Ok! I've finally decided to put together a (somewhat) comprehensive tutorial on my latest art~

Please enjoy this little step-by-step 💁‍♀️

First things first--references!

Now I'm not saying you have to go overboard, but I always find that this is a crucial starting point in any art piece I intend on making. Especially if you're a detail freak like me and want to make it as realistic as possible 🙃

As such, your web browser should look like this at any given point:

Since this is a historical piece, it means hours upon hours of meaningless research just to see what color the socks are, but...again. that isn't, strictly, necessary 😅

Once I've compiled all my lovely ref pics, I usually dump them into a big-ass collage ⬇️

(I will end up not using half of these, alas :'D)

Another reference search for background material, and getting to showcase our models of choice for this occasion~

When picking a reference for an actor or model, the main thing I keep in mind (besides prettiness 🤭) is lighting and orientation. Because I already kinda know what pose I'm gonna go with for this piece, I can look for specific angles that might fit the criteria. I should mention that I am a reference hound, and my current COD actor ref folder looks like this:

Also keep in mind, if you're using a ref that you need to flip, make sure you adjust accordingly. This especially applies to clothing, as certain things like pants zippers and belt buckles can be quite specific ☝️

Now that we've spent countless hours googling, it's time to start with a rough sketch:

It doesn't have to be pretty, folks, just a basic guideline of where you want the figures to be.

The next step is to define it more, and I know this looks like that 'how to draw an owl' meme, but I promise--getting from the loose sketch above to below is not that difficult.

Things to keep in mind are--don't go too in-depth with the details, because things are still subject to change at this point. In terms of making a suitable anatomically-correct sketch, I would suggest lots of studying. This doesn't even have to be things like figure drawing, I genuinely look at people around me for inspiration all the time. Familiarize yourself with the human form, and things like weight, proportions, posing will seem a little more feasible.

It's also important at this stage to consider your composition. Remember to flip the canvas frequently to make sure you're not leaning to one side too often. I'm sure something can be said for the spiral fibonacci stuff, which I don't really try to do on purpose, but I think keeping things like symmetry and balance in mind is a good start ✌️

Next step is just blocking in the figures. Standard. No fuss 👍

Now onto the background!

It's frankly hilarious how many people thought I was *hand-drawing* these maps and stuff 😂😂 I cannot even begin to comprehend how insanely difficult that would be. So yeah, we're just taking the lazy copy and paste way out 🤙

I almost always prepare my backgrounds first, and this is mostly to get a general color scheme off the bat. For collage work, it's really just a matter of trial and error, sticking this here, slapping this there, etc. I like to futz around with different overlay options until I've found a nice arrangement. Advice for this is just--go nuts 🤷‍♀️

Next, I add a few color adjustments. I tend to make at least 2 colors pop in an art piece, and low and behold, they usually tend to be red and blue ❤️💙There's something about warm/cool vibes, idk man..

Now we move on to coloring the figures. This is just a basic block and fill, not really defining any of the details yet.

Next, we add some cursory values. Sloppy airbrush works fine, it'll look better soon I promise 🙏

And now--rendering!

I know a lot of beginner artists are intimidated by rendering, and I can totally understand why. It's just one of those things you have to commit to 💪

I've decided to show a brief process of rendering our dear Johnny's face here:

Starting off, I usually rely on the trusty airbrush just to get some color values going. Note--I've kept my sketch layer on top, but feel free to turn it on and off as you work, so as to not be too bound to the sketch. For now, it's just a guideline.

This next stage may look like a huge jump, but it's really just adding more to the foundation. I try to think of it like putting on make-up in a way~ Adding contours, accentuating highlights. This is also where I start adding in more saturation, especially around areas such as ears, nose and lips. Still a bit fuzzy at this point, but that's why we keep adding to it 💪

A boy has appeared! See--now I've removed most of the line layer, and it holds up on its own. I'll admit that in order to achieve this realistic style, you'll need lots and lots of practice and skill, which shouldn't be discouraging! Just motivate yourself with the prospect of getting to look at pretty men for countless hours 🙆‍♀️

I'll probably do a more in-depth explanation about rendering at some point, but let's keep this rolling~

Moving forward is just a process of adding to the figures bit by bit. I do lean towards filling in each section from top to bottom, but you can feel free to pop around to certain parts that appeal to you more. I almost always do the faces first though, because if they end up sucking, I feel less guilty about scrapping it 😂 But no--I think he's pretty enough to proceed 😚

They're coming together now 🙆‍♀️ Another helpful tip--make sure you reuse color. By that, I mean--try to incorporate various colors throughout your piece, using the eyedropper tool to keep a consistent palette. I try to put in bits of red and blue where I can

Here they are fully rendered! Notice I've made a few subtle changes from the sketch, like adjusting the belt buckles because I made a mistake 😬 Hence why you shouldn't put too much stock in your initial sketch~

The next step is more of a stylistic choice, but I usually go over everything with an outline, typically in a bright color like green. Occasionally, I can just use my initial line layer, but for this, I've made a brand new, cleaner line 👍

And the final step is adjusting the color and adding some text:

Tada!! It's done!

All in all, this took me the better part of a week, but I have a lot of free time, so yeah ✌️

I hope you appreciated that little walkthrough~ I know people have been asking me how I do my art, but the truth is--I usually have no clue how to explain myself 😅 So have this half-assed tutorial~

your boyfriend’s adorable smile greeted you as you opened the door of your apartment, feeling the familiar warmth rush to your cheeks as you smiled back at him.

“hi, seok.” you whispered breathily as you stepped aside to let him in. stepping into the house, seokmin handed you a bouquet of your favourite flowers and a small paper bag. “what’s this?”

“just a small something for the prettiest girl in the world.” he said, smiling even more brightly at you and you could feel your knees turning jelly with giddiness. just how had you become so lucky to end up with the sweetest man on earth as your boyfriend?

“oh, you didn’t have to!” you said, reaching out to hold his hand, which he gave it to you readily. taking a step closer to you, seokmin quickly captured your lips in his, his other arm snaking around your waist so that you didn’t lose your balance.

you could feel your heart thumping loudly in your chest, threatening to burst as he moved his soft lips against yours.

“i had to, baby.” he whispered against your lips, causing you to giggle. “your expression was so beautiful, so priceless, i just had to get these for you.”

“oh god, i love you so much lee seokmin.” you whispered, pressing another kiss to his cheek before pulling him into the living room.

“so your family went out?” seokmin asked, as he shrugged off his jacket and sat down on the sofa. you followed his suite and sat down right next to him, interlinking your arm with his as you nodded. “yeah, but my brother will be back in a while.”

“your brother is in my year, isn’t he?” seokmin asked and you nodded again. he smiled at you sheepishly before saying, “oh that reminds me, something happened today.”

you felt yourself smiling even before he began telling you about the incident, knowing that since it was seokmin, he was going to make it funny even if it actually wasn’t.

“what happened?”

“so, there’s this guy in my year…and he’s really…handsome, you know.”

“handsome?” you asked, raising an eyebrow at the way seokmin was looking so nervous. just what had this ‘handsome’ guy done to you boyfriend?

“yeah. he’s really handsome. and so intimidating. i mean, he hasn’t done anything to me and yet i feel like shrinking away in his presence. so today uh, he asked me for my maths notes. and you know what i did? i pretended not to hear and ran away.” he groaned, burying his face into the crook of your neck.

you patted his hand gently. it was rare to see seokmin this flustered so you felt bad for him that someone had scared him this much. “come on, seok. that’s fine! i’m sure you can go talk to him tomorrow and say that it was a misunderstanding. and besides, you’re so handsome too! i bet he can’t be more handsome than you. and also, you’re such a talented singer. and so, so sweet. sometimes i think you’re an angel in human disguise.”

seokmin pouted at your sweet words, causing you to laugh. you pressed a quick kiss onto his pout, and soon it was replaced by that beautiful smile you always loved.

“actually,” he began again, “i think he sings too. he’s really popular. you should see the number of girls trying to hit on him everyday.”

“good thing the girls are distracted by his ugly face. they won’t try to hit on my beloved boyfriend though i am upset that they don’t recognise your looks and kindness.”

“no, i’m serious!” he said. “he looks great. hey, now that i think of it…you both kind of have the same nose…”

now you frowned. “same nose? um this guy, he wouldn’t be-”

“i’m back!”

the new voice coming from the front door caused both of you to flinch, seokmin’s arms wrapping around your body instinctively as he pulled you towards him.

jaehyun was just about to stride into the living room, a delivery packet in his hand with his dimpled smile in full glory when he froze at the sight of you. or rather, the sighte of you and your boyfriend in each other’s arms.

but then his eyes landed on seokmin and it seemed to widen in horror, and before you could jump up and explain to your older brother that this was your boyfriend, the two men pointed at each other before gasping, “you!”

“you?” you asked, head turning to look from seokmin to your brother. “you two know each other?”

“your brother is…jung jaehyun?” seokmin asked, looking at you in complete bewilderment. you blinked at him in surprise. “ye-yes?”

“why did you run away from me today, bro?” jaehyun interrupted, looking at seokmin equally bewildered.

“wait- wait, what?” you asked, finally the puzzle pieces fitting in your head. you turned to seokmin once again. “that handsome- that intimidating person was…jaehyun?”

seokmin groaned, covering his face with his hands. “now you get me, baby?”

“whom are you babying in front of me!” jaehyun gasped, causing you to glare at him. “shut up, jaehyun! you scared my sweet boyfriend! that’s why he ran, you moron.”

“but i never even talked to him!”

“yeah but if you go around with that lifeless look in your eyes and that bread man smile i’m afraid everyone would be terrified of you.”

“y/n, you didn’t need to go so far for me.” seokmin groaned beside you, finally peeping through the gap of his fingers. his eyes landed on your brother once again, before visibly gulping. “i, uh, i didn’t mean to run away. i, uh, just panicked-”

“but i don’t bite!” jaehyun complained. you wanted to remind him of that one incident where he bit your arm because you had blown his birthday candles but you decided to stay quiet and let the beloved men of your life solve their…dispute. “besides, i should be the one scared of you! you’re such a talented singer i really thought you wouldn’t talk to a noob like me.”

“mum told you not to use the word noob.”

“she told me not to use the word boob.”

“see?” you said, turning back to seokmin and prying his fingers off his face. “you’re scared of this idiot?”

and to your delight, seokmin cracked a smile at you, a small laughter bubbling at your statement.

“i’m still here, both of you.” jaehyun reminded you both, causing you to turn back to him again.

“oh dude, i’m, uh, sorry. i’ll, uh, send you the maths notes once i reach home.” seokmin said, eyes flitting all over jaehyun in nervousness. jaehyun gave him a thumbs up before saying, “that’s fine man. sorry for scaring you so much. we should get along more…especially since you’re dating my baby sister.”

“shut up.” you hissed and he stuck his tongue out, before walking over to his room. “i’ll be in my room so no suspicious activities, please.”

“whatever.” you muttered. as soon as you heard the door close, you grabbed seokmin’s face to pull him into a kiss.

“what was that for?” seokmin whined, after finally breaking away from the kiss.

“you’re so adorable.” you whispered, giggling a little. seokmin smiled at you, before booping his nose against yours.

“and you were so adorable when you were defending me, baby. i didn’t know jaehyun was your brother.”

“the world is truly round, isn’t it?” you asked.

“it is. oh, to think i was this terrified of my future brother-in-law.”

Authors note: so many people requested a part two to this Anything to make him smile, and I think I might have to make a part 3, also idk if there is a sword for this there is

Here Bucky and Sam were, back at the S.W.O.R.D. headquarters. And despite Bucky telling them he was done with this sort of thing he still found himself constantly being pulled back again. Thankfully they were just finishing up a mission report this time.

He didn’t enjoy coming to headquarters, too many people, too many looks despite them already knowing who he was.

But it wasn’t all bad.

“And that’s when AJ and Cass got caught, right in the middle of everything,” Sam said laughing at his own story about his nephews while eating one of the free breakfast bars from the break room.

Bucky’s head was faced in Sam’s direction but his eyes were focused past Sam, and on you. You were outside the door just across the hallway perched at the water cooler.

Now Bucky and you have reached some sort of understanding over the past few months, you would greet each other with smiles, genuine ones now, and sure you’d make small talk here and there nothing big, but today?Today you seemed out of it.

I mean this wasn’t the first time he’s seen you today, he walked by you when he first got there and he expected some sort of greeting but you kept your eyes down, mind seemingly elsewhere.

Even here at the cooler you looked distracted. Now, typically your face rested with the corners of your mouth tilted a little bit upwards, today your lips ran a flat line. Bucky would tell himself he didn’t care, but he couldn’t stop his mind from wondering if everything was okay.

Sam easily caught on as he looked behind him then back at the vibranium armed man. “Alright, go on.”

That seemed to grab back Bucky’s attention, “what?”

“Go on. Go talk to Y/n, you clearly want to. I’m out here telling a hilarious story and you just want to ignore me.”

Bucky shook his head, “no it’s not like that, just…” Buck’s eyes fall to you again before back to Sam, “something’s off.”

“Then go find out,” Sam simply suggested. Bucky wanted to argue and mind his own business but his body was already reacting as he pushed himself off from the counter that he was leaning on and began walking your direction.

Wanting the conversation to happen as naturally as possible he grabbed a cup and poured himself a drink from the water cooler that you were standing beside as you drank from your own cup.

He took a sip from the paper cup before lowering it from his mouth, “hey,” he said.

You responded by giving him a tired smile, “hey.”

Buck looked away, pressing his lips together. Usually you did most of the talking. He wasn’t exactly sure where to go from here. After taking another sip from his drink he figured he’d cut right to the chase, “are you…okay?”

You turned to him with your eyelids resting halfway. “You seem a little off, that’s all.”

“I’m fine, just tired. I didn’t get much sleep last night.”

Bucky knew how that felt, but he didn’t want to make this about him. “What happened?”

“Oh you know. The usual, just up all night crying, but don’t worry about it, it’s not a big deal,” you promised, trying to remind yourself not to give too much information to the attractive man which was difficult because he did make you a little nervous.

“I’m sorry,” is all he said.

“No don’t be, it’s just one of those things you know?”

He pressed his lips together and raised his brows, lines taking shape above them. “I do know how that is.” You tilted your head and he pointed to himself adding, “nightmares.”

“Oh, gotcha…well it’s just one of those things that we gotta keep moving forward right?”

He nodded again and you offered him a real genuine smile, it wasn’t as big as your usual but he could tell you meant it. With that little chat you threw away your cup, thanked him, and went back on your way.

Buck didn’t know what to do but he wanted to help you in some way, just wasn’t sure how.

Practically twenty minutes later he found you again as he was leaving the building.

“Hey I hoped I’d run into you.”

“Oh yeah? Well here I am,” you said with an exhausted expression still on your face.

“Yeah, I just wanted to say bye and I’ll see you next time.”

That was strange to you, he’s never looked for you before, not like this. “See you next time,” you repeated, finding this interaction odd. He walked past you but before he got too far he turned around again, “oh and uh, check your right cardigan pocket.” And off he went not even a stalling to see your reaction.

Automatically you reach in curiously. You felt a piece of paper in there and pulling it out, you realized it was folded in four quadrants. Unfolding it you opened it up and on it was an endearing picture of a tiny kitten, hanging onto a tree branch, with the words, ‘hang in there,’ plastered in the photo.

This was so hilariously silly to you, especially with the fact that it came from Bucky, the man who half the building was afraid of. Despite your day being crap, you couldn’t stop the laugh that started to escape from your mouth.

Hi so I have recently become a fan of LA Mihawk, and I came up with an idea. Mihawk x Shanks sister! Reader and they're in a secret relationship and Shanks finds out about it and OVER PROTECTIVE BROTHER MODE ACTIVATES but in the most hilarious way possible. If you don't like this idea feel free to ignore it, I was just curious. Also I was thinking it mostly be fluffy but if you wanna add a little spice here and there go for it, if you do wanna do this, I mean 😁😅

no but i love this??? (and i'm going to make this in a bit of a headcanon form because it got my mind spiraling)

because Shanks, first of all, would be the kind of big brother to bully his younger siblings relentlessly yet still affectionately. Constantly teasing and poking fun. Generally, besides that, on a day-to-day basis, he would be unbothered by his family.

But at the same time, he would be the most protective big brother there is to exist. He might bully you, but he would be the only one to do so. If anyone dared touch you, they would have a bullet through their head before they even had the chance to speak.

It becomes harder to protect you once he goes off to sail the seas with his crew, but not before vowing he would always be there for you if you need him (or when he thinks you might). Because to him, you will always be his baby sister.

So it might come to him as quite the shock when he returns from his adventure to see you all grown up. And when he hears you have been going out with guys in the village... oh boy.

He tries the typical tactic of trying to scare any interested guys off, either by simple passive intimidation or straight-up threatening to cut their bits off if they as much as dared to touch you. Much to your protest, his plans had a great success rate, and it would become the topic of many a fight in your house.

But then you meet Mihawk.

Who knows how it happened? Maybe in a bar, but the two of you very quickly and easily connected. You found something in him that you had never felt with anyone else before.

And though a notorious pirate that has the skill to kill entire fleets with just a flick of the wrist, Mihawk was the utmost gentleman when it came to you.

He had a soft spot for you, and though neither of them would admit it, he was very much like your brother in the way that he would kill anyone and anything that could do you harm.

You were his most-priced possession. His heart's biggest treasure, and if he could, he would show you off to everyone, but that was just not possible when your brother was one of his rivals at sea.

But you could not deny that sneaking around didn't add to the fun.

There was something fiery in the way you met up at night and hid from the people you knew. All the kisses felt deeper, the touches even more sinful.

That did also mean, though, that once you were caught, all hell broke loose.

Someone in the village must have seen something told someone, and the news spread like wildfire. Before you could do anything about it, Shanks was storming through the streets, pistol-loaded, ready to shoot a hole through your lover's head.

Your attempts at trying to stop him would be absolutely futile. Even when you had tears in your eyes as you tried to convince him that what you felt for Mihawk was genuine and that he reciprocated those feelings, your brother was not having any of it.

It was shocking, seeing your brother be so angry. While always protective and somewhat intimidating to other young men, he had never shown such pure rage as when he finally found Mihawk.

The hawk-eyed man, in contrast, seemed quite at peace with everything. He even ignored Shanks' fury to walk up to you and kiss the back of your hand charmingly.

'Enough!' Shanks shouted. 'You stay away from my sister.'

'Or what?' Mihawk smiled. 'Will you challenge me to a duel?'

'Yes.' Shanks simply replied.

Tomorrow. At noon.

'Or I can just kill you right now.' The gun in Shanks' hand clicked as he pushed the safety back.

if his daughter wants something, it will be hers in less then a few hours

in conclusion, Ayaka's life as the daughter of worldwide famous kodzuken is something a lot of people would want

The new trilogy means we finally got official French translations of the fifth and sixth games (the fourth already had one) so I did my thing and played through them, since they're always a lot of fun. Here are some things about French Dual Destinies I thought you might like to know:

Yes, it's set in France as per usual. They are all French people who live in Paris. And yes, that means that in this universe there is a Japanese village themed around yokai within throwing distance of Paris.

Athena lived in America in this version, and therefore peppers her speech with English and Spanish. My favourite unhinged franglais line was "let's get au travail" which I will be using from now on because it's hilarious

Many characters got French pun names again. Simon's name is "Jack Lamenoire" -- Jack, because the French version of Simon Says uses the name Jack/Jacques, and "lame noire" means "black blade". (Also he's not British or anything in this version, he just speaks in somewhat old-timey French.)

He has multiple nicknames for the judge that are all slight variations of "Your Baldness". He doesn't do that "-dono" suffix thing but he does refer to Phoenix in particular as "Maître Wright".

...I don't like pointing out things I didn't like buuuuuut his voice is a huge downgrade. Actually, to be honest, I don't like the new French voices that much in general... idk man they just don't sound very enthusiastic...

Filch's name is "Arsène Loupet", reference to the famous fictional thief Arsène Lupin, which I thought was pretty cool! (Herlock Sholmes was also a reference to that series too btw!)

Athena and Apollo use informal pronouns for each other pretty much from the get-go, but there have been some changes from the previous games: Phoenix now uses the informal "tu" for Apollo (and Athena) whereas in the prev game he didn't, Pearl now uses "tu" for Phoenix as well, and Klavier uses "tu" for Apollo now (but Apollo still calls him the formal "vous" lmao)

SPEAKING OF... SPEAKING OF. The French localisation continues to utterly baffle me when it comes to Klavier (or Konrad as he's called in French). No listen, liSTEN. In the previous game he was specifically stated to be English and did his law exams in England and dropped English words into his speech (and this is still the case in the trilogy version, I checked). But now?? They seem to have gone back on it and in this game he says he's German again, like the in English translation??? But he's still dropping English words into his speech randomly????? Look I already went through the five stages of grief when I found out they'd english-ified him, I made my peace with it, and NOW they change it???????

God and his new French voice sucks too (his old one was actually good)... what have they done to you my poor boy, was making you English not bad enough T_T Oh and he and Athena didn't even get their little language club moment where they both start speaking in the same foreign language?? Like, that just straight-up didn't happen here and I had been waiting for it aauuugh it's cool it's fine it's cool i'm okay i'm--

True to Dual Destinies fashion, there are still typos. In an emotional moment, Apollo took a leave of asbence from the office. Not absence. Asbence.

I can't put my finger on it but Robin's coming out scene felt more... respectful in French? The English translation was done over a decade ago so it feels somewhat dated, maybe that's why... I obviously don't know if she was purposely written to be a trans girl but she very much comes across that way, and it feels like the French translators were aware of that interpretation and took it into account, idk maybe it's just me

THEY GOT RID OF MY FAVOURITE LINE. THE FORESHADOWEY ONE WHERE SIMON TELLS ATHENA THAT THE PERSON SHE WANTS TO SAVE MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD DOESN'T DESIRE HER DEFENCE, AND HE'S CLEARLY TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF. THE FRENCH MADE HIM SAY SOMETHING ELSE WAY LESS COOL. I don't wanna be like "FRENCH TURNABOUT ACADEMY IS DEAD TO ME" because most of it was awesome, but man these occasional things made me wanna flip tables

Cosmic Turnabout and Turnabout for Tomorrow were great in French though, so there's that. Clay's French name is "Pierre" which worked surprisingly well because it means stone or rock, and the moon rock was also called that, so like, the phantom had to kill Pierre in order to get the pierre... idk it worked and it was cool

Simon and Athena switch to using informal pronouns for each other very near the end of the game, in the scene where they work together to psychologically mess with the phantom. It's around the time when they start openly calling each other by first name since everyone knows now that they're old friends.

Phoenix and Edgeworth also occasionally refer to each other by first name in this game, which threw me off completely. (Reminder that Edgeworth's French name is "Benjamin Hunter". Just picture Phoenix standing in front of Edgeworth and calling him BENJAMIN. Now you understand how absolutely bizarre it felt.)

My favorite part of this new event is Stitch just. Exists. He's just a friendly creature that happens to exist in this world of anime boys. Which while it makes Grim feel more at place stylistically it also has to imply that either

A) While the United States, Japan, and all other Earth counties don't exist in TWST, Hawaii still inexplicably does and

B) Either Lilo is running around somewhere and we get to meet her, just this cartoon little girl meeting very much stylistically different anime boys, or Stitch is immortal and somehow is still the same physical age while Lilo is no longer around

Oh my god okay but I am betting that they're probably just gonna go the kingdom hearts route where this is like, something that happens Before Stitch meets Lilo so he has some kind of wacky pre arrest adventure with the boys, and then it'll imply he's off to go have the actual movie occur after-

Though that does still imply that Hawaii exists in twst, which is hilarious- OR possibly we're still playing on kingdom hearts rules and the space ship will happen upon earth like it's its own world

Or maybe Stitch found his own way into twst and has to get back home and Yuu will be like "oh man this is a great clue to getting home"

author’s note: finally, a new theme! i’m on an angst GRIND, you guys. been feeling really unhinged lately thanks to my girl @intorder for giving me fuel for angst, who also beta read this hurt piece. oddly enough, my life has been pretty good lately, so idk why i thought to write this. i’ve never written for iwaizumi before, but he came to mind first when i thought of this idea. this was definitely inspired by that one scene in 13 going on 30, but i made it hurt even more. i hope i did iwaizumi justice, and i hope you all enjoy without crying?

“well? how do i look?”

iwaizumi turned around to face you as he showed off his suit. you couldn’t believe he was actually getting married today, and that the person he was marrying wasn’t you. it was hellish to shove your feelings down your throat for decades, especially when your friendship suffered god knows how many miles apart.

a part of you died the day he returned from california. you were so thrilled to see him, missing him so, but your heart shattered the second you saw he brought a girl with him. it was even worse when iwaizumi spoke to you about her, saying he felt like he knew she was the girl he would marry the second he saw her. you wanted to be that girl, and maybe you could’ve if you simply spoke up. after all, everyone always teased you two about ending up together growing up.

“you look great, iwa.” you force a smile. it wasn’t a lie, he was the most handsome man you’d ever seen, standing so proud and tall in his suit. not a single scratch or crease on his shoes nor any signs of wear in his jacket. as much as it pained you to see it, iwaizumi had grown up.

“you think so?” he asked, checking himself out in the mirror, scanning for any flaws in his outfit. “i could’ve sworn i saw lint on the back of my jacket.”

“oh, i can get it.” you offer. iwaizumi immediately said “yes, please” and “thank you” before you stood up to help him. his back faced you, shoulders as strong as ever, making this all the more difficult for you. if you were his bride, you probably wouldn’t be seeing him like this right now. it was bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, after all.

“how come your groomsmen aren’t up here helping you?” you ask, cursing yourself in your head for being so nosy.

“i’m sure you can understand i didn’t want oikawa up my ass before i go down there.” iwaizumi chuckled. you force yourself to copy his laughter, pretending as if you found this so hilarious. if oikawa were here, you wouldn’t be ridden with temptation right now. only he could stop you from saying things you knew you’d regret.

“i guess i should feel special then, huh?” you question. “be the first to see you like this…”

“mhm.” he replied, you see him nod in the mirror. “special privileges for my best friend.”

you felt your stomach tie up in knots as he said that. best friend. that’s all you were, that’s all you ever allowed yourself to be. it could’ve been you waiting for him at the altar, but instead you’re helping him get prepared to marry another woman, ready to beg him to run away with you.

you pretend to inspect the back of his jacket, knowing there wasn’t any lint anyway. it was absolutely flawless, just like him. this was torture for you, and you couldn’t stand another second longer.

“listen, iwa…” you begin to say. “i should tell you something before you go down there.”

“oh?” iwaizumi turned around to face you. you felt as if his eyes were piercing through your soul, making your heart race faster than it was before. “what is it?”

“i, um…” you hesitate. was it too late to go back? yes, yes it was. “i think you’re marrying the wrong girl today.”

“huh?” he furrowed his eyebrows.

“i mean, i think you should be marrying me instead.” you blurt out.

“y/n, what are you talking about?” iwaizumi questioned. this couldn’t be real, this couldn’t be happening right as he was about to get married.

“i’m in love with you, iwa. i love you.” you admit, your heart racing upon your confession. you should feel a weight being lifted off your shoulders, but something heavy still lingered on top of you.

“no…” he shook his head. iwaizumi had rejected the possibility a long time ago. even if he loved you just as long as you loved him, you were just too late.

“yes. i am.” you say.

“you’re saying this now?” he asked you. it almost made him want to laugh. life was just so funny, he thought to himself. why couldn’t you have said this before? why did you wait until he was about to get married? if things were different, iwaizumi would be reacting to this much differently right now.

“i know i should’ve told you before you went to california—“

“should’ve? i wanted you to!” iwaizumi interrupted you, much to your shock. “everyone said you were going to before i left! i just figured they were just messing with me afterwards…”

you remember telling oikawa how you felt about iwaizumi, it was his idea to tell him before iwaizumi left for california. you had it all planned out in your head, but as you stood there at the airport, you couldn’t find the words anymore. you chickened out, cursing yourself on the way home and the days that would come. it only made you feel worse when iwaizumi found someone.

what you didn’t know was that he expected your confession that day. you should’ve known oikawa would run his mouth. he always meant well, always hoping you’d end up with iwaizumi, but look at you now, a delusional fool.

“i was going to, iwa. i just got scared…” you confess to him. “if i could go back to that day, i’d do it differently.”

“well, you can’t turn back time, y/n. it’s too late.” he said coldly, almost like a stab to the heart.

“why not?” you ask, desperately clinging onto your delusions.

“i moved on.” iwaizumi replied. he might as well be twisting a knife, even if he was merely speaking the truth. “we've both gone down different paths, we both made choices, and this is what i’m choosing.”

“i just thought…” you began to say, but fall silent.

“just thought what?” he asked, raising his voice. “that i’d give up everything i’ve built for a last minute confession? one that i gave up on waiting for years ago?”

you don’t say anything. what was there to say? it was exactly what that sick part of you deep down expected. how stupid of you to think he would drop everything just because you finally had the courage to confess your feelings. if there wasn’t a whole wedding waiting to happen, maybe iwaizumi would change his mind.

you look away in shame. even if you didn’t speak your thoughts aloud, you still felt disgusted now that the reality of your confession hit you. you were terrible to think this way. not just a terrible person, but a terrible friend too. it was unfair to expect such a tall order out of him, especially now.

“my family’s down there, my soon-to-be in-law’s are down there.” iwaizumi said. “we care about each other, you know?”

“i know.” you say quietly as you bite your lip.

“y/n, you…” he let out a sigh. “you don't always get the dream house… but you get awfully close.”

you look up to meet his eyes, tears streaming down your face. to him, you were always the dream house. if only you had known that before, you thought. iwaizumi felt ridden with guilt rejecting you like this, and it didn’t help that you were crying your eyes out.

“please don't cry, y/n.” he begged you.

“what? no, i'll be fine, i promise.” you force out a laugh, no matter how much it killed you. you saw the look in iwaizumi’s eyes. he knew you weren’t truly okay, but he also knew that you were letting him go. it was the right thing to do.

“y/n…”

“it’s okay. i'm fine.” you wipe away your tears, trying your best to be strong. “i'm just crying because i'm happy. i want you to be so, so happy.”

you did, you wanted him to be happy. even if it wasn’t with you, you owed him the ability to be happy. it was the least you could do while you still had some of your dignity left.

“i love you, iwa.” you barely get the words out. “you… you're my best friend.”

you see iwaizumi’s eyes well up with tears, a rare sight to see. only you could produce such a reaction out of him. only you would truly have his heart forever, but life doesn’t always work out the way you want it to. it was just the way things go.

“i should go. everybody’s waiting for you.” you say, on your way out the door.

“y/n, i...” you stop in your tracks, waiting for what he’d say next, and it only crushed you even more. “i've always loved you.”

the professors definitely shipped it and had bets on you both

holding hands under the table is an absolute must

you’re both devastatingly awkward but in the cutest way

and he has a thing for walking behind you gripping the sides of your shirt or robes

you’re both terribly protective of each other

Happy Saturday wonderful fandom :) Ahhh the next in the line of goodies to come. This one doesn’t have a ton for them but doesn’t mean there isn’t absolute gems in it. So it'll be a littler shorter than the last one ha Also Aaron is amazingly hilarious in this episode. I love him to death. Let us get started.

5x09 Take Back

We start off with Tim being Watch Commander while Grey is miserable in NYC ha Things get immediately awkward when Chris arrives. Still clueless as ever asking Tim of all people about Lucy’s taste in houses. I mean if you don’t know her taste at this point should you really be buying a house together? Tim looks intrigued when he says he needs his opinion then it gets so awkward when it's about a house...

Tim is so very uncomfortable when he asks his opinion. Knowing this is going NOWHERE for Chris. I’ll never forget this hilarious post I saw about this scene after it premiered. I couldn't find it this time around. Had the lyrics from anti-hero by Taylor swift. ‘It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem it’s me.’ You ain’t ever getting that house with her because of that man sitting there LOL Idk why that post made me laugh so hard but it did. It stuck with me clearly haha

It’s so very weird Chris comes to Tim for this. It's obvious he knows Tim knows her the best. Crazy to me he's not threatened at all by that fact. Clearly he isn’t if he’s coming to Tim for advice. Blows my mind how blind he is. Lucy comes in asking what they’re talking about? Chris tells her he found THE house. Lucy looking as uncomfortable as ever at this news. Saying he's going to call the realtor and call her later. Lucy's high pitched 'I can't wait...' Couldn't be more awkward if she tried.

He gives her a kiss on the cheek and leaves. Tim giving that good ole fake Sanford smile when he does. Tim's face crack me up. Like he stole your girl and you have no idea you putz heh Also just so on brand for Chris to not see how uncomfortable Lucy was. He’s been blind their entire relationship It’s unreal. You can also see how much Tim hates seeing him kiss her. Even if it’s on the cheek.

It’s almost a grimace really as he watches it. Probably thinking of all the ways he could easily kick his scrawny ass haha That fake smile begging for Chris to leave the room so this awkwardness can pass. How Chris doesn’t pick up on either of these vibes I don't know. But then we call him the clueless clown for a reason don’t we?

Lucy doesn’t look comfortable till Chris leaves the office. Tim asking 'How the breakup is going?' HA Cleary it's going well Timothy...Lucy tells him she’s in the planning stages. Just reviewing the literature. Classic Lucy response. Wanting to plan this out completely before pursuing it. Tim telling her a psychology journal isn’t going to tell her how to break up with Chris. I mean he's not wrong.... It's just a bandaid you have to rip off even if its uncomfortable as hell.

He’s so matter of fact with his wording. Using a sports metaphor to explain how she should do it. Makes me wonder if he's actually done this before? Ha She’s adorable in her reply of saying ‘Playbill?’ She truly has no idea what he’s talking about. It’s too funny. It's comical really Tim giving her advice on how to break up with Chris. So you know he can date her haha

Tim has been very patient in all this but you can see him getting a little antsy about it. It is interesting how full circle this moment is. He set them up in 4x12 and now he’s ready to help break them down in this 5x09. Tim is just so ready for Lucy to do this cause he’s anxiously waiting to be with her. It’s pretty damn cute if you ask me. He’s trying to be patient but also is like can we hurry this along a bit?

Lucy says that’s too cruel she wants to handle it her way. No matter how this goes down Chris is going to be hurt though. It's how breakups go there is alway someone who walks away more upset about it. Her empathy taking the front seat in this decision. Where Tim just wants her to rip the bandaid off. Get this over with ASAP.

This is where we see little bit of Tim’s self doubt kick in. It's written all over his face when he asks her if she's having doubts? Worried she’s delaying this because she is having second thoughts about him. About them. Lucy immediately squashes his anxiety with her reply. Shooting massive heart eyes his way as well. She wants Tim to know she’s all in just like he is. That there is nothing for him to worry about.

I love how sure Lucy looks when she tells him 'No, I'm not'. She is so certain this is what she wants. Needs him to know this as well. Not a doubt in her mind about this whole thing. She just has stuff to work out with this breakup first. The certainty in her eyes is everything. Nothing makes more sense to her in this moment than him.

That confidence of hers is why Tim relaxes the way he does above. His whole body draining of the tension he was carrying. His cute smile saying ‘Good.’ Could this man be more of a soft puppy for her? Look at him. That hope and excitement back in his eyes. Lucy replying in kind with her own 'In love 'gaze. They’re both all in and it makes my heart very happy. Also they’re having a full on flirt session in Grey’s office for everyone to see.

I adore Tim being so open and vulnerable in this scene. Making sure she wasn’t backing out. The same Tim who couldn’t communicate in his other relationships to save his life. But with this he is checking in with her. Letting Lucy know his stress about her not breaking up with Chris yet. Lucy assuages his worries instantly. When it’s the right one the harder stuff seems a little easier. More natural. Lucy sensed that panic and instantly calms him with her words and heart eyes. Gah so good. Look at these idiots in love. I just adore them so very much.

This next scene with Aaron is pure gold. I love him so much he cracks me up. Never expected him to be as funny as he is. He notes how quiet she is being and is asking what's going on? Lucy letting him know she needs to break up with Chris. First off like to say we are all Aaron when he says ‘Finally.’ To her breaking up with Chris. Yesssss and Hallelujah finally breaking up with the clown. Nails it even further when he says Chris was never on her level. I mean yeah he never was. Not ever.

Aaron is speaking for the whole Chenford fandom in this moment LOL Chris had nine lives with her and they've finally run out. Aaron's reaction is the best part of this scene. I love that he knew where Lucy's heart was and it obviously wasn't with Chris. He knows it’s with Tim 100 percent. Like most people in their world do. Tim is her equal in so many ways it’s insane. Chris could never compare as Lucy figured out last ep.

Aaron tells her they can practice her breaking up with him. So it’s much easier when the time comes. It’s not a bad idea tbh. This is where it gets hilarious. Lucy brings up them looking at houses. Aaron kinda judging her for letting get as far as looking at houses. Telling her 'Yikes....' HA Tell us how you really feel my man. Lucy reprimanding him saying that is not helpful....Oh Aaron I love you so very much.

Lucy starts her speech trying to find her footing in what she is trying to say. She looks over at Aaron in the middle of it and see he is crying. lol If you didn't laugh at this scene you're dead inside. It's so damn funny. Lucy asking him WTF he is doing? Aaron telling her he is channeling Chris's pain LMFAO I mean he's not wrong she had to be prepared for an emotional response. It's just the way he went about this that is so hysterical. He is having way too much fun with this.

Telling her they should do angry next. I'm rolling. Lucy is doing some channeling of her own. She is channeling her man in this scene. It’s so funny. So aggravated with his role playing in this. Wondering why she asked for his advice in the first place? hahaha They then get a call about a 'Navi'. Lucy is so confused. Aaron geeks out and says it's from Avatar. Tells Lucy she should ask if it’s full grown. The look she gives she is channeling her husband again so much. ‘Aaron, it’s a fictional character...’ LMAO

I really love this ending scene with them. Aaron wants to do one more practice run with her. Lucy tells him she doesn’t need it. (Oh but you do....) That she’s just going to go with her gut on this one. It sounds like a solid idea in the moment but it's honestly the worst thing to wing it. Especially when it's something this intense.

When something is this emotional the right words tend not to just come to you IMO. They sure don't for me. I love him being brutally honest with her about it LOL Saying it’s a terrible idea. That he likes the sentiment but this isn't going to end well. I mean he’s not wrong as we will see here in a bit. Lucy once again channeling Tim in this moment. Cutting him off from saying anything else and just tells him good night haha

We get to the breakup scene we’ve all been waiting for. Lucy is bumbling and awkward. Not knowing where to start. Chris once again blind as a bat. He has no idea why she’s acting this way. Lucy curses Aaron for being right about this moment. Saying she should practiced more LOL I adore her panicking and defaulting to Tim’s playbook advice haha idk what’s funnier that or her being shocked Chris knows what she means by saying that.

All that prep and thinking this out and she went with her man’s advice on how to end this. This makes me giddy to no end. I bet you it’s cause Tim was on her mind from the minute Chris entered the apartment. My guess is that is part of the reason she fell back on his advice. Literally the most Lucy Chen thing ever to use it then be surprised Chris knew what she meant. I love her sfm haha

Chris stumbles around shocked as hell she’s breaking up with him. He seems so very blindsided by the whole thing. I mean if the man opened his eyes for once he wouldn’t be that shocked…But this Chris we are talking about. Lucy tries to get him to talk to her more. Saying they should sit down and talk this out. Chris just bails not wanting to talk at all. Not wanting to fight for her at all. Just takes off like a child who didn't get what he wanted.

Now I’m ok with this. Obviously we all are. Just goes to show you Tim was willing to fight for her and Chris wasn’t in the end. Lucy said it was over and he just left. I mean he wasn’t wrong there isn’t much to talk about out. She doesn’t love him. But still no fight in him at all after Lucy does this. Just folds like a cheap suit. A clueless clown from beginning to end...

We’ve reached the scene of the ep that made us all swoon and squee. I remember feeling so anxious to get to this scene. I had to re-watch the episode to truly appreciate it all. I was too antsy to get back to them sharing a screen. I was so damn giddy this was the place we were in. They spent the majority of this episode apart. So all I could focus on was her coming back to him in this moment.

I adore Lucy coming back into the station to talk about the breakup right away. Needing to share this news with him as soon as she could. I love that she returned to work just to tell him about this. So anxious to get back to Tim after it was done. Lucy wanted him to know as soon as she could it was over with Chris. Knowing he was just as anxious as she was about the breakup. It's sweet how he tentatively approaches her when she says why she is back.

He wants to be understanding about it. Seeing if she wants to talk about it more. Doesn't just want to jump the gun and bulldoze her feelings about the matter. Lucy isn't there to chat about that though. She wants to cash in on him asking her out. Because she couldn’t wait another second without him asking her out again. They're both so damn nervous and sweet in this scene. Fidgety and excited about the prospect of their future. Lucy messing with her hands the entire time as she explains the breakup. Tim keeping his distance while she explains it.

Gah I love her fidgeting near her ring as she approaches Tim. Anxiously awaiting for him to ask her out again. Lucy’s nervous way of reminding him to ask her again like they decided. How she looks into the bullpen before approaching Tim. Saying ‘So…’ He looks nervously excited by her doing this. Eric the king of expressions strikes again. The way his eyes go to check the bullpen as well before refocusing on her. He isn't sure what she is going to do in this moment.

The entire station can see into this office. He looks so friggin cute in his nervousness. I love that that she makes him nervous like this it's so adorable. Lucy gains her confidence and looks him directly in the eye flirty as can be. Asking him if there's something he wants to ask her? The whole purpose of her returning to work is to secure their date. Telling him about the breakup was the catalyst yes. But truly she was wanting to hear him ask her out again.

Tim see's her confidence and starts shaking off his own nerves. Replying in a sassy manner. Their banter the undercurrent of this moment going forward. Fueling them with the courage to say what they want to. Tim can't help being playful and sassy with her replying ‘I can’t remember.’ Doing that cute smirk of his that I love so very much. Wanting to push her buttons a little because well it's Tim.

Lucy is affectionately violent in her reply haha Look at her she is beaming with adoration. She loves this goober in front of her so very much. ‘Don't make me hurt you.’ Because she would legit hurt him if she had to in this moment haha I saw a funny parallel from this to her ripping that tape off in 4x07. She'll do it Timothy LOL Don't test your girl.

I love how he gets serious after she says this. It's the way he slowly moves towards her. That intent look on his face in the first one. *fans self* gah. Then in the second one the way he melts for her. In a way only Lucy gets to see. Asking with as much giddiness and excitement as I ever seen in this man. "Do you wanna go out on a date? Look at this puppy of a man. He is beyond excited to ask her this question again. Knowing now he will get a yes with no stipulations this time around. There is still a little nervous hesitation in his delivery which is precious.

Lucy is bursting at the seams with absolute giddiness when she replies ‘Yeah. I do.’ So happy he's asked her again. How one looks when the man they love asks them out. There’s so much to love about this scene. He’s asking her out in the Watch Commanders office. I love that sfm. Both ecstatic they’re finally going on a date with nothing holding them back now. They’re at work and have to restrain themselves from being too obvious. Which you know they suck at heh

My god anyone looking in on them in that last gif could see how in love these two are. They're so excited just to be around each other right now. The way they’re just standing there looking into each other’s eyes with the dopiest in love smiles. I cannot. I remember thinking the break was gonna take forever to get through. What a time to be alive watching this the first time I remember. LOL

Is it just me or does John have more chemistry with Genny than he does Bailey? Thought I’ve always had from this ep. Probably just me but I always thought they had solid chemistry.

Celina also has a hard time in the ep. With their suspect dying in custody. She has a tough rookie year.
