today's been a hard day scrolling through smoshblr, and i need to ask y'all honestly how to navigate it all. i'm gonna bullet point my thoughts.

dani saying that she was not valued at her most recent job (which is smosh because her linkedin says she left march 2024) because her mentors/superiors were eager to help her grow until her growth became a threat. so she faced an unpleasant and unsupportive work environment at smosh, a common phenomenon faced by plenty of black women and other woc in entertainment and in LA (source here)

kimmy announced she officially isn't a part of smosh anymore. didn't want to "spill tea" (which dani didn't intend to either, they just both want to be transparent about career changes). kimmy is also a woc who moved from cast to crew, despite still expressing that she wanted to be on camera. curious, huh?

today's smosh games video with noah and olivia. noah has been talked about quite a bit on smoshblr already for his zionist views. (source here)

learned olivia posted a pro-israel story back in oct, but i read the replies on the post and it says that she also has posted about a ceasefire in gaza, but i haven't seen screenshots of it yet (not saying that it's like "pics or it didn't happen" though). reading through the replies say that tommy and amanda (oof, this one hurts) also posted similar things on oct 7. hoping they've educated themselves and understand why we need to continue calling for a ceasefire and supporting palestine to end the genocide in gaza. olivia parked in a handicap spot and claimed she didn't know? i didn't watch the who meme'd it when it was uploaded, but it caused many fans to be upset at olivia for it. (source here)

damien, angela, and mallory are the only three i've seen say anything in support of palestine. damien said talked about it on twitch, angela tweeted about it, and mallory posted stories about aaron bushnell. (if anyone has the screenshots/sources, please leave them in the replies!)

i need to clearly state that i don't mean to bring any of this up as a way to bash smosh. as this blog will tell you, i'm a huge fan and have been for almost a decade. but with every passing day, it honestly becomes harder and harder to stay a fan. yet, it's equally as hard to let go of something that has provided me so much comfort (and probably saved me many times over).

where do we as a community go from here? guess i'm just feeling a little lost right now.

again, none of this is meant to be hateful towards anyone. especially because we don't know who they are in their real lives. we only see their public personas.

and to anyone who is confused as to why we as fans should hold smosh accountable for these instances, they are a company with a massive following. they have influence and the things they say and bring attention to reached millions of people. but beyond that, there are people involved. people getting the short end of the stick, getting hurt, for the benefit of a few.

i hope this all made sense. and wow, it's a long ass post. as always, i really appreciate the other blogs on here for being willing to talk about these things. it makes me feel much less alone in my confusion.

please keep all discussions peaceful. absolutely no hate towards anyone will be tolerated.

Every day, I get more and more embarrassed to say that I enjoy Helluva Boss (despite the many MANY flaws) and that I'm excited for Hazbin Hotel.

I've been following both of these projects since the pilots were released and I've happily keeping up with all the new episodes of Helluva and with all the Hazbin announcements.

But of course, because of the nature of both projects, the humor, the artsyle, the release nature, the pilots being released on YouTube, it attracted a HUGE audience who think they're entitled to do and say anything they want. Not to mention how many vitriolic haters it attracted too.

You can't defend the new cast without people loosing their shit over how the new cast "doesn't fit the characters like the pilot cast". People can't defend the new cast without putting down the pilot cast either as seen with people bashing Michael Kovach for being a bad singer when that isn't objectively true.

We can't go one week with some Vivziepop anti on Twitter pulling false accusations out of their ass trying to bash Vivenne Medrano for being a horrible witch who doesn't pay her team.

You can't criticize ANYTHING Vivienne Medrano does or any aspect of her shows without a legion of diehard stans who defend her every move and every writing decision made even tho the writing in Helluva Boss is objectively a mess.

The closer Hazbin gets to its release date the more rapidly people spew out hate from BOTH SIDES and its ruining the experience for those of us who just want to have a good time.

This is like the Voltron fandom but worse and Hazbin hasn't even been fucking released yet. I'm ready to just watch the show and stay in my lane without interacting with the fandom because this shit is exhausting. I've never seen so much drama over a show that hasn't EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET. I wanted to get Hazbin merch but now I don't want to cause I don't wanna be associated with the mountains of shit both the fandom and the hatedom continue to cause.

Fuck this. I was excited for Hazbin's release and now I'm honestly dreading it. So much for faithfully following the series for like 5 years.

PMATGA Headcanons: Surnames

This thing has been a headscratcher for as long as I have been a fan of the show. Or it might be just me-

But I've always struggled to imagine what some of the characters' surnames/last names could be. Especially the main trio. Mostly because it's tricky to come up with surnames that would fit them, and something in line with the show's running theme of naming things after geometry or character-specific quirks.

We know that Stratos' last name is Spheros (derived from stratosphere) and thus it's also Betrayus' surname. We know of Mr Strictler, who only revealed his surname and never his first name, so we can deduce that Sherry's last name is Strictler (she's his daughter). Then there's Mr Dome, Ms Globular, Sir Cumference, etc. But other than these characters, we never really heard of any other surnames mentioned in the show.

There is Spheria Suprema, and hey it could be probable that that is her surname, but I'm leaning a bit more towards the idea that it's her celebrity name/Pac-Pong champion title/nickname rather than her actual given surname. The chances of Spheria being given a name that rhymes with a descriptive title such as 'Suprema' at birth is a little slim if you ask me (this is just my rationalisation, don't come at me xD)

So that leaves us with the rest of the cast. I've seen some really creative attempts from the fandom to give the characters their surnames. So much so that I can't really come up with any good ones in comparison xD

But hey, these are the best I could come up with, along with some headcanons or reasons for why I chose them. Subject to change!

Pac Orbon (Yellow Orbs, duh...)

Cylindria Eden (based on the Garden of Eden, and sounds hippy-ish)

Spiral Logarith (based on the logarithmic spiral in math)

Elliptica Spheros (her mother kept her last name)

Sir Perimet Cumference (his first name is based on perimeter (of a circle), which can be shortened to 'Peri' but he still prefers 'Sir C')

Trayus Rotundin Spheros (he changed it to Betrayus Sneakerous Spheros as part of his rebellion-turned-revolt)

Zac Orbon (again, yellow orbs...)

Sunny Orbon (maiden name was Sunny Solari - a play on sol and solar, from the sun - which is also round and yellow)

Spheria Solari (tends to go by Spheria Suprema, her celebrity name, since that's what many people know her as)

Specter Eidolon (greek for 'idol' or 'phantom')

Blinky "Shadow" Scarlos (based on 'scarlet')

Inky "Bashful" Whimson (based on 'whimsical')

Pinky "Speedy" Chacier (Old French for "chase/hunt")

Clyde "Pokey" Oren (just based on orange, but can also have different meanings depending on the language)

[The Ghost Gang's names are a combination of lore that I've found relating to the original Pac-Man games. For example, Inky's original name in the retro games was Bashful, and his Japanese name is kimagure, which means 'whimsical', hence Whimson.]

donmar final update, signing off: in the matinee queue they didn't let anyone in and everyone was super super bummed and morale was very low and the line was the longest I've ever seen it. it had like 40 people at least. the earliest folks got there at 5 AM and they were so scared that they wouldn't get into the night shows since this is the very last chance. finally 630 rolls arounf and an employee comes down the line and was like asking a bunch of people you know like are you alone are you alone or you here as a group and pretty much everyone was there alone and everyone said so and he was like smiling and went back inside. very mysterious. and then over the next hour they just kept letting us in very very small portions and at one point remember I was first in line finally, and I felt like nauseous cause this was like 725 and the show was at 7:30 and I genuinely thought I was going to fall over I felt nauseous I felt sick and then they let me in and I about screamed. they let like 15 people in by the end, probably more! I'm not sure. I was eighth in line by the time the queue started getting tickets we all thought that they were like conspiring against us because they hated us but actually in hindsight after so fucking many of us got in we think that they were actually conspiring to get us in it was really really exciting. it was the Best show that I've seen out of the three that I went to they definitely were putting their all into it you could tell a lot of the people who had to yell didn't care about preserving their voices anymore and so they went ham, during bows cush leaned over and got some blood on her fingers and then wiped it on her cheeks like war paint was so cute and then she was hyping david up as well during the bows and he was like really bashful about it and all of them looked so happy and EVERYONE in the theater did a standing ovation for the first time that I've ever seen I was so so happy all of the cast looked so so so happy. everyone I met had a wonderful time and some of us went to Tesco afterwards for dinner and said our final good yes after being queue homies for several days. i have to be on a bus to a plane in like thirty min so goodbye and godspeed. goodnight to the donmar

Ok. Now, for that already know what knows what happens in Part 2, Abby kills Joel in a very horrific manner. Not rehashing it, nor do I really want to turn this into another Abby bashing post. Not my favorite character, but I don't outright hate her, and won't tolerate that shit right now. Time and places, people.

I am concerned because of the absolute hate STILL felt for the character, that it will seep over to the actor in full force, much like it did for LB. Many can't seem to be able to separate the actor and character from each other. They still body shame Abby to no end. I've already seen a bunch of comments where they began body shamming the live action actor before she was even cast.

The misogynistic idiots can be ignored to a degree. But what really worries me are the Pedro fans, similar to the Joel fans, are gonna be so pissed when they see Abby kill Joel. And they didn't know it was coming. Some people can remain oblivious, somehow, in this day and age. How feral are they gonna be? How reactionary are they gonna be? Are they gonna be able to separate the actor from the character? And, more importantly, are the rest of us Pedro fans gonna be mature enough to help guide them to a safe place to get their emotions out where it won't be a complete nightmare for KD AND Pedro?!

Because, c'mon, you can't tell me, that when Pedro sees any fan of his hurt anyone that it doesn't hurt him? The big smush pillow that he is? I see so many people passing around videos and memes about how they're not responsible for your reactions to their actions. That may be so, but you do need to be held accountable if those actions are causing harm. A point that is sorely missed those. The Pedro Fandom is overall protective of our Pedro.

So, I want to kindly ask the Fandom, with love, that when we see this shit happening, and especially when it happens when the show airs, (picture lots of mom/grandma finger pointing here, because that's me), to be nice, be mature, ask them to remember what our Squish Pillow would do (even if he is more chiseled and less squishy right now 😉)? Are we adding to his anxiety? We don't need to do that. The man has more than enough for all of us and don't need no more. Nor does he need another fucking excuse to shrink more away from social media!

Besides, I don't know Kaitlyn Dever. I've never heard of her. I look forward to learning more about her, and seeing what she brings to Abby. Do she and Craig make me see what Neil wanted me to all along? Or is it the same old? But I know this. I won't hate her. She's a human being. Very few things on this planet could make me hate her, and her playing Abby is not one of them.

Something that really bothers me about the rose coloured glasses vis a vis tellius and fe fans (ESPECIALLY from 3h fans who learned about tellius later) is that many like soren purely because of his main ship (i mean i like ikesoren too but come the fuck on) and jokingly characterise soren as a stereotypical nasty mean limp wristed sarcastic gay man instead of a deeply flawed branded angry at the world and definitely trauma bonded to ike, but micaiah is still absolutely getting raked over the coals over the blood pact and not being ike’s fangirl

Well,

Jokes often involve flanderisation, so Soren being flanderised to oblivion when people joke about him isn't something I really care about, but maybe that's because I'm not really fond of Soren to begin with lol

What annoys me more is when some people try to rationalise Soren's anger and backstory by either pointing at Almedha or Deghinsea being responsible for everything, and I'm like, what.the.fuck?

Almedha's just, idk, I won't call it sexism, but damn - that woman loves her son who is the only reason why she hasn't completely lost her mind over 1/losing her powers 2/being casted away like trash by her "BF" 3/being rejected by her dad 4/thinking her brother was tortured and abused to death because of her actions 5/being separated from her beloved child.

Deghinsea being "uwu bad bcs he's the reason why brandeds are rejected by both beorcs and laguz" is another take I really am not fond of, and iirc I wrote a post earlier this year about it? But to some people who buy the "Crusts BaD" as the reason why Fodlan sucks, I guess they need to have someone to name and pill all of the world's nonsense rather than, well, in Tellius' case, realise that the worldbulding and the lore really sucks, to the point where the duology touted as the most "against racism" of the franchise, is pretty much way more racist than anything Tru Piss can throw us (yes, because in Tru Piss we have characters rejecting coexistence, in Tellius, it's the world mechanics - whenever a Beorc and a Laguz coexist too much, the Laguz dies...).

As for Miccy,

Just like, imo, Soren gains some "new" attention and "uwu excuses for why he's being a snarky jerk at times", Miccy used to be bashed when FE10 was released (with all the Mary Sue accusation being thrown around!) because she was written to be a sort of foil/antagonist to Ike, and when the party reunited, she was demoted to a "soul-jar" role, let it be regarding the greater plot, or, even, her own backstory!

TBH, for people who didn't play FE10, if Ike is the bestest thing since melted cheese, Miccy, who opposes him, must be BaD and so you can pile everything you don't like on her, hoping to see it stick.

Or even worse, I've seen posts here and there comparing Miccy to Supreme Leader and how misunderstood uwu she is, which is the worst insult poor Miccy ever received since FE10 came out rofl

That Sonia/Hiyoko art you reblogged got me thinking. I've always had a soft spot for this ship, but it's not that popular at all, and even the content that talks about it seems to miss what I think is a really big part of the ship: Hiyoko mentioning Sonia in her FTEs. In her FTEs, she is literally so pressed by Sonia's existence, Sonia just... gets under her skin. I think this is in part because she's jealous of her, and also because Sonia makes her feel things she doesn't want to feel. I think the only reason she mentions her dislike of Sonia in her FTEs is and not outside of them because she knows Sonia is well liked and bashing her wouldn't be as well recieved as say, bashing Mikan or Kazuichi or Nagito (rip to them, but mostly Mikan, I'm sorry girl you did nothing to deserve Hiyoko bashing you so much), so she only does so in her final(? If I remember right) FTE after building up rapport with/trust in Hajime. (Which is also sweet—Hajime makes her feel safe. They are like siblings 2 me. 2 Me.)

All this to say, imo, the ideal Hiyoko/Sonia dynamic is Hiyoko anonymously sending a note to Sonia that says "get out of my school" because she can't deal with her Feelings about her.

(Tbh, I also thing this is a good alternative to Mikan/Hiyoko for people who want a "get out of my school" dynamic since it has a lot of the broad appeal points with the added bonus that Hiyoko never actually bullied Sonia—or at least not as viciously as she bullied Mikan. Not to say I don't like Hiyoko/Mikan, the two definitely have their appeal, but I'm just saying that people who may want a similar dynamic of "one sided enemies to lovers" but don't necessarily want the baggage that comes with Hiyoko's targeting of Mikan may find Sonia/Hiyoko to have appeal to them as an alternative.)

But yeah, honestly I'm not sure why the ship isn't more popular. It could partially be because they don't interact much outside of bonus scenes, but we DO get that scene with Sonia suggesting the mirror to Hiyoko which is very sweet of her, even if the suggestion did... turn out badly. And we also get Hiyoko talking about Sonia in her FTEs, something that is sort of rare for FTEs. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a romantic exploration of the two, I'd just like more content exploring their dynamic.

This is a GREAT look at the appeal of Soniyoko!! In general, Hiyoko kind of suffers in shipping material, both because of the semi-popular belief that she is Actually Genuinely Younger Than The Rest Of The SDR2 Cast And It's Problematic To Ship Them (I obviously don't subscribe to this) and because people just don't like her. But there's so many great ones.

Not to be on my bullshit but I'm actually going to take this chance to promo the DR WLW Zine again, because there's a specific piece by Magi (starrylitme on AO3) that completely sold me on Soniyoko in a way that almost no fic ever has.

I don't want to post too much, but I think this excerpt really gets into the fundamental appeal of the ship in general! It's full of the exact kind of "I hate you. Go away. NOT LIKE THAT" that I think this ship can really dig into. And it nails Sonia like nothing I've ever seen. Everybody go support the DR WLW Zine when they have leftover sales. And then go support Magi like right now.

(it's dumb because it leads to you actually being mad at him and taking ehren's side which makes him predictably more jealous)

you turn him into a little bashful boy when he's usually a pretty confident sexual guy

it doesn't stop him from constantly flirting, but it's more like showering you in compliments

'precious, historically the sexiest member of jackass' 'prettiest eyes I've ever seen, precious, is gonna be the judge' 'precious, who has best smelling hair you'll ever smell, doesn't know what we're doing to ehren'

all to see that wide smile, unveiling dimples, on your face

his favorite is when the guys trick you into saying something rude

or now, when you accidentally take a dig at dave, and he has to tease you about it

“damn, precious, that was harsh”

“no! I didn't mean it like that! dave, you know I love you and I'd never say that!”

obviously everyone starts egging you on, enphasizing how awful whatever you said was and, defeated, you start laughing and shaking your head

“help me” you hang onto his arm but he continues giggling, and you hide your face in his chest

he's terrified you'll notice the way his heartbeat goes off, heart itself nearly pumping out of his mouth

he's even more scared of the overwhelming need to pick you up and carry you into a room, so he can get you for himself and kiss your lips and confess his love and make you laugh like no one else can and-

“pontius, seriously, I need to get her on the make up chair right now, let go” “oh, yeah, sorry”

he’s got no clue how he’s gonna deal with being in love with a co-star.

I cannot fucking believe things have got this bad!! What the actual hell is wrong with people!!??

I've seen a few reactions saying that they wouldn't be surprised if some of the cast walked away or ended up hating being a part of Heartstopper and this points to something I noticed in the most recent zoom interview that Joe and Kit did.

In the original promo run of interviews, the answer to questions about fan reactions to the show was always based around giving fans confidence in themselves and seeing stories about the show helping them come out. AND KIT WAS ALWAYS SO FUCKING PROUD THAT HE DID THAT. That he was able to help queer folks, queer kids be themselves. That their little show could do that.

In the most recent interview though, that same question receives answers through tense smiles about fan reactions to seeing them in Paris and LA, the smiles not once meeting their eyes. It was upsetting to watch and understand the change and worry for them both then. But now this weekend has happened with Joe and Bash and now with Kit and it's got so so much worse than tense smiles on a zoom interview!

I am so angry. So so angry! What will it take for you to relent?? Seriously!? I can think of many awful outcomes that go beyond the cast walking away and if you just THINK for a god damned minute about the possibilities, I'm sure you would too.

So just stop it! Let it stop here which is already further than it ever should have gone!

Also thank you so much for being someone who loves the animated Disney movies. Everyone I know praises Maleficent and Tim Burton!Alice in Wonderland whilst I personally couldn't stand a second of those self-insert badly written Wattpad fanfictions that bashed on beloved classics from my childhood.

I always love reading your takes.

This is so sweet of you to send in, thank you! 😭But I feel you- there's so much Maleficent craze and it's sad that it's overshadowed the original, undeservedly so. I think live action is an inferior art form tbh like in animation, you have the performance of the animator, the music composer, the voice artist, the color stylists- so many different factors at play and everyone's at the top of their game. In live action, you're limited to one performance of the real actor and I've noticed that they've mostly cast lackluster talent. I honestly am struggling to think of a single person who did a good job with their performance in any of the live action Disney films I've seen...Maurice in live action BATB wasn't too bad, but I didn't take to him/care as much but I think the actor had talent. Other than that...

When it comes to The Lion King, I was introduced to it as a child as most people were. A guest that came to our house bought a Pocahontas set for my sister and a Lion King set for me and I remember being upset I didn't get the princess one lol but I watched it and I thought it was fine. Specifically I loved Mufasa and Simba- both as a child and an adult character. I loved watching the behind the scenes VHS more than the movie, and I totally forgot that it existed until a few years ago...the reason being, I didn't really ever have an obsessive phase with it or re-visit it? It was kinda a movie I watched for a few months around that time I received it and that was it. I never had it on DVD or Blu Ray. I'm not really an animal movie person, necessarily, and it's a male-dominated movie, so that could also be the reason it never really resonated with me? I think it's fine though! Also our Patron Saint Mary Costa thinks Elton John's music in it was superb so I'll echo that too because I just generally agree with everything she says

For Awakening of Light- you're automatically 'aligned' with Morrighan and her abilities when you complete gen 12. To use Neamhains abilities like Spear of Light, etc. you have to change your alignment to her by talking to Eabha in Falias and giving him 5 holy waters. *Personally* I wouldn't bother swapping because Wings of Eclipse is great to have on hand (i usually use it in that annoying room in sulfur spider or when the elemental ghosts are being annoying in Peaca), but more so that you need a Falias Fragment to open a portal back and that requires one of the worst PTJ's in the game of having to deliver a parcel to one randomly selected player currently online. 9 times out of 10 you're going to get someone idling, AFK, or in their homestead. In terms of making gold- im old school and love elite Defeat Shadow Wizard because I can easily make a few 100k in less than 10 minutes each run and (i'm not sure if this is coded in game or just my dumb luck) I always seem to get more lucky bonuses in there than anywhere else in game. When the economy is good you can easily sell stacks of regular Magic Powder on the AH for 70k. It's super easy to make and small silver gems are extremely common drops from advanced Ciar. A few ingrediants are worth keeping an eye out for too; Chestnuts, Blueberries, Malt, and Green Plums all sell for typically anywhere from 5k to 20k each. I've always seen Walnuts go for at least 100k or more each. As for Tagar- I don't remember how I beat her, I think it was just sheer determination and many snap casts of Thunder in combination with Final Hit and Bash. Good luck- shes a huge pain but you've got this!

Thanks for the tips! With the cotton candy sheep event going on and the max rabbit event too, I get things I have no use for so as of right now, my AH listings are filled with things I don't need. I'm kinda glad I went with the mercantile skills too cause I often make 100k if I have my dolls summoned to pick up every piece of gold a monster drops.

But I will keep in mind about the food items, and I didn't know you have to talk to Eabha for a switch. Many thanks though!

bashing my head against a wall. i could fix binding blade's story. i could. and i am going to ramble about it and you can't stop me.

so long. this is so long.

Feli special usual features:

- tangents

- no apparent structure

- probably many typos

- getting emotional over the 2 moments i will actually deign to call well written

- i might as well just write fanfic at this point

- if you're me you understand

- actually dont even look at this. dont look at me.

first off one thing i actually really like about it compared to other FE games. everything, every location or name that ever gets mentioned, also shows up. every country can be visited and has more than one representative in the cast. additionally, you always know who to recruit people with if you paid attention to dialogue.

playing blazing blade rn and the augury really clutches it for that game. but in binding blade? the only characters i had to look up how to recruit were karel and gonzales. that's it. somebody's trapped or also fighting your enemy? talkto them with roy. anybody else? oh look, it's the brother clarine mentioned! that's the girl noah was hanging out with! that's sue's grandpa! character relations are clear and evident right from the introduction.

in short, the story is incredibly cohesive.

...doesn't stop it from being narratively weak though.

i've seen suggestions for changing who the main character is, and yeah, that works. the first suggestion is always lilina, which would work incredibly well. she fits more typically into the mold of FE lords, and hector's death gives her a more concise motivation for revenge against bern and zephiel. another suggestion i've seen is Fae, since she's the focus of the dragon conflict, and binding blade 100% undervalues her narrative potential (see: my complaint that she doesn't even get unique battle quotes against jahn)

(side note: for how cohesive the story is, jahn kinda spawns out of nowhere. like, he's the only guy not mentioned beforehand somewhere. wack.)

but the story could work with roy, i think.

so there's this part with roy and guinivere, when roy gets the binding blade. he asks if anyone could've pulled it, and she says yes. anyone could've pulled it with the fire emblem, but what matters now is that it's roy specifically who does so.

roy doesn't have anything to do with the conflict at large. he doesn't. the scouring? well, lilina's the descendant of one of the eight heroes. etruria and bern? elffin is actually the prince who faked his death, and he's the one percival and douglas care about. dragons? well, fae's the last divine dragon besides idunn.

but i think if you just like. made that the point. like echoes, except instead of undercutting your everyman protag by having him be a secret prince, he just stays.. some guy.

some guy who was in the wrong place at the right time, and it all just kinda spitballs until he's leading the etrurian army. ike is a protag who does this well, i think. it's just a job for him. and once he's done and paid, he leaves to do the next thing.

it's like. roy is kinda bland. but he doesn't have to be. this is ABSOLUTELY me honing in on minor character details because dissecting bland protags is a personal hobby of mine, but, dude was studying to be a bureaucrat. land management and shit. he's brains over brawn (if his stats didn't already show that). fucking string bean of a unit.

he is ardently chill about everything in the plot, but what if instead it like.. started to actually weigh on him. he struggles to live up to all the expectations suddenly on him, when all his life he just expected to be head of the second most important house of a minor nation. now there's un-dead princes and vengeful kings and dragons running about- and he has to unravel all these things as quick as he can to keep himself and his home safe.

what if he figured out that elffin is etruria's prince and had to weigh telling the three generals to gain their support, or potentially feeding an ally to the wolves? what kind of decision is dismantling the government of the nation you're supposed to be helping?

he just Does The Right Thing, Unquestionably, and that's it.

as for the dragons, introduce jahn earlier, by god. or, find some other way to exposition dump everything about idunn. hell, maybe fae has heard of idunn before, of a divine dragon who didn't make it to arcadia, and roy slowly reveils the horrifying truth of the demon dragon with what snippets he hears from bern's soldiers. maybe have an earlier fight with idunn actually staying on the field as a mysterious figure. anything. i bet you could just cut out jahn altogether if you did that.

like, make roy and everyman and commit to the bit. he wasn't born to step into hartmut's legacy. he just wanted to save his dad from a random attack. but he chose to do it anyway.

and one moment i do really like. from the atrocious exposition dumb of ch24. is when jahn says the binding blade conforms to its user's will, and that's how hartmut spared idunn, i could feel it just click for roy. in that moment, he knew how to save idunn. and he knew he would save idunn long before that.

play into the theme of legacies. hartmut's legacy is, on the surface, of the man who killed the demon dragon. a legacy of violence that roy finds himself in. but, beneath that, it was a legacy of kindness. of only as much blood as need be, and not a drop more.

put this against zephiel. he's like. i dont know how to phrase this. but the opposite of what the previous paragraph is. zephiel has a gigantic legacy as crown prince of an empire, but it's one that's denied to him out of petty jealousy by his father. i think his motivation is actually pretty compelling; he's lost faith in humanity. so he claims his birthright through murder, and uses it to end all legacies to ever exist. whereas the legacy roy obtains is kindness cloaked in violence, zephiel's is violence cloaked in kindness. by trying to end all conflict, he will only create an empty world. he doesnt really care about the dragons, either; it's idunn's soulless war dragons that are his ideal, not fellow creatures of ego like jahn.

and guinivere. god. the potential. zephiel has become to her what his father has become to him. it's again, legacy. zephiel's father broke his faith in humanity, and he has broken guinivere's. she is an ardent pacifist until the end.

....until she gives roy the tool he needs to kill her brother, that is. she first steals the fire emblem in the hope it will force a peaceful resolution. and she gives up. not in humanity. just in her brother.

GOD. THE TRAGEDY OF IT ALL?? in my head it could be so good. it's again just all cycles of violence and kindness. she's trying so so hard to break violence with kindness but it doesn't work. but she chooses to see the good in humanity despite it all. she really embodies that philosophy that roy brings up in his speech against zephiel. it may be humans who do wrong, but it's humans who stop them. we're all just going to keep making the same mistakes over and over, but we're always going to try to do better, and that's what matters. history isn't moving upward. just forwards. but we're trying. hartmut tried, and he didn't quite succeed; just prolonged it. but hartmut was just some guy who tried to save idunn, and that vain attempt was what allowed her to be saved for real.

(clears throat)

OTHER CHARACTERS!

so. since this hypothetical binding blade remake would cater to me specifically.

first of all, replace merlinus with lilina. binding blade's story with her is really hampered by the fact that lilina is killable.

only unkillable characters (i.e roy), characters who 'retreat' instead of dying (elffin, merlinus) or NPCs (Guinivere) are allowed to have narrative importance for more than their intro chapter and relevant gaidens. this blows.

make lilina the deuteragonist. there's already a clear trajectory for her; she calls herself a warrior, she says she must stay strong in the face of adversity, she cannot allow herself to cry now, but still she fiercely believes in the good of others. she's an incredibly good judge of character, and chooses to bet her life on kindness, as seen in how she can recruit both gonzales and garret.

she's, as brought up occasionally already, a much more archetypical FE lord, with a weighty legacy and a dead dad. it would be fun if she just bottles everything up and it crushes her. maybe she has her dad's temper and is trying to be a Proper Marquess in conduct. she n roy can find solidarity in fellow imposter syndrome. they'd both believe they're not good enough, think the other is so much better, only to end up as each other's biggest supporter.

and. listen. the lilina ogier support haunts me. and it gives a terrifying opportunity. like choosing your legacy and not being bound by blood but by shared conviction?

hey. what if lilina was adopted.

i dont know where exactly i'd put a reveal like this. second half of the game, surely. how would she find out? who knows. i don't. i'm just rambling about random points of potential. maybe she encounters someone in the enemy army who fought hector; murdock, maybe? and then it's pointed out how odd it is for hector to have a daughter when he died a bachelor. reverse alm.

and then she'd remember something incredibly distant, long buried as unimportant; of being young and alone and abandoned and seeing a city for the first time.

it would be crushhhingggg for her, since she relied so much on "blood of a warrior" as a crutch. BUT THEN! thematic coherence. it doesn't matter whether she's of his blood or not; there's no doubt in anyone's mind that she's hector's daughter, through and through. and she chooses to keep that legacy, to believe herself worthy of it. she didn't get so far by being roland's descendant; she did it on her own strength, her own smarts, her own merits. hector could've picked anyone off the streets, but it happened to be her, and that's what matters. the paths life offers are infinite, but we are here, and these are our choices.

and that's what i'd do for lilina! yay!

if it wasn't difficult to figure out logistically considering theme-ing and pulling an alm again i would also ABSOLUTELY make ninian!roy canon since blazing blade pushes elinini anyway. yeah i talked about the unimportance of blood but also. manakete roy is REALLY fucking funny.

"dragons still exist?" listen to me boy you are for real a dragon asking this.

also fun recontextual reading of his desire to learn all he can about dragons to learn more about himself since he would've thought his mother was the last dragon in elibe, which would've given it a more tragic slant. and additionally his very existence would be proof that dragons and humans can live in peace, which feels poignant. imo you could still push the everyman angle since ice dragons are largely irrelevant to anything happening with the demon dragon, and all the shenanigans nergal pulled had no effect on binding blade's plot outside of worsening zephiel's already bad relationship with his dad.

it's also just so so so funny to me. on god. it really is.

also allows for solidarity moments i.e sophia as part-dragon people. and also a reason for him to be invested in the dragon plot. and maybe a motivation for him to want to save idunn too. and the sheer irony of wielding a dragon-slaying weapon.

feli is this hypocrisy. maybe a little bit. But Also you can still push thematically. It Just So Happened that roy pulled the binding blade. there are dragons already living in harmony with humans. sophia may well have been the one to lead instead. she just happened not to be.

it also extends the just some guy-ness to eliwood i guess. he kind of is. to me. a gentleman, maybe. a righteous guy. but not the most important guy ever.

anyway! yeah! this was my word vomit about binding blade!

just read your last anon and I’m usually just a silent reader, and tbh as someone who believe Jikook are a think I disagree with you a lot, but anyways I like reading your blog you seem very down to earth and I like that and I get your frustration. it’s not the first time that I see similar messages and i know I’ll get bashed for saying this but I don’t even believe half of the ppl out there pretending they’re queer (what does that even mean at this point) are anyway. I’ve been in shipping spaces for a long time, I share this "hobby" with a friend of mine and so many "cishets" as they say use the queer umbrella as a shield because we know damn well rps mlm shipping has been thrown upon (sometimes for good reasons, and often times due to misogyny, but that’s just my opinion ). I know some ppl are gonna get mad at this and call me names, not sure why I even send this but as a "cishet" (I usually refuse to use the word cis but that’s another can of worms I won’t open here) I’m seriously done with this mindset. i’m free to make assumptions and ship whoever I want or deny any ship I want to deny like anyone else and being part of the lgbt community is not a requirement to ship, what’s with people acting like the thought police here… ha sorry I needed to vent I guess, that post made me mad

Yes, it's fine to disagree with me! A lot of people who are following me don't agree with everything I have to say, if any at all. The only reason why I know this is that I've seen some familiar names interact with bloggers I 100% would not get along with, but that's really none of my business. I'm not here to change minds.

I think those followers tend to be curious about what I have to say about some aspect of Jikook. Sometimes it'll make them think; most of the time they think I'm full of shit. I have my own critiques of hardcore shippers/supporters, so I fully expect that my existence throws a wrench in all of that and incites aggression in others. All I do is talk about how I feel. Anyone who chooses to interact with me are doing so of their own volition and are responsible for their own actions.

I don’t even believe half of the ppl out there pretending they’re queer (what does that even mean at this point) are anyway. So this POV is a bit of a slippery slope. If we cast doubt on everyone and everything because a fraction of one's community is encouraging those feelings, it doesn't help anyone. Personally, I haven't "met" general ARMYs or shippers who have pretended to be queer, but I've read about this happening. I think the real culprit is the anonymity of the Internet and what kind of behaviors that's enabled over the years, but that's another can of worms I don't want to get into.

To be fair, I understand queer shippers who are tentative about shipping occurring amongst cishets, which is valid, but the way some of them go about protecting what they consider an exclusively LGBTQ+ activity can be extremist and nonsensical, in my opinion.

(Part of me also suspects that this overly passionate dedication amounts to how important fandom is to a person. I prioritize and cherish my real life more than I ever could about fandom, but fandom is also a much needed escape for others, so I can see how that might play a part in people's motivations and how they might go about protecting their safe space.)

Male, female, non-binary, gay, straight, bi, asexual, whatever your sexual or gender identity–don't be an asshole and don't be an idiot, that's all I'm saying. If you're cishet and shipping two males/two females, just be mindful about how you're going about it is all. Shipping because you genuinely care about the individuals involved and believe in who they are as human beings vs. fetishizing them (unintentionally or otherwise) can get a little blurry. (Fetishization is not the only issue that occurs in this cishet vs. lgbtq+ in fandom discourse, but it's the most common and most talked about.)

In my opinion, attraction isn't so discerning; sometimes people just gravitate to whomever they like. If cishets can recognize that attraction is just a feeling that can occur among and across different genders and sexualities, I don't see how this is a bad thing at all.

* Sorry, I talk about "cishets" like I'm othering them, and I don't really care much for that attitude, but for distinction purposes, it is what it is.
