yourusername welcome back to my post game penalty box update show: quinny tried his best edition!
there were a total of fourteen penalties in this game, including some misconducts for laffy taffy, but none of them belonged to quintin! way to go, best friend! (this is lie. i’m disappointed. angry, even. please crime. i’ll give you a dollar.)
what did bring me immense joy was quinn literally jumping into a scrum and proceeded to get yanked out of it via his neck! he looked quite terrified after he did it, and i was laughing my ass off at home! (also him getting knocked down) (tysm flyers for that one) (took me back to childhood) (it was great)
this game was very painful to watch, but at least no one died! and at least we're 2-1-0! the devils are not that! that's a win in my book!
i love you way past infinity, quinny💙 drop gloves next time! i'm still proud of you for jumping in though! just spice it up for me!
p.s. to my blonde king and princess— i love you both, too! i'm so proud! you're both doing so great at human-ing!

“I mean, I wouldnt go that far.” Your tone is lacking that softness it just had, instead replaced with your best forced sneer and roll of your eyes when you see the tug of a smile forming across Steve’s lips; your admission unfortunately not falling on deaf ears, or being mistook for near-death-expierenced kindness. But something else that the both of you know to be unspokenly there.
“You jumped for me.” Steve grins.
You hold your hand up, shaking your head. “I only jumped because everyone else jumped. Don’t let it go to your head, Harrington. Your hair is already big enough. Your shoulders aren’t going to hold any more inflation.”
Your jest does the opposite of what you want it to do; deepening the sickening fondness and knowing on his face.
And yeah, maybe you did jump in because just-maybe-possibly your heart sank just as deep as Steve did when he was pulled under. Maybe something inside of you seized and ached and your stomach was filled with a feeling you can only classify as something close to affection, a stupid crush maybe?
Or you could do the ‘of sound mind thing’ and blame it on the movement of the boat making your stomach ache, or maybe the fear of you being the next to be pulled under—because it made more sense than you actually admitting to yourself, and to Steve, that you didn’t actually loathe him; you actually liked him, alot.
But you know there’s no denying it now. No matter how many scowls you shoot at him or how you try to ignore his eyes moving over to you as the two of you follow the rest of the group through this fucked up version of your town. No, there was no going back now. Especially after you had bashed in a nightmarish bat's head to stop it from gnawing at him.
A longer than typical silence spreads between the two of you. There’s always some tease, jest, or banter flowing between the two of you. There was rarely a silent moment when one of you wasn't voicing distaste or complaints; that were clearly masking unfortunate feelings and the delight your body went through when you saw that deadpan look of his, and frustrating way he would run his fingers through his hair when you would make a stinging comment to his ego.
You were screwed. Had been since you were roped into this little group of theirs.
Guess there was no going back now.
You were either going to die at the hands of some demented boogeyman or from the endless mockery Steve was going to dish out at you now that he knew you actually didn’t hate him that much, or at all.
"So you like me-like me, huh?" He’s still grinning at you.
The eye roll you do is involuntary and completely warranted because god you were never going to live this down and screw your mouth for being so big and your heart for feeling…things. You were just another town cliche. Another girl who found Steve ‘The Hair’ Harrington irresistible. Except you weren’t afraid to let him know how obnoxiously irritating he was—is.
“If you tell anyone I’ll deny it until the day I die.” You’re looking everywhere but at him. Trying to make your tone as sarcastic as possible, but not denying his words. Confirming them without letting anymore sentiments come out of your mouth like uncontrolled word vomit.
Theres a part of you that wants to hear him admit the same thing. Even if its masked by a joke, or a dig. And you hate it. Hate that you're pretty much in some fresh hell and your nerves are only tingling and preening at the hope that Steve says he likes you back. That he doesn't really find you as annoying as it seems.
How pathetic is that?
Extremely.
But you’re ready for the humiliation. Know that it’s coming before it happens. Try to convince yourself of it being factual as you stare down at the ground, focusing on not stepping in whatever gross muck is on the road ahead of you; it doing little to stop you from still holding out hope, to feeling the shared aforementioned pathetic feelings.
You're so prepared for the downfall, the aftermath of this situation—this place—just getting worse as the seconds tick by that you don’t realize Steve’s fingers are brushing against yours until his palm is pressed to yours. Your fingers laced with eachothers; your teeth sinking into the flesh of your cheek to hide the huge smile that threatens to spread across your lips.
Who knew fireworks could shoot off in someones body? Could light every nerve ending on fire, how cheesy, cliche.
You love it.
“It’s crazy,” Steve sighs. Your body readys for him to say something regarding the moment, to ruin it by making you feel even more. Something he doesn’t do when he says, “Not a strand of hair out of place,” and it’s even worse. Because you’re letting that smile spread wide as you look over at him and watch him play with his hair, the look in his eyes, in his grin, letting you know he’s only said it so you can say something about it—his hair your favorite topic of tease.
Yeah, you’re totally screwed.

"Hey, Y/N?", he called out, voice echoing back towards him, "Where are you?".
He couldn't help but think the worst, with everything that was going on at this school, as he blinked at the room he was in. The sheets were thrown carelessly around, books scattered everywhere and her makeup was spread around her desk. Very out-of-character. His heart pounded in his chest, what if something had happened to her. He needed to do something. He needed to get help.
His train of thought was interrupted by a string of incoherent mumbling. Peering over the edge of the bed, he found a pile of mismatched throw blankets, pink, blue, yellow, even plaid. Through the sea of colours, he spotted a pair of eyes blinking up at him.
He shook his head, the fear and anxiety melting away, as he chuckled, "I can't hear you".
The blankets wriggled a little, before toppling over, revealing a girl in mismatched pyjamas lying on the floor her hair, messy, tangled and splayed out. Her nose was red and her eyes watery, with a heap of crumpled tissues next to her. In a nasal voice she groaned, "I'm here".
He quickly put two and two together, feeling a pang of guilt that he didn't know about it. "How are you feeling ?", he asked, leaning on the side of her bed as he lowered himself to ground.
"I literally can't breathe", she sighed, struggling to take a deep breath as proof. In defeat, she flipped over, pushing her head deeper into the snot-stained pillow, her voice muffled, “just leave me here to die”.
He laced his finger through her knitted mess of hair, scratching gently, just the way she liked it. She hummed in delight. “Did you go to the nurse?", he questioned, raising an eyebrow. He already knew the answer to the question, yet he still enjoyed asking, just to see her nose scrunch up with irritation.
She lifted her head from its fluffy prison, eyebrows furrowed as she glared sharply at him. "No, why would I", she scoffed, before planting her head back into its original position.
“To get medicine?", he grinned to himself, moving a hand down to rest on her cheek, tracing aimlessly.
She rolled her eyes, "I don't need it, I'll fight it out on my own". Rolling over she pulled a blanket back over herself, tucking her arms under, before giving him a pointed stare with her brows raised.
"If you say so", he taunted playfully. He watched her closely as he pretended to get to his feet, moving at a tenth of a regular person’s speed.
Just as he thought, she bolted up right away, the blanket long forgotten, "No- wait- I didn't mean alone".
"Just joking", he smirked, feeling a little sorry when he noticed her distress, but it felt a little too good to be needed. He positioned himself next to her, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, “Do you want cuddles?"
Turning to face him, she whined, “I do but you'll get sick”.
He probably would get whatever bug she had, but it didn't really matter to him, he could only think of her, “I don't care, really”.
"Really?", she beamed, closing the distance between them. She let out a contented sigh at the feeling of his arms wrapping around her waist, snuggling deeper into his cool skin and twisting her leg around his. Finally her body seemed to relax, as the pounding in her head dulled a little.
He leaned down to place a kiss on her forehead, "Happy?".
"Very", she smiled, eyes fluttering shut as a wave of exhaustion washed over her and lulled her to sleep.

Idk if passenger is really a thing on here or if Barry Sloane gets any love on this app BUT I literally adore that show already.
THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR PASSENGER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!
Passenger. Oh my fucking GOD. I've watched it so many times. Eddie Wells has altered my brain chemistry. The tears I shed over that sweet, beautiful man.
The way he didn't even remember doing it, but thought he must have done because he was told he did, because everyone else was so fucking sure he'd done it, he believed them. He was branded evil, a monster, a freak, and probably everything else under the sun for something he didn't even remember doing. The guilt he felt. The staggering loneliness in those five years. It isn't discussed but I bet you any money his family didn't go and visit him once. In five fucking years. (I do understand why, I totally understand Joanne, Katie and Lily's motivations but that doesn't make it hurt Eddie any less)
Then he got out, and all he wanted was to be a part of his own family again. He wanted to be a husband and father again. He missed his little girls, he missed his wife. He missed his home.
And what did he find, what was his open and welcoming heart met with? Coldness, tension, conflict. His family is everything to him, and they didn't want anything to do with him. He wanted to bring Joanne a sandwich to her work, just to be nice, and she asked when he was leaving. Later his eldest daughter nearly threw boiling coffee in his face, his little girl, ready to cause him serious harm. A few days after Lily asks if she can tell him a secret.
He looked so delighted to be trusted with one. To be let back in just a little by the baby of his family, his darling baby girl. And she tells him "I wish you were dead." The TEARS I SHED when he looked up at her and visibly broke. (Barry Sloane is fucking slept on as an actor i swear to god, he is literally incredible). You could see something die in his eyes. The resolve when he stood up.
He went to end his life in the icy lake. 'This is what monsters deserve'. And who saved his life? But Jim, his 'victim'. Jim pulled him from a terrible death.
Because he was owed an answer.
Because Eddie was the beast that attacked him for no reason. Because Eddie was evil and did an evil thing, and Jim wanted to know why.
And then it turned out he was fucking innocent.
The whole time, HE DIDN'T FUCKING DO IT. 5 years in prison, in a 6x8 shoebox. For a crime he didn't even commit.
If you've read this far, do you get why he's changed my brain chemistry forever? He was pushed away, shunned, got himself beaten up, nearly killed himself over something he didn't fucking do.
Eddie was broken by the people of Chadder Vale. Even his own family. And none of it was his fault. 5 years stolen from him, his relationship with his family stolen from him, his reputation stolen from him, his life stolen from him.
AND THEN- AND FUCKING THEN- BARRY TWEETS THIS.
THE FUCK YOU MEAN HE HAS HIS DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAYS ON HIS WRISTS. THE FUCK YOU MEAN HE HAS HIS WIFE'S NAME ON HIS LEFT FOREARM. THE LAYERS OF TRAGEDY IN ONE CHARACTER IN A SIX EPISODE SERIES ON ITVX. I AM A MESS OVER THIS INFORMATION.
HIS FAMILY IS HIS WORLD. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MUCH IT WOULD'VE HURT HIM WHEN AFTER ALL THAT TIME THEY REJECTED HIM??
I'm sobbing all over again. Don't even get me started on the 'it felt real, no?' When Joanne rejected his affection so harshly, because my boy was fucking devastated. (Again. I can empathise with her, I do get it, I do understand her point of view. Eddie has just messed my brain up and I adore him.)
Sincerely, I love him. Thank you Barry for him. I'm going to sob in my corner and think about giving Eddie a hug until there's a season 2.
I am never going to be the same.

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 2, Episode 17, "Dead Uncles and Vegetables", Part 2

Luke is giving Lorelai the run down on the Life and Death of Uncle Louie, which is terribly un important. Think it's funny that he doesn't tell Lorelai about the existence of his family members until there's a crisis like his uncle croaking. Lorelai didn't know he had a sister or nephew until Jess was practically on his doorstep. Frankly, the life story of Liz Danes is infinitely more fascinating than Dead Louie's.
I have to make a small correction: in the previous post, I stated that Teach Me Tonight was the next episode, but there's actually another wonderful, glorious, absolutely pointless filler episode next. That one where Richard helps Rory with a project for the Chilton business fair and Madelyn invents the Amazon Alexa a full 12 years before Amazon does but Rory sidelines her invention because no one at Chilton knows how to build a robot.
I can't think of a more gruesome place to spend the afterlife. If I happened to die in The Hollow, I would come back and haunt you. I'm gonna haunt you so hard, Lorelai Gilmore. You, Dean. Boom, haunted.
A little healthy competition for Taylor Doose. Just a warmup before Walmart eventually moves in and flattens both markets.

Back at the Inn, Michel notices the 9 rooms that Lorelai reserved for Luke but there is no credit card on file to pay for said rooms. What's that sound? Could it be the sound of Lorelai Gilmore’s gross financial irresponsibility? Could it be that Lorelai just gifted Luke 9 free hotel rooms with no way to make that money back for the Inn?
Ha!
To bring everyone up to speed on the low stakes drama currently under way: Sookie is planning her wedding, and after a fateful soup tasting, Emily has wormed her way in to the wedding planning. Lorelai is predictably miffed. I fear that a day without a Miffed Lorelai would throw the Earth off it's axis.
For at least the second time in so many weeks, Lorelai has just up and left work in the middle of the day to help Luke do something and no one tries to stop her, on top of that she is leaving her real job to go work another job filling in for Luke.
Lorelai Gilmore is an HR rep’s nightmare.
Meanwhile at the diner: the war for small town economic dominance rages on between Taylor and the gentle farmer's market hippie, while Lorelai works behind the counter and Rory....
WHHHAAAAA???!
First Rory paid for her food, now she's working.... a job??!
Gross.
Kirk just ordered lunch, Lorelai is about to bring Luke a turkey burger, and another customer asked Lorelai if they were still serving breakfast, so are we to assume it’s like, around 11am? And Rory is not in school. My word! She pulled a Jess and skipped school to work!
It's even funnier when you think about how Luke is basically nobody to Rory at this point but some dick her mom is quietly chasing and her mother pulls her out of school to wait tables at his restaurant.
(before anyone says "maybe it's a weekend", Rory was in her Chilton uniform just moments ago).
Taylor, observing Miss Patty across the street at the farmer's market: "Since when does Patty eat so much fruit?"
This is the woman who told 15 year old Rory that plums were better than sex.
Taylor is quaking in his cardigan, he knows deep down that at any moment his power and stranglehold over Stars Hollow could be usurped in a blink.
Hippie: My market is so busy I don't have time to take a break and eat a meal.
Taylor: A well groomed businessman with a good staff can afford to take a break now and again.

In other Low Stakes Drama, Lorelai has gone upstairs to bring Luke his lunch. He informs Lorelai that none of his relatives are coming to Dead Louie’s funeral, and they both pretend to be sad about it. Jess is nowhere to be found, so I guess unlike Rory, he’s at school, not jerking off for once.
Luke laments the lame excuses that his no good relatives gave for skipping Dead Louie’s funeral, like “I can’t miss work.”
If only they had the generous “Leave work in the middle of a shift to go help the diner guy” PTO package that the Independence Inn provides to Lorelai.
Luke begins the ol’ “name and shame the family members who have stood me up” and to no one’s fucking surprise Liz is among the funeral skippers who isn’t answering his calls (and at the same time isn’t seizing this opportunity to visit her own son and brother).
Oh Liz Danes you are SO getting haunted.
Now this just throws more Confusion Dressing onto the Dead Uncles and Vegetables Salad.
On top of the "Rory gets pulled out school to chase her mom's Dick Goals", Jess also isn’t at school, and Luke says he’s…playing basketball. Ha ha ha. From the fantastical imagination of one Miss AmyShermanPalladino, who bought us “Dean likes/knows how to read”, comes its thrilling sequel, “Jess plays sports!"
Okay. Okay. Nothing is as creative or fantastically fictional as “Dean being literate”. And that being said, I could see Jess shooting hoops, I guess? Like maybe he spent time at the parks and playgrounds of New York City to blow off a little steam. Maybe it’s not a terribly ridiculous notion.
Anyhow, much like “I was playing football with my friends” ala the big fat lie in Swan Song, Rory just accepts this statement without question and then calls him a "little punk". Why? The hell did he do?
First ya'll are mad he's causing "mischief" and now he's found a wholesome activity to keep him occupied and off the mean streets of Stars Hollow and you're still mad.
That brown shirt looked fucking stellar on him and he had to go and ruin it with a poofy lifejacket. 2000's fashion, man.
I love how there is clearly nothing for Jess to do plotwise so they made up this z-plot where Rory keeps getting mad at him for taking time off from work, as if it matters to her, and as if he doesn’t have the most solid work ethic in Stars Hollow and shouldn’t be allowed take a break and play his little basketball game if he wants.

I'm sure he tried so hard to hold onto that fleeting moment of bliss today, a brief time when he was free, playing basketball, by himself most likely, skipping school, no one bothering him, then Rory shows up and drags him back to work/home for some reason and then Luke forces him to go to a town meeting, He never even got any time to jerk off.
I don't understand why Luke goes to these things. Clearly any time there is a meeting he is there not of his own free will, so what are the terrifying consequences for staying home?

here’s to 2022
what a year it’s been. among everything that has taken place, one of the best decisions i made was creating this blog. in my 13+ years in fandom and different writing communities, none of them have ever been as warm or welcoming as this one. the response my writing has gotten has been overwhelming in the best way. many of you are so quick to leave comments and words of encouragement and it means more than you could ever know.
as a thank you for all the love and support, i wanted to highlight some of my favorite fics of the year. this is by no means an extensive list, and i'm sure i will miss some, because there's no way i could highlight every single great story i've read. there are too many fantastic writers in this community for me to do so.

my love, forever collection by @robertcallsignbobfloyd - this series is heart wrenching and beautiful. i find myself thinking about it again from time to time and wishing i could read it from the beginning all over again and experience all the emotions it made me feel for the first time. truly a masterpiece.
navy boy, country girl by @clints-lucky-arrow - this fic turned my world upside down, let me tell you. i love the idea of bob as a cowboy. and the line "But I hear that you’ve become quite the cowgirl. So, do what you do best, darlin’. Ride." quite literally sent me into another plane of existence. such a sexy story. delicious, really.
weather the storm by @wildbornsiren - this is such a sweet story. heartbreaking in the best way. this line: He nods, and you can feel the wet spot on your shirt from his tears. “You’re a safe place.” truly touched me deep within my soul. just a wonderful piece of writing, truly.
morning after by @mothdruid - this one is just too good. little bit of humor sprinkled throughout. also, great proponent of the #bobfucks agenda. i had such a good time reading this, and often find myself rereading it.
no shame by @beachbabey - i really have no words. just, bob with a mommy kink. what more could you ask for? gosh it's just such a fun read, and the way he's just so subby and sweet the whole time? i could die
the phone call by @sebsxphia - the anguish in this story is just so heart wrenching. it's short and to the point but manages to make you feel so many emotions at once while reading it. such a good, angsty read
rhett abbott fics
the trouble with books by @hederasgarden - god this is just so HOT. got me all flustered and warm under the collar. it never gets old, even after i've read it multiple times. i can't even describe how much i loved every minute of it (as well as part 2), you just have to read it for yourself and see.
stand by your man by @a-reader-and-a-writer - so, so good. such a great depiction of hurt/comfort. also does a great job of showcasing rhett's stubbornness. i reread this from time to time and always enjoy myself.
horsemanship by @bradshawsbitch - one of my all time favorite rhett fics! i love, love, love the idea of rhett owning a stubborn mare who only likes him and no one else. god it just makes my heart sing. i will forever adore the idea that he is soft with animals. anyway, this entire story was just such a wonderful read.
please by @h0neyfire - this is just delicious. i enjoyed every minute. just the thought of breaking rhett down and getting him all needy and desperate and pliant for you? fuck, i need to lie down.
bradley bradshaw fics
running series by @lcahwriter - this series will forever be one of my favorites. the way trauma is portrayed in this story is so gripping. sometimes, stories like this can sometimes be over dramatic or sensationalized, but this story is none of those things. very tastefully done. the moment i read the first part i was hooked.
skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight by @gretagerwigsmuse - if i were to truly say how this fic made me feel, it would just be a bunch of unintelligible keyboard smashing, because holy shit. it's so damn sexy. one of those stories you can't stop thinking about long after you've read it.
the better man by @bradshawsbaby - i really loved the way the tables were turned in this story. usually it's bradley defending the reader from some asshole's unwanted attention, but this showcased what might take place if it were the other way around and bradley's girl was defending him. such an enjoyable piece, i had such a good time reading it.
idle time by @hangmanbrainrot - the angst in this story just touches something deep within my soul. such a great depiction of bradley's struggles while he has time off. it was something so relatable and personal to me.

i and love and you by @halfway-happyyy - this one hurt so good. the way hurt and betrayal is portrayed in this is so emotionally stirring. this story fully made me cry as i was reading it. so worth the read.
who did this to you? by @justfandomwritings - this is probably one of my favorite stories born out of the who did this to you? trope. the situation is portrayed so well. it's not over the top either. very well done.
fair game by @sunlightmurdock - when i tell you this one knocked me the fuck out!!! my jaw dropped. SO good. if you love drama you will LOVE this. jake is such a bitch and it's wonderful.
if devotion is a river (then i'm floating away) by @seasonsbloom - i'm at a bit of a loss for words with this one. it is truly breathtaking. every time i read it, it's like i'm reading it for the first time all over again. it's like reading poetry. absolutely wonderful.

Just finished the cdrama PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE and my god what absolute delectable chaos. I understood none of the plot but the vibes were impeccable. HIGHLIGHTS:
Takes chaotic bisexuals taken to a hitherto unseen level of lunacy
Lead characters with such staggering levels of self-destructive tendencies that it boggles the soul. My main man Li Wu, traumatized orphan lying liar who lies, just wants to Be Bi and Do Crimes but inadvertantly gets roped into joining the secret police, gets embroiled in a conspiracy, yada yada yada, suddenly he's devoted his whole life to this one guy Lu Zheng, to the extent that he rises through the ranks and alternatively supports and sabotages the whole freakin' empire just to KEEP THE GUY SAFE (???)
Fucked up found families!! you love to see it!!
I can count on one hand the number of m/f ships I love, but this show has such a delightful pairing. Their meet-cute is her (badass assassin ninja Shu Tang) casually walking around trying to figure out where to hide his body while he (lying liar who lies Li Wu) pathetically pleads for his life. At some point she wakes up piss-drunk in a brothel surrounded by like 20 other ladies. No further explanation given.
Shu Tang: "I can't marry you because I have too much shit to do." Mad respect, girl. Go finish up your murders, sweetie.

Back to the two male leads. How do I even. There are no words to describe their relationship. I can't even justifiably say it's queer coded because they are not so much devoted to each other as utterly and completely unhinged about each other. Every time meet up they either flirt so dizzyingly even THEY lose track of the plot or they get violently and messily divorced. Or both!!! Then in the next scene they're dying for each other. Li Wu cuts off the fingers of like 38 people just to ensure that Lu Zheng.... look I honestly don't even know how the logic tracks but it was fuckin' nuts. Then at some point Li Wu devotes his whole life to making Lu Zheng hates him because he thinks he deserves the brunt of all of Lu Zheng's anger and pain and rage??? babygirl alert
At some point another character just screams at them to kiss and make up, and they're both like No. I hate him. I would die for him. Fuck off.

Maybe I should have had more knowledge of what went down in the 25th year of the Emperor Hongwu but I had zero clue what was flying most of the time or why anyone was doing what they were doing or why that random white dude with the terrible haircut showed up but I blame a lot of it on the terrible subtitles, which I honestly suspect were just fucking with me most of the time??
At some point a key character is kidnapped and we legit just never find out what happened to him (OR MAYBE I'M DUMB AND MISSED IT)
Realtalk though, some of the whiplash was probably intentional in the sense that the show devastatingly presents a time and place in which imperial edict was the rule of law and everyone underneath was ruthlessly subjected to higher powers beyond their control. That sense of utter chaos and helplessness was beautifully and brutally portrayed.
You can also still catch me lying in fetal position on the floor because of lines like "I'm not a good person or a hero but I tried to be a good father" and "Do you know why they cut a condemned person's neck? If they cut on bone, the blade will be destroyed" and love declarations like "If it weren't for all this I'd like to just sit and watch the sunset with you" and “I was happy every day before I met you”
The costumes. The aesthetics. The cinematography. The fire motif. CHEF'S KISS.
I have yet to watch a cdrama (or kdrama for that matter) where the music didn't rock my socks off, and this one's no exception. The bromance theme is an absolute goddamn banger and the m/f duet ending theme slays every time.

Discussing/Going Slightly Crazy over Tears of Themis Main Story 09: Grey Frontier, a Post

HOO BOY TALK ABOUT MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS. NONE OF MY PREVIOUS QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED AND NOW I HAVE MORE HOLY MOLY
my heart dropped when i didn't see a Trial level. more questions, less answers.
let's start by discussing the squares in the little bingo made by @/actualbird, who i will not tag because i do not want to spoil him accidentally. thank u zak for ur services :D
one thing to note is that there are NO bingos this chapter, mainly because one thing most of us probably didn't expect lmao: NXX SEPARATED.
unthinkable. unimaginable. like there's practically NO team stuff in ch9. that's insane. artem was flooded with heirson cases, vyn was dealing with.. whatever the fuck he was doing, marius was presumably busy with managing the backlash of the trial in 08, and that leaves luke, who even though is the one that mc can tag along with for a case is still busy on his own with nsb stuff. hardly any teamwork happening, besides if you count marius' "interrogation" where luke gave him his button back and vyn just guiding mc to figure out what the suicide notes meant... yeah. not to mention artem being skye's attorney???. 99% Win Rate Artem Wing. hello. I have never been more confused. what's the plot behind this? are they all orchestrating a behind-the-scenes plan that'll come together, or are they really all doing their own shit? I'm leaning more towards the former given the nature of the game but gosh this is taking a TURN

1. skye harper. she loves taking care of people and she hates seeing people suffering. gerard suffered because of his mom and so many patients suffered because of tyson turner. she wants to protect her patients and the people she favors. i support her actions btw she's so cool for that. artem also supports her so that's a point in our favor! i also think her drinking all night when gerard disappeared definitely is relevant somehow, we'll see in the next chapter.
2. mc is probably feeling a little left out ngl. everyone's got their own thing, and she can't really actively participate in much because she got doxxed and her personal life is being pried into. and she can't do much about anything, not even help artem for some reason, and she's definitely having a personal conflict especially with luke's... everything. i just love mc's character so much i hope she snaps soon tbh.

My Current Top 10 Itzy Songs
Context: I've been a fan since I first saw the Icy dance practice in late 2019, but I became a superfan with the release of Wannabe and haven't looked back since--well, except for a slight moment of hesitation with the release of MITM, but the delightful Crazy In Love album brought me back!!
I'm in the process of designing my dream Itzy comeback, like @nayeonline did! [link to their post] I wanted to share this top ten list first, so y'all have an idea of what kinds of songs I love most from these ladies! See, no matter how much I trash-talk Itzy's music (sorry, Not Shy, I was too mean to you for far too long), I really do love SO MANY of their songs--I only criticize some of their tracks as passionately as I do because the highs of their discography are soooo high for me. So let's talk about them!
1. Nobody Like You
Itzy are rock stars in my heart <3 Anything with them + a guitar brings me sooo much joy! Also, the second verse is SO pretty, it's what drew me to the song right from the day the album sampler was released :)
2. Wannabe
I don't think there's any other choice for my favorite Itzy title track--I'd be surprised if anyone has a favorite other than Wannabe. I really have to do an essay about this era one day...
3. Ting Ting Ting (with Oliver Heldens)
This song is totally just trolling all of us! I HATED it for that during the first few months after it came out, but now I don't mind at all--I'm completely in love with it, and all of its weird production choices! I love when songs make me laugh, because I don't find too many of those out there, and the prechorus in this one always gets at least a giggle out of me (JUST LISTEN FOR THE WEIRD GRUNTING SOUND IN THE INSTRUMENTAL WHAT EVEN IS THAT ITS BEEN THREE YEARS AND I CANT STOP LAUGHING ABOUT IT)
4. Icy
Yes, I'm THAT guy who likes Icy more than Dalla Dalla. I know minimalistic choruses are overdone nowadays, but this basic chorus format is so well-suited to such a charismatic group--they carry the energy of the song so well!
5. Be In Love
What did I say about me when Itzy + guitar? This song makes me soooooooo sentimental.
6. That's a No No
There are tracks I like more than this from the Wannabe album, but I'm sure this is my most-listened track from that comeback--most days, its infectious, chaotic energy is exactly what I need to get by :)
7. #Twenty
(This one and above are in the category of songs I would die for btw!!) Look, I just LOVE mean girl music! This is a song that barely manages to hold itself together--luckily, it has the Itzy members to give it some semblance of being a... something? (Whatever it is, I can't help but sing along, so here we are.)
8. Cherry
Minimalistic choruses for the win! Again, their charisma really gets to shine here.
9. Loco
Look, I know Itzy aren't anywhere near the best vocalists out there, but they sound SO strong on this song! I think it's one of their best vocally, and Itzy really is one of the first groups that comes to mind when I think about my favorite vocalists. So I love this one :)
10. Love Is
Yay, a sentimental coming-of-age movie pop ballad thing! I've heard better examples of this vibe (see: Playing Games by Anna of the North), but this still makes me feel Feelings, so I come back to it quite a bit!

Deep Dive: Let's Go Find Some Fun!
GEHENA Labs has uploaded a subtitled video of "Let's Go Find Some Fun!" and since it's my favorite memoria story, I'm going to talk a whooole lot about it.
Yeah, this picture isn't from "Let's Go Find Some Fun!", but I'm gonna talk about Tazusa first, so...
I think Assault Lily is not very realistic in that, with a few notable exceptions, it rarely shows the girls suffering any mental consequences because of the battles they fight. They're teenagers; it feels to me like when other people, sometimes their friends and loved ones, get hurt and die right in front of them, those Lilies who are able to just brush it off and keep going ought to be an exceptional few and not the vast majority.
While it's nice in a way that the stories never revel in traumatizing the characters like some "dark magical girl" anime do, it's also a shame that they rarely attempt to explore how the grief and regret caused by death affects people, in the manner that Assault Lily Bouquet did. It was one of the things that made me fall in love with the setting in the first place.
There are exceptions to Lilies taking death in stride, and one of the more subtle ones is Andou Tazusa.
Tazusa is a complex character. Not all of her trauma is because of her experiences on the battlefield. She was tortured, experimented on, has nightmares of the past, and hates what she's become. But in Let's Go Find Some Fun!, I think she is clearly experiencing a different kind of trauma from all that: survivor's guilt.
"Earlier today, we were so delighted. Having so much fun. Is it really okay for us to be like that?"

She struggles to believe that, when other people have died in front of her eyes, she deserves to be happy. That she can be happy. And Mai contrasts her as living proof that Lilies don't have to feel that way.
This is very interesting when you use it to contextualize the first story event in Last Bullet which focused on Tazusa, Boosted Friend. Boosted Friend is a version of a story that first appeared in the original Team Hitotsuyanagi novel, and later also in League of Gardens and its manga adaptation (it's in chapter 8 of the manga.)
This story is that Tazusa, who can't be killed easily due to her regenerative abilities, at last fights a solitary battle where she's completely outmatched. It appears that death is about to come for her, and she welcomes it, because she thinks she's a monster and hates herself. But when Riri saves her and tells her that she isn't a monster, Tazusa finally starts to believe that life is worth living.
In most versions of this story, Tazusa is forced by GEHENA to fight this battle that will claim her life. In Boosted Friend, she goes to fight it of her own free will (sort of; she sets in motion the events that lead to it happening by purposefully returning to GEHENA, her one-time captors, and I very much doubt she failed to anticipate that she might die as a consequence.)
What possessed her to do that?
"The time I spent with everyone,
well, it was… quite enjoyable indeed.
Even for an empty shell like me, I feel as though something has finally sprouted inside of me.
That's why… Riri. I want you to stop following me from now on."

In Boosted Friend itself, none of the various reasons Tazusa claims to have (that it's necessary to atone for her father's misdeeds, that there's no escape from GEHENA even now that she's under Yurigaoka's protection, and that she's protecting the others in Team Hitotsuyanagi by returning to GEHENA) make much sense. Boosted Lilies like Tazusa have been described as often suffering from paranoia and mental instability, and it's tempting to chalk it all up to that.
But seeing Tazusa's mental state in Let's Go Find Some Fun! makes me wonder if there's something more to it, something she couldn't admit to herself during Boosted Friend. Maybe Tazusa doesn't believe she deserves the happiness and the peaceful life she's finally found as part of Team Hitotsuyanagi. Maybe it's her sense of guilt over having survived the experiments, and the battles she's fought as a Lily, that drove her to return to GEHENA.
It's just a theory. Maybe I should even call it a headcanon. But thinking of it that way elevates Boosted Friend from the worst version to the best version of Tazusa's story for me.
Of course, there's another focal character in Let's Go Find Some Fun!: Yoshimura Thi Mai.
Frankly, Mai's been treated even worse than Tazusa by Assault Lily as a franchise. She has never gotten a long-form story that focuses on her. The closest thing is Ensemble of the Eldren Valkyries, which is 1/3 about her at best.
So I can't really say I know how her mind works, just what it is that motivates her to be cheerful all of the time. I've talked to a friend who thinks it's all an act she puts on, like Shenlin's outward persona; something that Mai purposefully does so that she's never a burden on her friends, and so that she never has to show them what she's really feeling. I'm not sure.
What I do think Let's Go Find Some Fun! shows us is Mai's reason for getting involved with Tazusa.
"You're the sort who bottles everything up and tries to seem tough. And you know, I've been cozy with a certain other somebody like that for a long time, so I've got the hang of you types!"

The official Mai/Tazusa ship used to feel to me like they got pushed together because they were the only ones in Team Hitotsuyanagi not already shipped with anyone else, with their mutual love of cats being tacked onto them solely for the purpose of giving them some kind of connection to one another. But Let's Go Find Some Fun! finally made me warm up to them as a couple, and in that story, I think it's meaningful that Mai compares Tazusa to Yuyu.
In Ensemble of the Eldren Valkyries, we saw how much Mai regrets that she couldn't help Yuyu move on from her grief over Misuzu's death. We see that she harbors mixed (although mostly appreciative) feelings about Riri being the one who finally saved Yuyu. I think that in Tazusa, Mai sees someone who's in pain like Yuyu once was, and is determined not to leave her alone and make the same mistake that she did with Yuyu.
And that? That's a pretty solid basis for a ship (even if it's part theory, part headcanon.)

So this is kind of random, but a while back you had reblogged a post about fanfic authors' knowledge bleeding through into the work and mentioned that you were curious about if you did that. I've been contemplating that a little so I thought you might be interested in a response.
First, I'll say I don't think you do that in the way the OP was describing. I think you do an excellent job of meeting you audience where they're at and then building what knowledge you want us to have for the story to work. I feel like that comes down to exposition and you are great at exposition.
That being said, my undergrad major was in English and I feel like I've never been able to turn off the part of my brain that it always analyzing who the author is and what they're saying between the lines. Every author that's ever lived has put their own context into writing so like it's not a bad thing. But I thought I'd tell you the things that I've guessed about who you are based on your stories.
1) I think you have good parents and a nice family. Idk if this is actually true or not, obviously people can write about good families without having one, but there's something about the language you use and the assumption that the natural order is for parents to be selfless and set boundaries and for families to care about each other. I think the parenting in hof definitely made me think that, but also trying to think back I think I thought about it in the two stories with Elliot's sister and maybe hov or monsters or even haunted (I love haunted!!). I don't think this is a bad thing at all, I think just coming from a place of having a fairly dysfunctional family myself I had thought "I think this girl has a nice family."
2) I think you are not Catholic. Again this is something that I think is different about us and so it stood out to me. I think Catholics tend to just be a bit more practical about their religion and it feels a little mystical when you talk about Elliot's Catholicism. To be clear, I love the way you write this. I love any time you engage with Elliot's religion. I just think more Catholics aren't really engaging with their religion all that much. Like it's more about just doing what you're told? Idk I guess I'd say it reads as either an outsider, or super devout and given the rest of the context I do not think you are a super devout Catholic. Elliot is though so that really could just be down to good writing and I'm making things up.
3) I guessed you were gay. The way you write you queer characters is so perfect to me. Like I think people get bogged down in trying to make queer characters seem normal and organic without realizing that queer characters ARE normal and organic. Like can straight writers write good gay character? Absolutely. But do they usually? Eh. I'm trying to think if this assumption pre-dates Jimmy from hof. Was Elliot's new partner from hov gay? I can't remember when I started thinking that, but it's been around a while.
4) I thought you might be British. This one is funny. Idk if it was just because a lot of people on ao3 are or if there's something else. I think you just have a good vocabulary and I'm crazy sometimes.
Anyway, now that I've written this I'm not sure if I should send it. I love your writing so much and I'd die if you thought I was being critical, I just was thinking this was a fun/funny way to engage with the material. Okay I'm going to send it, but please know none of this was intended to be negative at all. You writing is such a gift to me. And also my experience with literary analysis is that the people doing the analyzing are often the most biased, short-sighted people of them all and we tend to completely miss the point more often than not.

I do have good parents and a nice family. And that's precious to me, I've always felt incredibly lucky bc of them, and so when I write about family - esp about Elliot and Olivia making a family - a lot of the time it is bc I want to give something good to the characters, I want to make family good for them, even if their family of origin hurt. And yeah a lot of my relationships with my own siblings informed the fics about Elliot's sister. My mother was the best person I have ever known, and a lot of the time when I'm writing about family I'm really just writing about her, and how much I admired her generosity and her heart and the work she put in to make family something worth having.
And I am not Catholic I'm not anything but I was raised evangelical and I'm a melodramatic bitch with a background in classics so I always go big on the mysticism 🤣
And I am really happy my gayness bleeds thru 🤣🤣🤣I honestly can't remember now but yeah I do think Elliot's partner in hov (Sam) was gay.
And I am not British but I spent a good idk like. Five years writing fic for British and Australian shows and the Australian show I wrote the most for was set in the 60s, so the pacing and tone and turns of phrase were different. I had myself trained to use "mobile" instead of "cell phone" and as many of the other little Britishisms as I could remember and it still crops up from time to time. I also always use the British spelling for grey rather than the American gray bc I just think grey looks nicer. So that was particularly intuitive even if the conclusion wasn't correct the evidence was there 🤣

That part is a capacity to feel joy. Nay, it is the boldness to feel pure glee. And, by the time she regains that part of her, she will have been too late. She will have missed out on the chance to rejoice in the best parts of life. But she must know that there is hope for her. There is a cure for all afflictions and, no matter how late it comes, it will come, and it will heal her.
Present Day
Everything became hazy. My mind was heavy as is. The hospital beds were uncomfortable to sleep on, but my exhausted person did not care. I was barely falling asleep when I heard Wisteria's worried and caring voice, barely a whisper now, say, "Thank you so much for asking me to check in on her. Poor girl, she's gone through so much. I'm glad I was able to get her out alive."

I was wondering. Has Steph ever interacted with Conner, Bart or Cassie or any of the YJ in general? If so what do they think about each other and vice versa?
There isn't too much because - tell me if you've heard this one before - Stephanie isn't allowed to have meaningful relationships outside of Gotham, but you can extrapolate a few things to say yes they are friendly. It's just never really shown in any meaningful way in the panels. She's friendliest with Cassie and Conner, but it's not hard to assume Bart too because honestly they're a pack animal and you can't have two without the third. So like... brief overview of Steph with YJ/Titans:
She was an extended member of the original YJ team, popping up in the last arc as a member called by Cassie to aid the team. She's seen dancing with Conner at a party. That's all very good. Shallow, but sweet (side note: don't ask what Courtney is talking about in this panel I'm just assuming nothing good).
2004-2008 DC really had it in for Steph, so the only two instances of interaction we have is 1) Conner being violent to her and threatening her because she has the audacity to not want to speak to him. I cut Conner some slack because he's going through a life crisis and is about to die in a few months but at the same time... none of that was Steph's problem. Like damn Conner you can't just go shaking girls off 13 storey buildings and yell at them even if you are feeling lonely.
When Steph comes round with Tim to help him resign from the Titans, Cassie assumes she's there as part of a recruitment drive the Titans are undertaking, and has no problem with her joining. They do have two very awkward non-conversations but honestly Stephanie is just a really awkward person in general who isn't very good at making friends on the best of days, so the whole 'my teammate brought his suddenly not dead ex with him who I haven't spoken to in two years to a meeting' is a supremely awkward set up I'd say.
Steph apparently had a good enough relationship, perhaps through Kara, for other Titans and JSA girls like M'gann or Courtney to pop up and help her right at the end of her Batgirl run. We never see this develop. So, a cool moment. Earned? Ehhhhhh.
Because Steph is not present for most of the New 52, we dodged that bullet, however Cassie is shown mourning for Steph after Tim goes kaboom in early Rebirth. But it's not exactly the words of a close friend. 'That Spoiler girl,' she says.
In YJ, clearly we missed some character relationship stuff, because Kon, Bart and Cass are all delighted to see Steph (or Earth 3 version of her), which... I don't know where that came from, but eh. Who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth. Cassie in particular seems over the moon to see her. Blondies stick together hehe.
The fact that Kelli is smiling too like she has never met Steph once which just makes me think Tim was running his mouth whilst YJ were reality hopping big time.
Finally, in Urban Legends, we get confirmation that apparently Kon and Steph text and call each other independently. Maybe all they do is talk about Tim, maybe they have a relationship outside of their pathetic little meow meow pal, who knows, but it's something.
So! Current status is: they're casual friends, but fuck you if you want to see it develop on panel. Just take our word for it. They like each other.
Honestly I'll take it. Anything for Steph to have some kind of relationship with her peers that isn't Tim or Cass.

You know, I’ve been thinking abt villain/redemption discourse and I want to propose a challenge. I call it the SU Test. How many shows do you know that actually give every single character a chance to heal and be better? And I do mean everyone. No deaths. There needs to be antagonists and/or “problematic” characters. Any piece of media is fine. Anyone is welcome to play. Ready? Go! (Btw really like this blog!)

I'm gonna give this challenge a shot! Chose animated shows and movies.
Let's see if everyone got "the Steven Universe treatment," a trope which villain-redemption haters claim is "saturating shows with redemption arcs galore." (Wut? Lol)
In Steven Universe, none of the villains were killed off nor punished through retributive means that prevented the characters from getting a second chance/improving as people.
Will this criteria apply to the shows on my list? Let's find out!
Note: I will only be mentioning villains who were punished (non-restoratively; i.e., not allowed to get better) or killed off. Even one instance of these outcomes disqualifies a story from receiving a Steven Universe star of approval. ⭐
Finally, Marvel and DC cartoons won't appear on the list. Teen Titans (2003) will be the sole exception, however.
