What is it about Sirius that makes this fandom think that 'tough love' is the one thing he needs that only Remus can and will give him?

That either posits that sirius is spoilt and has never been told no, or told off for anything - which we know to be untrue, bc abusive family.

Or that the abuse Sirius faces at home is correct and warranted.

Sirius is sad for having failed at something that his friend has succeeded in? Better tell him that his feelings don't matter and that he brings everyone down with his attitude. Sirius feels guilty about the violence by death eaters they see in the papers? Better tell him that his feelings help nobody and that he needs to get over himself bc he's really not that important.

This is always handled like it's something revolutionary which only Remus can offer him. 'call Sirius on his bullshit' 'give him tough love' or whatever you want to call it, is handled as something that sirius specifically needs in order to function in this world. (what Remus gets in return you ask? Money and the unwavering quests of Sirius to show Remus love and how to accept it)

And I don't love that for their relationship or for Sirius as a surviver from an abusive home. The solution to him having feelings shouldn't have to be that someone yells at him until he has no choice but to self regulate under the threat that he'll lose his safety net of friendships otherwise

anyway.. rinnie ko bas ek din ghar pe invite karna hai for a sleepover to see his face when he realizes ki woh tumhare saath same room mein nahi sone wala h 😭 and then he gets so pouty and you have to be like "sorry rinnie :P just my family...... they're a little...." so he's like ok (sad) and woh guest room mein sota h but then he gets a text from you at like 1 in the morning which says "be quiet when you come in <3" and he's already getting out of the bed in seconds ??????? ugh this man. and bonus when tumhare bhai/behen ghar mein rehte h because he's extra scared of getting caught 😭😭😭😭 and then after cuddling all night you have to quite literally push him out of your room at 4 AM bc he gets so clingy and won't let you go (how are u gonna escape from those strong ass arms ???) and you're whisper-yelling at him in the dark like "rin! go back to your room i swear to god—" kyuki mummy 5 baje hi uthti hai ... ☠️ bechara rin </3

rin's hold on you is firm, it's hard enough to keep your voice low and close to a whisper-yell, it's even more difficult to wrestle yourself free from the embrace of his strong arms when he's very obviously determined to not let go.

“quit whining, you're the one who asked me to come.”

“yeah, like an hour ago. my mom will be up by 5! you and i are dead if she sees you leave my room at this hour.” you try to reason, hands going to push away at his forearms to allow space between you both, but to no avail. if anything, he just holds you even tighter.

“sounds like a you problem. first you ask me for a sleepover, and then i find we're not even gonna sleep in the same room. then i get a text asking me to come over to your room, and now you want me leave again? not happening.”

“bro,” you deadpan, “you're lucky my parents even agreed to let you sleep over! I'll make up for it later, but please go back to your room!”

you can't help but snicker as the events of earlier come playing in your mind— the look of pure horror on rin's pretty face as he learns he's not going to be spending the night with you, but in the guest room instead. the way he was shrinking in his seat as your siblings give him the side-eye everytime they'd catch him staring at you. god, he looked adorable pouting when you slapped his hand away from your own, in front of your parents.

but now when you feel him inch closer, burying his face in your shoulders as the warmth of your bodies cover you like a second blanket— you know you've already lost. you don't really want him to leave either, and there's a tremble in your voice that's enough to tell rin that your resistance isn't as legitimate as you're hoping for it to be.

“i don't care. your parents already love me. I'll win them over, now shut up and let me sleep.”

the hushed sweetness to his voice betrays his words, he's only threading his fingers through your hair in what you assume is an attempt to lull you to sleep. you take a mental note to not underestimate itoshi rin's ability to charm you with his words past 3 am— he's uncharacteristically clingy, being all soft and delicate, tentative and loving— the way only you know rin to be.

“my sister's in the other room, she definitely knows you're here.”

“that means we're already done for, might as well let it be.”

“god, you are insufferable.” you say, (begrudgingly) settling into his chest.

you can only imagine a satisfied smirk on his face when he breathes— the rise and fall of his chest slowing falling in sync with yours— and you feel it resonate with your own.

yeah, you don't really want him to leave.

Anthony has ligyrophobia, a fear of loud noises, thanks to the Tremaine household. The reason is twofold, and the combination is why he has it and nobody else in the family does.

Firstly, to him cold, harsh words are an expression of love because it’s the tone his grandmother uses most of the time, and it’s the one his aunt uses whenever she’s not losing her voice screeching at anything and everything or trying to make men chase her (unsuccessfully). His mom’s… complicated. In the rare moments she gets out of her head enough to acknowledge his existence, she’s either blank bordering on being an okay mother or screaming like she’ll die if she doesn’t cause at least one new person tinnitus. So when they’re yelling at him, he’s done something wrong to cause them to stop showing him love. In my headcanon, Anthony’s the kid that got the most pressure put on them because, as a man, he cannot marry up in society (traditionally). Therefore, he needs to act more like a lord to compensate, which to Lady Tremaine translates to “be perfect or be worthless”. This leads to a whole slew of mental issues, most prominently crippling perfectionism and anxiety to panic attacks at the idea of being even slightly below flawlessly perfect. When grandmother’s yelling, he hasn’t been perfect, and the idea of not being perfect triggers all the issues caused by always being pressured to be perfect.

Secondly, (you’ll have to stick with me for a bit here I promise it ties back to yelling) it’s my headcanon that the Tremaines only wanted daughters so they could live the lives they’d wanted vicariously through the kids. Anthony is… not a girl. So by default he’s treated worse because his family didn’t actually want him. Aside from that, given their time period I’m betting they have some old-fashioned views about violence, used in a matriarchal way. Physical pain can be used to discipline children, and Anthony is the child who always does wrong no matter how right he did, so he’s the one at the receiving end of it most of the time. He receives truly cruel punishments for so many things without ever being told beforehand that his wrongdoing wasn’t allowed that he’s learned to just accept he’s always doing wrong in some way. After some time in Auradon he realizes the matriarchs were just looking for a reason to punish him to feel in control, and hurting the kids they were projecting on would hit a bit too close to home given their fate. The thing about it is that, whenever he was about to be dragged to his punishment, whoever would hand out the disciplinary action would raise their voice. Whether it’s one of the truly rotten cousins or sisters using the fact they can get away with it to hit him or his grandmother locking him in a closet that doesn’t have enough room for him to turn around for hours to days on end, it’s always preceded by a raise in their volume. So Anthony has started associating raising voices with extreme punishments. So if a sound gets louder suddenly, it has the same effect.

These two things combine to give Anthony Ligyrophobia, and he needs a hug

It's dangerous going into the Gale tag. Like most of the time it's fairly innocuous, but sometimes you will get people who are ranting about all the reasons they hate him and it. Sucks. Mostly because it's about people knocking on his behaviors that are highly relatable in terms of neurodivergence (from everything from his actual canonical suicidal ideations to his tendency to be a bit of an infodumper).

Like sorry. I relate too hard to this man for exactly all the reasons you find him to be annoying. Sorry.

first of all, thank you so much for reading! i posted for the first time at the end of november, then again middle of december-ish and have posting somewhat consistently since then! so a little over a month. it was my first time ever posting on tumblr so i still have no idea how it works if i'm being honest LOL. but my writing has received a lot of love which i am so so grateful for. it gives me something to look forward to and hearing from u guys literally makes my day. i'm incredibly honored that even a few people like my stuff so much.
