speaking of “what else is new” the eternal genre of Takes available online or off through any platform that go like “this hangup / issue people can have can impede the success of like, connection & relationships & other aspects of someone’s life” like oh groundbreaking insight, go on. & then the conclusion is just “And That’s Bad” generally through like, criticizing any hypothetical individuals in a “have you considered that that’s bad? have you considered stopping? why haven’t you? sounds like a lack of Individual Responsibility...and maybe...You Suck??” vein like oh, again, groundbreaking. and it’s fast easy & free [sense of righteousness] i guess b/c it’s like oh i’m just helping, are you saying it’s Good / Better to have to struggle with / be impeded by xyz issues hmm? and like “here i am up on the cross >:)” satisfaction if anyone’s disagreeing lol like not only am i correct but ppl Hate it so it’s gotta be cutting edge, rather than it’s like, this is the most basic, well-trodden ground possible here. people hear about the notion of Ableism, resent the idea this might be a complicated thing to engage with requiring effort (but will also complain that idk it’s not serious b/c oh alllll people want to do is unreasonably issue a list of frowned upon language. like yes that’s all that exists and it must be frivolous vs being if nothing else an exercise in asking someone to shift their perspective / framework around taken for granted ideas) and then be like “well enough is enough (hasn’t done anything) i think this has gone too far & have we considered that it sucks to be depressed?? what about the people Dealing with other people dealing with issues who are doing everything right by being Not Mentally Ill but burdened or punished by the mental illness of others. not Their responsibility” like yes if we keep this in the realm of Individual Responsibility Apolitical Vibing then we can just call it a day. what does anyone expect the “absolutely demolishing these hypothetical Complacent mentally ill people, one issue at a time until everyone learns they should strive to be normal” to accomplish here. like oh enough, nay, Too Much consideration of Supporting anyone out here. i think it’s time we turned to voicing Disapproval & even moral judgment condemnation of these hypothetical individuals. can’t argue with that unless, what, you Want people to have problems? you think it’s good and right to potentially harm other people / make interpersonal relationships more difficult??? sounds like someone has some growing up to do 9_9 lmfao like again. just visionary & groundbreaking insights which is why this approach has kept being continuously reinvented here & everywhere else this whole time. like how would this relevantly / helpfully apply to the Reality of anyone’s situation on any side of anything. vs like well at least some people will be mad about This one, good posting
#ppl going ''hmm what a hugely complex topic tied to all other aspects of our lives...which'd be Resolved if everyone had My Common Sense''#take it back on this site by a decade like ppl going ''trans people on tumblr are so unreasonable'' & ''tumblr's so Anti Recovery''#the catchphrase of like. idfk ''recovering'' to a state of being nt i guess. b/c that's The Way & how it works for absolutely everyone#like of course there's gonna be idk Takes abt how to hypothetically Support ppl's struggles that'd be deemed Mental Health Issues which are#in turn at least Potentially counterproductive / unfounded/misguided but like. well throw the whole matter out then right#forget everyone in turn having to struggle through ongoing efforts to support Other People in this realm & plenty of others; theoretically#just say it Sucks of people to make other people deal with / be negatively affected by their Issues & who could disagree? toxicity gang??#or even just the vague implication that if it's Extra Effort put on Normal People who are acting correctly then that's bad too#cue any ideas that like. if friends are too much effort in [pick any way you could interpret that] it's Bad#or really if they're Any effort it can be seen as bad. you Are a romcom protagonist & friends Are unconditional nonstop backup#i think if going ''have you considered that you suck'' at people hard enough would bestow w/e concept of perf Mental Health uponst them#then we'd've been all set by now...and does everyone really think that the like. call it mainstream ideas abt Good Relationships and/or#Good Communication are universal & objective & immutable & everyone agrees on those standards already right now#and like. A Post doesn't have to be something someone thinks applies to everyone / isn't abt their personal experiences but#the way plenty of shit is phrased in posts Pwning the concept of someone being Too Anxious or sm shit you Know it's meant to be general lol#and even then of course it doesn't have to be like ''any random post must be dedicated to real; specific support or it's worthless''#but people clearly also like. are like yep this is on principle; ideally this will Affect people & they'll Get Right#(i mean probably it's more just about their own satisfaction in feeling totally justified while Also getting inevitable negative reaction)#but also like you know what. someone's Issues may not be contained within the realm of what either You *or* They can control#that like all issues of what provides ppl material support / meets their material needs are matters of Mental Health Support or what have u#like pointing out that shit like healthcare & housing & accessibility are matters of suicide prevention...#like yeah of course individual responsibility is relevant in everything but there's broader concepts of Responsibility beyond that#only addressing the individual responsibility in any matter is the flattest easiest shit you can do. why else is it so popular lol#and going ''but have we tried ascribing personal failures / inferiority into ppl struggling w/issues????'' yes. we have & continue to do so#like 95% of my life including now i am beset every day w/someone who absolute Won't take personal responsibility ever & yea it sucks#but i'm not like. making that ''wow this sucks a ton'' experience my like Worldview lmfao this isn't now my Personal Policy abt shit#going ''have we considered that anything but deliberately punishing Mental Illness just Enables/Encourages their destructive vibes??'' yes.#''well if everyone just accepted their Personal Responsibility in all ways this & any other matter would be completely resolved forever??''#then by that framework if anyone goes ''well that's not quite it'' you can go ''sounds like someone isn't accepting their Responsibility''#checkmate Individuals...

holy fuck i extremely dislike the replies on that post. wtf wtf wtf "you shouldnt even be on the internet" "go outside and live your childhood" wtfffffff. 1 it is literally very easy to be safe on the internet even at under age 13 2 kids can still be "normal kids" and "go outside" while also having internet access????? 3 why the fuck are you blaming kids for "seeing the horrors of the internet" and not #1 the teaching class of our current society for potentially not teaching internet safety well enough and #2 the structure of the internet being one in which it can be extremely difficult to separate media that is appropriate for all ages from that which is strictly appropriate for adults. like why are we not talking about that and how fucked up it is that the big internet companies would rather make money of views from children than come up with a way to make internet actually safe at all ages. and yeah there are creeps who take advantage of kids over the internet which is not a new problem and is not a problem exclusive to the internet and the best thing we've done to combat that (aside from legal efforts) is teaching kids the ways to prevent themselves from ever being in that position to begin with. i promise you that attempting to force young kids not to be on the internet is a waste of time effort and potentially money if you're talking legal restrictions. ALL OF WHICH WOULD BE BETTER SPENT MAKING THE INTERNET SAFE??? Or at the very least properly teaching kids internet safety again?????
also if anyone reading this has experience with "trauma" (term used loosely, plz don't legitimately trauma dump on me) from being on the internet at a young age that has to do with something other than being targeted by aforementioned creeps PLEASE explain to me what it was. Bc i can't fathom what is really so bad that all these people in comments are "praying" that these kids don't see. Like yeah there is disturbing stuff but you then decide to not look at that website anymore. Yeah you might get bothered by that but like,,, it's not any different than reading a weird book or seeing a weird show? Maybe it sticks with you for years but it isn't like your life or childhood has been completely demolished by that kind of thing. Idk man

The Snark Is Real This Morning
Oh no! Some patriarchal shill just had an Illegal Corset Thought on the Internet!
Maybe they said "corsets weren't invented by the patriarchy" or "comfort was actually often a prime concern for most women's day-to-day corset-wearing, as evidenced by mid-late 19th century advertising" or "women didn't go around fainting constantly because most of them didn't tightlace most of the time."
Maybe they brought up "survivorship bias in extant clothing" or "rampant photo doctoring in the 19th/early 20th century" or "treating satirical cartoons and fashion plates as gospel" or "museums displaying corsets laced entirely closed when wear patterns and primary sources indicate that lacing gaps were more common in many times and places" These concepts are actually conspiracies invented by Big Misogyny to sell more booze to depressed history workers!
Maybe one of them said that she'd worn corsets, or even that she and/or her friends actually found them more comfortable than bras! Clearly she believes this is representative of all women throughout history and in the present day. Besides, she is suffering from Femininity Poisoning and nothing coming out of her silly, weak little brain can be taken seriously. Remember, it is Peak Feminism to dismiss what a woman says because of her gender presentation!
Don't be fooled! All of these statements mean one thing: they are saying that corsets were and are, always and forever, universally feminist and empowering. That no woman in the past ever found them uncomfortable, and that GNC women didn't exist before 1960 and also are icky. Did they actually say that? Doesn't matter! You know what she Really Meant- you've seen P*rates of the Caribbean and Br*dgerton! Corsets were always torture devices meant to oppress women, and any statement contradicting that clearly means the extreme opposite.
So what's a right-thinking and concerned Internet Citizen to do? You have a few options:
See point above re: femininity. Feminine-presenting women are basically brainless, so if a woman talking about dress history Wears An Skirt, you can just write off whatever she says. Easy peasy! Be sure to say something derogatory about her appearance, so others know why they shouldn't take her seriously.
Accuse them of not knowing their history. Any degrees, professional experience, publications, academic accolades, etc. they may have are irrelevant. Their primary sources are...idk photoshopped or something? Best to ignore them altogether. You have Feelings on your side, and that's far more valuable than any research!
Accuse them of accusing you of being a t*rf. Works especially well if they've said anything about the preponderance of t*rfs expressing your True and Correct views- that just means they're calling everyone who thinks like you a transphobe, duh!
Tell them they're not believing women. If they have cited so-called "realities of historical women's lives," well, that's clearly just the rich elite of any given era (who were also brainrotted by Femininity, natch). If you're a woman, and you say corsets were the spawn of Beelzebub, that should be enough ~evidence~ for anyone!
Appeal to common knowledge. Everyone KNOWS corsets were evil; can they really be DEFENDING a KNOWN HATEFUL OPPRESSIVE HELL-GARMENT?! What is the world coming to! If they ask how exactly everyone knows that and where that collective belief comes from, reply with a snarky GIF and block them. There's just no reasoning with some people.
Call them a tradwife. Are they a tradwife? Irrelevant.
With all these tools in your arsenal, you are now well-equipped to fight the horde of vile corset apologists online. Remember: It's Only Real Oppression If The Oppressed Group Is Miserable 24/7!

Hi, as an intersex trans masc person I was just wondering if I could ask/clarify a couple things about your posts about being referred to as "afabs"
This is entirely out of a desire to better understand other perspectives so I'm sorry if its a bother, it isn't intended that way
Is it that you generally dislike being referred to as afab because it references a gender that is not your identity, or is it specifically it being used as a noun that causes the issue?
If it is the noun issue, could I ask if you can elaborate on why?
I was under the impression that afab/amab were useful and accepted ways to refer to someone's physical sex at birth, which is what is relevant in discussion about pregnancy etc. Have I misinterpreted something here?
(I'm also autistic so idk if I've missed some tone issue or sarcasm or implication here, I'm just trying to understand better so I don't offend others)
I hope you're doing well and thanks for your time x
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "PHYSICAL SEX".
And even if there were, right?
Calling me an "AFAB", the implication is meant to be that BECAUSE I was assigned female at birth and had ~female parts~, that means I must have ~female parts~ now, as if these things don't change with time and hormones and surgery, as if because I was erroneously described as female, I am the same physically as I was as an infant, and therefore I share in common everything with anyone else who was also described as female at birth, erroneously or otherwise.
Of course anything to do with being "female" isn't my fucking identity, as a man.
AFAB and AMAB stand for Assigned Female at Birth and Assigned Male at Birth.
Being assigned male or female was an event that happened in the past. I was also a fucking baby at birth. I'm not a baby now, am I? Just because I was an infant then doesn't mean you would prefer to me as an ex-infant or previously an infant. That has 0 bearing on my identity as an adult. It's bizarre to bring it up.
AMAB and AFAB are perfectly useful terms to describe that specific event - the event at birth when you were assigned a sex, incorrect or otherwise.
What relevance or frankly, business, is it of anyone's what sex a ten-year-old was assigned at birth? A twenty-year-old? A forty-year-old? A seventy-year-old?
There are loads of trans people who never went through the wrong puberty, and have had various surgeries. There are plenty of trans people who have been stealth since they were kids, where many of the people around them never had any idea they were trans and/or intersex, and they just went through the puberties they were most comfortable with.
There is no "AFAB" or "AMAB" experience that is universal to everyone based on what sex they were assigned at birth. That is a lie, it is a fiction, and it's not even a convincing once if you actually talk to a variety of other trans and intersex people. Words to the contrary are generally just based in gender essentialist ideology.
What does it have to do with anything, except that some freaks basically still think of assigned sex at birth as what you "really" are, or having a big impact on your current identity in perpetuity?
In a few years, the abilities of surgeons around uterine transplants will have improved. Within twenty years, I expect we'll see more trans women having pregnancies, and in general more people carrying pregnancies after having womb transplants and other organ transplants.
Just say "people who can get pregnant". Just say "people carrying pregnancies" and "pregnant people".
Stop trying to imagine that someone's ~femaleness~ or ~maleness~ is what the crux of the matter is here. Stop trying to project the male and female """"""biological""""" bullshit onto people when it doesn't apply to them.
There is no such thing as universal biological or physical sex under male and female categories, let alone shared experiences based on those categories.
Just eliminate that shit from your mind. It's a fucking cancer.

welsh remus guide pt.1
As a casual marauders fan (if such a thing exists lmao), I’ve noticed a growing love/interest towards Remus being Welsh and exploring what this means regarding accent, mannerisms and language. Seeing Welsh being butchered by the use of google translate, whilst understandable that people would turn to it, is actually physically painful at times. And so!! I’ve decided to start collecting some language tips and bits of info to help anyone who wants to Welshify their Remus. The source? My upbringing as a first language Welsh speaker in South-West Wales.
The most popular head canons I’ve seen, some based on scraps of info from canon, is that Remus is either South Walian (specifically South-East Wales - aka the Cardiff area) or North Walian. I’ve only lived in North Wales for just under a month so I have a rough idea of NW slang but I’m no expert. I have lived in Cardiff for about 3 years so I have a stronger grasp on broad South Walian slang.
This is to say - I will try and give words and bits of info I think would be useful to know but my ask box is always open to more specific questions. I’m also a nerd towards the Welsh language so this is going to be an unnecessarily deep dive into it.
First Lesson
Gogs - North Walians
Hwntws - South Walians
Gogs (short for Gogledd meaning North) and Hwntws have an age old rivalry. Our accents are very different and even our Welsh can have a huge variety of slang and accents.
Examples:
Milk - Llaeth (Hwntw) Llefrith (Gog)
Now - Nawr (H) Rwan (G)
Whilst plenty of Welsh folks have very English sounding accents, if someone has a distinctly Welsh accent you can usually tell pretty quickly where they’re from. Accents within the Welsh language itself tend to be rather strong and distinctive for most people. It is extremely common for someone to ask you where you’re from once they find out you speak Welsh. Probably cause Wales isn’t that big and only like 20% ish of us speak Welsh??? Idk. It just is a thing. So like:
“O, da chi’n siarad Cymraeg?” (Oh, you speak Welsh?)
“Ydw! Wyt ti o’r Gogledd?” (I do! Are you from the North?)
“Yndw, dwi o Gaernarfon. Ble yda chi’n byw?” (I do, I’m from Caernarfon. Where do you live?)
“Fi o Rhydaman.” (I’m from Ammanford.)
Hopefully that dialogue feels human and not like two robots talking but you get the gist of it lmao. So, for those of you who want to make another of the characters, such as Lily, Welsh as well, it wouldn’t be out of place for them to try and establish where the other is from when first meeting. But also be aware that their slang and language would be different if they’re not from the same area (as with any language or country).
Conclusion: You cannot slap the blanket label of Welsh on Remus and then have him speak any old welsh and use any slang and such. So either choose somewhere specific or throw a dart and stick with where it lands.
Note: I am not the collective consciousness of every Welsh person. My experience is not universal - especially when it comes to North Walian things. This is just meant to serve as a general guide. Hope this helps and good luck with your writing!

Rodimus and ADHD
I'm gonna start this out by saying that Rodimus having ADHD is something that's been pretty fundamental to my understanding of the character since I first read MTMTE/Lost Light (seriously, I can point you to the exact panel when I went "oh okay this is Canon to me now") but also that I've almost never seen a portrayal that really vibes with how I interpret it? A lot of the fics and fanon I've come across tend to take a fairly... typical view on and portrayal of ADHD where the things that are focused on are hyperactivity and task/responsibility/boredom avoidance, and to me that's not... it's not the, like, the fundamentals of how I read Rodimus and ADHD? It's not the main issues that affect who he is and how he interacts with the world -- those would instead be the impulsivity and the... idk how to phrase it, the "ADHD trauma"? It's really distinct and I'll get to it later.
The impulsivity is fairly easy to get to, and fairly obvious -- the best representation of how it manifests in Rodimus specifically is in the initial description of the Rodpod, where someone (I can't quite tell who from the panel) says "you know what he's like: he obsesses over something, then gets bored" and then it's revealed that Rodimus presumably commissioned an entire ship built in the shape of his own head. That's really what I see as the main ADHD symptom -- the mix of obsession and impulsivity. We see it when he gets everyone to go on the quest, we see it when he tries to chop off his own arm because he thinks it might stop the future from happening, we see it in his plan to stop the sparkeater -- it's basically how he responds to every problem he's presented with, and often significantly more than that, and that kind of impulsivity is very much a noted feature of ADHD. (Being briefly but intensely obsessed with something before losing interest and dropping it is also a really big ADHD thing -- just look at the cycle of hyperfixations that's so common in fandom).
(Also, when combined with his ego, recklessness, and carelessness, you get basically the entire negative side of his personality out of this, which is why I consider it so fundamental to his character -- significantly more so than, say, task avoidance.) (though recklessness, and carelessness are also fairly common with ADHD -- it's related to impulsivity in general.)
The "ADHD trauma" thing is a little trickier to explain: it's basically how I describe the constant awareness that you have screwed the hell up in the past when it's important and you are going to screw the hell up in the future when it's important and hating the fact that it happens and yet also being completely and fundamentally aware that it's something you can never, ever change about yourself no matter how hard you try (because you have tried, in the past, and it has never worked even a little bit). Like, hello, that basically describes my entire childhood and also the lives of most of my friends who also have ADHD. The panel that convinced me that he does have ADHD is the one that basically explicitly describes this, in Lost Light where he and Drift are talking after they return from the Functionist Universe and Rodimus says "Oh, I know what I'm like. That's the trouble. I know exactly what I'm like -- I just can't stop myself," because, like. that's it. that's the experience in a nutshell.
And like, I'm not saying that this is super severe -- he definitely has more self-confidence than is often warranted, but he also does have a lot of self-esteem issues, and I think this is really the root of them: failing, over and over, until you reach the point where you start thinking that it's bound to happen someday and that everyone will hate you for it forever. That's a super common experience with the kind of disability that ADHD is, especially if you don't know you have it in the first place, and that combined with all the smaller traits (the impulsivity, the hyperfixation, and yes even the task/responsibility/boredom avoidance) is what really convinced me that he is an ADHD character.

hey! alright so i may have done a thing
so for the past,,, idk 3 weeks? ive been going on a deep dive into spelling bee mostly to sedate my own curiosity of needing to know everything about what i'm interested in. as it turns out, there is a LOT of content with this musical, so i'm here to talk about my findings! note: i will be keeping this EXCLUSIVE to the original 2005 off broadway cast. as much as i'm a brown university girlie through and through, the original cast is where the content is. OKAY FIRST: youtube findings
a lot of small videos were made usually with logainne and leaf. you'll be quick to learn that they made the most off stage content. i have a public playlist with these videos, along with interviews, the original boot, and a few other things. the cast album isn't in it because that's audio only and i want visuals damnit. (plus its on spotify and easy to look up so.) the exception is 25apcsbmt12doc because its pretty underground and the purpose is to get word out about niche things.
second: myspace pages a lot of the spellers have myspace pages! this is like. a common thing!! only two were archived (leaf and logainne) and are able to be accessed! i'll talk about the others in a bit. they contain new information and i personally find them very interesting!
leaf logainne
HOWEVER: three are currently able to be accessed through modern myspace without needing an account. the format is off, but it's accessable.
barfee 25apcsb account panch third: other
there's two different things here so i'll separate them :]
3.1: r/v club
r/v club is a short film by rebecca feldman (one of the people that worked on spelling bee) that includes logainne! it can be found on her site with other short films. i believe this is the only one with her in it HOWEVER i have not checked therefore i could be wrong. it's set post-spelling bee, i believe. also jesse is in it but not as leaf.
r/v club
3.2: official site
spelling bee had a site!! and official merch!! its just a cool thing i think. it'll be mentioned again in the last section
spelling bee site
fourth and final: lost media (to my knowledge)
okay, spelling bee has.... QUITE a bit of lost media. again, this will be separated into parts.
4.1: C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E
before spelling bee was a thing, crepuscule (albiet mispronounced) was an improv play made by the farm. (same group who made r/v club) a lot of the characters were similar or the same, and it has a similar premise. however, it wasn't a musical. from what i've heard, there USED to be a boot of it, however i haven't found one of my own. i would love to be corrected.
4.2 myspace pages
remember how i was going to say this was going to come up again? hi thats now. outside of leaf and logainne, other myspace accounts were made! mitch (comfortcounselor), olive (mydictionary) + (oliveostrovsky), chip (chiptolentino), marigold (marigoldconeybear) an olive and barfee joint account (ilovemydictionary), and a leaf and logainne joint account (schwartzylogan). there's also another leaf account with the very confusing name of panchspell the issue with these is that theyre not archived, so you'll need a myspace account with a verified email to view these. in the year of our lord 2024 that's not exactly an easy find, especially since verification emails no longer send. plus, one of olive's accounts is dictionary.com now so,,,, who knows what it looks like there. most also need a connection, which makes things even MORE difficult. i hate how close but out of reach these accounts are.
4.3. spelling bee game
yeah they had a game. it's on the site, and it's eternally stuck at loading characters from my experience. here's the link anyway! game
4.4 the dirty bee
oh jesus its the dirty bee. so for context, in 2006 when the show was running, a few nights were booked for spelling bee that were meant for mature audiences and were 18 plus. it's catered towards people who have already seen the bee and want something new. it was inspired by jay (panch) and putting in words or sentences researsals that were clearly for funnies because he was bored. alas it became a derivative of the musical. all we know is what an article provides (theres more than one but the one linked gives the most info) and that chip quote unquote "finished off" at my unfortunate erection according to jose. there's rumor that chip is canonically bi in it but theres no sources so,,,, can't confirm that one.
article
(the quote is said in the reunion "stars in the house" and is found in the playlist)
conclusion:
there's genuinely so much shit in this musical i find it fascinating. this post WILL be updated with any other finds or information. PLEASE dm me or let me know if i got something wrong or if you have something to add (though do add a source, please and thank you)
ALSO: reblogs are greatly appreciated!! shoutout to the wiki, @/honkmaster69 and the people i spam in dms for helping and tolerating me <33

To be fair to the anon who said they didn't believe in queer community, if you don't drink you're basically unable to participate in the "queer community" in my city. I guess if you're university aged they have a club on campus, but past that there's really nothing for you. Your options are getting smashed and fucking, getting smashed and talking, and getting smashed and hanging out at a place where you can do either of the above and also play pool. Outside of that, all the queer events are for "LGBT youth" aka 25 year olds at the absolute max or younger and are almost aggressively PG rated. I get that they're the focus because queer youth are the most at risk for mental health issues + once you're an adult you're on your own but in terms of fostering community, none of it's very useful. The queer people I'm actually close to are people I met individually and spent time with in non-bar, non-drinking, non-youth oriented spaces. And there's not a designated spot for people who aren't drinking who are queer to meet up or, IDK, businesses we frequent or places we all know are the queer places or something. Apparently there are a few queers who work with city government to make programs for queer people but since it's just more outreach to queer youth/teens/pre-teens that's hardly going to foster a community for those of us "olds" who are over 30. (As I approach 35 I get told sometimes it's predatory of me to be at bars, which is one of those moments where I feel like the US is a failed state even more acutely than I normally do.)
I feel like gushing about the magic of community and longing for it is a very 20 year old experience. When you're young, you mistakenly think that life is going to have anime style groups of people who are there for each other through thick and thin, and then you grow out of thinking that people will be friendly towards you based on having one thing in common and you move on. It's not that it's a fiction, it's that you have to be down to pound back so much alcohol you can't get off the floor tomorrow and be willing to overlook a lot of insults and disgust in order to be a part of it. There's a queer community, sure. There's also the world of sober adulthood, which is an infinitely better world to be a part of for many reasons, namely your liver, your wallet and the fact that no cishet friend of mine has ever gotten annoyed at how I'm "too normie" or "too old" to be queer.

The death of the independent bookstore is indeed a serious issue.

i always see posts responding to the passage of time like, “is it me or was February a year long?” or “why was October like a day long this year?”
i never relate to the former and always relate to the latter. i always perceive time as moving far too quickly, regardless of what’s happening in my life. even a week i spent in the hospital zipped by.
i’m curious which is the more common perception of time bc i’m sure my experience is not universal lol
pls reblog for exposure! also, i just noticed the typo but it is what it is 😭😭

Tumblr media
no offense to this op and i'm making a separate post because maybe this is a My Experiences Are Not Universal thing but i actually. don't think jk rowling being extremely transphobic is a tumblr specific or even distinctly online thing to know about? like, my parents who are in their mid-50s bring up jk rowling's bullshit by their own volition and they even both know of the term "terf" without me having taught it to them. and thus i struggle to believe that this is not, at this point, common knowledge. idk.

Idk why you get so much pushback for saying that D&D has a fundamentally limited scope with the assumptions of its design - that was a common talking point back in the oughties when WotC kept trying to push the d20 system as universal and most everyone saw it as ridiculous - look at Call of Cthulhu d20 and Aberrant d20 for examples! Or, somehow worse, Monte Cook's World of Darkness.
I will say I don't think that the d20 system is limited to just dungeon crawling - but only because the system predates WotC's D&D 3e, but only barely, with stuff like the Star Wars (psuedo) d20 system, which was their prototype.
Oh for sure, the d20 System itself isn't fundamentally limited to dungeon-crawling, but D&D 5e specifically has decided to strip bare the system out of everything besides dungeon gameplay support! And this is actually good in my own opinion: D&D has always been best as a dungeon game. D&D 5e as a ruleset is very focused towards dungeon-crawling, but sort of a very "new school" dungeon crawl where even movement within the dungeon is with the goal of finding cool new fights to engage with.
It's good that you mentioned D&D 3e because I consider 3e a valuable experiment in turning D&D into a fully systemic everything game. It was ultimately not a fully successful experiment in my opinion, because most of the rules support was still towards dungeon-crawling, and even as an everything system where you could theoretically build your character towards, say, engaging with the game's social system, it was still at its core a game that incentivised combat and rewarded player characters with increasing combat prowess regardless of how you engaged with the game.
In other words, D&D 3e was a game that tried to be an everything game even though it was still at its core overwhelmingly a dungeon combat game: it was a valuable experiment, but there is a good reason why lots of those ancillary subsystems were stripped out in later editions. 5e is a system that is singularly focused on dungeon crawls and combat, and has a very loose generic framework for every other activity. This is what makes 5e ultimately a dungeon game to me, even though the system itself could have mechanics built for other things on top of it.
So, like, I don't disagree with you, just wanted to be more specific about what I mean. :)

Thank you for answering my question! Most people who were saying that about dog breeds approached it from the way of "breeds are just what humans call dogs so they don't matter to your experience much so you're just a dog" which kinda just gave off an impression that I can only be a dog without any kind specification. As I said, the wider species isn't something I feel much of an identification as. Other dogs of other kinds are more like paratypes with a dose of "other dog" in a way.
That's........ a wild thing to say, why would anyone think that. How could being this
Tumblr media
possibly NOT give you a pretty wildly different experience than being this?
Tumblr media
honestly maybe it's just that I'm sick and thus cranky but that sounds like the people who think that all dog breeds are really the same on the inside and don't understand why someone who lives in a studio apartment with no ability to go out on long runs and otherwise give their dog a job to do or at least a ton of exercises owning a border collie is a bad idea.
Even within dog breeds of similar sizes and builds, breeds are typically bred with a job in mind, and their in-built instincts and behaviors are thus going to be pretty wildly different because of that. Suggesting that the internal experience, instincts, etc. of, idk, an Australian shepherd and a labrador must be ~basically the same~ is - bluntly, tell me you don't know anything about dogs without telling me. Breeds are so much more than """what humans call dogs""". If we didn't have hard evidence they're so closely related and were going strictly off morphology there's no world in which a chihuahua and an irish wolfhound would be considered the same species. Yes, there are similarities and commonalities in behavior between dog breeds that are basically universal to Dog. No, that does not mean they're the same thing! You cannot treat a husky like a chihuahua and expect good results! There's commonalities that are basically universal between primates too, does that mean that the human experience is the same as the macaque one? No!
*deep breath* okay I'm normal about this. sorry. as said, I'm sick and my filter is a bit wonky and I'm mad about both people being stupid about your experiences and people not giving their dogs adequate care because they think personality differences between dog breeds is a myth or something. the people saying these things to you are being very stupid and I'm sorry you've had to deal with them.

I think about Cecil and Carlos a lot. queer people existing (relatively) peacefully and fully accepted by their community. that episode when Cecil sees an alternative universe where his family is homophobic really stucked with me. just... hit a cord somewhere within me, that Destiny, despite its common portarayal of queer relationships never did. i suppose that Destiny was always a power fantasy to me, both as a human and a queer person. but wtnv is just a story about regular people (even if they are immortal. or not really people at all). so to see just reagular people experience this... my own family never accepted me as a queer person. it probably never will or at least not soon. and... I don't know. but there are people in this world who live the life that Cecil does. now i'm in that reality he saw when worlds colided but. maybe one day I will be where he is
or idk i don't know why i'm posting this instead of keeping it in my drafts forever

What was your salvia experience like?
Interesting. Drug talk under the cut.
I wouldn't recommend salvia w/o like, considering if it is Right For You, because I know a number of people who've had absolutely abysmal times with it, even when done in good conditions. That said, I personally really enjoyed it and never had a bad experience with it the ~10 times I did it (usually a few trips per night). I stopped doing it for the same "hmm, I feel like my beliefs are getting disconnected from reality and I don't want to continue that" reason I stopped doing other drugs.
I'm going to paste some shit that i wrote after the first time i did salvia, because i think it's really funny how unhelpful it is, and then I'll try and explain those more. This was written October 2021 after a night of taking hits of 5x concentrated salvia, and as you'll be able to tell i was fully in the swing of Narrative Bullshit:
---
I'm not a fan of smoking any drug but. salvia smoke is hot and sucks. [AN: would highly recommend a bubbler of medium size to cool down the smoke.]
It's not a particularly euphoric high, so it definitely feels like it could be bad if you have bad trips. I think the easy way to think of it is, it's basically whippits but for ur brain instead of ur body. [AN: e.g, disassociative feelings]
The body high is a heavy feeling--you could move your body if you had to, but why would you? wouldn't it be better to drift away? It's pretty easy to trip kill by moving a bit. Touch, motion keeps you grounded, so if you want to come down you just wiggle your fingers, touch the world around you. if you want to get high you get comfy and relax. It feels pretty controllable, like I've pulled the ripcord a few times when I wanted the feelings to chill out a bit, which is pretty nice (compared to like acid you can't "get normal" at will, and why I don't think lighter doses would particularly need/benefit from tripsitting. Bear in mind that this may not be a universal experience idk)
[AN: Borderline effects: hands shaking, colors look flat, a strong urge to sit down and close your eyes. When I tried taking a dose and then keeping my eyes open, I just felt kinda weird and uncomfortable for a minute.]
[AN: with eyes closed:] Geometry folds in on itself and a strong feeling of being pulled sideways or backwards, wheeling around, or your body sorta smearing away from you.
Alright. we gotta talk about the clowns. Clowns and other circus performers do make an appearance, as advertised, but classy clowns, not scary ones. I think that's why people in trip reports call them jesters, but it's definitely a circus vibe imo. I don't really know why but like. it feels deeply correct that this is the clown drug. I know that sounds fucking stupid.
The feeling is very much about performing and interstitial states, and verbs being the base thing of existence (like. Normally you can have man, and you can have a man running. But what if instead, you could have "running" and "a man running" but not really "a man" without a verb) That's why clowns are so good because they highlight that existence is performance that "to be" is a verb with many layers. To be a clown (noun) is indistinguishable from clownery (verb).
If don't particularly approve of the gender politics of salvia.
Very common to feel like "oh I need to tell xyz" but multiple layers of people who need to be told things. (I need to tell yall about telling the narrator about telling the wind about the eternal farmers I saw, spinning their merry way around the field of the universe).
Sensory experiences feeling fresh and new. The comedown is full of feeling sensory things and thinking "I was maybe put on earth to think about touching carpet, this is what I am for, born anew as I am now, to explore the carpet and to tell myself about the experience of touching the carpet. And to tell myself a story about how I was put on earth to touch carpet."
Acid music isn't as good, it just feels so complicated that my brain tuned it out. I think simple music that carries you along narratively is what you want--soundtrack music and stuff.
Obviously like. These are impossible to separate from what I expect of salvia and who I am as a person so take with a heavy grain of salt. Narrativizing myself is a very me thing, clowns is something I read online to expect.
---
So yeah. I think the biggest effect was feeling "lost" from myself and getting totally engrossed in what felt like many layers of a story. As an example like, I see a book unfolding and the pages start telling me a story of a fisherwoman on a lake, and she gazes into the lake and sees a delinquent teen smoking on a park bench, and the teen dreams of a giant switchboard that's alive. and the giant switchboard feels something grand and incredible and it [me] wants to hold onto it. we need to tell this to our husband when we get home from fishing--no wait, our friends at high school--no wait, who are we again??
It is definitely less euphoric than a serotonin psychedelic. As a baseline I'm uncontrollably euphoric on acid, and the pervading emotion of salvia for me was a kind of beautiful, contemplative melancholy. the dark souls of drugs, thematically. I would expect that if you're baseline less-of-a-happy-camper on other psychedelics then salvia might just be extremely unpleasant without the beauty or contemplation feelings.
Physically, it was a mix between stunningly pleasant and strikingly uncomfortable. The feeling of 'getting pulled apart' or 'reality flipping inside out' can be extremely weird and off-putting OR kinda exhilarating, but I liked the heavy relaxed feeling a lot.
The visuals salvia were really interesting to me. They're less detailed and pattern-y than a classical psychedelic (less whirling patterns and fractals) and more dreamlike. A lot of soaring over a landscape, or drastic changes of scale. It felt like I could control them the same way you might be able to lucid dream, by making 'suggestions' that my brain could run with. "We're zooming down endless green hills [conscious thought: but what's that? a castle on the horizon?!] we zoom into the castle, across it's countless parapets and towers, and into..."
(I'm happy to expand on anything or answer further questions, etc.)
---
as a final part i will paste excerpts from things i have written about salvia experiences, shortly after having them:
I met the embodiment of capitalism it was offices and piers and shipping containers that formed into a face on a throne. the ground dropped away from me and I started falling/being drawn toward the face. my body was spinning but my sight was unchanging and locked on the shifting face. and I started to get pulled apart and turned into components but then my headphones said "low battery" so I lost the vision.
Then I saw like a really cool anime opening for a mech anime where mech was being assembled in orbit. pieces snapped together like magnets and hovered a few mm apart like superconducting magnets levitating. it was cool
hilbert curve dandelions. also i owned a haunted fungal mansion in the dandelion dimension but I couldn't find it. too many dandelions.
I was the primordial sports ball. like if u imagine every sentence you could write about sports it is essentially the same. the goalie blocks the shot. the hockey player slaps the puck. the archer looses the arrow. they're all subcases of the primordial sentence "the [sportsman] [triumphs upon] [the sportsball]" (we must accept that salvia as it exists in my head is a very jungian-by-way-of-jordan-peterson drug and move on. im working on it dw). U might think that it is impossible to be the sportsball but think of sentences like "the safety tackles the running back". sometimes you can slide into being the sportsobject even if you are a person. and that's what I did. i one-electron-theoried the entire narrative space of sportsball.

Obey Me! Language Barrier Headcanon
After several days of overthinking and avoiding adult responsibilities, I think I've dreamed up a headcannon for how MC can speak to demons and angels right out of the gate! The Devildom and Celestial Realm use high-range magic to break language barriers - which is incredibly powerful (yet still glitchy) at times.
How does it work? Within the boundaries of the realms, you hear others speak your chosen/preferred language, and written language is re-transcribed before your eyes. Very useful, right??
Of course, there are... problems. Language is a product of our time, culture, and experiences in the human world, making direct translations sometimes hard or impossible to understand. Add entire different realms to the situation makes translating from human -> devilish, human -> celestial, and everything in-between an even bigger problem. It gets in the way of studying, and even everyday life in the Devildom, and can lead to some... interesting conversational blunders.
On a side note... I imagine that eventually, languages in the Devildom and Celestial Realm merged over time into a "universal" language that covers most of each of the realms. While there are still regional dialects and speakers of nearly-forgotten languages, it would be most helpful for our long-lifetime-having-peeps to institutionalize a "Common Devilish" and "Common Celestial" language for government and public services. Still, implementing "Language Barrier Magic" ensures everyone's needs are met, especially in crisis situations.
Why I love this headcanon:
#1 Imagine how cute it would be for the OM! characters to hear MC speak in their own native language!!!!! Solomon would definitely give MC the ability to experience what it's like without the support of Language Barrier Magic, letting them hear the brothers speak Devilish and letting the brothers hear MC speak their own. I like to think that Devilish and Celestial both sound SUPER inhuman yet easily distinguishable. If MC tries to mimic their speech, they're just like, "aww baby is trying 🥹💕"
#2 The magic might wear off in remote areas (like losing your phone's signal, lol). I imagine that our DDD's device/signal has something to do with the magic's ability to cover the Devildom. Imagine going on a hike with the brothers out in a Devildom nature reserve when suddenly no one has a signal, and Levi whines:

... and MC is just like
Tumblr media
#2 I think this is incredibly fun/messy for multilingual MCs. I tried to study many different languages in middle school (don't ask, idk), and now I permanently think in multiple languages and sometimes interchange languages when talking with my partner. My MC would be testing the fucking limits of the language barrier magic for sure. Also, I can see Multilingual!MC associating different languages with different people and shifting languages sporadically, resulting in a very confused MC.
MC's brain listening to the seven brothers fighting, but the language keeps changing every 3 seconds:
Tumblr media
#3 The Language Barrier Magic was never meant to handle humans and their many, many languages!! As I mentioned previously, the Devildom and Celestial Realm likely have their own common/universal language. But humans have so many! And they're so different!! Before MC arrived, I imagine that someone (hopefully) had the forethought to make sure their language was uploaded to the Language Barrier's "database", but it still has trouble predicting slang and expressions.
MC: You're the bee's knees, Mams.
Mammon: ...wHAT the FUCK?? (after hearing MC utter: "you are the honey-producing anthophila's tibiofemoral joint."
#4 Imagine if Diavolo/Barbs/Lucifer forgot to calibrate MC to the Language Barrier Magic, or set it to the wrong language! Or if they remembered to set their spoken language but not their written language, so on the first day of class, MC looks at their textbook like, "well shit".
When my MC arrived in the Devildom, they thought they had arrived at a university in Japan (Barbs scammed Sage into the Devildom Exchange Program and will NEVER let them live it down), so they spoke Japanese at the beginning. Since everyone replied back in Japanese, Sage really thought that was just how the Devildom was. MONTHS into the program, Sage learned from Solomon about the language magic and proceeded to hunt down Lucifer shouting, "I could have been speaking English this WHOLE TIME?" Afterwards, everyone noted that Sage spoke faster and more comfortably ever since. It's now a long-running joke in the House of Lamentation.
Levi: LOL remember when Sage thought we all just spoke Japanese in the Devildom. What a noob move, LOL!
Sage: Hey, Levi. Remember when you tried to tell me the manga you were reading during class was a "slice of life" but I could CLEARLY read from the cover that it was [expletive title here]?
Lucifer: When he WHAT-
Anyways, thank you for listening to my Ted Talk, and now I want to hear about everyone's MC and what language shenanigans they would be up to, please and thank you. 💛💛
