?' He growled at you but you just happily laughed. He's back. 'I'm gonna take my words back if you only show disrespect at...'
'Sure, sure' you smirked. 'Just admit you have a crush on me, Weeky-mouche!'
'Your nicknames are absolutely ridiculous' he claimed, ignoring the rest of the sentence.
'Oh, so what do you want me to call you then?' The temptation was too strong, you couldn't help but wink at him which made him growl in disgust again. 'Sweetheart, perhaps? Or honey?'
'I swear, you're as annoying as that damn red scum' he snorted, referring to his colleague, Childe.
You wanted to continue teasing him but as you turned right on the path you were walking on, a small shilouette - even smaller than Scaramouche's - appeared in front of you.
'Oh, little Yu!' You gasped, recognising the little 4-years-old girl.
Her dark hair was sparkling from the light of the morning sun and it put a tiny fire into her golden eyes as well. She looked like a magical little creature in the mystical forest, surrounded by old trees and young flowers.
A precious smile lit her face up as she saw you and the little girl reached out with both of her hands.
'Miss Y/n!'
You picked her up in an instant. Your favourite thing in guarding Qingce village was the people that lived in it and Yu always had a special place in your heart.
'Are you picking flowers?' You asked her and gently brushed her hair out of her face. 'For who?'
'Mommy' explained the little girl. 'It's her birthday tomorrow!'
'You're a very kind little lady, Yu' you praised her with a gentle smile. Holding a tiny, adorable creature like her was amongst the best feelings you've experienced, next to being with your lover, Scaramouche.
You didn't realise it was mainly because you were completely touch-starved.
Yu nodded but she didn't look at you. You followed her glance and you realised she was staring at Scaramouche.
The man was standing three feet away from you, with crossed arms and a hostile look on his face.
'Who is he?' Little Yu asked from you, fixing her eyes on the unfriendly expression of Scara's.
'His name is Scaramou... Just call him Scara.'
The man and the girl stared at each other.
'You needn't be afraid of him. He doesn't bite' you said jokingly but the little child's face remained serious.
'Why isn't he smiling?' She asked quietly. Scara glared at her.
'He's a little hard to make smile but he's still a good person' you promised her.
'Are you sure?'
Her words were innocent but they hit you really hard. Your breath stopped for a second and the fake smile on your face faded away.
'Now listen here you little...'
'I am sure. Don't worry' you cut down Scaramouche, sending a warning look to him.
He stayed silent but he looked like he could explode at any moment.
Maybe the child was able to sense it, maybe not, but she tried to get out of your hug all of a sudden. You put her down carefully, not forgetting to caress her hair and rosy cheeks even though her words upset both of you.
'I'm gonna go pick more flowers.'
'Yes. Be careful in the forest.' You warned her. 'Call my name if you're in danger!'
She nodded and ran away on her bare feet, looking like a little fairy among the old trees.
Leaving you alone with Scaramouche.

I don't know if you've done this before :( but could you maybe write about the Obey me brothers after an argument with MC?? Like a fight make up kind of situation??
400 years later.....
Well, maybe not that long, but certainly long enough. I'm sorry >.<. Hope this doesn't put you off on sending other things because I did like doing this one!
Obey me Brothers + MC After a Fight
Lucifer
It was late into the evening when you heard the knock at your door. Before you could ask who it was, you heard the even timber of Lucifer’s voice behind the door. “[Y/N], it’s me. May I come in?” There was a long pause than usual between his introduction and question, seeming to debate asking, or your response, before he asked it.
To be honest, he had a right to be cautious because you weren’t sure what your answer would be before you opened your mouth. “Yes. Come in.”
The heavy door opened and Lucifer stepped in. Prim and as well stationed as ever, but the confidence normally in his face diminished just the slightest. “I…came to apologize.” The words seem to want to drag out of his throat. Like it’s the hardest thing he’s ever had to say. Not the best start for an apology.
“You didn’t have to treat me that way.” You tell him. Telling you like a child in front of everyone. Getting your hand smacked for something you didn’t even do. No coming to give some lack luster, dutiful apology he doesn’t mean. “And don’t say your sorry if you’re not.”
“I am sorry.” Lucifer insisted, before he took a deep breath and tried to relax. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have embarrassed you like that in front of everyone. I was upset, and took it out on you. Sometimes you’re an easy target because I know you’ll care for me no matter what I do. We always hurt most the ones we love.” Your cheeks tint at the comment. Damn him and his suave words.
The demon makes the effort to cross the threshold and take your hands. “Please know that I am truly sorry for my behavior. I will strive to never make you feel foolish, or less than, again. My mission in life now is to show you how much more than I find you over everyone else.”
You roll your eyes a little at the comment. “Let’s not get carried away. You’re starting to sound like Asmo.”
You giggle when Lucifer gave a forced, disgusted shutter. He then lifted your hands to his lips and gave them a kiss. “Am I forgiven?” He asked.
“I suppose.” Annoyingly, he was right. You would always care for, and love him, so it was hard to stay mad at him for long.
“Good,” he said, with his usual prideful smile, “I’m glad. I do plan to still make it up to you though. So make no plans for Saturday.”
“Will do.” You agreed. Giving him a tiny salute. He then left to let you finish getting ready for bed. Ideas of how he’d ‘make it up to you’ swirling in your head.
Mammon
There was a sharp rap at your door that rung out clear in your room over your headphones. You were curious who was here at this hour, but got up to go answer the door before the tried again.
You open the door and are immediately confronted with a bundle of flowers being shoved in your face. Almost to the point of the blooms bursting against your cheeks. You stagger, at the afront of color, and the bouquet is pulled back slightly to reveal Mammon behind them. “I…bought you these flowers. To say I’m sorry.” The more he talked the more his voice trailed off. His normally confidence draining like the color from his face.
“Isn’t it rather cliché to buy someone flowers to apologize?”
Mammon flinched at your criticism. “I didn’t know what else to do. If you don’t like them I’ll buy you something else. Anything you want! Just please…talk to me.” Please forgive me, was what he was really saying.
You look at the demon for a moment. His defeated stance not fitting into his character at all. Ironic, since the fight was about Mammon being too full of himself. Confidence was one thing, but ever now and then it was too much, and when you tried to talk to him about it he turned on you. He had immediately regretted it, but you refused to talk to him for several days after to cool off.
Apparently, that was the worse punishment he could think of.
“You don’t need to buy me anything Mammon. I’ve already forgiven you.”
“Really??” He asked. Seeming unsure of what he’d heard or that he could trust you.
“Really.” You repeat, and immediate find yourself in his arms. Your flowers falling to the floor as he hugged you.
“Thank you [Y/N]! I’ll never do anything stupid like that again! I promise!”
“Well now, let’s not make promises we can’t keep.” You tease. Patting his back. “We all make mistakes Mammon. I’ll be angry with you sometimes, but I generally forgive you. How can I stay mad at my ‘First Man’ for long?” His hold on you tightened a little. It lingered for a moment longer before he let you go.
“Yeah. Right. Don’t you forget it.”
Levi
You were getting ready to head downstairs when there was a knock at your door. It was a surprise, since you were going down to meet everyone. So who was up here now? You open the door and find everyone’s favorite otaku, out of his hole and in front of your door, staring at you.
“Y-Y-You…You weren’t answering my texts.” Levi finally got out.
“That should have been a hint.” You tell him. Perhaps a bit more curt than need be.
The bluenette straightened in alarm before his shoulder slumped again. “I know. I’m sorry! But I couldn’t stand the thought of you being mad at me! I know I can get a little…-“crazy?” You interjected –“excited about my games and stuff, but I really didn’t mean to snap at you!”
The two of you had been playing some new quest game that was all the rage apparently on the deep otaku net. Supposedly it was unbeatable. No one had actually ever seen the final boss ending yet. Which of course meant Levi was determined to be the first. Confident that his eons of experience wouldn’t lead him astray.
Sadly, the legends of the unbeatable game were true. And after hour after hour of crushing defeat Levi snapped and took it out on you. He’s locked himself in his room after. Ashamed, and upset that he hurt you; if his texts were anything to go off of.
“I threw the game away and I’ll never play it again. I promise! I’ll never go all rage beast mode on you again as long as I live! Just please forgive me and talk to me again!”
“Oh Levi, it’s not that serious.” You insist as you reach out your hand to his clasped ones in front of you. Reassuring him. “We all get a little crazy when things don’t go our way. I forgive you. In the future lets try to play games that are a little less….taxing on our relationship, if we can manage.”
“R-R-R! Relationship!” Levi stammered. Turning bright red in front of you, which made you giggle. You lean in to give him a kiss on the cheek. Really frying his circuits. Maybe it was a little bit out of you missing Levi when you were fighting. And maybe it was also his ‘punishment’ for the fight as well.
Satan
Tucking into your homework for the evening, you look up from your desk when there was a knock at the door. It was sharp, to the point. You immediately knew who it was, and debated not answering. However, that would be rude and a level of pettiness not even you could manage.
“Hello Satan,” you greet when you open the door. Correct in guessing who was there. “How can I help you?”
The blonde seemed wounded by your formality, usually such a champion of manners. But he was a clever man and knew you were doing it to put some distance between you. “I came to apologize.”
“As you should.” Ok. Maybe you were a little pettier than you like to admit.
“You’re right, and I should have been here sooner. I was just….embarrassed.” Satan ran his fingers through his hair. “He just makes me so angry sometimes! Being so high and mighty. Bossing us around. I try to keep it under control but….I can’t.” Given he is the Avatar of Wrath, it’s a wonder he made any effort to keep his rage in check. Everyone says he was getting better though. Even his relationship with Lucifer was getting better; even with this spat. “It pains me more than I can tell you to know that I upset you in the process. Turning on you like that like an idiot when you were only trying to help. It was so stupid.”
“It wasn’t very like you.” You admit, and Satan gave a single, bitter scoff.
“Maybe not now. Maybe with you.” Cautiously he reached out his hand to take yours in a gentle hold. “But I am sorry. Please know that I’ll strive to not let my anger get the better of me again.”
“I’m sure you will.” You said. Squeezing his hand back. “And, I forgive you. I should know by now not to get involved with any of your fights. But I care about you all so much.”
“But you care about me most, yes?” He asked with a soft smile. To which you giggle and kiss his cheek.
“Yes. I care for you most.”
Asmo
It was late afternoon when you heard the knock at your door. Typically, everyone was off doing their own activities at this hour, so it was a surprise to have someone looking for you. You open the door cheerfully at first, but then frowned. “Oh. Hello Asmo.”
“Hello [Y/N]-kun.” Asmo greeted brightly, but you could tell it was forced. “I…wanted to come see you. To apologize. For acting so ugly earlier.”
It’s not often that Asmo lost his temper. He usually left that to his silly, older brothers. Rising above in dignified beauty, as he liked to put it. But every now and then it got the best of him, and his tongue was sharper than any knife in the draw when he got that way.
“What you said really hurt Asmo.”
“I know,” he admitted frowning. “I haven’t been able to sleep all night thinking about it. Look at these bags!” You frown as he pointed to his under eyes, and he realized he was being selfish again. “I’m sorry I said such awful things the other day. I don’t have an excuse or fix for it. Except to say that I’m sorry, and I hope you forgive me.”
You let out a soft sigh at his words. He did seem sincere. It was a little odd to see Asmo so down. “Alright, I forgive you.” The demon immediately perked up with his usual smile and took your hands in his.
“Thank you [Y/N]! Let me take you out shopping, as a further apology. I’ll buy you anything you like!”
“So we’ve resorted to bribery now?” Asmo giggled at your joke and you nod. “I’ll right. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to get out. Anything I want?” Asmo nodded and made some suggestions on what you could spend his money on as you walked. Inevitably ending up on lingerie, which earned him a smack.
Beel
You had just gotten back from class when you heard the knock at the door. It startled you. You had only just gotten back a moment ago, so what remarkably good timing.
You finish taking off your uniform jacket before you open the door. Startled, yet again, to find Beel behind it. “Beel?”
“Hi [Y/N].”
An awkward silence filled the space, one that hadn’t been there since you first arrived in the Devildom, before you spoke. “I uh…was going to change. I just got back from class.”
“I know. I waited for you to come back.” The red head confessed. Nervously scratching the back of his head. “I wanted…to talk. I wanted to apologize.”
“You don’t have anything to apologize for.” You reply. Now nervously scratching the back of your head as well. “If anything I should apologize.”
Beel was so sweet and kind. But sometimes, his ‘space cadet ways’ over anything that didn’t involve food or fitness was very hard to deal with. He’d forgotten you were supposed to meet, yet again, so when he showed up an hour late for your date yesterday you had given him an ear full. He’d been hurt, but took it. Now you just felt bad, like you had kicked a puppy, with it over.
“But I should have remembered. It’s not fair that I forgot when we were supposed to meet. Again.” He looked upset with himself and fidgeted with his hands. “I really am sorry I forgot. I don’t want you to think you’re not important or anything. I’m just dumb.”
“You’re not dumb!” You scold Beel. Not accepting him putting himself down like that. “Can’t we just agree that we’re both at fault. You should have remembered, but I shouldn’t have yelled at you either. Can’t we just….make up? I hate fighting with you.”
Beel smiled softly and leaned forward to give you a hug. “I hate fighting too. I think I’ll be ok if we both take blame. That seems fair.” He let you go and stepped back. Seeming back to his usual, easy going self already. “Do you want to do a make up date? If you’re free. I can take you to Madam Scream’s or we can go get Fire Iceies.”
You giggle and nod. “Sure. That would be wonderful.”
Belphie
It was so late at night when you heard the knock at your door that, initially, you thought you dreamt it.
Hearing it again, you woke up and threw on your robe over your pjs to go answer the door. Groggy, and a little concerned as to who could be here at this hour. Something must be wrong.
“Belphie?” You question in a whisper. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to see you.” He said. Remarkably less groggy than you were for a change. “I had to see you.”
“In the middle of the night?” You question. Getting more alert and annoyed at being woken up by him.
“Yes. I couldn’t sleep. Imagine that.” His fingers twirl at his long bangs while he looked down at the floor. “I came to apologize.”
“Apologize?” You repeat. Shocked, more than anything, that he was here to apologize. Not that he did deserve an apology to you, you just didn’t think he’d do it.
“Yes. To apologize. Can we make up now?”
“That’s it??” You remark after his ‘apology’. “You say you’re sorry like that and I’m just supposed to forgive you?”
“Yes. That’s how apologies work.”
“No it isn’t!” You snap. Louder than you wanted to with the late hour. You set your teeth and wheeze through them. You don’t want to start another fight. “You apologize because you feel bad about something and want to make it up to the person. It has to be sincere.”
“I am being sincere.” Belphie insisted. “This is sincere as I get.”
“Well it certainly doesn’t feel like it.” You reply. Crossing your arms.
It was Belphie’s turn to sigh at you. “Look. I’m not like Asmo or the others who are great with words. I came to apologize, and that’s it. I was wrong and I wanted to say I’m sorry. That’s the best I can do.”
“Why do you even want to say your sorry? If you don’t sound like you mean it.”
“Because I hate you being angry with me.” You blink in surprise at Belphie’s confession, and he sighed again. “I hate it. I hate not talking to you. I don’t care what anyone else thinks of me, but if you hate me, I can’t stand it. So, I came to apologize. To do anything so you wouldn’t hate me anymore.”
You uncross your arms and scrunch your lips a little bit. “That’s a better apology.” He looked back up at you with a questioning look. Seeming surprised that he had ‘done good’. “And, I don’t hate you. Just because I’m angry with you, for good reason, doesn’t mean I hate you. I could never hate you.”
The demon smiled softly. His expression tired, but hopeful. “Thanks [Y/N].”
“Now, we need to get back to bed. It is the middle of the night after all. And we have school.”
“Ok.” Belphie agreed. Then stepped into your room and made way to your bed.
“In your own room mister!”

The Brothers and Side Characters Play the Sims
I don’t know what possessed me to make this but WHATEVER. I’ve been playing the Sims since I was a wee little girl, and I’ve seen my fair share of weird Sims stuff that I feel would fit these bozos perfectly.
My Sims have a Functional Family Life Because I Don’t (Lucifer)
God dammit Levi’s obsessed with another game... ugh.
Spends 5 minutes in Create-a-Sim and hops into a starter home.
Lucifer’s the type to start with all the average stuff and then build their stuff up as his sim gets promotions.
It’s just... so peaceful...
...he’s adopting a dog.
Look at his new little virtual family... his sim-kids are self sufficient and getting A’s in school, his Sim spouse MC or Diavolo take your pick loves his Sim-self, his sim-dog-
WAIT NO- THE DOG’S AN ELDER?!
AAAAAAAAAAAAA-
...
He’s fine. It was just a virtual dog. *sniffle*
He’s now spending his free time drinking Demonus and playing the Sims.
What’s a mod? Levi why does your sim have gun?
Behold, My Gorgeous Home... It’s a Box (Mammon)
Mammon, like the rest of the HOL, is mooching off of Levi’s Origin account.
“AW SHIT! This house looks awesome! I’m gonna build it for Sim-me to live in!”
Mammon proceeds to build a box with rooms. Yay...
He just picks the funnest sounding job if he picks any job at all for his Sim. That’s how he ended up making 9 dollars an hour in the criminal career.
Didn’t stop Mammon from buying that solid gold bathroom set from Get Famous... a box with solid gold bathrooms.
His Sim is broke send help-
“Leviiiiiii my sim needs money... the people my sim kidnapped and is forcing to paint aren’t making enough money...” “Ugh... press control shift C and type ‘motherlode’.”
...Levi made a mistake.
“FUCK YEAH! MOTHERLODE!”
His sim’s life is so chaotic, he has a piranha pool that his sim has almost died in twice, the sim is carrying on several torrid love affairs, his sim got struck by lightning, his sim has nearly died in a grilled cheese making accident twice... in the same day.
At least once Sim-Mammon and Sim-MC get married things calm down a little.
Mammon finds out what custom content is and proceeds to download EVERYTHING HE CAN FIND.
And now he’s asking Levi why his computer is running so slow.
Expansion Pack King (Leviathan)
He got into it back when the Sims 2 was new, he’s a veteran fan.
“Bro remember when Agnes Crumplebottom would show up and whack the shit out of your sims if they were flirting?”
“Remember when that witch would show up randomly on the lot you were on if you had Makin’ Magic?”
“Remember when Bella Goth was abducted by aliens and we just... didn’t question it?”
He whines about the Sims4 and how crappy it is but still buys every expansion pack, game pack, and stuff pack.
This boy watches like 40 hours of built tutorials and ends up sobbing over his weird roofs.
“WHY DOESN’T IT LOOK AS NICE AS THE ONE I’M LOOKING AT?! THIS ISN’T FAIR!”
The mod folder is so full istg-
Levi gets custom content for the sole purpose of making his favourite fictional characters.
This is why Henry and the Lord of Shadows are married and Ruri-chan and Sim-Levi are roommates.
Oh my god they were roommates-
Levi also added his brothers to the world and uh... Sim-Mammon died in a tragic pool accident F.
Levi then proceeded to befriend the Grim Reaper.
He’s anxiously awaiting the release of Paralives.
Wait Gameplay? In This Build Simulator? (Satan)
Satan’s here to build and leave. Gameplay who?
Our favourite bundle of rage is a master architect and the amount of followers on the Gallery he has shows it.
He takes up those build shell challenges and always ends up making them look positively perfect.
Asmo’s always using his houses, and Satan often takes requests when he gets bored.
No Mammon, he reserves the right to refuse to build a golden castle for you- YOUR SIM HAS 40 SIMOLEONS-
No mods, no CC, he’s building with what EA gave him.
...and EA gave him debug objects, and he’s not going to explain how to get them.
The one time he did actually play with a family... it was one sim and seven cats.
He tries to play without cheats... and ends up getting frustrated and turns on cheats.
All hail the Pets Expansion Pack.
Custom Content Soap Opera (Asmodeus)
Asmo spends 5 hours in Create a Sim then just... clicks out of the game.
That’s how it goes most of the time, buuuuuut when he gets super invested in a family he’s made, boy howdy is he INVESTED.
Sim A is carrying on an affair with Sim C who’s in love with Sim B who’s married to Sim A but Sim D wants to kill Sim A and C even though they’re the illegitimate child of Sim C-
When Asmo realizes that in the Sims 4 he needs to manufacture all the drama himself and he can’t just sit back with a glass of wine and watch the fireworks, he switches to the Sims 2 and 3.
“...why is this old lady beating up my Sim..?”
He immediately recoils in horror upon seeing how ugly the Sims are pre Sims4.
HE NEEDS TO FIX THIS-
Ah, there we go, perfect. Custom Content to the rescue!
He ends up remaking the entire world just so he doesn’t have to look at weird looking Sims.
Asmo is the only one to have finished a proper Legacy Challenge, but it gets crazy chaotic after gen 3.
“My sim just got abducted by aliens and now he’s pregnant- WHAT?!”
He has about 40 saves and only two he actually plays.
Just a Big Ol’ Happy Family (Beelzebub)
Beel found the game, proceeded to make everyone in create-a-sim to the best of his abilities, and made everyone get along.
That’s why Sim-Lucifer and Sim-Belphie are on a swing set together, they’re friends :D
“Hey Luke do you think you can make this?” “I-is that a cake shaped like a hamburger?” “Yes. Please make.”
He took one look at the cooking options and decided to max out his Sim’s cooking skill to unlock all the options.
Beel proceeded to drool all over his keyboard. Gross...
Boy howdy did he have some crazy dinner suggestions!
Overall, very wholesome Sim-life, except for the time Sim-Levi died because the toilet caught fire, don’t worry, Sim-Beel knows how to make ambrosia.
All is good in the Sim save...
...until Sim-Beel ate pufferfish nigiri and fuckin died-
Wait Did I Not Pause- (Belphie)
Huh, this game looks fine... I’ll play for a little- *SNORE*
Belphie makes some sims, plops them into a starter home, plays for an hour, then falls asleep.
He wakes up five hours later to absolute carnage.
Three sims have died because someone decided to make Mac and Cheese and the oven caught fire, the kids were taken away by social services, and the dog ran away.
“...heheh, holy shit everyone look.”
He doesn’t play often, but when he does, death occurs. He has found out every death method for every game from Sims 2 to 4.
And that INCLUDES the Sims Medieval! You guys remember that game?
Sometimes it’s not intentional, but Belphie got bored with the totally normal life his sims were living and decided to spice it up.
“Why are the ghosts breaking my showers..?”
Help There’s a Bug- (Diavolo)
The Crown Prince started playing when he noticed Lucifer was playing it.
He was immediately obsessed.
Dia mostly plays the Sims Medieval because he likes the feeling of achievement after completing a quest!
“Barbatos... why isn’t my Sim completing their task? The icon won’t show up.” “My lord it appears the game is bugged.” “:(“
No one thought to tell Diavolo that EA doesn’t plan on offering bug support to a game made in like... 2009
This doesn’t matter! Look at how great his kingdom is doing- oh no his hero has the plague-
He plays through the Pirates and Nobles expansion and manages to get the peaceful ending, he’s so proud of himself.
“MC! Look! My Monarch’s sword is permanently on fire and I’m fighting an evil wizard!”
When he does play the other Sims games he’s pretty basic, though, he does a great job at furnishing!
Dia gets crazy sad when his Sims die... he turns off aging.
Builder no. 2 (Barbatos)
Barbie doesn’t have time for this... but when he does, he builds.
No create a sim.
No playing the game as intended.
Just builds.
It’s relaxing, okay? A nice little suburban house he’s never going to play in, maybe a treehouse, maybe a big Hollywood Mansion...
The only time he actually plays the game outside of build mode is when someone needs his help to fix something in-game.
He does download custom content build items if he feels bored by the current selection.
Oh Crap What Am I Doing?! (Simeon)
Help him. Please.
He’s so confused.
“Luke, why is my sim upset?” “He’s hungry, Simeon.” “Oh, how do I fix that?” “...Simeon-”
There’s a toilet in the middle of the living room.
The fridge is facing the wall.
There’s no bathtub or shower.
The house is on fire- there is no god- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-
Okay, once he gets the hang of it he’s sitting pretty. His sims have good jobs, the kids are getting good grades, everything’s fine.
...
But Simeon won’t forget the nightmares.
What Even is This Save? (Solomon)
Solomon’s save is the definition of chaos.
One sim’s a vampire, the other is a spellcaster that really wants to fight the Callientes for some reason, there’s one normal sim that’s always sick for some reason,
It gets weird, confusing, and horrible.
Just how Solomon likes it.
His house makes no sense, like, what even is architecture?
Money cheats are needed because Solomon‘a goal of chaos and confusion is proving to be kind of expensive.
Square up Mortimer Goth, Solomon’s sims are here to steal your weird knight statue that’s worth a shit ton of simoleons for NO REASON.
He joined the scientist career for the sole purpose of getting to the alien planet and kidnapping adding an alien to the household via cheats.
The vampire ended up dying on their wedding day because Solomon forgot that he gave them the sun weakness.
Oh well, the ghost got added to the household! VAMPIRE GHOST!
The Child (Luke)
Before you say Luke’s too young to play the Sims, you should know that I was nine when I first started playing, and I turned out fiiiiiiiiiine.
He’s just happy to be playing.
Look, his sims are gardening :D
Look, two of them are getting married :D
Look, they had a baby :D
Look, his sims are building a rocket ship :D
Look, his sims’s rocket just crashed-
The concept of death hit the little angel right in the face that day.
“*sniffle*... my sims...”
Don’t worry, with tears in his eyes, Luke quit without saving and everything was fine!
Speaking of My Sims, Luke played MySims Sky Heroes and that was when Luke had his first bout of gamer rage.
MC came over to hang out with Solomon and Simeon, and in the distance they could just hear:
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY TIME WASN’T FAST ENOUGH TO CONTINUE THE STORY!? I’LL SHOW YOU FAST ENOUGH TIME!”
Okay, maybe Simeon should take the game away... just for a bit... he should take heed not to be bitten by the incredibly angry chihuahua.
Bonus:
MC: Why are our Sims married?
*Insert Boy Here*: Uh... that’s weird... I have no clue why they’re doing that...
