i do think with comics sometimes there is a difference you can tell between a writer who genuinely doesn't like the character they're writing vs a writer who likes the character so much they're jumping at the chance to write their own interpretation of the character even if they both kind of feel similar like "this writer doesn't have any respect for the character in question"

been thinking about this recently and trying to put it into words but

I just love stories (media or fics or otherwise) where sneezing is a pivotal part of the story, like is integral to the plot. Not to say that any story with its own plot and just incidental sneezes isn't good! For purely horny purposes tho, I just love the indulgence of "yes, characters sneezing is literally what drives the story forward", like the unabashed focus on the sneezes in such a meta way really does something for me idk 🥴

bonus points if it actually makes for a good story because threading that needle is tough lol, so many times things that are horny and indulgent are not technicallyremarkable (which to be fair can arill be enjoyable) but when sneeze IS the plot and it's GOOD?? It's like a magic trick.

qfoolish is definitely one of the characters of all time. if i had that same relative lack of awareness then i, too, would ask my friends for morality check-ins... i mean, more often than i already do. like, sure, making sure that something you want to do isn't irredeemably evil before you do it is a good thing; however, i there maybe should have come a point -- around two thousand years ago, if not earlier -- where he might have realised that, if he has to ask, he could err on assuming that whatever think he wants to do is, probably, a bad thing to do. i'm bringing this up because i've only been on this earth for twenty-[cough] years and i've managed to pick up on that one. you'd think a builder would be better at pattern recognition, you know? but no, instead he's out there free-balling "can i do this to you" with every person individually instead of generalizing "maybe this is a bad thing to do." it's an interesting way to approach a non-human view on morality, and i like that he has committed to this roleplaying decision even when it causes friction or misunderstandings with other islanders.

I was thinking about how people (comics and fandom both) talk about Robin Jason, how reckless he was, whether or not he had anger issues, but no one (comics of fandom) ever talk about Death in the Family's (admittedly brief) implication that Jason's grief for his parents made him suicidal and that's where his recklessness came from.

Batman #426 Jason jumps the gun on rounding up some baddies, Bruce calls him out on nearly getting himself killed and asks if he thinks this a game. To which Jason very nihilisticly replies, "Of course, all life's a game"

And then on the next page Bruce makes a comment about Jason acting like "someone looking to die" and Alfred immediately transition to talk about the fact that Jason's hiding the fact that he's grieving.

It's an implication that gets buried by the rest of the story, but it's definitely there.

And it's easy to see how Jason would get there. Whether she died of drugs or illness Jason must have spent a long time watching his mother wither and fade. In contrast his Father's death was so abrupt he spent ages not even knowing it had happened.

Ans so with deaths so wildly different but equally arbitrary, he comes to the conclusion nothing is really safe. So why shouldn't he throw himself full force at each case when each has the same chance of killing him?

It's tragic then, that meeting Sheila, finding out he has a living parent. Something which likely abates his suicidality, is what does end up killing him.

I feel like Lokius is the first ship in a while that I've really gotten into and it feels different...

Like with Ed and Stede (OMFD) I knew they were at least going to kiss when I started the show (I had already seen posts on Twitter) and I never really had a doubt that they would be endgame.

On the other hand, my all-time favorite Marvel ship is Tony and Bruce. I never actually expected them to be canon, and was basically just happy with little nuggets of subtext (and text) but content with my own headcanons.

Maybe it's just because our hopes haven't been completely dashed yet, but it just feels fun watching something unfold. Something significant. If they delegate them to a "bromance" I'll be disappointed, but also there's so much evidence we can truly interpret it any way we want.

Considering how old and ugly and saggy this nigga Spec looked like after his fight with Hanayama, also he's pushing 100, he'd make for a TERRIBLE build. In the Confucianism Book of Conduct 礼记, it talked about 3 kinds of ‘revenges’

Killing of father cannot be in existence under the sky, meaning, must take revenge for the killing of one’s father.

I was reading about chinise culture and read that. So, in mdzs, jl was supposed to kill his father's murder, based on chinise philosophy? That's why he stabbed wwx? I am curious ( and if it is like that, his forgiveness is even more important to me, at least)

Also, if it's not too much, what's your opinion about one of the last jc's scene, where jc raises his hand and then doesn't hit jl? I've read a ton of meta (breaking the circle of abuse... When we know he has never hit jl!). The scene confuses me and I was wondering if maybe I lack cultural contest.

Nonny, I'm not entirely certain where the emotional disconnect is on JL stabbing WWX except for I guess protagonist goggles. Like this isn't even a matter of philosophy, Chinese characters and people are not a giant black hole of "well they're too different for us to understand using human emotions!" nor are Chinese characters and people a monolith of "philosophy" and "cultural practices" that cannot be parsed outside of the in group.

Basically I guess what I'm asking here is "if someone tragically orphaned a child at age (1) month and that child is now a 13 year old who had a sword would you understand why this child stabbed the person who orphaned them, yes or no." I doubt Jin Ling was quoting philosophy about how he had to get revenge for his dad at that moment and more just? having an understandable human reaction? We can argue until 2300 about if it was the "correct" and "moral" reaction or not, but imo it was....an emotional reaction...much like how lots of characters in American media have human and emotional reactions.

(Also the revenge genre is not a uh, wholly Chinese concept, as far as I know lots of cultures round the world including the French which produced The Count of Monte Cristo also have stories about how you should take revenge against those who have wronged you. See Inigo Montoya's "you killed my father, prepare to die" from The Princess Bride as well.)

Lots of other people have written about JC's last scene in much more detail and much more eloquently than I will be able to manage here after grad school has started to fry my brain, if there isn't a consensus there, it just means that lots of people interpret that scene in a variety of different ways! pick the one you like best! Lit analysis is not a one size fits all correct answer generator.
