I just got into the fandom and I love it so much. However, there are parts where I just cringe. I’m going to be completely honest when I say I can’t see SS being a thing, a healthy one at that. A rumor said that Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him. I just... find it utterly bullshit. Hell, even I do ship narusasu, I tried to be open minded and not fall too far off canon or the characters. I don’t understand how Sasuke had those feelings for her when all he did was shown the opposite and it felt genuine. He seem always annoyed and pushes her away. She kept forcing her feelings on him when he makes it clear that he’s not interested. I don’t hate the ship because it’s not my ship but because it’s extremely toxic. It feels one-sided (Sakura’s side) more than anything and it’s makes it hard to believe he had those feelings for her. I mean, on the second episode of season five, she confessed and poured out her heart and he blew it off. I cringed hard and was beyond disappointed because she’s making it about herself. That’s literally how I feel about their damn “relationship”. She made it about her and her only. When he’s hurting, it’s about her. It’s so annoying and it makes me see how self-centered Sakura. When she said she understood Sasuke, I wanted to scream (I nearly did but my family is sleeping and I don’t need a lecture.) She doesn’t know Jackshit about Sasuke besides he’s the only survivor of his decease clan, he’s a loner who cares only about himself, and he’s attractive. She’s just like every other fangirl expect she’s on his team. I’m trying my best not to hate her but Damn she’s really pushing it. Anything that annoyed me was that she made it seem like they were dating, again making it about herself and her feelings. She sent Naruto to get Sasuke for her benefits, so she can keep him. Again, disregarding Sasuke’s feelings and what he wanted. Naruto should’ve said “I’ll bring him back because HE wants too, to keep HIM safe, not for you.” I just can’t with this ship. I’m still wondering why the hell is it even a thing? Also find it beyond pitiful how she stayed with Sasuke in Boruto when he left for 12-13 years?! No note. No checking up. Nothing. Hell, Sarada doesn’t know how her own father looks like or the truth of her mother. Both of them were miserable and I find it absolutely ridiculous when SS shippers still say “they’re in love” or they’re OTP. If that’s what true love looks like (good thing it’s not), then I’d die single. I can’t be the only one who thinks this ship is just as bad as Harley Quinn x Joker.

Me being an SNS shipper, I am just going to write this from a non-SNS perspective. Meaning, I am going to consider Naruto and Sasuke are just friends or rivals. 

Bear with my lengthy answer.

Where do I even begin?

A rumor said that Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him.

I think this rumor is from a light novel called Akatsuki Hiden or whatever shit. But for me, it looks like a pathetic attempt to convince those horny women shippers who would pay any money to read a romance which mirrors their own love life where they desire an ‘unreachable & handsome’ man who has this ‘cool & overbearing’ aura and carries this ‘bad boy badass’ vibe. They would do anything to get the attention from this boy. Until this point is where the reality ends. 

What they really wants to happen and fantasize is somehow that handsome man, one day, will look only them and recognize their love and becomes a ‘soft’ guy who would bring the heavens for them and treats her like a princess. That fantasy led them to buy these novels and believe everything while completely disregarding the canon material. And those novels are aimed at these type of women.

You must have been wondering now, ‘I have seen these type of shit somewhere’!!!!!

That’s right.

50 Shades of Grey, Twilight, Beauty and the Beast, 100′s of K-Drama, C-Drama follow this shit romance trope and it’s regrettably fucking popular. 

In other words, Don’t believe anything apart from the canonic resources. 

Let’s dissect the canon materials about SS.

TEAM 7 

This is how it all started

Does anyone see anything positive here???? 

Well, I am not.

Sakura wanted to impress Sasuke. Since, Naruto always picks fight with Sasuke, she badmouthed Naruto in the hopes that Sasuke will recognize some common ground with her which may develop into a friendship. But she shot her own foot. 

[Regardless, I hated her here and she never redeemed herself, for her being completely insensitive & oblivious towards Sasuke’s life, the boy she loves]

Technically, Sasuke should have said ‘You’re Annoying’ towards Naruto for kissing him before the class and tying him up later. Here, Sakura is simply badmouthing another guy. He, somehow, find this very annoying than anything Naruto did earlier. 

Sasuke always had feelings for Sakura but he didn’t know how to show them because hatred blinded him.

Am definitely not seeing any feelings here.  

ZABUZA ARC

Alright, much later, somehow Sasuke started to integrate into team 7 and started to see them as a Family. No denial here. He started to care about everyone in his team at some point. Which was evident from the way he thought to himself, ‘That was Sakura’s voice... What is Kakashi doing?’

But does it means he hopelessly fell in love with her??? Nope. 

It’s just a team camaraderie where he was worried about his teammate. If he has special feelings towards her, he should have said ‘I must go save Sakura’ or something along the line. 

But, later in that episode, he went on to die for Naruto and even at his dying moments he didn’t think about Sakura or Team 7. It was all about someone else.

Even seconds before falling into Naruto’s arms, Sasuke was smiling with no regrets. 

It was funny very later that after he got up from his temporary death, rather than consoling her like ‘Sakura, Don’t cry. Am alright’ or anything, he was asking ‘Where’s Naruto?’. LOL.

Even much later, when Sakura was asking him about a date, he bluntly said ‘I refuse’.

So, you’re telling me, throughout this arc, a boy blinded with hatred can able to pout, play childish games, train and die for a boy but when it comes to Sakura he can’t show his feelings???

Sorry, I don’t see romance here. Not in this arc.

Whether you agree or not, every parent has their favorite child, every child has their favorite parent. Even within your family, you always have a special person.

For Sasuke, Itachi was that person in his real family. Sakura was not that person in his Team 7 family. It was Naruto.

CHUNIN EXAMS ARC

This arc is where those SS shippers celebrates a lot and I know why. Remember earlier I talked about that shitty 50 Shades of Grey romantic trope??? The following scene vaguely falls under that pattern.

A guy loses his control because of a cursed seal and beats up the guys who hurt one of his teammates which happens to be a girl and calms down after seeing the girl. 

That Infamous back hug. 

I understand why SS people lose their mind with that scene. And I don’t blame them. I am going to throw their own proof at them.

So, this First databook, tells us that he finally sees both Naruto and Sakura as comrades and his heart softens from the path of revenge, a little bit.

Definitely, Sakura’s tears or love towards him stopped his rampage. But nothing says about whether Sasuke loves her back.  

Much later, Sasuke also stops his cursed seal on his own after thinking about worried Sakura and a screaming Naruto (Who don’t know about this seal thingy at that time). 

Well, whatever. That databook has another funny fact, that too in the same page. 

LOL. Weird!!!! This accidental kiss unravels Sasuke’s heart ❤️❤️???? 🤣🤣🤣

So, influencing Sasuke’s heart can be attributed to both his teammates,according to this databook. Atleast upto this arc. There are no special feelings for Sakura alone, guys. 

Proof?

If Sasuke really considers her in a romantic light (this is after that back hug), he doesn’t have to do this at all. Believe me, Love is all about subconsciously or purposefully enjoying or feeling little touches. Those touches can be through eyes, memories or physical. Sakura is delighted with his touch because she loves him but Sasuke just see her as a comrade and keeping his distance but this time very politely.

If Kishi really likes these couple, he doesn’t have to make this scene at all. It’s not just this one instance, he rejected her twice very bluntly before this saying ‘Don’t cling to me!!!’, ‘Sakura, you’re heavy!!!’. 

If you say her back hug is a token of romance, then I can say ‘this’ kiss is also a token of romance. You can’t ignore one while keeping the other.

Anyways, at the end of the arc, Orochimaru is the best judge to identify who can change Sasuke’s heart. And that person is not Sakura.

DEPARTURE

But, atleast, I thought she was genuine in the first part of the proposal, like saying ‘Revenge is not good’.....bla bla.. Because, Revenge will never satisfy a person completely and I agree. Then she took a 180 degree by saying ‘Take me with you, Sasuke-Kun. I’ll make you happy’. This is where I lost it entirely. ‘Alright Bitch, So you really don’t care about his revenge or health. As long as you have the chance to get inside his pants, you are okay with it. So you are okay with Sasuke going to Orochimaru as long as you are with him..... Fucking Shit!!!!’  This is not okay at all. 

How did Sasuke respond?

“Why should I have to tell you anything”

“I’m telling you to keep your nose out of my business”

“Stop bothering me over everything I do”

Ummm..... where I come from, this screams ‘Irritation’ to me. Added to it, throughout the whole conversation he never saw her face. There was evidently no pain or anything from his face. On top the cake, here comes the cherry

“You really are...annoying”

This is where he saw her face throughout that painful confession before knocking her out. Umm... When you love someone or atleast feel for someone, you will look in their eyes and speak some farewell words before you leave. Or atleast show some pain??? There’s visibly nothing from Sasuke’s face. 

Alright, I know what SS wankers will pull out here. That Databook 2 with some vague words. I am going to throw this at them. 

Again, like I acknowledged before, he considers her as a comrade and part of a family. So, her existence also eased his loneliness. But you have to look at the word choice here. “The one that filled his lonely existence was Sakura”. It’s not the ‘Only’ person. Before he left he said ‘Thanks’. Meaning, Thanks for all these days. That’s all between us. 

This piece was about the Team 7 picture. So he acknowledges, he was not alone during his genin days because of his companions and Kakashi (so it’s not just Sakura to ease his loneliness). Whatever he said to Sakura was real. 

So can we safely confirm “You’re annoying” is real????

But what’s really interesting is the way Sasuke projects himself before Naruto. I am going to refrain myself from attaching all those rollercoaster of emotions flowed throughout the fight in VoTE 1. Otherwise, it will become an SNS post. 

However, this particular scene caught my attention.

Ummm.... Initially Sasuke walks without looking at Naruto. Then he looks back and answers him. 

Naruto was pretty much asking the same question as Sakura. “Why does it come to this?”

But Sasuke pauses and surprised for a moment and asks him pretty much “Why do you care about me?”

Why couldn’t Sasuke do the same with Sakura???? Kishi can pretty much make a panel or two rather than making some insulting panels.

Anyways, If they throw the databook, then I can also throw the same.

Alright, can someone explain the highlighted sentence for me???? Because I want to confirm whether I have a blurry vision.

Here, Sasuke is trying to punctuate Naruto as a different person from the rest of his companions. ‘his companions as well as that with Naruto’, I mean, Come on!!!! Naruto is also one of your companions along with Sakura. Why differentiate????

‘The village, companions, Naruto,....’ . Again....He is differentiating his home (village), companions (his friends), and Naruto. So who is Naruto for him? What is the need to make exception for Naruto? It’s very clear he is placing Naruto at a high pedestal for some unknown reasons.

Before this Databook dissection, remember I said something about saying Goodbye, ‘ When you love someone or at least feel for someone, you will look into that person’s eyes and speak some farewell words before you leave‘

Sasuke is doing exactly that here in this scene without saying anything.

Am sorry SS shippers, you can scream all you want about Sasuke knocked her out and left her on the bench. But there was no emotional distraught when he left her. Sasuke seemingly spent a longer time staring at Naruto than looking at Sakura when she confessed. 

OROCHIMARU HIDEOUT

Well, there is nothing I can say about here for SS. He pretty much saw her and said, “Sakura, huh?”.. And that’s all. He didn’t give two shits about her. 

His attention was completely on someone else. 

UNDER THE BRIDGE

She sent Naruto to get Sasuke for her benefits, so she can keep him. Again, disregarding Sasuke’s feelings and what he wanted. Naruto should’ve said “I’ll bring him back because HE wants too, to keep HIM safe, not for you.”

Naruto pretty much said the same thing in this arc, Larry. Naruto, in part 1, was happy for Sakura feeling the same about Sasuke as him, that is ‘To bring him back’. And also sad that his crush really loves someone else. But after Sakura gave up on Sasuke and faking her confession, Naruto decided, ‘Alright, I want to save him personally. I don’t care about our promise anymore”. 

This is where, SS ship goes into a crazy ride and it’s not a positive one.

Sasuke was on a rampage. He lost the ability to differentiate between his friends and foes. He stabbed Karin. And when he find her alive, he was about to Chidori her. 

And then comes the pink princess, full of lies and deceit. And Sasuke being impatient and disgusted with her lies, he does this

Well, in part 1, she had a degree of power to change his heart. But not here. He, instead, got riled up more and even tried to kill her without a warning and that too by not looking at her face. Pathetic!!!!

This scene screams ‘Trust issues’ from both sides. 

Did it stop here???

Fucking Shit!!!!!! Is there any people who still ship this nonsense?. If you are a Sakura fan, you should hate her for the lack of trust and backstabbing the person she loves, 

If you are a Sasuke fan, errrrmmm.....I have nothing to say. You know what to do. 

There is nothing positive here, that can make me ship them. He is killing her like a Mosquito.

If you truly loved someone in the past, even in your darkest moments, you will be honest and you cannot fake before that person.   

Proof??

Here, Sasuke had a clear resolve to kill his brother, Itachi. He lived for this moment for about 8 years and immersed himself in Darkness for 3 years with Orochimaru. He could have run away, dodge or look away from Itachi. But Sasuke simply couldn’t!!! You know why?? Sasuke loved Itachi once more than anything in this world. At this moment, he is letting all those defense loose and embracing the moment and see what Itachi was about to do. Because somewhere in his heart he trusts Itachi. 

But killing Sakura doesn’t make Sasuke feel anything. She is just another victim like Danzo or Karin or all those Samurais or a fucking mosquito!!!!

So you are telling me that Sasuke had feelings for her but kept it hidden all along and still tried to kill her like a pest???

Give me a fucking break!!!!

And you all know, who changed Sasuke’s heart here in this scene. It was not Sakura. There’s absolutely no reason for Sasuke to listen to that person and what’s more, Sasuke even made a promise (despite being in darkness, he had it in his heart to listen to that person) to destroy Konoha only after killing that person .. 

WAR ARC

Well, this is the arc where Sakura behaves like a rabid dog on heat waiting for Sasuke and shamelessly trying to wag her tails. But Sasuke didn’t give two shits about her, not once or twice but multiple times.

MOMENT 1

An explosion was about to kill the whole shinobi alliance and this dude wants to save Jugo, his companion and Naruto, the person who will challenge his Revolution, his rival and the one whom he wants to kill. Why only Naruto??? Why not Naruto and Sakura???

Pink cherry Queen doesn’t even crossed Sasuke’s mind.  Because he already threw her away in part 1. 

MOMENT 2

Alright Bitch!!! The entire shinobi alliance was dying on the other side of the battlefield. And this asshole is doing a clownshow before Madara just to get inside Sasuke’s pants????

I mean, Come On!!!! 

Well, if Sasuke truly likes her, he should be the one to have catched her or atleast should have asked her, ‘are you alright??’ 

I am sorry, where are the romantic feelings???

MOMENT 3

ROFLLLL🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

For the first time, Kishimoto is trolling those Sakutards through Sasuke’s words, what we, readers were right about all along. He is calling her useless here. And still these fake feminazis trying to ship her with him???

Don’t you guys have any self respect??? If so, this should be the moment to jump out of this trash ship.

MOMENT 4

Geez!!! You are still on this ship????? 

He clearly doesn’t want to save her at all. The hawk can clearly lift 3 people. Sasuke is not even making an effort here. 

And you are still yapping that he is blinded by darkness??? 

MOMENT 5

This is the moment SS calls it as ‘eyesmex’... While in reality, he was just looking at her and silently thanking her for helping him out. Do you know what is a real ‘eyesmex’??? I will attach it at the end.

If you guys pull this as true love, then he should have stayed in the same love till the end. But Sasuke has other ideas. 

This is the one of the funniest thing in this arc. LOLLLLL

Instead of being relieved that Sakura was saved, Sasuke was wondering about Kakashi’s Susanoo.....and Sharingan. 

Do people still think he cares about her????

MOMENT 6

Am cackling here, while dissecting the sorry state of this ship guys 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!! If something good happens to me because of SS , it’s just the way you guys are making me laugh by making a clown out of yourself!!!!

Do you guys know something? There was a man named Itachi. Before massacring his clan, the very first person he killed was his ‘supposed’ Girlfriend, named Izumi. I wouldn’t say Itachi loved her like a lover boy. It was just one sided on her part. He just talks to her when he finds a spare time and considers her a good friend. 

Do you know how he killed her? 

By putting her in a ‘Tsukuyomi’. And what kind of Tsukuyomi, you ask?

Can you see how he fulfilled her dreams gracefully before he was going to kill her???

Why didn’t Sasuke do this???? Why particularly select a murdering genjutsu????

MOMENT 7

He said it, finally.

He don’t love her at all. There was no hidden feelings. He admitted from his own mouth. 

One day later, after the final VoTE battle ends.... After exchanging some intense feelings and even crying tears of happiness with Naruto....

Sasuke tells Sakura, ‘Sorry’....

Ummm.... That’s all???

All those negative shits happened before cannot be solved by just simply saying ‘Sorry’ and ‘Thank you’. If someone has an ounce of self-respect, they should know this is not OKAY at all...🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️

Am Sorry, but Sasuke was just being politely blunt, kind of insincere towards Sakura and turned his attention somewhere else in a matter of minutes. He was not even bothered by Sakura’s tears here. Instead staring at someone on his left. Remember I talked about touching the person physically and visually?

Sasuke is subconsciously or purposefully touching someone on his left through his eyes. Definitely it’s not Sakura. You know who it is. Remember SStards’ infamous ‘eyesmex’... I seriously believe this is a perfect example of ‘eyesmex’.

All these intense looks and feeling pain still doesn’t serve Sakura, even after pulled out of darkness. If there is a moment, where SS wants to shine, then this is where it should be. He should have told her, how he missed her all along, how he felt about hurting her, should have wiped her tears and some corny shit. But instead, Sasuke went for a long ass monologue for his friend and talking about sharing his pain. 

What about your kween’s pain???? 

You don’t have to ship SNS. But you should know where Sasuke’s priorities are. 

It’s not Sakura. 

Sasuke said ‘Sorry’ to Karin too. ‘Thank you’ to Kakashi as well. 

And what’s even more pathetic is, still Sakura wants to get inside Sasuke’s pants by accompanying him. Bitch, you can help your village, console your best friend Ino who lost her father, try to surpass Tsunade, improve your skills or whatever... Why bother him???

So, if you really think ‘Thank you’ as a token of love, then I can’t help it but term Sakura as a rabid dog who waits for her master to come home and throw some bones whenever he finds time. Your standards for a romantic love is piss poor and you will suffer just like Sakura in Boruto with just emptiness. All Sasuke did was poke her forehead just like Itachi which symbolizes keeping someone at a distance. He also said the same words to her just like Itachi said to him many times ‘Mata kondo da’ meaning ‘Maybe next time’. And we all knew that next time never came for Sasuke. 

Now all we see is a Sasuke as an absentee father in Boruto for which I don’t blame him. He was never a marriage material in the first place. Sakura and the Manga Editors forced him and she is paying for it. 

Hell, Sarada doesn’t know how her own father looks like or the truth of her mother. Both of them were miserable and I find it absolutely ridiculous when SS shippers still say “they’re in love” or they’re OTP.

All I want to say to SS shippers is, Your Ship Has Sailed Already. You cannot expect Sasuke to go lovey dovey towards Sakura with a 12 year old daughter around and for fuck’s sake, this is not a romance manga, it’s a battle manga. So stop dreaming about this kind of non-existential romance and pull yourself altogether.

Ahh thank you so much!I love this prompt lol! I’m dummy weak thinking about a bunch of 1500s warlords finding out in the future that people write headcanons/fanfics/fanart of them dream about fictional dudes. I’m people 😂. Also put what genre/type of anime they’d be into if they were able to be introduced to anime and manga.

Kenshin: Probably thought that Sasuke and MC were siblings because of her using similar weird words and fangirling during the weirdest times. Sasuke would explain to him how from their time that stories and tales were widespread and had vivid illustrations that people would gather around and develop a fanbase. Would be very confused to see keychains and anime merch from MC’s bag from the future. When he asked why there were decorations of 2D men, MC excitedly explained how they were all “best boys” and tell their stories and tales, meanwhile Kenshin was glaring daggers at these fictional men that pose a threat. “Kenshin your yandere side is showing. You are the bestest boy and you’re the only one I want to wifey up.” He’ll have to ask Sasuke what half of that sentence meant, but he was pleased that he was the 3D man that she chose. If MC could bring back some manga/anime for Kenshin, he’d be in love with any war/gore and action based ones. Not necessarily for characters but how cool the action and fight scenes are and wants to try them out with Sasuke (run Sasuke).

Ieyasu: Was very confused when they first met and MC was very eager and pushy to get to know him better. “Why are you following me, you weakling?” “I know you’re a tsundere. You’re hard on the outside but gooey on the inside. I’ve played so many routes with tsunderes that I shall uncover you in no time. Just like the simulations!” *cue Ieyasu thinking MC is absolutely insane and going the complete opposite direction*. Eventually MC grew on him and he did end up softening up and falling in love (JUST LIKE THE SIMULATIONS! SCORE FOR MC). Would find a lot of the terminology MC uses weird but still made him want to learn what it meant.  Did not know what “I ship it” meant when MC chuckled that when he started complaining about Mitsunari, but rest assured will gag when he finds out. Startles MC when they’re laying in bed and he says “I.. ship us.” awkwardly trying to use her weeb terminology, earning a kiss for this cute tsundere 😉. If MC could bring back some manga/anime, he’d be very intrigued with complex characters and plots that have both dark and light elements and have an overall empowering message. Relates to characters that have a tragic backstory but endure and grow stronger and roots for them in the end. (Might imagine MC as the love interest but don’t tell MC that)

Hideyoshi: Now the first thing coming out of MC’s mouth when he decided to trust her and smile at MC while offering to be friends and help carry the vase she was carrying was “A-am I witnessing gap moe in real life?” with a look of utter awe. This confused the heck out of him, “M-my name’s Hideyoshi. Who’s Gap-Moe?” Eventually would get used to the random terminology, although very confused. When he saw the anime themed keychains and wallet in MC’s purse and asked about it, he should’ve prepared tea because that was a looong lecture that he understood nothing of but found it adorable how excited MC was talking about it. “Wait so what are fangirls?” “You know those girls in town that rush to you and gush over you? Those are fangirls. My fangirl group just goes after fictional guys.”, making him confused even more while also lowkey wishing MC was his fangirl and wondering if he is a fanboy for MC (spoiler alert: he IS. And he’s a fanboy for Nobunga). Made him realize how much MC made his kokoro go doki doki (this is the most otaku trash phrase I’ve ever said). If MC could bring manga/anime, he’d love anime where good trumps evil and heroes defeat villains because he loves imagining defeating injustice and having a happy ending for Japan while defeating the cruel enemies and rivals around Nobunga. Also loves emotional/heart wrenching love story manga and anime that make you cry and get hit hard in the feels with the characters b/c he’s such a romantic with a big heart. Would hug the hell out of MC after finishing of any of those types of series while saying that he will always love her‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚

Bonuses b/c I thought they’d be fun:

Shingen: Literally finds anything about MC fascinating, and the fact that they’re passionate about fictional stories and are so emotionally touched by them made him love that MC had a big heart, even for fictional characters. Gets a lil jealous when MC starts fawning over specific fictional dudes. When MC and Shingen are a couple and she starts talking about one of her fictional baes he’d probably literally sweep her off her feet and say something cheesy like “But can he do this” and swoop in for dat kiss. Would probably find his own meaning in the terminology and use it. “This is my waifu, my goddess, I am her biggest fanboy.” is how he’d probably introduce MC as (swoon). If MC could bring manga/anime, he’d be a hardcore sucker for romance anime and would reenact many of the romantic scenes, even the confession scenes. “Shingen we’re married. This is the 45th time you’ve confessed to me.” “But not like from this anime (´•ω•̥`). Would also like detective/mystery series bc he likes unraveling mysteries and plays behind the scenes.

Yukimura: “Not another Sasuke-speaker.” Would be hanging out with MC and Sasuke and listening to the weird terminologies. Would also probably make fun of MC at first for her fantasizing about fictional men and having merch of them saying “Is that cuz you can’t get a real life man?” (cue the heated arguing). Would eventually be intrigued by some of the story plots MC tells him and would eventually fall for her nerdiness and everything. Would ask Sasuke for help on coming up how to confess to MC like in the anime and otome games she talks about (A for effort, my boy). Would be a blushy puddle but puff his chest out if MC fangirled over him. If MC could bring anime and manga, he’d freaking LOVE superhero anime bc he just wants to save everyone and do whats right and he just looks like the type of dude that loves superheroes and superpowers and gets pumped when the hero defeats the bad guy.

Mitsuhide: Would be curious about these strange, foreign words MC says, even though its just fangirl lingo from 500 years in the future. Would probably tease MC if they had any keychains or small merch of anime characters. “Why have a pocket-sized man to love if there’s a full sized one right here.” 😉. Would find it very creative that there’s so many diverse stories and characters. Loves when MC gets excited talking about story plots, gets a lil jealous and tries steering the topic away from thirsting over the dudes. Would probably confess his feelings by saying “Is there a real life story about a kitsune falling for a foolish mouse and they become lovers for eternity?” “Not that I know of.” “Want to make that story happen?”. Would love speaking modern slang and otaku terms with MC because its like their own little love language and it also pisses Hideyoshi off since he doesn’t understand wtf they’re saying. If MC brought manga/anime, would love psychological based horror, seeing how characters react to scary situations and what’s the mental breaking point to madness, or plots with mind games and outwitting opponents bc he’s all about that big brain and likes seeing characters creatively outsmart enemies. Likes characters that are morally gray/antihero that do good but do so in unorthodox ways bc he relates to them (and is secretly smug if MC says they need more love bc it feels like she’s saying that about him too). Likes stories w/ bittersweet endings because he likes seeing the beauty in things while acknowledging the harshness and cruelty of life as well.

I just came across your blog but I just wanted to say I think it’s hilarious how you mention how all your naruhina friends was shocked that narusaku wasn’t canon, and how I reacted the same way lolol (I’m also naruhina fan). But I also wanted to say as a naruhina fan I 100% agree with your anti naruhina part 1

Part 2 and why I hate kishimoto and naruto (it’s partially why I’m glad I never caught up to shippuden after the pein arc but I still lose because I suffered through the disrespect of naruhina and their character’s development). But tbh I never shipped narusaku b/c I never felt like Sakura was ever in love with him but I just figured they automatically end up to together because they’re the hero and heroine because that’s just how works (except w/ like anthem of the heart)

P 3 but I also thought it end up w/ the story completed with closure but w/ a cliff hanger canon ship too b/c naruto never came off as focus on romance at all & figured be like hey let’s call it a wrap. Tbh would’ve preferred it so there wouldn’t be so much hate amongst everyone in the fandom. basically i just wanna clarify that the things you are bringing up are a good 3-5 years old lmao so honestly i don’t care/stand for a lot of ship-related things you mentioned. I will however give you a brief respond regarding Sakura not being relatable. 

Sakura being the most beautiful and popular wasn’t exactly a narrative that was pushed to the viewers throughout the manga, nor was it something that defined her character. It might’ve been more relevant in the genin days when she cared about having long hair and being pretty, but that was something that she overcame in the forest of death when she cut her hair off to protect naruto and sasuke. After that she didn’t care much for her appearance if you ask me. I find Sakura to be incredibly relatable and good example in that sense, but also when it comes to her other flaws. She has a short temper, she misjudged people ( Lee and Naruto ) , she had to constantly compare herself to Naruto and Sasuke while training under Tsunade , she made a lot of mistakes , she’s not very likable amongst the fandom. In an interview Kishimoto even explained that Sakura and Lee are the most human characters out of the bunch. SO, Sakura is indeed relatable and she has a LOT of human flaws which can make viewers dislike her. Ironically, to me that’s what makes her interesting. Not to mention, the more people hate her because of double standards, the more it makes me like her lmao. One example is that people can praise Hinata for attempting to fight Neji or Pain despite failing, but they’ll call Sakura useless just for appearing on screen. See my point here?  I’m not trying to pit these characters against each other, i just find it quite irritating that people do. Hinata is definitely more likable to an audience because of her soft-spoken nature and her crush on naruto. She is also one of the characters that is easy to pity and sympathize with imo. Also, she certainly doesn’t have a bland or boring look to her? I find her very pretty! I think that’s just something they like to describe her as but not really portray her as lol

"good to see multisaku is still toxic" I really hope this doesn't come off as rude and apologize in advance if it does, but why are you surprised? A lot of multisakus hate sasuke (or ship her with random characters to get her out of the way of their otp, some don't even like sakura lol) and only bring up things like feminism or "abuse" to guilt trip/demonize ss shippers. Usually because they don't want to see their self insert shipped w/ a character they don't like. It's been like this for ages.

I dunno, I mean I do get what you’re saying, it’s just that...usually in fandoms a multishipper tends to just really like a character and their chemistry with lots of people. They can have a NOTP involved, including their canon romance, but...it’s not like when you get involved in the main rival romances where you expect a ship war. Of course Harry/Hermione and Ron/Hermione will slapfight for all eternity, but Hermione/Tom is not going to have that as a feature.

Multisaku shippers, on the other hand, have this tendency to do something like “Lee would love and respect Sakura, unlike that abuser Sasuke honestly she deserves Lee” or “TBH Sai’s so much better and healthier for Sakura than Sasuke, Sakura only cares about Sasuke’s looks!”

I’m not saying you can’t ship Sakura with Lee and Sai and also think Sasuke is terrible for her - in example, I really like Ishihime (not enough to remember their ship name, evidently) and disdain Ichihime, but if I’m going to gush about Ishihime, I’m gonna do it separately from criticizing Ichihime. I don’t need to justify wanting Uryuu and Orihime to boink by saying that Ichigo and Orihime are boring or whatever. My enjoyment of the ship can stand on its own.

Naruto, in particular multisaku, is just so weirdly toxic and salty. Instead of just focusing on how lovely LeeSaku or InoSaku is, they just keep focusing on how ‘bad’ Sasusaku is and how by comparison they’re better. But should your ship only be good in comparison to ‘an abusive terrible romance’? Shouldn’t it be good on its own, and able to stand on its own?

I agree completely that the abuse narrative and the feminism/strong Sakura nonsense is complete fabrications made to prop up a shipwar, and it’s NEVER applied equally, just used as a tool to try to stop people from shipping what they don’t like. I just find if unreasonable that years later literal crackships have to build their entire identity around how bad the canon ship is, instead of how good their ship is. This is pretty much a Naruto-fandom only thing and it’s weird.

Working on a rather lengthy assignment for his engineering class, dark eyes flicker up as his computer makes an all too familiar sound of receiving a message.

A corner of his lips quirk as his girlfriend pokes in to check on him. His pencil is abandoned, keyboard taken up as he replies, Just typical homework. Need something?

Signing off to begin crossing from her dorm to his, Hinata’s status goes offline, and Sasuke decides to call it quits a little early. Tidy as he is, there’s a bit to be picked up in his (thankfully solo) dorm room. Gotta have everything just right, after all. Once clothes are picked up, trash binned, and bed made, he lounges at his desk until a soft knock sounds.

“Come on in.”

Hinata peers around a bit sheepishly, stepping in and closing the door. “Hey…”

“Hey gorgeous.”

“Sasuke…”

“What? Just being honest.”

“You’re r-ridiculous.”

“And yet you love me anyway,” he retorts lowly, grinning as she crosses the room.

“Somehow, yes,” she replies, smiling warmly at him. Knowing his chair isn’t exactly built for two people, she instead grips the arms, leaning over him coyly. “So...ready to take a study break…?”

“For you, any time.” Hands lift to cup at her cheeks, pulling her down to mesh their lips. Hinata breathes a soft sigh, smelling like lilac as she always does. If she ever changes body wash, he’ll be glaringly disappointed. Kissing her slowly until she’s out of breath, he then abandons his seat and stands, grip moving to her waist. The feeling of her hands on his chest - even atop his shirt - makes the skin beneath them warm. “I think your classes need to get cancelled more often,” he murmurs against her mouth, shifting to pay attention to the curve of her jaw.

“I w-wouldn’t mind it,” she agrees, tilting her head for his access. “But I can’t take you away from your homework all the time, can I…? You can’t start failing your classes over a girl, silly.”

“I’m used to crunch time. It’d be worth it…”

Giggling, Hinata lets him push her over atop his mattress, eyes warm with affection as he crawls over. “Then I guess I won’t feel bad.”

“Oh no...you’re going to feel anything but bad…” he rumbles, smirking as her cheeks flush pink.

Once all is said and done, the pair of them tired and satisfied, Sasuke hauls himself up and tidies again, leaving Hinata to sleep as he cracks away at more of his assignment. It’s not due until midnight - he’s got plenty of time. And now he’s got a freshly-bolstered mood on top of it all.

No sweat.

...well, some sweat. But not at all homework related.

From there, life goes on as normal. Classes, homework, visits home...and across campus to invade one another’s dorm rooms. They’re both in their last years, and while the pressure is indeed ramping up, they try to take things one day at a time.

But just as graduation looms...something changes. Texts go unanswered, calls go straight to voicemail...and no matter the hour of the day, Hinata isn’t online.

While Sasuke at first puts it down to crunch time...after a few days, he starts to seriously worry. His messages get a little more desperate, asking her to please reply. But still nothing. A visit to her dorm find it empty...either that, or she’s refusing to answer.

What the hell is going on?

Finally fed up one day, he lurks outside her door for hours, waiting for her to either come in or go out. Other students give him odd looks as they pass, but he ignores them. Something is wrong, and he needs to know what.

“S...Sasuke…?”

Head snapping up, his eyes go wide as Hinata stares at him from the end of the hall. Immediately, he frowns. Her body language is all sorts of closed off. If anything...she looks ready to bolt. “...Hinata? Shit Hinata, where have you been? Have you been getting my messages?”

“...I -?”

“I’ve been worried sick! I thought something happened to you!” Abandoning his leaned perch against the wall, he jogs to meet her, slowing and gripping her upper arms firmly. “...are you okay?”

At the question, her eyes suddenly tear up, shoulders shaking against withheld sobs.

Okay, red flag, what the hell?

“...here, let’s - let’s get inside your dorm and talk, okay? Everything’s going to be okay. I’ve got you.” Putting an arm around her, he gently leads her to the proper door, which she unlocks and then locks behind them. “Hinata, babe...what’s wrong? Please, talk to me.”

Arms hugging herself tightly, she seems to struggle against her emotions. “I...I-I went home. I, um...I wasn’t feeling well. So...I went to see a doctor - a l-lady that I know.”

“...are you all right?”

“I...y-yeah? I mean...technically, yeah, I’m...I’m fine. But Sasuke, I…” Her breath hitches, and a moment passes as she pauses. “...I-I’m really scared…!”

“What do you mean? Why would you be scared?”

She gives a shaky nod. “...I took t-three at home tests, and then...a clinic test. I’m sure.”

He...isn’t sure what to say. “...w...what do you want to do?”

“I don’t know…!”

“Okay, okay! We’ve...we’ve got time to figure this out. Uh…” A hand rubs at his chin, brain too stuck in its initial panic to really think. “...well...whatever you decide, that’s your decision, Hinata. Not mine. This is your, uh...deal.”

Her gaze averts. “...I-I mean...I’ve always wanted kids, just...I wasn’t really p-planning on it...now.”

“...well, it doesn’t have to be now.”

“...I know. B-but…” She bites her lip. “...in a perfect world, I...I’d like to keep them.”

He gives a slow nod. “...all right. How do we want to make this work?”

At that, Hinata pauses, seemingly taken aback. “Y...you mean you…?”

“What, you think I’m going to run on you now?” he asks. “I thought you knew me better than that.”

“N-no! I...I just...this isn’t exactly the b-best time, and…” Hinata trails off, not sure how to voice her thoughts. “...I thought maybe...maybe it would be...too much.”

Sasuke sighs. “...I mean yeah, it’s...definitely a surprise. But Hinata...look. I…” It’s his turn to fumble. “...I love you. We’ve been together pretty much our entire college careers. And I wasn’t planning on that going away once we graduate. Maybe it’s not how we planned it, but I mean…” He gestures to her. “...I’m here for you. I’ll always be here for you. A bump in the road isn’t going to scare me that easily. I’ve already got work lined up. You’ll have a bit of a late start, but...we can make this work. If that’s what you want.”

“...is it...what you want?”

“...yeah,” he agrees after a pause. “...I love you, Hinata Hyūga. And if things kept working out, then...yeah, I wanted things to progress between us. Kids, marriage, the whole thing. Just because it’s a little soon doesn’t mean I’m against it. Things will be tougher, but...I can do tough.”

Expression crumbling, Hinata crosses to him, arms curled against his chest as she sobs in his arms. “Oh my g-god, I was so worried…”

“...is that why you went AWOL?”

“...I’m sorry...I was just so scared...I-I had to have time to think, and...f-figure out how to talk to you about it.”

“It’s okay...I mean I was worried as hell, but I understand. Just...know you never have to be scared to talk to me, okay? About anything.”

“...I know…”

Sighing, he tucks his chin atop the crown of her head. Well...so much for having a five year plan. But he will make this work.

I’ve only ever been posting snippets of the their silly school life (without following a chronological timeline of events) so here’s some context of how I characterized the ndrv3 kids (essentially the same personalities but with some tweaks) and maybe some info on the relationships in my comics. Implied and outright spoilers, apparently. The rest under the cut.

Kaede Akamatsu: The ‘protagonist spotlight’ mostly falls on her. Personality-wise, she’ll still be the ever cheerful, charming and kind Kaede (with a toned down self-righteousness) but with a dash of her pre-game personality which is being mistrustful and to an extent, condescending. 

Angie Yonaga: Angie is still Angie, but with added eccentricities. Since she her character design kind of implies she’s from an island in the West (okay, Hawaii) which is part of America, she’s going to be referencing memes and western culture.

Kirumi Tojo: Her maid shtick is a conscious effort for her. She has selfish whims and insecurities deep down that calm, collected and altruistic persona that she tries to project. (in-game Tojo was just too one dimensional, ugh)

Tenko Chabashira: She mostly maintains her enthusiastic, down to earth, protective (of the girls) nature but she won’t be too vocal about her aversion towards the MENaces (it was so overdone in the game to the point of being annoying) and with a short temper. Will probably have a sad or comical (still can’t decide which lol) backstory about why she dislikes DEGENERATE MALES.

Himiko Yumeno: Mostly the same with her in-game personality but isn’t dismissive of human interaction. Apart from her “I’m a mage, not a magician” gag, she’s suspected to be always on drugs by most. Secretly stays up late a lot to watch k-drama.

Maki Harukawa: Still anti-social and uptight but it won’t be because of her talent (which is outright revealed to be Ultimate Assassin)… she just hates talking to people her age (lol). Also, her backstory won’t be the same in-game coz that seemed intentionally sad in context, but it’s strangely out of place in a peaceful AU like this. She’s still from an orphanage and serves as an elder sister figure. She was physically conditioned and trained to be an assassin but it turns out it was just a complicated plot to make her a Motion Capture stunt girl for an Assassin’s Creed game. So yeah, she hasn’t really killed anyone in real life but she physically (and mentally??) can, if desired.

Tsumugi Shirogane: She won’t think she’s a plain jane nor will she make an effort to remain a ‘wallflower.’ She’s into a lot of fandoms, naturally. She also stans Junko Enoshima (who isn’t a Despair junkie btw) and makes vague references about “being in a reality show,” (wink, wink)

Miu Iruma: Same ol’ Miu, but will try to make an effort to be likeable. Also has standards, so no she is not going to do lewd things with Teru Teru-sempai.

Shuichi Saihara: Since no one has to die for his character development, it’s going to take awhile for him to remove his hat. At first, he’s still meek and unconfident but not codependent on Kaede. Also adding a dash of his pre-game personality, him being an avid fanboy of all things detective (stans Kyoko Kirigiri, has a sizable collection of Nancy Drew Books and Detective Conan manga etc). Struggles with depression at times.

Kokichi Ouma: Compulsive lying is dumbed down and has his limits with his intentional assholery. His genuinely caring personality will also peek through a lot and he won’t vehemently deny it that much.

Rantaro Amami: Carefree, easygoing and fabulously gay big brother figure of the class. Makes vlogs in the style of Bear Grylls’ Man VS Wild. He also references the Danganronpa franchise plots (except V3) in his stories of his adventures.

Kaito Momota: Still quite sexist but it’s more because of upbringing rather than intentional. He doesn’t just suddenly develop an incurable, deadly disease but he has Tuberculosis (hence, coughs a lot). And, he’s very competitive (his pre-game personality repackaged).

Ryoma Hoshi: Mostly detached and stoic but not depressive and unfeeling. I’m tweaking his backstory a bit coz an ex-con that has served prison time going back to high school is a bit weird (and I don’t want the “HPA pulling shady shenanigans” shtick). His family has been murdered and all he has left is the family cat (that he gets to keep in the dorms) and he’s been pursuing leads about the mafia responsible for it. He’s basically a Sasuke Uchiha here. Anyway, he’s wise but vindictive. Fortunately, he doesn’t want to serve justice with his own hands.

Korekiyo Shinguji: Doesn’t have a sister complex and definitely not a compulsive serial killer here. He’s already got an interesting, creepy persona. Miyadera is alive, but still sickly and would visit him often to bring him home-cooked meals. Unsurprisingly has a fascination for see-saws.

Gonta Gokuhara: still the best boy best boy best boy raised in the mountains He won’t be too gullible here and would even join in roasting Kokichi.

Keebo Idabashi: He’s the Ultimate Robotics Engineer since he’s not a robot. Spent most of his life sheltered (even from the internet) so he’s shy and quite socially inept. Always gets very defensive of his talent.

And now, for the platonic and romantic ships~ I actually multiship but in this AU I’m going to stick to one ship for a particular person since I’m personally not keen on polyamory. (please don’t burn me on a stake)

Kaede||Shuichi: Saimatsu BROTP; in fact, they refer to each other by first name. I didn’t want this to be an “OTP” here since Saimatsu was mostly set up and situational in-game because of Shuichi’s codependency and Kaede’s desire to break him out of his shell, though undeniably they do have a really good chemistry together. Really, I love Saimatsu just-- let them explore their options. (I’m also just bitter I couldn’t flirt more using Kaede after Chapter 1 ;w;)

Kaede|Kirumi: I’m not inconspicuous about it actually lol idk I just see a good chemistry between them. Also, think of the mom jokes since they’re both the class moms. And while my comics tend to jump back and forth chronologically, if I was going to write a fic– their relationship is a slow burn with lots of pining

Shuichi|Kokichi: Their love hotel scene oh my god Kokichi really has it bad and that little liar is a good match for Sai, he facilitated his growth in a (twisted) way but this is an AU so yeah. Beforehand, Kokichi has a slight interest in Rantaro.

Maki|Kaito: This is a canon-ish ship that had a weird development too, but again, they have a nice chemistry too. I wanna explore that normal, potential development between them (also, I’m not sayin they’re both necessarily straight coz this is a straight ship lol).

Himiko|Tenko: There’s just… a lot of potential cuteness in them, even though they were kind of dysfunctional in canon. The fact that they’re polar opposites when it comes to physical activities gives me enough cannon fodder for their tandem. And Himiko being involved with Tenko can really help her a lot (like when the latter’s death in-game impacted her so much).

Kaito||Kokichi: Sort of a Oumota reference lol Chapter 5 gave me an inkling of their dynamics together and it was nice to see that Kaito gave Kokichi a leap of faith despite all his atrocities. So, I think they’d be good friends in the AU, just laced with a lot of badmouthing and insulting each other.

Rantaro||Tsumugi: Mastermind and Survivor solidarity~ They’re good friends in middle school before entering HPA.

Miu||Keebo: They’re both socially inept techie nerds sitting at the back of the class so finding friendship with each other isn’t far from happening. I lowkey shipped them in the game but I haven’t decided in this AU yet~

Well, just about anything, really. My shipping partners can tell you that I love a good heap of angst and drama in my ships - builds character xD and it makes the fluff that much better! Some things I wont roleplay include: incest, underage, rape, domestic violence between two characters, sexual abuse/harassment, sexual violence. While I may elude to these subjects, I never place Kimiko in them and actually roleplay them out. Very uncomfortable subjects for myself. Other than that - I am very much open to all sorts of things. 

3.   HOW  LARGE  DOES  THE  AGE  GAP  HAVE  TO  BE  TO  MAKE  IT  UNCOMFORTABLE?:

Firstly, they both have to be adults, 18+ (UNLESS it’s like, a cute little crush thing when they’re younger. That stuff is innocence) Other than that, age gap is up for debate. I prefer to speak to mun’s about this in IMs. 

4.   ARE  YOU  SELECTIVE  WHEN  SHIPPING? :

Mmm, yes and no. While I might think that Kimiko and (Character) might mesh, it all boils down to chemistry between the two. And Kimiko is very, very picky. 

5. HOW  FAR  DO  STEAMY  MOMENTS  HAVE  TO  GO  BEFORE  THEY’RE  CONSIDERED  NSFW? :

I like to be overtly-cautious when it comes to these things. If I so much hint at something sexual, I’ll put it under a cut and tag it ‘nsfw’ or ‘nsfw-ish’ Unless a partner is uncomfortable, I don’t mind writing out those steamy moments (under a cut and with the appropriate tags)

A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed. Sannin OT3 and every combination to be made between them. Madara/Tobirama, Kakashi/Yamato, Kakashi/Sakura, Itachi/Sakura, Suigetsu/Karin, Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke, Yahiko/Konan/Nagato, Kisame/Mei, Kisame/Itachi, Neji/Tenten, and many others. It changes with the wind or whatever good fanart/fanfic I am exposed to.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will. Have to go outside Naruto for this one, because there is very little I don’t like. Buffy/Angel. There, I said it xD Spike was better. (I won’t argue about this with anyone, it just is what it is)

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it? My OTP is obviously Sannin OT3. I have been lingering outside established fandom since before the term OTP existed, but my old favorites were from Inuyasha -  Miroku/Sango, Sesshoumaru/Kagome

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)? Anime/manga. 

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? No, not really, but I am pretty good at filtering out what I don’t like.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc? Sakura. Can we just forget the ending happened and fill in some gaps, letting her be the awesome character she is and not reduced to a lonely housewife?

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.) Hmm…neutral feelings…what are those? Umm…Iruka perhaps. To me, he is in flat out neutral territory on his own and in canon. I like him in fic if he is characterized the right way. Dominant!Iruka is rare, but pretty great. 

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice). Only three? Female characters being awesome, and given as much development and recognition as male characters. AUs and fix-it fics that focus on righting wrongs in the shinobi world, Team 7 and re-established bonds. Fewer ship wars, and an end to ridiculous assertions that consensual relationships between adults are somehow immoral if there is a gap in age, though both parties are adults.

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of? “Never Enough” by Aesthetic Perfection, Orochimaru x Science/Ninjutsu. “I’m not satisfied / It’s all or nothing / there’s no peace of mind for me / And even though I try / My greedy heart is hungry / I’m not satisfied, you see.”

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. Fruits Basket, many moons ago. I fell out of step with the storyline after the Akito reveal (which really messed with fan response to a lot of fanfic written well beforehand, including an author I used to beta for) and I never caught up.

When it comes that I’ve been asked if I would ever ship sasu//saku and why I do not, I can narrow it to this, though it’s still long and tedious, bear w me:

• Sakura has potential to go past that now. Her dream as a child was very shallow and simple - she wants Sasuke. A childhood crush based on looks did in fact grow into a love of the actual hurting, silly and torn boy beneath. Once they became friends on team 7 Sasuke wouldn’t be impartial to claiming Sakura as having the best chakra control of the team and is undoubtedly smart and able to realize the genjutsu they were first put within - he says she did so before he even did, a skill set he ultimately admired. When Sakura is being childish and scolding Naruto’s behavior and brings up his parents in a rather cruel way, Sasuke is there to tell her she has no idea what she’s talking about, proceeds to say she “made him sick/she’s annoying.” This inspires Sakura to be more accepting of Naruto - this is one of the many examples of how their friendship has been developing. It’s not about the surface or allure of Sasuke, she is beginning to know him, as he with her. • Sakura sees the evil and hatred coming from Sasuke and hugs him, which calmed him enough to withdraw the mark. This shows me that Sakura has deepened her feelings, it’s not about being a cute, mysterious badass boy that matters - she’s afraid for his well being, his sanity, her composure cracks and she just holds him, overflowing with compassion for him, for him to not lose himself to darkness. Sakura’s feelings are no longer superficial. They are actually quite pure.

• Sasuke tells Sakura he is an avenger, that this life he leads there is no place for her or Naruto in it. This makes Sakura cry and though her words are a little selfish, “I’ll be all alone without you.” She does acknowledge that while she does have family and friends, without Sasuke there too - she feels empty, even offering to give it all up to follow him blindly. While this is devotion, I’ll tell you why it’s selfish:

- A family. She has the very thing Sasuke lost and is easily willing to leave that behind just so she can be with the boy she wants

- Most importantly, she doesn’t seem to care where Sasuke is going and the dangerous circumstances he will throw himself within, she would follow him blindly and mindlessly. That loses the phrase of innocent love, and becomes a concept of greed: she would literally sacrifice her ties of family and friends to allow and willingly follow Sasuke down a dark path.

• In between all that time, Sasuke and Naruto have been morphing between rivals and friends. They admire one another’s abilities, seek out one another as a staple of whom they want to fight and surpass (at this time Itachi is still the main objective driving Sasuke) They train together, bicker and argue. Naruto is never willing to let Sasuke’s attitude pass without some retaliation and he demands his respect and attention nearly constantly. In the land of waves arc, Sasuke “moves without thinking” stating he was intending to make it to the very end, until his older brother was killed but he sacrificed that goal and told Naruto not to die or let his own dream die. Sasuke admires that dream and goal and tenacity that is Naruto, enough that he would die for it. This is when the concept of friendship shifts to love. You do not give up your life and dreams for someone you do not love, consciously or not - Sasuke saw Haku’s intention and thought “Naruto, I HAVE to make it.” The worry, the absolution in his desire to save him is palpable. • This is when Naruto’s seal breaks and he unleashes Kurama for the first time. Signaling the death of Sasuke as more triggering than Mizuki incident and all the collective years of neglect and hate from his own village.

• Now Sasuke has truly begun to see his family in Team 7, he calls them precious to him and that he could not bear to lose them. To watch his loved ones die all over again would be a pain he could not take. He entrusts Sakura to Naruto, because Sakura is unfortunately no match for Gaara in beast mode (which is to no fault of her own as he is way OP but she fought bravely) and is now pinned to a tree, likely to die without Naruto, because of Sasuke’s weakened state and let’s face it, Gaara has the upper hand. Naruto surprises Sasuke and gains a great deal of praise at his ability to create as many shadow clones as he was. Sasuke tells this to Sakura, furthering her tenderness of thought to Naruto.

• When it comes to Naruto attempting to stop Sasuke from leaving the village, the reasoning and intensity of it is much, much different then that of Sakura. Naruto tells Sasuke he can’t allow him to willingly put himself in danger, he can’t allow him to let orochimaru use him as a vessel, he won’t and can’t let Sasuke put himself in harms way. Though Naruto doesn’t want to lose that bond they are forming, his main reasoning is selfless. He simply wants Sasuke to be safe. This is where Sasuke admits to Naruto that he had become his closest friend.

• When they finally meet again after all that time at Orochimaru’s hide out, Sasuke devotes all his attention to Naruto. He is curious about him in particular, how he has grown and developed. He basically tests him but leaves Sakura out of it. Not because he no longer cares for her, but because Naruto after all this time is still his rival, this is where he meets Kurama. • Kurama tells Sasuke that he will regret it if he kills Naruto and that he has the same eyes as Madara (his previous incarnate) Sasuke really doesn’t give a shit at the time and pops Kurama like a bubble. Back to Sakura:

• Sakura becomes a disciple of the fifth Hokage and becomes a medic, she will eventually unlock the 100 healing jutsu and develop a physical strength which rivals that of her sensei, a sannin. Sakura has been gaining depth. She wants to be able to stand by Sasuke and Naruto and not behind them, her dreams are becoming more self realized and interesting.

• Sakura is no longer a fangirl of Sasuke. Her feelings remain but she has grown into them. She has created her own form of fighting, mastered her own strength and yes, is still in love with Sasuke but continuously is at war with herself on what to do. - First, she feels guilt at the idea of putting this enormous task of saving Sasuke on Naruto. She has begun to show real compassion towards him, running in the line of danger just to help him and save him many times over. - Sakura decides to take this burden herself and kill Sasuke with her own hands as to protect Naruto from this burden. - Sakura realizes that she cannot do it, even as Sasuke was about to kill her, she still doesn’t even find it within her to hate him and she cannot muster up the willpower to kill him. • Sakura bears witness to Naruto’s confession. Sakura is astounded and admires Naruto’s conviction and dedication and it literally nearly brings her to tears. Naruto, is there, telling Sasuke that he would bear all this hatred and die with him. • This is also one of the few times Sakura stands up to Sasuke on behalf of Naruto, by saying: “Do you have any idea how much he’s gone through? When everyone else turned on you - Naruto (alone)* wanted to save you, even now.” • Sakura is defending Naruto while ridiculing Sasuke. • Sasuke first loses his composure to Naruto here by shouting at him: ‘why are you so fixated on me?’ Sasuke himself can’t believe Naruto is still this dedicated to making sure Sasuke is safe. I think it’s both a nuisance and an aggravation to Sasuke because he is desperately attempting to severe all his ties. • This is when Naruto reveals that Sasuke has become his goal. No longer is being Hokage the focus point, it’s shifted to saving Sasuke. Kakashi tells Naruto that he shouldn’t worry about Sasuke that he will handle it, and to focus on his dream. Naruto retaliates by saying “How can I be worthy of being Hokage if I can’t save my friend?” The word friend sounds very lacking in the depth of what is behind his words but it is what it is. • It is not until much later that Sasuke reveals that he too felt all the same feelings Naruto had shown him. The admiration, the longing to speak to one another since they first met, the interest, the mutual loneliness and sadness. 1. Evolving this competitive rivalry from a deep desire to connect with one another is not an uncommon facet among people who have trouble conveying feelings, particularly young, troubled boys “You made me feel warm and fuzzy.” - Sasuke to Naruto “Whenever I saw you, I’d get sort of giddy.” - Naruto to Sasuke • During the war Naruto literally broadcasts via Ino how intense he feels about Sasuke “I should have called out to him.” Sakura feels this, her face is one of almost shock/yet also tender. She probably always knew but perhaps did not feel the almost irrational dedication Naruto holds for Sasuke. • Sakura confesses her love again before his fight with Naruto. This drags us almost back to the beginning, where all this inner strength is put aside as she tells Sasuke her feelings/even begins to cry. Now, this isn’t a horrible thing, Sakura is frustrated and knows she cannot physically stop Sasuke, so she tries a case of futility at halting him with her love. Sasuke is, sadly, not phased, uses a harsh genjutsu and proceeds to mock her honest feelings and Kakashi is like “BRUH.” 2. This isn’t the darkness. This is Sasuke. Would he have been so harsh if he had not been in this darkness? Of course not, for he still fundamentally cares for Sakura. Yet he also is not lying either. 3. The whole letting Sakura and Kakashi fall in lava is just another example of his narrow thinking: Naruto was the only one necessary to keep alive, so he essentially said “well sucks for u bye lol.” - this is not a man who is in love. Sorry. • During their final fight Sasuke claims that he has to cut Naruto out of the picture for the only way he can achieve absolute darkness is to live in a world without Naruto - aka to be absolutely consumed by hate, Naruto cannot be there = Naruto is love + I cannot live in total darkness with you alive = you are my light. • At the end, Sasuke apologizes to Sakura, for berating her feelings and attempting to kill her. Sakura, being the girl she is, has probably already forgiven him and would have never needed an apology * it’s also important to note that Sakura never knew the truth about Itachi herself, so how she sees Sasuke’s actions will always be veiled in comparison to Naruto and Kakashi - who DO know the truth. • Sakura, the girl who kept Naruto’s heart beating, got so much growth from that uncertain and shy girl, to this woman with monster strength isn’t negated by the fact she can’t let go of Sasuke, it’s compounded into her personality of being unable to relinquish her feelings for Sasuke at any turn. However, Sasuke has never shown the same type of love in return. It’s been caring, it’s been protective, it’s been harsh…. Sakura deserves someone who will cherish her fully, will encourage her, will put her first. Sasuke deserves to be happy and feel safe. Sasuke needs someone who will not be as submissive as Sakura cannot help but be around Sasuke, to no fault of her own, Sasuke needs a Naruto. Naruto who will give and take his names, his attitude, his temper. Along with being able to relate to what their shared childhoods were like. Naruto matches and meets him where he his, whilst Sasuke seems to be a spot of insecurity and unrequited devotion on Sakura’s part. In other words, unhealthy. • Ino took Sakura’s insecurity and told her not to worry, that she was going to bloom into a beautiful flower, she removed the bangs she wore to hide the forehead she loathed and gave her a red ribbon, which Sakura kept for years. IMO Ino is the perfect match for Sakura - both challenging and yet supportive, loving and playful Sasuke and Naruto are playful too That’s what a beautiful ship is all about. That connection, being bestfriends, being one another’s goals. That is what they were for each other. • I will always love the headcanon of Sakura’s love for Sasuke changing from romantic, to simply just love and them becoming really good friends. I see endless potential in their ability to goof off and make fun of Naruto together. • I want them to be happy P.s Arm wrestling AU where she kicks Sasuke’s ass and Ino cheers on saying “THATS MY GIRLFRIEND.” While Naruto laughs at a sulking Sasuke who honestly should have known better.

Never understood it, never will. D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.None? There’s plenty of ships I’m meh about but I don’t really care if I like them or not. W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.DK if its a trope or not, but any time a female is ignored/killed/bashed simply for ‘being in the way’ of a m/m ship. In the same vein, no matter the ship make up (f/f, m/m, f/m, whatever), when the ‘weaker’ one is made to be girly and the ‘strong’ one is manly. Especially when it makes literally no sense for the characters to be changed in that sense. ’Love triangles’ which aren’t actually triangles. (A likes B who likes C who likes A is a triangle. A having to choose between B and C isn’t.) Actually pretty much most romance tropes since they’re often used in combination with bad writing and a extreme version of characters (see next point). Also, when characters are pretty drastically changed and people are like ‘it’s AU so it’s ok!’. Like, yeah some change is necessary since it’s a different universe with different rules, standards etc, but they still need to be similar to the original character otherwise you might as well have made an OC.It’s more a trend than a trope, but writers refusing to research cultures. I started reading fic back in the early 2000′s. There wasn’t the internet resources to research cultures as in depth as you can now (sure, there were some, but they weren’t as vast or easy to find as they are today). Some shows and manga simple weren’t translated, or trying to find subs and other fan translations/summaries was only possible if you sacrificed your first born. Theres no excuse for it today. (There wasn’t then, either) (It seemed to have got better for a while, but I’ve seen this a lot in the Ass Class fandom, and a few things from the Yugioh and Digimon fandoms too recently)Stop white washing everything by going ‘I don’t understand the culture so I’ll make all my fics set in America’. This IS white washing. It’s also lazy as fuck. Sure, your head canon or fic more than likely isn’t hurting anyone from the cultures those characters are from. But you’re also slowly erasing chances people have to learn in more depth about those cultures, or by saying ‘this is set in Japan’ but not involving Japanese culture, you’re erasing that and saying ‘everything is the same as my culture’. You’re also creating expectations within fandoms (’oh, these people are pretty similar to me!’) but then if they end up visiting, their expectations are dashed. (You aren’t responsible for them not doing research, sure, but you are responsible for your own interpretations and ideas) It creates new stereotypes and when people have been exposed to them instead of the ‘real’ version of that country/religion/race/whatever, some can be stubborn and try to go ‘well, no, I’ve seen all this which contradicts you’ and not see reality. I’m not sure this last point is making sense, but basically, do your research. It’ll help you be a better writer and a more educated human. It ain’t that hard folks.

Astronomy has never been one of his favorite classes. Not that there’s too much to actively dislike compared to other courses offered at Hogwarts. It’s just...odd. And he’s not really sure how he’ll ever use it. What use is there in knowing what planets have what moons, or how often this planet and another line up in their orbits? As far as he knows, none of the branches of magic he’s interested in really require it…

And the schedule is rather inconvenient. Sure, it’s only once a week...but having to meet at midnight means a short night between that and the first class of the following morning. At least most professors of whatever happens to follow tend to take a little pity on the yawning, heavy-lidded students.

Well...expect Orochimaru. Not even Slytherins gain their favor when it comes to having Potions the morning after an Astronomy night.

Still, it’s required for their first five years, so...Sasuke can’t really complain. It’s nothing too difficult. Useless as he finds it, at least it comes naturally enough. Memorizing orbits and what have you just takes diligence and study like anything else.

But their fifth year, what he hopes will be the last time he has to take it, it’s a double class. And to his thankfulness...it’s with the Hufflepuff fifth years.

Mostly he’s glad because, out of any class, he can avoid a few friends that drive him up the wall the most. Much as he likes Naruto and Sakura...he’s not sure his patience could stand them drudging through a class at midnight. Naruto is too loud, and would surely complain obnoxiously the entire time. And Sakura is too much of a know-it-all. She’d be hounding him about every little detail and correcting things that aren’t even wrong, just not done the way she’d like them.

But the Hufflepuff Sasuke is close with - who, arguably, is probably his closest friend of their funny little one-a-house circle - is none of those things. While she’s bright, Hinata isn’t domineering. And she’s quiet as a mouse, which suits him just fine.

Finally, he’ll have someone to take such a dragging class with that might actually make it a little more enjoyable.

So when that first Wednesday approaches, Sasuke makes his way up the many flights of stairs (something to add to his ‘this is why Astronomy is such a pain’ list) and keeps an eye out for a familiar face.

Thankfully, he finds it pretty quick.

By now, they all know to dress warmly. Even if the Autumn days aren’t too chilly yet, the nights are definitely cold. Most wear their robes atop full outfits, and some even drag blankets up with them to ward against the chill air of the open tower. The sky is mostly clear, a few wisps of clouds marring the view for their charts.

“Hinata,” Sasuke greets, approaching as everyone figures out where they’d most like to sit. The professor hasn’t arrived quite yet, giving them time to fuss over positions.

The Hyūga turns, brightening. “Sasuke! I was so glad to see we’d have this c-class together. We don’t have too many doubles with your house this year, seems like.”

“Yeah. It’ll be even worse next year when OWLs start narrowing things down for NEWTs.”

“I guess you’re right...well, we’ll just have to make the most of it!”

“Right.”

“Got anywhere you want to sit?”

Though his expression remains blank, Sasuke feels a small giddiness at her assuming they’ll sit together. “Doesn’t matter much to me - it’s a fairly starry night, doubt we’ll have any trouble no matter where we end up.”

“True...I’m glad it’s not too cloudy. That would be such a bummer for the first class…” With that, she starts leading the way for a spot, finding one along the outside where they can rest their backs. “This should work. Though I guess it depends a bit on where, um...where we end up needing to look.”

“Should be fine.”

They settle atop proffered cushions to keep their backsides off the cold stone of the top of the tower, idly looking over the horizon.

“I might not really need this class, but...I have to admit, it’s always just...nice being up here,” Hinata muses. “I love seeing the sky at night.”

“Yeah…”

“Though I guess it’s a bit nicer from the dorm windows. Not nearly so cold!”

Sasuke looks for a moment longer before offering, “Ours don’t have a view of the sky.”

“...oh! I forgot - they’re in the dungeon…”

“Yeah, but we do have a pretty wicked view into the lake.”

“Into the…?”

He gives her a glance. “...common room has a huge window under the water. You see all manner of things swim by, even the mermaids.”

Hinata’s eyes go round. “Oh...I would love to see it…”

“Maybe I’ll sneak you in sometime.”

“Oh, but...isn’t it rather s-strict, the etiquette about visiting other dorms…?”

“Eh, I don’t care. And no one’s about to give me any trouble.”

“Still…”

“It’d just be for a bit. I’ll sneak you one of my robes and ties so you look like a Slytherin. By the time anyone notices, you’ll already be gone.”

She still looks unsure, clearly not fond of the idea of getting in trouble. “Well...I’ll think about it. For now, we better focus on class…”

It’s only a few moments later the professor arrives, asking if they’ve all remembered their blank charts and telescopes. When everyone affirms as much, they begin.

Side by side, Hinata and Sasuke switch between views through their scopes, watching the professor, and jotting down notes or alignments in their charts. Breath plumes in the air as the night only gets colder, the stars above them offering little in the way of heat.

Shivering, Hinata sighs. “I really need to invest in some g-gloves...my hands are cold…!”

Sasuke gives her a glance. “Put them under the blanket for a bit?”

“Then I can’t write!”

“I’ll do it for a minute - warm up.”

“But -?”

“It’s fine. Not like you can’t copy off me anyway, I’m not about to mind,” he insists, snatching her parment and making identical marks on her chart and in her notes.

She hesitates for a moment...but eventually does as asked, huddling up a bit and trying to get warm.

Sasuke does double duty for a time, which isn’t too hard given it’s just copies of the same information. Glancing between his work and hers to ensure he doesn’t miss anything, there’s a pause as Hinata shivers again. “...still cold?”

“Y-yeah…”

“Get closer.”

“....I-I -?”

“I’m not cold - maybe that’ll warm you a little. Come on.” He juggles their stuff, lifting the hem of the blanket she bought to let her scooch over. Only once she’s tucked up shyly beside him does he let the excess rest over his legs, resettling and finding where he left off.

Hinata, in the meantime, gives him many a sheepish glance. Sure, they sit side by side all the time, but...never this close.

...he really is warm…

Tense for a few minutes, she eventually relaxes, even daring to lean into him a bit. Either he doesn’t notice, or doesn’t mind - but knowing Sasuke, it’s likely the latter.

“...still cold?”

“Huh? Oh...no…?”

“Your cheeks are pink.”

Hinata blanches just a bit. “I…I’m fine. Really. Just, um...I’m fine.”

A dark brow perks, but he doesn’t question her. “How are you hands?”

“Good. I can write for a while. Thank you.”

“Sure.”

They work diligently together until the block is over, and the professor dismisses them. Being a bit far from the door, they just sit and wait for the crowds to thin before attempting to get up.

“Why is it only now that I’m finally warm that we have to leave?” Hinata sighs.

“Well, if we had my invisibility cloak, we could stay.”

That earns him a questioning glance.

“Y’know, tuck out of sight.”

“...you’d want to stay?”

“Well...like you say, we’re already here. And it’d be nice when it’s quiet and no one else is around, right?”

A slight flutter is born in Hinata’s chest. “R...right. I guess it would be.”

“I don’t get this view too often. It’s bright in London at night.”

“Oh...that’s a good point...well, maybe next time you can bring it, and um...w-we’ll stay for a bit. If...if you want.”

Sasuke shrugs. “Sure. ‘Course then we’d have to make it back to the dorms without getting caught out of bed after hours...but I guess we’ll just have to take you to the ‘puff dorm, and then I’d head back to the dungeons.”

“I’ve never been caught out of the dorms at night before…”

“Really?”

“No.”

“Never snuck out to meet someone?”

Hinata’s face alights pink. “N-no!” A pause, and then, “...have you?”

“Not to meet someone, no...but I’ve skirted a few rules for stuff before.”

“Oh...right…” She glances aside, still warm in the cheeks. “...I guess...that’s probably what people would assume, if...if we were caught.”

“...probably.”

The pair sheepishly meet eyes for a moment.

“...guess we’ll just have to not get caught, right?”

“...right.”

By now, the tower top is nearly empty, and they have little excuse left to stay. There’s a strained pause, and then the two make it to their feet, gathering up their things and heading down the stairs.

“So...should I bring the cloak?”

Hinata stutters a step or two at the bottom. “You...you were serious?”

“Well, sure. Sounded like you wanted to, so…”

She blinks, taken aback. “I...I guess you...could…?” Just because he does, doesn’t mean they have to use it. They can change their minds. Or...they might not... “Um...s-sure.”

“All right. Night, Hinata.”

“Goodnight, Sasuke.” Turning to catch up with her classmates for the walk back to the Hufflepuff dorms, she gives a glance over her shoulder. Even now, there’s a small churning in her belly at the thought.

...best to ignore it.

She’ll admit...it’s a little strange coming back here now. Hinata’s first visit to the capital of the Fire Nation had been during the Day of Black Sun - the solar eclipse that had been the allies’ hope to finally bring an end to the Hundred Year War. A day when, without the sun, the firebenders were to be completely powerless. But the plan went horribly awry thanks to leaked information...and the Avatar’s group was forced to flee and leave the rest of the invasion behind.

The only successes had been the freedom of Omashu, and the final straw in the change of heart within Sasuke.

Her second (and until now, final) visit to the city had been during the passing of Madara’s Comet. While Naruto faced the Fire Lord, Sasuke went to try and finally bring reason to his older brother. Though there had been the beginnings of a duel, Sasuke’s own revelation had been enough to overcome the last shreds of Itachi’s doubt...and they’d reached a peaceful resolution. With Naruto’s defeat of Fugaku, there had been an end to the war at last.

And from there? Years and years of diplomatic reparations, finding balance, and keeping every member of Team Avatar busy enough that visits between them have been few and far between.

Hinata herself has been using the time since the end of the war attempting to undo the damage done by the Fire Nation against the Southern Water tribes. The scattered remnants had been united, and the stolen waterbenders returned to the south. Reuniting them with family hadn’t been easy...and comforting both sides had taken its toll. Both prisoners and those who remained had to face losses: captives that had died during the war, and vice versa. Many no longer had homes to return to once it was all over.

The port where the prior prisoners were released turned into a makeshift refugee camp in their own territory. Shelters were built, resources stockpiled, and displaced tribesmen kept until new paths could be made. At first unintended, it turned into a hub that eventually grew into a city. Though many tribes, once steady, returned to their various homes...some, especially those without family or homes to return to, remained and helped the new city thrive.

Only now that things have begun to settle has Hinata found any time to leave the south. Given her connections with the Avatar, and the personal growth she obtained during her months fighting, it was she without question who was looked to - and is still looked to - for guidance in the south. But...she’s earned a much-deserved break, and has agreed to meet a few of the others in the Fire Nation to just...see one another.

Kiba decides to remain to handle the mantle in her place. The one nonbender of the group, he now leads the Southern Water tribe army. There’s no one else Hinata would entrust their progress to in her absence. He’ll be missed during their get-together, but he insists she deserves the break more than he. Hinata had been unable to argue otherwise, and so, rides on a ship to the island country alone.

Passing the gates that guard the bay, Hinata can’t help but look to them somberly. Much has changed these past few years...herself among them. And given how little she’s seen of her friends since the war’s end, she can only assume their metamorphoses will be just as apparent.

As the ship docks and she makes her way topside to disembark, Hinata can’t help a pause. Rather than a small escort to take her to the palace, the second prince is here himself to greet her.

Sasuke, flanked only by two guards, looks so...different.

Having been previously weighed by his father’s expectations, his own duality, and the struggles he faced, he now looks so much...lighter. Gone is the constant furrow to his brow, or the shadows in his eyes. True, some linger under them from exhaustion, but none of them are afforded much time to rest, even now. He just seems...more relaxed. Calm.

Happier.

In fact, he affords her a genuine - albeit tired - smile as she makes her way down to the dock. “Hinata,” he greets with a small bow. “It’s good to see you. Were the seas calm for your voyage…?”

Still a bit taken aback, Hinata blinks before smiling in turn. “They were. It was a pleasant trip. But I’m glad to be back on land for the time being.”

“And here I thought a waterbender could never tire of water.”

That earns a light laugh. “Water, no...bobbing and dipping in a ship, maybe. Has anyone else arrived yet…?”

“No, not yet. And Kiba isn’t with you, right?”

“No, he’s keeping an eye on things while I’m gone. Developments in the south are still very...ongoing.”

Sasuke nods, expression tingeing a bit gravely for a moment. “I understand...I’ve heard bits and pieces about what’s been going on down there. You’re doing amazing work.”

Her head ducks, humble at the praise. “It’s what needs to be done. And I’m happy to do it. Seeing my people come back from the hardships they suffered gives me hope. We’ve always been a tough people, but this has been our g-greatest test.”

For a moment, something passes over Sasuke’s face. But before she can question it, he gestures. “Well, for now, I suppose we’ll make our way up to the palace. You haven’t seen it since the repairs, have you?”

“No...this is my first trip back since the end of the war, and Itachi’s coronation.”

Surprise pulls at his features. “...has it really been that long?”

“It has,” she replies with a weary smile. “Time sure has flown, hasn’t it?”

“...yeah. Guess being so caught up will do that to you. One moment you’re just starting a new month...the next, you turn around and three have passed. There’s hardly been a dull moment since the war ended.”

A nod. “All I can hope is that it slows a bit soon. It would be nice to enjoy the labor we’ve been giving for so long. Just for a bit.”

“It would.” With her agreement, Sasuke leads Hinata toward the palace. “I can’t wait to see everyone...Naruto’s efforts in the Earth Kingdom were the last time I saw him, trying to sort out the Fire Nation occupants.”

“Was that ever resolved…?”

“Yes...and we’re working on plans to make it even better. But we can talk about that when he’s here to chime in. I think he’s got a better handle on it than I do, honestly. I’ve been more focused on aiding Itachi here as of late.”

Light small talk fills the air during their trek to the central building, and Hinata can’t help but wonder at the sheer size of it. It and the Earth Palace always make her feel so small. Nothing has ever compared to her little southern village.

“We can wait in the gardens for a while - I’ll have some tea brought out.”

Snapped from her reverie as Sasuke speaks, Hinata reflexively smiles. “That sounds great. I haven’t seen the gardens yet.”

“It’s honestly my favorite part of the entire palace. My mother and I spent a lot of time here before she...left.”

The pause earns a glance, but Hinata doesn’t press the subject.

They pass through only a few hallways before making their way into the gardens...and Hinata can’t help but stare. It’s...beautiful! Green, lush, and filled with ponds and fountains. After a lifetime in the snow and ice, plantlife and even grass still fill her with excitement. “They’re amazing…!”

“Let me show you the best part.” Approaching a pond, Sasuke takes a knee, seeming to...look for something.

Unsure what his intent is, Hinata does the same.

“...there!” Pointing, he gestures to a patch of reeds along the other end. From them...emerge several little creatures Hinata has never seen before.

Her eyes go wide. “They’re so cute…! What are they?”

“Turtleducks.”

“Turtle…?”

“Ducks. See, they have a shell, like the great lion turtles,” Sasuke explains. “Just...a lot smaller, and a lot fluffier.”

“I love them already…” Hinata murmurs, watching as they swim their way a bit closer, quacking softly. A few turtleducklings make their way to the bank, and she gently brushes a finger over one’s head.

Beside her, watching from the corner of his eye, Sasuke can’t help a hint of a smile.

“I wish we had these back home...but I think it’s likely far too cold.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right. But I guess that gives you a reason to visit, huh?”

Looking up, Hinata simply replies, “I already have a reason.”

Sasuke can’t help a blink of surprise, the bridge of his nose alighting a soft pink just as a courier steps into garden with a bow.

“Prince Sasuke, the Avatar and the earthbender will be here soon - word has been sent ahead with a...lemur of sorts.”

Moment broken, the pair glance up. “Thank you,” the Uchiha replies. “We’ll get ready to meet them.”

“Well, there goes the peace and quiet,” Hinata observes with a light laugh behind a hand.

“True...but it’ll be good to see them.”

“Mhm. But...maybe we’ll avoid showing them the turtleducks. I’m not sure the little things will appreciate the noise.”

Sasuke can’t help a humorous scoff. “...you have a point. We’ll visit them again later, when the others are busy.”

Just the two of us.

     Hi so this is technically yesterday's entry...I'm sorry it's late but I was gone LITERALLY all day and was pooped when I got home real late, so...this is me finally getting it done ;w; Sorry about the wait, loves~      But anyway! Back to the AtLA crossover...which I'm still not 100% satisfied with. Sasuke just makes so much more sense to fit Azula's role, but...I want him to be Zuko. And Itachi just does NOT fit her role AT ALL, so...hence me not being 100% sure what to do with the epic sibling battle. Whoops, lol - but that's not the focus! Turtleducks are by far (imo) the cutest AtLA fusion animal. Just...I love them. And now Hinata does too.      Anywho, I still need to do today's prompt - that'll be later! For now I've gotta run and get other stuff done, but thanks for reading!

The worst part about his job? The business trips.

It doesn’t matter how fancy the hotel, how grand the destination, how appealing the attractions of the local area while he’s there.

Because all Sasuke can think about while he’s gone is what he left behind.

He’s only been married for six months now. But that doesn’t mean he misses Hinata any less ardently whenever his father sends him out on these escapades. At least Fugaku gave him some leeway when they were first married: two months without a single excursion from his new wife.

But...work is work, and he couldn’t avoid them forever.

Itachi, of course, is much in the same boat. Fugaku keeps him just as busy, if not more so given his lined up future role as CEO after their father. Add in the fact he’s already got a child, and he’s run ragged...and just as homesick whenever he’s far from home.

This time, they have a rare duo outing. From their home city of Nagoya, they’re to fly to Los Angeles for a new trade deal Fugaku’s got planned. It must be a massive one if he’s sending both brothers.

Packing up his suitcase the day before, Sasuke does his best to look at the bright side. If this deal goes through, both he and his brother have been promised a rather sizeable bonus. Something Sasuke can’t really say no to. After all, the pair are doing their best to save up to leave their (admittedly very nice) apartment for something a bit more…homey. An actual house, to be exact.

Because eventually, they’d like to have a kid or two. Granted, not for a couple of years yet (or so they plan), but it’s never a bad thing to put some money away in the rainy day fund.

...not that either Uchiha brother is underpaid by any means. But, semantics.

Happening to be home from work herself, Hinata’s been helping out with preparations: mostly in regards to making sure all the laundry was done that morning for him to cram into the space he’s allotted in his suitcase. Also helping to round up all his tech he’ll need: laptops, thumb drives, cell phones, and a ridiculous amount of cables and cords. He’s got a rather important presentation to give, after all.

Hence having five copies of it.

Hey, he’s a guy that likes to be prepared.

He even gave one to Itachi to hang onto.

“Okay, here’s the last of it.”

Turning from his position alongside the bed where he’s perched his gear, Sasuke sees Hinata haul in the laundry basket full of newly-folded clothes. “Thanks.”

“I think I might make some lunch - anything sound good?”

“Just something light - I don’t want to risk having an upset stomach on a flight that long.”

Smiling behind a hand, Hinata nods, retreating to do just that.

As she goes, Sasuke’s movements slow, watching her go. He’s going to be gone for nearly two weeks. Granted, most overseas trips are on the longer side. They try to cover more during their opportunity to meet in person, after all. But that means even longer without being home. Without home-cooked meals, a warm body to sleep next to, company to relax with.

Sure, he loves his brother...but his brother’s not a wife. Besides, Fugaku went overboard and got them each their own room.

He’s the type to flaunt.

Mood a bit melancholy, Sasuke finishes up the clothes portion of his packing and decides to save all his gadgets for later. For now, he wants to soak up some wife time before they call it a night. His flight is in the morning, so this is really his last chance until he gets back.

Juggling a few things in the apartment’s kitchen, Hinata glances up at the movement, giving a soft smile. “Taking a break?”

“More like procrastinating.”

Sympathy tinges her expression. “I’m sure it will go quickly.”

“They never go quickly.”

Hinata’s expression then falls to a flat pout. “...I’m trying to be optimistic!”

“I know. And I love that about you.” Coming up behind her, Sasuke just...plunks his chin atop the crown of her head, leaning ever so slightly as she works at the stove. “You’re the sunshine to my clouds.”

That earns him a soft snort. “And you’re the cheese to my crackers - w-what was that line?”

“Me being out of sorts because I’m going to miss you so badly.”

“At least you get to see your brother for a while, right? You two never have any time, since you’re both so busy…”

“...I guess.” In truth, they’ll likely have little downtime to enjoy that time together. But he’s already being a sourpuss, so...he’ll leave that part out. For Hinata’s sake.

They indulge in lunch before Sasuke gets back to packing, making sure he’s got every doodad and thingamabob he’ll need to make this trip work in the tech department. By early afternoon he’s pretty sure he’s got everything stuffed into the case, and he leaves it by the door for a quick exit tomorrow morning.

But for now...it’s lounging time.

They pop in a movie to waste a bit of time, snuggled up on the couch and mostly just zoning out. Or...Sasuke is. Hinata actually looks pretty invested. But she’s always been rather easy to entertain. Which is good. Because Sasuke often lacks a sense of humor that’s not flat and dry, so even he can still make her laugh.

A miracle, really.

By the time the movie ends, it’s time for dinner, which they prepare together now that Sasuke isn’t otherwise preoccupied. Instead, he handles the more mundane parts (the ones Hinata trusts him with) while she does...pretty much everything else.

It’s not that he’s a bad cook, he just...has an aptitude for fire. Even when...there shouldn’t be any fire. Which is why he’s not allowed near anything remotely warm.

Even the microwave is an iffy subject.

From there, Sasuke decides to double check his stuff. Because he will not be happy if he gets all the way to Los Angeles and realizes something is missing. A cord, sure - he can buy a new one. Same with clothes. But some things are rather irreplaceable.

Watching from the couch, curled up with a mug of tea, Hinata lets herself be amused. “Got it all?” she calls once he zips the bag closed for what probably won’t be the last time.

“Think so.”

“It’s a wonder you ever manage to leave for these t-trips with all your fussing,” she can’t help but tease, leaning her head on his shoulder innocently as he plops beside her.

“Not sure my father would consider that an acceptable excuse for missing a flight.”

“Probably not.”

Hinata then starts up knitting, Sasuke leafing through a magazine. He hates how...idle they get when they’re just waiting for him to leave. It feels like they should be doing...more. But what more is there to do?

Besides, well...the obvious. But he’s a little stressed for that. At least, he tells himself, they’re spending time together. Besides, neither of them are particularly...active. In the sense they don’t need to be doing something to enjoy themselves. Companionable quiet is their specialty.

So maybe this is the best way to spend his evening.

“...think we should get to bed? Don’t want to be groggy at the airport.”

“Yeah...I guess so.” He doesn’t want to sleep - sleeping will bring tomorrow all the faster! But in the end he has little choice - there’s no way in hell he’s pulling an all nighter.

Once they’re tucked into bed, he latches onto her with a sigh. “...I hate this.”

A hand brushes his hair consolingly. “I know...me too.” But this is what his job entails. It’s either suck it up, or probably lose speaking privileges with his father if he quits. “You can call me any time.”

“Time zones, Hinata.”

“I don’t care. Any time means any time. If I don’t answer, just...text me instead. I’ll write back when I can, o-okay?”

A nod against her hair.

“...I’m turning out the light now.”

“Okay.”

“You need to sleep now.”

Silence. And then, “...okay.”

Once it’s dark, she shimmies in his grip to give his brow a kiss. “...wake me before you go. I want to see you off.”

“Will do.” Returning the gesture, he holds it a long moment, as though to make it easier to recall once he’s alone. “...night, ‘nata.”

“Goodnight, Sasuke.”

     An entry this early? What witchcraft is this?! xD ("early" being a very relative term, given it's still after midnight lol)      Admittedly, I've been feeling rather burnt out lately...but that's probably mostly because I have another big project going on: I'm hosting a ship week here on Tumblr! One focusing on OCs paired with canons, lol - and I'm not only hosting, but also participating, so I've been TRYING to get mine done in advanced. It starts Saturday, and I have 3/7 entries done...whoops. But at least 4 is halfway done. Might poke at it a bit more tonight.      BUT ANYWAY, if you notice things are a bit...shorter or seem a bit more rushed for the next ten days or so, that's probably why! Sorry ;;;      As for this piece, it's Sauce being a lil prematurely homesick in modern. Not connected to any other pieces, just...random fluff, lol - I think he's the sort to be lowkey clingy.
