The One-liner War
Summary: The greatest, and grossest, war began the day April brought you to the lair. Will there be carnage? Or will there be love?
Tumblr media
P.S. I wasn't supposed to write this till later, but rewatching the movie made me want to give our darling blue-clad turtle some well-deserved love! Here is some Rise!Leo x Reader and I hope you enjoy (≧∇≦). Also, thank you so much for all the love on my last story!!
P.P.S The gif isn't mine!
“Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”
Those were the first words he had said to you when you met. He thought he could pull on his face man attitude and charm you. But little did he know, that you had a pocket of those one-liners yourself.
“No, but you wouldn’t happen to have a bandaid on you, would you? Because I just scrapped my hands falling for you.”
He was STUNNED, to say the least. Cue Donnie audibly gagging in the background. May or may not have been the worst day of his life. Mikey, being the supportive brother that he is, was trying not to combust with this cuteness. And Raph, as the leader and eldest brother of the team, had no idea what was happening. From then on, this was the normal interaction between the two of you. Every time April brought you over, Leo would lay on the charm. THICK. And you, in turn, would lay yours. EVEN THICKER.
“Do you need a loan? Cuz you got my interest.”
“Well, it seems to me that YOU missed your payment. Because here’s your fine.”
The smug look on your face as you passed him a mirror. You definitely had the moves. Leo wouldn’t admit it, but you were smoother than Donnie’s purple satin jacket. But Leo wasn’t gonna back down. No one. And he means NO ONE! Out faces the face man. The war is ON. It was as gross as it was cute. One-liners were thrown and post-it notes were shared. The rest of the mad dogs found themselves trapped in the crossfire. One time, Raph cracked open a fortune cookie meant for Leo.
“I don’t know which looks sharper. You or your ōdachi.”
Raph didn’t get it. But he was kind enough to relay your message. Let’s just say that Leo’s ego went through the roof. The ‘I might die today, but at least I’ll die looking super fly’ attitude he’s known for, but increased tenfold. The team did not have a fun mission that day.
“When will this gross show of affection end?!”
“Come on Donnie! Feel the love in the air.”
“I do. And it’s disgusting. RAPH! For the love of SCIENCE! Make them stop.”
Squaring up, looking big and gruff, Raph walks up to Leo. With a deep breath in...
“So...Leo...buddy, ya know...about this thing that’s happening between the two of you...can't you...I dunno...tone it down? Maybe?”
That high pitch squee you hear in the background? That’s the sound of Donnie dying. And Leo, being the sass that he is, only gave his brother a shrug before going back to his Jupiter Jim comic. But little did the team know, Leo had the perfect one-liner in store for you. The line that will set his title as the TRUE face man in stone. One that he was sure was going to blow your mind with his sweet, delicious, smoothness.
The next day, April came by for movie night with you in tow. You coming down the stairs was like a star descending from above. He might say it jokingly, with all his sass and attitude. But Leo really did find you mesmerizing. That first line you threw at him a year before, left him falling for you since. And he has been falling HARD. But now was not the time to feel giddy. Now was the time to pull out the big guns.
“Hey, Leo~”
“Hey, you~. Are you ready to get one-lined?”
“You know it Leo. Your game has been getting rough lately.”
RUDE! How dare you say he was rough. Leo? LEO?! He was smooth with ten o’s.
“Well, you might not be lovin this smoothness, but I’m definitely lovin you.”
...
Silence. Just like he planned. But what he didn’t plan was you, glowing as red as the bandana that covered Raph’s face. It spread from your shoulders up to the tips of your ears. And Leo swears he can see the smoke wheezing out of your ears.
“Are you ok-“
“Do you mean it?”
“Wuh?”
...
“Do you love me?”
Letting the words sink in, it was now Leo’s turn to become bright red. So he might not have thought about that one thoroughly as he thought he did. It sounded less cringe in his head. He tried to sass out a reply. Tried to stutter out whatever charm he could from the interaction. But every second he couldn’t utter a proper word made your face paler and paler. Till the flustered expression that you cutely had slowly faded to one of hurt and disappointment.
“Of course, you don’t. It’s just a pick-up line, right? Sorry for...being...stupid.”
“No wai-“
“I’ll catch up with the other guys.”
Pushing past Leo, you run towards the group already seated in front of the projector. You keep your face ducked down to hide your shame and embarrassment. So maybe you found the blue-clad turtle charming, witty, and funny. So maybe you had an itty-bitty crush on the said turtle. THIS wasn’t how you planned on getting rejected. Heck, there wasn’t even a plan to say anything at all. But this, THIS, was the worst way possible for him to know. And the WORST way to be let down. Leo, who was close on your tail was about to call for you when he was shushed, very harshly by a very leathery pink tail that belonged to his dad. Ten minutes in, he tries again only to be met with Mikey’s pizza oily hand slapped to his face. Gross. Thirty minutes in, he tries again. Whispering this time in hopes of not being heard. Only to be shushed by April.
An hour in and he was getting fidgety. You barely looked up from your ducked posture. The hurt was still so apparently seen from your expression. Leo just couldn’t stand it anymore. He called your name and glared at Donnie for shushing him. You, of course, refused to acknowledge him. So, in a last-ditch effort, he shakily reaches for your hand. That caught your attention and you whipped your head towards him. Happy to have you finally look at him, he motioned to his room with his head. You frowned at the idea but relented when he gently took your hand in his. His eyes begging you.
You both stood up, much to everyone’s irritation, and made your way towards his room hand in hand. Once inside, instead of letting you go, Leo instead pulls you into a hug.
“Look, what I said earlier, I might not have meant it...”
The crease between your eyebrows immediately furrows.
“But it doesn’t mean that it was a lie. I do love you. But pick-up lines weren’t exactly how I planned on letting you know.“
Letting you go, Leo moves his hands from your back to your face to lift it to him. And like before, it was bright red from your neck to the tips of your ears. But unlike before, you had a cute pout on your soft lips. Softly whispering your name, the next words that came out of his beak made your heart hammer more than any of his one-liners ever could.
“I love you.”
...
“I might not be lovin the smoothness, but I’m definitely lovin you too.”

Rebels Rewatch: “Droids In Distress”
Wacky droid hijinks and nostalgia abound, let’s get into it.
Now, this is an episode that for a different show would have been used as the pilot.  It’s got all the earmarks of a weekly serial testing out its tone and character dynamics, while acting with confidence like those are already established.
Note that this isn’t a bad thing.  It reminds me most of Teen Titans’s early Season One, there’s a certain kind of charm and innocence and an earnest attempt at convincing you, “Don’t worry, this will be a FUN show! :D”
Frankly starting off lighter eases you better into the world and characters so when things do get more serious and dramatic later you’re more invested because you’ve had more time to get endeared to the characters.
See also, Star Trek: Lower Decks, which had the audacity to end its Season Two on a cliffhanger, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY SILLY COMFORT SHOW, YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE STAKES!
Anyway we open rather appropriately In Media Res with the notes of the TIE Fighter Attack track from A New Hope, which auditorily puts us right into that OT headspace. :)
Once again the tight writing very quickly establishes the situation: The Ghost is on the run from the Empire, in need of cash flow and supplies, they have to occasionally run weapons for someone shady, Ezra is Force Sensitive, and--perhaps most importantly for the later story arc--Kanan has been avoiding training him.
Boy I miss concise exposition like this.  So much story is already set up in some densely-worded dialogue.  (Not just Kanan’s reluctance to teach Ezra but also Zeb’s misgivings with working for Vizago given the uncertain nature of the weapons he deals in.)
Also don’t think I missed Ezra being most concerned with the fact that they are running out of food.
RIGHT SO I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW GIDDY I WAS THE FIRST TIME I WATCHED THIS BECAUSE ICKLE MINI TARI LOVED THE STAR TOURS RIDE AT DISNEYWORLD.  Seriously it was one of my top favorites.  Never rode the updated version (haven’t been back to DW in years) but the classic version was iconic for me.
And this is a cameo/Easter Egg that actually works in context because you don’t need to know anything about this droid pilot, he works organically in the story as he is without any background knowledge required.
Unlike many of the other cameos we could name in certain other Star Wars shows *COUGH*.
Threepio and Artoo on the flipside... Okay, I’m not quite sure how to articulate that it still works better than in aforementioned other shows but it does.  Again Imma chalk it up to, they just fit more organically into the plot and around these characters and also advance the bigger plot by introducing a thread that suggests the crew is going to be connected to the larger Rebellion, which pays off this Season Finale... instead of being a sideshow diversion disconnected from the main characters that may or may not make another appearance down the line sometime.  Maybe.
Side note of appreciation for Chopper gleefully taking right to his role of Public Nuisance Annoying Everyone (But Especially Ezra).  I don’t think there was much acting involved for either of them lol.
Tumblr media
XD
Still love how bouncy and dynamic the character animation was these early episodes.
Has that fun kid-friendly feel that lures you into a false sense of security lol.
Our first hint at Sabine’s backstory, cleverly hidden as part of her cover story.
I kinda like that Garel is close enough to Lothal that a very small shuttle is able to just ferry people back and forth in like twenty minutes.
Lol Zeb whapping Sabine because she’s laying it on too much.
One of the nice things about having low-stakes plots in the beginning is it allows room for lovely little breathing scenes like this one with Ezra leaping across the rooftops.  It’s not plot necessary, we could have easily just cut to him arriving at the other hanger, but it’s just... pleasant.
There’s some nice mood music (a very slowed down mellow Main Titles theme), some very mild action, and we feel a satisfied little thrill along with Ezra seeing just what he’s capable of already just knowing that he’s Force Sensitive.  This is the first time he’s consciously tapped into the Force and it’s just a little bit exciting.
Tumblr media
Just look at his face gkjhgkjh I’m so proud of him and all he did was some parkour.
Subtle animation detail appreciation: Zeb visibly shudders backing away from the crates.
I love Threepio throwing some indignant shade Sabine’s way with his “[...] if she is an amateur.” line.
We know Zeb is the muscle  of the group, that’s already established, but it’s still obvious in the voice acting and Zeb’s intense tossing of the Stormtroopers that he’s more agitated than normal.
Threepio being oblivious and fussy as per usual.
Please enjoy the Fridge Horror of knowing that the Empire was planning to mass-produce T7 ion disruptors and probably not for their starship-crippling properties. :)
Tumblr media
Ezra immediately backing off the hostility once he knows why Zeb’s upset. <333  He’s such an empath I love him.
See this is why I don’t understand people who hate Ezra.  Was he a little bratty this episode?  Sure, but also see how he lets that drop out of compassion once he understands the situation.
Also Ahsoka came onto the stage waaaaaaaaay brattier and a smug know-it-all to boot, just admit y’all hate the kid-appeal characters and refuse to let them be stupid and dumb in order to have some character growth.
Hera’s frustration when she hears that Kanan hasn’t been training Ezra. <333
Lol and love how there’s an immediate follow-up in the next scene.  I want to see the beginning of that conversation.
Tumblr media
Pryce gets name-dropped here for the first time.  Predictably Threepio is making a muck of things.  See, this is why no one tells you anything or trusts you with the mission Threepio.
Ezra has clearly dealt with underworld figures like Vizago before lol.
I do wonder if all of this is just a massive Batman Gambit by Artoo, because he seems to be completely unfazed by anything that’s happening.
The AT-DPs get quite a bit of focus in this series and I think their ubiquitous presence in the first season preps us mentally for the heavy upgrade that is the AT-ATs.
Love this shot tracking Hera as she shoots at the AT-DP, very frenetic with the blocking and the camera movements.
The duel between Kallus and Zeb is honestly better than some of the lightsaber fights don’t @ me you know it’s true.
This music cue when they launch the disruptors is a unique one, particular to only this moment I think, but I like it.
Aaaaaaand the first of many times Kallus gets yeeted with the Force.  Lol.
See Sequel Trilogy, this is the general powerset of someone who only just learned they were Force Sensitive and hasn’t had any training. /salt
Tumblr media
Kanan seems very surprised and amazed by what Ezra can already do without any formal guidance.  This’ll play into his insecurities later, his whole thing about how Ezra’s powers are growing faster than he can teach.
I think it’s safe to assume Ezra had a lot of latent natural talent that he’d been unconsciously using this whole time that just needed a tiny push to begin manifesting in earnest.
Again, though, Sequel Trilogy, all we unlock is basic shit like Force Sense, Force Jump, and Force Push.
Not surprising Kanan went to fetch Zeb, he’s about the only one even close to Zeb’s height lol.
Kanan looks so proud of Ezra, aww.
More lovely work with the subtle expressions; Kanan’s smile fades and his eyes drop a bit.  Like he realizes, “Oh boy, now I gotta face all my inadequacies and problems.”  Love it.  Love that it’s episode two and we’ve already established so many of the upcoming character arcs.
Hi Bail!
Luke’s theme closing us out once again, apropos given where we are and who we’re with.
For our first “official” non-pilot episode, this is a solid entry.  As I said, establishes a whole bunch about the characters and their relationship dynamics and upcoming arcs and plot points.  It’s also very fun, sets the general early tone of “Adventure and excitement but not too much... yet.” and the animation continues to impress in small ways, mostly the dynamic shot choices, camera angles and movements and the subtlety of emotion displayed on faces.
Coming back to this one always just leaves me with a warm feeling like, “Aahhh yes, back when everything was innocent.”  It definitely plays up the nostalgic feeling of the OT, which was always one of Rebels’ strengths as a show.
Next time, one of the many “filler” episodes that come back in an important and unexpected way in the finale.  You’d think, given the number of Avatar: The Last Airbender alums on the project, fandom would know better than to discount the seemingly light-hearted low-stakes disconnected episodes. XD

Rewatching Chapter 18 of The Mandalorian, “The Mines of Mandalore”, and blabbering away incoherently!
Ooh, we got the Ship o haj Mandalorians theme in the recap! That song fucking slaps.
Peli didn’t replace her tooth, and I love it
Oh Peli, never change your Jawa-loving ways
“No complaints” = HIGH praise from this guy
She’s so proud of him!
Grogu is GOING TO TALK THIS SEASON, he is! Peli called it
Not only is R5 scared of going to Mandalore, so is the gonk droid in the background who slowly is backing away during this conversation
Din: “let’s go on an adventure!” Grogu: “dad there are fireworks RIGHT HERE”
I love absolutely everything about Din explaining Mandalore to Grogu. Admitting he’s never been there either? My freaking heart. “Our people”? Crying forever
Man people really do need to give R5 a rest, he’s doing what he can okay
I love the spookiness of Mandalore and the tense music. The whole place is unsettling, from the glassed surface to the bad weather to the deserted feels
I like that the helmet does have pressurization capability! Stuff I had headcanoned as being correct is coming to life.
Grogu really is talking a lot more with more sentence like structure. What is his first word gonna be???
Din is struggling even worse with the Darksaber than he was in Book of Boba Fett. Why? I love it. I am so excited to see what the narrative tells us about it! It’s interesting because the Armorer said he couldn’t use it while his mind was conflicted… yet Din probably thinks his mind is as clear as it’s been a long time. He’s on a mission to redeem himself in the mines. He has Grogu back with him once more. What could he be conflicted about now? (Unless he’s secretly got a religious crisis brewing in his head in which case I am HERE. FOR. THAT.)
CRAB
POISON CRAB
Does it just eat Mandalorians? Is it a former Mandalorian who could only survive the glassing in this giant droid carapace, like a Mandalorian Big Daddy?
Grogu’s going to be an ace pilot some day, isn’t he?? <3
Poor Bo. Fell asleep in her throne room again. Her blanket looks cozy though.
Bo about to march out there like “get the FUCK off my lawn” and then being very surprised
Poor Bo again, having to see the ruin of her planet :( why does this keep happening to Star Wars women! Leia, Cara, Bo…. I’m loving her so far this season. She does bitter and wounded so well!
I love that Bo is actually building Grogu up! Telling him he’s good with the Force <3 <3 <3
Damn Bo, look at these mad skills!
First person to call Din Grogu’s dad? Now he just needs to do it himself!
Bo has serious Darksaber skilllllllz, will she be his teacher this season?
I also love that this season they have finally leaned into Din having a name. Will it ever be as recognizable as Boba Fett or Han Solo to the casual fan? I’m not sure, but I’m happy they’re doing it. It would start to get pretty weird, I guess, to have everyone call him Mando in a season with 100 Mandalorians.
“Your kid” <3 Aww complimenting Grogu.
Getting serious Deep Road vibes here and I love it.
No pog soup? There’s something important here and I’m not sure either of them realizes it. Maybe Din realizes he really was raised strangely when he thinks about it. Maybe Bo realizes Din isn't just weird, he's genuinely missing a lot of vital information/it was deliberately kept from him.
The way Din was overwhelmed with emotion hearing about Bo-Katan’s father’s sacrifice. Don’t get any ideas, Din.
Interpretative sign, hell yeah!
Din is so reverent. Even Bo-Katan’s like, “shit, dude’s going through it.”
Mythosaur tried to eat him, right? How else could he have sank that quickly?
Mythosauuuuuuuurrrrr!!!! So cool and just the perfect amount of mystery!
BUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Awww man, Joseph Shirley took over the score from Ludwig Goransson? It says musical themes by Goransson, but score by Shirley, in the credits. Joseph Shirley did Book of Boba Fett and while I liked some of those songs a lot (Faster Than a Fauthier is a delight) I could do with out all the “Boba FETT!!!” choruses. Hoping this does not bode ill, I loved the first 2 seasons’ score so much and listen to it regularly.
Very excited for next week now! And genuinely having no idea what’s next since Din skipped the side quests and went straight to advancing the story.

could you write about how if copia/ any of the papas and ghouls find out that you love something super nerdy? (like lord of the rings, Star Wars, that kind of thing) love your writing btw :)
Just using Papas 1-4 for this and in the more "hc" style. GN!Reader
Papa Emeritus I:
Honestly? He thinks it’s so cute
Will buy you anything that reminds him of you
But please remember that he’s also going to be using any obsession for this to his advantage
“Ah, girasole! Come, come! Look what I picked up for you on my outing!”
Do you know why he’s doing this? Because he’s a cunning old man that doesn’t want you seeing his latest plant purchase
So while you’re distracted with your new gift, his ghouls are in the background carrying the sad-looking plants inside
He does, however, love hearing you talk about whatever comes to mind
He’ll sit there, pruning his plants and asking you questions to indulge you
He doesn’t always pay attention whenever watching the movies with you, but he does remember your favorite parts and characters
Papa Emeritus II:
He has no idea what you’re talking about in the beginning
You’ll have to explain the plot before the cogs start turning
“I see. I believe I’ve heard of that before. It was never my style.”
He’ll have you sit in his lap whenever he has downtime and just let you ramble away
He asks questions here and there but, for the most part, he’s just content on listening to you
Don’t be offended if he ends up falling asleep on you. It’s not that you’re boring him. He just finds your voice very soothing
Occasionally your favorite will “coincidentally” come on TV whenever he’s swamped with work
He does it so you won’t miss him as much
He’ll also occasionally take breaks and stand right beside the couch, watching some of the movie with his arms crossed like one of those cliché dad poses
Papa Emeritus III:
Oh, he knows what you’re talking about. He’s gone to see it
Is it his style? No. Will he bully you for it? No.
He’ll let you talk about it, but he’s zoning out the whole time.
“I’m sorry, amore. So many things on my mind… it’s hard to keep everything in one place, you know?”
He does, however, buy you little trinkets to show that he does care. He might not be able to verbally support you, but actions are louder than words, right?
Also will have his ghouls discreetly hover around you (and maybe go through your phone) to see if you’ve put anything on your watchlist so he can buy it for you
Expect him to send you memes, too
He might not 100% get them, but he knows you will and that’s good enough for him
He will dress up as your favorite character only on Halloween, and that’s providing you two aren’t busy
Papa Emeritus IV/Copia:
Oh honey, why do you think he fell for you?
This poor boy shares your same interests and he’s so excited he gets to gush about everything to someone else
Sister Imperator would let him watch everything, but she was never interested in it herself. The ghouls didn’t care, either, and well… Copia’s lacking proper social skills for a reason
You two always set aside time to either rewatch your favorite movies and/or shows and neither of you will watch without the other
So be prepared for whenever he goes away on tour
Will complain at least once whenever in a call with you about how you guys are missing your little date night
Please reassure him. He genuinely feels bad and feels like it’s his fault you won’t indulge
Like Terzo, he’ll also send you memes. But this time, you can send your own back and you can both laugh
The second he gets home and gets everything put back, you two are having a marathon surrounded by snacks and fluffy blankets. Sister Imperator is even nice enough to let you two have your moment

Why Star Wars Attack of the Clones Wasn’t That Bad
A lot of times Attack of the Clones get slack from Star Wars (especially Original Trilogy fans) but it honestly was a decent film even if it wasn’t great for Star Wars standards.
1. The Prequels faced a very high standard
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, the Original Trilogy is one of the best trilogies of all time. Many consider it to be the best trilogy in cinema history. They were known for having great acting, stunning graphics, and a compelling story. This means people expected to see all the same from the Prequels and anything it fell short on caused people to ignore it’s strengths.
I’d honestly argue Attack of the Clones had better pacing than A New Hope. I’m not saying it was a better movie but for me, many of the scenes that took place in the middle of the film (in the Death Star) were dull. We also need to keep in mind the Vader vs Ben Kenobi duel was poor and the movie made stromtroopers look like a joke with them constantly missing. But nostalgia can fix many things. Don’t get me wrong, the start of the ANH was very strong and the end of it (trench run and celebration scene) brought about some of the best moments in cinema history.
2. It reduced the sting of Jar Jar
Tumblr media
The main reason and many viewers enjoy Attack of the Clones more than the Phantom Menace is because of Jar Jar Binks. That character had constant, over-the-top comedic scenes that just weren’t funny. Many thought he killed the movie and Attack of the Clones was at least watchable in most scenes. More so, it made such an annoying character become a mature senator. He ended up being more mature than Anakin!
3. People Took it Too Seriously
Tumblr media
This honestly is the biggest reason people didn’t enjoy the film as much as they could have. Attack of the Clones is easily one of the funniest if not the funniest Star Wars movie of all time. I watched it as a kid, so I was able to see this, and I watched it again as an adult and enjoyed it even more. It isn’t a Rogue One type of story and shouldn’t be treated that way.
4. We get to see Anakin simp as soon as it starts
youtube
When I rewatch, this scene always has me cracking up. Perhaps some people had gotten so old that they forgot what it was like to be young. If you understand what it’s like to be a teenager and young adult, then much of what Anakin does should make you laugh. I’ve known so many Anakins in my life and honestly don’t know what we’d do without them bringing flavor in this world.
Anakin loses it with Obi Wan all because he’s flipping out about some girl. But it’s not just about that, he’s a young man who wants to prove who he is. Like many recent high school grads in the work force and college graduates. Anakin at this time was 19, still a teenager who wants to rush too quickly which gets him into trouble. I myself have had to learn this lesson so many times, to slow down.
Every time I hear Anakin impulsively say, “WHY??!!” I bust out. Even Jar Jar gulps in fear when he witnesses Anakin’s outburst. And pay close attention, you’ll notice Anakin is still staring at Padme when everyone else has moved on. Lucas knew exactly what he was doing lmao.
5. Anakin is so realistic
youtube
People like to make fun of prequel dialogue even if they believed Anakin was a decent or good actor, but I have another argument, the dialogue wasn’t even that bad. At least not as bad as many people were making it out to be. For me, realistic acting is never bad acting because the point of acting is to mimic reality.
Let us think about Anakin’s past shall we. In the last movie he was a slave. Taken away to join a group of detached monks for ten years. For all his highschool age and younger years he never learned how to deal with women he liked. He never kissed a girl, probably had no idea what flirting was, and wasn’t trained on dating etiquette. Whether people would like to admit it or not most of us wouldn’t figure out and many of us still haven’t in better circumstances found out how to talk to people we are attracted to.
I knew awkward adults in college and high school when it came to women. Why then is it strange for Anakin to be awkward when they who at least had more opportunities to learn about dating approaches were just as awkward?
Tumblr media
PADME!!!
6.The first conflict was fun
Tumblr media
I did not watch Attack of the Clones in theaters, it was a bit before my time. The first Star Wars movie I watched in theaters was Revenge of the Sith, but I was still quite young then. I don’t know how people initially reacted when the saw the movie. but it had a strong start. There was a conflict, we knew a bounty hunter wanted to hunt down Padme. Anakin had simp tension, and an epic chase ensued throughout the Corsucant streets.
7. Anakin killing the Tuskens was also realistic
youtube
Remember when I said Anakin was only 19? There are soldiers who at 19 snapped and wiped out villages. Killing men, women, and children. More so, Anakin himself is a former child soldier. Who was recruited at 9. Jedi in the Clone Wars TV series fight at 14. Anakin in a legends comic killed someone at 10 years old. Perhaps that could have been more fleshed out, but when you are fighting at such a young age your mind is at risk.
Not to mention they just killed his mother in cold blood. I also loved the scene itself. Seeing Anakin rage and slash up Tuskens was great. I thought his acting was amazing. He was clearly ticked off and people often blame others when big incidents happen (like how he blamed Kenobi). Some people criticize Padme for staying with Anakin knowing he slaughtered tuskens of all ages. But Padme’s reaction was realistic.
I recommend people watch a movie called “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” about Tina Turner. It’s incredibly underrated. Women stay with abusive men all the time. In this case, she had a clear way to justify it because they killed his mother and Tuskens had terrorized the local villages for years. The Tuskens themselves have probably cleaned out households, so while Anakin’s actions weren’t justifiable they are not surprising and remember Anakin is from Tatooine.
For all we know, he may have heard bad stories about them for years even while he was gone away as a Jedi. He might have been anxious about his mother well before the movie.
8, Jango Fett vs Obi Wan
Tumblr media
This fight was epic and Jango gave us everything Boba didn’t in ROTJ, an amazing fight! Jango was the first to really show us that you don’t have to be a Jedi in Star Wars to take them on.
9. Jango vs Obi Wan in Space
Tumblr media
Ok honestly, this was one of the best dogfights in Sci-Fi history. There I said it. It was phenomenal 10/10 the entire time. And it even did things to make it stand out as a showdown such as...
10. Seismic Charges
youtube
Jango’s use of a homing rocket was also a nice addition to the space showdown.
11. No Dull Moments
youtube
How anyone can watch Anakin riding that animal until he gets bucked off without laughing is beyond me. It’s gold and the CGI only makes it more comical.
12. The sand joke
Big deal, Anakin said sand is rough, course, and irritating. Is that not true? Sand really has all of those qualities. Is it more irritating that he said everything is smooth on Naboo, perhaps but is it that big of a deal. I’ve heard plenty of people make weird statements before and remember this is a monk who was not able to party, date, or do anything wild.
If you live a socially deprived like you might make lame statements too. All we can reasonably expect Anakin to do well is fight well and he did that. Outside of that, we could somewhat expect him to conduct himself professionally, but there is always an immature person out there. Like many young people, rock stars, class clowns, and others. There is always that person, why can’t it be Anakin.
13. The Droid Factory
Tumblr media
This was a visually stunning scene with great action. We also got a good humor bit with R2 and 3P0. They are always 100 percent on character. Their argument about leaving the ship was noteworthy as well.
Also mentioning humor, when Obi Wan said he wanted to be left alone and Anakin literally wanted to ditch him after he was captured, I was in stitches. Seriously felt like a comedy skit. Padme of course does the mature thing and emphasizes that they need to rescue Obi Wan and lets Anakin know that she’ll be looking for Obi Wan. Anakin then has no choice but to also look for his master.
Maybe he was seriously, lol. Perhaps he had been nagged one too many times. Perhaps he was yanking her tail and knew Padme would insist. I guess Kenobi would have to hope that was the case.
14. The Arena creatures
Tumblr media
A great nod to Star Wars in general. Creatures have always been an essential part of Star Wars and Anakin never missed his mark. Especially when Anakin took command of one of them. That was iconic.
15. The Arena Battle
Tumblr media
Here Lucas did something really novel. In other depictions, we always only saw one or two Jedi around. Lucas gave us a scene with 200 Jedi fighting together as a group against a massive droid army. Like the Battle of Hoth, speeder chase, Mustafar duel, Phantom Menace duel, and Battle over Coruscant this was a staple moment in Star Wars.
Though the scene itself might not have been cinema gold, the idea was. it really deserves to get remade more in Star Wars video games. I hope to see more scraps like this in Tales of the Jedi’s next seasons.
17. C3PO switched out
Tumblr media
Hilarious, who’d ever imagine fighting him? Him nearly blasting Gunray made it even better.
18. The Clone Troopers
Tumblr media
One of the most beloved aspects of Star Wars. What later became a staple of the Clone Wars 2003 miniseries and 2008 Clone Wars series. It all started here and there was something special about the early clones. While the second phase of clones was my favorite (episode 3 timeline), I really enjoyed the uniform, professional, and mysterious vibes we got form the early clone troopers.
19. Count Dooku
Tumblr media
One of the most iconic, beloved, elegant, and unique Sith Lords of all time emerged. Dooku is a staple Star Wars character (like Maul, Vader, Grievous, Jango Fett, Luke, Obi Wan) who is listed in many fans top 10 Star Wars characters. Not only is he an amazing villain but he makes for a great anti-hero or anti-villain in the Tales of the Jedi tv series. And they picked someone who was 80 years old yet still seemed powerful at all moments and someone who they can still make a lot more content about in a new show.
20. Mace Windu
Tumblr media
Mace Windu is a classic prequel character. He has been shown in countless tv shows, comics, and novels. He is known for his dogmatic nature, being a mighty force user, and exceptional duelist. Mace really shows us what it’s like to look at an intimidating Jedi Master. His showing against Jango Fett further displays his dominance.
Dude is just OP!
21. Yoda in action
Tumblr media
I’ve heard that people reacted by cheering in the theaters while watching Yoda’s first lightsaber duel. I remember watching the documentary and seeing how the Prequel devs created a unique acrobatic fighting style for the legendary Jedi master. He dueled in a way that made him seem terrifying and inspiring despite his size.
He showed he had the force feats and saber skills to easily match a lethal Sith Lord who just beat two top tier duelists. This was another groundbreaking moment in Star Wars much like Obi Wan’s duel with Grievous and the fight in the Phantom Menace with a double bladed lightsaber user.
22. Geonosians
Tumblr media
Star Wars has many fascinating cultures and races such as the Wookiees, Ewoks, Mandalorians, and Twileks but what makes Geonosians particularly inspiring is their insect like appearance. More so, most of them seem to have an ability to fly and they have unique weapons that make them lethal warriors. The vicious nature of Geonosian warriors was further explore in the Star Wars Republic Commando video game which came two years after the release of Attack of the Clones.
23. Kamino
Tumblr media
I don’t know how I skipped this but I skipped it. Kamino was an awesome water world. Similar to how Mustafar was an awesome fire planet and Naboo was stunning. Bespin was a gorgeous land in the clouds and Hoth was a nice arctic tundra. Kamino is another fine addition to Star Wars’s collection of intriguing locations.
24. It builds up beautifully with Revenge of the Sith
Tumblr media
Especially the scene where Anakin has his vision and his mother dies. It really explains the peril he feels when Padme is also at risk. Anakin didn’t have a lot of people that he loved that weren’t involved in the Jedi Order. And that really matters because all the Jedi that he knew (even the ones he liked) constantly reminded him (whether intentionally or not) of the rules and obligations he desperately wanted a break from.
The scene where Anakin vows to never again let someone he loves die and how he reacts to his mother’s passing is huge. It really lays out why he isn’t willing to risk Padme’s death in Episode 3 and how his biggest issue is an inability to accept that some things are beyond his control. Furthermore, it laid out the foundation for the story of Darth Plageius the Wise.
My rating of ATOC is 7 out of 10 stars but I honestly enjoy it more than that rating.
25. Obi Wan’s sass
Ok how did I miss this? Anakin doesn’t get to hog all of the comedic points. Kenobi definitely deserves to join in on this fun. If you didn’t notice his blatant sarcasm during the “rescue attempt” I really don’t know what to tell you.
Tumblr media
26. The Fireplace Scene
Tumblr media
One of my friends mainly agrees with me, he tells me most of the scenes in this movie are decent. Some were a bit cringey but they made sense (like how Anakin acted around Padme) but the fireplace scene was just atrocious. I’m going to argue with him. I’m going to argue it was delicious. But seriously, this is an all or nothing scene.
Either you love it or hate it and I love it to pieces! Perhaps not so much if you care about Anakin’s dignity, I mean he really went way to far here. Like I said, the sand quote wasn’t embarrassing, it wasn’t an odd thing to think though uncommon to express. But the I CAN’T BREATH, you’re in MY SOUL TOURMENTING ME! That would get a man ghosted very quickly.
Still, fighting in the battlefield and almost getting killed alongside each other might change things. I mean, maybe Padme was intending to ghost and friend zone until that happened. Being a hero, slashing droids in half, that definitely can win a woman over.
And to be fair, if a woman meets with you in a nice gown and you’re supposed to “protect her” I’m not quite sure what her real motives are.
27. Deathsticks
Tumblr media
Brilliant, brilliant, absolutely BRILLIANT! Seriously, drugs in Star Wars were makes it feel much more real. But what’s even better about this is Kenobi himself uses his trademark jedi mindtrick to convince a man to clean himself up, stop selling drugs, and change his life. That’s inspiring, Lucas was dropping golden nuggets and making people laugh in a Star Wars movie.
28. Little Boba
Tumblr media
This was honestly a nice touch. Boba at this point in the story a goofy little kid, it added personality to his dry yet cool persona we saw in the OT. Which was appropriate for the Original Trilogy, but it is important to know that people are people, there is a reason they act however they do.
Boba Fett yelling, “Get him dad. Get HIM. FIRA.” It wasn’t that bad and hey he was a kid, just rooting for his father. Boba also showed maturity by doing as Jango ordered without hesitation and being able to operate the Slave 1 on his own even managing to use it to hurt Obi Wan.
The most important scene here was him witnessing his father’s death, it completely explain how he became such a ruthless and cold bounty hunter later. But like his father Boba had some values, unfortunately AOTC didn’t do a good job showing the values Jango had or how he passed them down to his son.
29. Dexter’s Diner
Tumblr media
It was a nice dive into a more casual aspect of the Star Wars universe. I felt the same way about the glimpses we got into Coruscant, the Jedi Temple, Naboo, and the public transport in the film. The nice thing about Star Wars is getting different themes and narratives each movie. it can’t be all doom and gloom like Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, and you get it.
30. Look at what it led to
I pretty much wrapped it up but I want to add this. I’m not focusing on projects that came out Revenge of the Sith, which in my opinion was the best movie lore-wise (not in general) in Star Wars history. Attack of the Clones and the Phantom Meance may not be the best Star Wars movies by any means, but they were decent (well TPM is decent without Jar Jar) but lore-wise I think the Prequels as a whole are on another level to anything else Star Wars.
Star Wars Republic Commando (2004)
Tumblr media
One of the best video game series of all time. It was outright phenomenal and delved more deeply into the mysterious, sci-fi, war, and clone aspects of the Clone Wars that Attack of the Clones introduced us to.
Star Wars Clone Wars (2003) Volume 1
Tumblr media
This series was epic and action packed. It really showed us the huge battles, vast frontiers, mysterious worlds, great array of vehicles, and different climates that were shown in Clone Wars battles. This is a distinct vibe from the later Clone Wars which has more of an episode 3 vibe. The biggest difference is by then both the CIS and Republic are much more developed and begin to fight in more populated and crowded worlds.
The 2008 Clone Wars series initially gave us a blend of both feels that were in Episode II and III but eventually (post season 3) became more centered on the Episode III tone of war. The same was true with the second volume of the Clone Wars (which makes perfect sense) but the first volume is largely regarded as the favorite. And what really made it special was that peculiar vibe the era had, you never knew what you were going to encounter.
When invisible droids engaged Yoda on Illum or when Ventress dueled Anakin something about it was so new and fresh that isn’t easily implemented in other eras. And for good resaon, they all have something special about them.
Star Wars The Clone Wars (2002)
Tumblr media
It was a phenomenal vehicle based video game that existed in a Star Wars setting. It had a compelling story, epic battles, unique vehicles, and diverse multiplayer modes. This game just showed how much potential the AOTC era had.
Star Wars Republic (2002-2004 content)
Tumblr media
While Republic initially came after The Phantom Menace and many of it’s great comics were inspired by the character Quinlan Vos, much of it’s content that came after 2002 was influenced by Attack of the Clones. But likewise Attack of the Clones was influenced by the comic series.
Many people though Aayla Secura was created in Attack of the Clones, but she actually first appeared in Star Wars Republic back in 1998. Still, the Clone Wars timeline brought many interesting storylines to this series.

Roswell New Mexico - Season 4, Episode 11
Okay...aside from OH MY GOD ALEX IS BACK AND HAD ACTUAL SCREEN TIME WITH MICHAEL AND IT WASN’T JUST THE LAST TWO MINUTES OF THE EPISODE HOORAY!
Three things first:
1. Did we really have to bring Alex back just to have him say “oh yeah by the way I’m totally dying from radiation poisoning”? Hahaha. What the fuck?! I mean, I’m gonna go ahead and assume that Vlamis and Tyler wouldn’t be happy with the Malex ending if Alex literally dies. So I’m going to assume that means he gets healed somehow. Perhaps everyone will finally get that handprint moment they’ve been begging for. But I’m just going to have to go with “he’s definitely not dying” or I’m going to lose my mind.
2. If they fucking have Dallas marry them in that permanently twilight world with only Bonnie for a witness, I might also lose my mind. I’m sorry, I’m gonna need A) light and B) everyone else in attendance.
3. Was there an actual explanation of what the Alighting is in Clyde’s ramblings? Because I don’t think there actually was beyond “I’m gonna go home” and like...is that it? Just going back to Oasis? Cause that’s boring. Anticlimactic. I mean, I expect nothing less from this show but still? Why have a fancy word for it if it’s just “point my star map home and walk through a portal”? That doesn’t sound like “THE ALIGHTING” to me. I mean honestly, I need someone to explain the show’s whole alien mythology to me because my god does it not make sense to me AT ALL. This show makes me feel so dumb sometimes and I’m pretty sure it’s just bad storytelling but also....maybe I’m missing something?? So I was rewatching bits of season one because I was having Malex feelings and I ended up watching Noah’s whole scene about “coming from a war torn planet blah blah blah the Alighting and when they come to take us home, I was going to trade you for leverage” and he talked about a stowaway??? So like...why did all these aliens come? They were trying to escape Oasis because of Jones the Dictator? But then Jones stowed away? But like...there were a bunch of his Ophiuchus disciples on that ship too? Noah, Bonnie, Clyde, Tesca etc? So wouldn’t that be more than one stowaway?? And then what were Nora, Louise and Theo actually trying to do? Were they trying to go home? Or were they just trying to save their kids and take Max from Jones so he couldn’t transfer into him? And Theo was undercover helping Jones but also creating pocket dimensions as decoys???? Like...what the fuck is any of this supposed to be?!?!? HELP! I have so many questions and I don’t feel like any of them have been answered.
Aside from those three things....
I was very glad to see Alex in half the episode rather than just the last five minutes like I feared. Still annoyed at the “hey I’m dying part” but remember, we’re ignoring that cause he’s gonna be fine okay. But I like that we really are just full on paralleling Motherland and Raylla and Alex is immediately like “we found each other again let’s get married!” Which is very sweet. And you know...no hang ups there in saying yes...just the whole....dying part but anyway...moving on.
PRESENT DAY, PRESENT TENSE I LOVE YOU!!! ABOUT DAMN TIME! Bless.
They have incredibly cheesy lines but at least one of them isn’t “you’re my turquoise” because I swear if I have to hear Max say that one more time to Liz I’m going to lose it. Haha.
I have to thank Bonnie at least for letting Malex have some alone time while she and Dallas went on their little fruitless errand. I may not really care about her arc but at least she gave us that.
There were references in this episode but I don’t think there were any Harry Potter ones? Maybe I rage blocked it out immediately but I don’t think there were?!?
I continue to adore the Kybel awkwardness and also the fact that Rosa and Max totally know. I desperately wish they had just let Isobel date Anatsa all last season and started fresh with the Kybel slowburn this season so we could have had more time with this but alas. It is what it is. They’re super cute and I can’t wait till they make it official.
I was very glad to see so many Kyle and Rosa scenes in this episode because despite Kyle finding out she was his sister in season one, I feel like their sibling scenes have been pretty nonexistent so yay for those. Especially him telling her how far she’s come and her being like “yeah so Isobel is totally in love with you too you idiot”. I really wish we had gotten so much more but this was great.
I still just...don’t care about this Liz plot that, shocker...was solved in an episode. Well...at least the addiction part. There was that preview (that preview that had no Alex in it again ..ugh) where she said her brain is broken so I guess there’s consequences but still...obviously very rushed.
I feel like Shivani wasn’t totally wrong about Echo because I don’t feel like they’ve really resolved any of their actual issues. But sure...I guess we’ll see.
I suppose I should be happy that they’re all of a sudden now making an attempt to make Liz’s student relevant to the plot but uhhh...yeah...not so much. It all just feels kind of ridiculous to have that whole GED class plot and trying to be a mentor just so she could be used by Clyde like nine episodes later.
I suppose I should also be glad that Clyde is trying to make Shivani and her cryo daughter relevant to the plot too but uhh...I’m sorry I still don’t care. Plus, I really can’t believe that Shiri Appleby was used just for that weird mindscape episode but I feel like they’ve just wasted her if she’s not going to suddenly be relevant at the end. But also...do I even care about her actual character beyond that she’s OG Liz? At this point? No. Although still the fact that she’s apparently related to the Valentis and we didn’t even see her when Kyle and Eduardo went to find her for...reasons? to get Alien console pieces? is just kind of also absurd. She was vaguely plot relevant and we didn’t even see her??? So strange.
Speaking of Eduardo....why were we meant to care at all about him and his estranged daughter if it was literally a twelve second plot point that meant nothing?? Like literally...other than Kybel hooking up, that whole Mexico excursion was thoroughly pointless.
Anyway....I would like Alex not to die now that we’ve got him back. I would like to actually get to see Sanders in that tux at their wedding outside the pocket dimension. That is coincidentally the only thing I still care about aside from Kybel and Rosa’s happiness. The plot is meaningless but I still would really like someone to explain it to me just cause I want to understand. To be honest, I’m not even sure the showrunners and writers could explain it if pressed.

i love talking about my writing so i do not mind all the questions 😂 i've been part of too many fandoms to name here but some of the ones i was the most involved in include Supernatural (still love the show, just don't engage with the fandom much anymore), the MCU (stopped watching the movies after Endgame, went to see Eternals because Harry was in the post credits scene and then fell asleep halfway through and missed him), Star Wars (was more into this when i was younger, these days the only Star Wars media i really care for is Rogue One and nobody else seemed to like that movie lol), Star Trek (mostly TOS), Doctor Who (same thing as Supernatural, still love it just not in the fandom anymore, and the 12th Doctor is my favorite <3), Community (still love the show, probably going to be getting back into the fandom when the movie drops), Les Miserables (i've read the book, seen the Hugh Jackman movie too many times to count, and saw a performance of it a few years back! still love the musical but the fandom feels like it's mostly dead now), Harry Potter (for obvious reasons, I have distanced myself from this one as much as possible but I was a Ravenclaw if anyone was wondering), the Throne of Glass books by Sarah J Maas (actually planning to reread this over the summer! may get back into the fandom, we'll see) and I've been active in the fandom for just about every mainstream horror franchise (and plenty of the more obscure ones too lol). I could probably spend hours creating a comprehensive list of fandoms but i think this is enough for now, unless you're just dying to know more 😂 i started writing in first grade, so around 6 years old. i've known i want to be a writer almost my entire life. i think the first bit of fanfic i ever wrote was for Harry Potter actually, but i don't remember anything about it. and i don't actually know what got me into reading fanfic...i just kind of always remember it being my go-to form of entertainment when i was bored. i am SO sorry for putting a whole novel in your askbox...apparently we're both in very chatty moods today lol
dialogue is the hardest thing for me to write because i always have to rewrite the conversation ten times before i feel like it sounds the way two people would actually speak. i'm much better at giving overly flowery descriptions of the space, and of character's appearances, emotions, etc. i tend to try and limit dialogue as much as i can when possible. my other writing crutch is semi-colons...i simply cannot go a paragraph without including one.
now the pressure is on to keep the fic good for the two of you 😂 i think this is the first time i've been told that two of my readers were talking about my fic beyond the comments section.
i think she's 3 years old? but i always forget. i'll have to ask my mom next time i call her, she's the one that keeps track 😂
-🤘
wow, i cannot comment on any of the fandoms 🫣 don’t rip me apart or anything but i’ve literally never watched a single movie or episode related to any of them 😅 to be fair though, i rewatch the same like 10 tv shows on repeat and i’m not much one for movies 😬 but still that’s so impressive ! HOW did you find so many things that you enjoyed enough to join a fandom ? honestly love all of that for you, and apparently i need to broaden my horizons 😅
that’s crazy how it’s so opposite for us ! conversation is so easy for me to imagine. i wouldn’t even know how to avoid it 😅 semi colons !! never use those bad boys but i’m told i use too many commas. love me a good comma 😂
SHE’S SO CUTE !! i’ve seen the photos you sent and omggg she’s seriously adorable. i don’t know what i was picturing but honestly she’s surpassed the image ! such a fkn cutie 😍😍

Another Cary Grant movie!
Script below the break
Hello and welcome back to the Rewatch Rewind, the podcast where I count down the 40 movies I rewatched the most in 20 years. My name is Jane, and today I will be talking about number 29 on my list: Universal Pictures and Granox Company’s 1964 comedy Father Goose; directed by Ralph Nelson; written by Peter Stone and Frank Tarloff, from a story by S.H. Barnett; and starring Cary Grant, Leslie Caron, and Trevor Howard.
It’s 1942 in the South Pacific, and most people are focused on a little thing called World War II, but beachcomber Walter Eckland (Cary Grant) just wants to mind his own business. While he’s stealing fuel for his boat from the Royal Australian Navy, his old friend Commander Frank Houghton recognizes him, and coerces him into becoming a coast watcher – which involves living on a deserted island and reporting Japanese plane and ship movements. Frank “accidentally” instructs his ship to crash into Walter’s boat so he’s forced to stay, and hides whiskey throughout the island to motivate Walter to report in. When another coast watcher is in trouble, Frank sends Walter to rescue him in his still functional but tiny dinghy, with the promise that the other man will replace him. When Walter gets to the other island, the coast watcher has been killed in an air raid, and a Frenchwoman named Catherine Freneau (Leslie Caron) has been stranded there with seven young schoolgirls. Walter has no choice but to take them back to his island, and then to learn to live with them, since there’s no safe way to evacuate them. Proper, particular Miss Freneau initially clashes with uncouth, sloppy Eckland, but they eventually start to care for and learn from each other.
I have no memory of my first impressions of this movie. I know my family borrowed it from the library a few times, and then bought it on VHS when our local Hollywood Video was getting rid of all of its VHS tapes, and then eventually got it on DVD. I watched it once in 2003, three times in 2006, twice in 2007, three times in 2009, then once each in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2019, twice in 2020, and once in 2021 and 2022. So I seem to have phases when I watch this movie a lot and then stretches when I take a break, but I’m not exactly sure why, unless it just has to do with the availability of copies. It’s a very fun movie that I pretty much always feel like watching, although these days I tend to only get around to it during my annual Cary Grant birthday week marathon.
It always feels particularly appropriate to watch this for his birthday because he said that Father Goose was one of his favorite movies to make, and that Walter Eckland was the character he played whose personality was closest to his own. While the scruffy and vulgar Eckland is very different from the dignified, suave gentleman that tends to be associated with the name Cary Grant, he plays this part so perfectly and comfortably that it’s easy to believe he was really like this, and almost impossible to picture anyone else in the role. I’m not sure how Leslie Caron feels about the film or her role, but she also does an absolutely perfect job. She is so delightfully funny. We meet her character at an incredibly stressful moment, and she makes us laugh without ruining the gravity of the situation. Walter finds her and asks who she is, and she replies, “I asked you first!” and then he asks where the man he’s supposed to be picking up is, and she replies, “I buried him.” And then there’s a pause, and then she adds, defensively, “He was dead!” and I don’t know why the way she says that is so funny to me, but I can’t help but laugh every time.
And from there the film continues to provide excellent comedic moments between Grant and Caron. One of my favorites is when Catherine is trying to stall Walter so the children can steal some of his clothes and supplies – they were going to get more supplies provided via a parachute drop, but Commander Houghton determined that even that was too dangerous, and Walter has already made it clear that he has no intention of sharing. Because Catherine and the children are living in the hut with the radio and Walter is living on his boat, Catherine got the message about the cancelled drop before he did, and the way she passes it on to him as slowly as possible is so funny. First, she lets him call in on the radio only to be told that the message has been given to her. Then she hands him the paper she wrote it on upside down, and once he turns it around he finds out that it’s in French, so he asks her to read it, which she does, and when he protests, “You’re reading it in French!” she responds, “Well it’s written in French!” So he asks her to translate it, and that’s when we get the amazing moment I quoted at the end of last episode when she asks him how to say “parachute” in English, and he pauses and thinks for a moment before exclaiming, “Parachute!” and she just goes, “Oh really? Huh” and moves on, and the way they do that is just so perfectly silly and I love it so much.
Another very funny scene that is maybe my favorite part of the movie is after Catherine has been attacked by what she thinks is a water snake, but is actually just a thorny branch. After being told that all water snakes in the area are extremely venomous and there’s nothing they can do, Walter convinces her to reveal where she hid his whiskey – she objected to his excessive drinking in front of the children – so he can make her as comfortable as possible before the end. So she gets very drunk, and he’s being nicer to her than he ever has before because he thinks she’s dying. The audience knows the whole time that she’s not in any danger, so we’re free to enjoy the humor of the situation, and I have to say, of all the playing-drunk-for-comedy performances I’ve seen, Leslie Caron’s is quite possibly the funniest. I especially love – and frequently quote – the part when she’s telling Walter about dating an official at the Italian consulate in Fiume, and she asks Walter, “Do you know where Fiume is?” and he says, “Yugoslavia, isn’t it?” and she says, “No, it’s in Yugoslavia” and I realize that has no right to be very funny but it still cracks me up. And then there are several more very silly moments until she convinces Walter to talk about himself and open up about his past, and then it actually becomes relatively serious for a little bit, as he reveals that he had been a professor until he realized that school was all about teaching conformity rather than encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. Then Catherine passes out and he assumes she’s dead, so he puts a blanket over her face and tells Frank, but while he’s on the radio we can see her feet moving. Meanwhile, the children have found the stick and realized what happened, so they show it to Walter, and he takes the blanket off her face, she says, “Is it morning already?” and then we get another of my favorite moments, when Walter tells Frank, “She’s alive! The snake’s dead!” and then holds the branch up to the radio microphone as if that will in any way explain what happened. And then he just walks away while Frank is yelling his name over the radio in confusion, in the perfect ending to a perfect scene. Although I did just learn that my favorite joke is slightly ruined by the fact that Fiume was actually part of Italy from 1922 to 1945, so technically it wasn’t in Yugoslavia when the movie takes place, and it certainly wouldn’t have had an Italian consulate. And it’s at this point that I would like to apologize to The Sound of Music for calling it a very 1960s version of World War II because that movie isn’t anywhere near as anachronistic as Father Goose. The most egregious offense is Leslie Caron’s hair and makeup, but there are also factual inaccuracies like the Yugoslavia thing, plus some of the military equipment was apparently from the Korean War. But none of that really matters because it’s just trying to be a fun comedy, and as you’ve probably gathered by now, in my opinion it very much succeeds at that. And there are still some aspects of the story that remind us how devastating and disruptive war is: case in point, there are seven children who have been separated from their parents.
While these seven children are not nearly as iconic as the Von Trapps, I still think this movie does a decent job of making most of them at least somewhat distinct people. Angelique and Dominique are stuck as “the French ones” and they’re pretty interchangeable, but at least they get some funny moments. The oldest, Elizabeth, has a huge crush on Walter; Ann likes to complain and wants to go home; Christine has an imaginary friend named Gretchen and decides to give herself the code name Rumpelstiltskin – everybody involved in the war has a nursery rhyme code name, and Walter’s is Mother Goose, which is where the title of the film comes from. Then there’s Harry, who loves cricket and corrects Miss Freneau when she uses the name “Harriet.” I don’t like assigning labels to people, and I don’t know if Harry was trans or just experimenting with gender expression, but I do know that when Walter and Catherine are getting married and the chaplain asks over the radio who the best man is, Walter looks around for a moment and then says Harry’s name, and the kid’s eyes light up, and it’s kind of beautiful. Perhaps this was intended to be seen as merely humoring a childish whim – like playing along with Christine’s imaginary friend – rather than validating trans identities, but compared to the current manufactured panic trying to force trans kids to conform to cisnormativity, it’s strangely refreshing to see adults in a movie made nearly 60 years ago at least kind of listening when a child says they want to be seen as a different gender than they were designated at birth.
The seventh child, Jenny, is probably the most important to the story. At first, she doesn’t speak at all, and repeatedly bites Walter’s hand. But at one point when she’s gathering coconuts on the beach, some Japanese soldiers decide to land on the island looking for turtles, and Walter manages to hide her before the soldiers notice her – despite her biting his hand again. Later, to thank him, she brings him one of the hidden bottles of whiskey, and he manages to get her to start speaking again, and then she and the other kids start helping him fix his boat. While they’re doing that, he decides to paint her name on the dinghy, but he accidentally does it backwards. Their whole dynamic just strikes the perfect balance of sweet and silly. And while I’m pretty sure that it was a complete coincidence that a couple years after making this movie, Cary Grant named his daughter Jennifer, that kind of makes his fatherly relationship with this Jenny even better.
Grant retired from acting when his daughter was born, so this was his second to last film, and the final time he played a romantic lead. I mentioned in the Monkey Business episode that in the later part of his career he frequently played opposite women who were much younger than him, which is very much the case in Father Goose – there’s a twenty-seven-year age gap between Cary Grant and Leslie Caron. In this particular movie, I don’t actually mind it that much; it works for their characters, and Caron was in her 30s, which feels significantly less creepy than when middle-aged men play opposite women in their early 20s. Still, it’s rather obnoxious that at the time most actresses who were around Grant’s age were faced with the choice of retiring or being stuck in stereotypical grandmother roles, while he was still getting fun and interesting parts opposite women young enough to be his daughters. Although Katharine Hepburn was definitely still slaying in her 60s. But anyway, I’m not objecting to the Grant/Caron pairing in this movie because I think both of them were absolutely perfect for their roles and I wouldn’t replace either of them, but their age difference does still reflect Hollywood’s troubling trend of being particularly agist toward women. And there’s still that part of my aroace brain that wonders why almost every movie with a male and female lead needs them to be romantically involved.
Yes, Walter and Catherine have a great enemies-to-lovers arc, but why can’t we get more enemies-to-friends stories? Not everything has to be about romance! Although their wedding scene is a key turning point in more than just their relationship. It starts off very sweet but then gets interrupted when an enemy plane starts shooting at the hut. Thankfully, everyone is fine, and they’re able to finish the wedding and also maintain a relatively lighthearted tone, but at that point it’s clear that they have to get off the island. The wedding wasn’t strictly necessary to move the story to this phase, but it greatly adds to the scene so I can’t be too annoyed about it. Also I guess it would have been kind of scandalous at the time for them to have lived together on an island for a while and then not gotten married, although the movie goes out of its way to make it very clear that they do not sleep together on the island. Before their wedding, they’re living in different places, and then after their wedding they need to escape because the enemy has found out where they are. A submarine is going to rescue them the following morning, so they all spend the night on the beach – very close to the water, for some reason. Early in the morning, while the children are still asleep, Catherine and Walter have an entire weird conversation that seems to have the sole purpose of letting the audience know that they haven’t consummated their relationship yet, and it’s just like, yes, we get it, why are you telling us this? It’s almost a relief when a Japanese patrol boat shows up and interrupts them. But overall I’m not against their relationship. I like the way they help each other grow into better versions of themselves, and I hope they have a happy life together after the events of the movie. I just crave more platonic male-female friendship representation in film.
While I would prefer it without the romance, overall Walter’s character arc teaches a good, albeit difficult, lesson. Often I find myself tempted to adopt the attitude he has at the beginning, when he says, “Several years ago, I made peace with the world. Now if the world isn’t bright enough to make peace with itself, it’s just going to have to settle things without me!” But Walter soon learns that running away from the world and its problems doesn’t solve anything and isn’t even making him happy, and that he and everyone else has a responsibility to help the world make peace with itself, however they can. His participation may not have made a huge difference in the grand scheme of the war, but he still did something, mostly using skills and talents he already had. There is such an overwhelming number of horrible things happening all the time that getting a boat and just sailing around by oneself sounds kind of wonderful, but it’s important to remember that we each have abilities that can help make things at least a little bit better, if we decide to use them – or, as in Walter’s case, are tricked into using them. Of course, the main purpose of this comedy is to entertain, and it certainly doesn’t feel like it was meant to be any sort of call to action, but the message is still unexpectedly inspiring, and that is yet another of the many things I love about Father Goose.
Thank you for listening to me discuss another of my most frequently rewatched movies. Please subscribe or follow, and leave a nice review on Apple Podcasts if you’re enjoying this journey. This wraps up the three-way tie of movies I watched 17 times from 2003 through 2022, so next week I will talk about the shortest in the three-way tie of movies I watched 18 times. As always, I will leave you with a quote from that next movie: “You’ve been taken to the cleaners, and you don’t even know your pants are off!”

Alright, given that I haven’t rewatched Gundam Narrative yet, let’s talk about something I did watch this week.
*Spoilers ahead*
Tumblr media
Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight Axis: Red Blur, an 26 minute ova which adds new scenes to the original Twilight Axis, making it actually coherent in the process. The plot of Gundam Twilight Axis concerns three main characters:
Mehmet Merca - Earth Federation special forces commander, who’s been tasked to investigate the remains of the Axis Asteroid base to recover any evidence of psycho-frame or other newtype weaponry. IE the wreckage of the Sazabi. Despite what you may think, he’s actually a very nice and reasonable guy.
Arlette Almage - Formerly Char’s personal mobile suit mechanic throughout the One Year War and Char’s Counterattack (Second Neo Zeon War), though she did not join him in the AEUG. Also a Newtype from the Flanagan Institute (though apparently not a patch on Lahlah, the star pupil of the Flanagan Institute). Char personally handpicked her from Zeon’s Flanagan Institute when she was a young girl, so she views him as something approaching a father figure (honestly it’s a little unclear). This translates to her wanting to know what happened to him, which is the reason she helps Mehmet Merca to help navigate Axis.
Danton Hyleg - Formerly Char’s personal test pilot. Happily retired with Arlette, and is mostly along to support her. As he’s significantly older than her (at least ten years), he has a more realistic view of Char, outright telling him around the time of CCA it would’ve been better if he hadn’t come back to them. A very good pilot, but unable to actually pull the trigger and kill someone.
Overall, I’d say it’s pretty good, it does just enough with the time it’s got for you to be invested in these characters, and it’s got some good action scenes. It can’t disguise the fact that it’s got a very low budget (there’s a lot of scenes where you can’t see people’s faces, so they don’t have to animate lip movements), but it knows where to prioritise. I do like how even though it’s technically a set up for a later antagonist, it keeps focus on the actual characters first. Twilight Axis was originally a light novel and was adapted into an OVA and Manga. I have read a translation of the Light Novel and found it very good, since it fleshes out a lot of stuff missing from the OVA (IE Birnam’s motivations), to the point where I could honestly consider twilight axis a very good advert for it. The Manga adaptation, which I haven’t read, also looks very good. I’m given to understand that Arlette and Danton also cameo in MSV-R: the Return of Johnny Ridden, which is neat. The reason I’m pairing it with Narrative is that I view them both in similar lights - after unicorn showed off how utterly ridiculous psycho-frames can be in the right hands, we’re left with the question of what happens between now and F91 onwards for it never to be used or spoken of again. Both Narrative and Twilight Axis deal with the fallout of Psycho-frame mobile suits such that we can understand why it was sealed away and not further developed. Or, as I like to think of them, they’re curatorial works, made to answer some lingering questions.
However, I have two main non-ms design criticisms of the story - The First, and most forgivable, is that we’re not really given any information on the enemy pilots, the Fermo Brothers. I’m more forgiving of this because I think the manga fleshed them out more, and you don’t really need that much information. The Second criticism is both petty and bothersome to me, because it’s entirely likely it’s borne from my own assumptions. The Flanagan Institute, where Char headhunts Arlette, is shown to be performing inhumane experiments on children, with one of the bosses explicitly mentioning “disposal”. What bothers me about this is that to my knowledge this is basically the only piece of evidence that ever shows the Flanagan Institute to be abusive. Why does that matter? Because central to Zeon’s stated philosophy is that of the newtype, a new type of human adapted for space with the ability to sense, communicate and emphasise with others over long distances. The Federations’ refusal to recognise the newtype is synonymous to their refusal to recognise the autonomy of the colonies. The Federation refuses to recognise the capacity of mankind to evolve past it’s need for the Earth, since (as many characters are fond of saying) their souls are still bound down by gravity. So the revelation that the Flanagan institute, Zeon’s shining beacon of Newtype advancement, needed to resort to the mass death of children for its newtypes just completely undermines that. We know newtypes can naturally awaken in combat, but nowhere is it suggested that they *need* to, with both Challia Bull and Paptimus Scirocco basically just showing up, with no indication of harrowing battles beforehand. Furthermore, it also completely undercuts another notable organisation in Gundam, the Titans, who actually do resort to the kind of inhumane practices shown here. Why? Because they view Newtypes as nothing more than weapons, further demonstrating their utter contempt for spacenoids, having twisted one of the central facets of spacenoid independence into just another tool of oppression, with all the dehumanisation that implies. But if they’re just following off Zeon’s playbook for the “production” of newtypes, then it implies that newtypes aren’t actually a development for humanity at all, simply a reaction to large-scale trauma. I know Victory and other later UC shows went back on the Newtype philosophy a bit, but they (Zeon) knew from essentially day one that it wasn’t it? It just throws into question why a lot of the success stories of the Flanagan institute would even stay with Zeon, if that’s how they were treated (and it turns newtypes into the whole “super soldiers through trauma” thing, which…. I see a lot in fiction, and I bothers me a little that this is the route they decided to go for).
But enough quibbling about a whole 14 seconds of animation, what do I think of the mobile suit designs? These are arranged favourite to least favourite (though to be honest I’m not particularly crazy about most of the offerings here), and do not include the R-Jarja (I’ll cover it if I ever talk about Neo Zeon/Axis Zeon or the Gyan). Given that most of these suits are variations, I’ll typically discuss my feelings on their original counterparts as well. I’m using the Novel Artwork, since I generally prefer it (and image limits), but this applies to both versions of the designs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First up, the AMX-011S Zaku III Custom. Straight-up my favourite mobile suit here (though that doesn’t mean a whole lot….) I like the Zaku III because it’s chunky, well armed and proof that even Neo Zeon is not immune to nostalgia. True, it gets outclassed during the First Neo Zeon War by all the 4th-Gen mobile suits running around, but it’s still a very solid design. I like how the Zaku II-to-Hizack-to-Zaku III-to Geara Doga-to-Geara Zulu line plays out too, with each one having slightly different characteristics. I have a very mixed views on Char’s custom mobile suits - which I like, because I enjoy judging the suits mostly on their own merits, rather than on who’s piloting them (key word being “mostly”). That said, occasionally one of Char’s suits can end up being a really baller design, which I just adore. Sadly, the Zaku III Custom shown here is not one such design, though I do like the idea of Char Piloting a Zaku III for whatever reason, hence it’s inclusion here. It’s actually quite nice, since it’s a relic of Char that the two characters attach value to, a momento of their time together, that nonetheless must be left behind on Axis. Just like Char.
Tumblr media
Note: GB02’s decision to spit out a Byarlant Isolde at me is essentially the reason for this entire post, since I was forced to actually formulate an opinion on the blasted thing, having been utterly apathetic towards it until now.
Tumblr media
The Original Byarlant is a suit I’ve gone back-and-forth on over time, disliking to tolerating to (generally) liking. It’s got a very unique silhouette to it, and I like how it essentially ended up a high-mobility suit with so much of its body devoted to thrust, and you can believe it’s high mobility, since it’s so many thrusters that can move and swivel to precisely direct the suit where it needs to go. The head’s pretty gorgeous and I like how inhuman it is, along with the Byarlants hands and feet. It’s got a very minimalist armament - just two beam sabers and beam guns (strong beam guns, mind), but I find this only adds to its sleek feel. It looks like someone wanted a war machine that was also a race car. The colours are both villainous, appropriate for a Titans machine, and eye-catching, with the yellow drawing your eye to the face, and the red highlighting either thrusters or limbs, again emphasising it’s mobility. I do like how the feet look both delicate and weighty at the same time - they’re both designed for high speed and yet don’t look like they’d struggle to hold up the suit itself.
The Byarlant Isolde takes several features from the later Byarlant Custom - chiefly the shoulder thrusters and back fuel tanks, creating the sense that Birnam was able to get their hands on some new parts, but not enough to fully upgrade the Byarlant. I will say that I absolutely adore the new colour scheme - I didn’t expect to like a lilac and white mobile suit this much, but somehow the Isolde makes it all work. I should note that the Byarlant is similarly outdated to the rest of the mobile suits present, however, The Titans and Neo Zeon didn’t have that much of a tech gap, chiefly since Neo Zeon declared war basically right after the Titans defeat. They undoubtedly had an edge in Newtype weaponry and heavily armed mobile suits, but from a practical standpoint, a high performance suit from the latter days of the Gryps War is probably going to stand a better chance than a Grunt unit from the Neo Zeon war. The Byarlant was always a fast suit, so this makes even more sense. This is why it slightly baffles me that the Tristan is considered Birnam’s best unit, but I’ll talk more about that later. Though I do like the original Byarlant’s head, I find the Isolde’s Gundam-style head to be growing on me. It’s likely a more advanced head than the original Byarlant, and likely better suited for its environment of a dense asteroid base (in UC, Monoeyes tend to be better at range, whereas Twin-eyes are better in close quarters (it’s to do with target tracking at differing ranges), though it’s not a large enough difference for it to get called out). It was likely also chosen for the lingering psychological effects it may have on any former Zeon or Neo-Zeon personnel they might run into while investigating axis - appropriate, since the Titans also dabbled in that. I will say that the new head gives the Isolde and absolutely wonderful silhouette - the sunken red-on-white eyes make it look very imposing and it reminds me of some of the head designs from Gundam Sentinel (the geometric nature of its V-fin also helps with the intimidation factor in my opinion, though I’m not really certain why).
Tumblr media
The Ahava Azieru is a weird one. I know basically nothing about the design or it’s origin, and even it’s general form is unclear. It’s a mobile armour that I can only assume is patterned after the Neue Ziel, but when I first read the novel, I assumed it was some sort of prototype to the Alpha Azieru, so I’ve no idea what it could be a derivative of. It’s very well armed, and it seems to have at least some common design features of Late-UC Mobile Armours. I do like how it can essentially afford to sit back and throw beams at its opponents, but it seems remarkably slow for a MA (though that could be down to the pilot). It seems to have the design of a dragon, with its large winglike shields and funnel tail, which is an odd decision, since it’s ally, the R-Jarja is mentioned multiple times as being a “Knight”, an enemy of a dragon. Yet Arlette uses it to communicate with the enemy pilot, so they don’t come into conflict? It’s an odd thing. I do very much love the head (perhaps I have a thing for inhuman head designs in Gundam, though it’s awkward to see in relation to the rest of it).
Tumblr media
The Jegan (Birnam Type). It’s a purple Jegan with a custom visor and rifle, used by Birnam. While it’s nice that it’s giving us a preview of what the Crossbone Vanguard’s suits will eventually look like (it’s rifle resembles a shot lancer somewhat), it honestly doesn’t do anything. It could have been replaced with any other grunt suit and it would have been the same (I’ve gone off the Jegan’s design a touch as of late, so forgive me if I’ve little to say on this one).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, the Gundam AN-01 “Tristan” (typically just called the Tristan) and Kurwenal. Since the Kurwenal is an add-on to the Tristan, I figured I’d cover them together. This is also because although the Kurwenal is my least favourite design, I have more to say on the Tristan itself. I find the Kurwenal to just be boring honestly. It’s a bunch of missiles and Newtype tech bolted to the Tristan, relying on overwhelming firepower as opposed to anything else. I don’t like it’s colour scheme or it’s form at all, it feels too much like a toy with its blue and red colours and blocky psycommu claws. While it’s 5-tube beam pods make for a good visual, I can’t really appreciate them because they’re just a box that shoots scattering beams. There’s no design or artistry to them like there is with funnels, those agile and adaptable little attack drones. Lastly, when it gets broken up the Tristan just sits there. I’m not saying I expected it to leap out and continue the fight, it just looked so very goofy that I couldn’t take it seriously as a weapon. Onto the actual Tristan then. The novel art does help it a little but……. It’s just so boring. It’s the NT-1 Alex repaired with parts that make it look more like the MK-II. Performance-wise, the Byarlant Isolde was probably better-performing than it. It looks very generic, especially when compared to other Gundam-type mobile suits. Part of it might be that it exists at a time when 4th-Gen MS are all the range, while it’s only a 2nd gen at best. But the way it’s presented as Birnam’s big trump card is just silly when it’s roughly two wars out of date. It almost got taken out immediately by the Zaku III custom and only survived because the pilot couldn’t pull the trigger. I guess it’s supposed to represent the Gundam’s legacy in the same way that the Zaku represents Char’s legacy? But it’s basically the only Gundam that neither Char or Amuro had anything to do with, so that line of thinking falls a bit flat. It’s just overall dull.
Oddly so, even, because despite it changing very little, I find that I prefer its predecessor, the Gundam NT-1 “Alex” considerably. Part of it might be the older style of design, the well-defined place that the Alex has - it’s a nice piece of Late-OYW design, being cutting-edge and (spec-wise) able to give pretty much anything of the same time period a run for it’s money in the right hands. It feels like something between the RX-78 and the Gundam Development Project (Gp01, etc) and I like how elegant it feels, without losing any of that all-important weight. It feels like a space-specialist Gundam, counterbalancing the Gundam Ground Types from 08th MS team, with its extra ambac thrusters, compact and powerful backpack and general blue colourscheme. It’s well-used, since it shows the Federation moving to capitalise on their strengths and how desperate Zeon is at that stage of the war to stop things getting any worse. It also further demonstrates the massive power disparity between a Gundam and many of Zeon’s mobile suits, only being destroyed through great sacrifice and luck. That might just be it, the Tristan has too many recycled elements for me to look at it as it’s own thing, and it’s missing all those finer details from the Alex, so it just looks lesser by comparison. It’s little more than a charismatic grunt, compared to the absolute terrifying monster that was the Alex.

for the batcher asks: 2, 31 and 50 please :D
2. Which Batcher would you most want to be trapped in an elevator with?
👀
Well, if I want to get out of there quickly, Tech. But if we’re talking about any other reason to not get out of there….any of them. Idk. Make it happen. 👀
31. What is your favorite episode?
Oh man that’s a tough one. I go back and rewatch the series all the time when I just miss them, so I love all the episodes. But if I had to pick, I’d probably pick the episode where Tech discovers his blossoming racing career. There’s so many funny moments, like when TAY0 gets Regina George’d, and just hot snarky Tech, Wrecker also having some great one liners, the fact that Echo and Hunter are the only impulse control the Batch has and spend the entire episode fucking off being space uber-eats drivers. Iconic honestly. Ah. It’s just all so good and so fun. I love it.
50. How do you hope the series will end (as basic or as detailed as you want)?
I feel like this is a tough question to answer because in an ideal world, they all (Hunter, Omega, Wrecker, Echo, Crosshair, TECH, and all the other clones) live happily ever after on Pabu and nothing bad ever happens to them again. :)
But idk if that’ll happen. This is Star Wars. Which is a wonderful thing, but also horrible at the same time. I really hope things work out well. I guess even if they don’t live happily ever after on Pabu that’s fine, as long as they’re together and (relatively) happy. I’d be satisfied.
So we’ll have to see. I’m not going to keep my hopes up, but hope kind of is Star Wars’ whole thing. So maybe, just maybe, we’ll get that happy ending. 💜

nym! 💜🥹 came here to scream thank you for your kind tags and meant this message to be a reasonable length but now it’s longer than a star wars opening crawl and sappier than a hallmark card so. sorry about that. but anyway, here it is: i never told you this, but we met after i’d taken a long break from tumblr - i’d been sent so much hate by sequel haters that it’d gotten to the point where i’d get anxiety, so i’d deleted a huge majority of my sw gifsets and stopped blogging so much about it and as far as online went, felt my sw excitement deflate. you helped change that. you were so unfailingly kind and had so many incredible st insights and jokes and your love and enthusiasm were so contagious that it made me get over my anxiety and start blogging more about sw again, which made me happy bc i’d missed all the joy that galaxy far, far away had given me. so i guess i really just want to say thank you. 💜 you are always so incredibly passionate, creative, and talented, and above all, so relentlessly kind and such a bright spot in the fandom, even when i’m sure you’re stressed or having a bad day or dealing with annoyance in your own notifs, and i feel so, so lucky to have clicked that follow button. 🫶🫶🫶
oh, sophie 🥺🥹 when I tell you I just kind of had to sit my phone down and cry a little bit (happily!!) because of how overwhelmingly sweet this message is and how much it means to you?? Oh man. I'm gonna put my own star wars crawl length response below, but I don't think it'll be very coherent
I can't say I blame you there in the slightest. I didn't take a break from Tumblr, but I did leave the fandom at the very beginning of 2020 because of it, and - if you can believe - briefly threw in the towel of trying to defend the movies because of how exhausted I was by how loud all the haters were.
I wasn't actively even creating at the time, but I was hanging in active fan spaces at the time and the negativity then (and prior to that, back in 2018) was enough to burn me out on them, and gave me severe anxiety about the final two movies (which I'm actually still working through but seem to have finally mostly gotten over) — the fact that you actually got hate for it makes me so mad, you absolutely did not deserve that, the fact that so much of the SW "fan"dom is built up on tearing each other and the franchise down is absolutely heinous, when the movies are so full of heart and fans with that same amount of love should be celebrated not ridiculed!
It was a little bit because of that, that I went back and revisited the movies. I mean, sure, I missed my kiddos and had been not so subtly pining for Poe Dameron in that year break but, I knew I loved them, y'know? I knew those movies had a special place in my heart and I knew there had to have been a reason for that. So I became determined, hell or high water, to find the heart of those movies and refind my love for them and they made it so, so easy, it genuinely only took one rewatch for me to be sucked back in and fall in love all over again with that trilogy that really does just feel like home to me.
And then after that, I just decided to be as vocally positive about it as humanly possible, regardless of who listened or not, and any amount of hate I got on my sets or saw in my peripheral just made me even more ruthlessly determined to put more love and enthusiasm out there into the universe.
That said, I didn't expect to make any kind of difference by being so loud about it, but I'm so so so happy that it did and that you wound up in a place where you're comfortable to blog about star wars again 🥺🫂 and also for the record I wILL go into battle for you if anyone ever gives you a fuss again.

i'll be up to colinjamie fics for forever like stormpilot Finn and Poe still get fics why couldn't we get fics, also is the for me the way Colin knew who to ask and that Jamie didn't even get annoyed that Colin stopped his selfie time, like for real he could ask anybody and he was like is gotta be jamie much better from last week Colin ust being pissed at jamie for no reason i guess he just saw DaniJamie and was so pissed
I had to Google who Finn and Poe were but when I saw the words “storm” and “pilot” I figured it was something Star Wars related and I was right! Lmao I dont really know much about Star Wars other than the fact that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and that there is a double bladed lightsaber (I know that one bc my brother had one when he was a kid and now I have half of it)
But yeah exactly!! The show exists and hopefully the fandom persists and even grows, leaving us with more colinjamie fics!
Also I’m so sorry, it took me a while to answer this (and your other) asks because I wanted to answer them properly. Quite a few mention Colin being pissed at Jamie and I was wondering if you could come back in and let me know when those moments were?
I think I missed them, not sure, i rewatched several of the newest episodes for this ask lol, and what I’m getting is when they were playing total football and Colin was one of the players who told Jamie he was messing up/smth like that, leading to Jamie’s “I’m not doing it wrong, you’re doing it wrong” talk to the team in half time. Were there other background moments that I missed? I would appreciate it sm if you let me know when/what they were so I can revisit this ask and answer it properly! Especially as it would be interesting to analyze!

@digsdigsdigs tagged me, thank you digs! ♥ ♥ ♥ I love these things
Last Song:  Bolt Cutters and the Family Name by Larkin Poe
Last Show:  Star Wars Rebels, I think?  Or it might’ve been The Mentalist or Sandman or The Librarians.  I’ve been rewatching scattered episodes of things as they occur to me.  I looked up the Mentalist again because I was teaching my littlest sibling about hot tea, that kind of thing.  Very stream-of-consciousness
Currently watching:  not currently watching anything with any dedication, I really am just cherrypicking episodes of things I like at near-random.  I watched Knives Out and then Glass Onion with my family over the break and I’m planning to watch them again with @kaylithographica in the future, if that counts
Currently reading:  I’m rereading the Sign of Seven trilogy by Nora Roberts (mostly, unfortunately, because I couldn’t get into her current Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy. Have any of you enjoyed it? Am I missing something? It feels flat to me and I’m kinda bummed about it) and @zahnie was talking about Sparrow Hill Road the other day, so now I’m partway through Girl in the Green Silk Gown again (the Ghost Roads series by Seanan McGuire), and also I just found destiny919′s batfam fics and am extremely enjoying Dangerous and Noble Things, which has some absolutely delightful Tim and Cass content
Current obsession:  been playing through a new run of Stardew Valley, and this time I got a rabbit’s foot pretty early on and decided I was going to date all the love interests up to the full ten hearts and see all the cutscenes, but in a surprise twist no one could possibly have seen coming (I saw it coming. I knew. there’s a reason I haven’t done this before) I now want to marry multiple of them and can’t decide on only one, so I’m debating adding one of the pro-poly mods.  Is it worth risking tanking the game because I’m historically shit at modding, to have two (maybe three. or four. five?) spouses?  Maybe.  Maybe.
tagging:  kaylithographica and zahnie, since I already namedropped them, and maybe @tam--lin because that’s who put me on to Larkin Poe, and anybody else who’d like to play

Okay rewatching season 4 of Stranger Things and I am now 100% positive of 3 things:
1. One/Vecna/Henry cannot be killed while Eleven lives, because Eleven is his phylactery. Vecna is a lich king — he’s an undead wizard that is attached to the mortal plane via his phylactery. While most phylacteries are created intentionally as a way to hide the lich’s soul in order to protect themselves from True Death, I think the power exchange between One and El when she pushed him through the portal in 1979 turned El into a phylactery for One unintentionally. It’s the same logic that governs the relationship between Voldemort and Harry in HP. Voldemort accidentally creates a horcrux in Harry (which is similar to a phylactery, except horcruxes are used to break a soul into many pieces versus a phylactery which is used to contain the whole soul). This is why Harry has to die at the end of the seventh book because Voldemort can’t be killed while Harry lives. Same with One/Vecna/Henry and El. While Eleven is alive, Vecna can’t be killed. She must die in order for him to be eliminated and he must be eliminated before the upside down can be destroyed.
2. This bond is strengthened by the fact (again, pretty sure I’m 100% right about this) that Papa is not Papa to the special children — One is. One was the first child of Brenner’s program, and is obviously older — by at least ten years, if not more — than all the other children. While One has many powers that we see, his children tend to excel at certain behaviors over others, yet all of their powers are powers they share with One. Eleven, of course, ends up being the strongest of them all — with One’s guidance, as we see throughout El’s memories — and consequently she displays the highest number of powers (including discovering some along the way).
Not to mention, this is LITERALLY the plot of the original Star Wars trilogy, right? (Also, throwback to Dustin trying to make El levitate the Millennium Falcon in season 1). Luke finds out that the Supreme Commander of the Empire —essentially Emperor Palpatine’s (the Mind Flayer’s) five star general (Vecna) is his father — the same way El will find out Vecna/Henry/One is hers.
And 3. It’s no coincidence that the upside down is stuck in 1983. Specifically stuck on the night that Will Byers goes missing, which is the same night El escaped from the facility, using the tunnel One showed her in 1979. El isn’t being used to poke around in the upside down in 1983 — no one even knows there IS an upside down in 1983, because Vecna/Henry/One has been creating it for the last 4 years. Instead, El is being used to spy on the soviets. However, El is prone to wandering around where she’s not supposed to go, and consequently finds the demogorgon, which scares her enough that she opens another gate to escape it and leads it right into the real world. The upside down is stuck the night that El escaped and Will went missing because that’s the night it began bleeding into Hawkins. But when El’s sacrifice destroys Vecna/helps destroy the Mindflayer in the upside down, the right side up will revert back to 1983 — before the upside down ever began bleeding over, before Will goes missing, before Mike and El ever meet, etc. This is how the Duffer Brother’s can get away with killing off major characters in season 5 without being Game of Thrones — every sacrifice in season 5, with the exception of El’s won’t matter in the end because sealing the upside down, which only opened the night El escaped and Will went missing, will reset time back to that point in 1983 just before the bleed between worlds began.
I’ll probably add to this as I speculate more in the off season, but I’ll be SHOCKED if at least the first and the third one don’t turn out to be what happens.

reveal your watch and rewatch drama list
thank you @akk-theo for tagging me! I did this a couple of months ago so it definitely needs an update ^^
Currently watching:
KinnPorsche - Porsche is my blorbo I will love him forever etc. It’s been great so far, I just hope the series stays centered on them right until the end and doesn’t lose its pace in favor of following the side characters. The last episode was the one I liked the least so far for that very reason.
Sky in your heart - It’s cute and fun. I really want to know more about Prince because he seems very interesting as a character. I’m super happy we still get to see glimpses of Daonuea and Khabkhluen now that they’re together, I love established relationship content.
Triage - I’ve loved this show since the first episode and I am so glad more people seem to be watching now! I really like the time loop concept as my brain finds iterative narration to be very tidy and soothing lol. I like how it tries to be a medical drama which is a genre I used to really love. The actors are doing a great job and I’m super proud of my CGM girls Aom and Fortune!!!!
To my star 2 - I really don’t know where this is going. I liked the idea of starting the story after the breakup but it’s beginning to feel a bit too messy and with still zero insight on Jiwoo’s motives I am not motivated to continue rooting for them.
Love mechanics - I was super excited for this show after the original run. Yin and War were already super good actors and they’re doing so well once again. We only had Mark for what, 4 episodes? And I had adopted him forever so I am very happy to see him again despite knowing how much he’s going to suffer. I like knowing the plot already because I can prepare for the massive amounts of angst and toxicity that are coming. Also I can’t believe they cast Perth, I absolutely can’t not love her and her character so it will make everything even more complicated for me. I think I like their storyline despite the messiness and angst because it feels very realistic and close to real life problems that people go through.
I am not rewatching anything at the moment because I can barely keep up with what’s currently airing :(
Looking forward to:
Even sun - just because I missed BounPrem lots
Between us - same as above + I also really miss WinTeam as characters and I can’t wait to see them again
Gap: I’m just curious to see if it ends up being good or not
Vice versa: after enchanté I have super high expectations, I really can’t wait for it to air
Moonlight chicken: Always need more EarthMix
The eclipse: of all the GMMTV trailers this is the one that got me the most interested. No idea when it will air so it could be a looong wait

favorite phineas and ferb episodes?
thank you for sending this :’) I’m gonna do this in chronological order and not as, like, a ranking, because otherwise I’m sure I’ll forget some. also of course I like ALL episodes of PnF except Act Your Age, these are just ones that stand out to me and that I go out of my way to rewatch
Mom’s Birthday
It’s underrated, but I love this one a lot because it shows how Candace can sometimes feel insecure because of just how great her brothers are and how grand their projects are, and then of course also shows that the brothers love their big sister and always want to include her and give her a chance to shine. I always like when Candace is written as more than just a foil to her brothers and as her own independent character.
Dude, We’re Getting the Band Back Together
Pretty much the perfect PnF episode in my opinion! Lots of familial/sibling love, Candace working together with the boys on a plan, FOUR great songs, “not yet, Ferb”, and our introduction to Love Händel who I adore.
Phineas and Ferb: Summer Belongs to You!
Specials totally count, right? Anyway, every character is so great in this. It’s one of the only times we see Phineas lose his optimism in the series, and his friends come together to help finish their plan and help him regain his hope. Canderemy becomes 100% canon, Ferb’s “sometimes, you have to meet the people you love halfway” quote is wonderful, and the final song just pulls everything together. “I can’t imagine having better little brothers” :’) If you haven’t noticed, episodes where the siblings all clearly love each other are faves of mine.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet Max Modem!
I WILL be honest, this one is on here mostly for the song being so amazing. But again, it’s another cute family-centric plot about not comparing yourself harshly to others and the people in your life loving you exactly the way you are. Also Lawrence and Linda’s relationship and just them as characters are SO underrated I will die on this hill.
Rollercoaster: the Musical!
Took a (relatively) bad episode and made it an amazing one. ALL the songs from this are amazing, they simply DO NOT miss. Also I love how Phineas is like “I dunno, I think all our friends would just go along with bursting into spontaneous song and dance” and then they do.
Bully Bromance Breakup
Bujeet. Enough said.
Where’s Perry?
PERRY GETS STRUCK BY THE GO-HOME-INATOR AND TELEPORTS TO AFRICA, WHERE PHINEAS AND FERB ARE, INSTEAD OF TO HIS PHYSICAL HOUSE, BECAUSE HIS FAMILY IS HIS HOME. I WILL NEVER GET OVER THAT!!!!! Episodes where Perry shows how much he loves the Flynn-Fletchers are also faves.
Operation Crumbcake
Purely on here for the ending, I love it so much. Ferb and Isabella’s friendship is criminally underrated.
Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars
A retelling of Episode IV, but Phineas and Ferb are there. They don’t replace the existing characters, the main story of Episode IV is going on in the background, it’s just that now Phineas and Ferb are also there. I maintain that this is a more enjoyable viewing experience than the actual Star Wars.
Tales from the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension
I LOVE THE 2D CHARACTERS SO MUCH I WILL ALWAYS ADORE THE 2D CHARACTERS AND I WILL ALWAYS WANT MORE CONTENT OF THEM!!!!!! 2-Phineas and 2-Ferb learn what summer fun is, Perry the Platyborg gets to enjoy time with his family after being held captive and brainwashed for so long, and 2-Candace begins to overcome her PTSD. Amazing episode 10/10, things clearly aren’t perfect in the 2D yet because of the open ending, but they’re better than the old dystopia :’)
There’s my list!!!! Obviously non-exhaustive and I’m sure there’s still episodes I’m forgetting because I was just reading through an episode list and picking what stood out in my mind. Again, every episode except Act Your Age is great in one way or another, there isn’t really a “bad” Phineas and Ferb episode except Act Your Age.
