⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ 15 tips through 15 days— follow me for more study tips and aesthetic content.
tip number five: practise effective note-taking techniques.
Note-taking is the fundamentals of your higher education, and can only come by practising. Simply jotting down what you see from a slideshow is not the most effective way to understand and retain the information. Active note-taking techniques, like the Cornell method and mind mapping, can change the way you retain and process information.
The Cornell note-taking method is a structured approach that emphasises organisation and involvement. Divide your note-taking paper into three sections: one on the left, one on the right, and one at the bottom. Take notes in the right-hand column during the lecture or reading, focusing on major concepts, key points, and supporting info. After the lecture, go back your notes and jot down prompts or keywords that summarise the information in the right column in the left column. Write a brief summary of the entire page of notes in the final section. This summary serves as a quick reference for future reference.
Tumblr media
Mind mapping is a visual note-taking approach that utilises diagrams to communicate conceptual links. Begin at the centre of your page with a key point, central idea or topic. Extend the basic theme with subtopics or main points. Connect them using lines. Expand on each subtopic with relevant details, examples, and supporting information. Make your mind map more aesthetically appealing and remembered by using colours, symbols, and images.
Tumblr media
The connecting element among all strategies is active participation. Actively digesting material while taking notes, rather than simply writing words, it increases cognitive involvement. As a result, comprehension, memory retention, and recall improve during tests or assignments.
Active participation also fosters critical thinking. You're essentially analysing the material as you go while you're organising thoughts, summarising stuff, and visually showing linkages. This practice increases higher-order thinking skills, making it simpler to comprehend complex issues and efficiently apply your knowledge.

Library Study #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Studying in the library is fun!! ☘️
ִֶָ 𓂃˖˳·˖ ִֶָ ⋆★⋆ ִֶָ˖·˳˖𓂃 ִֶָ
Tip of the day:
Find what keeps you interested in studying something externally (i.e. environment) and internally (i.e. what can make you like a subject)
I-> I usually study in the library because I could concentrate better there. I think it is because my subjects, as of this term, allow for more free periods than most others which means lesser people. - Additionally, there's lots of natural lighting in this specific campus. The library is in another campus from my school's IB (and college) campus and in there, there's more windows and so much more natural lighting. - Thus the library radiates this nostalgic, happy feeling I got from my old school because, in my old school, there was a lot of natural lighting as well (at least prior to HS lol).
-> And in this instance, I think I bumped into my math teacher who was reading the newspaper and doing its crossword. He asked me for a pen and it was a little awkward at first but it was alright once I started working. LOL. (he's a fun teacher ngl)
Also I succumb less to peer pressure,, if I wanna be in the class on time then I should be..
Thanks for stopping by!
- Matcha 🍵
What I worked on:
Math practice questions
Reading my sociology book (for fun + CAS!!)
Reviewing a bit of bio.
📚 Book: Sociology by Craig Calhoun (will borrow again!)
🎧 'Music': The sway of trees from the window.

Monday 4th September 20:20
I haven't updated my three followers in a while now so I thought I probably should. The IB was going really great, but then, last week, I caught a cold and was very sick from Friday to today, and missed quite a bit of school work. I'm catching up fine though, only some homework that I haven't done and math. Last year, maths was one of my best subjects, but I haven't been so great at keeping up now. I have a hard time understanding even the simple stuff. I'msure I'll catch up quick enough, but it's still hard to feel so stupid and useless. I just have to put some more hours to maths and after that I have to make sure I follow the routines I've set for myself. Then it will be fine.
Tumblr media
^^ my little math study setup on my bed, I was too tired to sit at the desk hahahh
[ Another thing I've thought about as well is my subject choices. Even though I'm sick, I went to the history class that a close friend of mine and my boyfriend are in, and I like it so much more than philosophy. Hopefully I'll be able to swap into that group, I'm so excited for that. ]

Obligatory Intro Post
Welcome! Glad to have you here:)
Who am I?
Name: Call me North on this blog, even if you know my real name haha. Flash is also fine! that’s generally what I go by online Main blog: @clockwork-windmills Pronouns: they/them -- in fact, here's my pronouns page! Where I'm from: England
What tags do you use here?
#further from maths master tag
#further from feelings not-studying stuff
#further from my blog reblogs
#[number] days until how many days away the end of the IB was on the day I posted
#haha goal post goals!
Subject specific tags listed below
What do you study?
I study the International Baccalaureate, and I'm currently in my second and final year! The sidebar of my blog has an up-to-date countdown until my last exam is over:) My subjects are:
#ib psychology HL
#ib global politics HL
#ib english language and literature HL
#ib computer science SL
#ib maths analysis and approaches SL
#ib german ab initio SL
What are your goals?
I have pretty high predicted grades -- currently chilling at a very crazy 43 -- so my main goal is to meet those if I can! My priority is English, because I need a 6 in HL English LangLit to get into the uni course I want. An unconditional would be insanely cool, but even a conditional with sliiightly lower English grade would be fantastic.
What are your plans after you finish the IB?
University, baby! I want to study creative writing. I'm not applying to Oxbridge because I don't want to lol, but with a pretty hefty predicted grade set, I have quite a lot of other options:) I've got a few more open day visits to go through, but right now I'm very interested in Warwick!
It's possible I'll do a law/teaching postgrad, but I'm pretty sure I want to work in publishing after uni.
What do you post about?
I (plan to) post:
typical studyblr content
screaming into the void that is tumblr, because the IB is the hardest thing I will do in my life
revision explanations
how uni prep is going
monthly goal updates
I'll update this as I get back into the swing of things.
What do you do outside of schoolwork?
Writing, funnily enough. I used to do theatre, but I had to sacrifice it to the IB gods for more hours in the day:') I also have a bunch of silly interests I reblog stuff about over on my main blog!

⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ 15 tips through 15 days— follow me for more study tips and aesthetic content.
tip number one: define your goals for the upcoming academic year and how you intend to achieve them.
what do you aim to achieve in each subject? Set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
Tumblr media
instead of saying something generic like, "I want to do well in English. I'll do this by reading."
you can use the guidelines (SMART) above, and instead establish a goal such as, "I'd like to further develop my vocabulary by the end of the semester. This will be achieved by reading books above my comprehension level and keeping a vocabulary list of words I don't understand."
this goal is SMART. It is specific (develop vocabulary), measurable (vocabulary list) achievable (reading books), relevant (books above comprehension level will make you more familiar with new vocabulary), and time-bound (the end of semester).
write down your goals and keep them accessible throughout the year. This allows you to better focus your efforts and track your success.
what are some of your goals for the next academic year?
