to me, wriolette is the scene from fleabag where she says “i love you” to the priest and he (also in love with her) just says “it’ll pass,” and also on that note clorinde and wriothesley’s friendship is the scene from fleabag where she’s like “i met someone” and her friend is like “wow that’s so great, what does he do?” and she says “he’s a priest” and her friend drops her head into her hands and fleabag looks directly into the camera with a smile :)

it's been pointed out on here before that a lot of terf arguments are actually rooted in sexist idealology that feminists fought and died to unnormalise decades ago and that's its own kettle of fish but one thing i also find very frustrating about this so called 'radical' feminism is that it's so... defeatist? like the moment you categorically label an entire section of society as Bad and Inherently Evil then there's also the implication that nothing can be done about it, and it completely takes all accountability away. saying all men are evil is just another way of saying boys will be boys. he raped her because he's a man. he hit her because he's a man. he didn't listen because he's a man - it's almost offensively oversimplified. there's no point trying to fix this issue in society because men are just Like That, okay! so now what? it's not like they're going anywhere, so you just accept that 50% of the population are evil and will forever treat you terribly and there's nothing to be done about it bc they're biologically predisposed to it? like is that fr the argument here? you're soooo radical for that

It's always so intriguing to watch Foolish from another perspective during lore, because it usually really is just guesswork to his thoughts and motives. Even during the moments he's being entirely honest, he can be hard to pin down.
Watching Foolish there's no question as to how much he knows, or how much he cares. It's always more than you think. You get to watch him choose to play a happy go lucky idiot, and then join in the act in chat. Watching him break down that act today was fun.
First with Fit, his joyful positive attitude starting to crack after looking through Leo's photos. His moment to gather himself before talking, his trailing off and voice cracks when asked if he's okay, only to change the subject immediately.
Then with Bad, talking about their months on the island and just what trust means. Considering how to weed out a federation puppet, going over theories with each other after just having told one another that the best way to find the rat is to give theories out one at a time to find the leak.
I’ll have to watch Fit's perspective of today later, but I know with Bad, the mood change was obvious - and yet somehow, he managed to get away with much more than he let on.
Still, it’s obvious he’s starting to crack, with Leo being gone, with Bad clearly deteriorating - you can’t pretend to be happy and carefree for forever, when the stress is this high.

tbh I think from software games can be fun but there's a lot of missed opportunity from both taking what lore says way too literally, and insisting that, because there are some mistranslation, english lore can't be trusted in comparison to japanese. Despite the fact that the studio prioritizes the game being experienced in English first. Voice cast all English and all. As if they possibly care about English writing and nuances in it.
I don't doubt they were written in Japanese first, but to claim that when the text clash, English is completely wrong and must be disregarded is wild. I feel that's purposefully ignoring how different languages frame different thing differently as a built-in feature. And sometimes, just maybe, From probably proofreads their translation, gives feedback, and maybe something is purposefully kept vague or meant to be double-meaning in English rather than the untrustworthy butchery of its orginial prose. Like that might be a feature, not a bug.
But yeah, on the other hand, I doubt anyone in these games, especially item descriptions, outright lie to you. If that's the case, the game lets you know they're a liar, like patches. I found that lore is told thru unreliable narrator who twists the truth or is biased than anything. For example, there's literally 0 evidence to suggest Ranni is just a pissy little princess who's unsatisfied with her meager status and must become a god, and she actually lies about caring about Iji and Blaidd. When almost every other thing suggest that she does care, but also aware that they're significant players who would help her achieve her near-impossible goal of toppling a god and an empire. Which means they risk their life for her, and that's something she must accept in order to rebuild a new world. (Regardless of wanting to build a better world or wanting to break free of GW that strips away her autonomy more than anything)
For another example of unreliable narrator or context-heavy stuff, elden ring's use of the words hero or outer god is specifically framed by the game's historical context. As in hero are often used within context of skilled warriors who participate in a battle where glory can be claimed, but glory-seeking are also treated as not necessarily a good thing such as margit piling corpses of 'heroes' in leyndell defense. Quite literally telling you heroes are the people who invade and attempt to lay siege to a city. And the only war, iirc, that heroism isn't mentioned at all is the ones between Leyndell and Volcano Manor where it's more or less viewed as the worst wars, with no glory to be found.
In addition, horrific damage of war is often the direct result of heroism within elden ring more than anything else, such as Altus being completely full of craters and ruins despute being one of the safer places, or Caelid being a direct result of a clash between Malenia and Radahn who's called heroic by his own people. Wars literally cannot be one sided, or it would not be called war. Despite how many people try to pin everything on Malenia and claim that Radahn, guy with conqueror in his title and wearing regalia that glorifies Godfrey's violent conquest as much as possible, is always the nicest, most beloved by every side during the wars he wage, and a completely innocent person who does nothing but being heroic by saving the whole world from the endless space threats that literally don't emerge after he's dead. Seriously, don't do my man like he's a non-character written by 12 years old like that.
So, no, I don't think we're dealing with a definition of the word hero by current time's standard, and it matches up to more ancient, or often nationalistic interpretation of the word hero. (As in our modern world's definition of hero generally resembles someone more like the german doctor who helps jews escape during WWII, vs during his time and within his own army, Genghis Khan is a great guy despite literally murdering and raping across the continent, for example.)
And outer god isn't necessarily mean bad god inferior to elden beast either. When golden order and its culture of conquest and genocides quite literally doom these lands to shit. Like there's no direct evidence that the dark moon or other heretical gods like formless mother (also mother of truth, curiously) are, by their natural manifestation, worse than elden beast when all of them are seemingly amoral to a degree. In which, the actions of their followers define how their influence shape the land as much as their natural domains of power. To me, considering that the Golden Order is pretty active in their surveillance, propaganda, and execution of dissidents or even its own people, them using language to twist the truth very much lines up with the behavior of casting other Gods as Outer and blasphemous.
Another good example would be people who insist Yharnam beasts must be experimented on or purged similar to Ludwig who's convinced that church hunters should be honorable spartans vs Djura saying beasts are people, in which harming them out of the principle of purging beast=good will literally have him shoot you with a gatling gun. Like you get the complete image only if you consider that both people have their own agenda, and it affects how they view the truth. And sometimes it's especially telling when the guy who thinks himself/was revered a hero is a literal, screaming monster in-pain bathing in pools of blood and corpses of his victims, while the other guy is seemingly just a bit insane and living in a burnt dump, but gets to keep his humanity.

Assuming that the whole 'mahiru is the vessel needed to bring back the count and the 9th servamp will be the servamp of vainglory' theory will be correct, it's interesting how both mahiru and touma can be accused of this sin even if the way it applies to them is opposed.
What touma wants is to be acknowledged and to that end he was willing to become the villain who destroyed the world before mahiru and tsurugi managed to change his mind:
Mahiru's way of being vainglorious seems a lot more positive at first because he wants to be a hero who saves others, but it's self-destructive and encourages laziness in others:
But thankfully we see mahiru starting to let go of the need to make other people proud of him and to prioritize making himself proud in his conversation with tsurugi:
and later when mahiru has a meltdown because he fears his uncle might be dead and suggests sacrificing his life to save the world kuro rightfully yells at mahiru for acting hypocritical and not listening to his own advice:
(I want to mention here that I really love how horrified kuro looks as he realizes that mahiru's reckless hero behaviour comes from a very self-destructing place:
because not a lot of manga I know really acknowledge that maybe the way a lot of their protagonists try to be heroic is actually pretty unhealthy and shouldn't be encouraged? Like Sigurd pointed out at the C3 meeting, it's kind of shameful that the children have to save the day)
Which is why I love that mahiru decided to trust kuro to handle tsubaki without him going with him:
He decides to stay back with everyone else, showing that he has learned that he doesn't need to be the one to do everything and can stay back with the others to buy kuro time.
Interestingly we see touma doing something similar. Opposed to his old need to have the whole world acknowledge him he now wishes for everyone to believe he's dead and he's helping to protect the city by creating a huge barrier without making it known that's he the one doing this:
He's helping the protagonists seemingly with no intention of earning acknowledgement for it.
I think in a way it could be cool of servamp to subvert the shouned trope that for the finale battle the only one able to defeat the big bad is the protagonist while everyone else just watches on from the sidelines, not allowed to do anything because this is the protagonist's moment of glory.
What if lily's plan when he put kuro in mahiru's path was that if kuro tried to stop tsubaki at the gate surely his eve would need to be there with him, right? Because of course he needs his eve to fight and then there's also the distance limit. So why not make the vessel you need at that gate for the ritual to work kuro's eve? Then the vessel would be at the place where you need them without you even needing to do something because naturally they would be thinking they are doing the right thing by going with kuro to fight tsubaki together. And surely someone as vainglorious as mahiru would never pass up the opportunity to be the hero who stops tsubaki. It's foolproof!
Unless of course before the ritual the vessel learned to let go of their vainglorious nature, accepted that it's okay to take a step into the background and trust in others. And additionally also found a way to break through the whole forced proximity thing that the servamp and eves had going on.
I don't know, I feel like it would be a neat bow on mahiru's character arc and a unique way to thawrt the antagonists' plans if the creation of the servamp of vainglory failed because the 'it has to be me' guy they wanted to use as the vessel decided against glory and stayed back to let his partner handle things with tsubaki alone because he trusts him. Kuro on the other hand wants to make up for his past regrets and resolve the conflict through communication this time. Learning to trust in himself again by managing to talk tsubaki out of going through with the ritual on his own would be a logical conclusion to kuro's arc.

it's easy to read the situation between li tongguang, ruyi, and yuanzhou as a love triangle on a superficial level, but looking even one step further, it's clear that there's no triangle about it. li tongguang is obsessed with ren xin; ning yuanzhou is devoted to ren ruyi. ltg's obsession is fervent and all consuming, but it's not devotion. like ruyi herself notes, his feelings to her are on the basis of her as a mother figure in his life, as a replacement for what he never received from his mother. is there an element of romantic/sexual love/desire to it? maybe. more likely he's deluded himself into thinking that, because the truth is, it's doubtful that ltg even understands what love is (platonic, filial, familial, romantic, all of the above, etc), because he has no basis for understanding. ruyi's teachings and actions towards him are the closest thing he has to hold up as an example. what he wants is ren xin, is a replica of the master he had. he doesn't want ruyi, because he doesn't actually care about ruyi. therefore, he doesn't care if she's sad, angry, mad; he just can't bear her 'abandoning' him. we saw this way back when she first meet and left him, both at thirteen and seventeen. although he distrusts her first, she saves his life and cares for him in the way no one else has, hence her first being raised on a platform in his mind. when she leaves for good, ending their master-disciple relationship/training, even though it's for official business and she's not abandoning him, in his mind that's exactly what it is. so now that she's in his life again, he won't let her leave again. he was powerless before, a child with no proper name, but now he's a recognized member of the imperial family, a man who can meet her as 'equals' (even when that's far from the truth). as a child, he could only cling to her legs and beg her, but now he has the power to keep her by his side. it's telling that when he finally gets confirmation of her identity, it's not ning yuanzhou he seeks to harm (even though he detests him and their relationship), but yang ying. yang ying is ruyi's new disciple, and as ltg doesn't know she's a woman, he only sees her as his direct replacement.
ning yuanzhou, on the other hand, is devoted to ruyi. he wants to build a new life and future with her, instead of slotting her into a spot in the life he already has. he's someone who accompanies her on walks and makes her midnight snacks, who holds her when she needs to be held and lets her go when she needs to do things on her own. when she speaks her mind, he listens, even when it makes him discontent/it's not what he wanted/wants to hear. he sees her unabashedly as his equal, and though he acknowledges her skills and abilities, or points out her naivety, he never does it to belittle her; to him, she is his peer, deserving of the highest honor and respect. he trusts her to have his back, and she has come to trust him to have her. he did what she might have thought no man would ever do: he proved himself reliable, so she came to rely on him. yuanzhou gives her freedom and autonomy as both ren ruyi and ren xin. of course they run into problems, but they both learn and grow from them, as individuals and as a couple. yuanzhou's belief in her is unwavering, but adaptable, whereas ltg's is unwavering, but frozen in time, disallowing for any new information to be presented. yuanzhou works with ruyi to accept the changes thrown her way; he seeks the core behind her actions in order to better understand her. li tongguang cannot accept the changes in ruyi's character, because they run contrary to the master he has on a pedestal in his mind.
what li tongguang wants is to return to the past, but yuanzhou offers ruyi the promise of a future, even one that might never come to fruition. there's no triangle about it.

Underrated adorable thing Kyouka does is when someone gives her something to do and/or tries to show her something new and she gives it her full, serious attention.
It could be a matter of life-or-death. It could be delivering an important document. It could be taking care of a cat. It could be mixing a little candy. Doesn't matter.
Someone: *showing Kyouka a thing*
Kyouka: *staring intently, laser-fucking-focused*
What makes this so good to me is that it's nothing to do with her mafia training - she tends to go numb and distant when her assassin instincts kick in. When she focuses like this, it's driven by her genuine want to learn how to do the thing and do it perfectly. And yeah, part of this is also likely to do with her want to prove that she can do good things, but there are a million different ways she could go about this and she chooses... to watch people. To listen and learn and try her hardest at every single little thing she does. Honestly, I don't think this is anything she picked up from anyone - I think she's just like that. She gives everything she does her full attention.
And yeah, sometimes she gets a little too into it (tasing the guy she was supposed to deliver the files to, making a gigantic tower of god grub...) but she's got the spirit.
You guys she's so cute. She's SO cute. And also I think so incredibly strong for this. I don't think Kyouka fully realizes how much of her recovery is due her own consistent dogged efforts. Atsushi and the Agency gave her an opportunity and a safe home base and she took it and ran with it through her own conviction (in spite of all the setbacks), making herself brighter in the process.
