finding a new podcast to listen to is so fucking hard when you have specific ass taste and are scared of things that might disappoint you

#i want a podcast that is not too high-stakes and not too boring #either non-fiction or a not too well produced ttrpg or a fiction podcast where it's mostly someone telling a story #for non-fiction it has to either be a topic i'm already interested in Or it has to be structured like it's for casual listeners/beginners #for ttrpg it Has to have silly goofing off time but also feature a lot of roleplaying But i don't want a lot of sound effects #and i would prefer it not to be dnd/pathfinder/similar systems that drag out and micromanage fight scenes #for fiction i need it to be somewhat fantasy related but not so much that you need to pay attention to every single name and detail #to understand how the world works. and i want a story told by a narrator that Says when things happen and doesn't leave me to guess #with the help of the sound design. think like tma wtnv eskew gotf sort of stuff #i Love the silt verses and the white vault but i get so frustrated listening to them because sometimes there's just a bunch of noise #that you're meant to interpret. and i listen to these from my phone while doing other shit so i'm not gonna pay attention to random noises #anyway if anyone has anything please yell abt ur podcast recs to me

re: that last post i'm gonna be needlessly bitchy for a sec but since i often saw "wtnv walked so tma could run" as a sentiment specifically like well. mostly they're apples and oranges, but mostly wtnv is better written. i say this as someone who stopped listening to wtnv around year 8 mainly bc of narrative issues

but also in terms of like, central romantic relationships? jonmartin is barely anything compared to cecilos. jonmartin felt way underdeveloped and like something that just happened as opposed to cecil and carlos falling in love and building a life together the way they did

part of it was structural though like writing quality aside ofc something like wtnv will have more time to explore and develop a relationship than something like tma

So...definitely tore through the Magnus Archives podcast and finished it a few days ago.

My. Gosh.

So yeah that's rewired my whole entire brain and taken a place as one of my forever favorite story sagas. I've never been into horror before but oh my. Enthralling. I have @thirdchildart to thank for introducing me to it since her storyboards were so freaking good I simply had to find out what it came from.

Anyway. I don't know if I'll be making fanart of my own or not, but I did cave in and made a playlist. I'll be tinkering with it for a while probably, refining the song choices, and eventually organizing it semi-chronologically, but anyway I just wanted to share in case anyone wants to share my brainworms. i’m sorry but elias’s characterization in his first appearance is sending me into fits, he sounds sooooooo stuffy (and for the jonelias girlies apparently he calls jon ‘jonathan’ even in regular conversation do with that what y’all will) and he seems so conciliatory and familiar enough with his employees that they’re on first name basis with him but vaguely paternal but in an irritated way and knowing what we know about him with the benefit of hindsight makes it the funniest thing put to audio

the dilemma

i want to listen to tmagp so badly. like. i'm seeing all these posts about it and it seems so cool and i also want to be a part of the weekly excitement and the theories and stuff. i really want it, now.

but i'm also only on like mag 60 and i don't want to bingewatch tma, it's the kind of thing i want to consume slowly and really enjoy it. i want it to be with me for a long time. i really don't want to rush it.

but i also don't want to listen to the sequel before finishing the original thing.

I really like InCo but the episode numbering on Spotify is my nemesis

#First I thought there was just one season with episodes numbered from 1 to 20- or 30-something #Then I neared s1ep30 and found out there was a second season #And now I think there's 3 or 4? #Spotify on android is already atrocious about scrolling through podcast episodes #I gave on my tma re-listen just because it took me so much time to just scroll through to the middle episodes #and the app kept resetting my position :( #But yeah InCo is good even though the sound mixing is rough sometimes #Storywise I have no issues so far and I'm impressed how much worldbuilding and character fleshing out has been achieved through >10 min eps #InCo #Podcasts #incopod #Also hi this is praise ok?
