I LOVE YOU ANON???

ok so like i said it literally??? started as nothing?? beyond like a headcanon i have cause i like to #Project onto characters i love, and as a Confident Bitch who was once a Crybaby Doormat i was like “this is harley now”

i wrote a short fic abt it and its. decent compared to most of my stuff i suppose, but it really just is a massive headcanon dump that i pretty much figured had no basis in canon (other than harley having like no canon backstory and the little bit we get being majorly debatable ‘cause dude’s a lying piece of trash) UNTIL I STARTED WATCHING BATTLE FRONTIER SUBBED and i noticed that harley has this very very very specific threat that he’s always throwing at haruka:

and now i’m married to the idea that my headcanon dump is Actual Canon because he literally says this every time. always in this way. it’s practically his catchphrase. the fic i wrote kind of vaguely explores in a few brief sentences how the root of harley’s hatred for haruka is that she’s unsure and lacking in confidence, and that he sees himself in her. unlike drew, who feels the same and uses that sympathy to build her up stronger, harley is infuriated by it and can’t process it with as much finesse. he’s angry at the world for making him believe that he was nothing for so long, and he doesn’t WANT to live vicariously watching other people struggle in that space–he just wants to skip to the part where they’re confident in their own abilities and take the stage seriously. he just wants people to stand on equal ground with so they can all make each other better.

so in a way when he tells haruka “i’ll make you cry” all the time he’s talking less to her and more to his kid self. it’s a weird form of revenge on the world but also it’s him vowing to either snuff her out or toughen her up. it’s, to me, his weird way of saying that he sees himself in her, and thus he sees promise.

i am being so ineloquent but like. yeah. this is also dub canon to a lesser extent, although in a much more subtle way–

that’s REAL ANGER……. in the original this is a scene where she exaggerates her ‘kamo’ tic to piss him off. it’s arguably the thing he hates most about her and very very very responsible for them getting off on such a wrong foot, and so in a way the dub is saying that this isn’t just rival banter, ‘i’m gonna make YOU cry’ is one of the few things may can say to anger harley beyond all conceivable belief.

anyways thats my essay. crybaby real. crybaby harley canon.
